I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have some previously owned movies that I want to burn onto some cds. Not sure if I did this right so far but I used a ripping program that put them into MPEG and I save them on my hard drive. I tried to use Nero 5 to burn them onto a CD but it isn't working. The problem I am having is that the movie is to big for just 1 cd. Does anyone know how I can burn this movie onto 2 CD's using Nero?? I don't have a dvd burner which is why they are going on a cd, I have a Cd-rw and use Windows XP if that matters. I did try using Nero 6 but I had so many problems with it and kept getting errors. Can anyone help?

Purchased a new 2T hard drive and hoping to put my ever expanding, out of control DVD movies on the external hard drive. Need some ideas/help with the following:
I have about 500+ DVD movies in the DVD format of VIDEO_TS, and AUDIO_TS folders, also a goodly assortment of AVI type file format video. What I would like to do, is move the DVD's to the external hard drive and hopefully come up with a way to play on the Television directly from the external hard drive. It looks like an organizational nightmare. Would I generate folders Alphabetic ( Folder A, B, C, etc. ) and then move each movie DVD into the correct folder, etc.?  Is there a better way? How would I print a searchable data file of the contents? My Samsung TV has an external USB port, is there some program, etc. to do all of this. Just have so much space tied up with the DVD's ....time to shrink all of this down.
Welcoming some thoughts, direction, etc. before I begin the task.

A:~~Need some help putting DVD movies on Hard drive~~

What I would like to do, is move the DVD's to the external hard drive and hopefully come up with a way to play on the Television directly from the external hard drive. Not likely you would be able to play your videos directly from an external drive hooked up to the TV via USB. Check your TV owners manual for info. You'll most likely require another device, such as this rather expensive unit: https://www.amazon.com/WD-TV-Media-Player-WDBYMN0000NBK-HESN/dp/B00JXFM75Y  or, like me, you could have a dedicated computer [HTPC] connected to your TV via a computer's display port or HDMI cable with your external drive connected to the computer via USB. Your videos would be viewable via Windows Media Player Classic [my preferred video player] or VLC by simply dragging/dropping the Video TS folder onto the player. I always rename the TS folders first to the name of the video. Drop them all into a single folder & you'll have a continuous alphabetical listing, easily scrolled through [I wouldn't bother myself with doing folders A B C etc, it'll just slow you down]. Set the folder view to Details. Easier than trying to locate a DVD off your shelves. The Audio TS folders BTW aren't needed [they're always empty] & can be tossed.  I have an inexpensive wireless mouse/keyboard combo connected to the computer. I've used an old Win7 laptop in the past but now am using a dedicated low profile HP 8300 computer, I bought used for $125 running Win10. Just be sure the compu... Read more

A computer I'm working on had a bad MB, which I have replaced. The hard drive is good. The people want me to see if I can get all their photos and movies off on blank media for them in case their hard drive ever crashes. How is the best way to do that?

A:Solved: getting home movies off hard drive to dvd

How much media is there? In any case its a good idea to have a portable external drive that you back up all the data to and also to DVD as a secondary backup that is easy to mail or take off site (though an external drive is almost as easy to transport).
Where DVD backup is concerned you can do it manually using any free DVD burning program (IMGBurn, CDBurnerXP, etc.) providing your own data cutoff points when the DVD is full. I purchased a DVD transformer from ClickFree some time ago and that makes backup to DVD a snap. It will do all your data or you can specify only certain directories and then it will only prompt you to label and exchange DVDs when one is finished, until the whole job is finished. Very simple and thorough, found one for $18 at buy.com.

Hello, i had dozens of movies in my second HD for almost a year now and im not sure if its just me and im paranoid or what but it seems that they lost a bit of their quality and are slightly more pixelated and blurry ever so sightly. I've defragged the HD several times over the time of using it with all my data and movies and does defragging it deteriorate the quality over time?

