Right Click or Shortcut to Toggle Taskbar hide or show

Q: Right Click or Shortcut to Toggle Taskbar hide or show

I'm having some issues where the taskbar in Windows 7 occasionally is getting in the way while using Google Chrome. Is there a way to quickly hide it .. hit my desired button .. then turn the taskbar back on without moving it or using the auto hide feature?

Thank You

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Rockit,

The problem is that the registry setting for this is a binary value that includes other settings that will vary per user account, and can't have a universal on/off for everyone without affecting the other settings.

If you like, you could use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to help create a couple of .bat files or a script to toggle taskbar auto-hide on/off.

I'd like it on the left next to the start button.
I know how to enable the quick launch bar and this includes it but the icons are really small and i don really need anything else over there.
I have the short cut that was posted on this forum and was wondering if there is a way of pinning it to the taskbar on its own.

Thanks for any help.

A:How to add the show desktop shortcut to the taskbar

Hello Dave,

The taskbar already has the Show Desktop feature built into it if you wanted to use that option instead.

Unfortunately, that shortcut can only be pinned inside the pinned Windows Explorer taskbar icon, or in the Start Menu pin area.

Hope this helps,

The only built-in way to manually disconnect and reconnect in Windows 7 that I've been able to find, requires a lot of mouse clicks and even on my Core-i7 steel nerves when it starts "troubleshooting" to reconnect very slowly.

I found a better way and because lots of people in several forums have been asking for it I hope it's going to be a Sticky.

Download http://itsamples.com/downloads/network-activity-indicator.zip (always scan downloads for viruses)
Activate it, it will show up as the Windows XP network activity monitor in the tray.
Right click it and click Network Connections.
You've now opened an explorer Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network Connections.
(I'm sorry, I found no other decent way to get to here)

Lets say you want a connect/disconnect Local Area Connection toggle on your desktop. You simply right-drag Local Area Connection from this control panel to your desktop, once you release your mouse button click on Create Shortcut. You can create such toggle shortcuts for every network connection that shows up in the list.. A simple double-click on the freshly made desktop item connects or disconnects whenever you like.

If you don't like the XP style network activity indicator, feel free to remove it now. But remember, once you close the Network Connections window, there is no decent way in Windows 7 to reopen it. As far as I know only the Network Activity Monitor knows how to do that. By the way, I do like the visual indicator of n... Read more

Hi, I have a kiosk PC that is looking pretty good however I have two outstanding issues.

The users can still right click on applications on the taskbar and receive a context menu even though I've disabled the context menu in the group policy editor.
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar - Enabled

And I can't figure out how to remove the "show desktop" icon in the systems notification tray.

Thanks in advance for any help
Megan Armstrong.

A:Windows 7 Restricted User - Remove Right click on taskbar icons; Remove show desktop icon

Hello Megan,

Hope you're doing fine.

Disabling context menu from application on the taskbar
Please note the task bar context menu for any application for windows 7 is sub-divided into two sections :

   a. Jumplist(to access recently opened files)
   b. Creating a new instance of the application, Pin/Unpin, Close window

We can only disable the Jump List of the Taskbar context menu but not the "new instance creation, Pin/Unpin, close window"

Please follow the steps below to disable jump list:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and then select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab and uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar".
3. Click OK.

Disabling Show Desktop from the system tray
Regarding the requirement of disabling the "Show Desktop" button alltogether from the System tray, this is by design.

There are no ways to remove it. All we can do is to disable aero peek at Taskbar properties by right clicking and uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".
There's a third party software which addresses this sopecific purpose but I'm not pretty sure if this works perfectly for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Please refer to the link below.

Using Windows 7 64-bit on a multiple monitor extended desktop: I've set my taskbar to auto-hide. I'm not sure which application is causing this to happen, but I've managed to get Windows to not display the task bar when I mouse over the bottom of the screen when the currently focused application is maximized. If I normalize the application, I can get the task bar to un-hide.  I had four apps open this morning when it happened again - Firefox, Thunderbird, Windows Explorer, and Visual Studio 2008.  I suspect that Visual Studio is somehow the culprit, but it's kind of difficult to quantify. Once the task bar decides that it doesn't have to un-hide itself, only a reboot fixes the issue. I saw this behavior in in the release candidate as well.

