G50-80 - BIOS Settings - Intel Virtualization Technology is auto disabling

Q: G50-80 - BIOS Settings - Intel Virtualization Technology is auto disabling

Hello, my I'm Abel my Lenovo is G50-80, my OS is Ubuntu 17.10

I'm using Android Studio for development so I need to enable VT-X feature so I can run Android Virtual Devices.
What happens is, I enable Intel Virtualization Technology in BIOS and save the changes then exit. I login into Ubuntu run this inside terminal "cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep vmx svm" which responds "grep: svm: No such file or directory".

I go back to BIOS and the options is disabled.

So the bottom line is, everytime I enable the option Intel Virtualization Technology, it's being disabled and I don't know why.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently started using Oracle VM VirtualBox to run other operating systems within Windows 7 (for running old games). For this, I have virtualization enabled in my bios (instructed to do so in the VirtualBox manual).

I also use digital multitrack recording software and hardware to create music, which I like to devote as much system resources as possible to when running (disable Internet connection, turn off firewall and anti-virus, close real-time defragmenter, etc.). Multitrack recording really pushes hard drive access, and the sound processors place heavy demand on the CPU.

My question is: Does the virtualization technology take up any resources, or slow my system down any? Would there be any benefit in disabling virtualization in the bios when I'm recording?

Thanks!
~Syn~

Hi, Rapidly tapping the ESC key after power on should get you to Startup Menu and from there you can select Computer Setup (bios). If you can't get to the Startup memu using the ESC key then you will need to take a longer route to get into the UEFI settings.  Review this procedure. The below image is reflective for the Leeds motherboard in your PC. There is not a lot of differences between the below image and that which Paul had posted.  You will need to change the Disable to Enable and then save the settings. The other changes will require Windows 8 Pro or higher and also to enable the function under Turn Windows Features On or Off.

I'm struggling to enable VT-x on Lenovo X1 Yoga despite having executed a lot of troubleshooting steps. When I go to BIOS I see two options:- Intel (R) Virtualization Techonology- Intel (R) VT-d FeatureThe weird thing is that when I set Enabled on the first one, the Intel Processor Identification Utility and haxm_check.exe tells me I don't have VT support! If I disable "Intel (R) Virtualization Techonology" in the BIOS then the tools tell me I have VT support. Problem is, despite the tools saying it is available (but only when it is Disabled in the BIOS), the intelhaxm-android.exe setup fails with the message:"This computer meets the requirements for HAXM, but Intel Virtualization Techonology (VTx) is not turned on."The "Hyper-V Platform"  on Turn Windows features 'on or off gets greyed out too, which may indicate the VT is not enabled. I have Hyper-V disabled; Performed multiple cool shutdowns; Updated BIOS; Nothing worked.Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.  The only way to make Windows 10 recognize VT is to disable it on BIOS!!!Having it disabled on BIOS Intel tools say it is supported (otherwise it shows no support)However, it is seen as disabledAnd HAXM does not install The BIOS version is up to dateHyper-V is disabled

Hi All,

I have a Satellite Pro P100 P/N PSPA4E-00X00HEN on which I have just installed Windows 7 RC.

I desperately need to run Virtual PC 2007 (other versions won't work) on it but it wants Assisted-Hardware Virtualization enables in the BIOS (Phoenix Technologies V4.70).

I have just updated to the latest BIOS version but it doesn't have the facility to enable AHV in it.
I have checked the processor specifications and it does have the Intel Virtualization Technology facility.

From what I have read up on the internet, although the Processor is capable the manufacturers on the computers/notebooks, in this case Toshiba, program the BIOS to their liking which will either enable or disable certain features.

What I would like to find out is, is there going to be another upgrade to enable Virtualization or is there another way to do it.

Many thanks in advance.

A:Satellite Pro P100 - How to enable Intel Virtualization Technology

Hi

From my knowledge the usage of Virtual PC 2007 does not require a virtual technology supported by hardware (CPU).
I used Virtual PC and Virtual Machine on PC without the VT capability.

But you are right. The Intel CORE2 DUO T7400(2.16GHZ) CPU supports the VT

Unfortunately from my knowledge the P100 BIOS does not support the option to enable/disable the VT.

the bios is american megatrends inc. 1303, 19/03/2007
with 3gb of ddr2.

the problem is,
i could not get the vmware 6.5 to host a 64 bit guest os.

"attempting to load a 64-bit applicatoin, however this cpu is not compatatible with 64-bit mode."

i notice that it is caused by vt, but i can't find it anywhere on the bios screen.

also, do you know if my pc/ mb and cpu described above support the 64 bit guest?

i have never been running a 64 bit on this pc yet.

but, the asus website provides the bios for vista 64bit, so my guess is that this cpu (although its ******) but still capable of handling 64bit, namely, vista.
the website doesn't have services for win7 tho.

can you help?

A:bios is missing virtualization technology (vt) option what should i do?

What its asking does not have to do with being 64bit,

It requires that you have a motherboard and CPU that support vurtilization and I'm sorry to have to tell you but it seems that your motherboard does not support that Feature, This is not something you can upgrade your bios its a physical hardware limitation.

And you can not have a 64bit guest OS on a 32bit Host it is not possible with VMware.

