Q: Unable to share drives: error 0x00000154

Win7 sp1 x64

When I try to enable sharing of partitions (drive letters) I get this error. I tried it on different drive letters, but the same thing. I searched for this using the error message but no meaningful results.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have 2 machines connected via my router/hub (wired). One is running Windows 8.1 and the other Windows 7. Previously I had them sharing perfectly until I did a reinstall of Windows 8 (upgraded to Windows 8.1). I get this message on both machines whilst trying to access shared drives (permissions enabled to read, write, modify for all users):

I have a local account on the windows 8.1 as per previous installation. I have checked all the usual sharing settings and they are the same as in the previous working installation on both machines. I have left the homegroup and created a new one on the windows 8 machine and rejoined on the windows 7 machine all to no avail. I have read posts here but none seem to help. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Unable to share drives across home network

OK - I now manage to access a shared drive on my Windows 7 PC from Windows 8.1 - read write etc. all good ( found that encryption setting on Windows 8.1 was wrong .
However cannot do the same for the Windows 8.1 machine from the Windows 7. Can't see what I am doing wrong?

Hello,
I have 3 interfaces running Win7 on a company network with 3 network share drives on the server.
These interfaces are part of WORKGROUP.  Mapped drives work while on WORKGROUP settings.
When changing to company domain, drives are no longer mapped with an error 1909.
Tried disabled Windows firewall but this did not help.  Also disconnected drives and tried remapping them to the interface.
Still getting error 1909.  When I return settings to WORKGROUP network status, share drives are accessible.
There are 3 other interfaces running Win7 on the network that I switched to the domain and were able to connect to drives.
Please advise with any new options.
Thank you,
Troy

I have a unusual case where I need to setup two mapped network drives as two different users to the same share location. When I attempt to map the second drive after inputting the user name and password the system goes on its merry way for a few seconds
and then returns me back to the username/password input.
If I change the second mapped network drive to use the IP address the two shares work happily. If I manipulate the host file and point two paths to the same address then I can also work around this problem. However, I would simply like to know why I am blocked
from setting two mapped drives to point to the same share with different credentials?
e.g.
TestFolder on TestServer is shared to TestUser1 & TestUser2 where the IP of TestServer is 192.168.0.2.
Case1
If I map S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser2 it will not work.
Case2
Mapping S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\192.168.0.2\TestFolder using TestUser2 it will work and I can access the folder as the two different users.
Case 3
If I map S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1 it will also work (but I am accessing S: & T: as the same user).
Why do cases 2 + 3 work, but case 1 does not?

Greetings,
I have an odd issue.. a user reports that they are unable to access a network shared folder from their PC. Here is what I have gathered so far:
-The network share is from their PC located at C:\SQL2014. The share name is SQL2014. Their hostname for this example is "ABC".
-If I attempt to connect to the share from the user's PC ABC to \\ABC\SQL2014 I get the generic error:
  "Windows cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014
You do not have permission to access \\ABC\SQL2014. Contact your network administrator to request access."
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's IP \\192.168.1.140\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's FQDN at  \\ABC.domain.com\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I map ABC\SQL2014 as a drive letter, I can access it.
-Connecting to this share works fine from any other PC other than ABC.
-I've confirmed the error is affecting any profile old or new on ABC, which means it is a PC-wide issue on ABC.
-If I share C:\SQL2014 as ANY OTHER NAME OTHER THAN SQL2014, I can access it. As in if I share C:\SQL2014 with the share name SQL2014a, I can access \\ABC\SQL2014a.
-Deleted the share and recreated - same issue.
-Created C:\Test and shared it as SQL2014, cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014. It is NOT an issue with the actual SQL2014 folder.

From internet searches I've found the following solutions do not affect my case:
-Clearing CSC/Offline cache (most common working solution)
-C... Read more

Subject
Cannot access NAS Drives
Cannot access network attached storage
Error accessing NAS
\\Share\Folder is not accessible
Error code: 0X80070035 The network path was not found

Hi all,
I fixed a stubborn networking issue and hopefully someone else can benefit from all the frustration I have experienced over the last few days.

