Solved: Missing Offline Files tab in folder options

Q: Solved: Missing Offline Files tab in folder options

The offline files tab is missing from the folder options on XP on my desktop PC. (The other three tabs are present). This has not mattered in the past but I have now networked this to a laptop and want to share files and use syncronisation between the two machines. Any help would be much appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You need to ensure that Fast User Switching is disabled: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307853

Also, make sure you are enabling offline files on the computer that is accessing the network share, the one that does not have a copy of the files locally.

A:Solved: Malware removed; 'folder options' etc missing

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.

Open the c:\SDFix folder and double click RunThis.cmd to start the script.
Type Y to begin the script.
It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
When the desktop loads the Fixtool... Read more

Hi,
I've got a situation here whereby .TMP files are appearing in network directories, and the files are going missing. The size of the TMP file matches the original file.
I'm trying to narrow down the issue, because I think there may be two problems here.
1. Offline Files are enabled, to allow profile redirection.    It seems that this is also by default, is allowing Clinet Side Caching when there are network issues.  Does the original file (.doc for example)  get renamed
as a HR234.TMP for example when the Slow link detection sees slow performance?
2.  If the above TMP file is created when there are network issues, should this resolve itself (sync itself back to the network) when performance improves?
Currently we are in a situation where we have a department that have files missing from many network shares, all the missing files seemlingly replaced with a .TMP file, so do we have to go round to every machine in the department, and manually
sync them to resolve this?

Hi,

After checking the Hotfixes and Security Updates included in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 in the

Documentation for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932), I found the following hotfix is available:

Temporary files do not synchronize correctly to a non-DFS share on a server from a client computer
that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Our users "my documents" folders are set up for redirection to \\ourserver\users

We have an XP based machine ( machine X ) that was used by person A, each time they logged off it synchronized as expected.

However machine X is now used by another user B.

Whenever user B logs off user A's offline files still keep synchronising, have deleted all the files from the offline folder I still cannot see a way of stopping user A's files and starting the new user B's files sync.

User A's files were accounting type files and are sensitive files that should not be viewed by others, however by still sync to the offline files folder they can be easily viewed.

Any thoughts as how I can stop this and re-direct the new users files to sync as I need to release this pc for general use.

Cheers.

A:Offline files / folder sync

You need to unmark the old users' folders for offline use, apply, reboot and make sure that the machine can see the domain and be made happy on that front, log in as the new user and then mark those new folders for offline use.

Recently a coworker was trying to CUT/PASTE files from their My Documents folder to another location. During the procedure our file server crashed and shutdown. Their My Documents folder is a re-directed and synchronized folder.

I was able to restore the users entire home drive from the previous nights backup to another location. To date the user has been working from this secondary location but wishes to have all the files moved back to their My Documents so that synchronization can occur for offline access.

I am unsure of how to go about doing this safely.

I'm thinking that I should re-initialize the users Offline Cache and Database first, delete what is in My Documents now, and then copy the restored data back to My Documents. Then, at that point in time re-enable offline files and perform a sync.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Scott

Hello all. I just built my computer, and installed a copy of Windows XP I..."acquired", with service pack 3 slipped into it. Everything works fine, but a few folder options seem to be missing. Firstly, the "Common tasks" sidebar is gone. I've looked online, and all the sites say to just check the check box under tools. Well, it's checked, there's just no sidebar. Secondly, I'm missing a bunch of the folder radio buttons in the view panel. Lastly, when I'm going through My Pictures, and have Filmstrip view on, I don't get a large preview image, just small thumbs. Thanks in advance!

I tried searching for "offline" in the forum and scanned through the 250 odd titles that came up but could not find reference to relocating the offline files folder. I frequently take an image of the system drive as a backup but, with an ever increasing offline folder (windows\csc), this is getting unworkable so I want to move the folder to my data drive (D:\).

I've tried using a symbolic link to a folder on the C drive (as I've successfully done with the OneDrive folder) but win10 seems to object and stops working.

Surprisingly, with google there's loads of references to doing this with previous versions of windows but I can't find anything Win10 specific. Does anybody know of a reliable way of relocating the csc folder?

Hi Guys,

I am migrating my user's home folders from one storage server to another storage server. We have offline files sync enabled and users use to work at work in offline mode and the files/folders sync when they connect to the company's network.
I have done some testing before migrating and found an issue that need assistance from your guys.

I pick a test user say "Testuser01" and logout him out from the system. I have copied all home drive stuff from Sharedserever-1 (Old) to Sharedserever-2 (New) for test user and make the required changes in AD profile and GPO for drive mapping. As
the Testuser01's documents pointing to H-drive (My Documents) are available offline on laptop in Documents folder. Now I have worked offline as "tesetuser01" and created some test files but when I logged in and connected
with my company's network H-drive is it correctly pointing to new Sharedserever (i.e. Sharedserever-2) and Documents path also redirected to the new server location. However the files created in offline mode were disappeared instead of sync with
the new Sharedserever.
I could not figure out why and I don't know if it something with CSC - Client-Side Caching folder ?
Any help would be appreciated.

