Q: registering dll and setting MS office options for multiple users/computers

I need to register a dll using regsvr32 and set identical options for MS Word and MS Access for 9 users (with user permissions) on 10 computers running XP pro. All users are on a domain on a server running SBS 2003. Is there an easier way than changing each user to administrator privledges, register the dll, change the user back to user privledges, set the options in Word and Access and do this 90 times?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Here is our situation, we have all of our email come into one account, from there, we have multiple people responding to these emails. We need an email client that is fast and responsive, so if someone clicks an email so that it becomes "read", it will also become "read" on another person's computer across the room, or in another office. We have tried IMAP accounts, but they seem to have a lag time, so multiple people will respond to the exact same email. What are my best options here? We are currently all running on macs, using mail.app, but are open to changing. Thanks for input.

My computers built in touchpad has became a nuisance as it frequently messes up my typing and I use an external mouse anyways.. These are the options I've tried:
By the way I have a Dell inspiron 15", I honestly don't know the specific model as I threw away the box a while back, but it may still be in my profile...

- Disabling it through control panel, doesnt allow that, just gives a "ghost" button even when done with the admin button
- Uninstalling the hardware (prompts me to restart computer then automatically reinstalls)
- Installing the recommended by dell "Alps" program, also uninstalling and reinstalling, no help
- Going to the windows mobility center and choosing "turn off" button for touch pad control at the bottom.
- hitting the button to the right of the f12 key which has the "turn mousepad off logo" nor did any combaination of fn key, shift key, control, or alt key accompanied with the key to the right of f12

Also there is no built in turn off button by the mousepad...
I don't know anything else to try... and honestly its about to get multiple knife wounds until it stops working.

Touchpad on Dell laptops is generally managed by (function + f3) key combination; or the key adjoining to 'f12 key' with the 'touchpad logo'. It appears that you've tried both options and they have not worked. It is likely that 'Quickset Application' for this notebook is not installed.

Please follow the following steps to install 'Quickset software' from 'Dell Support Website' and check results:
- Click Support for Small Business Users | Dell US > Enter 'Service Tag' of your notebook in the appropriate field > Click 'Submit' > All related drivers for the unit will be listed > Filter 'Search Options' by selecting the 'Operating System' in the system > Expand category 'Application' and 'download & install' ''Quickset software' for this notebook > You should be able to manage the 'touchpad' functionality using the 'keyboard keys'

I'm running XP with two users. I'd like to have most of the programs, but not all of the folders available, both on this PC, the laptop, and on my home network. ( I realize that programs can only run on the PC they are loaded on ).

For example, when my wife signs on using her User name, I'd like for her to get Outlook with all of the files and folders, same as my settings. Right now, she gets Outlook, but not the same folder setup.

I'd also like to share all of my folders on the network, but only on my User name, not hers, and vice versa.

Is this possible, or is it too complicated for XP?

We have a union computer that runs on Windows 7. There are 20 + workers that have a personal user account on the computer. As the administrator I am able to setup and connect to a network printer successfully. However, if a worker wants to print, then I have to set up the printer again for his user account and the other 20 some if they want to do print something to. Isnt there an easy way to just setup the printer once so that everyone can use it on this computer, regardless of whos signed in? Once again I am using windows 7.

Hello all --

I have worked as a designer on PC and MAC for 20 years, but have never had to do the following task, and have not found good source info through Google searches:

I will have a "Master" laptop in one main room in which I will collect presentations for speakers who will be presenting these PPT/Video files in other meeting rooms
The Master computer will be setup with folders on the desktop that are named to reflect the remote meeting room names.
Each Presentation room will have 2 laptops (Main and backup) ... the presenter in that room needs to be able to access the files that reside on the Master computer
How do I set up the Network parameters of all the computers?
How do I create folders to share files across the network?

I hope this is clear -- I have watched this done before, but have never had to set it up start-to-finish myself.

Hi all, this is my first post so please bear with me!

We've just bought a new laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 8, after my wife dropped our trusty old Dell.

I have installed our now rather aged copy of Office 2007 via my user account (as I guess the administrator), doing a standard install, with the programmes dropping into Program Files.

When my wife then logs into her account she cannot see or use Office (on either the fancy tiled screen, as I can, or the desktop). I have no idea what to do to ensure that she can access and use office, short of installing it again when logged in as her?

