Solved: GTX580 fan speed control?

Q: Solved: GTX580 fan speed control?

Hi all,
I just installed my new GTX580 and would like to know how to set fan profiles for general internet browsing and gaming as they are constantly at 100% and noisy, I don't mind while gaming because I wear my headset but my missus is stressing me out when she watches TV in the same room. Basically, I would like to lower the fan speeds when not gaming but not sure how to do this. I have the GPU Tweak Utility installed and can manually slide the fan percentage bars but one reverts back to 100% when I click APPLY. I am then asked to BURN but not sure what this means.
I also have MSI Afterburner but the option to move the fan slider is greyed out.

Look forward to any replies.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just rebuilt an old PC with various new parts. I thought the processor fan speed would be controlled by the new mobo - but it goes full speed all the time.
The mobo is a Foxconn RC4107MA Intell 775. with a celeron 3.06 processor.
I have checked the bios settings and there is an option for 'Smart Fan Control' which is enabled. Anyone any ideas why the fan speed is not being controlled. Is there something missing??

Firstly this may be a stupid question for 90% of the people here, but I honestly don't know,so please don't judge me on this.

Now i would like to sli 2 nvidia gtx 580's , they will both be stock cards and same make and so on, my question is how do you sli them, but more precisely, can i put them in different slots in the motherboard so there is a gap between them? ie: 1st card in 1st pci second in 3rd pci so they are not touching each other.

Secondly will my motherboard be able to do that 1st and second pci thing i just mentioned, and how many slots does your case need for it?

And lastly will their be allot more heat when doing sli,and will i need allot of power for them?

ps: my new ax1200 psu from corsair arrives tomorrow.

A:I Want to SLI GTX580, need help on how to.

You may find this site worth a look:

The motherboard must have two PCI-E X16 slots, spaced widely enough to take the two GTX580s. You'll also need an SLI bridge that's the right length.

A 1200W power supply is, er, adequate. There's a listing there of SLI certified PSUs at the same web site. One Corsair 1200W model is certified for three 580s.

If you max out the 580 cards, they'll each draw roughly 300W each. The fan noise from the cards will be fairly loud at that, if they're like my GTX480.

If you wish to exercise the cards, I suggest Furmark:

FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net

It's difficult to find anything that brutalizes graphics cards more than Furmark.

I have just made this switch and realizing there isn't much solid information one can grab on google concerning this particular switch.

...yes there is a big difference.
Especially in the way of anti-aliasing where as on the 5850 AA means a massive hit to frame rate, with the gtx580 it doesn't seem to phase it at all.

I did a quick run through several games the largest and most immediately noticeable difference was in batman arkham city and SW:TOR.
The 5850 really struggled to get BAC going with the settings cranked up.
I got slow downs and strange behavior when using the ati card, with the nvidia card I've cranked everything as high as it can go and it just keeps going.

Also bear in mind I had my 5850 overclocked and I'm running the gtx580 at stock.

There is a general added crispness and the panning jitter I always got to some extent with the 5850 is also gone.
Mind you I'm speaking about most of these things on a level only a enthusiast would probably even notice. Except BAC where the difference was just mind blowing.

A:ati 5850 vs. GTX580

Well the 5850 is basically 2 generations old now, where as the 580 is the current generation.
As well as the fact that the GTX580 is currently the fastest single GPU on the market, only the dual core 590 and ati 6990 beat it.

Well, look at my system specs please and tell me if there is any need for a SLI 580 replacement. I've seen the benchmarks and in most games it's not much more than 15-20 fps more than the 480's which allready pull all my games (70) completely smooth. I'm an enthusiast amd usually need my hardware to be as new as possible. But is there really any reason to waste that much money for such a "little" gain in performance?

A:Any reason to get GTX580 yet?

if you are doing sli with two 480's i would see no reason to get the new cards more or less a waste of money unless you plan on taking back both cards and getting one gtx 580 card but you are as good as it gets right now no need to spend more money

Hello every one...

I have never done such configuration before but I know that it is possible to run two different GPUs: one for graphics and the other one is for PhysX. I got 690 and I still have my 580, so is it worth a try to see if performance in gaming will go higher(there are not so many games that support PhysX as far as I know)?

the other thing is that I have no clue how to install it correctly and what drivers do I need... is there going to be any conflict between the two different drivers? Also I have 850W PSU

First off Your Psu can't handle both of those cards at the same time I might be wrong but a GTX690 is a dual gpu solution Gtx 580 takes alot of power to run and in SLI about the equivilent of the GTX690

PhysX can be used with the GTX580 but you need to up the Power supply or you will run into a slew of issues

now there should be others on here to tell you exactly how it should be set up i will do my best to find further information for you

I'm getting System Interrupts consistently when my GTX580 has to render 3d video while gaming. I traced the offending drivers with Latency Monitor and they are: nvlddmkm.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, usbport.sys, ataport.sys, hal.dll. There may be one or two others but those are the main culprits.

