Location of rules for outlook 2016 (part of MS Office 2016

Q: Location of rules for outlook 2016 (part of MS Office 2016

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

I am once again having this issue whereas the sidepanels and the ribbon within the desktop side of Outlook 2016 are out of proportions again (basically enlarged). I'm mostly going to reference the old thread I marked solved since it's the same issue, although this time it's a different user and the solution there of reimaging the machine did not permanently work here for some reason. Initially it worked, but on a restart the problem returned (and this happened after two tries at reimaging).

DPI settings are normal (100% scaling), and resolution does not appear to factor in its appearance. This is only the second user I've seen this with though so judging from searches it doesn't appear to be a widespread bug with a Windows update at all.

Has anyone seen this before and know of a fix? Outlook does let you format email panes and columns and the like but not the actual left panel, right panel (if it's enabled), and the ribbon pane.

Can you advise how do I delete these data files as they are not required.

You didn't say what types of accounts they are, but mostly likely there isn't a way, unless there is a third-party tool or these are Exchange accounts.

I have been running Exchange server 2010 on our network and recently subscribed to Office 365 online. I can access email ok on line through the Office 365 portal but cannot get Outlook 2016 on my PC to link with the online mail.

Outlook 2016 on my PC (Windows 10, 64 bit machine) appears to be only trying to connect to the local exchange server.
I have not yet switched off the exchange server but have removed my email account from the system.

I tried to create a new profile for 2016 but it cannot find my online email account (autodiscover was reported as working ok when I set up the online account and ISP MX records etc)

Thanks for any help.

Recently (within the past couple of weeks), I have had two users bring up a strange issue to me. First let me preface. We are mostly a Dell shop here (on Windows 7 and Office 2010) getting ready to transition to Lenovos for our next round of hardware refreshes (together with Windows 10 and Office 2016); however, we do have a few beta users who are using X1 Yogas (mostly executives) with Windows 10 and Office 2016.  Back to the two users...they both showed me the most peculiar issue within Outlook that I cannot replicate (I am on an X1 Carbon, Windows 10, Office 2016). When crafting an email in Outlook, select popup/dropdown menu items will only show for a split second. To be specific, Outlook's normal behavior when you enter the first few characters of frequent email recepients you get a small popup window with the closest matches containing those characters. That popup window stays open until you click on one of the choices or finish typing out the recipient's email address. On these users, the recipient choices do pop up, but for only a split second and it disappears - it doesn't stay open for long enough to even read who the choices were. The other issue is when clicking "Attach file". It has the same behavior of showing up for a split second - once again, not even long enough to read your choices - then disappearing immediately. It's driving our users crazy and I can't seem to find any fixes for it. I thought it was the mouse clicking speed, but no matter w... Read more

A:Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

In terms of UI, all 3 are user friendly.

Visio files are received as attachments in Outlook 2016. Visio Viewer 2016 and IE11 are also installed on Windows 10 (1607).
Previewing the Visio file (VSD in this case) is successful. However, when you try to open the Visio file, IE11 attempts to open it (as expected) but only displays a blank page.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this issue?   Other articles suggest that Visio Viewer 2016 does not support IE11.

Performed a clean install of Win 10 14332 and all is working well with the exception of installing my corporate MS Exchange email via Office 2016.

The issue is when I launch MS Outlook and provide the appropriate credentials (email, password, etc.) I receive the additional MS Security prompting for the corporate MS Exchange email/account (password (email or Domain account). The issue, even though the MS Security box is present I can?t click the field to enter the password and MS Outlook (32) goes into a Not Responding status in task manager ? see below.

I'm at my wits end on this one and have searched online blogs and guides for hours to no avail.

I'm trying to log into a desktop only version of Outlook (one with full ribbon and lots of choice tool bars etc) as opposed to the basic offering of 365 or web outlook. I managed to get into it using a clients email address earlier but now I can't gt that one off my system to log in a new one to ty out some new things I need setting up such as email mail merge. I can't do lots of testing and trying out on their account but I'm unable to delete that one from the account settings. I tried setting up another one in the account settings and changing the default but still no joy getting rid of it.

Hopefully some of this makes sense and you can help.

Many thanks

I have used my Office Outlook 2016 syncing with my Msn.com email for years, and as of 10/12/16, my outlook started to have issues. Nothing I did on the outlook synced up with the online emails nor anything that attacked that account (my iPad/iPhone) but whatever I did on those reflected.

For example, I deleted out my junk on Outlook, and it would not reflect that change, but I was still getting new emails into my Outlook.

I tried a couple of things, then removed my msn.com email, and restarted. When I tried to reconnect back to my email, (add email) it would always restart office outlook. Has done this every single day, though I can retrieve and do everything from my apple products or through the online Outlook (aka outlook live). But since I have tons of windows open, I don't need to try to keep track of my email when outlook did this. (the office products)

To make it more interesting, my Gmail accounts are still all linked and working through the office outlook. (it's sad when google is working better than their Microsoft's own email system!) I have restarted, repaired and done everything, even checked my privacy settings which are all set up correctly.