A:Movies on hard drive lose quality over time?

hi dardra

movies stored on an HD will not deteriorate over time, through storage or moving. Because they are stored digitally, you can move and copy them without losing any quality.

If they are looking more pixelated or blurry, you should check your media player settings.

I realize this may not be possible at all, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I just got a 1TB Seagate "GoFlex" External Hard Drive, because I have a lot of video files and I was running out of space on my MacBook. I thought it'd be great to play these shows on my Home Theatre system straight from the external drive - it's a USB drive, and the DVD player has a USB port. My Home Theatre is Samsung, I'm not sure of much more than that but I can probably find out if I need, and the files I want to play are in iTunes format, or .m4v, if that makes a difference.

I've done some looking, and it seems like I may have to reformat the external to FAT32, but there also seems to be some concern about whether that's even possible for large drive sizes. So is this even an option, or am I stuck with hooking up my external to my computer to my HDMI and having no laptop when I want to watch anything?

Thanks. =)

A:DVD Drive won't play movies!!!

Sounds like the dvd decoder got messed up somehow.

I would look for a virus or any other foreign data in your computer first to see if that is the culprit. If that's not the case, then I would re-install the drive and make sure that you have the latest drivers for it installed as well.

Also, check the region you have it set up for. On some drives you can only change them so many times so be careful and monitor what you have it set up for and how many times you've changed it. I've heard of people basically ruining drives because of this.

Hope that helps some, kiregar

The DVD drive I have is an LG GSA-H22L.
It has a DVD read of 16x. The problem I'm having is that when I use it to watch movies the playback is kind of jerky or rough. The sound and video skips, and at some points it's all just moves in slow motion. I'm not sure why.
With my old DVD-ROM (a much older drive in a much older computer) the DVD playback was perfectly smooth. So I'm kind of confused as to why, when I'm using a newer drive in a better computer, with newer software (the PowerDVD 6.0 that came bundled with the drive) the playback is worse.

If anyone knows anything that could help, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i have just bought an LG N2B1 with an integrated blu-ray writer. I wanted to use the blu ray drive to play blu-ray films on computers connected to the NAS. I can see the blu-ray drive as a network disc drive, and open the folders on the blu-ray film to see the contents fine. But when i come to play it power dvd 8 says not compatible with format. I have looked at LG's support page and they say the drive can be used to play video from the drive on the network, but not encryted video like a movie disc. I was wondering if there would be a way for me to play encryted video blu-rays (ie shop films) from the network blu-ray drive on all my computers. I only want to use the drive to play Blu-ray's on all my computers from the one drive. I think the computer software is struggling to play the file from the network drive, because i am having to search for the folder by going through computer explorer, through the NAS shortcut and its to much for the software to handle. Would it work if i mapped the NAS Blu-ray drive on the computer, so it shows as a disk drive for that computer, and if so how would i do this.

Hello. Hopefully someone can help me with this strange problem. I've googled this and found virtually nothing. So, here it is:

I have a bunch of movies in MP4 format saved to an external hard drive connected to my pc. I have no trouble playing those movies through my computer, from said xhd. I also sometimes transfer them to an 8gb flash drive and still they play perfectly fine. Recently, my dad bought a 512gb kingston flash drive and wanted to "borrow" some of my movies. I transferred 4 movies, no problems at all. They all played. Then, I added another, but this 1 wouldn't play. First, it gave an error, "cannot render file". Then, when I opened the folder again, the movie file was gone completely. *scratching head*

Sooo, we assumed the flash drive was at fault, since he bought it from china, and he bought a toshiba 64 gb flash drive instead. Same exact problem. 1st 4 movies, fine, but on the 5th movie, it's a no go.

The movies are all MP4's and only 1-2 gb's each, so plenty of room on the drives. And again, they play fine everywhere, except when I put 5 of them on a flash drive. I actually have about 100 on my xhd, so I have no idea what's going on.

