Preferred Solution: Graphics card upgrade

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No there is no removable part that could be upgraded. All the video function is on chips soldered into the motherboard. This is true of almost all laptops.

Hi everyone....

Current PC specs listed above ..... to get it out of the way I am a gamer......

This upgrade is to allow me to play some of the newer games such as The Witcher and also to enable me to utilize DX10 when I eventually upgrade to Vista.

RAM.....this is what I have found...I do not overclock and I am very happy with the matched pair of Corasir XMS 512MB 5400C4 running at 533 that I currently have so I figured the safe bet is in just jumping to a matched pair of 1MB sticks of the same.....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145015

Graphics card.....

I do have a budget and from the reviews I have read this card should carry me through the gaming world for at least the next year (hopefully 2) I like eVGA and I have nothing but good things to say about the eVGA 6800GS that I am currently using.

But if anyone has some input as to problems with the card listed below or if you know of another card that will perform just as well (or better) for around the same price I would like to hear about it.

Thanks in advance for any help.......

Your 500 watt PSU meets the minimum requirement.... GeForce GTX 970 | Specifications | GeForce

So with that in mind....I'd say yes to a new PSU.

Hi,
My system came with a R9 270 which I want to replace with a Sapphire Dual X R9 R280x.
That card needs a 6pin and an 8pin connection and the manufacturer's site say a 500W PSU is advised.
So, I'm concerned that I get a new PSU that fits my case, has the right connectors for all the 8700 components, and is say north of 600W.
Could anyone point me in the right direction.
My system info is......

Even up to $200 is fine, I just want it to work. Its an older computer so it probably cannot be a card that requires a lot of power. The specs off the Dell site are below.

The graphics chip is soldered to the motherboard and is not a removeable or upgradeable component.  Right now HP is running some tremendous Black Friday deals on gaming laptops. They have an i7 7th gen 16 gigs of RAM dedicated video card and a 512 gig PCI-e M.2 drive for $900...normally would cost half again that much.

A:Looking to upgrade graphics card and RAM

In order to upgrade your ram you need to know how many slots are available and what's populating those slots. Run CPU-Z to get that info. If you have 4 slots and you're only using two, just get two more sticks that match what you currently have installed. If you have two slots, you need to remove what you have and just replace with the same type of RAM but 2 x 2GB set.

As far as the video card, it would help to know the specs of the power supply. If you have one of the slim chassis then you need a low profile card which limits your choices.

What's your price range for the video card?

Hi,

I assembled my PC in mid 2010 and it's still runs OK for my purposes except that I feel that Firefox and other programs that I use feel somehow sluggish and I attribute this to the naive graphics card I'm using (AMD RADEON HD 5450) even with the latest Catalyst drivers. I picked this up on purpose because it has no fan (I'm not a gamer anyway).
Now that it's 2014, I'm asking a recommendation for a more powerful graphics card that uses no fan at all in order to enjoy more powerful graphics in Firefox, youtube, flash, photoshop,...etc without adding any extra noise.

Thanks in advance.

A:Better no fan graphics card for upgrade

I sort of doubt that it is your sluggish problem especially with Firefox. That could be due to your internet connection.

What size hard drive and is it close to being full? Do you defrag it periodically?

With that said, check out the Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT730 4GB.

I have been looking on multiple sites to see if I can upgrade  my Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000 to something better so I can download an animation program. However so far all the answers I have found only end in me having to buy a new laptop. Is there a way for me to simply buy a new graphics card that will work and an external hard drive to make up for the lack of space I have on my computer? Or do I have no choice but to go and buy a new laptop?

A:Upgrade graphics card

@GhostCat6 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Sorry, but unlike desktops, which use cards, laptops have chips that are soldered directly to the motherboard or system board, or come in the form of "modules".Only a very limited subset of HP laptops actually allow the replacement of processor, audio, video or WiFi "modules" and, as far as I can tell, yours is not one of these models. This means there is really no way to upgrade the video, WiFi, or processor on your laptop. You're stuck with what came with the PC.You COULD consider putting an SSD in the laptop, but that really only helps with reducing the boot time and program load times. Once the game is loaded into memory and running, the SSD doesn't help real-time performance.

Hello!

I'm currently using the following card:

EVGA 01G-P3-1158-TR GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI.

