Multiple Program Executions

Q: Multiple Program Executions

Lately when I have tried to open an installation EXE for a vocaloid, it would execute the file over and over again (confirmed by checking the processes in the windows task manager). It started once I downloaded Daemon Tools Lite and I have since then deleted that and the vocaloid installation. I think that may have fixed the problem but I would still like to see if there are any lingering problems that may pop up later on.
Also, I am pretty sure I have access to a windows Boot CD but I am not 100% sure.

Preferred Solution: Multiple Program Executions

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello guys,

I googled for these symptoms everywhere but could not find anything.
I would deeply appreciate any help I could get on this.
It all started 2 days ago, I turned my PC usually and proceeded to work. I have a habit of looking at task manager every several minutes, just to make sure of things. So I saw several copies of Winlogon.exe Normally that would not be a problem, but I am not running several user accounts on this PC and therefore I did not expect to see several winlogon.exe-s. Well, I let it slip and the next thing I know there are 130 Winlogon.exe running.
I rolled system 2 days back but the same thing happened. At some point (around 200 proccesses) winlogons crash and leave only 4-5 of them hanging in process list.
As I found out the day after, not only winlogon.exe is affected. Same happens when I run firefox. It took me 20 minutes to get on the forum alone. Right now all winlogon.exe-s died but i have around 70 firefox.exe running, but only 1 actual browser window. I can see which one of those is actual browser window because I can see proportionally more memory that it is using. When I started up firefox they kept spawning around up to 150 copies and then started crashing.

I am attaching the copy of dxdiag.

Please advise on this, I could just reinstall windows, but I am very interested what might cause this behavior.

Thanks to all that care. I'm like a biology professor looking at these multiplying:))

Last week my system got significantly slower.  Task Mgr shows a lot of "dllhost.exe" tasks running, stealing all my memory, and dramatically slowing my system.  Since then Norton has reported multiple virus attacks being stopped.

How can I fix this?

A:dllhost.exe multiple executions taking all my memory

Welcome aboard  It looks like Powerliks malware.It'll require elevated help. Please follow the instructions in THIS GUIDE starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it HERE. Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

I would like to be able to execute a batch script as users log off a windows 98 system. I know that there are many ways of executing a program as users log on, however the way my script works it would be most effective if it ran as the user logged off.
Any ideas are welcome, thanks

These popups are occurring about once a day. They have various names, and Google searches on the DLL names are returning no items. SpyBot appears to believe that I'm clean, as does SuperAntiSpyware. Funny thing - neither SpyBot nor SuperAntiSpyware start automatically upon startup any longer (this has me worried...)

Per Windows Update instructions, I recently updated to IE 8. This may/may not (probably!) was around the time the popup began occurring, but better to be safe than sorry.

Another issue I've encountered recently, around the same time frame, is that my SigmaTel C-Major Audio card has stopped working. Device Manager seems to think it's functioning properly. I've tried disabling/re-enabling it, as well as shutting down/starting up the system. No help. I've tried using the WIndows troubleshooting tool to help fix it. Nada.

One other thing that happened around the same time that's probably unrelated - I stopped receiving email notifications from Facebook (stop laughing.) No settings were changed.

Any help on any of my crap would be appreciated.

Hi,
I'm new to ATA and started testing it in our domain. ATA reports DNS recon and I tried running wmic and psexec commands as decribed in the ATA playbook:
wmic /node:dc1 process call create ?net user /add InsertedUser pa$$w0rd1?
psexec \\dc1 -accepteula net localgroup ?Administrators? InsertedUser /add
For both I get an access denied (which is correct for the user I'm testing with). Shouldn't those tries also get reported in ATA? I don't see any message so far for those attempts.

Hi All,

I'm having problems with several programs that I am afraid are related to a virus.

Nero 12 platinum will not start at all (even after an un-install, restart and then re-install).

Eudora while working, clicking a link causes a window to open requiring switching to a running program, but there isn't a program that's running that would block the link.

Cannot start Internet Explorer, click shortcut, nothing happens.

My home network has been acting fluky, Cannot connect to my NAS as anything other than a media player.

As of now, I haven't found any other problems. A scan with AVG Free (2014) finds no viruses

Ad-aware found some issues but they were cleaned up

Spy-bot found some issues and I allowed it to clean those up as well.