I hope this makes sense?

If not already evident I am pretty non-techie, so please assume (correctly) minimal knowledge when replying.

It's a SINGLE USER system although re-installs per user on the SAME PC don't count as separate activations.

You'll just have to re-install for each user.

The only other way is to install it on a SERVER - but then you'd need SERVER software and each person would need a SEPARATE machine to access the server -- so in your case just re-install OFFICE for each user.

Hi all, I need some help buying software for 3 computers.
I want to but my family (wife & 2 daughters) computers for Christmas (total of 3 new computers). They will all be run out of my house (same household).
Can I buy 1 copy of MS Ofice 2007 and load it onto all 3 computers or do I need a special license or permission from MS to do this.
Do I have to buy 3 copies of MS Office 2007? One for each computer?
Note that 3 copies of MS Office 2007 will cost more than the computers

So with Office 360 (the $100/yr version) I get Office on up to 5 computers I believe. Is it possible to give a version (or allow a relative in another state) access to use/view/create word and PowerPoint files? If so, how do we do that?

Note: I don't mean the online version. I know about that service and its not very good IMO.

I dunno, you could mail them a copy of your install disk and send them any activation data? Or, you can have them install Teamviewer and you can do it yourself, from where you are. You can transfer the install disk as an ISO image to the remote computer. Then using UltraISO or Magicdisk, you can mount the install disk, and install it, using your activation credentials.


Teamviewer is really easy to use, basically, you create an account, and connect ytour system to it. Then, you have the people on the other end install it and they can use your account. That way, you can see the system without having to mess with knowing those longs streams of password numbers.

I have office 2007 and it has a limit to three computers.
I have just got myself and new laptop but already have office installed on 3 other computer.
If i unstall it on an old one and install it on the new one, will this work as is only licienced for 3 computers?
In other forms they say to phone up microsoft and ask them to activate it on the new one.

I have done this several times as I have replace several machines, using 2003. If it will NOT activate, then you will need to call Microsoft.

If it has been a while since you did the old installs you should NOT have to make the call.

I found out the hard way that MS Office Small Business 2007 could not be installed on more than one computer (with one disc). I heard that MS Office Standard 2007 can be installed on up to 3 computers using only one disc. I've tried googling this and searching the MS website, but I didn't see any information pertaining to this issue. If someone could provide me with a link to where I could find information on these guidelines, it would be greatly appreciated.

I want to create autotext entries on one computer and then:

1. Share them across a network on which each workstation has Microsoft Office ( Word ) installed, and

2. Identify the file in which they are stored so that I can copy them to computers not on the network, e.g. my home computer

How do I do that, once the autotext entries are established on one computer ?

I would store them (auto entries) in a template, store that template in your "workgroup templates" location ( I have mine on a server) and then change each users location of workgroup templates to reflect the path eg:T:\yourserver\Templates. If you do this correctly then the template will appear when they click (in word) File / New or you can add an icon to the menu bar.

in 'folder options' i deleted the .avi extension, because it didnt properly register with a program. but the .avi extension doesnt appear back in the list of extensions ! even when it is manually set in the list, it is automatically removed again when i open the extensions list. i can assign the .avi extension to some other program than windows media player, but i cant change the icon anymore.

I purchased a stand-alone version of Office XP which I installed on my HP computer. Several years later when I paid $70 to have Best Buy check it and report that it was not economically feasible to repair it, I had them scrap it and purchased a new Acer which I then downgraded from Vista to XP.

After installing Office XP I saw notices telling me that I had only a certain number of "openings" left until the program would fail to function. I attempted to register the XP version with Microsoft but the menu-driven instructions made no provision for my circumstances and I was disconnected. Furthermore I was unable to reach anyone from Microsoft to assist me.

I understand that it's illegal to install my program on more than one computer but the original machine has been scrapped and I have the paperwork to substantiate it. Under those circumstances - with proof that the original computer has been destroyed - shouldn't I be eligible to reinstall the program?

Edit: I know what you mean, I had a fully licensed version of MS Office and when I got the BSoD they wouldn't give me a replacement key or anything.

If you have AT LEAST the key, just try using it. The most that will happen is "Your key has been used on a different computer" or something like that.