Last week I changed from Win 7 home Premium 32 bit to the 64 bit. I built this computer last fall, and the the rest of my specs are I5 Quad core 760, 2.80G; 8gb Corsair DDR3 1600, 600W PS.

I use this computer mostly for Flight Sims, and it seems to me my best upgrade would be the GPU. I've always had good luck with EVGA, Nvidea cards, and would like to get one that will outperform the old 250 I'm using and will also run on the 600W PS. I guess I could replace the PS if I really had to, but not looking forward to the work involved, lol.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions that will improve my system. Thanks.

Hi guys,

I've been wanting to upgrade my graphics card for a while now, and while reading online on the best upgrade from a GTX 285 the GTX 570 would be the best route I would take. I'm really interested to know how much gain in performance I would get from upgrading from my 285 to this card MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [N570GTXTWINFROZRIIIPOWEREDITION/OC]

I would appreciate any advice given to me regarding this upgrade and if my system components are capable.

My current power supply: Eclipse Computers - Product Details (I know its a cheap brand but my friend recommended it to me back in the day so I got it...)

Thank you

A:Graphics Card Upgrade

800w will be sufficient.

If you'd like to save some money, I'd suggest the 560Ti, it -rivals- the 570 but still lacks just a little (from a scale of 10, it'd be 7/10 against 8/10)
Really depends if your wallet is stuffed with bills

If you run a 1920x1080 monitor or any dual-triple, then the extra VRAM would do nice- that's if you go dual SLi or triple.

I would like to upgrade my grahpics card to support 3 monitors, what cards can I purchase?

A:Graphics card upgrade

Lettng me know what kind of budget you have for the upgrade would be a plus. You will need a card that supports legacy BIOS.Sapphiretechnology makes cards that support legacy and EFI BIOS.A card such as the Sapphire Radeon Dual-X R7 2G D5 would work.  A Sapphire Tri-X Radeon R9 390X 8G will as well. There are others, but the card  you select as a candidate has to have legacy BIOS support . A card with only EFI support will not boot with your motherboard.  GeForce GTX 10xx series cards have only EFI BIOS support. You will also need to upgrade your ATX PSU to one with 400W or more capacity and PCIe power connectors. I suggest usng a modular style PSU, perhaps a Corsair Builder PSU like the one in the link at NewEgg.com

A:Graphics card upgrade

HI. It has a PCI Express x16 slot for graphics cards.Any card that needs that connection slot, should work for you ya sea 2.0 o 3.0,una cosa a tener en cuenta es la frecuencia a la hora de trabajar en MHz.-There may be incompatibilities between motherboards and graphics cards but by features should work, which, I recommend that where you buy that allow you to return it in case it does not work.-There is no list of compatible graphics cards since you can not try them all because of the number of cards in the market. The steps to follow and that work at the time of placing it are:1) If you already had the new graphic installed ... uninstall it again, reinstall the original.2) Restart the machine by pressing f103) Once in the bios you must deactivate "boot safe", which is inscribed in the security tab. Next you must activate "inherited mode", save changes and turn off the machine.4) Install new graphics card.5) Start the machine and with a bit of luck is everything. Regards.

My current desktop configuration:

Intel P4 2.66 GHz
RAM: 1 GB (will upgrade to 2GB)
Motherboard: MSI PM8PM L
Current OS: Win XP 32-bit

I am planning to upgrade OS to Windows 7. For this I want to upgrade the Graphics Card. Looking at motherboard configuration can anyone suggest me the best Graphics card?

My board supports AGP 4x/8x card. The specification says 32-bits, so can I install Radeon HD 3650 card which is 128-bit? Please suggest.

Thanks.

A:Upgrade Graphics Card

htank, welcome to the forums.

Will that card work with Windows 7? Yes it will. Is it worth buying just for Windows 7? Others may say yes, but personally I would say no. Reason for that is you are liable to run into all kinds of problems getting it to work due to being an AGP card, if you haven't yet do a search of this forum and you will find there have been all kinds of problems getting AGP cards to work in Windows 7 (there is a 27 page thread stickied at the top of this forum). Most of the problems stem from AGP not being fully supported and the lack of a proper AGP driver (not to be confused with the driver for the video card), that allows the video card driver to work properly.

Also depending on your current power supply, you may also need to upgrade it for that card as the card requires an external connection to the power supply.

