I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

So i recieved about 2 years ago an HP envy 15 notebook as a gift for school and for the first 2 months it was fine but then it started to get really slow and the keyboard typing was not mathing with the tping on the screen, then the same with the mouse track pad and crash on me occasionally and after that i did not use the laptop for a long time until i recently pulled it out and it is still doing the same things but now when i try to do work on it and also play music with youtube it freezes the computer and would crash and reboot and it does get anoying  when i am trying to do work not only with youtube but by itself too. Also my battery is not holding up. i use it with the screen brightness pretty low without the keyboards lights and it would say i have 3 hours but it would already start to die in a little over an hour. i just need to help with problem so i can use this computer properly.

The HP kit includes both hard drive caddies and the short and long cable. You likely only need one caddy and the short cable for just the secondary drive. Hi, I'm having troubles turning my laptop on. I have a Hp Envy 15 Touchsmart. I've tried doing a reboot by taking the battery out and holding power for a minute and trying to reboot it but nothing happened. It was plugged in and fully charged when it turned off. The charging light is still on when it is plugged into the wall.A few weeks ago it randomly restarted and shut off when I was watching a movie on it but it rebooted no problem.My phone fell out of my hand 3 nights ago and landed just left of the track pad when it shut off and won't turn back on.

So I think my computer is either shorting out, or the mother board is fried. I have a powersupply, I plug it into the wall, it lights up green, and then I plug it into the computer, and you can faintly hear an electrical sound like it's shorting out for a second, and then the light on the power supply goes out. Any ideas?

Greetings,    I have owned this laptop for over 2 years and have encountered many problems which have required me to open up my laptop and remove debree/dust from the interior. My last adventure included removing the fan and heatsink from the inside, but when I assembled the laptop back together it will not start up. When plugged in the white led light still shows next the the charger socket, but the power button will not light up after several tries. The fan does not start to spin either.   I have tried the hold the power for 1 minute idea, but it does not change anything.I have 3 possible conclusion that are very unlikly to me.1.  I worked on carpet and had static  electrickery! Doubt it.2. The harddrive is not working properly3. The memory is not working properlyAny fixes to these above? any other possible causes?

HP Envy Touchsmart M6 Sleekbook turned off suddenly and won't boot now.   Power and WiFi light for a few seconds and then nothing, will not actually power on.  Following some related posts I openned it, unplugged battery, plugged in wall and tried to power on. The same lights come on, the power button and wi if for a couple of seconds and nothing. This time though the fan did come on, or at least it sounds like a fan, it's a whisper fan so it was always unnoticeable.Is is there something else I can try? Desperate....

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.
 
I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot? Is this possible a mother board issue? Everything was working fine before embarking on this r... Read more

Hello. I've owned my HP notebook for just over 2 years and it has suddenly stopped working. I noticed yesterday that the battery was running low, despite being plugged in to the charger. I've removed the battery and had the charger tested - which works. I went to turn the notebook on today (knowing there was a good hour of charge left), after putting it to sleep yesterday, and now it won't turn on at all. It is worth pointing out that I have noticed a screw missing from the top left of the underside of the notebook (near the charger port). After some time, this has caused part of the plastic cover underneath to crack and pull away from the keyboard part. It is usually made worse when I open the laptop, but I just push it back together after. What might have happened and what can I do to get my laptop working again? Thanks for any help.

hello.it's been 2 years since i use this pc and it works just well,but today,when i turned on the pc it can't boot. It just turned on,but the screen show nothing,and when i say nothing i mean really really just like it doesn't get turned on. i tried to push the DVD button and it is still working,the light on the power button also work,and everytime i tried to turned it on and off the sound of the pc turned on still can be heard. so its just like everything is ok but the computer isn't booting.ussually before this happened,it took only 3 seconds after i turned on the pc,to boot into the loading screen,but now it does nothing.one day before,i upgraded to windows 10. and it is still working,the next day it is also still working,then i shut it down. the next time i tried it(ijust about 15 minutes i turned it off ,it won't boot. ) i don't know if this is related,but in the internet people said that things like this happened because of the hardware and not the software.please help me,i really need this pc to get back to work thank you,and sorry for my bad english

The computer was stuck on the HP screen and I ran a test and the hard drive failed. I bought a new hard drive and was about to start recovery but decided to power off and reboot before starting the process. I now have a blank display. The lights are all okay, fan is running and    no beeps for errors.  Does anyone have any idea how to get the display to start working? I tried all types of keystrokes but nothing seems to work.  Going to give it one more try before I send this computer to the junk yard.  Thanks

Hello,I purchased an HP Envy Laptop my first year of College, and it has served me well to a point.But recently, I noticed that there was some separation happening in the body of the laptop, just next to the right hinge area. The "metal" and plastic pieces of the casing were pulling apart from each other. This began to cause problems with my disk drive as well, I believe. It became more concerning when it began happening on the right side as well, and likely caused problems with the fan.At this point, the left side of the casing, right by the vent snaps out and back into place whenever I open my laptop. As this is a problem that could be getting worse virtually every time I use the computer, it makes it stressful to enjoy my HP device. If this continues, more problems will undoubtedly arise.I need a solution to this, lest my HP experience be ruined.Thank you for your time. I do appreciate and respect it.

