Q: Hello , my HP laptop (just 9 months old) suddenly stopped ch...

My laptop suddenly stopped charging when plugged in, and only charges when it is switched off. Also the space bar stopped functioning. I bought it 9 months back and it's still under the warranty period., but they said they will be able to fix the space bar problem only and not the charging problem and for that I would have to pay up. And the charging port that they would change would be under warranty only for 2 months, which means as per HP service center it could stop working again!!!!. I'm a doctor and I live alone. I've hardly used my laptop and no one else uses my laptop. I read somewhere that this was a problem faced by many people using HP laptops. This could be a manufacturing defect. I don't think I should be charged for hardly using my HP laptop that has an inherent defect. You are looting your customers. Kindly revert back.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can you boot into safe mode? Press F8 several times before it gets to the point it hangs.
If you can make it into safe mode you can try a system restore.

I have a Compaq 6715B, and yesterday while I was browsing the web, my wireless stopped working, it gave me a notification in the "Safely Remove Hardware" thing near the clock, "The blah blah blah Network adapter can now be safely removed".
The wireless hasn't been working ever since.
The troubleshooting that I've done so far are:
Make sure the wireless button on the computer is enabled, it will not enable, it is a "touch" button, and it lights up blue when it's working, it won't even respond to my touch, the other buttons next to it do work. So that's not helping at all.
I have two of the exact same laptop, I switched the wireless card that's installed INSIDE the laptop, not a wireless card that just slides in the side, one that's under the bottom panel, I swapped them, uninstalled the driver, and connected via. ethernet to reinstall the drivers. No dice.
It's not showing up in the device manager or anything..

[edit] I'm running Windows XP Professional, SP3

I'm lost.

Help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have an older Dell Inspiron 5100 that's been rock solid since day one.

I recently transferred all my music from my PC to my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex so I could organize my files while I was out of town on business. When I got to my hotel and plugged the Seagate into the USB port the laptop would not recognize it.
There's two USB ports, one of the USB ports does nothing at all when I plug the drive in (not even a 'Ding-Dong' sound). The other port at least responds but still not recognized. By "responds" I mean Windows responds with a "Dunn..." sound; not the happy two tone sound of a device actually being recognized and available, just a "Dunn..."

I've used this drive before on this laptop on several occasions so I know it's compatible. I also came home and plugged to drive back into the PC to see if the drive itself responds. It does, and all files are there and happy.

Also, when plugged into the non-responsive USB slot the light on the drive blinks a couple times, the platters spool up for 15 or so seconds then goes out.
When plugged into the other USB slot (the one that goes "Dunn...") the light comes on and stays on and the platters spin untill I unplug the device. But it's still not recognized.

Nothing shows up under the Disc Management tool either.

Normal USB thumb drives work normal still.

My Dell laptop was working just fine a couple of days ago and was due for maintenance check since it's been over a year since I bought the laptop and just wanted to check if there are any problems or if it needs cleaning of some sort. Sent it to the shop as to where I bought it. Since they were quite busy and unable to get to check into my laptop, I decided to get m laptop back after 2 days being left in the shop. This is not my first dell laptop and I figured this would last as long as my 1st laptop with dell which lasted for about 5-6 yrs. The only reason we stopped using my prev laptop was because someone stole it.
When I got home, my laptop would not turn on anymore. I would not blame the shop since I have been with them for all these years. And the technician I go to has been the same guy ever since. When I had him check my laptop and done some troubleshooting, he adviced me that he would need to send my laptop to manila for checking. After a couple of weeks, he told me that they cannot fix my laptop due to a chipset was damaged. Is there anyway that the laptop would again by replacing it or is it too costly to have it fixed?
This laptop is less than 2 yrs old. My first laptop which lasted longer had many complications like it got wet, the battery died and fell off a table 2x but still worked just fine. My 2nd laptop looks good as new and had no damages at all. I have not done anything wrong with it. The damages on the 1st laptop was due to my younger siblings but ... Read more

A:Dell Laptop suddenly stopped working

Hi CHOA18,
I would need more info about the issue.
What is the exact system model? When you state the system does not turn on, do you see any leds come on when the power button is pressed? Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My Toshiba laptop has been connected wirelessly to my Comcast router without issue until earlier today when I noticed that most websites timed out and couldn't be accessed. I can go to Facebook, Google, and YouTube, but can't access my Hotmail account or other sites I use on a regular basis. I've tried everything I could find on the Internet, including flushing my DNS settings, changing them, scanning for malware, uninstalling McAfee, etc. and the only thing that has gotten me back on track is connecting directly to the Internet with an Ethernet cable, which is what I'm using now.