Has anyone else had these issues, and can help me?

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load. Restoring again today "fixed" it. Now it wants to update again, so I will disable updates until the problem is fixed. I don't know which particular "patch" is causing the problem; there were about 22 of them that installed.

One of my systems (out of four) that all have recently ( about 3 weeks back) been completely reloaded for Office 365 including a full run of the MS uninstaller app first, now has a feature that many people have asked for but MS has yet to restore. On this one system spellcheck works in a way I have never seen and I would LOVE to get the same functionality onto the other systems if possible.

In our office, ONE other person out of 30 also seems to have lucked out and gotten the same setup but no one else has.
This is Office 365 Business installing the 2016 App package. All users have the same option which is Office Insider Slow.
Ver. 1610 build 7466.2023. The spellcheck feature I am seeing like this is in the desktop software not the Cloud version.

On the one "special" copy Spellcheck has become a much More useful and handy option. Any misspelled word is underlined in the usual red squiggly line but after that, right clicking it brings up many new options to correct.

It has the usual suggested correct spellings - but - now each of them is accompanied by a short dictionary-like definition of the word when spelled that way. PLUS they each have another black arrow that if clicked offers to read the word aloud and more important offers to make that spelling of the word into an Auto-correct option.. Right There!. No need to jump through all the usual hoops to get it added.

This same 'feature' also works in Word and all the other Office Desktop Apps on that o... Read more

Hello Everyone,

I am setting up my email accounts in Outlook 2016. I always do a manual setup and on my outlook.com email accounts, I use Exchange ActiveSync.

My questions are this.

What is this new option of selecting Office 365 and when would I use this option? When I did select the Office 365 option and pressed next my outlook would crash, any fix? What is the best selection to choose from when setting up my outlook.com account that would be great for automatically syncing with my calendar etc. on outlook.com or apple etc.?

Thank you very much for any help and assistance.

A:Outlook 2016 Manual Email Account Setup, Office 365 option? & Crashes

Manual setup for outlook.com accounts is absolutely unnecessary, Outlook 2016 does that automatically in a few seconds.

That being said, if you insist in doing it manually the correct option is Exchange ActiveSync. Office 365 option is for so called workplace email accounts, Azure AD / Office 365 for Business or Enterprise users. You select that option only if your organisation uses Office 365 and you want to set up your workplace email in Outlook 2016.

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

Office 2016 Installation Routine Deleting Older Stand-alone Apps

I can't say I wasn't warned. I was part way through installing Microsoft Office 2016 on my primary workstation when I got a message that said, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016." The error message went on to say that if I decided to continue anyway, my copy of Microsoft Visio Standard 2013 would be removed. Since I had the original disk from when I purchased the software, I went ahead. Bad move. It turns out that when Microsoft says that Visio 2013 won't work with Office 2016, it means it won't even have the chance to work. Any attempt to reinstall the software will be thwarted. The fact that you paid for the software is beside the point. You're basically out of luck. When I went to the Microsoft community forums, which is where Microsoft handles much of its tech support, I discovered that I wasn't alone. Apparently hundreds of people who'd purchased stand-alone Microsoft Office products were affected, and they weren't happy about it.

Furthermore, the problem extended far beyond Visio. Users with Microsoft Project, Publisher, Access, InfoPath and SharePoint Designer were also affected. Likewise, Microsoft customers who purchased Office Apps that are normally part of Office suites but may have been purchased separately, such as Outlook 2013, were also affected.

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

First time post here, hope I follow all the rules.

Looking to acquire MS Office 2016 Professional. I have 4 computers, 3 tablets, 3 phones in the house. I have read different things about buying the software vs subscribing in terms of how many devices the software could be installed on. 2 computers use Windows 7, 1 uses Windows 8.1 and 1 uses Windows 10. Seeking advice/referrals on the best/most cost effective way to get MS Office on at least all the computers. All computers currently use MS Office 2007. Thanks.

A:Best way to get Office 2016

i would subscribe to put a standalone version of office on all those machines would be expensive

Assuming and average price of 120 for Office Home & Student
4 computers = 480 and does not include a tablet at that price

the subscription service at 80 per year and you can add to PCs and tablets upto 5 devices - so thats 6years to get a saving - And you are likely to change machines in that time

Also with the subscription you get the FULL version and all products (outlook, publisher - which would cost 250 )

unless you can find a multi-license version to run on 3 or more PCs
then the subscription maybe the way to go.