Before carefully reading that Home Premium does not support W7 XP mode, I reset the computer's BIOS to Intel Virtualization Technology. Assuming that there is NO hit to normal single mode operating performance in this mode I'm inclined to leave the BIOS at this setting rather than move it back to the default in the event that I install a third party VM app in the future.

Is there any drawback to leaving the BIOS controller setting in the virtualization mode?

There's no drawback as such. Even if you use any 3rd party software like Virtualbox or VmWare, you wont need to enable Virtualization.

Can someone please advise if they have Virtualization support (for VT-x) enabled with the same Yoga 1st gen?  Also, some other settings that I am unable to change are the boot order sequence.  Thanks!  I just purchased the 1st Gen X1 Yoga, laptop second hand and noticed the BIOS (UEFI BIOS) has some number of items disabled or enabled without the ability to be changing them.  I did some reading up on the ThinkCentre and Thinkpad but still couldn't find an answer about this. I even updated the BIOS to the latest release successfully from the Lenovo support website. But the same options that were there are there still and are also still "greyed out". Why can my Yoga not make use of VT-x?  Also how could I somehow be altering the boot order either from inside the BIOS or not?  Something else I am aware and definitely willing to try if it makes sense is to Reset the device...but only if that is necessary, since I would not want to have to take a chance of bricking this newly acquired machine.

A:X1 Yoga 1st Gen virtualization and other bios settings disabled

Hello and welcome,

It's not something I've ever messed with  but my guess is that you have a BIOS supervisor password set.  AFAIK that leaves some options grayed out.

If that's the case you'll need to get the password from the seller.  There's no back door and Lenovo service can't change it either.  A motherboard swap is the only way to get around that kind of password.

Again, this is a bit above my pay grade. Perhaps others will have other suggestions.

My X1Y G1 BIOS definitely supports VT-x and boot menu options and changes.

I have an Aspire S5, with a 128GB SSD. The SSD is seen in the laptop as two 64GB drives, and is configured in RAID0 as default. At one point the RAID failed, and I tried to factory reset but the laptop wouldn't get into the recovery-mode (pressing ALT+F10 and all variations of ALT/CTRL/F-buttons) so I reinstalled manually with a USB. In BIOS, both drives are seen as 64GB, but in Windows only the one drive I installed on is seen as 64GB, the other one is still seen as the RAID-drive (128GB). It's not usable since I have to format it first but I don't dare to do that. I can see that the recoverypartition is still on this, but since RAID0 being RAID0, I'm assuming that all data on this ghost-partition is not usable in any way. When starting the laptop I get the Intel Rapid Storage Technology prompt (press CTRL+I), and it's saying that the RAID has failed, listing both drives (partitions), one of them as a member and the other one (the one I reinstalled Windows on) not as a member. So I deleted that configuration and thought I'd recreate it and reinstall Windows again. But when I deleted the configuration I can no longer access Intel Rapid Storage Technology at all, the prompt never comes up! It just boots straight into Windows. Pressing CTRL+I at startup gives nothing, probably because IRST isn't loading at all... I'll assume that the recoverypartition is gone forever since I already reinstalled on one of the partitions, but I'd like to at least get RAID work... Recently I upgraded my BIOS to the latest version: "F.63 for HP EliteBook Folio 9470m". The first thing catching my attention, when I was checking the BIOS, was the missing entry: Intel Rapid Start Technology (FFS). This removal seems the intention of HP, according to the product change notification (Document ID: c05143560). Unfortunately, I've seen this product change notification afterward. My question: ?What was the reason, for HP, to decide removing the Intel Rapid Start Technology (FFS) feature from the BIOS??  HP mentions, according the product change notification, the disappearance of the feature, however not why.  There must be a reason and I like to know. Thanks in advance.

That is a very good question. The AMD A8 PRO-7600B  APU does have virtualization technology as a feature. According to the Maintenance & Service Guide on page 56, that feature can be enabled in the System Security tab. @lil_DK Sorry but that CPU does support VT-x or VT-d. Scroll down here. https://ark.intel.com/products/69669/Intel-Pentium-Processor-B980-2M-Cache-2_40-GHz REO

Hoping that someone on this forum can help me. I have a 1 yr old thinkpad T460p which is refusing to boot at all after setting Intel AMT to be disabled in BIOS - its bricked. After making this change, laptop rebooted and displayed message "unconfiguring..." After that, it went to just a white cursor in the top left corner that doesn't flash. I left it for5 minutes or so before trying to reboot and now... I can't get anything except this white cursor. The machine still seems responsive - I can turn keyboard locks on and off and if I do control alt delete I see the screen flash and then come back to the cursor so it is definitely rebooting. I've tried rebooting and holding down F1, F8 as well as pretty much every other key on the keyboard. I've taken out battery and AC, held power for 30 seconds then plugged back in and its still stuck! Does anyone have an idea how to get this laptop to boot again? I can't enter BIOS at all, just this white cursor in the corner of the screen.

A:help! thinkpad t460p bricked after disabling intel AMT - no BIOS/UEFI

First, do you have warranty remaining?  If yes, call for service; don't take it apart.

If no, do the same thing you did (remove battery, etc.) plus disconnect the coin-cell (CMOS) battery.  You remove the back cover and it is to the lower right.  Let it sit for 30 seconds before putting it back together.  This will reset the BIOS to default settings.  DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A SUPERVISOR (BIOS) PASSWORD THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW.