This occurs on a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I've updated all drivers for every hardware component and peripheral. Updated the Bios/chipsets. I've also tried every supposed "fix" I could find online. Nothing works.

I can get through 1 or 2 matches in Battlefield 3 with no hiccups, then at the start of the next match, system interrupts maxes one of my cores and I get severe framerate drops and audio stuttering. I can also play through one level of Crysis 2 on maxed settings, however, when the next level loads, system interrupts make the game unplayable. The GTX580 I have works GREAT, when it's working, but the fact that it works fine until a new map is loaded has me stumped.

The ONLY ways to fix the issue is to reboot or go into Device Manager and Disable the Gtx 580. This is NOT a solution. It only confirms that the card is the issue. I tried moving the card to another slot, thinking that it was a possible IRQ conflict, this did not solve the problem. I have the latest Nvidia drivers. Reverting to older drivers does not rectify the issue either.

I'm at my wits end here, somebody help! Do I need to RMA the card or is this a software/driver issue?

The card... Read more

So, my GT230 is getting to become unbearable in that the performance is miserable for almost every single game. I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card, which in the past is a process which never goes well. I've been looking at the NVidia GeForce 500 series, ending up fixating on the 580, which has the right PCI-e specifications for my motherboard (I really don't want to have to change anything more than the PSU and graphics card), which is PCI-e x16 2.0.
The motherboard specifications are here. If I move the TV tuner card up to the top PCI-e x1 slot, there is enough space for the GTX 580, which takes up the space of two PCI faceplates.
I've always been nervous about GPUs as powerful ones always seem to have crazy unspecified cables that don't connect to anything. Scan says the 580 needs "One 6-pin PCI Express power connector or two available hard disk power connectors and one 8-pin PCI Express power connector or two available 6-pin PCI Express power connectors". As I'll be having to buy a new PSU for the card...

(my current one is 500W and is the wrong size for my case, any cheapish and quiet PSU recommendations for a 14cm deep, 8.5CM tall and 15CM across 600W+ PSU would be great)

... I'm assuming some of the connectors will be these 6 pin and 8 pin things? I'm hoping that none of the connectors it requires are motherboard connectors, as if so I'm probably screwed. So, will a PSU come with the 8-pin/2x HDD and 8-pin/2x6-pin power connectors?

Please don't try and... Read more

A:System requirements for NVidia GTX580?

The auxiliary power connectors required for the 580 are PCI-E (PCI-Express) ones. As far as I know, they are only used for graphics cards. You need one 6 pin and one 8 pin (usually 6+2, which can be used as either 6 or 8).

If you're getting a new PSU, make sure that it has the PCI-E connectors. It's possible to use adapters to go from a couple of Molex connectors (the sort used on IDE hard drives) to a single 6 pin, but that is best avoided.

If you can get a GTX680, I suggest that you consider that. It's a PCI-E 3.0 card, but It's backwards compatible with the older PCI-E standards. (There are relatively few PCI-E 3 systems out there; they've been in the market only since earlier this year.) The 680 is newer, costs about the same as the 580, has generally better performance, and consumes significantly less power. (That's important to me less for "green" considerations than for having less of a thermal load in the PC's case.)

Does anyone know how i can monitor/control fan speeds?
i have tried sppedfan, but it doesn't seem to do anything but monitor my CPU temp. I can set a desired temp for my CPU, but that doesn't the actual temp or the fan speed. When i look into the tab that has fans in it, theres nothing there. I have also tried nTune, as i have an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS video adapter.

Hello all,i recently bought a new PSU and so far it seems to do the job quite well, however when i run certain more demanding games like The Witcher 3 and the PSU itself goes into high load, the fan makes quite a lot of noise.

Most reviews i saw online about the PSU seem to say it's not loud at all,and granted it's not loud while in idle. The question is, is it possible to somewhow lower the PSU fan speed ? The sound it makes is similar to a cheap office fan, however as i said, while in idle it's dead silent.

A:PSU Fan Speed control ?

