Solved: Clear Event Viewer.bat

Q: Solved: Clear Event Viewer.bat

Hi Everyone,

Been using this code for a while to clear out event logs

@echo off
FOR /F "tokens=1,2*" %%V IN ('bcdedit') DO SET adminTest=%%V
IF (%adminTest%)==(Access) goto noAdmin
for /F "tokens=*" %%G in ('wevtutil.exe el') DO (call :do_clear "%%G")
echo.
echo goto theEnd
:do_clear
echo clearing %1
wevtutil.exe cl %1
goto :eof
:noAdmin
exit

Since I'm not a coder I would appreciate someone to take a look at this. What happens is I run this .bat file as an admin and the box opens then closes. Normally I get a scrolling list of everything that it clears, but thats no longer the case.

Help is appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When exactly is it a good time to clear the event viewer logs in Windows XP? My computer is having problems recently you see. If I take it a repair shop would I be doing a disservice to myself by clearing the event viewer? Is it something that would at all help the repairman diagnose what's wrong with my computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Help. When to clear the event viewer.

Event Viewer can be very useful because it can provide more detailed information on error messages that appear during Windows operations. It can also log events that you don't see elsewhere.

I would say that a good time to clear event logs is when you are not having any issues. That's not to say a repair tech would necessarily even use Event Viewer to help diagnose and solve your problem, because it depends on the problem. Why do you want to clear it?

It is possible to filter each of these types of events but the default is to show all of them. Is there any way of switching off Information and Success events to create a new default set?

Hi, you usually receive this error along with some others, it references the Common Log File System (CLFS), and it means it is in a inconsistent state (ie corrupt) it can be repaired manually with quite a few cmd's however we have had success with the fsutil util and since it is easiest lets try it first:-

Go to start, search and type:- cmd right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste all below in red:-

fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\ Press enter, restart computer, let us know how you get on.

Just this week I re-installed Windows XP SP-3. All was working fine except that suddenly the System log in Event Viewer has stopped recording the various services which load up at boot time. There were around 17 information entries relating to servies each time the system started. Now there are no services listed - the only entries I see now right after a bootup are two for the event log itself, one for TCPIP and one for the Antivirus.

My research is getting me nowhere - "Windows XP predetermines the events that are logged". Obviously this pre-determination is messed up somehow. Anyone know if there is a registry setting somewhere that might get the default behavior back?

I have tried clearing the log. I deleted the file \WINDOWS\system32\config\SysEvent.Evt and let Windows build a new one at next boot. I have restored the system to yesterdays date before the problem started. Needless to say, none of this has fixed the problem. I really don't want to re-format again over something like this.

A:[SOLVED] Event Viewer

Try changing (SysEvent.Evt.old) the name first and then perform a reinstall!

That way it will not go over top and only download what it needs to and yet still keeping the problem of what?s wrong!

I am pretty sure I posted a question about problems closing a window in Event Viewer.
However, when I did a search on all my postings, the forum could not find anything.

Anyways, I was not able to close the Event Viewer window being told that I still had
things open. I closed whatever was in view. This problem was only solved when after
several attempts to close it in Task Manger, Windows told me the Event Viewer was not responding. It finally closed it out. This kind of unresponsiveness disturbs me
about Windows 7, but I guess it is just one of those quirks we have to put up with.

I've been receiving this particular error listed in the event viewer on a daily basis ever since I upgraded my OS from a 32-bit version of Windows XP to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium

Event ID:12
Source:HAL
Log:System

The error message says "The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system."
I also received another related message in the Action Center that says there is a compatibility issue between my computer's Away Mode System and my 64-bit version of Windows. The Away Mode System is only compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows. It then says that I can prevent this problem from occurring again by disabling the Away Mode System in my computer's BIOS but I am not to familiar with my computer's BIOS configuration utility so I would rather not try to fix it manually. The BIOS updates for my computer are only available through Gateway but they told me that they don't provide any driver updates for Windows 7 at the moment, does anyone know where I might be able to find the proper BIOS update for my computer? The BIOS version is Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 7/4/2006 and my computer model is the Gateway GT5228 Media Center Edition.