User 1 logs in and works does whatever... Doesn't log out but screensaver goes back to user screen. 
User 2 logs in (switching users - not logging out user 1) and gets to work. 
Sometime later (ie. not right away) and not at a prescribed time, the network stops working.  
I try to disable / enable the network adapter and the machine freezes.   Reboot fixes problem.
If user 1 or user 2 is the only one logged in then never a problem.
Anyone heard of this?

When switching users, it's always a good idea to have User 1 close out any applications and documents they have open and then log out before User 2 logs in. It sounds like you have fast user switching enabled, but I'm not aware of that causing any network issues -- unless User 1 was doing something that required a network connect.
Check the Event Viewer for error logs from the time it froze when you tried to disable and enable the network adapter. Post the event ID and description here if you need help diagnosing the issue from the log files. Perhaps another fix is to disable fast user switching, so that users are always forced to log out before someone else can log in.

I have been using Netflix for a few months. What I have noticed is that I will reach my device activation limit (6 is the max, I believe) rather quickly--specifically, it will tell me I have reached it after streaming 6 shows/movies. Apparently, my computer is being registered as a new device every time I stream a new show/movie.

I am wondering why this is, and how it can be fixed. The only solution I have found is to deactivate every device I have registered with Netflix (which is just my one computer I use for streaming)--only then will it allow me to watch another show/movie. This is a hassle, and if this is the only way, then that is alright. What I am most interested in is the reason my computer could be registering as separate devices like this. I can think of a few possibilities:
-Computer is registering by a dynamic IP address set by the ISP (I do not use a router)
-Computer is registering as a new device by some other means
-Silverlight is somehow acting fishy (which this does not seem like a local problem like a program on my computer)

It must be noted that the device ID number listed on Netflix is different with each registration of a new device (even though it is the same device every time).

When streaming Netflix, my computer is registering as a new device each time I play a movie. The Device ID is different when I check on all my registered devices (the only device that uses my account is my one computer). I have not changed any settings, reinstalled Windows, or made any drastic changes in the system. I do not use a router and am using Cox Communications as my ISP.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Does anyone have a solution?

Hi everyone,

I can't seem to track this down and I don't really want to do a clean install after setting up my environment for work. I'm not sure if this happened out of the box or not. I'm hoping someone will have magic solution that will save hours of reinstalling...

I first noticed the problem when having multiple windows of the same type open. The taskbar by default would stack these. To switch between them you would hover over the stacked icon and that would bring up a grid or list of the windows above the icon. On m machine this 'preview' would only flash and then disappear. I also noticed the screensaver would never come on, alt+tab window switching would also flash and then go away, and there were some other general 'window focus' issues. After googling for a solution and reading some related issues I got the idea to write a quick app that would display keystrokes and mouse presses to a window. For some reason the F24 key is constantly being sent to the OS. I don't have a F24 key(I'm thinking it is either a combination of keys or a storage for a hotkey). Since I don't have a physical F24 key I'm thinking it has to be a software issue. I've tried killing processes one at a time and testing to see if it helps without any luck. I've run out of ideas without doing a clean install. Does anyone have any other ideas???

Hello, again.

When I click on 'my computer' and check the contents I see: Local Disk (C:) C Drive, Floppy Disk Drive (A:), DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:) -- and also CD drive (E:) through (Z:). There are a total of 22 of this new disk drives and I have no idea where they came from.

Whenever I click on one I get the message 'please insert a disk into CD drive...' Again, I have no idea where these drives came from. I can't remember when this started. I recognized the problem when I tried to connect my phone to my computer via USB cable and the usual prompts didn't show up. When I checked My Computer I saw the multiple drives. Now my phone no longer syncs with my computer.

Any idea on how to fix this?

Did you install software via DVD that was actually burned on another systems DVD drive?

The touchscreen when touched show depressions 2 to 4 of them about 3 inches to the right sometimes up some times down.  I've replaced the digitizer glass, digitizer logic board & cable. Is this a mainboard issue? Thanks for your help.

We are using Office 2000 pro on Windows 2000 Pro PC's. We install Office as a local admin. Everthing installs and works fine. After the install a non-local admin logs into office and attempts to open Word. The installer for Office opens. It will only complete if the user has local admin privalages, if not it does not complete properly and each time the user logs in the installer kicks in. Is there a way around this (so once we install Office it will open up for all users, or do all my users have to have local admin privalages for the initial openning of office. After the installer completes, I can remove the the user out of the local admin group and everything works fine. If there is a way around this that would be great. we use roaming profiles and we have several multiuser PC' and the current issue is a real headache

We have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule.