Hope someone can start me in the right direction to solving this problem!!

Thanks

A follow-up..

These problems persist in Safe Mode as well, so I assume it's not a driver issue.

Yet another follow-up. I have 2 accounts on this machine, the Admin one (mine)

and a secondary one for the family. I cannot log on to the secondary acct. I received

an error message stating that "Group Policy Client failed at logon"

I also noted that I forgot to mention that this is a Win 7 Ultimate set-up.

Thanks again

A bunch of things started happening about the same time with my pc. Outlook Express sometimes freezes when I click on a hotlink in a message and does not open the browser. My IE7 browser often freezes and has to be shut down. Usually this happens when a second window or tab is open. I also have Firefox and it will also occasionally say an error has occured and it has to shut down. If more than one Word XP file is open, both will just disapear when you click on one in the bottom tray. And for the first time ever the other day Adobe Photoshop gave a message that an error had occured and it shut down. These have to be connected somehow. Help? I don't know where to start.

I have been experiencing some slight problems recently that have now escalated. Task Manager is missing the tabs at the top so it will only show the process explorer and also no longer has a close button. Any downloads I make regardless of the internet connection fail after about 2 1/2 minutes. MBAM will no longer run at all. I was also using 7-zip for my zip and rar files and it also is no longer running. I'm now concerned even more when the initial run of DDS resulted in the computer crashing. I appreciate any help. Thanks

Hello all!

Normally, I'm able to find a thread that discusses any problem I may be having, but I have a rather unique issue today. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 on a HP Pavilion laptop. The install went well, but I ran into an issue when I installed GameMaker 8.1 Standard. It is an old game creation program that I still like using for sprite creation.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, reinstalling to a new directory, and even copying the install folder from my old computer, but no matter what I do, the program will open new windows repeatedly until the computer runs out of memory or I find a way to shut it down. Each window creates a new process called Game_Maker.exe *32, but there is always one process running called GameMaker.exe. If I end that process from the Task Manager, it stops and I can close windows until I only have one copy of the program running. The tricky part is, that process is reopened each time a new Game_Maker.exe *32 thread is started, meaning I have to have impeccable timing if I want to actually stop the program from sucking all my RAM. Otherwise, I get an error stating that the thread can't be closed because it no longer exists. I uploaded a screenshot of Task Manager during this (slightly hilarious) mess. I think that the auto-updater is the issue, but there is no setting to turn it off. Also, to make this even more ridiculous, I should probably mention that this is happening on my home computer, which is the exact same... Read more

Hi,

All is fine except when I go to Start ->Shutdown I get multiple small windows pop up saying such and such program (CCSvcHst, Auto Complete, Base To Pane Form, Parking Window) not responding End now. Sometimes the windows disappear by themselves sometimes not.

Background Info: This all started about a week ago......I tried to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 and it kept crashing (IE8 would start then I would get "The instruction at "0x04d6e8b4" referenced memory at 0x04d6e8b4". The memory could not be "written".) Uninstalled using Add/Remove Programs and went back to IE6....then noticed my computer running really slow (felt like I was on a really old computer) and I could barely have one application open, sometimes none. Something was definitely hogging the CPU speed etc. I suspected Malware/Virus but was not positive as Norton was on and has always caught everything.Then upon boot up I saw a system32 dll error which I googled (giveyaha.dll). I also checked the system32 windows folder and found more. That is when I found this forum, thank god. Looking through the forum I found this topic (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic214438.html) very similar to some of my issues. Downloaded Malwarebytes' which crashed multiple times at first but finally got through and found 34 infections...mostly vundo and some BHO trojans.....after fixing those computer was much better but not quite right. Alright, so I'm running what I believe to be the most recent version of Windows 10 (not sure how to check but I've installed all the latest updates and everything) and over the past night. Or rather, over the past few hours, I've been having a lot of problems with my operating system.

Problems in the vein of multiple programs either crashing or lagging (such as Paint Tool Sai and Steam) as well as simple actions like opening the task manager and emptying the recycle bin have sometimes made Windows Explorer crash entirely.

I even had one issue where after "shutting down" my computer, my actual tower continued being on until I forcefully turned it off. And after that I had to run a startup repair to get it working again.