I have Office 2003 and tried downloading and running 2016. It did the download as expected and put icons down in the task bar. When I clicked on the Excel tab, it said it would activate it if I put in my email address and phone number. The alternative was to enter the Product Key. Everything acted, again, as if all was well and then it said it had stopped running and I should shut it down. Repeated tries gave me the same results. Trying any other component (Word, Powerpoint, etc.) also caused an immediate crash. FWIW, my first attempts to use it were to bring up previous files made in the 2003 version. This install was done through a web site and was part of a group offer. Any thoughts? Was I supposed to uninstall the 2003 version first? There weren't any instructions.
I uninstalled it for now.

Hi there

It looks like that a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2016 will be available at around 90 GBP - 105 EUR while an Office 365 subscription will be around 60 GBP - 73 EUR for 1 year. Since the Student edition will work on 3 machines it seems to me the subscription model is bad value compared with Office 2016.

Now there might be a caveat -- not sure if OUTLOOK 2016 is included with Student and Teacher --we'll have to wait and see.

There *Might* also be an Upgrade price from Office 2010 / 2013 too.

I bought my Office 365 for cheap in college. It is registered to me under a college email that I no longer can access.
(this is a problem because I used that account to sign up for Bing Ads and the customer support is always messing with me to prove it is my account, hard to do when you cannot access the old email, it is a pain in the rear)
Anyway, if I buy 365 again and register it under a new email, will I lose access to all the storage I have in my school account, or will that remain. Can the accounts be synced? (the on-screen prompts imply they can be synced, but I don't trust MS enough to not verify that this is true)

I assume if I just renew it under the now-defunct email address nothing will change. Except I will be out $69 for a 1 year subscription.

What if I just buy Office 2016 for $71 and keep it for several years.
(if these guys are for real, https://www.istarsoftware.com/112-microsoft-office-2016)

Is there a difference for my purposes? I use MS Word, Excel and Outlook daily.
But I use them at the novice to lower average level user level.

Do you think Office 2016, that will last for several years and is cheaper, will be OK?

I use Outlook to access various emails and I do some very simple spread sheet manipulations with Excel.

To be honest, if it weren't for Outlook I would probably not buy it at all. I like the email client. Otherwise Open Office (I think it is called) is more than sufficient I would think.

Hi, it's me the perpetual computer rookie. I have several issues I could use your help with.

1 - I have MS office 2016 and 2003 on my computer. The 2016 is too cumbersome for my taste. My computer defaults to 2016 every time I open a file session of Word or Excel. I want to know if I delete the 2016 version, will the 2003 office automatically take over.
I have both discs for the 2003 and 2016 so I can reinstall one if in the future if I want.
Part 1.1 - If I delete the 2016 will that affect my Gmail viewing screen.

2 - Every so often when I open my computer in the morning, the session icons on my desk top that I left the night before are gone/closed. I am thinking that MS is sending updates over night and causing the icons to disappear. Is that a possibility?

If I'm not in the right forum please let me know. I have an HP Stream notebook 8.1. I got it not knowing that there wasn't much room on the harddrive. I have Onedrive cloud service through Microsoft office 2016/365. I don't use any of the Microsoft office progams, except for word and onedrive. I was wondering if there was a way to individually uninstall the programs I don't use or move all of it to onedrive to get it off my hard drive, as that seems to be whats taking up most of my space.

Hi cstull1217 Microsoft Office allows you to uninstall components separately. To do so, simply go in the Control Panel and uninstall Microsoft Office. It'll ask you if you want to uninstall Office, repair the installation, modify it, etc. Select the option to modify Office, and opt-out the ones you don't need before proceeding.https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Install-or-remove-individual-Office-2010-programs-and-components-aeb80df5-326c-4afc-8064-bd195f560753

Rant first, tips below.Bought a 310-15ABR for my daughter and paid for Office 2016 Student & Home (not worthless 365) with the idea that since it's a full Office 2016, others could use machine. We created a MS account for her when initializing Win 10 and she created password.Days later, when she first tried to use Word, she was prompted for an Activation Key.While annoying for something that should have been 'activated' when I bought it, sounds simple enough. Where's the card with Product Key or instructions to get it ?After searching everywhere for card or something with key, gave up and called Lenovo Support. Big mistake.Support language barrier is daunting. Have to phonetically spell out everything - "Three One Zero Dash One Five Alpha Baker Romeo..." - and then listen to them repeat it back.Support did a LetMeIn/Rescue123 remote control install which installed itself as a hidden Win Service. Then proceeded to fumble around for an hour (mouse around, [Run], type chars, bksp over some chars, retype, close [Run], mouse around, launch MSPaint (?!), close Paint, talk to colleague, [Run], type chars, bksp over chars, repeat....).They finally installed what appeared to be a couple of MS updates and then WITHOUT WARNING (they were silent on phone) rebooted machine. Great. Daughter no longer around to log back in.Luckily I had created an additional local user Admin login and could get back in.Despite my pleas that we were no longer logged in as the primary user, Support had ...