I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.

The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..

TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.

Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.

My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.

Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..

Hello All-
I am part of team of people who are experiencing a weird issue that we cannot seem to pin point the root cause of;
So far the only commonality between the computers seems to be Windows 7 and LabTech Software.
I, personally have seen the issue occur on 3 separate computers. It happens when you reboot the machine. However, we have a large network on machines on various clients and we are noticing the issue on a certain percentage of our clients, and then a certain percentage of their machines. It does not appear to be spreading, but it has affected a great number of computers.
One of the computers was unable to install windows updates, .NET seemed to have been turned off, unable to turn it on, event viewer was inaccessible, restoring windows worked the first few times and now the restore will not even work. (that computer is hosed after experiencing the crash 4 times)
Another computer, which I am currently on, is still repairing and rebooting into windows. I rebooted into a restore point from yesterday morning "after the crash." The user used the computer all day yesterday without issue. We decided that we would use it to perform some test on...
I booted it into safe mode and ran an MBAM scan.
I found 2527 threats and attempted to remove them (necessary reboot)
computer would not boot up, necessary restore.
tried to remove malware bytes which was still there, but could not, downloaded a removal tool recommended by MBAM, removed prog... Read more

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I am new to the site and went to hardware to try to fix an issue, Wayne and Frank both were very nice, Wayne recommended that i go to malware virus first, i have three issue i hope to receive some free advice on. the hardware issue was a wireless button not working, i believe the driver is bad, qualcomm atheros 9485 802.11b?g/n. but following directions seemed very difficult, as i am having an issue with redirects, new tabs opening and pop ups, so many in fact i am having trouble following download directions, i believe i have had as many as 6 at once, mostly multiple, but at times only one. When downloading often a new window opens when thing are correct, but not a half dozen and some are clearly not related, but many are close to what i want. i had a malware q pro something, google told me how to remove it, it returned, the conduit, thing has affect me, toolbars are installed with out my ok, so i read carefully when going through the steps. now i do not know what is my problem with all the unwanted pop ups, redirects new tabs new links, my wife works daily on a computer, she is a CAD operator, while out of town she bought me a new laptop just like hers except software. my desktop was down i was trying to re install either vita or windows 7, i had the system disks and a mirror of computer i bought. got to final step and crashes. have any suggestion on the virus issue as this conputer works with an ethernet cable but not wireless, so i... My first post here.

My question is about how I can set permissions for the users on a network of 3 x computers that all have Windows 7 Home edition to share folders.

Here?s what I?ve got. Three computers, each have 2 x users. The 2 users are 1 x Manager (Admin rights) and 1 x employee (User rights). On one of the computers I have folders which I?d like to share (read / write) with the managers, whilst there are only a few that I?d like to share with the employees.

So basically I have all business data stored on ?PC1? and I want the manager login on PC2 and PC3 to be able to view these folders. Restricted access for the employees.

Is there anyway I can do this ? I?ve been looking at Homegroups / Workgroups, but it seems I can either share with everyone or no-one.

If this is not possible, is there something I can do with an external hard drive or something else ? Or maybe I need a plan B ?

As a compromise, I?d be prepared to do ?plan B?.

Plan B would be:

PC1 has only 1 x user (Manager) and has all the data for the business in several folders.

PC2 has only 1 x user (Manager) and has access to ALL the folders on PC1

PC3 has only 1 user (Employee) and has access to a limited number of folders on PC1.

How would I plan B ?

I'm not so sure about this working with Windows Home version because it's limited in certain areas like creating a Homegroup though it can join a Homegroup.

Here is the deal on separate shares for particular users. You need to add those users as standard accounts on which ever machine you need to set up the special shares for.

Once you add them to your machine as a standard user they will show up on the Share With list in the Homegroup permissions settings, at that point you can add them them and adjust the permissions as desired. It's really as simple as that.

I consider myself an advanced user, but this one I've never seen, nor can I find info out for...

I haven't been able to plug a video camera or external hard drive into my computer via FireWire. I then tried a different cable, nothing. I then tried a different device and cable, nothing. I then tried a different computer with two devices, nothing.

