Windows Activation Tool Issue

Q: Windows Activation Tool Issue

Hello I've visited here countless times but until recently, didn't have any problems I couldn't solve. Now I have an abundance of them

Windows Activation Technology - Starting there since it is most annoying. Several times a day, at random, I see that funky blue and orange star in the status bar and I know the page is waiting for me. I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64 bit and from what I've heard, have no plans to check out Win10 anytime soon. But I can't make that activation tool notice stop. If anyone here knows what can be done, I would very much appreciate the assistance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought a netbook about three weeks ago.

I forgot to activate the windows 7 Starter on it before installing my Windows Home Premium upgrade 64 Bit.

I now cannot activate windows.

If i attempt to activate using the Windows 7 code from the bottom of the netbook it says it is for a different version of Windows.

If i attempt to use the upgrade Windows Key it tells me that it is an upgrade version and so therefore i cannot activate using it.

I tried doing a system restore to the ealiest date avaiable hoping that would be before i upgraded windows but it was after that date.

Anybody got any ideas?

There should be a DVD or an F key to return to factory settings. (the original OS). Since your computer is new, look it up in your manual.
There is a possiblity, however, that it will not work due to the new install; but try and get back to us.

Hey guy's, been a fair age.

I'm here for some advice with a Windows XP Activation, Recently my very old 160Gb HDD is on it's last legs, and has simply seen better days.

So I thought I would treat myself and purchased a 1TB HDD, Now I'm looking to install Windows XP onto my new hard drive, thus giving more space to manage college work, downloads, games that sort of thing.
I got windows installed onto the hard drive no problem, but came to a stop when it asked me to activate windows, I was expecting this of course.

This is where I need you, If I were to format my existing HDD (160Gb) would this enable me to use my old product key? I took a shot in the dark by using a unique confirmation ID code by phoning Microsoft, entered the code by phone. And was obviously rejected saying it's currently in use.

What I am really asking, Is is there some sort of way to contact MS to let them know windows has been deactivated. And looking to install on my other hard drive? I really don't want to go forking out money that I can't really afford on another key. I have tried phoning them, But it's some kind of automated voice and you can't talk to an advisor :(

If not, what are the main flaws of not activating it? And should I be worried since it will no longer get updated after 2014?

Thanks in advance.

Ollie

I recently installed a free version of anti-virus called: AVG anti-virus,
on a friends lab top ( Toshiba Tecra PII 400 mhz, 256 ram, XP Pro 30 HD).
Now when I start the lab top I a get a message that reads the following:

Windows product activation"
A problems is preventing windows from acurately checking the license for this computer. Error code OX8007007E.

I can see the windows desktop in the background but cant go any further.
My options are hit "ok" or the little black "X" to close the window, either one logs me out and takes me back to the administrator sign on window. Where I hit ok and the I see the same message as above!
Also, I did re-install Windows XP pro on this machine along with a new 30 gb hard drive.

My hard drive failed completely and was unrecoverable. I replaced the HD and reinstalled Windows 8.1 and it activated correctly. Windows prompted me to upgrade to Windows 10 which I tried and after it installed it refused to activate saying it doesn't have a valid digital license. It give the error code 0x803F7001. When I tried to activate over the phone it said that it was already activated on another device. Then it connected me to a Microsoft agent and he said that the Windows OEM key installed with the PC is not valid for it to activate Windows 10 and I needed to contact HP for a proper KEY for it to allow activation.Since the PC is out of waranty there is basically no way to contact support without paying which I feel is wrong in this situation. This is the first time I am trying to upgrade to the Windows 10, and I have the BIOS Windows 8 Product Key from the machine.I can not find any help on how to solve this issue. Greg

A:Windows 10 activation issue

Hi, Replacing only the HDD should not cause Win 10 to fail to activate. Did you install and activate Win 10 prior to the HDD failure? Frankly, Microsoft should just fix the problem. I am surprised Microsoft did not accommodate you . They want to install Win 10 on as many devices as they can before 7-29-2016. The Win 8.1 product key is in the BIOS. Go back to Win 8.1 and check out this site for tools to find the Win 8.1 product key in the Registry. Do a clean install of Win 10 by going here and following directions.  Use your PC's product key per Belarc during the installation. As always, back up data before doing a destructive OS installation.  Jay

After hurricane Arthur hit us here in Nova Scotia it knocked my mothers power out for a few days. Her computer was on at the time the power went out. When her power came back on the PC while booting up would give you three options. 1. start windows with networking, 2. without networking 3. I cannot remember the 3rd option. None of these options would work. The PC would show the Microsoft logo and say windows is starting then the screen would go black but you could see the mouse pointer. Long story short I tried every trouble shooting technique and none of them would work. The only option left was a chk disk which got me into her windows but now it says her copy of windows is not genuine. Here is my MGADT log.

