XPS 15 the battery when at 20% drop immediately at 6%

Q: XPS 15 the battery when at 20% drop immediately at 6%

Hello, I have a XPS 9550 laptop that have almost a year of life. In the recent weeks the battery when arrive at 20% of charge suddently drop to 5% without a good reason (during play a mp4 or during write with MS Word for example, CPU is costant and there are no heavy operation).
The diagnostic test is passed (with elapsed time of 00:00:00 in report, is it normal?) and the battery health is at 88%, it have only 33 charge cycles because, when I can, I usually use the laptop with the charger.
I've writed at Dell Suppot (I have the premium warrantly for another two weeks), I sent the requested screen of the battery informations from the bios and executed the istructions, the answer was that battery is ok and all is normal (in this screen the bios report that battery status is "Excellent").
This is a graph of the battery report generated from Windows when you can see the last drop from almost 20% to 6% (is also reported that design capacity is 84 mWh and full charge capacity is 74 mWh):

Isn't it a symptom that some sectors of my battery is damaged?
Anyone had a similar problem? There are something that I can do?
The last thing that I can try is a Battery Calibration but not have precise information of the procedure for my laptop and it seems a bit risky.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I connect to my home page (Yahoo) fine, but after a few seconds the tab says "Connecting" and it refreshes. A few seconds later it happens again, but this time goes to the standard screen we all get saying it cannot connect. The same thing happens on many pages including all search engines and MSN Hotmail. The only ones that seem to be exempt are the sites I've visited over the past 5 days to try to fix this issue. I've tried so many diagnostic/removal tools that I'm afraid they may be conflicting with each other. I already had Norton Internet, Advanced SystemCare, and RegCure, and have since downloaded HijackThis, Anti-Malware, Spybot, and SuperAntiSpyware. Days ago I deleted ALL of my IE add-ons, reset DEP so it's now looking at all programs, de-installed the clip art program that I think gave me this nightmare, enabled my MSN internet connection firewall, and de-installed the Adware Professional I had just gotten because a scan said it was fake (not so sure). Today I deactivated my System Restore because I was told that the data in there is immune to the scans I've been running. Didn't make any difference.

Since this started last Saturday (now Wed.), it's gotten worse. Online pages are intact for shorter periods so it's very difficult to even click a button or paste a phrase. And now my other offline programs seem to be suffering. I just tried to open a Word doc and it took about 5 min. Went to Yahoo so I could describe the error screen I get (see ab... Read more

Hi, There seems to be a problem with the power management on my T570. I have two batteries, and I think the main one to be used is the battery 2. Sometimes, I'll be working unplugged, and my computer randomly turns off. Not the usual "Windows turning off" sequence, but an immediate blackout with no feedback. When I turn the computer back on, I see that Battery 2 is at 0% and Battery 1 is now in use. It does seem to be a problem in the power management, no? Thank you,Fred

A:My computer turns off immediately when Battery 2 reaches 0%, even if Battery 1 is 100%

Sounds like power management or battery reporting status wrong.  Are you still under warranty? If yes, call support first.  Can you get (borrow) another battery to try?

I am having an issue with my mouse settings - whenever I try to drag and drop a file, it opens before I have the chance to drag it. How do I change this in my settings?

A:Why do files open immediately when I click to drag and drop?

You could check the double-click speed setting for the mouse.

Do the file names get underlined when you put the mouse cursor over them? Then the explorer's Folder options may be set to one click instead of double click.

The vast majority of the time, whenever I try to drag & drop files from one folder to another while pressing the right mouse button in Explorer (i.e, to change the behavior from the default to either copy or move), the Explorer context menu almost immediately takes over, effectively making drag & drop impossible. Although every once in a while it works correctly.

This only happens on my 64-bit Windows 10 Pro (1703) machine; my Windows 7 computers work correctly. I've tried increasing the "show menu" delay time, but it didn't help (and I don't think that's what that setting affects).

What's going on and what can I do to fix this? Any ideas?

Thanks!

A:Explorer context menus immediately over-rides Drag & Drop

There is a weird fix that we gave as a workaround for some of our user, right-click drag and hit ESC key, for some it worked with hitting ESC once, for others, 2 times. No idea why this is happening, but it seemed to work.

