Have been using Zone alarm, but may go to Comodo

I use primarily Firefox and keep current with updates. I try to scan my computer, a desktop put together for me by a family member, once a week. They installed McAfee Professional, but the rest is free stuff: SpyBot Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, SUPERAntispyware, Defraggler ( at least once a month ), No Script, Abine, and similar - all freeware. Oh yes, CCleaner. They do not seem to interfere with each other.

The problems are this. I have several Firefox Extensions and I think some of these are causing trouble. I ran Firefox in safe mode after disabling all extensions. This helped, but I think there may be Profile problems, too. I've had trouble getting good directions for fixing that. Mozilla is crashing a lot. Running in safe mode is much better, but it still crashes or turns white.

Plus, I'm starting to have trouble running security scans from the programs listed above. The above register a fair amount of adware. That's one reason I went to No Script, which seems to help a lot. Just today, I had trouble logging into my one Yahoo account. Password didn't work. And I couldn't seem to get the help from Yahoo I needed. So, I suspect something is in there eating, too, but I have no idea what it is and have not been able to find it. Firefox is getting more unstable, so I'm trying to find out what extensions may be causing problems and if possibly the Profile needs to be looked at. I really need help. I do not know how to get rid of whatever HiJack finds either.

I have attached a log of HiJackThis

Thanks, Desert_gold

Preferred Solution: Lots of problems - maybe malware, profile and extension problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, my name's Katie and I'm having major virus/spyware,adware,malware removal issues! I

have a lot of different things going on here, and can't make any sense of it. I tried

following other people's solved threads, but they didn't solve my issues, so I guess I need

personalized help. I have Windows security running (well, I usually do when it's working

properly,) and I run Ad-Aware and Spybot regularly, but it appears that they cannot solve

my issue. Anyway, here's a list of things that have been happening to my computer since the

virus happened...

1. I KNOW the virus was contracted in AIM. An IM came in from a friend with only a link. It

didn't look suspicious to me, so I clicked it, and all of a sudden I had IMEd everyone in

my buddy list the link, and received about a million IMs back (didn't have time to read

them before My Computer's virtual memory ran out and crashed AIM on me.

2.When the computer starts up, sometimes a default background appears before the logon

screen with the user accounts appears.

3.After logon, the same thing in general happens every time. Spybot comes up with a bunch

of messages saying that there is a registry change to my homepage or something else

happening. I deny it, and it denies it over and over again to seemingly no avail. A .txt

file appears on the desktop. I have never opened this file, don't know what it is, and

delete it every time. My homepage is con... Read more

My son (i'm using his account at his direction) has been a member for a while and has used these forums for lots of help; just wanted to say thank you in advance as he told me he was very impressed with the help that he has received in the past. With that said, my laptop his been acting very strange. I told my son I was having "issues" and he suggested that I start by getting malwarebytes anti-malware, run it, and go from there. I did as he told me and am still having problems. I'm having all kinds of obviously fake warnings pop up, one in particular is XP Internet Security (others include google searches being redirected and homepages being changed). I'm not sure if i'm posting in the right place (if not, sorry), but can you help? Where do I start and what do I need to do?

Thank you again in advance

I don't see any anti-virus software running unless the SpySweeper is providing that.
Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.

Close any open browsers.
If your Real protection or Antivirus intervenes with OTScanIt, allow it to run.
Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
Under Additional Scans put a check in the box for Disabled MS Config Items
Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
Save that notepad file
Please post the resulting log here as an attachment.
Click on the blue Reply button
scroll down to Manage Attachments
Click in the box that says Upload File from your Computer
Click the Browse... button and find the file then click open
Click the Upload button
Wait until you see Current Attachment and your file name
Click on Close this window
Then submit the reply.

My laptop has been infected with several different types of malware over the past few weeks and I cannot get rid of any of it. Here are the symptoms:

PC boots up as normal into Windows, then runs slowly. An error message comes up saying that Google Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close etc.