Some background. This was a workgroup network not a domain client/server.
Also, Windows HomeGroup wizards were not used - just accounts and passwords.
I have five NAS boxes for storage and backup. These NAS boxes use CIFS or SMB file systems. IP address are assigned through DHCP. It is a very simple yet secure workgroup net. Everything was OK then it hit the fan.
I installed a new router after the old one failed. I powered down the entire network, cabled up and configured the new router. On my old Vista notebook PC all five NAS devices were OK. In Vista, Windows Explorer, I could access all the folders and files
on all the NAS boxes.
However on all the other systems, Windows 7 or Windows 8, I would get errors. In Windows Explorer I could see "\\MyNAS\Share\" but cannot navigate to it.

I would get an error:
"\\MyNAS\Share\ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The specified network name is no longer available."
Or
"Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found"
Another symptom of the error: I could not access the NAS adm... Read more

VBox involved?  There are some comments about problems with memory compression.
I don't see any NVMe drivers so you are running the PM951 in SATA mode?  I don't think the Samsung Magician software will install for that configuration.

Windows has no problem setting the sharing rights though,

One of these PC's is my media player. I have a folder on each driver called Movies that contains different movies.

Is there anyway I can combine the Movies folders contents on each drive to show 1 Movies network share?

I understand symbolic links don't work on a network.

A:Multiple drives to share

You can set up a Homegroup and share the library's then add folders from different drives or other library's on other machines to the Video's library folder and they will all show up in the Video's Library.

That's pretty much what Library's are about.

Homegroup - Create - Windows 7 Forums

Hi,

Have Win 10 x64 latest updates.

For some strange reason, more than likely a MS update night before last, I lost all contact with all computers on my wired LAN. I have tried virtually everything to get them back up but to no avail.
All the usual suspects like same workgroup, etc have been checked. I did not have a Homegroup.

I have decided to create a Homegroup and join them all. This has worked but only have access to Media, Pictures etc.

I want to have access to all the drives and folders on all boxes.

I have done the sharing on Properties of each drive but still cannot see them.

I can ping all boxes okay and all Discovery is on

Hope for some guidance please.

Hello, I have the following office setup:

7 computers connected to a router with Atnt.

2 windows 7 professional. 1 windows 7 home. rest are XP professional.

We originally set up the home windows 7 PC(server2) and all were able to map the shared drive. However, the next day, when the machine had gone to sleep, all the mapped drive connections were lost.

Now, no one can map the drive.

I have tried ipconfig/release-renew to flush out Ip conflicts. I have rebooted. I have tried mapping with IP addresses directly. I have upgraded firmware for router... no luck. I cannot even ping the server2 machine. times out...

YET, it appears in our network listing...?

I am well and truely stumped. this worked day one, but ever since the shared machine server2 slept and switched off its hard drives, no one has been able to map the shared folder since.

ANY ideas at all?

A:Cannot share / map drives windows 7 / xp

Well, first off, Windows 7 Home will only allow a maximum of 5 connections at one time.

If you can't ping the "server", you have a firewall problem, start by disabling all the firewalls.

I'm trying to turn a desktop into a media server. So far I was able to set up VNC, (s)FTP, SSH. All I need now is to

1. Be able to access it from anywhere on the internet, and port forwarding doesn't seem to work...

2. Be able to share entire drives as a network drive. One as 'Backup' and one as 'Media'. AKA, have it show up under "ip/backup" or "ip/media", if that makes sense. If possible, have the Media one shared as a media server, and the other as just a network drive.

Do some reading on how to setup your networking with My Network places, and setting up the sharing mode in VISTA. It will work, but takes too long to post here.
You start by setting up the network, file sharing, and printer sharing on the VISTA Machine, the setup the WXP.