Hello, In august I bought new Lenovo B50-80 notebook. One month ago, I was checking HWmonitor and I saw that the battery wear level is 11%. PowerShell battery test in Windows 10 says the same ? at one of a charge battery wear. Which I think 11% is to much. I use my notebook as a secondary PC. In two months of usage, I charged max 15 times (and before always depleted to 15%).I tried RMA the battery, but I did not have any success. They say that the battery is OK, if notebook does not automatically shut down.I would like to know if this is normal wear for battery and the answer from RMA guys.If it is not, how can I contact directly Lenovo? Please advise.Best regards.B.

ive configured win7 to go in standby at 1% battery power remaining and to show a warning at 6% but after 6% warning when it goes at 5% it goes in standby (actually this could be normal cause 5% could be the minimum power to be shure windows to react so its ok)

BUT after going in standby it immediately came back from it and the pc is already on, with the battery at 0% and after 2 minutes the pc ends battery and shut off with no more energy without caming back to standby or any other

in win7rc win at 5% was going in standby and than coming back just to go in hibernation, i think cause it calculate that 5% wasnt not enough to keep up standby but now it just go in standby and came back immediately.

somebody can help to keep stanby without caming back immediately or just to let it automatically going in hibernation after stanby if not enough battery is remaining?

So why should it power off if the battery gets disconnected?
Yes the battery is loose and right now I have duct tape holding it in.

What might be the problem? Should I purchase a new battery?

Hi,

I have a dell XPS 13 L322X that I bought in 2013. Recently I bought a new cooling fan because the original one was very noisy. However, after replacing the cooling fan, I noticed that the battery capacity dropped to less than 10%. Therefore, I decided to buy a new battery. The problem is that the capacity/health of the new battery dropped to 75% in just a few days. I contacted the seller explaining him the situation and he sent me a new battery; however, the new one has already lost almost 50% of its capacity/health in just three days. One thing that I noticed was that the (second) new battery has an Energy (design) of 50,2 Wh whereas the original one and the first battery that the seller sent me both have 47 Wh. Another thing is that while I was calibrating the battery, in the first cycles, the battery was charged only up to 90% and that the capacity loss happens after a reboot: in the end of a cycle there is a decrease in the battery capacity after a reboot. After a reboot, the system shows the battery is fully charged, but with a decreased capacity. Every single cycle the capacity drops. The XPS 13 is running Ubuntu 16.04. Would you have any idea why that’s happening?

Many thanks.

Sounds like you may be getting batteries as old as the original one - there's a date code on the battery you may want to check out (it's part of the Dell part number -- you can find out how to decode it online).

I saw my battery level 76% when I started my lappy and I was like cool dont need the charger. But then in the middle of the class it shows a message of 10% battery please plug in and its within 2 hrs. I had my jaw drops. (was just working on my website and that too not continuously). I was worried and touch my lappy to know it was supper hot. NOt exagerating but i couldnt touch and hold my hand between F1 to F5 keys even for a few seconds also the air coming out of the vent was supper hot (again i am in AC classroom with cool atmosphere). Checked on hp support . BIOS upgrade is reccomended so I did update to the lastest from hp.com/drivers. Dint solve the issue the fan is on continuously and it starts throwing hot air the moment I turn on the lappy. I mean like it has just started what is the reason you getting so hot. Severely disappointed, din't buy such an expensive product for such battery back up and severe heating problems.Though I have trust in HP care and support and hope I get the solution.

Hi,  I've been using my TP 460 (Win 10) everyday just to study (Word, EndNote, Chrome... that stuff.) Just one week ago, my battery was performing just fine---it gave me 6 to 7 fantastic hours of fine work. However, now it only gives me 3 hours at its best. I know that batteries drain slowly over time (this is not my first ThinkPad,) but I'm pretty sure that this process doesn't happen in 24 hours! I repeat: just a week ago it gave me 6 straight hours ---seven days later, just 3 all of a sudden. There was one incident that I recall. About a week ago, the battery icon in the taskbar (Win 10 Pro) has gone: nor hidden, nor shaded---just gone. When looking at "Select which icons appear on the taskbar", in Settings, "Power" is on. When looking at "Turn system icons on or off", the "Power" button appears shaded, with no possibility of turning it on or off (even though it appears as "On"). I tried to clear all static from PC. So I removed the AC cord and the battery, and prepared to push the power button several times, you know... I didn't know that my TP had an internal battery. So, to my surprise, the computer started... and kept working for almost two hours. I waited until the power got drained. I put on the battery again, and the AC cord, and continued to work normally. After several restarts, the power icon returned... but my battery now lasts only 3 hours. What is happening? Any ideas, please? Details: -TP 460-Bought ... Read more

I just got my X1 back from the battery recall. Everything done with that was top notch and I couldn't be happier. However since I got it back, the battery will show 32%-35% and then suddenly it will show 6% and the low battery warning will pop up. This has happened twice since I got it back. Before the recall I would have fairly linear battery drain until 10% or so. Charging seems normal. It just seems weird (and probably not related) that this shows up after the recall. I updated the Firmware a month before I sent it in and noticed no weird behavior.  I reached out to Lenovo and the response was kind of vauge and indifferent. I can't tell if it is a battery issue or software related. Normal battery use seems about the same(mainly using Word and Excell, and Vivaldi browser). It is just frustrating when I think I have what would normally 1+ hours of battery when suddenly the warning pops up.  Any suggestions?