The only thing I can think of that's different is that I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple days ago. Otherwise, nothing has changed. Can someone please help me diagnose this annoying problem?

So here's the deal, my GF's 3 year old HP laptop, a Pavilion dv6000 series, suddenly stopped booting correctly yesterday, every time it boots, a message appears saying:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3. Click "Repair your computer".

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \windows\system32\config\system

Status: 0x000014c

Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt."

If I press enter, it then shows the OS I want to load, when I select Windows 7 Home Premium, the same message appears.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have tried Repair your computer?

Boot up using the Startup disk CD or Windows 7 DVD. (not the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disk) If you have a Netbook, you will need a CD/DVD drive.
Make sure no USB drives are plugged in.

Do a Strartup Repair:

Hi, I have a Windows 8.1 Lenovo notebook and a Toshiba Satellite Windows 7 laptop, and a mouse, lol.

Well, the mouse has been working fine for 4 months, but suddenly, the mouse has stopped working in my Toshiba laptop. As I didn't know how to fix it, and as Toshiba laptop was full of crap, I've just formatted its HDD and made a clean install of Windows 8.1 and updated everything.

After that, I've plugged the mouse in and the same error: it connects and disconnects all the time. Sometimes, if I'm in the Device Manager refreshing the devices, mysteriously it start to work, but just for a few minutes. Sometimes, and just sometimes, the Device Manager shows that there's an unknown device connected to a USB port that is not working. The error code is 43.

That mouse works perfectly in my other notebook, the lenovo. I've connected a different mouse to the Toshiba and it works perfectly, in any port. So that makes me say this:

-The mouse is not broken, cause it works in my other laptop
-Toshiba's USB ports work nice cause any other device I connect works seamlessly
-After a clean install, it can't be a software problem

So... what the hell is going on?

A:Mouse suddenly stopped working in just 1 laptop

Sound like a driver problem.

Did you do the clean Windows install from the Lenovo recovery partition and install all the system specific drivers? If not, visit the Lenovo Support site. Unlike some laptops, my Lenovo Yoga 13 didn't come with an automatic driver update program. You have to download their drivers and such.

They have changed their support site several times so now it's very easy to get the right drivers.

Hey guys,

Earlier today I performed a windows update on my Acer Aspire 5600 laptop, and after the restart my wireless stopped working. The update was an optional hardware one for my ethernet port software apparently, and I've no idea if it has caused the problem or not.

I connect to a Belkin 54g wireless router, and usually when I turn the laptop on it automatically connects fine. Now however, I get a red cross through the icon saying it's disconnected or a 'Limited or no connectivity' warning message. I tried looking up the problem using the details button when this box comes up, and it seems in the list of things such as IP, DNS settings etc the last three items have no numbers next to them. The thing is, I can't even pick up any wireless networks anymore. I use the search function and the laptop finds nothing, even though I know my wireless is on and working efficiantly.

It seems to me like my wireless adapter in the laptop is disabled, even though it isn't. I've tried all I can think of, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
- Lee

I've had a Lenovo Ideapad Y40-70 for a month or so now and, although it worked this morning, it suddenly stopped turning on. When I push the power button, the light on the power button, the battery light, and the power light will come on white for a few seconds, and then nothing. It won't even boot to BIOS. I had the Lenovo logo show up for a fraction of a second like twice, but that was about it. I tried opening it up and taking out/putting back in the battery, and that didn't work. Nor did letting it sit and charge for a few hours as was recommended on another website.

Edit: I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. Correct me if I'm in the wrong board.

We have a wireless router on our home PC so that my dad can also access the internet on his work's laptop. This has never been a problem until this week, a colleage tampered with his settings so that he could access the network provided on a work course.

For some reason he now can't access our home internet. See screengrab - ours is the 3com one (note the padlock). What do I need to do to get his laptop working on our connection again? Cheers

A:Security suddenly stopped laptop wireless access

He regularly connects to all those different networks, or he just likes to collect profiles?

The first thing I would try is delete the 3com profile, disable encryption on the router, connect. If successful, again delete the 3com profile, re-enable encryption, and reconnect.