So far, I've deleted them and started over with different movies and also reformatted the 512 gb drive to NTFS format and still nothing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ok, I have a Toshiba DvD-rom SD-C2502 in my laptop and is skipping all the dvds I play, the skipping is ramdomly and sometimes it skips with audio. I load the disk and after 3 to 5 minutes it starts skipping all the time, and this is on every single movie I try to play. DMA is enabled so I guess that is not it. Is it a problem w/ the soundcard or the videocard configuration (I have an Ati radeon 7500)? I tried cleaning the lens and it didn't worked, I also loaded the movies to different programs like WMP, and WinDVD, but that didn't worked either. Can someone help me with this, I am extremely desperate, please help!

A:Help with laptop DVD-drive, is skipping all the movies!

Has this always done this or is this something that has just recently started? Do you have DMA enabled on this drive? Check the properties of the drive in the device manager to find out. If it is not enabled, enable it. If it is enabled you just might have a bad drive. I know that Toshiba does not require any kind of special driver for windoze.

I have an Acer CB3-531-C4A5 Chromebook and would like to be able to watch movies. I see that there is an integrated Media player with Google Chrome OS and I did try to watch a movie on Amazon.com. That worked fine. My question is can I purchase an external CD/DVD drive that will work with the Chromebook so that I can watch movies from DVDs? I presume that I cannot as the external drive would require software for the interface and being there is no operating system on the Chromebook I would guess that I can not use an external CD/DVD drive. Is this correct?

According to Google's support site, USB CDROM and DVDROM (read-only) devices are compatible with Chromebooks. You will need to download a player from the Google store to play DVD's though.

For the former, you probably downloaded a dodgy copy. It's the risk you take I suppose.

To answer the latter, yes you can play movies from CD-R. Just don't expect miracles; I say Scary Movie 2 in this way. It spanned two disks, ran at about 5 fps and the quality was just atrocious. It's almost as bad when it comes to DVD-R's, as they only store something like 5 gig, whereas the proper movie DVD-ROM's store significantly more.

Thanks for any help.

I just installed a new DVD burner on my machine (because the old one stopped working).

I didn't have a SATA port, so I bought a PCI RAID Controller and stuck the thing in that way.

Now it will burn CDs and generally view and open data DVDs.

However, it refuses to burn DVD RWs (DVD RWs with data already on them, no empty DVDs at the house).

Also, despite the availability of three DVD decoders (one is Windows Media 10 friendly, the other two are flavors of Roxio) Windows Media Player 11 won't show DVDs.

Media Player Classic just crashes with DVDs.

I reinstalled Roxio , I reinstalled K-Lite Codec Pack , I reinstalled iTunes .

I have no idea what the problem is. I thought it might be hardware, thus the replacement drive, but it seems like the software is bugging out somewhere. This all started a couple years ago when I decided to write over Windows XP Home for HP with a nice copy of Windows XP Professional. If you can't help me, I hope that installing Windows 7 in October will make the pain go away.

I grew up with Macs so speak slowly.

Hi all,
I am attempting to install Win7 in an Inspiron 1545 with a new SATA hard drive that was purchased. When i insert the drive, I get "Internal Hard Disk Drive Not Found." I have verified the drive is not showing in the BIOS, I've already attempted to reseat the drive several times. In addition, I've attempted to load the chipset drivers, SATA drivers, etc from Dells website, the drive still does not show in the OS install when booting to DVD or in bios.
I dont believe it to be an issue with the new drive, as I plugged the new drive into another model Dell laptop and it recognizes the drive fine in BIOS, also I can still boot to the previous hard drive in this laptop without issue when i plug it back in.
Is there a specific driver, etc that I need to use for the drive to be recognized or other thoughts people have?