On Sunday, 12/25/2011 I got the xp antispyware 2012 virus on my PC running Windows XP Prof.

I did the following things and was able to resolve some of the issues, but have some problems left.

I tried booting in safe mode, but couldn't. (I don't know, if this is related to the virus or to my motherboard. It boots to the normal asrock screen: "ASROCK Press F2 to run setup, F11 to ... and tab to ..." (no option for safe mode). I think I have not ever been able to boot into safe mode though.

--I ran FixNCR.reg.

I installed AVG and updated it, removed Avira and scanned with AVG.
I updated Ad-Aware and scanned with it.
I installed spybot and scanned with it.

Some of these scans found more files, I think Ad-Aware found more trojans, which I had it remove. I think spybot found only tracking cookies.

After all those removals, 1) my files didn't show their extensions and the view tab is missing in folder options and
2) my executables wouldn't run on the user, where the infection happened. I was able to find something, which got the executables to run again. I don't remember, what it was.

Hi, I'm really in need of help, I've tried everything to correct this issue but nothing has worked.

I'm in need of showing my hidden files, but when I go to the folder options, there is nothing under Advanced Settings. The box is there and everything, but it's completely blank.

I googled my problem and found a guide that said my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder
could be missing, and that the could be resolved by downloading and running a registry fix from a clean and default browser. So I did that, but nothing changed.

After that I found something that said I needed to have checkedvalue in the registry set as 1 to show hidden files. I went to my registry (to find that the folders that the first guide said might be missing were there) and the thing that had to be set to 1 already was. This is what it looks like, I don't understand any of it, but I'm sure somebody here will.

So after all that trouble, I'm still here with no advanced settings and no ability to show hidden folders. I'm not computer savvy at all and I've spent hours searching the internet and trying to fix this to no avail; if anybody can help me I'd really appreciate it.

Last year I upgraded my old Small business server 2003 to server 2012 standard and shortly after had issues with some of the offline files on the server, we use almost all laptops here that users take home at night and we have folder redirection set up through
group policy for the my documents, and pictures folders stored in \\server\Network\users\ and these folders sync locally, However we also have network drives set up pointing to \\server\Network\ and \\server\network\scans as drives N: and S:.

Files in these 2 network drives somehow got set to be available offline and caused issues with versioning and  people coming in and finding themselves in "offline mode". Thinking this to be user error I updated group policy to employ these
2 policies:
Remove "Make Available Offline" command Enabled
Remove "Work offline" command Enabled
Today however I found that a laptop that had been deployed After all of this had been put in place was having the same problem, with files on the N: drive showing as trying to sync outside of the users folder

Is there a way that I can lock this down to only sync the items in the user folder for documents and pictures? Outside of that folder we have other company documents and databases that get problematic if they try to sync changes between users and it's causing
a lot of issues.

Good day!
I was wondering if somebody could help me how to remove sowar.vbs.. I can't also view hidden files because the folder options is missing.. Hope you somebody could help me with this.. I'm very clueless where to start

A:HELP! sowar is on my start up list. Missing Folder options!

How to Remove sowar.vbs VirusTo fix the "Long Live Sowar" message in the title bar, see How to Change the Internet Explorer Window Title (be sure to read the section on backing up your registry first) or you can try using ieclear.bat by IE MVP Hans Le Roy which will reset the title to Windows default. To fix the restrictions on Folder Options, please download sreng2.zip and save it to your Desktop.Create a new folder on your hard drive called Sreng2 (C:\Sreng2) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on SREngLdr.EXE to launch it.Select System Repair from the left pane.Click on Windows Shell/IE.Put a check mark in the box next to Enable using Folder OptionsClick Repair. The Status should now show Ok.Exit and reboot your computer. Then download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear. The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well. Hold down the Shift key when inserting the drive until Windows detects it to keep autorun.inf from executing if it is present.Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.Reboot your computer when done.Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive that is plugged in when you ran it.... Hi all,
Any help here would be apprectiated. Working on a neighbors PC that he changed some values in the config tables and then wouldn't boot(system file corrupted or missing). Anyway, I have gotten it bootable again, by going thru the procedures to restore. However, I'm at the point where I need to copy the System Volume Information to my temp directory, and when I go in the Folder Options (in either My Computer or Control Panel), the View tab is there, but down in the advanced settings, there are no checkboxes next to each of the settings. So therefore, I can't change anything to view system or hidden file folders. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Any help would be appreciated. The computer is running Windows XP Home. Thanks.

When I right click in a folder's window and highlight "New", the only option I have is to create a new folder.

But when I visit the folder created for my documents and right click, many more options are available, such as create text file.

Does Windows 7 handle folders a bit differently? Maybe I don't have permission to create certain types of items in folders unless I change a setting?