I have a HP laptop that runs windows Vista Premium, and is connected to an old Netgear wireless router, with which a broadband modem is connected to.

I have had this setup for nearly two years, and has been running great, including this morning. However tonight I cannot get the laptop to connect to the internet. I have had a couple of weird issues before, but restarting the computer has always fixed it. This time I have restarted everything, and I can access other computers on the network (not wireless) but not the internet.

Strangely, a hard drive that is connected to another computer that is shared for my backups is also not being found. (the other computer is plugged into the router through an ethernet cable, and internet works fine).

MSN, Explorer and the like will not connect to the net. Interestingly, when I start Mozilla Firefox, which loads a simplified google homepage, after a long long time, loads about hald way.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, I dont know what to do or try, because I havent seemed to change anything to stop it working. Any ideas I could try would be much appreciated.

It was kind of a curve ball, and a little unsettling, because I thought I had solved the problem. I think I've narrowed it down to my graphics card, since a lot of the recent BSODs point to it, but I'm not sure if it's because the drivers are bad, or if the card itself is bad (it's an Nvidia, and I thought that those cards are able to withstand gaming for several years, so I'm a little disheartened if it's a bad card).

OS: Windows 7
The original installed OS was Windows 7, I think (this is a used laptop)
My OS is a full retail version
Hardware around 4 years old
The OS was re-installed 6-8 months ago.

CPU: Intel Core i7 Q720 @ 1.6 GHz
Video card: Nvidia GeForce GTS 360M
Motherboard: I'm not sure, but I assume it's the original Asus version?
Power supply: Asus N193 85V
System Manufacturer: Asus
Model Number: G60JX
I'm hoping that this is maybe a driver problem, and not something serious like a defective card or maybe faulty RAM.

Thank you for reading this!

A:After a few months of no BSODs, it suddenly came back

Hello NocturnalSleep,

Various differemt bugchecks but they're all pointing to your GPU drivers of DirectX one way or another. I'd recommend uninstalling and reinstalling your nVidia video drivers and reinstalling the latest version. If you're already on the latest version, I'd recommend uninstalling and installing a previous version to the latest to be sure it's not a simple driver issue.

Hello all, I hope you experts can help me out with these BSOD's I'm getting lately.

Heres my problem,

When ever I watch a movie and press pause after an hour or so I get a BSOD, and this also happens when I listen to music files for a while or just watching some flash videos on the internet.

I didn't have this before so its only been recently, I've been running windows 7 64bit for months now, always stable. I wouldn't suspect my hardware to be the problem as I've all ready looked in some minidumps with Win Debugger but I'm clueless on how to read them and find the cause. I've also seen some differences in the BSOD's its not always the same cause. Yet its always when I do the same thing when it happens or so it seems..

Here's my hardware,
GA-P55-UD4 - Intel Core I5 @ 3.9ghz 1.312v - GeIL DDR3 2x2gigs cas 7 1600mhz @ 1488mhz T1 2:8 7-7-7-24-54 1.65v - 260GTX 55nm 216 896mb @700mhz/1404/1200 SLI - Asus Xonar DX - CM Real Power M700

Trust me its stable, I've ran countless of tests before, and the minidumps always blame "vista's" drivers. (quite funny how windows 7 is actually vista under the hood, a bit modified of course)

Anyways I've included the files that are required in order to let you experts figure it out. I hope that its enough, I could also include some dumpfiles if those are required.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad T460S in Nov 2016. This is supposed to be their premium business laptop range. I uses it daily, simple computer work. Lately it starts to have problem hibernating and waking from sleep/hibernation. Yesterday the steel left hinge suddenly broke. I contacted the Lenovo Support today and they replied : The three year international Warranty does not cover the hinges. It's like you buy a new car, then the hinge of your drive breaks and it's not covered by warranty? What kind of logic is that? They want to charge me for the repair. I am getting a quote from them, this is probably the last Thinkpad I will ever buy from Lenovo! I am getting a quote from them. I wonder if we can get the part myself and attempt a self repair. But this is deeply disappointing!

I have 2 PCs, one an HP laptop, the other an ASUS desktop, that are both pretty well configured almost identically, same programs installed, same settings and tweaks.