This is strange - either the new hard drive has a rare compatibility issue with your onboard controller (I use a 500Gbyte in my 1545 without probs)) or it is a mechanical problem.I would take a close look at the physical dimensions and compare your original hdd with the new one.Watch the video (even though it's about a 1525 (similar to an 1545) and an SSD hdd) -  go to 2:20

I have this not a month old Blu ray drive LG [WH16NS40]
The drive works perfectly reading CDs and DVDs software or data, but once I play a DVD movie
After ejecting the DVD, the drive would stop reading anything at all beside CDs.
I can hear the disc spinning for few seconds then it stop with "no disc inserted" message.

I disconnected the power cable of the drive, reconnected, it start reading everything back.
but again once I play/eject a movie, it would stop reading anything after.
I made it burn few DVDs, it was burning them fine, at full speed.

So I'm not sure, is it possible to be defective?

I have another Samsung DVD writer installed on same system, running perfectly.
playing movies over and over.

What I have tried:
Changing sata/power cable and slots on MB.
Updating/downgrading firmware.
Reinstalled hardware.
Deleting lower and upper filter from registry.

I'm thinking of getting new same drive, but can't tell if this factory bug or just my unit?
Haven't got any BD discs yet to test.

Hi, my DVD drive on my laptop plays up while watching movies. During the first half of watching a movie, it runs perfectly fine. But when the movie is within say ten or even maybe 20minutes sometimes towards coming to the end, it starts making some kind of clicking noise and it stops reading the disc. Even after pressing stop, the DVD drive carries on making that noise. Until I press the eject button it finally stops. Is there anyway I can fix this? Or would I have to get a new DVD drive?

A:My DVD drive stops working while watching movies

It might be cheaper to just order a new optical drive to be honest, it sounds like its probably hardware related by the noise.

Sorry to start a new thread but my old one will not come up on my computer. I have HP Media and I am running XP. My drive will not read the movies and every disc I put in there reads blank. If I right click on the drive, it shows that there is nothing on the disc twhen in fact there is. I did a restore to an earlier date before the problem as recommended and that did not fix the problem. Also, when I push the button to open the drive door, it opens and closes and doesn't stay open as it should. Everything was fine one day and then the next day for no reason, the drive is malfunctioning. I hope it is something simple and will not require a new drive ugh! Thanks...Liz

My two year old laptop is beginning to show its age, so I'm getting the whole thing reformatted. So I need to back everything up...

Problem - whenever I put a blank dvd in, nothing happens. The disc is spinning, but when I try to open it up in Explorer, Explorer crashes. The Prompting window never comes up either. When I take the disc out, it is quite hot, and Explorer returns to normal. I've tried both DVD-R and DVD-RW - same results.

I put a normal dvd movie in and it works absolutely fine.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Or am I gonna have to use CD's (I've run out) or my flash drive (only 512mb)?

A:Solved: DVD Drive reads movies but not blanks

Fixed it!

I tried formatting the dvd (on another computer) and the formatted disc appears to work fine!

(PS Sorry for the pointless thread)

I bought a Liteon DVD-CD burner Combo drive a month ago. It played DVD movies just fine until 2 days ago. Troubleshooter says it's fine, so I thought it was a software error and reinstalled Power DVD 5. It stilll won't work. All it does is after I put the disc in, the HDD loads for a minute and the system reboots. I have no idea what to do now. It makes me sick to think I may have to shell out another $44 for a new one. puke: Now it won't even load CD-ROM games unless they're already installed. I updated the firmware but it still won't work. I may just have to vent my frustration out on it. :knock:

I have an Acer Aspire 6920 running Vista home premiumx64 with a Slim Type DVD DS8A1P ATA drive. Recently this drive stopped reading all data discs, game dvds and some install cds. It will however read music cds with no problem. When I put any data disc in it just keeps attempting to run in short bursts for a couple of minutes then completely stops. Device mgr. says it is working properly. If I attempt to open the drive in "computer" it pops the tray open and says to insert a disc. No error messages at anytime. I have tried numerous things people have suggested such as deleting the values in the registry, removing the drive in device mgr. and restarting as well as updating the driver as some have suggested.