My USB2.0 works fine with each device and computer. I also took the new computer into CompUSA and they tried their firewire device and all worked. I bought a new firewire cable, but I have the same luck with each device.

How can 2 external hardrives, and one sony camera not work, after working for a year. What happened? What do I need to do?

I was wondering whether there's a way to move my database (on Google Gears) from one user account to another (on the same computer), and whether there's also a way I can do that from one computer to another (from my desktop to netbook, for instance)?

I'm having internet connection issues (plenty in fact):

My modem (LAN and Wi-Fi) probably died of old age (or over-heating) or it got struck by lightening;
I've been getting thunderstorms in my area (meaning I'll have to unplug a lot and lose plenty of online work time);
My USB dongle won't work on my Guest account and I can't seem to give it any admin rights on Vista.
So it's just terrible that I'm stuck with one computer (a Windows Vista desktop--meaning it constantly needs to be plugged-in) during these times. I'd like to be able to move them on my Windows 7 netbook or to accounts where the USB dongle works.

I noticed there are various copies of ms office around, what i require is around 5 or 6 copies/licenses for microsoft office, we just need excel and word really....so all the other stuff we are not too worried about....

which would be the best version for us to get, for just excel and word....(home/student?)

Hey guys thanks for reading this post.

For work, I run software that can only be opened a single time on a computer - no way around it - however, on my Windows 8 computer, I figured out that I can open the software on different user accounts on the same computer, and the software runs perfectly on the 3 accounts simultaneously when it is activated.

I am very annoyed by having to switch back and forth between three user profiles dozens of times a day to check up on the software and errors, so my big question is:

Say my main user profile is "Joe" and my second profile is "Bob" and my third profile is "Teddy", is there any way I can have one of my monitors always display Joe's screen/activity, while another monitor always display Bob's screen/activity, and my third monitor always display Teddy's screen/activity - essentially I have three user profiles running simultaneously at all times, and I want to see each of them individually on my three screens.

(These user profiles on the same computer of course, again just hate switching back and forth.)

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

You might consider using a virtual machine instead. This way you could have the program running in each separate virtual machine, and be able to view them as separate opened windows from within your account.

I'd like to set two different home page tabs to come up in IE7 when our users open up the their browser. We can't figure out how to make the home page settings work for anybody who logs onto the computer.

Is there somewhere in the registry and allows a person to do that?

The only thing I have seen in the registry for default home pages will only allow us to set one home page.

I think I understand your question. Load Internet Explorer 7, then click on Tools, and then Internet Options.

In the General tab there is a big box at the top for Home page settings. As the instructions say, "To create home page tabs, type each address on its own line".

So if you want Google and Yahoo to open when you first load Internet Explorer 7, you need to type this in the box:

I could use some help. I'm not the best at this type of thing but I was having some major problems with my laptop and even though I ran both Spybot S&D and Malwarebytes they came back clean. But my wireless wouldn't stay connected and I was highly suspicious. I wondered what processes were running and when I started the Task Manager it showed multiple files ending in .exe*32. 
I know this isn't correct and I Googled and found this forum. I have downloaded the Farbar and the other two and it's helped a lot but since I don't know what I'm looking at or for and there are still multiple files ending like that I'm not sure what to do next. 
Also, I checked my desktop and discovered the same thing. It runs slow but I haven't done anything to it. I use LogMeIn and I'm concerned that I might have infected the other computes I was connected to. Can anyone help me, please? Thank you in advance.

how can i have different users, using different programs/drivers starting up in the system tray im using xp pro.

here are the users

I can't seem to be able to convert back to 2003 MS Office. I switched the default to OpenOffice 3.2 to give it a try, but I want to switch back until I can play with OpenOffice a little.
I went to, Default Programs-Set your Default Programs, but the only MS program that is listed there is MS Outlook. It's not showing Word or Excel. I definitely didn't want to try clicking on Outlook hoping that word or excel are within this same heading. I don't use Outlook and I didn't want to mess up my email program.

Hi Guys,

In my AD everything is fine expect whenever I try to open AD users and computers. It gives me message MMC cant open C:windows\system32\dsa.msc.
But I can see this file being there.

I unistalled the Administrative pack and reinstalled it but that didnt help either. So guys any one have a solution. As this is very important tool.

