Q: Unable to upgrade my aspire one windows 7 netbook ...

I regisitered with mirco soft to get my free windows 10 upgrade. When I checked yesterday I received I message that my computer wasn't compatible with windows 10. I feel that the whole think was nothing but a PR stund by micro soft they really wanted this work they would have the patchs avilable for all window 7 and 8.1 computers to be updated. They just want you to force you to have to buy a new computer.

Preferred Solution: Unable to upgrade my aspire one windows 7 netbook ...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to upgrade my aspire one windows 7 netbook ...

I was able to upgrade both of my laptops but usually a netbook does not have enough installed memory for the windows 10 upgrade. My netbook will not upgrade either but it doesn't have the memory. It has to have at least 16gb of free memory installed. Because of the size of netbook most do not have that much memory. It was not a problem stunt by Microsoft as I and all of my family and friends have upgraded their laptops and desktops but not netbooks. Just for the record I am speaking honestly because I am not a Microsoft fan at all.

I just wanted to know, if Windows 7 HP can be downloaded onto an Asus Aspire One netbook? Or is it too big a file? Would someone please let me know? Thank you.

A:Downloading Windows 7 HP onto Asus Aspire One netbook

Windows 7 Home Premium requires a minimum of 16GB hard drive space for the 32-bit version, and 20GB for the 64-bit version. Given that the Aspire comes with a 16GB SSD maximum, you'd have better luck creating a bootable USB, installing Windows 7 on the USB and then booting the netbook from that. Aspires that came with Windows pre-installed all had Windows Starter, so that should tell you right there that there are limitations in what Windows 7 version(s) the netbook can handle.

Hello and welcome Steff now have you saved all your data? see this Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

Anotherway is to install again with the factory default option - that will takeit back to out of the box condition, if what you are trying is not working .

See this but it will erase any data you have - hopefully you have backed stuff up already.

I'm trying to fix my Acer netbook, the problem is that whenever I turn it on it turns on normally, I can press F2, screen comes up, I can press F8, screen pops up, that stuff works fine, but the issue is that after it goes to the Windows XP loading screen, it loads fine but then after the loading it just goes back and does the whole process over and over again, it's in an endless loop and is there any way I can fix it? As you probably know, there's no place to put a CD in a netbook.

edit: safe mode doesn't work either.

I bought a new netbook (aspire one 756-887Xkk) just a week ago with windows 8 x64 preinstalled. Now I want to upgrade my netbook with an SSD doing a clean install as I think there's way too much acer bloat on this device. How do I go about this? This netbook uses UEFI bios v2.01 and secure boot and has 4 partitions on disk 0. I tried just downloading an MSDN iso to USBdrive and install it regularly in hopes of windows activation picking up the OEM license hardcoded in my bios. I also tried cloning the disk with no luck. Oh, I have no problem upgrading to a full/Retail version, especially if that will grant me a CD-key then that I can use in the future.

THanks in advance for any help, it's much appreciated!

Hello Everybody
I'm new to this forum and hope I posted my question at the right place.

I just bought a month ago (in Switzerland) a Packard-Bell Dot m/u. Very nice little machine equipped with Windows Vista Home Premium in French. I benefit from the "free" (15 EUR handling fees) upgrade to Windows 7, I followed all the instructions and expect to receive the DVD (French version) some time soon.
Now comes the tricky part... my nice and neat Netbook does not have a DVD player!! And I have not seen it available as an accessory... How should I do then once I receive the DVD?
I do have another notebook with Vista Home Premium (English version) and a DVD player so I see 3 possibilities:
- Install Windows 7 on that other notebok (if language versions are not an issue) and keep the netbook with Vista
- Find some trick to save that DVD as a file (.ISO or something like that?), transfer it to the netbook with an external hard-drive and manage to start that file in some way on the netbook (isn't there some kind of programs that simulates a DVD player?)
- Cry because i've been fooled...

What are your thoughts?