I need to add a DVD drive to my PC but I read somewhere recently that you should avoid fitting drives that will share the same IDE at the same time on the same IDE channel.Like if you want to backup or copy info on one drive to the other. So far so good but then my recollection gets sketchy as to the way ahead. Is it OK to fit the second optical (DVD) drive as a slave to the harddrive instead, ie on seperate IDE channel to the other optical drive?I'm concerned that this will slow up the search times of the hard drive, or being as the optical DVD drive is only slaved to the hard drive will the search times be unnaffected?
Well thats my (hazy) recollection as to the way ahead , is it good?
Thanks

I am wanting to use 2 usb drives for backup. i am using one drive at a time and when one backs up i swap it with another so that i can take one offsite. does anyone know how to assign 2 drives with the same drive letter. Please help me!!!

A:making 2 usb drives share the same drive letter

You don't have to assign them drive letters. I have a number of clients that I do exactly what you want to do (off-site back-up we call it). Plug one in and note what letter it is assigned. As long as you don't keep plugging in device after device, it will always get the next available drive letter.

You are better off assigning your other HDD's that are fixed into your PC drive letters, leaving your USB HDD's to always take the next available letter (which is common behaviour, if nothing is assigned E:, it will get E: ).

We have a small home network, 4 computers, running XP Professional. We can share all drives across the network but we can not access those ‘shared’ drives. No error message is displayed, rather when you click on a shared drive nothing happens. The computer emits a beep sound – the same sound you get when you make an error.

When we create a PGP file off of a drive which can not be accessed and then open that PGP file and share a directory from the PGP it can be accessed.

Other files or directories on the inaccessible drive can not be accessed. The only point of access is the PGP file once it has been opened and shared.

It makes no difference whether the drive is external or not.

We have admin rights
Simple file sharing is off
We’re running NTFS
CACLS shows that we have full rights of files on the inaccessible drives
Internet works fine
The network functions perfectly except for this problem

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Hello,

Firstly I apologise because I know there is so much written about this subject. However at the same time, when one cannot find the solution after literally hours, one must get help! I have thrown the towel in as they say, put the white flag up and here I am..

I have 4 PC's all with Win 7 Pro. I have access to web via cable via a CG3000 router.

All boxes belong to same named 'Workgroup'

Under Explorer/Network tree all boxes and drives can be seen.

All drives on all boxes are already Shared with small shared icons showing on drive's name in tree and all passwords are off.

All permissions are set for full use as I am the only one here who uses them.

Problem.

Whene evr I go to a drive on any box from any box, I get the dreaded ..

'Windows cannot access etc..

I have turned off, router, boxes and left and re created and joined a Homegroup but this only got me to the Public etc folders. I need to get to all boxes and all drives/folders.

It was hard in Dos and got easier thru 3.1 etc until it was a piece of cake in XP

Now it is a nightmare.

I was advided to not have a Homegroup so had all the PC's leave the Home Network. It does not exists anymore.

I have Googled and read all day but am still not clearer.

I still see all the folders in each box from every box but as soon as I click to see the files in the folders get the NO Access panel.

I can see and access all the Public User folders but not the drives and other folders.

Suddenly things are not working on my XP. When I try to type anything in a browser or Wordpad or anything else, the only thing that happens is some keys activate things in the menu, like 'h' brings up "help." The mouse is not working the same as before either, for example, double-clicking on a shortcut opens up a Properties box instead of starting the application.

Also, I noticed all my drives were marked to Share. When I changed this to 'Do not share,' I got a message saying this drive was set to share for a purpose (can't remember exactly what it said), and that after rebooting, it would return to normal. I rebooted, and it didn't.

This all seemed to happen after updating the virus defs for Microsoft Security Essentials. (I had not used the machine for a couple weeks, as I was out of town.) I noticed it took a really long time to update as well. I then ran a quick scan. I don't know if these effects happened before the scan or not.

Other things are not working: I can't use Restore to go back to an earlier configuration, and I can't seem to get it to boot to Safe Mode.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you!