A:Solved: error in event viewer

Jules_fc, if the manufacturer does not provide one yet I would shy away from 3rd party sites...
Updating the BIOS can have bad consequences, making your system fail completely.
It is important to wait and get the correct one from the manufacturer and make sure you read the instructions carefully and do a full backup of your personal data to another device or cd-dvd disc before you try it...

I wonder if you can reinstall win-7 in a 32 bit configuration and if it would help... just a thought and probably a long shot and time consuming

First off let me say sorry for my grammar.
so my problem is a person from microsoft called my home and said was i aware that my pc had a security threat and then proceeded to tell me to go too my event viewer and showed me 49 thousand plus system events with tons of errors and there was alot errors in the application logs. also he showed me something about hkkeys missing or something like that.

From what i can tell from the dates this might of started when i went from xp to windows 7 which i'm not sure i did right now what i did was got home with the windows 7 and put the 64 bit disk in and installed it then that was somewhat ok but i was having issues with it and older programs so i decided to install the 32 bit version instead and everything seems to be working fine untill i get this call.

He eventually explained that i needed microsoft security essentials for windows 7 for the registered oem number and said it would cost $450 from the store or $229 online which wouldn't that all come with the new windows 7 cd and he said even if i reformatted i would still continue to have this issue how can that be i don't know. so any advice would be greatly appreciated and if you need more info let me know.

There is a Registry repair utility from Microsoft for XP; is there a similar one for Vista ?

If not, what is the best way to run a Repair Install on Vista that particularly "aims" at the Registry ?

Is there a Vista equivalent of "sfc" ?

Was this an upgrade to Vista or a full installation?

Use Vista System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

To determine which files could not be repaired by the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
1. Open an elevated command prompt.

2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Note The Sfcdetails.txt file contains details from every time that the System File Checker tool has been run on the computer. The file includes information about files that were not repaired by the System File Checker tool. Verify the date and time entries to determine the problem files that were found the last time that you ran the System File Checker tool.

3. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
edit sfcdetails.txt

I am getting continuous DCOM Errors in the Event Viewer.

So I follow the directions listed here:

I search the registry, find the key, double click the default and get this:

I continue to follow the directions and go the the DCOM Configuration to find the program:

The program DOES NOT exist in the DCOM Window. So I am stuck at step 6 on the help window. The culprit is located here in my program folder:

C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin

The program name is: nSvcAppFlt Application 168KB

Can you plese help me resolve/correct this?

Thank you.

It's part of the NVIDA Firewall on ASUS MB. Be nice if it was named NVIDIA Network Access Manager or NVIDIA Firewall.

I don't have an ASUS, or that CLSID on my system, but did some googling and I found this http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23134 that says the Name is app_filter that you need to edit.

It says the CLSID won't match the AppID, but I'd check and see if it's listed:
In the component services window, widen it out, then click on View and choose Detail. This should list the Application ID column.
Search for {BC866CF2-5486-41F7-B46B-9AA49CF3EBB1} (double check that, I typed it by hand).

In the Registry Editor, check the {BC866CF2-5486-41F7-B46B-9AA49CF3EBB1} key for an AppID value and look for that in component services. Also you could check the ProgID key (and the others as well) to see if you can spot the name there.

Hello all,
I have been working with Cookiegal for some time now. She mentioned that we have moved into an area that is outside of her field of expertise. I seem to have a corrupted metabase in IIS. I had a look at this link http://www.iisfaq.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2910 and, as outlined on that page, I ran the command cscript adsutil.vbs enum from inside the C:\Inetpub\Adminscripts folder and it did return the error -2146893792 (0x80090020). I understand from this that I do need to restore the metabase. I don't know how to ascertain if there is a backup or not. There are a couple of other system event errors upon rebooting that I'd like to eliminate as well. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IIS but there are problems writing encryped files and the errors persist. Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions that may help me to get rid of those errors. If you know how to search and find my other thread in these forums you can view the various errors that I have ben talking about with Cookiegal.