I recently ran into some performance issues with my Acer Netbook. It is an Aspire One that is about 2 years old now. I thought that it was the result of some malware, but was not really sure. Things went from bad to worse when I allowed my brother to "fix" my computer for me. The first thing that he did was open my registry and started looking for things that he said shouldn't be there and then deleted them. I do not have a list of what was deleted and he does not know, but I was watching and it seemed like he deleted and/or changed several things. When I continued to experience problems he tried to fix my computer again. This time he ran COMODO System Cleaner and a Free Windows Registry Repair. Things have still not improved. Sometimes when I turn on my computer, it will not boot to a home screen. When this happens I turn off the power and turn it back on again, it seems like if I do this 1-3 times, eventually the computer will start up to a home screen. I tried to run the ACER system reboot, but that program is no longer available. I have tried to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition, but I get a message that "A disk read error has occurred." All that I want to do at this point is to completely reinstall Windows XP. I have the product key from the sticker on my computer. But, I don't know how I can do this because I do not have a CD ROM and I do not have a Windows XP CD. Is there anything I can do?

Hi All,

Last week I bought a Toshiba NB300-108 netbook which came with Windows 7 starter pre-installed but I have since installed Windows 7 Home Premium Edition only to find problems with the screen resolution and the mouse pad functions.

I managed to find the driver for the screen resolution but I am completely stumped when it comes to fixing the mouse pad. The mouse pad will work but I can't scroll down web pages by sliding my finger down the right hand side of the pad like I could in Windows starter edition.

I have tried the Toshiba website and tried a number of "googles" without success so can anyone please tell me how to get my mouse touchpad back to how it should be?

Many thanks in anticipation of your usual help and expertise.

A:Aspire ONE netbook installing XP

Installing an old OS on newer hardware can be a serious challenge, particularly with a netbook. The problems you are seeing now are only the tip of the iceberg. A big problem is the lack of XP drivers for newer hardware, most likely not available for your computer. Best to stick with a new OS.

It's a Aspire One 522 netbook. XP is giving me the BSOD during install, which may be due to SATA drivers not being integrated. But when i search for them Acer lists them only for the Windows 7 OS. Is it impossible to install XP on this netbook?

A:Can you install XP on a Aspire One netbook?

I'm assuming that netbook came with Windows 7 Starter Edition or Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed.

Even if you were to successfully format the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows XP, it's probable that Windows XP drivers don't exist for some or all of that netbook's devices. Have you already checked and confirmed that?

Not sure if this is where I should post this or not. A friend brought me their Acer Aspire one. They let their kids use it. She said one day it just would not boot. I put Windows 7 on a usb drive and set it to boot from the usb, but it still won't boot. It once came up with a option to repair the Windows 7, but it sat there for 10 minutes doing nothing, then started with the beeps again.

Actually I think you are doing well to get Ultimate booted at all with that amount of RAM as usually it requires a minimum of 4GB RAM to operate in any practical way. If I may ask why did you install Ultimate and not Home Premium??

As I cannot find the details for that motherboard it is hard to say how much RAM it will support but I think 2GB should not be out of the question but even that amount is hardly enough. So if you don't mind me asking again where did you get that info from??

The CPU from what I see in the specs for that machine is also inadequate in my mind and is used if I am not wrong in those tiny notepads with the 10" screens and with Windows 7 Starter version.

To be honest and realistic I would be inclined to buy a newer machine and have it set up for yourself because this one looks to be causing you some grief in manner of speaking. In any case there are some good deals on quite decent new laptops and if you don't like the 8 they come with you can always run that in 7 style using a free program to do that of course it is not quite the same but very close.

Hi all!

SO, here's the deal:

I bought an Acer Aspire Netbook about a year ago (running Windows 7 Starter Edition) and immediately started having issues with it. Acer tech support was no help at all (and incredibly rude, too!). Let me start at the beginning.

