I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello all I have been using this latop for about a month and it felt slower than my alternate Dell XPS with very similar specs.  It has a Samsung 850 Pro SSD, which is technically slower than PM961 on the lenovo.  However, all my programs seem slower and jittery - the same programs runs butter smooth on my Dell.   I have installed the latest NVMe drivers from Samsung, am not using thunderbolt port and also using Intel Rapid storage technology.  What may be causing this slowness? The programs I mainly use are for development: Eclipse, IntelliJ, database daemons etc. Below are my crystal disk stats: -----------------------------------------------------------------------CrystalDiskMark 6.0.1 x64 (C) 2007-2018 hiyohiyoCrystal Dew World : https://crystalmark.info/-----------------------------------------------------------------------* MB/s = 1,000,000 bytes/s [SATA/600 = 600,000,000 bytes/s]* KB = 1000 bytes, KiB = 1024 bytesSequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1730.315 MB/sSequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1418.643 MB/sRandom Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 747.831 MB/s [ 182575.9 IOPS]Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 459.212 MB/s [ 112112.3 IOPS]Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 303.422 MB/s [ 74077.6 IOPS]Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 229.395 MB/s [ 56004.6 IOPS]Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 42.850 MB/s [ 10461.4 IOPS]Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 131.647 MB/s [ 32140.4 IOPS]Test : 1024 MiB [C: 48.4% (114.7/237.2 GiB)] (x5) [Interval=5 sec]D... Hello everyone, I see there is an updated firmware for Samsung PM961 512GB NVMe SSD model "MZVLW512". Here is the link: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-... Does anyone know whether this update is valid for "SAMSUNG MZVLW512HMJP-000L7"? I ask this because I tried to install this update but failed. This updater said there is no update firmware for this SSD. Currently, the firmware of this SSD is "5L7QCXY7". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Regards,CnZhx

My ThinkPad P51 with Lenovo supplied nvme system SSD (Samsung PM961 MZNLN512HMJP-000L7) is crashing lately during heavy I/O.  I don't know if it's a hardware problem or possibly a firmware bug. I'm looking for advice on how to troubleshoot. The system is under warranty.  I want to avoid spinning my wheels with service. I'm current with Windows 10 Pro and Lenovo updates.  I've got the latest BIOS. There doesn't seem to be any firmware updates available for that drive as it is supposed to be supplied by the OEM.  Samsung magician doesn't support that drive because it is the OEM edition. When the problem occurs the drive goes offline.  This causes Windows 10 to crash (blue screen) and reboot.   No windows system log entries are written since the drive went off line.  No dump is available. I first noticed the problem when trying to do a full backup. The built in diagnostics see no problem.  They do a quick scan that isn't enough I/O to trigger the problem.  A chkdsk to scan for bad sectors will cause the system to crash. If I boot into a Linux rescue environment, I can see the same problem occur just trying to do a sequential read.  Usually after reading about 60-100 GB the drive goes offline.  There are messages in dmesg about reseting the nvme controller and capacity going from 512 GB to 0. I wouldn't mind getting the drive replaced by the warranty, but I don't want to waste a lot of time ... Hello,My understanding is that both the T460p and T470p support PCIe 3.0 x2 via their SATAe SSD connector. The T470p has an adapter on which an M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive can be connected and get speeds higher than SATA.  The T460p on the other hand only has this one Toshiba SATAe drive to improve on SATA speeds, and that is limited to 256GB, it is rare and cancels the WAN port for further storage. So, can the adapter from the T470p be used in the T460p? This would solve all problems for the T460p, higher speed and good capacity. Thanks

A:M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive for T460p using T470p's SSD 2.5 adapter. Will it work?

Hi, otheosyou wrote:> it ... cancels the WAN port for further storage.the combo m.2 wwan/ssd slot isn't assocoiated with main 2.5" slot for HDD/SSD, it's a separate slot. This combo slot supports m.2 SSD SATA III 22x42 mm in size only, not a PCIe one.I haven't seen the prooves that the bracket/adapter for m.2 PCIe SSD 2280 for T470p (there isn't the one for 2.5" PCIe SSD in T470p parts list) is compatible with T460p.