It should not make the excessive noise you describe
Indeed even with the fan running it should be very quiet as it is a fluid type fan bearing, far quieter than a simple sleeve bearing as found on cheaper PSU`s or indeed quieter than a standard ball bearing

Are you sure you have it mounted correctly

I will check the base requirements of your system on the info I have and post back. If you have bought the minimum PSU wattage then you should not have done so
For instance minimum system requirements 600 watt always buy next up eg 700/750 watt

Although the PSU meets the based requirements of the system 125watt CPU and 150 watt graphics, the recommended psu for the card being 500 watt that of course does not take account of other components - hard drives etc OR indeed OC

See this
Seasonic recommend it for office use and causal gaming
use lower left pane for selecting heavy gaming

Select your video card, Windows 64 and language wanted. Download the driver and install.

The driver once installed should select the proper screeen resolution needed.

Once installed if resolution is still not proper right click open area of desktop and click "Nvidia Control Panel" in the list.

New window willl look like Snip below. Select Display> Change resolution in left column.
Then select resolution needed that is circled in yellow.
Don't worry with the Hz. It will probably show 60Hz which is standard for 99.9% of all monitors.

I am getting a new PC equipped with a GTX580 card soon. The card has both DVI and mini-HDMI outputs. What I want to do is to use the DVI output for my LCD screen on my desktop PC, and the HDMI output to display stuff on my HDTV in the living room. If I connect the card to both my TV (HDMI) and LCD screen (DVI), how do I switch between the two of them? Or will the card constantly stream both to my TV and LCD screen?

Depends how you want to work it.

You can choose to switch between displays in the nvidia control panel or clone them, or even have an extended desktop so you can have your regular stuff on one screen while watching something else on the other.

Hello, I bought a Geforce 580 some time ago and I started having problems with it right away. First time i ran 3dmark06 my score was alot worse than om my 460. I started looking around and found out through GPU-Z that the card wasn't running at full speed. Finally I found Zotac Firestorm(GPU overclocking program), installed it and in the program I simply pressed "apply" on the default values. After that, the card worked fine. Everytime I booted the computer, I had to start Firestorm and press apply, otherwise the card will run at half speed.

Intel i7 960 3.2Ghz

ASUS Rampage III Gene
Geforce GTX 580
PSU is a Corsair TX 650W

I have been using Firestorm without a problem until now, when I bought The Witcher 2. Suddenly, in-game, the fps just drops alot. I save, exit the game, press apply on firestorm and then the fps is back on normal. So..the card simply drops to half-speed in-game.

I have looked around everywhere for "power-saving" features in windows, updated bios..you name it.

Does anyone know what this is? The PSU has two 6+2 pins..Dont know if it is required to have an 8pin and 6pin or if 6+2 is okay for the 8pin slot?

Might check out some of these links.
I think that power throttling during high demand, when you actually
need the speed is a dumb idea on their part.
But that.apparently,is what that card does.

Hey, I just bought a Zotac Geforce GTX 580 and I am having some issues with it. Installation went fine and everything, but when I started 3D Mark Vantage, the score was very bad. It was about half of what it should be (12200 points).

I started looking around the installation disc and found a overclocking application called Zotac FireStorm on the CD, which I installed. I started the program and the default values where set, so I just clicked apply and started 3D Mark again. This time I got 27300 points, which is great!

To the problem: Every time I start the computer, I have to enter FireStorm and click apply for the card to run at max power. If I dont, its down to half again. Does anyone know what the issue is? Do I always have to start the program for my card to work fully?

Is your laptop in a well ventilated place? Have you considered getting a cooling mat? Is the fan nice and clean? That last one is very important, my laptop was reaching 89 celsius before I removed the crap from the fan, now it reaches 58

Bought used M58-7360. Fan never speeds up. Stays around 25% I'd guess. I was transcoding video in plex and cpu usage was at 100% and cpu temp was at 170 degrees F and rising. I pulled a wire attached to the "thermal" pin on the front of the mobo to get fan to speed up and cooled the cpu down. After researching, apparently the only way to control the fan speed is the "quiet technology" setting under the ME selection in the Intel AMT software that you access by pressing ctrl+p at boot. I got to the area where it should be listed and it isn't there. It isn't in the normal bios. I installed speedfan program but it doesn't "see" the fan. I've also tried resetting cmos. Please help!

Not sure what's going on with your fans are you sure they are supposed to run at 100% ? - are the correct options enabled in the Bios - worth checking the manual or get it from your mobo's website - also see if they have an updated Bios available.

CPUID has oc'ing functions - it warns you it's at your own risk, of course - they also do HWMonitor which should help you see what's going on with your fans and temps.

Hope this does the trick

A:Fans speed control

Boohoo, no specs. In any case, a BIOS update may take care of it. I had a tornado going on my last board but a quick check and a BIOS update fixed it. There's usually fan control in the BIOS as well. Some motherboard manufacturers provide utilities that will allow fan and temp changes and/or alarm settings. System specs would go a long way in helping to provide specifics.