One day the computer gave me the "BOOTMGR is missing, press CTRL ALT DELETE to restart", so I pressed CTRL ALT DELETE, got the BSOD, then Acer eRecovery Management started. I was able to restore the system to factory defaults and it worked fine, until I restarted. Here are my two current issues:

1. I still get the "BOOTMGR is missing" error message.
2. However, now when I try to restore to defaults it tells me the C: partition size is 0.1 GB and when I try to restore anyways I get the following error message "There is insufficient space on the disk for the temporary files required for this operation."

I cannot start into safe mode or anything of the sort, and anything I do takes me to the Acer ERecovery Management tool, which only gives me the option to restore to defaults, which then gives me the 0.1 GB error.

Any suggestions? I'd sure like to get this thing working again.

I can push F12 and start it in safe mode. But there are no icons and right clicking on the mouse does not bring up the normal menu,

Control Alt Delete brings up the task manager that shows a bunch of stuff happening - but none are shown as icons on the desktop. There is no task bar at the bottom either.

Ok.. so I have an 8.9" Aspire One Netbook (AOA150-1777), was running dual boot XP and W7RC. Windows 7 RC was a bit wonky at times so I didn't switch everything over to it till the RTM came out, figured I'd bite the bullet once with that. Used a legal copy of 32bit Home Premium that I got from Acer to do a custom install to remove both XP and the W7RC. Only left the recovery partition. Got everything setup once but had many BSODs and eventually got to a point where it would load to desktop after login and then explorer would crash and crash and crash. So reinstall!

Now we are here. I still have some BSODs and I'm trying to track down what driver is causing it. I do have 1GIG of memory and I noticed that upon installing MS Security Essentials that it was causing a lot of system drag, so I removed it. I then used a 2Gig usb drive to devote to Ready Boost. Now I only get about 1 BSOD a day, maybe two. So I think its still a driver issue.

The problem, I don't know exactly how to track down the driver. I've read elsewhere on here how to debug the dump but don't know what to do after that. So I'm attaching the debug info here, with the hopes that someone will be kind enough to either tell me what to do (or where to find the information on how to track down the driver) or tell me what driver did it. Thanks for all your knowledge and help to whoever can help.

This is just a guess as to the relevancy to your issue, but in general, laptops have very specific drivers for specific systems. Installing the OS only does part of the job; you generally need to head to the manufacturer's website to get the necessary hardware drivers to make everything work properly. They often have them bundled for you.

I am having some trouble with what I think is a persistent virus on my Acer Aspire One
Netbook. I am experiencing frequent lock-ups about every 5-20 minutes, forcing me to shut down with the "hard shutdown" method (holding the power button for 5 seconds). I have defragmented the drive using "Smart Defrag",

run Registry Mechanic v., Malwarebytes AntiMalware v. 1.39, and COMODO System Cleaner 1.1.64946.38. COMODO System Cleaner keeps detecting three files which seem to be suspect to me. It isn't able to delete them.

I bought the computer new in May. It is an Acer Aspire One ZG5 with a 160GB HD and 1024 MB memory. I have heard of hardware problems caused by the speakers being played too loud on this model, and though I don't remember ever playing them too loud, it seems like that could possibly have something to do with it, so I'd like to rule that out if anyone knows a good way to do that.

other things I have tried are to take out the battery and depress the power button for 30 seconds and to reset the system BIOS to default.

Help would be greatly appreciated,

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I just bought this netbook a couple days ago, and now I'm getting the BSOD on startup. I put in my password, and then Windows 7 is extremely slow to load. After it loads, I get the BSOD and it restarts. I have tried restoring the comp to previous state, using Registry cleaners, and Startup Repair, but to no avail. This is my first netbook, and so I am a little confused as to what I should do, considering there are no optical drives, and it didn't come with any software CD's or anything like that. Please let me know what kind of info you guys need! Thank you so much!