The problem almost certainly lies in the permissions for the AppData folder in the NetworkServices profile.

Let's check
Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following commands

ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData
ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\Networkservice
ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles
ICACLS C:\Windows
ICACLS C:\Windows\System32
post the results

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I am working on a computer for a friend and have run into a very serious issue. First, let me explain the situation....She is 70 years and her husband passed away about a year and a half ago and she is having trouble with her computer and I agreed to help her as I am pretty computer savvy. When I booted the computer and it loads, it gives the "activation period has expired" error window and the desktop shows the windows not activated in the lower right corner. I have run the Validation tool and tried to repair the key from the internet. My biggest question is this, is there a way to tell if the computer is counterfeit or actually just past its activation period. It does give me the "you may be a victim of counterfeit software" message from time to time. Either way, I plan to buy a genuine copy of Windows 7 system builder OEM and install a fresh copy on it. Since the computer was bought from a company. I don't know the entire details on how the computer was obtained, but I do know the lady very well and know they are not the ones who did it. It sounds to me that they are indeed victims of counterfeit software. The version of windows is Windows 7 Enterprise if that helps any.

This is always an awkward one to diagnose
Let's start with the basics...

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please!) to your reply - also post a new MGADiag report.

I had to reinstall windows after a drive transferring operation left me unable to use windows.

I was able to activate windows with the same key (same hardware, same computer)

Now when I try to install WGA it gives me the above posted error. I deleted KB 107033 and reinstalled it after a restart. That did not help.

A:activation issue after reinstalling windows...

Give Microsoft a call and explain the situation, that would be the best course of action at this point.
The WGA program is still fairly new and it has encountered problems. I am sure MS will know the best solution. You are not the first with this problem.
Good Luck

Hi. Recently, I was helped here when I got a message on my monitor screen "Windows 7: Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not Genuine". I tried the rearm thing after looking at some other thread about the same thing. Someone posted in my thread that the rearm thing was only temporary, and that my report thing said the license for my copy of MS Word was being blocked because it was a volume license key. I uninstalled Word and went back to using WordPerfect that was still installed, and I went to this webpage Genuine Microsoft Software and did that. It said "Welcome to Windows! Because Windows installed on your PC is genuine, enjoy the blah, blah, blah."

I only just noticed some little message where icons are at the bottom of my monitor screen that said something about activate. It disappeared before I could click on it. It did the next time I saw it too. Then today, I saw the little message again and clicked on it, and then clicked on some "Activate Windows" thing. It said my product key is blocked.

Is this something that could have messed up when the other thing happened? Would it not have told me my Windows license was not good then? I bought this from an online store in May, 2014. It has two hologram discs, one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit, and a label with the product key that says it is not to be sold separately.

Here is the report thing from today. Does that tell anyone anything? The other thread with the previous report is here. Buil... Read more

The installation is showing signs of having been hacked by installation of RemoveWAT.

Download WATFix - make sure that you UNTICK the box for the 'download manager, and click on the link on the left of the page, not the big shiny button on the right (which is an ad for the download manager!!) - and use that - extraxt the .exe file, and run it, then reboot.

I checked my activation and it said it was not activated, got fed up and bought another activation code. I get this error
I've googled the error and tried multiple different ways to activate my key and i keep getting this error.
Anyone know how to fix?