I have tried to run Spybot - Search & Destroy but it will not actually run - Task Manager shows the process as running but nothing actually happens. I have also tried to install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from the .exe on my desktop but again this will not install - the hour glass appears for a second then disappears.

Here is the HJT log that I have just run:

Ok, I'm just happy I was able to get onto this website. Just to start off, I have Windows Vista Home Premium. So basically, a day or two ago I started getting an error message saying that "Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working". When I clicked "Check online for solutions" it wouldn't connect me to the Internet and said the page couldn't be displayed every time I tried. I just clicked ok and everything was fine, a little slow, but fine. But yesterday, everything fell apart. I don't know if any of this is related, but here's what has happened:-My computer was really slow yesteday morning and still today. When I tried to type stuff (particularly on the Internet), only a few letters show up because it's really lagging I guess and I have to type Sooooo SLOOOWLY-I started getting the host error message and my computer kept freezing-After the message, my computer goes black and my taskbar at the bottom of the screen gets weird and now it looks different. It looks older and its white and the time doesn't display. It also sometimes disappears completely until I restart. My internet is the same -- it looks like an older version-Most annoying problem: When I go on the internet, random ads pop up in the middle of me doing something (this never happens -- my computer has so much anti-virus stuff and anti-spyware, I've never had a problem! I have been using AVG free for the most part and recently I have been receiving a message stating that:

Application cannot run due to an error while verifying its electronic certificate.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled AVG several times only to see the error message repeat the second I reinstall it. I even went so far as to completely wipe my hard drive, delete the partition using windows setup and reinstall Windows XP, only to find the same error message once I got Windows and AVG reinstalled. I am really afraid that there might be a Worm or a piece of malware on my computer that is attacking an anti-virus system file. I have tried a myriad of different anti-virus programs only to receive various different error messages telling me that their system files have been hijacked. Can someone please help me. Hi This is my first time posting, and I have a lot of things causing problems with my computer, but to start off, here are my specs.

Windows 10 Pro
Intel Core i7-4770s CPU @ 3.10GHz
8 Gb Ram Corsaire Vengence 4x2
64 Bit
AMD Radeon HD 7700 GDDR5 1Gb (two of them w/ crossfire)
2 Tb 7200 Rpm Seagate HDD
z87-g45 Gaming Motherboard
Case: r5 Gaming Full size case
Power Supply: Corsair AX860
Fans: Rosewill Hyper Silence CPU fan, 2 stock front fans, 1 stock in back

So, to start off, I built this computer myself 2 years ago, and it has been running steadily without too many problems along the way, but earlier last year it began to have some much bigger problems.

Issue 1. Monitor Issues
I say this is a monitor issue, but i really doubt it has anything to do with the monitors them selves. What is happening every once in a while (about 3 times a week) the screens of my monitors will cut to black (it doesn't matter what I'm doing) and stay black for a few seconds before revealing the task bar at the bottom of the screen, and then the rest of my desktop slowly reveals itself. I sure need help  --- I do not know how to deal with viruses, trojans, spyware, etc.
My husband and I were traveling. We had to use public Wifi places to check our email on our laptop. when we got home and checked our email accounts on our laptops, we found some really weird looking email messages. I 'think' my husband opened one that had his name in the Subject line, but we deleted all he other ones that looked strange. We did not open those emails, just deleted them.
Now all 3 of our computers are doing really weird things. I have run scan after scan after scan, both downloaded one and online ones. Sometimes they find problems and fix them. sometimes the scans find nothing. Yet our problems just seem to be getting worse and worse. I DESPERATELY need a lot of help.
I know it would be very confusing to try to work on all 3 of our computers at once so maybe we can start with my husband's desktop computer.
I am currently running Avast on it and it has been running for hours. It is find TONS of things like these ----
"...is infected by win32:Funweb-K [Pup}"
"...is infected by JS: ScriptIP-inf [Trj}
etc, etc, etc.
I have very little knowledge of how to fix a computer problem and no idea what to do. And I have absolutely NO idea how our desktops became infected from our lap top.
Is anyone willing to help me? I know it is bad and will probably take a long time to fix, but I need help... Read more

Ok, I have lots of XP problems:

Can't open My computer from the desktop, the computer just locks up whilst attempting to open it, showing me the animated torch, saying it is looking for files.

The computer is running really slow, locking up and crashing programs for no apparent reason.

Cant access the drop down box (shortcut key F4) in windows explorer/applications/anywhere.

Internet explorer refuses to do anything if I type a web address without the http:// into the address box. It worked before, but now it isn't for some reason.

Finally, when I restart windows, it locks up for anything up to 5 minutes when it comes back up. The windows bar with the start button on, when I pass my mouse over it, the pointer turns to an hourglass and I am unable to do anything unti it sorts itself out.

I have tried running several anti virus programs, including AVG, Mcafee and Norton. Only AVG came up with a virus, 'Dialler'. I cleared this and it didn't make any difference. I alos tried system restore from several points, but each time it told me that it was unable to restore.

If ANYONE can give me any help at all, I would be extremely grateful.

Have you checked if this is in every folder or just one?

Can you also try to change the setting back to default. Restart and then change it back to this again and see how it goes.

Hi again

My friend, using Windows XP is having problems with .csh appearing when using Nuendo 2 / 3 - he cannot save any recordings. In addition, the internet crashes, programs cannot be opened, are slow or crash and he has to re-start his PC a hundred times a day.

He has tried to run AVG but it gets stuck in one place and he has to abort it.

Timeline :

- 2 weeks ago he changed from mobile to fixed line internet
- 2 weeks ago he downloaded a program which contained .zip files (not normally a problem)
- last week he downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader 11 (free version)

His technician insists there is nothing wrong, but he has now been to him 4 or 5 times and there is something very wrong !

Any ideas please - our mutual work has come to a standstill

Hey, I'm new here, obviously.

I've got a should-be-very-simple question.

I'm using a program called Mobile6, it's an EPA issued program which calculates emission results for cars, etc.

anyway, the program uses a DOS interface and requires an input file with the extension ".IN"

this input file is always compiled in notepad. So, when I go to save the file, I save it as whatever.IN, not as .IN.txt or anything, but of course notepad adds its .txt extension. I can't get XP to stop associating it with notepad.

even if I change the folder options of that file to always open with Mobile6, it still thinks it's a .txt file. I've used another XP Pro PC where when you saved the file, it appeared as whatever.IN.txt and you could simply rename it and remove the .txt part, and then XP wouldn't associate it with any particular program. But alas, I don't have this ability with my pc.

Please help guys, this is driving me nuts!

thanks, Kevin

A:.txt extension problems

Under save as type: in he save as file option

instead of making it say Text Documents .txt
make it say all files.

Use the drop down menu to select all files. then save it as whatever.in

I have Windows XP and have been running around in circles trying to convert some .flv files. I even purchased the Total Video Converter, a $45 product which hasn't helped. I am trying to email this .flv file, but I don't know how to open it nor convert it once I do. I thought I needed to open it with a .flv friendly program so that I could convert the extension using my Video Converter. So I downloaded Adobe's Macromedia Flash Player - that didn't work, so I downloaded FLV Player but I can't seem to find it in my program list. I'm so frustrated. Any suggestions?

OH YEAH!! I'm running Internet Expolorer as my browser.

A:Problems converting .flv extension

I've converted a few with this app. Note if one encoder doesn't work try another. I think I used ffmpeg.

It's a tough page to negotiate. You want Super , can be hard to download.

I am currently using Windows Vista and at some point when closing a window in Internet Explorer every .exe file extension changed to windows media player type files. and only open in WMP which in turn WMP cannot use, and says as much. Everything on my computer except internet explorer opens in windows media player, games, programs etc. The things i attempted to do were to fix the file extension in association window (one of the few things i can open) as well as shift right click fo rthe option "Open With.." both the .exe extension aswell as the open with option were not present. The file types for these programs have turned in WMP file types. I have no idea how to fix this or use anything other then explorer, im even having a hard time using online virus scans, most likely im guessing due to the problem with dling updates for it to my comp. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this problem so i can use my programs and change it so it opens and not in WMP?

Hello, My computer is having some hardware issues and I sent to a repair shop and they fixed it. Not sure if this is going to last long and I was looking to extend my HP warranty but I am unable to do so. Will HP repair my laptop if is stops working even though an unathorized repair shop has fixed this laptop before? Please let me know. Also if I could extent the warranty of this 2012 edition laptop please send me the link. Thanks a lot!

A:HP Hardware problems and Warranty Extension

#HPExpertDayYou may not be able to extend the warranty of product bought in 2012.If you already have a extended warranty and if an issue is not with the part the service center replaced/worked on then the extended warranty might work and again depends on the type of extended warranty.

Well, there are > 500 "regular" file extensions; > 5,000 total in the HKCR Registry key. A partial list is below.

To get a listing from your own system -
START | type cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | "Run as Administrator" | Paste -

reg query hkcr /f "." /k > "%temp%\1" & start notepad "%temp%\1"

A notepad will open w/ the results.

Cannot install all updates. Windows update items will allow me to download, but fail to install.
IE crashes. A LOT. " This program is not responding" etcetc; Only task manager and End Program will take me out of it. I work as a website analyst and view over 1000 pages per day so this happens at least 40-50 times per day costing me precious working hours.

I have recently done a clean install of Windows 10 and everything seemed to be fine. However, today I am getting lots of problems. I keep getting little windows popping up saying that an 'update is recommended' for Media Downloader. I am also getting lots of sites opening up that I do not want (a nude woman on the last one). More importantly in the last half hour or so a message appeared accompanied by a voice telling me to ring a number urgently as there was a potential virus found on my computer and that serious security vulnerabilities have been found and that I should call 0800-011-9684.

Can anyone throw any light on these please. Should I be relying on the W10 virus software or should I be going for AVG Free which I have always used previously. Also, do I need malwarebytes again, which I have also used before.

Would I be better going back to 8.1 or stick with 10 and do another clean install, to clean things up again.

Just to keep you abreast of my profile, I am a 75 year old who is reasonable in the use of a pc but not brilliant.

Thanks for any help.

A:Lots of problems

Sounds like you have a malware problem. I would start by deleting all browser history and temporary files using the browser options. Then run Windows disk cleanup, then run CCleaner disk cleanup.

CCleaner - Free Download - Piriform

If that doesn't get rid of it then go to Malwarebytes scanning.

I use Firefox browser almost exclusively and first thing I do is install ADBlock Plus. In addition to keeping my websites nice and clean with most advertisements gone, I believe this also helps protect me from malware disguised as advertising. Biggest thing you can do, really, is making sure you know exactly what you are clicking on before you click on it - especially when installing software - always look at exactly what EULA you are agreeing to and always check out the custom install options. Those are the places when installing software that you can deny installing unwanted add-ons.

I don't run any additional anti-virus/anti-malware software other than Windows Defender and I get the small annoying malware about once a year that usually deleting temporary internet files gets rid of. To be honest, I'm not all that careful what websites I visit either. But, I also have my browsers set to clear history on exit so nothing temporary hangs around for very long.

Run Panda ActiveScan here

Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button.
A new window will open... click the "Check Now" button.
Enter your Country.
Enter your State/Province.
Enter your e-mail address.
Select either Home User or Company.
Click the big "Scan Now" button.
If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes).
When download is complete, click on "Local Disks" to start the scan.
When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the "See Report" button; then "Save Report" and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the Panda scan report in your next reply.

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan.

So I restarted my computer this morning and noticed some problems.

1. Only AVG Anti Virus and Power ISO showed up in the system tray. I usually have AIM/ZoneAlarm/Volume/afew other things showing up, but none were there after 5min of waiting after startup. The clock was also gone.
2. The quickstart menu on the taskbar was just gone.
3. Lots of programs didn't open up when I tried, like AIM, Word, Windows Messenger, etc.

I thought that was weird so I just restarted again. When everything started back up, the taskbar was completely gone. All there is is the skinny gray line, like how you can click it and move it to stretch up/down except it won't let me expand it, all I see is the tiny gray line.

I decided to try System Restore and it said...

"System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer and run System Restore again."

After some Googling, I found someone with a similar problem that suggested a few thigns.

1. Go into Admin Tools>Services and try to enable System Restore from there. I tried to do this and it won't work. When I right click it and hit properties nothing happens at all. When I right click and hit Start I get this message...

"Could not start the System Restore service on the Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency or group failed to start."

Hi there,

I am fairly certain I have acquired some sort of Malware infestation. My computer is having all types of glitches, including nearly all the programs disappearing from my start menu. I have attached an HJT log and would be really appreciative for some advice.

Additionally, my computer will just lag -- all processes grind to a halt and I can't even press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. And the most recent time I restarted my computer a handful of "ghost" icons appeared on the desktop -- there isn't much rhyme or reason to them either. Some are temp files, there is a .ini file, a shortcut to a program, and some word/excel documents. And also when I produced the HJT log and saved it a game booted up (this happened several times.) There is definitely something wonky going on.

Please help! Thanks so much!

I suggest going to the security forum and reading all sticky posts and general information. Post a HJT log because of the symptoms you describe it seems all the AV programs have missed something - which is very possible because they are all far from being perfect.

I wouldnt overclock to take care of this problem.

Once your malware problems are solved i would start a new thread in the hardware forum - thats where you'll get the best advice considering OCing.

Well, basically ever since I got this stupid computer, I've been having problems with the internet. Sometimes, complete webpages will not open up (refreshing them does nothing, it loads for a little bit and then stops with the page still fully unloaded). Other times, the website will load, but only the bottom part will (?) the actual article or body of the website is completely missing. On Gmail specifically, it's very hard to get anything done as the webpage will stop responding. It's always Gmail too, every time I get on it on Internet Explorer it does this. Sometimes videos on Youtube will not play, it shows a black screen and nothing else. Sometimes links on google will not open up. Also, on this website, I will sign in but as soon as I click on forums, it tells me I don't have access because I'm signed out (which I'm not)! I mean, this is a brand new computer (I only got it in August) it shouldn't have problems like this!! But I don't even know where to start.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRL Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. The current wait time is 1 - 5 days and ALL logs are answered. If HelpBot replies to y... Hi Wyrmboy,

Welcome to Tech Support Forum!

I apologize for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy here lately. If you are still having malware problems, I will be glad to help.

OK, let?s try this and see if your problem goes away.

We need to disable your Windows Defender real-time protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

To disable Windows Defender:Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Go to the Start menu, and click on Control Panel. Choose Add/Remove Programs and remove any of the following that are listed:

Lycos SideSearch
MyWay Search
MyWay Search Assistant
MyWay Speed Bar
MyWebSearch Bar

I hope some one can help. I have had problems all week when I switch on the computer it comes up with

unexpected internal c tree (R) error 7716

When I click ok its followed by

The instruction at 0x7c809783 reference memory 0x000343d4 The memory could not be written, That was the first problem. I had a look aroung msconfig start up and saw somthing called point 32 and semanticInsight which I have disabled. Computer went mad shut downs pop up warnings etc.
I have scanned in safe mode with system restore switched off using

adaware ( which would not scan kept going to blue screen with fatal error warning)
spybot (found loads, toolbar 888, media plex, plus others)
CWS shredder ( found CWS misconfig and some thing else forgot name of)
Windows defender ( again toobar 888, C2lop, need to find bar, altnet plus others)
Ewido ( found about 5)

This is the second time I have performed these scan in todays and in the same mode and they keep coming up with the same stuff

Avg has found 9 trojans in two days and still keeps firing warnings at me.

I have look around and delete stuff I think should not be there. I have just rebooted and the same error message internal C tree etc is still there.

I have posted my Hijack this log to see if anyone else can see something I carnt I myself are running out of options what to do next. IE keeps struggling going off to a spyware site wanting me to buy. What ever it is it keeps coming back.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

The last time you asked for help you did not respond to the assistance offered so I hope you will this time.

Please move HijackThis out of the Temporary files and into a separate folder of its own in program files, so that it can function properly and create back-ups which can be restored, if necessary.

It is likely that you have a variant of the Vundo trojan that hides itself from HijackThis.exe so if we rename HijackThis, the entries should become visible.

Go to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis folder. Right click on the HijackThis.exe file and select "Rename". Rename it puppy.exe. Make sure it has the .exe extension or it will not work.

Then run HijackThis again and post a new log please.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Do not run it yet.

You have the Peper infection. Download PeperUninstall. Make sure you are connected online to run this program. Run it once and reboot. Then run it again for the second time. Download PeperFix and save it to your Desktop. Run it and click Find and Fix (reboot if prompted).

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

In the last few months I've been having alot of trouble with my computer.

First I started noticing slow loading times. For example, windows would load really slowly (it would be on the loading screen at startup for 5 minutes), installing programs would take at least five times as long as usual and it would take ages for my games to load. I scanned for viruses but there weren't any. I reformatted my PC and it seemed to fix the problem. However, after installing and playing a game (Call of Duty 4) for a few hours it started playing up again. Same problem; slow loading times. I reformatted once again. I played the same game again, and it froze. I tried restarting but it just blue screened at the windows loading screen...I reformatted once again and haven't installed the game since.

I move my PC around alot. I take it back and forth between houses every few weeks. About 50% of the time I've done this it starts playing up again. For example, last week when I moved my PC to another house I tried starting it up but I would get an error saying something about a missing DLL, and it told me to contact the system administrator or replace the DLL. I formatted my C drive partition (I created another partition last time I reformatted because I was sick of losing all my important files) to get it working again. Most problems I've had when I've moved my computer have prevented me from starting it up, but I didn't always get this DLL error. Another one I ... Read more

Start by testing memory:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista and can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

My computer (Win XP) is giving me all kinds of error messages. When I start it up, four Microsoft windows pop up. One for DAP. McAfee, Quick Time and BackWeb-7288971.exe. Also one from Norton that says it can't start the e-mail (the procedure entry point GeuForeground Window could not be located in the dll User 32.dll) and about thirty seconds later a Windows Explorer error pops up and says it must close. I tried to use the System Restore, but as soon as I click on it, up pops the error page and it, too, has to close.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brookbend,

I think there is some sort of Virus in your computer. Did you tried running the antivirus software .. If yes what is the software you are using?

Did you tried checking the computer in Safe mode ?

Please let me know what changes you have done before this issue started.

Hello,You don't have even an antivirus or a firewall installed on your system. That is very risky!First of all, disable your spysweeper, because it can interfere with the fixes. When you enable it again, make sure you allow everything in your spysweeper, because those are the changes you made yourself, so don't let spysweeper block it again.* Uninstall Media Access via add/remove programs.Reboot.* Download: HosterUnzip hoster to an own folder, eg C:\Hoster Start Hoster.exe, click 'Restore Original Hosts' and click OK. * Perform an onlinescan with housecall and/or Etrust and let it delete everything it is finding.Download http://www.trojaner-info.de/cgi-bin/downlo...gi?file=sphjfixUnzip it to your desktop.Start SpSeHjfix and click "Start disinfection"Let it finish the job.Restore your websettings: Go to start > controlpanel > Internetoptions > Tab Programs.Click: "Restore Websettings"When done, post a new hijackthislog together with the log that SpSeHjfix produced.