Another thing is that sad to say, but the card you linked to costs about what your whole computer is worth. Also if you do get that card and then decide down the road to get a new computer, you won't be able to move the card to the new computer as there are no computers being sold with AGP slots anymore.

Normally I am all for upgrading as necessary, but in cases like yours I usually recommend on holding off on Windows 7 until such a time as you get a new computer that is more in line with running it without needlessly spending money to get there.

Hi everyone. I hope you can help me with this one.

I want to upgrade my graphics card to be able to play some 3D games. I can't play any 3D games at all, if I try after installation, it hangs itself, or freezes, or I get a black screen. I've been given a couple of games but with out a 3D graphics card...2D just ain't enough!!! lol

Here are my PC Specifications:

Ali Aladdin V AFPset - GA-5AA Motherboard
320Mb Ram
15gig HD
AMD K6-2 450 Mhz CPU
Creative Audigy Player Soundcard
Matrox Millenium PCI Graphics card
O/system - WindowsXP Pro

My PC works well but the graphics card is old (it was orginally out of my really old pc - AST Advantage, purchased in 1994).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have checked out other threads and they've been helpful, but I need to know what would be compatible with the system I've got. Also cost will be playing a big part in what ever card I buy.
Ta In Advance

Hello! I have recently purchased an HP Pavilion 550-222ur and found out that the default graphics card (GeForce GT 730) is underperforming in most games. So I  want to get a more powerful one (was thinking GeForce GTX 750 Ti or Asus GeForce GTX 950 mini). While researching the upgrade possibility, I found out that some graphics cards fail to function on HP-branded PCs due to some BIOS issue. So the question is: will the graphics cards mentioned in this post work? And if those cards are compatible, I will have to get a better PSU as well, right? Thanks in advance. Providing specifications of my PC for reference purposes: http://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/HP-Pavilion-550-200-Desktop-PC-series/9259612/model/9764558/docu...

A:Graphics card upgrade

GeForce GTX 750 Ti or Asus GeForce GTX 950 mini are not viable for your specific desktop PC. The internal 180W PSU, as shown in the specs that you graciously provided a link to,  is a definite showstopper. Your PC is, unfortunately, not what one would call a good upgrade candidate as HP did not state which case format it has. I will ask HP about it.

I have a HP d4000e with a new blue ray player installed but the nVidia 6200se video card will not support the blue ray player, can anyone recommend an agp video card to replace it and where do I get it.

A:Graphics card upgrade

In order to play Blu-ray content you'll need (besides the Blu-ray player ofc):

A HDCP-capable software media player (you should have received one with the player);
A HDCP-capable video card (all modern video cards from 2007 and onwards);
And a HDCP-capable display (if it has a HDMI input, then it should also have HDCP).
What's HDCP?
High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, a form of copy protection that basically lets you play only on devices that have this feature.
Check this link if you want to learn more about it.

Back to your question, if you can find one in your area, HIS makes an AGP version of the ATi Radeon HD 4350 which is excellent for Blu-ray playback and is also pretty cheap.
The full name for it should be HIS Radeon HD4350 iFan 512MB DDR3 64-bit AGP.
Sapphire also makes an AGP HD 4650: Sapphire Radeon HD4650 1GB DDR2 128-bit AGP. This is a bit more expensive than the other, but is also more suitable for gaming (if you care).
If you tell me in which country you live, I could also give you some suggestions where to buy one.

PS: Both cards are HDCP-compliant.

Recently I have been enjoying playing Metro 2033, however I have not been able to smoothly run the game on its highest settings because performance drops dramatically, the game lags and all that annoying jazz. So I play on less demanding settings, according to 'Can You Run it?' my system meets all the necessary minimum system requirements, it even has all the recommended system requirements bar one, it doesn’t cut the mustard in the graphics cards department.

I've been considering the idea of upgrading my graphics card to deal with the new, more graphically demanding games of the future. I don’t have a limitless budget, I wanted to ask people who knew a great deal more than I do what particular graphic card upgrades I should consider. I’m not made of money so obviously hi-end hardware is out of the question but something better than I have now and with some longevity to it would be sweet.

is the hd 3850 complicable to an agp 4x?

motherboard: AGP 4X supports 1 GB/s data rate and runs at 266MHz.

more info (link): eu.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1&TypeID=1&DetailID=51&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=8

is this posible to work proparle?