Now, about three days ago I installed an SSD into my PC and put Windows 10 on it so that my OS would run faster. And it's been working a charm... Right up until tonight.

A bit earlier tonight I tried downloading a few things and found that the downloads (which were .rar files) weren't extracting properly. And one of the files didn't even download properly. When I tried to move one of the files to an external USB, the problems began.

Fast forward to about now and I've restarted my system a few times, run Start-up repair and am running a full, thorough Malewarebytes scan: It's currently at Heuristic Analysis and has found nothing so far. And I ran a standard scan previously and found nothing, then, either. But I don't know what else could... Read more

So, now I have bought two Windows 7 on the same email account, whereas it says you are only allowed to have one per .edu email address.

I got my first copy (Home Premium) about a week ago, and it's already installed and being used. I have not touched (or downloaded) the second copy (Pro), but I've already been charged the $33.

What should I do? Can I download and install this second copy? Will they charge me for the full amount later on?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello,
Really struggling here. I'm good with getting around my machine, reports, scans etc, but this one has me stumped. Somewhere in the wake of a failed windows update, or possibly something scammy my Avast antivirus, my registry or something got all screwed up. Here's the result:

Outlook 2007 opens, but no mail since yesterday, and when I click 'Send/Receive' , a pop-up says 'Not Implemented'
Excel 2007 tries to open, but pop-up says 'stdole32.tlb' after that, Access to CSV error 1706 - No valid source______
Word 2007 opens and works, but only after 'Setup Error- The setup controller has encountered a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error'. After clicking 'OK', I get 'Please wait while windows configures MS Office 2007' then 'stdole32.tlb' again
Attempting a 'Change / Repair' on Outlook or Office 2007 does nothing when I click the button.
Snagit 'Could not locate help file, Snagit.chm, Online help will not be available
Camtasia - attempts to install when run
Acrobat Pro 8 - attempts to install at startup, then fails
Photoshop CS5 - Fatal Error during installation
Any attempt to do a system restore on 4 prior points fails each time
I'm sure there's more, but the above programs are critical to me :-(
Any help, scans, logs, or otherwise would be helpful. Already did a scannow, but file was so large I had to delete a... Read more

For now I would suggest you save any documents to a disc or external drive so that way hopefully they can be opened on another computer with office, although if you delete Office and put it back on the documents will still be there, but I would save them for now since it is not just Office that is being effected. when you put office back on you can link Outlook to the pst file so you don't loose your emails.
However there maybe a lot more going on here than simply re-installing programs will fix, for now, just save your documents and see if anyone else has encountered your problem before, I am sure someone has, wait for some advise and maybe post this post on a few forums so that it can reach more people and sooner or later you will come across someone that will be saying I know what to do with that.

I am looking for a program like DOSBox that I can run multiple instances of to enable me to run multiple instances of a single modern windows program on XP or other version that is by artificial nature alone a program that only allows you to run one-of-one instance. Sort of something to prevent me having to run a virtual OS just to open a second instance of this one-of-one allowed program. It allows one, i want to run two. Hi. I'm looking for a program for Win 8 that can fit files and folders to multiple DVDs and minimize free space. It should be able to split folders but preferably not files. I'd like to avoid using an archiving program except for files that are larger than a DVD.

I tried some programs found online, but they can only split files while folders must stay intact. Others can only split one folder at a time. Finally, I tried the disc spanning feature in some burning software but they don't appear to be efficient in minimizing free space. I sampled one and for the first disc it used 4 GB. I did things manually and for the first disc I was able to use 4.475 GB.

Good evening guys,

So my question is as the title says Is there is any program that let me change my folder/program or anything else to multiple permissions instead of just giving the user control of only of one permission i.e. grant administrator permission

What I want is give the user 2 to 3 choices what they want to do with the folder/program means they want to become a trusted installer of the current folder or they want to become a administrator or they want to become a simple user with all permission.

Is there is any program that can do this or any script that can do this!!

I'm wondering if there's some way I can set it up so that programs use multiple connections to a server instead of just 1. I'm asking as it appears that my ISP has done something to where I'm only getting about half the normal speed on any one connection to a server. I'm going to check to see if they are but in the mean time I want to try to find a solution anyway.