In this discussion, Amy from Lenovo recommends that we purchase Lenovo SSDs if we want thermal management: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Can-I-add-a-Samsung-950-Pro-NVMe-SSD-to-... The link no longer directs us to a particular model. So I perform a search on the Lenovo site and see (among others) this model: ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/memory-and-storage/storage/HDD-BO-ThinkPad-M-2... What is this? A Samsung SSD rebranded as a Lenovo SSD? Would I gain in compatibility with such a drive or not, and specifically regarding thermal management? Also, is there a misprint below concerning the read speed? "ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD supporting PCIe 3.0 interface standard up to 4 lanes shows much faster performance than previous SATA SSDs. It's sequential performance is up to 300MB/s for read operation and 1700MB/s for write operation by 4 lanes. Test-Prove 100% Compatible with ThinkPad machines. " That has to be 3000MB/S, right?

Yesterday I installed a Samsung 950 pro 256gb m2 pcie nvme ssd into a Dell E7270
Older configuration was with a sandisk regular sata 3 ssd. After replacement did a bios reset twice, once factory reset, once custom. (I left sata on ahci.)
I chose to install windows 10 pro x64 by using the uefi/gpt methode. Legacy options off.
Installation went without a problem. Afterwards I installed the Samsung nvme driver
Also the Samsung magician software. It reports a link speed 8Gbps (is ok), link width 16 Gbps (should be 32?) .
Is there a way to change the pcie link width from 2x to 4x? I thought this ultrabook did support x4.

For several months, I have had Samsung Magician 4.97 installed on my P70's Windows 7 and Windows 10  boot drives -- both are original Lenovo-suppled and installed 512 GB Samsung NVMe drives.  This utility offered limited functionality, simply recognizing the drives and allowing them to be benchmarked, tested and described but nothing else.  No ability to update firmware, adjust caching or over-provision the drives.  Moreover, Lenovo has previously not responded to my posted queries regarding how to update the firmware on these units, as they are out of sync -- one of the devices has a much older rev. level than the other and I dare not try to set-up a RAID array under these conditions. I was hoping the newly released Ver. 5.00 of Magician would remedy this.  However, circumstances have become worse, as the utility does not even "see" the two NVMe drives. Does anyone else have experience with 5.00 or a potential fix to the firmware update issue?  Any insights or opinions would be appreciated.

Hi All, I'm looking to upgrade the hard drive in this laptop as it seems to be the only real bottleneck performance wise. up until windows preview build 14986, the pcie driver "Mobile 6th Generation Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #5 - 9D14" (v10.1.1.27) correctly detects the "Standard NVM Express Controller" storage controller and the Toshiba THNSN5512GPU7 NVMe disk attached to it. starting with windows preview build 15002 (and 15007), the included pcie driver has troubles detecting the storage controller - during bootup, it is detected 4 times, with each time on a different device id. subsequently, the drive is also added 4 times, resulting in boot controller errors & timeouts and failed sleep mode/shutdowns. the included chipset driver in these latest builds seem to have been bumped to v10.1.1.33. the problem can easily be replicated by using unmodified recovery boot usb sticks made from the official isos, and then checking in a recovery console. it is thus not related to anything installed in my system.

They're listed here as well.

Recently purchased a Samsung 960 EVO - 500GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD and a Ableconn PEXM2-SSD M.2 NGFF PCIe SSD to PCI Express 3.0 x4 Host Adapter Card thinking I could use this combo to boot to a SSD.  The computer is a HP Envy 810-150se.   The motherboard is a Pegatron IPIWN-PB (Bios PI2_818.ROM v8.18).  The current harddrives are 2 WD 10EZEX 1.0TB drives in the RAID config.   The SSD drive was recognized and I was able to clone the C: drive using the Samsung Clone software but when I reboot I don't see it at all.  I've looked through the bios settings not finding anything that I think would help. Can this be done?  Is there a newer bios to update?  Does the RAID config need to be turned off?  Do I need to disable the non-used SATA channels? My fall back plan is to get a SATA SSD and use that but I think the PCIe NVMe is much faster. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,  Mike

For my recently bought E5570 Latitude I bought an new/bigger/faster SSD.
It's the Samsung 950 PRO with the PCIe connection and NVMe support.
I have created an Windows 10 install USB to doe a fresh install but windows does not see/detect the drive.
-edit-I was able to install windows by loading the F6 drivers for Intel Rapid Storage.
But not the less funny part, I only hit about 1000Mb/s reading while it should be around 2500Mb/s.Now samsung has a special NVME driver but that states no NVME drive is installed. Also samsung magician does not detect the drive correctly. The name is all weird and it has 0Gb storage.
Did anyone already come accross this issue? And if so how did you solve it

A:Windows 10 does not see/detect Samsung 950 PRO M2. PCIE/NVMe drive

Here is the guideline from Dell:

Im also interested in E5570, some questions:
1. Quite many user reviews complain about high-frequency noise coming from mobo or PSU unit. Can you confirm?
2. Would you know if any available Dell SSD option is actually NVMe?
Also, the trouble is, you have to buy M.2 SSD from Dell in order to get 6cell battery.