A:{Solved} - Win2K - Event Viewer - System Log errors...

Greetings

They look like services set to run to make the use of the 3dFX card work properly. And, since you have uninstalled the card (and the drivers) the files are no longer on the HD. Byt, the entries to the services ARE still in the registry.

I suggest doing a search for "fxgpio", "fxptl" and "Ntremap" and delte the entries you find (of course, export the entries first, so you can replace them if things go wrong).

Cheers

Every time I stick a USB Flash Drive in and get a sound and the Window asking me what I want to do comes up. Now, I know this is normal since I've done it probably 1000 times before. I copied something to the disk fine and the selected remove safely and all was well. Never gave it a second thought. Until I looked in the Event Veiwer and saw the errors for everytime I inserted the flash drive. I can go up on my XP system and it doesn't give me any errors. Any thoughts on this. All drivers are installed and the Device Manager isn't showing any errors.

Running Win 7 64Bit

I was running 3DMark06 and got a BSOD code 124. After that every time I boot Event Viewer logs Error Codes ID 3012 and 3011. Attached are screenshots of both.

I googled this and found two different threads where someone suggested to rebuild the performance counters. Both responses were basically the same, below is one. Neither of the OP's came back and said if this worked for them.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Re: LoadPerf 3011, 3012
Hi-
I had the same problem with LoadPerf and here is what I found out:
All performance counter names and explain text are maintained in string tables managed by the performance counter subsystem (Perflib).

The current contents of the performance counter string tables are corrupted and cannot be displayed. To correct the problem, rebuild the string tables.

User Action
To rebuild the string tables, on the computer that displayed the message, at the command prompt, type Lodctr /r
The contents of the string tables are automatically rebuilt.

I hope this helps
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Since this was from 2008 (XP?) and the other response was for Vista I wanted to see if the guru's at SevenForums thought that this was okay before I did this.

Here are the screenshoots of my two errors.

A:After BSOD Event Viewer Logs Event ID 3012 and 3011 every time I boot

Rebuilding the string tables as outlined in my first post fixed the problem.

Hi all,

i tried loading the eventvwr.msc file from system32 folder directly as well as from the administrator tools, but i get:

"event log service is unavailable. verify that the service is running."

so i try to start the event log service, from the services.msc program;
whenever i try to start windows event log from services i get the message:

"Windows could not start the windows event log service on local computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified."

how can i specify the path?
or
how can i resolve the problem?

any help would be appreciated please---thanks

A:HELP need to solve this problem asap - Unable to start event viewer/event log service

Fire up regedit and find this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog

With "Eventlog" highlighted on the left pane, you should be able to see a value called "ImagePath" on the right. ImagePath should be equal to this:

%SystemRoot%\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted

If you can't see "ImagePath" in that location, or if it's not set to the text above, that's almost certainly your problem. If you're in the habit of using "registry cleaners", that might be the cause.

Hi,

I was hoping somebody could offer an insight on the below, as searching around I've not found much to go on other than "overheating"

Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):

I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:

So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:

Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Trouble is, I am still getting the WHEA-Logger event errors in Windows Event Viewer ('processor core') and wondered if this was not in regards to overheating after all?

The plus side is my laptop is now almost totally silent - the way it must have been when I bought it new 3 years ago! But I was wondering how to investigate these WHEA-Logger errors, if anyone has any advice that'd be great.

First, well done on applying the thermal paste to the cpu/gpu. I assume you cleaned the vents as well. Did you use arctic silver 5 (just curious)?

I wonder if the processor could have been damaged from the heat. Are you experiencing any BSODs or other problems? You can run Prime95 to test your system. And Furmark for gpu.