A:Upgrade graphics card

yep, you can run a agp 8x in a agp 4x slot as long as the card says its backwards compatible

altho, with that huge bottleneck, i dont think its worth getting the 3850

my last system had a agp 4x slot, couldnt tell a difference at all when i upgraded my nvidia 5200 to a much better agp card.

save a couple of bucks and try the 3650 agp card, it also supports 4x/8x agp

link to one is here

2600 doesnt look too bad either, bout the same price as card above

I am a noob at upgrading and installing parts in computers. I bought a gaming computer from amazon and it has been running quite well so far, but I intend on upgrading the graphics card. Maybe paying some-one to do it for me, as I have no knowledge what so ever on how to install/remove a graphics card.
Current PC Specs that I know of:
Processor: AMD Quad Core 4130.
Graphics Card: ATI HD 5450.
Power Supply: According to the Seller. 110v, 500 watts.
As you can see I do not know much about my computer. But here is a link to the product that I bought from Amazon: http://amzn.to/1kaSsXv
------------------
I play games like: COD: Ghosts, COD 4: Modern Warfare, GTA V [When and IF it comes out on PC], Garrys Mod, WoW, Portal 2 and other high end graphics games. - Overall, I need a recommendation on what graphics card to buy, and would it both run and fit in my computer. [I live in the UK and my budget is aprox. £150]. Sorry if I have either posted this in the wrong thread, or if I am not giving enough information. Please inform me if you require more info.

EDIT!: I found some information about my computer from the amazon link, here is some Product Details:
Processor Brand: AMD
Processor Type: AMD BULLDOZER [4130 Quad Core]
Processor Speed: 3.9 GHz
Processor Socket: SocketAM3
Processor Count: 4 Memory
RAM Size: 8000 MB
Computer Memory Type: DDR3 SDRAM Hard Drive
Hard Drive Size: 1000 GB
Hard Drive Interface: Serial ATA

With that budget and 500 watts, you should not be too limited in your purchases. One thing you need to check is if your Power Supply has a set of 6 pin connectors or 8 pin connectors because sometimes on the pre-bought machines they do not have too many.

Here is what I would recommend if you have at least 2 6 Pins available:

Highest
R9 280 £175
or
R9 270X £140

Those would both be excellent cards with the 280 being the best and the 270X being right below it in terms of performance. Both would be a huge step up from an HD 5450.

Hi, I would ask you if I can upgrade my lenovo H50-50 (8GB RAM,intel i7 3.60GHz,GTX 745)with the Zotac GTX 1060 6GB Thanks in advance.

A:[H50-50] Graphics card upgrade

Hi Ale1612YT ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

OEM recommended upgrade listed from the hardware manual page 75.
However this does not limit other owners from customizing their rig to what is needed similar to this thread successfully upgrading both GPU and PSU (gigabyte gtx960 itx card and a corsair 500w atx psu) .

On the same thread , fellow selenit4 is currently in process for a zotac gtx 1060 mini and a corsair cx600 and would be updating for functionality soon.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

And can i also add the graphics cards above in thic pc. Thanks

A:Can I upgrade to another graphics card?

@Cephachrome, welcome to the forum. There are several things that you have to consider when buying a video card: 1) length of the card.  Will it fit into the space, 2) power required to run it properly and 3) does it require supplemental power adapters?  Either of the video cards in the links provided will require you to upgrade the power supply unit (PSU), also.  The PSU in the computer is only 180W.  I would recommend the GTX 1050.  It has more onboard memory.  You will have to go to the manufacturer's website to determine how much power that it requires.  I suggest a PSU with at least 500W.  You should read the Customer Reviews to see what users have to say about both of the cards. Q: And can i also add the graphics cards above in thic pc.  A: Yes, the PCI Express slot is directly below the two cables.  You should use the same logic as described in my post. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I'm at the point once again where my current graphics card is starting to lag behind the software produced. I currently have an ATI all-in-wonder X800 series card. The rest of my system is working great so I would just like to upgrade the graphics card. After mistakenly purchasing a new card that didn't fit my slot, I am asking for advice for the most high-end graphics card that will fit in my current slot. I'm guessing by the specs on my current card that my slot is a apg 8x (?)

What would be your suggestion???
Thanks!

The standard appears to be PCI Express today as far as buying a new card check tigerdirect.com that is where I found mine... i do not have PCI Express but wanted 512MB and HD quality.