Most likely you still have a volume licence key installed. Run the following commands as admin

slmgr.vbs -upk

slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
(the x's representing your Win 8 Pro key)

slmgr.vbs -ato

I just recently got my PC updated and what not by a software guy I know.
For the past few days lately, I kept getting a message on startup saying that I have a certain number of days left for activation of windows. It asked me if I wanted to activate immediately so I clicked yes and a box came up saying that windows is already activated. For some reason though, I kept getting the message on startup, so I just went about ignoring it. Today was the 'deadline' for activation, and when I turned on my PC I got a message saying "You must activate windows before you can log on, do you want to activate now". I clicked Yes again and it took me to the same box again, saying it is all already activated. But when I clicked OK, it kept going back to the message prompting me to activate windows. There was no way past it. I tried pressing No but it would just keep coming back to the same message, so I couldnt log on.
I only just found away to log on using safe Mode, but thats no good since nothing much works in Safe Mode for most PC's. I tried running a few updates for Windows that I have on my PC via Safe Mode. Some of them updated properly, others said they are not able to be done in Safe Mode. So after updating and installing a few windows activation options, I tried again and got the same problem. I went into Safe Mode again and ran a SpyBot scan. After it was complete, it had found a few problems as normal, so I selected to fix the problems found. After that, I tried one... Read more

Background information:

I have an old laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. My laptop had a ton of junk on it. So I decided to do a factory reset and start all over. This was about a month ago.

The sticker on the bottom of the laptop was no longer readable. I used a Key Finder program to grab the Windows key.

I received no Windows installation disc with the laptop. I downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit ISO from digitalrivercontent.

I installed Windows. Everything was fine until yesterday. I had shut off my computer so Windows updates would install. I rebooted my laptop and got the following error message:

Error Code 0xC004F063
The software licensing service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license.

In the lower right-hand corner of my monitor is the message:
Windows 7

This copy of Windows is not genuine

I searched Google and read the forums to find out how to resolve the issue. I was quite surprised to read on the forum how it is assumed that the Windows software must be an illegal copy or that the user must have entered the wrong key. Those are very bold and erroneous assumptions to make. While it may be true I got my copy of Windows from Microsoft's digitalrivercontent website, I purchased a Windows key when I bought my laptop, I did not receive a Windows installation disc with my laptop, and no one informed me that if I did a factory reset that I would have to buy Windows all over again. A:Windows Genuine and Activation Issue

Computers that come pre-installed with Windows from large manufacturers usually come with two Product Keys.

OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows (from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table) found only on computers from that Manufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses in the OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine is rebooted.

COA SLP: This is the key seen on the sticker located on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. This key is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whatever reason.

The Key in your report is the OEM_SLP Key - which requires that it be installed using the Recovery media.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

Machine one contains a valid, licensed copy of Windows (XP Pro) along with hundreds of applications and applications settings (some installed automatically by Microsoft as part of normal internet activity). Machine one grows old. Now we purchase machine two with a completely valid, licensed copy of Windows (again, version XP Pro). We want to move the entire contents of machine one to machine two to avoid days of reconfiguring the entire machine (a common problem, Iím sure). Machine one will subsequently be retired. Symantec happens to make a VERY GOOD product that allows doing just this. Iím sure there are probably other products that accomplish the same thing. The product is Backup Exec System Recovery. It allows a bare metal restore of machine one to a blank machine two. The only problem is that when trying to activate this new machine (machine two), Microsoft balks at accepting the product code for machine two. THIS IS A PERFECTY VALID, LICENSED PRODUCT. Why can we not submit the product code for the new machine and, subsequently activate it????

Cut to the chase: choose any module, hold down shift while right clicking and select "Run as Administrator".

It seems that you must run the activation as administrator or you will get errors such as 0x80070190 saying an unspecified error occured and try again later. Thanks for all the help Microsoft.

Neither is it explained that running the setup will not get you a prompt to enter the product key. To get to this page, you have to pick a modue (any module) and select "Help". There you will find the notation that this product is unlicensed, and a choice to enter the product key.

Hope this makes someone's day a little easier.

BTW: I heard some people had difficulty trying to install Office (2010 or otherwise) under Windows 10. I plan to upgrade to Win10 tomorrow, so I chose to install Office today while running Win7.