Hello,

Certain icons always show up in my taskbar. I go to properties and then customize and mark them as always hide but next time I reboot their back. There are things like my un-interruptible power supply which I care about for 10 minutes during the year and things that I know are always running such as my spyware and virus protection.

Does anyone know a place in the registry where it is possible to mark these things always hide and have it stick? I am tired of the clutter.

Here's a fun one.
I need to change the color of an Excel cell when a user selects it.

I have a spreadsheet which is a matrix of values 32cells by 30 cells. Users change the background color of a value when they have completed that task.

I would like the background(fill) to toggle between Grey and white when they select the cell. No other user entry is allowed and only the matrix cells will not be protected.

I think I need to create a function watching the onClick event but not sure.

Thanks for any guidance or help.
This needs to work on Excel 97 or greater.

Cheers,
Hammertime

A:Toggle Excel Cell color on click

>> onClick event

AFAIK there's no such thing for a worksheet. So firing an event when clicking a cell that's already selected could be a problem. There might be a workround but let's skip that for starters.

I'm confused that "No other user entry is allowed" yet users will be colouring (existing) values ; I guess you'd set up the values before issuing the sheet, and possibly set data validation of zero string length (NB - dv can be pasted over).

Try the below in the sheet module.

Rgds,
Andy

Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim r As Range
With ActiveSheet
Set r = .Range("A1:AD32")
End With
If Selection.Cells.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub
If Not Intersect(Target, r) Is Nothing Then
ActiveSheet.Unprotect
If Selection.Interior.ColorIndex = 16 Then
Selection.Interior.ColorIndex = 0
Else
Selection.Interior.ColorIndex = 16
End If
ActiveSheet.Protect
End If
End Sub

hi guys

i have a sheet in which i wish to toggle the background colour of banded rows.
i have part of the code but if someone could please assist. essentially what i want is if the user double clicks on the cell(in a specific range) the active cell colour changes as well as the font colour.

now when the user double clicks on that same cell again i need it to revert back to its original colour.
here is the code:

HTML:
Private Sub Worksheet_Activate()
PreviousAddress = ActiveCell.Address
End Sub

Private Sub Worksheet_BeforeDoubleClick(ByVal Target As Range, Cancel As Boolean)
On Error Resume Next

If ActiveCell.Value <> "" Then

Range(PreviousAddress).Font.ColorIndex = myFont
Range(PreviousAddress).Interior.ColorIndex = myBg
Err.Clear
Run "PrevAdd"
PreviousAddress = Target.Address
myFont = Target.Font.ColorIndex
Target.Font.ColorIndex = 1
myBg = Target.Interior.ColorIndex
Target.Interior.ColorIndex = 3
End If

End Sub

the module is:

HTML:

Public PreviousAddress$
Public myFont%
Public myBg%

Private Sub PrevAdd()
PreviousAddress = ActiveCell.Address
End Sub

I know this question has come up before and there are the typical cryptic responses by those that seem to have arthritis of the finger or want to appear to want to dismiss us ignorant people that are seeking an answer. Maybe I should be more forgiving as it has been stated often that we in the USA are often lacking in writing skills or lack command of the language.

In any case, I would like to know why my task bar will not hide without rebooting. This apparently occurs from time to time and simply pulling up "properties" and "applying" does not solve the problem.

I would like an answer that can be understood by others who have the same problem without having to start a thread and can go to the "search" function and find the answer. I can understand that there will be a few that will take the attitude that I should be grateful for whatever is offered and that I am being over demanding. Well I should have been able to Google this question and to find an answer to this common question. Instead, I find short cryptic and often irrelevant remarks that assume that we should have already known the answer.

The question: Why won't my task bar hide without rebooting and how do I fix it?

My task bar is set to hide, but won't. I think I've figured out what causes it, but not how to fix. It's been going on for some time and usually rebooting gave a temporary solution. I could never figure out what caused it ; it would just all of a sudden not hide. Well I just did a scan using my HP OfficeJet Pro 6810 and now the task bar is stuck open again.
I haven't tried yet, but it could also happen using the HP 6810 to print as well. So I guess HP is taking control of the task bar.

Do they show an icon in the system tray? Can the option be set to not show a tray icon? I am thinking maybe it disables AutoHide because it wants you to see the tray icon. Just guessing.