EDIT: Added the zip file, but I was unable to run the performance report. BTW I am in safe mode.

anyone out there with acer aspire 1 netbook who is also having issues (i am having more problems than i can count with it)? i can't seem to find a set of headphones to fit into the jack on my acer aspire 1 netbook. (i even tried them in the microphone jack just to see if things may have been assembled incorrectly)

i can plug the jack in most of the way, but it won't pop in normally like in a music device or my other computer. is there an adapter i don't know about or maybe i should i take it to be repaired and have a new jack (that fits headphones properly) put in?

the headphones will work ok, but if i move and the plug jiggles, sometimes the headphones will cut out (as if they were only partially plugged in). i don't want to jam the plug in there - it's as if it has a weird jack that doesn't fit standard headphones.

any ideas?

p.s. if you are considering buying one, i might go with a brand other than acer. i'm starting to hate that thing.

A:headphones won't fit into jack on acer aspire netbook

p.s. i have 3 sets of headphones that all work just fine in my other computer, just not the acer.

I wasn't aware that the Acer Aspire One Netbook has a System Recovery feature, so I tried to format the hard drive using an external CD/DVD Reader. The Netbook was infected by a big bunch of viruses. Now, I am able to install Windows Vista, but I can't install Windows XP. This model came with Windows XP, but if I try to reinstall it, I will get a blue screen and it will reboot. For some reason I can't comprehend.... I am able to install Vista. What can I do in order to reinstall Windows XP? Is there any program available online that will format the hard drive at a 100% capacity? I don't have the Vista license number, and this model only has 1024 of SDRAM and that is not enough for Vista? Any ideas? Thanks!

A:Solved: Acer Aspire One Netbook - Can't Reinstall OS!

see if you still have the recover feature
Follow the stepsbelow to rebuild your C: drive. (Your C: drive will be reformatted and all data
will be erased.)
It is important to back up all data files before using this option.
Before performing a restore operation, please check the BIOS settings.
1 Check to see if Acer disk-to-disk recovery is enabled or not.
2 Make sure the D2D Recovery setting in Main is Enabled.
3 Exit the BIOS utility and save changes. The system will reboot.
Note: To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during POST.
To start the recovery process:
1 Restart the system.
2 While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to enter the recovery process.
3 Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
Important! This feature occupies 15 GB in a hidden partition on your hard disk

I have no reboot disc as it is a netbook with no cd player, how can I get it to boot up? HELP

A:acer aspire netbook boot failure

I have two Acer netbooks in the house (different models). The first thing I did was buy an external DVD burner. The next thing I did was go to Programs, Acer, Acer eRecovery Management and burn the recovery DVDs.

Note: this is a radical last resort step because it restores your netbook to how it was when it left the factory. You lose all the programs you have installed, all the windows updates and patches and any programs you have removed because of new computer bloat will be back on your netbook.
You'd hold down the alt key and press F10 when you tirn on the computer. Click Restore Computer to Factory Defaults.

I'd probably recommend a less drastic measure first.
1. Buy an external DVD burner.
2. Get someone running Windows 7 (if that's what you are running) make a repair disk. If your computer is running 64 bit Win 7, the disk has to be made with the same bit-ness.
3. Use the repair disc to see if you can get Windows to boot.

I'ved never done it with XP, but you may be able to use a USB flash drive.

Microsoft has a downloadble tool to prepare a drive from an .iso, but I don't know that it supports XP.

Hi there
I finally got to buy a small 10.1 in Acer Aspire One 521 Netbook.

Got rid of the W7 Starter edition on it plus all the Crap / Trial / bloatware that usually gets pre-installed on Store purchased machines (The AMD V105 processor has a bit more "oompf" than the usual Intel Atom processors that Netbooks are generally fitted with) and proceeded with a Windows Professional install.

Machine works FINE with Windows Professional W7 x-86 -- although remember to load the BROADCOM Wireless LAN driver BEFORE wiping the old software off your disk or you will have trouble connecting to the Internet.

Running Office 2010 , Photoshop CS5 and IE9 on it. All work fine.