Hey everyone, I've been using my Asus G55VW for just over a year now. It's been having a maximum of 3 hours of battery life since I got it. Once, about 4 months ago, the battery life dropped and it shut down completely at 30% battery left with no warning at all. I fixed that issue by creating a battery calibration power option and it worked and I got the battery back to normal.

About a week ago, I turned on the laptop the laptop and noticed I had 1 hour and 30min battery life at 97%. I did fully charge it the night before and pulled out the adapter. So i get only 1.5 hours battery life now and it used to still function like normal and gave me battery low warnings. A few days ago, it stopped giving me warnings all-together and shuts down at 15%.

I tried calibrating but it the method I used before did not work. Is it possible the battery is on it's last legs?

Yes, I suspect the battery is at fault

Battery life is quite poor, if they are kept plugged in and at 100% charging can shorten life - often now you have power management that does not re-charge batteries to 100%

Hi everyone.I bought a beautiful X61 with the bigger battery 2 weeks ago. It's working great. But I encountered a problem.Let me tell you the story.I downloaded Power Manager to learn more about my battery and I was very surprised by what I've seen.Manufacture date: 2008-06-26First used date: 2008-12Cycle count: 20 (now 26)I was very happy. But then, disaster struck.I realised that when my battery reached around 50-60% it would just without any warning drop to 20%, and it would take ages to charge, but when it reached 20-30% it used to jump back to 50-60%. The first time I've encountered this problem was when I was poking around in the BIOS.I thought "Well, easy fix, it's a 9 yr old battery, probably a couple of cells failed" so I ran the Battery Gauge Reset. My full charge capacity dropped from around 72 Wh to 52,42 Wh. So, I looked on the battery. And me being me, a person that doesn't know jack shhh about batteries I thought that because it says "NOM 14,4V 52AH" the battery capacity is "clearly" 52 Wh. (yeeeahhh. 52 AH! Not Wh!) So I carried on using my laptop. My mom borrowed it to play Solitaire, then my dad used it to browse internet. The battery had 60% left. I used it for I KID YOU NOT 5 minutes, just wanted to show my mom a crash test of our minivan, and boom. It started beeping on me, indicating low battery charge. Is this normal with any "gaming laptop"? I have read varying opinions on this. Basically, when gaming, FPS is good, 40-60fps when plugged into AC adapter. As soon as AC adapter is removed and the computer goes to battery power, FPS will drop in half if not more. Plug AC adapter back in, FPS return to normal.
I have set the power profile to "high performance", changed the Nvidia control panel/power management settings to "maximum performance"
I have also turned off "battery boost" within Nvidia Geforce Experience application.
Really just making sure this is a normal condition. I see others with the same issue but no good explanation for the cause. Only thing I can come up with is built fail-safe to protect the battery from too high of a current draw and to protect the video card from voltage fluctuations? The battery is just not capable of the same current draw as the AC adapter is?
Any info helpful!

It's completely normal - you cannot game at any level without being plugged in.  The battery cannot supply the CPU and GPU running at full speed for any length of time.

Hi,

I have a new Dell 7567, i5, 8GB, GTX1050.
Problem is it runs smoothly on battery but as soon as plugged it, I see FPS drop till battery reached about full.
I've checked and re-checked all my windows/software settings. They're same for both modes (Power and Battery).
I'm honestly clueless what's happening.
All my drivers are up to date. Windows is up to date.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Shantanu

Please verify the System Setup(BIOS) version on the system. Type msinfo32 onto [Cortana] search box, and then stroll down to BIOS Version / Date. You should see it.

Hello,

I have Word 2000 on Win XP.

I've added a bunch of macro icons to my formatting tool bar so I can quickly change font color (white, black, blue, red) or highlighting color (white, green, yellow, turquoise). I also wanted the normal font drop down tool with its 8 X 5 color grid, and the normal highlighting tool with its 5 X 3 color grid.

The problem is, my normal font color tool (8 X 5 grid) won't drop down until I edit the toolbar and put the exact same tool up there. Now I'll have two up there, but I can drag the second one away as soon as I put it up there. When I close my customization window, the original font tool becomes active and I can now work with it.