I?m running the latest version of 8GadgetPack on both and had no problems at all for months. (I only use the MS clock, calendar, and weather gadgets.) Then a couple weeks ago they started freezing on my laptop. I noticed the clock was almost 45 minutes behind one day. I tried to double-click it and then right-click on it and then tried the other 2 gadgets. All 3 were frozen. I closed all 3 down with the task manager and re-opened them. They ran fine for about 5 minutes then froze again. (The clock stopping is the give-away.)

I did a system clean with CCleaner and then rebooted. The gadgets loaded and worked for about 5 mins again and then froze up again. After a few days of trying to solve this I decided ?screw it? and went to uninstall it. I saw a ?Repair/Reset? option on the uninstall screen and decided to try that first. It worked, and the gadgets started running normally again and continued to do so for a few weeks. I thought the problem was fixed. Today, out of nowhere, the freezing started again (I noticed the clock had stopped)! I tried the reset again, which didn?t work this time. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still freezing. Now I?m at a loss.

This whole time on my other PC, these same gadgets having been running flawlessly. As I said, both systems are running the same version of 8GadgetPack... Read more

For starters .....

*You could clean up your Temporary Files.

Start > Run > %temp% > ok > Organize > Select all > Organize > Delete > You may be asked to "Try again" or " Skip"

*Run System File Check [SFC] scan on the computer which may replace the missing or corrupt files.

Type ?cmd? in start search box.
Right click on ?cmd? in the Program list and then select the option Run as Administrator.

{If you are prompted for an Administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.}

Type the following command, and then press ENTER

I bought 2 of these laptops from Evine. The model is the E5-573T-5521 Intel core is with Windows 10.  I use this laptop mostly for my social media and email and to do my research papers. I set it up so that it powers down after an hour of non use. About a month ago I noticed that the laptop was running significantly slower than usual and the cursor was jumping wildly all over the place when I try to type anything, that the Web pages I try to load would freeze up a lot, and that the machine would just shutdown and reboot itself while I was in the middle of doing something. It has a 1 terabyte hard drive that is nowhere near capacity. I have also never dropped or otherwise damaged this laptop.  Since the past 2 days the laptop refused to boot up at all. It slowly flashes the Acer logo and the preparing automatic repair message on the screen then it just goes black and does nothing. I know that these things aren't really made to last too long, but these laptops were not cheap, and 8 months is very disappointing. I am hoping that someone can help me to get it working again. Ive tried all the generic interventions i see posted on these forums and none of them work. Any ideas?

How to make DisplayPort work on (OEM) Win 7 Pro/x64, HP Probook 6470b.

Here is the situation: I don't want 3 displays... heck I just want one to work via Displayport - it did for 5 months...
1. i needed external display (only DVI-D Monitor available) .
2. i got DisplayPort to DVI-D cable: DisplayPort hooked to DVI-D input of SamsungSyncmaster 245B worked great!
(up to 1920x1080: no problem: closed the lid an auto.got 1920x1080 on external monitor):
3. I took laptop and hooked it to TV: DisplayPort->HDMI: no problems...
4. One day it "decided" to stop working... and I don't think the DisplayPort is broken: something else is (according to all troubles people go through I would say I was very lucky to get away with this: e.i. getting the pisture from DisplayPort..) - in fact it's not broken: when tested on Ubuntu it works, so HW is ok.
5. I reinstalled intelHD 4000 drivers to new ones (v.dec2014) - even though the things worked with old one (v.jul2013), going to restore points,...
6. Tried...well almost all there is to be found on internet (where else?) - nothing works, though DisplayPort works with no problem on ubuntu (makes you think...doesn't it?)
7. Tried DisplayPort to VGA^ - vga monitor not even detected, nothing... as with dvi monitors, or hdmi (TV)
(^ which works perfectly (i'm "lucky" i guess) on other laptop (yes, hp proobook just year or two older than the one in question: with ... Read more

three days ago, everything was fine. i have a windows vista pc, 32 bit, gateway dx441x. it has a wireless adapter. the other pc in my house is a windows xp gateway that's plugged into my linksys router. the modem also plugs into the router. ive had it set up this was since june and havent had any problems.