I was gifted a brand new Lenovo Ideacentre A520 last October 2013. Windows 8.1 Build 9600 was pre-installed. Just 2 months ago (around May 2016), an Activate Windows 8 notification screen appeared. I've no idea why this started popping up and I'm 100% sure my unit and all its contents are genuine. Whenever I click 'activate online' the application turns into a white full screen window with no text. All you can do is close the window. Which leaves me with entering the activation key manually instead. But I don't know where I can find it. I searched the box and can't find the key listed anywhere. Does anyone know where I could find my activation key and does anyone know why this happened to my computer? I don't recall tinkering with the system. Although I do remember getting a Windows 10 Update notification every now (which I always postpone), then my computer froze and the Activate Windows screen first appeared. I don't know if the two are related. I also noticed that when you click "Activate Windows" from the PC Settings, it doesn't open whenever the internet is connected. I just want to fix this because I'm really annoyed that the Activate Windows screen opens up half an hour. It's hard to work with it.

Hi StudioVAC ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Product keys from OEM (starting from windows 8 onwards) are embedded on the machine as same reason why the microsoft stickers no longer show the 25 digit codes and activated directly once connected to the servers.

Internally some softwares are being used to extract the keys by other means such as here. To know more of the original keys review here .

It maybe that keys are compromised as reasons why notifications are showing or problems with how the updates being handled . Verify original keys and its status from the system properties , back up important files just in case it would block your access and check your options to prevent such update notification as shown here.

Update us how it goes .

I had a virus problem with my PC about a month ago. I took it to a PC repair shop for repair and they told me that it would be a good idea to upgrade my PC from XP to Win 7 in addition to correcting the virus issue.

They upgraded my PC and everything seem OK for about a month and then a Window activation message popped up whenever I booted my PC and periodically while running. The message indicates that Windows must be activated and to click on a link for online processing. I also noticed that when the message appears the wallpaper is disabled.

I called the shop they told me to bring it in, which I did and they checked and claim windows was activated and that the pop-up is a virus/trojan.

Form reading several threads on the web it appears that others have also run into this issue.

But I ran malwarebytes and spybot and neither picked up the issue.

I emailed malwarebytes and they think that this copy of windows may not be legit. And Murice in product support suggested that I mention Noel Paton as someone who should look into this on your forum.

I ran the MGADiag program and here are the results.

A:Windows 7 activation issue (real or fake?)

The installed Product Key is the Default Key, which can NEVER be activated, legally.
Your machine looks as if it originally shipped with Vista installed - What does the COA sticker on the case say?

The current install is classed as counterfeit, because the Key cannot be activated legally, and yet is apparently activated. The only way this could happen is if there is a hacker's Activation Exploit present to bypass activation and validation requirements.
I can also tell you which hack it is that's installed - it produces characteristic errors in the MGADiag report. Part of it has broken down, probably as a result of cleanup operations (has an SFC /SCANNOW been run at some time since?)

When the shop upgraded your machine - they should have given you the (holographic) reinstall media, and (MOST important) the new Product Key on either a COA sticker, or a Proof of License card.
Did they do this?
If not, then they sold you a counterfeit, and you should threaten them with action for misrepresentation and fraud (as well as counterfeiting). They also stand a good chance of a visit from the FBI if you actually follow through (the FBI has jurisdiction in the US over software counterfeiting).

In short - go for the jugular!

None of the FRST downloads will run on my system; "Platform not Supported".

But, going through Services in msconfig, I find two services pertaining to the Windows Activation Tool; one I can stop, the other I can't.

If somebody was able to stop the tool I couldn't stop - In Services or (gasp!) the Registry - I'd bet the issue could be resolved once and for all (until MS came up with something else anyway). And that depends on Windows Activation Technologies Service being the same as Windows Activation Technologies UX which, of course, is not in Services.

Please see image. WAS was the one I could stop and remains stopped. But WatAdminSvc isn't one I can stop. And I don't know that I should. It's that "Windows Activation Technologies UX" service that makes me suspect. Probably because it's at the top of the context menu of the WinX Activation Icon.

My Lenovo Y510P HDD failed and I had to put in a new one and reinstall Windows 8. However, I didn't know which version it came installed with exactly, so I tried Windows 8.1 Pro.

Now it bugs me with watermarks (and progressively more invasive stuff) about activating Windows. However Lenovo is no help in helping me find my product key...

So I have a few questions:
I read somewhere that when your computer comes with Windows pre-installed on it, the product key gets written in the BIOS. Is it true?
Is the BIOS on the HDD I removed, or should it still be on the laptop's memory?
Does this mean I installed the wrong version of Windows, and if I find the right one, it will "activate" automatically using the aforementioned key?
If so, how do I find which version of Windows I had exactly, and
Is there a way to "change" the version (reinstall) without losing all my files...again?