While running photoshop on a 1GB netbook is not normally good to do for long periods it DOES work.

Very happy with this EXTREMLY portable netbook -- only cost me around 220 EUR too.

Its just the ticket for taking on Planes, and trains these days and fits easily into a backpack with your other hand luggage items.

I'd definitely recommend this type of computer for travellers -- of coursse it wont replace a fully specced Laptop or desktop but can be used when you don't need to run loads of VM's etc on a machine.

I am trying to reinstall Windows 7 for my cousin on her computer. However, as you shouod know, the netbook doesn't have a cd/dvd drive. So I have created an .iso of the DVD, transfered it with the windows 7 usb dvd tool and tried to use that. I can get into it all, however when I format the partition and try to install windows, I get "Setup was unable to create a new "system partition" or locate an existing "system partition" Any ideas why?

hello, i'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right forum so I chose the category that seemed most relevant. I have an Acer Aspire One (D)257 netbook that I bought from Wal-Mart and i'm wondering if it has BlueTooth built into it by default. I'm not asking if it's BlueTooth-capable, i'm asking if my model contains an ACTUAL, PHYSICAL BT module internally. Because if it doesnt, then i will need to buy a BT usb chip that plugs into USB.

So if anyone here has my model and has BT working on it then please reply. I downloaded the Atheros BT driver for my model from the Acer site, and i've tried running the .exe files installed, but nothing ever happens. i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this working without needing to buy an external chip, so i figure it would really help if i knew whether or not a BT module is present inside my netbook.

I have read several sites that say my model is BT capable and that it's an "optional" feature but beyond that i'm puzzled. I even called Acer, but couldnt get a clear answer on whether the module is present or how to get this working. I've also tried turning on my BT devices and then using the BT option under Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers and then the "Add a device" option but Windows never finds anything.

I need this for talking on skype, ventrilo, teamspeak, business conferencing, and for having online chats with the other students in my university classes. I hate using headsets that have to ... Read more

I am not sure what happened, but all of a sudden, my Acer Aspire One netbook went black and shut off by itself and now when I try to turn it back on, the power light is on but it won't start up and the screen remains black! The orange battery light is off and when I plug in the adaptor, the orange light is on but my netbooo still remains black and won't start up! Does this mean I need a new battery or it indicates another issue? Thanks!

I have an Acer Aspire One ( AOA 110-1722 ) , this has Xp loaded.
My problem is that I can't boot up - I get to the welcome screen, then the list of Safe Mode , Last known config etc, appears. When I enter anyone of these it goes into disc check. Then the cycle starts again. How can I either reinstall XP I have a CD b which I can use on my desktop, this also has an SD reader. As far as the Acer is concerned there is NO disc drive and I have no remote hard drive - just USB stick and the existing 8 Gb SD memory card.
Would XP portable on a USB - get me going ??

Your hard drive may be failing. It's possible to get a USB stick to boot a computer, and it's possible to copy XP to a bootable USB stick, and it's possible to get the XP to install from a USB drive. The hard part is getting the installation data to accept your product key.

These netbooks are a real bad idea for this very reason. YOu can try to do all the above, but I wouldn't waste the time. What I would do is buy a usb external CD/DVD drive and use that to get XP reinstalled.

If you have a desktop, you can get the HD installed on the desktop as a secondary drive, and from there possibly run diagnostics and maybe repair utilities to get the HD fixed. You might even be able to image the old drive to a new one and save yourself the trouble and time-expense of trying to get XP reinstalled.

I have an Aspire One Netbook, running Windows XP. Am trying to install HP Photosmart C4210 All In One Printer. Printer will not print, it can make a color copy, not b/w. Tried un-installing/re-installing software/drivers. Was online with HP for TWO hours yesterday. He said it's a 'hardware' problem and I need to get a new printer. Don't know if buying an external drive and trying to re-install software from CD's would make a difference. Any help is greatly appreciated!