My roommates and I decided to set up sharing between the computers on the wireless network. So I managed to stumble my way through it and get the correct setup using a user profile with the same name and password. Everything works fine on other computers, but I managed to click something to the effect of "Remember my credentials" on my computer while trying to access the other computer with my normal user details (hadn't figured out all of the sharing at this point). I don't particularly want to log into that profile anytime I want to see what is shared, it defeats the purpose of setting up the network. So how do I get it to stop remembering my credentials?

A:Sharing between users on different computers

Are you asking that you want to break the automatic connection to other computers? And have it request a password? If so open Windows Explorer find the connection to the other computer(s) and highlight it right mouse click and select disconnect. Then make new connections as you did on the other computers, without the remember credentials.

I have a question regarding Printers in the "Printer" OU in AD User & Computers. We have a mixed mode AD environment. Our print/file server is running Server 2003. All shared printers have the "List in the directory" check box checked.

I am wondering why the printers do not show up in the Printer OU. I tried adding them manually but I get the message "This printer cannot be published. To publish printers on computers running Windows Server 2003 use the Printers folder."

The printers show up when you go to add them on a workstation. Just curious as to why they aren't listed in the OU. Is it because I'm in mixed mode?

Mixed mode shouldn't have anything to do with it... Basically mixed mode is just for the clients and authentication and backwards conmpatibility, a few other things like that.

I would take a look at why it won't manually create a printer object... What is the exact oerror you get - verbaitim please.

my laptops display shows everything elongated/squashed and as for display setthings I only have:1152x864 ,1024x678 and 600x800
my laptop has an 17.3 inch pnp monitor, win7 os, 64 bit i5 core, vga adapter

at the color settings 32/16 I saw that I had more display settings: advanced settings->adapter>list all modes and none of the listed modes had 1280x800 you posted for the 17-18 inch monitors, every option still had a squashed look and it looked even poorly when I choose a lower resolution.

what should I do?

This is more than likely a display driver issue, please complete your systems specs a bit more thoroughly, i.e. ATi HD5770, ASUS MRP45678ie, etc w/o knowing your hardware it's very hard to really help you.

I've got a small office with 5 workstations, all running XP Pro. All networked toghether on a WorkGroup, hardwired, but do have a secure wireless connection as well for when i bring my laptop in and when clients come over. One workstaiton is dedicated as the "server" as it has a bunch of shared drives and folders within, and most of the peripherals haning off it (a few printers, etc.)

I also have interns and temps coming over on occassion who do NOT need regular file/printer/resource access on the network, but do need to offer them internet access - those are my concern. It would be great to offer them "restricted" file/resource access, however.

Question is, can I secure certain (or all) of the shared folders/drives from others?

Is there a way to password protect any of the shared drives/directories? That would be ideal, as i could set pw's for certain areas, but still allow resource access, and let them into certain areas if warranted (that sounds more like true server config, huh?)

Or, can i lock certain workstations out of the "network" but keep them on the internet? Firewall? I was toying around with Norton Internet Security - Personal Firewall, and restricting access, etc. but i couldn't seem to get all the config right - it either blocked all traffic, or none, regardless of "Trusts" and other config items.)

Yes this is real easy

You state you have Shared drives/folders
These are the only drives /folders that you must be concerned about

Either unshare them (right click on the shared folder and remove the share)
Or password protect them (right click on the shared folder and put a password in sharing)

This is done from the shared folders computer

Also if you have temp come in you might want them to use the guest account only (a lot safer) The guest account cannot change or edit any user settings

To do this - go to User Accounts (in Control Panel) and enable the guest Account
You can also password protect all accounts in there as well (this is will also affect sharing)

Log off the computers with the new Guest account, and log into the new guest account.

And write down every password you use. I always just use ONE, it's easier to remember - but never give it out!

Hi Fellows,
I have a scenario for ATA. customer has app virtualization configured on a pool of 30 servers pool.users access a portal to login an consume the virtualized app.

These apps are used by almost 2000 users. When a user connect to this application portal the connection is redirected to any of the 30 servers which most of the time ATA observes as an abnormal behaviour (because user's connection was not redirected to this
server ealier) and hence ATA keep sending alert.
It is difficult to configure it as a normal behavior ATA.
How to handle it in ATA.
Is it possible to "Whitelist" a group of computers for a group of users in ATA?