Thanks for any help...

I know that this issue has been posted a dozen times on this forum and I've looked through them but to no avail. At work I have a Dell Precision T5610 workstation that I received from my employer but not through IT. Which is weird. IT only officially handles our laptops. The workstation I received was straight from the Dell factory. There was an issue with that installation of windows where my HDD usage was 100% almost all the time, making it impossible to use the computer without suffering from excruciating lag. I was worried it was a piece of Dell software causing the issue. So I used Belarc to get my Windows 7 key. And did a completely fresh windows 7 installation (not using the dell recovery partition). I've never had an OEM copy of windows before and was unaware of the COA weirdness associated with such a key.

I've been putting off the windows activation stuff but today started getting the popup saying my copy might not be genuine. The key that I got using Belarc doesn't work (which I now know is to be expected...) and the workstation itself doesn't appear to have the COA sticker that I guess i need to activate. I do still have the Recovery partition, but I REALLY don't want to start with completely fresh Windows again. Does anyone have any advice on what (if anything) I can do to get Windows activated without reinstalling from the recovery partition? And if not, how do I actually go about doing such a recovery? I've attached the WGADiag thing in case it helps.

The Product Key for Dells should be on the back of the case - although on desktops it's almost always on the outside, it may be in the inside of the case flap.

Having said that, it looks to me as if this is a machine which shipped with Windows 7 as a downgrade - in which case you MUST use the proper Recovery media for the install, and not a retail disk (which is what you appear to have done here).

Is there a Windows 8 sticker on the case, rather than a COA sticker?

Del Recovery disks are usually the cleanest of them all, since the main disk is almost always a 'pure' OS disk, and you then have the additional drivers & Applications disk from which you can pick and choose.

I suggest that you reformat and reinstall using the Recovery media.

I am have a problem with the Produce Activation on a Windows XP OS.

I replaced the Motherboard, Processor, and memory.

The HDD was inaccessible, so I Imaged the drive, cleaned it, then reloaded the OS (Repair).

On reboot the OS popped up with a window:
(Window Reads:
WINDOWS PRODUCT ACTIVATION

"This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate now?").

So I clicked Yes; there was a lot of activity on the connection for about 4 minutes, but it never seems to finish.

Every time I reboot it does the same thing, so I reloaded again (thought something might not have loaded correctly). No Change.

After a few minutesI get another pop up window:
(Windows reads:
Microsoft Feeds Synchronization

Microsoft Feeds Synchronization has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost).

I have used an Ubuntu Live CD (works OK). I also temporarily loaded another XP OS to see if it would work ((worked OK) Imaged drive before anything else, then replaced the image and did the OS repair).

Any Ideas? Please Help.

The hardware seems to be working very well:

Motherboard Bio-star MCP6P-M2 NEW
CPU AMD Athlon II X2 250 NEW
Memory Patriot PSD22G5002 (PC 6400) NEW
HDD Seagate 40G PATA
CD R/W Sony ? (works OK)
FDD ?? (works OK)

Thanks in advance
thoyler

Hello I recently purchased a manufacture refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad 8 tablet with windows 8.1 pro. All was good until I turned the tablet on and saw the small text at the bottom right of the screen with the version of windows I was running and the build number. I went to check the activation status and it says it's unactivated and the product key it's using won't work. I've never come across anything like this before. The key is built into the system and should always work at least it did in windows 7.

I did some research online and people said you could download a windows 8.1 iso from microsoft to reinstall an oem version and if it's the right version it won't ask for a key during install it will read it from the bios. So I downloaded the Pro, Core, and the single language Iso and all three ask for a key before installing.Should I try installing one of the iso's with the keys I do have? I would really prefer not to return the tablet? It took long enough to get it and I was hoping I could avoid waiting even more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what ShowKeyplus is telling me about the Product keys on the tablet.

A:Windows 7 home premium Activation issue Refurb PC

Hi melkiadark & welcome to sevenforums.

Here's the relevant part of the MGADiag report:

License Status: Notification
Notification Reason:
0xC004F009 (grace time expired).
Remaining Windows rearm count: 3

Run attached & see if it you have windows product key in registry.