Before I go into customization mode, I can use the default black color on the color font tool. It just won't drop down to expose the color grid.

How can this be fixed? It didn't always work like this.

Thanks.

Check in the toolbar options it should have an option to control the behavior of the drop down menus......or it could be a software glitch which in case you will have to reinstall

Hi hope you can help and my apologies in advance for lack of using the proper tech words for things.

About a week ago I started to have problems with my right click menus, drop down boxes and ability to close browser and browser popups.

The problem is intermittent and seems to happen once I have been online for a while rather than at start up.

When I right click, the menu either doesn’t come up at all, or is empty, ghosted out, with just a vague outline of the frame.

When I encounter a drop down box option, I click on it and no menu drops down.

And as said above, when this is happening, I have to close browser and pop up boxes via the task manager.

When this started I immediately did 2 full virus scans, spybot & adaware scan, plus I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti Malware and did a full scan with one find, details below:

Hey guys,

So I'm making a field which is a drop down list based off another table where I enter the drop down values into. I was just wondering whether or not it's possible to have a drop down menu WITHIN a drop down menu.

Example: The user has to select from multiple departments, and some departments have multiple sub-departments.

Please Enter Department:

Main Department
Main Department
Main Department
- Sub-Department
- Sub-Department
- Sub-Department
Main Department
Main Department
- Sub-Department
- Sub-Department
Main Department
Something to that extent would be perfect. I'm just wondering if this is possible or not.

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Hello, Laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad T470 UltrabookType: 20HD I usually do not have my laptop's battery installed when it is plugged with the AC adapter as I use it mainly at home. But today, while I was out, I inserted it (while the laptop was off) and I received the following error message: "Battery 2: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." I've had this laptop for only a year, and everything is up to date. I only take out and put in the battery when the laptop is turned off. According to the battery percentage, it's stuck at 49% and says it's not charging. 49% Not ChargingBattery 1: 100% and fully chargedBattery 2: 0% and not charging I tried checking the battery in Lenovo Vantage, but it just keeps showing the loading animation, but with no info. Does this really mean the battery needs to be replaced (already)? Could it be a software issue? Thanks.

Over the last couple of days I have found that drop down menus will not drop down.

When I click on a drop down menu the system freezes, this is particularly annoying when trying to do banking on line. The program then wants to report the 'error' to MS.

Its obviously something I have inadvertently done to the settings Any help to rectify this program would be very much appreciated.

Battery 1 : No battery has been detected. Reinstall or recharge the battery to solve the issue.  That's what I'm constantly getting while using the laptop. The message has been appearing since two weeks or so and I don't know what to do. Battery 1 is not detected by the laptop when I insert the battery number 2:  But if I remove battery number 2, battery number 1 works properly.  I tried to hard reset the battery, uninstall the battery drivers and restart the laptop, last but not least update all the updatable, but nothing has solved the issue.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hey all. So I've been having this problem for a few months now, and I can't seem to figure out what exactly is causing my frame drops. I attached two files that are from MSI Afterburner, recording my gpu, cpu, framerate, etc.

I speculate that the frame drops are caused by a faulty power supply, because when the power usage drops from 65% to 55%, the GPU usage will drop along with it from near 100% to 0-15%, and other things drop along with it (as seen in the attached files).

I'm really clueless, and help would be appreciated.

Hi guys. I have a T470 and after the latest Windows update I encountered a battery naming issue. Before the update batteries had proper order and were named accordingly: battery 1, battery 2, no surprises here. But after the update I noticed the order has changed to battery 0, battery 1 (attached pic below) Yeah yeah, I understand arrays start at zero but what is that? I was just wondering is it just me or you guys have the same situation going on with your batteries? Is there a way to change the order back to "normal"? .

Hello everyone! Not sure if this is an issue but it's surely annoying to know, that battery N1 drains at 5% and the other stays at 100%. Is it possible for a mixed discharge between both batteries ?After all the LIFE of the first battery (while using battery only power) is shortened a lot! Is there any option in LENOVO VANTIGE that I am no aware of ?I looked everywhere and i can't find anything.. Bios latest update 1.30 Thank you very much!

A:T470s BATTERY 1 drains to 5%, BATTERY 2 stays at 100% (BATTERY PRIORITY)

Sorry  but see below post.  Basically you cant set discharge order.  The laptop checks battery wear and bases discharge order on that.  Many people including myself have asked for a BIOS switch or at least an option on discharge order but nothing has happened so far and I dont think its going to happen either.  I do not speak for Lenovo..

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.