For example, if I open a Youtube video it is only buffering at around 66KB/sec. If I open another Youtube video then it uses up the remaining bandwidth, and then I am downloading at 120KB/sec which is the maximum for my connection. Up until this week a single Youtube video could buffer at 120KB/sec. The same is true for everything else.

I've checked on both PCs at my household and tried hooking directly to the modem with the same result.

This issue appeared to occur shortly after I installed Windows Service Pack 3. I also vaguely remember either a Java or Adobe Flash install at the same time. I continue to have errors with IE8 if I use the add-ons.2. Since that time, whenever I use windows explorer (My Computer) after clicking on the folders or attempting to open any files I get the following error:explorer.exe - Application ErrorThe instruction at "0x7c91b21a" referenced memory at "0x00000010" . This is my C# program for an assignment I'm working on. I know you guys can't give me the answer, but a little help would be greatly appreciated. My question is: what is the easiest way to add a choice between Salaried Employees and Hourly Employees in the line of code after Console.WriteLine("Are you a salaried employee or an hourly employee?"); Here is the code I have so far:
Code:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Text;

namespace Chapter5Exercise4
{
class Program
{
static void Main(string[] args)
{
string inValue;
bool SalariedEmployee;
bool HourlyEmployee;
double SalaryAmount;
double HourlyRate;
double HoursForWeek;
double TakeHomePay;

Console.WriteLine("Are you a salaried employee or an hourly employee?");
inValue = Console.ReadLine();
if (SalariedEmployee)
Console.WriteLine("Input the Salary Amount: ");
inValue = Console.ReadLine();
SalaryAmount = Convert.ToDouble(inValue);
Console.WriteLine("Your take home pay is: " + SalaryAmount + (-SalaryAmount * .34));
if (HourlyEmployee)
Console.WriteLine("Input your Hourly Rate:");
inValue = Console.ReadLine();
HourlyRate = Convert.ToDouble(inValue);

When I open up Add/Remove Programs, or even if I use Revo Uninstaller, I find that I have multiple versions of the same program installed. It's not *exactly* the same, it just seems that an older version wasn't uninstalled when the newer one was. I have read this tutorial on what to do when you didn't properly uninstall something and have "leftovers", but I'm not sure that that applies in this case. When I tried googling, I found something about why you might have multiple versions of Java installed, and that made sense, but these ones don't.The most annoying examples are:Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 Trial & Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 (something to do with it being a different suite?!)Spybot - Search & Destroy & Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 (that first one is version 1.6.2, so it's newer)What I basically want to know is if I can uninstall the earlier version without it turning around and uninstalling the whole thing (especially w/ Office, as I definitely need it but that damned trial is taking up almost 800MB!!), and I want to know why this happens in the first place so I can prevent it from occurring in the future!Then there's the gamut of Microsoft .NET Framework programs: 1.0 Hotfix, 1.1, 2.0 service pack 2, 3.0 service pack 2, 3.5SP1. Do I need any of those other than 3.5SP1 (and maybe that hotfix because it was apparently only just installed)?Any... Read more

A:Multiple versions of same program installed

Some programs may detect older versions installed and ask you or automatically remove the older version before installing. But other programs do not act this way. So a better approach is when you install a new software you should check and uninstall older or different versions first. You can always go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the older un-needed versions. You can uninstall the trial version of Office Student. If that changes some file opening or association behavior, then you can perform a repair install of Office Enterprise.You need all .NET versions because you never know which software is using which version of .NET. So keep all the versions and the security fixes. Hotfixes are needed to protect you from known vulnerabilities, so do not uninstall them.

Hi,

I am currently having a network card with multiple IPs running Windows Server 2003.

Let's say that I want one program to do all its network communication with one ip and another program to use one of the other ips - how could I accomplish this?

A:Multiple IPs: Assign certain IP to specific program

That'll really only work inbound. Initiated connections [outbound] won't do so well, especially UDP (source IP will be first bound NIC)

For inbound, you simply make the service only listen on that IP.

For example: You can bind an IIS site to a specific IP, so now only port 80 is listening on a specific iP.

It seems like a few programs, such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 (seems to be limited to Adobe), expand past my main monitor, and reach the monitors to the left and right.

This happens when the programs are maximized.

I've included two screenshots of this issue. Notice the additional black border around the main screen (middle one).