You said Refurb PC, does it have product key sticker on machine? desktop usually on left side bottom. laptop usually on bottom or inside battery compartment.

You can enter this in elevated command prompt 3 times total, which has not been done yet according to MBADiaglog, but it's a temporary fix and resets the trial period.

slmgr -rearm

My old pavilion laptop died back in July, so a friend moved the hard drive from that computer to this slightly newer one.  The version of Windows 10 I was running was the free upgrade, but unfortunately they stopped offering it for free back in August, right? So finally getting this laptop back, I was stuck with windows 10 on a laptop that previously had windows 7, but I don't know what the product key for it is, or was. And because the hard drive move left everything looking stretched out, I downloaded windows 10 again, but still can't activate it.So am I out of luck and have to buy windows 10 now, or can I somehow go back to Windows 7 and do another proper install of Windows 10? Is there a way to find out what the product key for this comp was before the hard drive move. I don't think my friend knows what it is either.

A:Issue With Windows 10 Activation After Hard Drive Move

Hi, HDD on your machine with Windows 10 (free upgrade or pre-installed) 10 failed, you can change HDD, re-install Windows 10 on new HDD and Windows 10 on THIS machine will be activated (actually already activated). In your case, you moved the HDD with Windows 10 to another machine, this is not going to work. You can install same version of Windows 10 on your OLD laptop with SAME hardware and Microsoft will activate for you. Note: I did change my HDD (to SSD) on one of my machines yesterday using Windows 10 Pro 1607, no need to activate. Regards.

Hi
Win 7 activation is failing due to error code 0xc004e003
I will post the MGAD Tool results at the end of the post, but first I'll explain the full situation (in case it helps)
A friend asked me to sort out their PC as it was stuck continually attempting, and failing, to downloading new Windows updates.
When I took a look, I noticed it had the option to upgrade to Win10. After checking with them, they said they would give it a try so I installed it.
After a bit of playing we noticed the graphics card wasn't fully compatible and would no longer let them play Minecraft (their kids favourite game), so I used the revert to Win7 option.
However, after Win7 had been re-installed it started saying that I needed to be authenticated. Upon trying to I just get the code 0xc004e003 even though (as far as I am aware) it was fully authenticated previously.
The details from MGAD follow:

A:windows 7 home premium 64bit activation issue

The likelihood is that you simply need to use operator activation.

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

   Information
This is a set of posting instructions to use so that you can get better help here at SevenForums.com when you have a Windows non-genuine and/or activation issue.

Here's How:

1. Click on either of the Download buttons below to download the MGADiag Tool from Microsoft.
2. Save the MGADiag.exe file to your desktop and run it.

3. If prompted, click on Run and Yes (UAC).

4. Click on the Continue button. (see screenshot below)
5. When the report is finished, click on the Copy button. (see screenshot below)

Please DO NOT forget Step 7 to enclose the resultant report in a code box as this makes it easier for us to read, especially when we refer backwards and forwards to it from any subsequent replies in your thread. I've had to add the code tags to a few reports lately because of this.

My parents recently bought me a Lenovo T400 thinkpad. It came with Windows 7 Enterprise installed on it but it keeps saying that im activation key is incorrect/invalid. I've done some research and have came to the conclusion that it was previously used for some company that had volume licenses for this laptop.

1st. Am I right to make that assumption, and how can I keep windows 7 enterprise without having to purchase it since its already on my laptop and every time i sign on it keeps asking me about it and changes all my settings?
2nd. If i were to change softwares i can get windows 7 professional from my university but would i lose all the software from lenovo thats already on here like; fingerprint reader, updater, power controls etc.... and its ability to boot up in 20-25 seconds?

thank you in advance.

Am facing  use with my windows activation on Lenovo Thinkpad L 440 laptop after doing the factory reset, when i have called Lenovo support center they were asking me to purchase new recovery disk of costing $70 + tax or Annual maintenance fee of $199 + tax to get this issue fixed. But this is very much unfair of asking this much amount of money from customer even after paying for getting Windows 8 on our system during the time of purchase of Laptop. Any one knows the escalation matrix for getting this issue resolved. Please help me out on this regard. Thanks,Prabhu