The other computers I have are as follows: HP DV7-1025nr running Win Vista HP x64, HP DV9*something* running Win Vista HP x64, and another desktop wunning Windows XP Pro x32. When I try to access the networked drives from the other computers I get the error pictures below, When I check the 7 desktop the drives are shared the way they are suppose to (same as they've been for over a year now) but all of a sudden they can't be connected to by the other computers, as you can see in the picture the computer appears on the network but the externals can't connect to the desktop7, However I can connect from the desktop 7 to a shared folder on my laptop DV7...

Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking of installing W10 on a separate drive to my W7 OS to see if I am happy with it and do not want to risk my W7 which is behaving perfectly and I would like to keep it that way!

I would like to use my copy of Office 2010 on my new W10 drive and on my W7 drive, will this cause any hassles in use or with the registration?

A:Win7 and W10 dual boot. Instal Office 2010 on both drives or share?

Hi,
Best way to install 10 make sure you remove the 7 hdd or ssd during install
Office well that depends on the version
I had no issues running Office 2007 small business but it's retail disk I have it on all my machines 3 total now but also had it in win-10 on the same machine using 7 and 10tp

10 never saw 7 because the ssd 7 was on was never connected at the same time.
So it does depend on what type of version you have oem one install
Technically the same machine though :/

I have a wired internet connection in my building, we are all assigned an IP (mine is 172.16.0.33) , the gateway is 172.16.0.1. The .33 was assigned to my pc and I could share files with other people in the building. Now I added a wireless router (D-link dir600) I assigned the IP which was on my computer to the router(172.16.0.33) and my PC now had a 192.168.0.xx IP (Assigned by the router). I can still access the internet, but I cannot see my friends computer in my network place anymore. Please help.

While on Facebook recently I noticed that the site went a bit 'funny' for several seconds. Some images wouldn't load. Since then I've been unable to share music video links from YouTube to Facebook with the video clip thumbnail intact. I can share the audio no problem but the image/thumbnail is missing. Please see screenshot.
This isn't the first time this has happened.
I don't know if the problem is with Facebook, YouTube or Google Chrome or a combination of these.
You will see from the screenshot that the video clip can be shared but the thumbnail is missing which means if I go any further and share the clip only the audio will be shared.
My O.S. is Windows XP Home and my Google Chrome is up to date.
So, can anyone help with an easy solution ?

Hello all, first time post. I've been doing a lot of internet searching and am coming here because a lot of threads I read on here seemed to have people that were knowledgeable.

So I have two desktop machines. My old one (NEWCHODE - Windows 7 Home) and my new one (CHODEPRO - Windows 7 Pro). I use the same login name on both machines but do not have passwords set up on them. I want to share out the whole C:\ on NEWCHODE. I thought it was possible to do this without having to use passwords. I did it on my XP machines.

In any case, I have the share on NEWCHODE set up to give everyone Full Control. But when I try to access it from CHODEPRO I get the message in the screenshot here:

This is how I have the share set up on NEWCHODE:

If I try to share individual folders within the C:\ by highlighting the folder, clicking Share With > then Homegroup (Read/Write) I see those folders appear the same way C and ChodeC do in the top screenshot. But trying to access them gives me the same message.

My homegroup settings are set the same way on both machines:

Any ideas? I'm seriously out and my internet searching hasn't given me anything new.

A:Unable to share anything.

Turn on password protected sharing,Windows 7 requires a password.

Greetings, I have 3 Windows 7 computers in my home, 1 is a laptop and 2 are PCs, I own the laptop and (what I'm going to call) PC1 to make things simple.

When I attempt to open another computer from PC1 in Windows Explorer I get the error 0x80070035 The network path was not found (the very second I double click it, as if it's not even trying to connect). My laptop and PC2 are able to share with no issues and can even transfer files from themselves to PC1. I am at a loss at this point because I literally have been trying to fix this for almost a month, but to no avail.