Thank you!
Mark

Where are you when you are clicking on a folder? If I'm in my Documents Library, then that's all that I can see also.

Hi

We have few laptops (windows 7 pro) for sales rep and Offline file enable to sync their documents which are on SBS 2011 server.

I don't know why it try to sync some other users (My video , My music , etc ) files and error says "access denied" or

“The Process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process”

we have tried many times and confirm there's no one using those files but still same error

I found this article on forumbut not sure how much this valid to SBS 2011, and if it's known issue why not there's fix patch yet from Microsoft

On the 2003 server I had to ADD this reg entry and set it to 0:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MRXSmb\Parameters\
OplocksDisabled REG_DWORD 0 or 1
Default: 0 (not disabled)

And then Changed this entry to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

EnableOplocks REG_DWORD 0 or 1
Default: 1 (enabled)

A:Offline file sync try to sync other user files and folder and failed with access denied or files already in use

Hi Scott

1) Check SBS group policy
2) Check permission on CSC folders (I delete all folder under this folder and check permission on this folder)
3) Reinitialize Cache database, there are different method but i use following

Hello,

I ran into an issue with a user's computer. Initially, he was experiencing problems with the computer running slow. A previous technician diagnosed the issue and decided to run Combofix to clear any issues that might be causing this. However, in running Combofix, the files in the folder C:/windows/csc folder/d6 or %systemroot%/csc folder/d6 were treated as malware and moved to C:/Qoobox/Quarantine/C/Windows/csc folder/d6 and renamed with the extension .vir. In doing so, the user has lost some of his data. Although the data represents files on a share drive on a server, in syncing the share drive's files in order to make them available offline, some of those files were lost. Well, at least that's how it seems as the user's files seemed to have disappeared around the same time Combofix was run.

We've tried a system restore to the day BEFORE Combofix was run to no avail. We've also tried to use batch file renaming programs as we made copies of the files in the Quarantine in order to get them out of quarantine and rename them without the .vir extension, put them back in their original folder and resync, but that did not work. The Windows resynchronization process reports that some of the files can't be restored because the user is not connected to the server, even though he is. Nonetheless, after that attempt, the files that were missing are still missing.

The files themselves vary from Excel spreadsheets to Word documents. The scan was perfo... Read more

Hi,
I'm sitting with a big issue at a customer and ask for your help.
Environment:
- 3x Windows 2008 R2 file servers configured in DFS
- approx. 500x Windows 7 clients (Laptops)
- 3x network shares, Common1, Common2 and Homefolder.
- "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection" enabled for entire user profile.
- Everything is controlled by GPOs and there are no login scripts.
Symptom:
Due to some faulty settings in the client GPO and the fact that the "Common" shares was set to allow Offline Caching of files and folders, the majority of clients now suffer from sync issues and conflicts.
Most of the conflicted files are located in the users home folder, but some users are also seeing the same issues with files located on the "Common" shares. The users themselfes are not allowed to enable Offline Files as this is disabled by GPOs.
The only folders that should be treated as Offline Files are the ones in the users home folder.
Solution:
A new set of GPOs have been created that correctly set up "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection". These are linked to a test-OU and the computers and users applied to that OU are not suffering from the problems above.
Question:
When we move a client, the cache will be deleted and all non-sync'd work will be lost.
Today we manually look at every users sync center and try to resolve the conflicts before we move them to the new OU. This is extremely time consuming when... Read more

Hi!
[Please note I have attached a couple of small screenshots for the following problem]
I have a pretty frustrating problem. I seem to have some hidden files and folders which I CANNOT view in the normal way.
Normally, if I have hidden files and folders and I want to reveal them, I do the normal thing and go to
Tools > Folder Options > View
And I check the box "Show hidden files, folders and drives"

However, I have noticed that a lot of my folders are not visible at all, not even the "transparent icon", even with this box checked, and only become available to see when I do a search for them.

For example, I have a folder with piano lessons in it, of ripped dvds and ripped cds, under the same folder "Learn & Master Piano"
All the ripped DVD lessons are visible in this folder, however, there are sub-folders under "Learn and Master Piano" containing the CD's called variously "Play Along CD 1" and "Play Along CD 2" etc. and there are 5 of them.

However, none of these are visible at all when I go into the folder "Learn and Master Piano". What I have to do is go to the search box and do a search for "Play Along CD" to reveal them in explorer.

I only came across this because it appeared incidentally in explorer when I was searching for other things.

This makes me wonder how many other thousands of files and folders I have downloaded or whatever are totally invisible !!

A:Cannot view hidden Folders and Files Even When through Folder Options

Have you tried to uncheck the hide system files option?

You can try to use 7zip.
7-Zip
It is free and safe to use.
It will show all of the folders even the hidden ones.
Once in the folder click on propties and
uncheck the hide this folder option.
Sending a screen shot of the 1st option
I mentioned.