Hello, I'm looking for a way to look up a term or phrase in multiple online dictionaries simultaneously.
I use online German<>English dictionaries such as dict.cc, Leo, Beolingus (and quite a few others) and it's time consuming having to type or paste the same search term into multiple dictionaries one after the other.

Is there a program out there that can automate this process by allowing me to enter the term once, and then look up that term in multiple dictionaries for me?

All the online dicts I use insert the search term into the web address bar, but in their own individual ways (i.e. there's no standardized syntax for this).

For example, if I look up the German word "Hund" ("dog", "hound", plus other non-canine-related meanings), then these 3 dictionaries display "Hund" in the address bar as follows:
- dict.cc: http://www.dict.cc/?s=Hund
- Leo: https://dict.leo.org/ende/index_de.html#/search=Hund&searchLoc=0&resultOrder=basic&multiwordShowSingle=on
- Beolingus: http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/dings.cgi?service=deen&opterrors=0&optpro=0&query=Hund&iservice=

Does anyone know of an app that can do what I'm after? It would need to be customizable to some extent, so I can tell the app which syntax to use in the address bar for each individual online dictionary.

And if such a customizable app doesn't exist, what do you think a reasonable quote should be to get a custom software firm to create an app ... Read more

I really like aspects of the new taskbar, especially pinning program icons to it. I always would open my main program's in the same order so they would be in the same place on taskbar, but if I had to close one and reopen... oh well. so 7 fixed that problem, BUT.

If I have multiple windows open in same program (e.g. firefox), I lose the ability to minimize ALL windows controlled by that programs icon. When right clicking on icon, there should be a MINIMIZE ALL choice in addition to the CLOSE ALL. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Any 7 tweaker programs add this, or REG tweak??

whenever i have to re-install windows, i have a folder inside my downloads called Basic installation toolkit (B.I.T),which has inside, all of the programs i would use every day. Installing all of these programs one by one if a long and boring process , i would like to make an installer that will install them one by one silently (don't have to touch the computer and don't see the programs installing, only the installer which shows you which program is installing and how long is left) Much like the visual studio and Microsoft office installations, all you see is the programs installing, you don't have to click agree for every program. See attached file for picture of visual studio installation.

I have tried the NSIS Compiler and HM NSIS Edit tool but i don't think they are the right tools for the job, i also found this:Unattended, A Windows deployment system: Unattended/Silent Installation Switches for Windows Apps

it is a list of batch commands for installing programs, but does not work with all programs, e.g. antivirus and adobe installers.

Just hoping that someone would be able to help me out

In the pictures there are multiple copies of several Microsoft related 'programs'. Can I uninstall any of them? In image 1 there are multiple copies of the C++ Redist, each a different version. Surely all of them are not necessary, so could you have a look through the list and tell me which ones I'm safe to remove.

Thanks

A:Excess/multiple Windows program instillations

It would be best to leave all of them alone. Most would have been installed by applications and if not present the application would likely fail. It is possible that one or more could safely be removed but making that determination is not a simple thing. This is far more complex than it appears.

If you like, you could use the shortcut in the tutorial below to help making "new full backups" each time instead of "incremental backups".

Right, well, this all started about a month ago, when my Winamp would continously error out and close itself. I posted my problem on the Winamp forums and I was told that I was infected with some Malware. I bought Webroot antivirus, used multiple free scanners, and followed other guides directed towards people with similar problems. I found and killed as many problems as I could, and my Webroot scanner now says that I am clean. Unfortunatly the problems continue to persit and spread. Now my Firefox will error out at random times, many games (most annoying of which World of Warcraft) also close at random times.

I'm not actually sure if it's still a Malware problem, but I have a sneaking suspision it is. Specifically, O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - {3551784B-E99A-474f-B782-3EC814442918} - (no file), which I can never seem to remove and persists even in Safe Mode. Anyway, here's my Hijackthis.

is any other method to open two times the same program? or instal some how two times?

A:Open program multiple times - advenced

Welcome to the forum.

Having multiple instances open can be very problematic for some applications. Many developers deal with the problems by simply not allowing multiple instances. If you somehow managed to force this the results would be unpredictable.

Check in the programs setting to see if there is an option to allow multiple instances. If not I would not recommend trying to force it.