Ways I have attempted to troubleshoot this are;

- Disabling Firewalls and Antiviruses completely
- Making sure the Windows Sharing center are correct (even though they are not part of the same workgroup - which I have also ruled out as a possible solution)
- I am able to ping PC2 and my laptop in CMD from PC1 with no troubles.
- Using \\(ComputerName) in Windows Explorer on PC1 comes up with the same error message as above.
- IPv6 is enabled and Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP is selected in the IPv4 settings of my adapters on all devices.

These are the only suggestions I can recall doing, since I have been to countless sites, trying to find a possible fix, I simply cannot remember all possible solutions I have tried offhand.
I am extremely grateful for any solutions anyone may have.

- Alec

A:Unable to Share From One PC

If they are not part of the same workgroup, I would not expect them to be able to share files.  Any sharing that I have done between Win 7 and XP systems (I have 3 computers) or Win7 to Win 7...same workgroup between the O/S installs attempting to share...seems to be a prerequisite.

I have an older model Linksys Wireless B broadband router that I use to share my internet connection. I want to share files as well, but the file sharing only works between two of the computers. The third computer can use the internet connection, but it cannot share files. I have ensured that the firewall settings are appropriate (heck, when I disable the firewall it still doesn't work). I've tried in Safe Mode w/Networking, and it still doesnt' work. I've tried the winsock repair and that didn't work. Pinging the computer returns no response, yet the computer still has no trouble connecting to the internet. It's on the correct workgroup too. I was finally able to get it to work by installing NetBEUI on all of the comptuers, but I'd rather just have TCP/IP installed. I also reset the TCP/IP stack on the computer. Any suggestions?

I was trying 2 share a printer so that it could be used over the network, but to my surprise, the share printer option is disabled, and the "do not share printer" button is selected. I have gone to check window firewalls but I found "File and printer sharing" option selected in the list of programs in Exception tab. And everything there was disabled, i tried to disable windows firewall, but everything on firewall is disabled, and i just cannot make any changes (enablin, disabling firewalls, or even enabling/disabling exception) in it.
i use windows XP.

PLEASE HELP, It is urgent

A:Unable to Share a printer

Go to start/control panel and run the network setup wizard.
Follow the instructions and when prompted, select enable

Hi. I'm having a bit of trouble sharing one of my two external harddrives. When people try to access it from the LAN, they get a message with something about not having the priviliges or not sufficient space or something... (It's in norwegian, so a bit hard to translate). My other harddrive has sharing working perfectly. I've also tried disabling the protection from my antivirus (NOD32) and the windows firewall.. Someone please help.

Best Regards

Hi

I have a new Windows 10 system (A) which has a printer attached. I'm trying to share the printer with another computer (B) also running windows 10, both computers can see each other on the network but when B tries to look at A it gets a message that it can't access A.

The printer is shared and as a far as I can see file and printer sharing is enabled but the add printer routine can't find it.

I can see A and it's shares on a W7 computer (C) on the same network without problem and it has detected and can use the printer.

All computers are in the same Workgroup and both W10 machines (A+B) are in the same Homegroup.

B was able to use the printer when it was attached to D, unfortunately D is now dead and replaced by A.

Any ideas

Thanks

A:Unable to share printer

If you have Advanced sharing properly set up, same as the sharing for the printer, so that "Everyone" can see it. It should show up on the other computer as a Network device in Devices and Printers.

Some printers do require the manufacturer software to be installed, before the computer sees the printer.

I should mention that before this started, I was on facebook commenting on a post and all of a sudden a message came up about malware and it would not log me in, had to have it reset via email and change password in order to get back in. I enter giveaways and all I did was click on share to FB and the following message as seen below came up.

As a security precaution you can't take this action because your computer may be infected with a virus or a malicious browser extension.

I have a desktop running XP Home & a Notebook running XP Home. I set up a home network between the two. Desktop connected to dsl. When I set up printers & clicked share printer I get : Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed. Is there a fix for this? Thanks

A:Unable to share printers!

Make sure "File and Printer Sharing" is turned on for your LAN NIC. To do this, right-click on Network Places, then go to properties. Then right-click on the NIC and go to properties. Make sure there is a check mark next to File/Printer Sharing, and save changes.