three days ago, i turned off my vista pc and it said "installing updates", which it does from time to time. this has never created a problem before. well the next day i could not get onto my network. every time i tried to connect, it said "windows cannot find any networks". i clicked diagnose the problem, it returned with another variation on windows cannot find any networks in your area. both my pcs are desktops, they have not moved an inch. the computer hooked to the router is still working and able to use the internet. i unplugged the adapter, plugged it back in, rebooted, nothing worked. at that point i decided maybe my adapter was broken so i bought a new one. i installed the software for it first, then plugged in the adapter. same problem - can't find any networks! i called linksys, their advice was to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. i went back to the old adapter, since i had ruled that out as the problem. uninstalled the driver under device manager. it went away. put the driver cd back in, went to install, it said this is already installed do you want to continue. i clicked yes, followed the prompts. (i dont know why it said the... Read more

Hello all,

First off, I am a nerd, my wife is a nerd, we have six computers in the house, running windows / linux, and who knows what, 2 tablets, 2 cell phones, ps3, wii, and a sony web tv.

Everything can connect to my router with no problem.

My 2 month old Sony Vaio, which I use primarily for mobile web development and graphic arts, was really a wonderful machine.

on 01/08/12, I purchased a wacom bamboo tablet, installed everything, and was having a great time sketching things on the computer tablet configuration, when after bout three hours of playing, suddently, I was dropped from wireless connectivity with no reason.

I checked with my wife, who was watching a netflix movie and happily computing on the other side of the couch, and she was connected. So I restarted my computer, everything came up fine, connected to the internet, and after about 60-90 seconds of normal internet happiness, I lost my connection again.

For the last 24 hours ish, this computer has been rebooted, restarted, the router has been restarted and unplugged, I have reset everything, uninstalled the tablet (It doesnt make sense to me how a usb drawing/mouse device may have any effect on my wireless, but hey... at the end of the rope)

And nothing works. Every other device connects just fine.

So, here I am, fellow nerds.

Anyone have any idea why in the heck my computer would run the internet over a wifi connection for only an apx 60 second run?

I need to conquer this,... Read more

My DVD-RW, after 4 years of faithful service, has suddenly stopped being able to write data on blank DVD-R's. It reads data fine, but writing is suddenly a problem and it says disk inexcessable. Coincidently, or not, it just started with a new batch of DVD-Rs. They are an exact match to the ones I have been using before and I even went out and bought a new batch, but they don't work either.

I have been getting error messages previously with my "Drag & Drop CD -burner". I believe that it said something like needing to update the driver's firmware???

I run Windows XP on a Sony system. The drive info is as follows (don't know the specific manufacturer though):

Can this be fixed? or is it time for a new DVD-RW?

UPDATE: I just updated (supposedly) the drivers Firmware using rpc1.org. However, when I try to write to the disks, it gives me a "Error Writing Disk" message.

Hi, one day I started my laptop and the SSD in it (MZ-7PC256D) suddenly stopped working.

What options do I have to get it working, or atleast recover the data in it.

I tried putting it in another laptop or checking in BIOS, it's simply not getting detected.

The SSD gets super hot when I connect it to the laptop and start it.

A:SSD suddenly stopped working.

Not to be harsh, but when you get it working again thru what ever means you might have to do, make an image on a flash drive or what ever you choose and then, if the SSD has failed completely, install a new one and use the image to bring you back to the time of your last backup.

Good morning everyone, and a Merry Christmas!

I'm going to try to make this as brief as possible, while still including every detail I possibly can.

Today I received a few cool gadgets for Christmas that I wanted to install on my PC. I realized I was short on USB slots, so I tried to install a secondary set of USB slots. I plugged it in wrong twice in a row, due to me misreading my motherboard. After a few restarts, my computer wouldn't boot. I attempted to clear my CMOS, which didn't help. I then turned off my power supply's switch, then turned it back on. After I did this my PC booted, but I was fronted with a boot screen that said the CMOS settings were wrong. I was confused as to what this meant, and my options were F1 to Bios, or F2 to default settings and continue. After booting, my Razer Deathadder quit working. Now, at this point, I'm not sure why exactly I did this, but I reinstalled Windows. I am using Windows XP Pro -32 bit. After reinstalling all my drivers, I realized that NONE of my USB ports were working. My keyboard, mouse, webcam, nothing worked. I updated my Windows, BIOS, drivers, everything is new.

In the screen for Hardware, all my Root USB kits have exclamation points, and it says they aren't functioning properly. I have NO idea what the hell is going on, and if anyone has any ideas or comments, please please share them with me.

I'm thinking that when I reset the CMOS perhaps something malfunctioned on my mainboard a... Read more