I think this StarTech PCIe card is more what you need.

Supports PCIe M.2 SSDs
The adapter supports PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe (M Key) and PCIe-AHCI M.2 SSDs including 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 drives. The expansion slot adapter supports the most common drive sizes including 110 mm, 80 mm, 60 mm and 42 mm.
Here's another card that is also acceptable.

Hi, I have a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro (x64) on my X1 Yoga, installed in UEFI mode. I wish to encrypt the drive with Bitlocker with TPM and PIN. Another user on a different thread alluded that this is not possible as the X1 Yoga I have uses a PCIe-NVMe disk, for which there is no hardware support for Bitlocker. Is this correct or am I confused?

A:Lenovo X1 Yoga (20FQ) BitLocker with TPM and PIN

I meant you cannot use the AES hardware engine of the NVMe SSD (if a SED like the OPAL2 option) - but you can use software BitLocker just fine. This means the CPU will have to do the crypto instead for some performance penalty depending on your I/O - see CPU utilisation during a benchmark for example. Also do note that using FDE (full disk encryption) on a SSD is not "great" as the whole disk "looks full" to the SSD - so you may need to over-provision for best performance. You can also use "encrypt only used space" instead. There are pros and cons for each.

Hello, I have decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 Professional (x64) on my Lenovo X1 Yoga (20FQ). I'm currently pulling my hair out trying to install Windows 10 in UEFI mode, I want to do this so I can use the full functionality of the TPM chip and bitlocker. Hello Friends.  I successfully installed a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD as a boot drive just fine.  However, it looks like the Windows 10 NVME driver is being used in place of the Samsung NVME driver.  I saw this post here where it says: "Windows is indicating it is using the NVMe driver for this drive." https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-750se-capable-of-M-2-NVMe-... However I do not know how to determine this myself.  I am using a utility called "AIDA64 Extreme" and it's telling me the driver provider for the 950 is Micrososft and the driver version is 10.0.14393.0.  So, how do I get the 950 to use the Samsung driver instead?  Thanks for any help.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hi, the PSREF document for the T480 mentions that the M.2. 2280 SSD slot has 4 PCIe lanes (see http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20T480/ThinkPad_T480_Platform_Specificatio...). However the german site campuspoint.de who sells campus models of the T480 states that the M.2 2280 SSD slot in this model (unlike the T480s) is limited to 2 PCIe lanes, just as on the previous T470. I wanted to be sure and asked them, and here is their reply: We were stumbling over the same point in the PSREF. The difference to the former Models like T470 and T570 made us suspicious, since the new models use a very similar Adapter. So, we made a simple test. We took a T580 with a Samsung PM981 SSD, which should be able of up to 3200 Mb/s of read performance and made a simple benchmark. Our test showed a read performance of roughly 1800 Mb/s at max. This is about the same score as we had with the T470 and T570 Models and just slightly under what is theoretically possible with two PCIe Lanes. It looks like Lenovo just didn?t mention the restriction by the Adapter. This has nothing to do with Campus Models or not. The Campus Models use the same parts as used in other Thinkpad models. As you mentioned the T480s doesn?t have this issue.  Can Lenovo confirm there is a mistake in the PSREF of the T480 and T580 with respect to the number of lanes for the M.2 2280 SSD slot?

I just purchased a new T480 with the 1Tb SSD drive. In device manager the drive is listed with the following model attributes: SCSI\DiskNVMe____SAMSUNG_MZVLB1T0EXA7SCSI\DiskNVMe____SAMSUNG_MZVLB1T0SCSI\NVMe____SAMSUNG_MZVLB1T0ETwo questions to the group please: 1)  The driver in use for the drive is a "generic" Microsoft driver  V10.0.16299.371   dated  2006 ....I would have thought there would be a more recent / more efficient driver for this drive? 2) Write Caching is enabled in the driver.  I'm no wizard at this, but it doesn't seem like that would be necessary? Thanks for any help!Jim