First time posting here so hoping I do not mess up...

Anyway, my question is about controlling the speed of a mouse that is used on a system that has no settings panel for it. To expand that, I have a Security DVR setup that has mouse support but no keyboard support and all control has to be done with the mouse. Unfortunately, the mouse is way to fast for me and with the embedded firmware, no way to slow it.

Curious if they make a mouse that has a built in physical adjustment for the speed, or some kind of inline control to put between the mouse and USB port that could do this.

Here's the device webpage.. Sadly this router don't have a QoS.. If you want more picture of the device interface I would gladly provide them.. So far I only see these 2 pictures as ones that should enable me to configure my network.

A:How to control the speed of my internet

A router with QoS may or may not really help. Probably more helpful would be to upgrade (if any of these are available) to higher DSL bandwidth or cable or fiber.

I don't think its possible, although I have no experience in overclocking, one of the comments on that tutorial is:

SpeedFan was made with desktops in mind. Notebooks control the fans differently compared to desktops. It will not work.

Is your laptop in a well ventilated place? Have you considered getting a cooling mat? Is the fan nice and clean? That last one is very important, my laptop was reaching 89 celsius before I removed the crap from the fan, now it reaches 58

is that possible to control the upload speed (the bandwidth,k/s) through XP? if not, does anybody know where can I find a free software to do so?

A:control upload speed

Can you explain a bit more, what you want to accomplish?

Do you want to limit the speed to a lower level than the maximum achievable by your connection? What type of connection do you have?

There is nothing easily accomplished within XP, but if your exact needs are known, there are likely some utilities available

Hello, what software can I use to manually control the fan speed on my gtx 295 video card? I think I am having heat issues.

A:software to control fan speed gtx 295

Either of these,

MSI Afterburner

EVGA | EVGA Precision | EVGA Precision

should work. Or you can try RivaTuner,

RivaTuner v2.24c download from Guru3D.com

which the other two are based on. RT may not work as it hasn't been updated in a while, and may have problems it you are using an unsupported driver.

I wish to be able to control the speed/rate in which Internet explorer accesses/downloads sites.

I want to able to slow Intrenet Explorer yet keep Mozila Firefox at its normal rate.

So i don't wish to slow all applications and their access to the internet, just Internet Explorer.

What i am trying to do is to limit the usage that IE uses, e.g. max of 5MB/hour, but i don't wont it to reach the limit then just stop working, I want it to be constant so that it can keep working yet not exseed a limit.

Is this possible?

If so how can this be done?

Thank you to all who contribute to this question i appreciate it!

I play fair amount of video games a day, and add to that, I live in a hot enviorment.put simply: can I willingly increase or decrease the fan speed in order to accomodate for the high temperature?one key optimizer, a program that came included with the Lenovo laptop, is capable of increasing the fan speed, albeit momentarily for dust cleaning.I already checked the BIOS options, there was no fan control option there of any form, unfortunately. has anyone found any way to increase fan speed?do note, programs like speedfan, dont detect the fan either I would be glad to hear from you. thank you for your time

HP Omen 17 so noisy - how to control fan speed? My new HP omen 17 w010ng drives me crazy - it is so noisy. Even if the Geforce is switched off, the left fan starts to switch on very easily, running a Youtube video is enough. I have read about HP Control software allowing to control fan speed - it was very difficult to install and I only found out that the ventilator settings are already on normal. I switched the ventilators off in Bios, still not much change. Then i ensured in the graphic driver that Geforce is only used for Lightroom and Photoshop, this helped a bit, but still I see that ventilators speed up far earlier then required. I have tried HWinFO64, but no fan speed controls are possible. The freeware Speedfan is the same, I see the fan speed but cannot control it.  I found the freeware Notebook FanControl, but there is no configuration file for Omen 17 available. Did anybody out there solve the problem? How can I control and reduce the fan speed?

Hi there, I have a ZXDSL 531B router from ZTE. I'm a network newbie here. Now here's the setup for the DSL router with 4 LAN ports, which all are connected to different PCs. And this happens to be the ONLY source of internet to all of us. Here's my needs, I want to control EACH LAN port speed, as it can be shared equally & not one stealing most / all bandwidth & rest left begging . Every computer uses Windows 7. Please help!

A:A Tool That Can Control Fan Speed On Motherboard Help Pls..

Hmm, it all really depends on the mother board, and I'm thinking as it's an hp, you can't. However case fans spin at max rpm by default, with most folks slowing them down with the use of inline resistors.

You can try speedfan, it may do something.
Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer
