Slow FPS after 14 months of working fine

Q: Slow FPS after 14 months of working fine

I apologize in advance for the length:

My computer is about 14 months old. It was working fine and running all games with max settings at 60 fps (which is the highest my monitor will allow) until about a week ago. I purchased a game called Xsyon and after a day or two I noticed some graphics lag. I did not test it on any other game at this time. I noticed my video driver was out of date and installed the newest one. I then tried to play Civilization 5 and noticed a severe slowdown. I had to change all settings to low for it to run at 60 fps. Even on med, it only gets about 30. I thought maybe it was a virus (although CPU usage when idle is always under 4% usually 0% and RAM is about 1.5g out of 8, so I didn't THINK it was a virus, but who knows) Did full scan with AVG and found nothing. Uninstalled AVG and downloaded and installed Avira. Full scan found nothing. Downloaded and installed Malewarebytes and full scan found 4 errors which were resolved and now it finds no errors. The problem persisted. I uninstalled Xsyon and Civ 5. Uninstalled the driver. Went to safe mode, used driversweeper and installed previous driver. Rebooted to normal mode, reinstalled Civ 5 and the problem persisted. Uninstalled previous driver, went to safe mode, used driversweeper and installed new driver again. Uninstalled and reinstalled Civ 5 again. Problem persisted. I have read some on other forums about my PSU not being the best.

800 Watts - XtremeGear Gaming Power Supply - Quad SLI Ready

So I am wondering if a faulty/weak PSU would cause something like this after 14 months of running properly.

Also, I noticed my lowest score on Windows Experience involved my Disk Data Transfer rate. Could this be a problem with my hard drive?

System Info and DxDiag are below.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I have run ChkDsk and everything seemed fine. Also have run ESET after getting rid of malware and none is detected.

Preferred Solution: Slow FPS after 14 months of working fine

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Slow FPS after 14 months of working fine

Updating drivers is not very often a good idea. With graphics in particular, though you may need to install a different driver for new features or compatibility with a particular game, the newer the driver, the less it is going to be backward-compatible with older cards and the more it will be compatible with the newest ones. If you got good speed with the older driver, you most likely should have kept it (and can roll back to it at any time).

When a problem occurs, solutions are made more difficult when things that have not changed, and therefore could not be involved with the problem, are themselves altered. A new problem means there is something new going on, not that the old and tested components have suddenly started to cause trouble.

Sudden slowdowns of almost any type are usually malware-related. Try scanning with a couple different tools.

Printers are loaded and working, but when I print I get this message. Syasb before I can print I need to select a printer. As you can see, the window in the upper left shows no printers. I will re-boot and it might work once, then it prints out part of an PDF and I am stuck. The part of a PDF I am having problems with is the one were I first got the problem today.

Sounds sketchy I know, but hopeing it makes sens to somebody!

A:No printers? Really? Been working fine for months!

Check the website for updated drivers

If that does not work, try uninstalling and then installing it again. After the uninstall, boot the computer.

I built this computer ~12 months ago. Everything had been working just fine till yesterday. BSOD came up. I've done the following

Ran Kaspersky Virus scan off USB boot key - Clean
Ran Chkdsk on main drive, found a few problems and fixed
Using Windows 7 boot cd, did system restore from a few days ago.

Now the computer boots to the log in screen, then locks up after i enter my password.

Wanted to add, just started running Memtest86+. Need to read more about understanding memory dumps. Not sure yet how to tell if one is pointing to bad memory.

WIndows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel Core i7-920
ASUS P6T SE Motherboard
XFX HD-487A-ZWFC Radeon HD 4870

I've attached the last 6 mini dumps all from last night and this morning.

Thanks for any help

A:BSOD, Working Fine for months now this

The only thing listed as probable cause are Windows OS drivers and usually they are too general to be of much use for diagnostic purposes.

The fact that you ran Check Disk and there were a few problems lends me to advise that you use the harddrive diagnostic utility from your harddrive manufacture.

Burn it to a CD, place your DVD drive as First bootable in the BIOS, place CD in drive and reboot. Make sure you especially do the long test.

My computer was a little slow to start and I found the PC HealthAdvisor was forced to "call" in to activate the download and they took remote control of my computer. Suddenly something that was just meant to tweak my computer to speed it up turned into my computer was in "critical" condition and in need of me spending $200 for a microsoft certified tech to fix it. They were using a very hard sell showed me my computer had 20,000 events lots of warnings and errors. He told me my computer was in danger of crashing I should have taken care of it better. I am a software user and by that I mean I can use the basic office package and do some neat tricks with it, but by no means an expert and I can get around in the internet again certainly can not make it do everything it has the ability to do. I have no clue what an event code is let alone how the heck to fix it. and I really don't have $200 bucks right at this point to have them fix it. So any one go any ideas where to start with the 20,000 errors?

A:Slow start up but computer seems to be working fine otherwise

I would first try to set it back to an early restore point and if that does not help reinstall Windows from the recovery partition (but for that you have to save your own files first). If you still have the slow boot problem, we can try to fix that - this is usually pretty easy.

But in no way pay those suckers $200 - that is ludicrous.

If you need any help with the above mentioned steps, let us know.

Hello, I hope you can help me.
I have a Samsung Q530. It is quite dated, I think possibly almost 6 years old, but I love it and would really like to keep using it for a bit longer.

Problems started a few months ago (around October). The computer started being really slow, particularly Google Chrome which, until then, had shown no issues at all.
Long story short: I tried many different methods, starting from reinstalling Chrome, then running antivirus scans, including in safe mode, even tried to update it to Windows 10 hoping it would fix the problem, but it didn't. I did endless google searches but to no avail.

Two months later, in December, I decided it was just a lot easier to reinstall the OS, and so I did.
That seemed to finally solve the problem! Everything was working fine again, back to normal.

However, it has now been a couple of months that the laptop is slow again on start-up - and by this I mean AFTER it has booted up and I have entered the password to log into my profile. It would open up my profile, and then I would click on Chrome or on a folder and it would take a good 10, 15 minutes before the computer responds again. But after that time has passed, it does work absolutely fine.
I have already checked for programs that open automatically at start up and there's nothing suspicious or extra.

On one single occasion, it took a while to show my profile after I had put my password in, and I eventually got an error message saying that my profile data... Read more

I recently moved, before the move my computer worked fine, browsers were quick to connect to websites, etc. After the move, my computer seems to work just fine, until you open a browser. This issue happens with Chrome/Firefox/IE, when trying to visit websites it takes a couple minutes for them to load, and about 50% of the time the connection times out. However, games such as League of Legends works smooth with no connection errors.

I have tried the following:

1) changing the DNS to Google DNS (didn't help, if anything it made it worse)
2) Factory Reset (no difference after this)
3) network.dns.disablePrefetchf
4) Ipconfig/flushDNS

Hello everyone.

Currently, I live in a college apartment that has internet for the building. Not that many people are here, so I figured it would be okay. Here is a speedtest:

As you can see, it should be decent. It IS decent when I'm browsing the internet..facebook, email, youtube, etc.

It is also fine when I am downloading files.

But when I play games in Steam, it is very slow. When I search for servers, the pings are all 1000+. When I join a game, my ping is 500-600 and it's unplayable cause of how jumpy and choppy I am.

The thing about this is that when I download steam updates/files, it downloads at regular speeds!

How can I fix this? What settings do I look at? I've heard of port forwarding and things like that, but I am not sure exactly what to do.

One huge detail: This very same internet used to run the game fine, as well as World of Warcraft (I haven't tested that game with the internet now since I quit a while back), but there was a huge power out, power went out for 5 days, and now it's running slow.

So anyway, any help would be appreciated. Basically, why are games running super slow when everything else is pretty good?

A:Internet working fine in browsers, but in Steam games? Slow

Howdy all! I was here in the past a while ago with getting semi-frequent BSODs on boot after the splash and login screen. The issue I found was a loose power connector. I snugged it in place, and then my system is fine for many months (maybe four or five). Now this morning, I had quite a few BSODs after the splash screen and logging onto my computer. I was finally able to get a successful boot after many attempts. I checked power connections, tried to make the connections secure, yet still got BSODs. Dump is attached. You guys are awesome. Thanks!

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

A:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

RAM - Crucial Vengeance low profile DDR3 1600mhz 16GB

I also have 4 hardrives (1 3TB, 3 1 TB) and 1 SSD (Crucial 256GB) (my OS is installed on the SSD)

System Manufacturer - MSI?

The problem:

Working fine for 2 months (no issues). Today I started the pc and I went away to do something else. Came back to a black screen (which had some backlighting). I moved the mouse and typed something and the screen didn't change and I assumed something had crashed so I restarted (held down power button)

I attempt to restart only for the PC to get into a loop of restarting exactly when the blue windows logo appears and then I get the windows 8 BSOD (sad white face) but I can't read the error as it restarts too fast.

It then attempts to repair and gets to the "Preparing automatic repair" before the whole "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to restart" BSOD.

Tried removing all cables (Everything except PSU cable) - No effect. Computer still restarted continuously.

I have made no recent hardware modifications.

~ Brya

A:Computer worked fine for 2 months. Now gets BSOD on "Prepairing automatic Repair"

Looks like one of my memory sticks seems to be at fault. Tried a single stick and it worked fine. Tried the other "bad" stick and the problem occurred again (computer just froze).

Tried using both sticks with good stick always in slot 1 and the bad stick in 2,3,4 and problem occurs as normal.

Why and how did this occur? It was working fine 3 hours ago with both sticks until I put the computer to sleep. After that, the problem started...

Another problem now is that using the single "good stick" causes the pc to load fine except it doesn't display the login information and just displays a bright blue screen. I have to press the power button (which I have set to sleep) and then press it again to resume in order for windows to display the login information (i.e. resuming the pc caused it to show my account name and ask for my password etc)

Why do I have to do this? should I run automatic repair? I'll probably try running repair anyway.

A:Slow processing after 2 months.

Viruses and, strangely enough, anti-virus software can cause this problem.

We must rule this out.

Follow this draconian advice:
1. Download MalwareBytes. Malwarebytes Malwarebytes
2. Disconnect from the Internet.
3. Disable your present antivirus software and firewall.
4. Remove your present antivirus software and firewall.
5. Install and run the MalwareBytes Quick Scan (remove any bad guys). 3min 29secs on my laptop.
6. Reconnect to Internet.
7. Update MalwareBytes.
8. Run malwarebytes quick scan again.(remove any bad guys). 3min 38secs on my laptop.
9. Run MalwareBytes full scan. 16min 8secs on my laptop. With large, full disk ~2hours.
A. Disable your present antivirus software and firewall
B. Remove your present antivirus software
C. Download Microsoft Security Essentials.
D. Run Microsoft Security Essentials. Quick Scan - ~8 min on my laptop.
E. Run Microsoft Security Essentials. Full Scan - ~ 1hr 50 min on my laptop.
Now I advise you to uninstall MalwareBytes and only install again when and if you need it.
Why?, you ask. Leaving MalwareBytes installed slowed my system. AutoRuns showed MalwareBytes processes running even after exiting from MalwareBytes.

Running a Windows 7, 64bit, with AVG Free Edition.
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.00GHz, 4GB RAM,

In 2011 I left my PC free of Antivirus and Malware cleaner, and never looked for a new one until this year. I could feel the delays at times even with AVG installed. I don't know how to spot unusual things in Process Explorer since everything bounces up and down. Boot up is taking over 3-5 minutes until it can normally function, same when turning off. Yet just opening a chrome page or playing media player classic right after when start-up is done will take me a while, it gets a bit better after a long while. I hope I can get some help from you guys, if not this time I will probably re-install my Windows for the best. Here's my log.

Hello all,

First off, I have been searching these forums for several days and have seen a number of people reporting slow wireless connections in Windows 7. Which was comforting, knowing I was not alone - but unfortunately I've yet to find the answer in any of the older posts, so I am hoping that making one of my own will help resolve this. Sorry to add to the noise, but I'm kind of out of ideas. Now for the problem:

Initially my wireless speed in Windows 7 was comparable to what I got under XP - mainly 54mbps but occasionally dropping lower, but nothing out of the ordinary. However, I've recently noticed that I am never going about 18mpbs now on my wireless connection, and the actual speed seems to be bottlenecked even slower than that. Example, here is a speed test I just ran.

Here is the results of my ipconfig /all

A:Slow Wireless Speeds - Laptop is fine, Desktop is SLOW

I almost don't believe it, because I could have sworn I had tried this in the past. I changed the broadcast channel from 10 to 1 after doing another WiFi channel search and seeing a new network broadcasting on 8. I was still getting good signal strength, but I figured it couldn't hurt. About 30 seconds later my wireless speed jumped back up to 54mbps and this is the speed test now.

Glad its fixed, but I almost don't trust that this will stay fixed. Going to leave this open for a day or two to see if anyone else has any suggestions that I might want to try.

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

A:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

I recently moved and my computer was down for two moths with no internet access. I have been working off a laptop and looking forward to getting back on so I can really get some work done. Running fine before storing and moving. First day up and it runs like molasses. Both MSWord and/or OpenOffice running terribly and freezing up after every command. I have work due and can hardly send email, much less write a complete article in word. Dumped temp files, updated, the restored thinking updates were problem then updated again. In word, it will not highlight. I cannot drag files around as the computer acts like it only recognizes some of my mouse commands.
How can I get my speedy computer back in shape?

I am not sure exactly at what point it happened but I recently found that the touch screen on my Elite X2 1011 was not working. The pen still functions normally. When checking the pen and touch settings I can only configure the pen settings and only "Pen support" is listed in view pen and touch settings. The touch screen used to work in both the original Windows 8.1 and then also after upgrading to Windows 10. There have been no error messages and the event logs do not seem to indicate any problems; it is as though the machine has just forgotten it is a touch screen. I have tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling both Windows 10, and going back to Windows 8.1 to no avail. I really loved this little device but ease of use is cut rather drastically without the touch functionality. Has anyone else had a problem like this and have a solution? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

I've got a Dell laptop here that isn't functioning properly. I can't get this to work for the life of me! I am currently using this laptop with a different hard drive, it's the install on the SSD that doesn't work. I know that the quick fix would be to simply reload windows, but I don't want the quick fix.

Basically, laptop works with Windows 7 install on a hard drive, no issues. On the SSD, where the ONLY applications loaded are Office 2013 and Firefox (and all the latest updates), the internet does not work (I can ping yahoo.com and get a response, so DNS is fine). The problem persists on IE and Firefox. I have no AV software other than MSE, and the problem persists in Safe Mode w/ networking. The hosts file is clean. The internet worked on the computer just fine when I loaded it, I hadn't used the SSD in a while and when I popped it in, the internet wasn't working. I believe something is getting in the way of port 80, but I can't figure out what. I have disabled all startup applications and all nonwindows services. The computer does not have bonjour. I have cleared history/cookies to no avail. I can't find anything suspicious in the running processes. I can't seem to turn off the windows antimalware process to test that, though.

Any ideas?

I decided to run hijack this and found two BHO's. It's funny that on my new install that I used a handful of times, I have adware, but on this install that's been going for years, I have nothing. Oh well. So I had "Crossrider" and "Coupon Companion". I removed all traces of both, yet still no go. It looks like this managed to install itself on 12/2... which had to be damn close to the date that I bought the SSD, however, I had internet activity as recent as 12/26. Hello there.
I recently changed my settings for Windows Update, to let it check for updates, but now it always asks for a restart.
I tried almost every solution, i don't know what to do, i need SP1 for SQL Server 2012 to work, but it's not installing. I even downloaded the update from microsoft's website, but the installer fails.
I tried almost every method i found :
- setting it to never update, then setting it back to automatic
- deleting the registry keys from the Update-er
- deleting the files in SoftwareDistribution
- trying FixIt (normal and aggressive mode)
- trying the FixIt method manually
- renaming the edb.log file in the SoftwareDistribution folder via safe-mode.

I can't give you an error number, since it doesn't show one. It just asks for a restart, but nothing happens. I really need this fixed...

I have an Inspiron 3650 that was bought on the 23rd February 2016 (it arrived very promptly a day later and I set it up on the 25th). I also bought the speakers with it (the Dell AC411 Wireless Speaker System). The software that came installed on the machine was Cyberlink PowerDVD v12, and the operating system is Windows 10.

I have several problems:

The first:

From the moment I switched it on, I've had problems with the DVD drive. If I switched a DVD, I would have to shut down the machine and switch it back on for it to recognise the new disc. Not even a reboot would work, it had to be a full shut down.

Today, the DVD has randomly stopped reading the disc at all, and Cyberlink won't stay open for more than a few seconds, if I can open it at all. I do not know what has suddenly kicked this off, but I tried downloading other video player software (such as VLC) and none of them can read the disc. I did eventually manage to keep Cyberlink open just long enough for it to claim there was something open that needs to be closed, but nothing stayed visible long enough for me to read what it was - so I don't know what that message said. The only way I got that message at all was by clicking on Computer, going into the DVD drive and clicking on one of the video files directly to try and play it. It didn't play, I got the message instead, didn't have time to read it, and cannot replicate the scenario to try and read it again.
My computer is two months old, and I n... Read more

ASUS Notebook G60Vx Series

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
A few days ago my internet suddenly stopped working. I plugged in the ethernet cord and everything worked fine. Checking the properties in the device manager showed the device was working properly, I also tried resetting it to make sure it was enabled but it did not work.

Upon troubleshooting, the "Windows Network Diagnostic" said the problems was that the Wireless adapter was not turned on. Using the switch on the front of the laptop as well as the function keys does nothing. Usually a graphic pops up showing if the WiFi is on or off, changinging transparent to show the WiFi is disabled. Now when I turn the switch on it always appears transparent, effectively going from off to off

So I know the computer reads both the function keys and the switch on the front but both methods never actually turns the adapter on. I just finished a system restore and nothing has changed

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

A:Wifi not working on ASUS laptop, LAN working fine

Maybe the switch or adapter is defective. Some other ideas ...

Do you have an ASUS utility to also turn the wireless on/off? (I have an HP utility on one of my laptops that will individually control the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if the physical switch is on.)

In Device Manager right click on the adapter - Properties - Advanced tab. Sometimes there is a Property in there that allows turning the adapter on/off.

If the card is easily accessible through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace the card several times to fix any potential looseness or corrosion problems.

I have sort of an odd problem. I have a desktop computer that is connect to the internet wirelessly. Everything works fine there. I also have an xbox360 connected to the desktop via an Ethernet cable. I use this connection primarily to stream movies from my computer to the xbox. Today in the middle of a movie the movie stopped playing and gave me an error saying xbox isn't connected to the computer any more.
I checked the physical connection and everything was fine. I looked at my desktop (running windows xp) and noticed my LAN connection wasn't properly running. It said I have limited or no connectivity. So I tried repairing it, renewing it, disabling and re-enabling it. Nothing worked. In fact I get this error: "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

I also noticed I have a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, if that helps at all:
EDIT: Forgot to mention I also reinstalled the driver for the LAN card.

I have W7, 6 memory 650 HD, quad core -2 year old hd computer. ISP CABLE 12 m speed - On net speed tests , i get 10 to 20 download speeds. I am using 335 g with, with 249g showing as still available for a total 584. .

COMPUTER is running very very slow on net and non- net, with occasional hang ups that last sometimes last as much as a minute. The Hang ups are more frequent on non- net and I sometimes get the no responding.

We checked everything that could be using extra resources and it made very little differences .

We discovered one potential problem and I seek your advice on this matter-- In the info drive properties , The box that says says " COMPRESS THIS DRIVE TO SAVE DISC SPACE " was CHECKED.

A friend said that if the g's are uncompressed , my 335g could possibly be double and the drive is overloaded causing the computer to run slow everywhere- He suggests that I just go buy a new 2 tb hd and move all my stuff over and keep the existing hd as a partial back up.
I am extremely hesitant to remove the check box for fear of what could happen.

I do happen to have everything backed up via external hd including the Operating system , but putting that in motion is something that I would like to avoid.

Anyway, I sure would appreciate your advice on this mess.

Sincerely,,,, Ralph

Check my signature on the link on how to safely "Optimize" windows 7. Also, this tutorial may help with any problems:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (by Brink)

In addition, as the optimization tutorial suggested, the more programs you have installed, the higher the chance you will have for slowdowns. Only have a single antivirus installed at any one time, and please oh please say that it isn't Avast!, McAfee, or AVG -.-

For the networking problem, go to the wireless adapter card's manufacturer's website and look for any updates to the driver software. If there are, download it, uninstall the driver on your computer, and then install the new driver.

Check your add ons and make sure they are not swamping your computer with slowdowns. Disable any you do not want or use.

After the removal of the virus, my pc started to see "this copy of windows is not genuine" windows 7". But how could that be when windows 7 was already installed on the pc when I bought it? Anyway, some how I managed to get the message to go away until recently. My pc had been slow and taking a while to load at at startup but its recently gotten worse. It sometimes takes about an hour for me to get to the login screen. Also, once the pc loads and I am able to use it, it seems like something is running in the background that completely stalls the pc for about 10-15 minutes. It then goes back to normal. I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files.
This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months.  But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup?
What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months?  Are these retained in File History or deleted?

About a month ago I noticed that the laptop was running significantly slower than usual and the cursor was jumping wildly all over the place when I try to type anything, that the Web pages I try to load would freeze up a lot, and that the machine would just shutdown and reboot itself while I was in the middle of doing something. It has a 1 terabyte hard drive that is nowhere near capacity. I have also never dropped or otherwise damaged this laptop.  Since the past 2 days the laptop refused to boot up at all. It slowly flashes the Acer logo and the preparing automatic repair message on the screen then it just goes black and does nothing. I know that these things aren't really made to last too long, but these laptops were not cheap, and 8 months is very disappointing. I am hoping that someone can help me to get it working again. Ive tried all the generic interventions i see posted on these forums and none of them work. Any ideas?

Okay first of all I would like to say I have been having on going issues for months to almost a year... I have tried everything I can think of... Including wiping harddrives to DoD standards with dban, gparted etc.... I have tried monitering my connections with wireshark...  I have tried several differet anti- (virus and malware) programs including paid version of kaspersky, malwarebytes, bitdefender, eset.....

I have switched ISPs , changed hardware, thrown away devices including cell phones and laptops... It seems that they were also backdoored into several of my devices and were using several different methods to continue to spread and infect other devices.. These devices include android, iphone, ipod, ipad, netbook, laptop, smart tv and even my dvd player (java).. I have tried to ask for help and seek help for this and no one can figure it out or think this cant be real.
I have now thrown out all laptops, and all phones at the same time and started from scratch but having issues on a brand new laptop... I am not sure this is the same issue as before... Hi, I have a Compaq Presario V5000 which I only bought a few months back. It was fine at first but I had a little incident where because someone switched off the laptop by pressing the power button during startup the "My documents" folder became corrupt. Now I dont know if thats the cause but recently it has been running quiet slow. It doesnt freeze but just just takes a while to run/load things. Just yesterday I reinstalleed XP and it is running a bit more smoothly but is still slow compared to what it was. I guess it cant be Spyware/malware or virus because the hard drive has just been formatted (during reinstallation of the OS) I've also downloaded all the drivers for everything i could think of. Is there anything else I should check?

I've attached a full report from everest to start with.

I just want' a clear answer if there is one.
How to make DisplayPort work on (OEM) Win 7 Pro/x64, HP Probook 6470b.

Here is the situation: I don't want 3 displays... heck I just want one to work via Displayport - it did for 5 months...
1. i needed external display (only DVI-D Monitor available) .
2. i got DisplayPort to DVI-D cable: DisplayPort hooked to DVI-D input of SamsungSyncmaster 245B worked great!
(up to 1920x1080: no problem: closed the lid an auto.got 1920x1080 on external monitor):
3. I took laptop and hooked it to TV: DisplayPort->HDMI: no problems...
4. One day it "decided" to stop working... and I don't think the DisplayPort is broken: something else is (according to all troubles people go through I would say I was very lucky to get away with this: e.i. getting the pisture from DisplayPort..) - in fact it's not broken: when tested on Ubuntu it works, so HW is ok.
5. I reinstalled intelHD 4000 drivers to new ones (v.dec2014) - even though the things worked with old one (v.jul2013), going to restore points,...
6. Tried...well almost all there is to be found on internet (where else?) - nothing works, though DisplayPort works with no problem on ubuntu (makes you think...doesn't it?)
7. Tried DisplayPort to VGA^ - vga monitor not even detected, nothing... as with dvi monitors, or hdmi (TV)
(^ which works perfectly (i'm "lucky" i guess) on other laptop (yes, hp proobook just year or two older than the one in question: with ... Read more

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:  List last 10 Event Viewer log  List Installed Programs  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy,  taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.
Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):
Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot. You will see the following prompt:

hey guys
so i finally decided to install win7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)

the annoying this is...is that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all unplugged..in the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.

my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.

does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway

this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense :-/

A:installs fine, runs fine, reboots..not fine

Did you delete/recreate the partition? If you haven't then do this first and try re-installing Win 7. I wouldn't recommend removing the watermark as that can have unpredictable results.