Last year while my daughter was at school she started reporting to me that her HP Envy Touchsmart 15" laptop's case was pulling apart at the corners.  Then she started reporting hearing rattling noises inside the case, then the fan stopped working.   I called HP support, and was told by one person the laptop was under warranty, but that wouldn't be covered because of normal wear and tear.  I called back later and then was told the laptop was not under warranty.  I called back several times, and got a variety of answers all of which added up to between $300 and $500 for repairs on a laptop that I spent $700 on! When she came home for a break from school, I took apart the laptop and removed the debries from the fan (I had purchased a replacement fan which I didn't need) and the laptop stopped overheating.  Next I tackled the hinge problem which by this time had progressed to be both hinges.  The weak plastic connections on the bottom were in bad shape, cracked and peices missing.  So (being the brain surgeon I am ) I decided to use epoxy to more firmly affix the hinges to the case.  That fix has now failed. I have seen and posted on other threads that this type of failure is (despite what HP support says) fairly common in the whole line of HP consumer grade laptops!  Before this, I had mainly used HP business grade laptops and had thought that the quality there would also be in the consumer grade laptops.  My... Hi Team, I am from Sydney, Australia. I have purchased HP Touchsmart laptop in 2013 around December. My laptop have a broken hinge, which is putting pressure on the case near the hinge on both the sides. Seems this is a popular problem. At first this started on one side after around 2 years of buying this laptop.But now, I have this problem on both sides and I don't know what to do as I am out of warranty. Can you please help me fix this issue? I understand that my laptop is not in warranty but I've not dropped my laptop or have not banged anywhere. It is just an issue with the hinge of the laptop. I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 23". It was used little over the three years. Last week, when starting up it started to display the message reading "Critical error/your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it next time you sign in". After several attempts of power off and restart, hoping the fix would happen, my HP simply stopped responding to the power on switch. The power on switch would light up indicating that the power was on, but the screen would not light up or indicate activity. Best Buy, where I purchased the computer, could not assess the problem locally - they could only arrange to send it to somewhere in BC, for an assessment that would take 2 to 6 weeks. Can anyone help?

I have tried every method from HP recovery method and all three give the same response. It goes through everything and reloads software but then gives that response. If i click try again it tells me to insert recovery media.

Try changing the date in BIOS to 1/01/2012. Save & Exit. Boot from Recovery and let it run through the process- but on the first reboot it initiates enter BIOS to ensure date is still modified. If so let Recovery resume-if not change it again then resume.

Hello!I bought my computer about 11 months ago for college and the past month it has been having some weird cracking noises when opening/closing the lid. A friend of mine told me to watch out since he had the same computer and it had broken off. I noticed today that theroght hinge is actually starting to come out and the base of the computer is also getting loose. This is very strange since I barely move my computer from the desk since it is so big, plus I have a smaller one that I use to take to classes so I don't mess with this one for stuff that is unnecessary. Trying to disable my touchscreen. I went to devices, human interface. There is no option for a screen, only HID compliant devices. Could not turn it off under Pen and Touch either. I have Windoes 8.1.

 Does anyone know what this part is?  I'd really like to know its part number because I'm trying to order a replacement.  It has the power button on one side, and on the internal side it has screw-ins for the fan and one of the speakers.  It is a black plastic part that runs along the side that the fan blows out and flattens out on both sides.  It was glued to the metal case.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

 I purchased a HP envy touch smart i7 laptop in 2014 from Bangladesh. But after using it for 3 months the hinge broke off and one side cover is gap open where hinges broke. I was wondering how could it happen? As I didn't do any forcing on this.So I took it to the computer source the distributor from whom I purchased it. They told me it is not under warranty cover as the parts is broken. So I am using it like that for 2 years as PC. So I don't have to close the lid. Purchased this laptop in October 2013...had to send it in twice so far...motherboard replaced after just a few months and then the case split less than 6 months later.  Case was replaced as the unit was under warranty.  Recently the laptop case starting coming apart again in the top left corner, and when  I started it up one day I noticed a loud rattling sound. Upon opening up the case, I discovered that the majority of screw housing locations had failed and the many broken pieces were loose inside the case. One of these pieces had fallen into the fan which caused the noise.  I removed all of the broken parts and now simply place the laptop on a desk and don't dare move it or adjust the screen (which in my opinion is too heavy for the hinges and case used). Since it is out of warranty, I'm assuming that HP will pretty much say "Sorry, too bad for you" unless they can accept that this the result of a poor design, in which case I will be pleased to discuss how they can make this right. Such a bad experience with my first HP laptop and it's clear that this is quite a widespread issue, so HP can't ignore the deficiency.   Given this problem, it's unlikely that I'll purchase another HP laptop moving forward. HP.....any comments?

My laptop goes to sleep after a time with no activity, which is fine.  However, it NEVER wakes up.  I always have to make sure it is unplugged and pull the battery to restart it, which is a hassle.  I would like to say that this occured after my Windows 10 update, but that is not the case.  It has always done this.  I'm ready to ditch it and go back to a Dell.  Please advise.

 I bought my HP Envy Touchsmart over 2 years ago.  I keep it by my chair at home and only used for personal use.  Several months ago, one hinge started breaking, now both are and now today the plastic on the bottom is trying to pull loose due to the hinge being broken.  It appears this is a very common problem with the HP laptops.  I have been a loyal HP customer with computers and printers, however I'm extremely disappointed that how careful I am with my computer, that it is broken.  I'm in fear that every time I open it up, it will be the last.  I'm looking forward to your help with this issue.

My Envy 23 TouchSmart All-in-One PC asked to update the firmware the other day, so I said yes.  It seemed like the update never fully downloaded or completed.  Now, when I try to turn on the computer, it comes up with the following error " Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart."  It then goes into a HP logo screen and says " Preparing Automatic Repair", then "Diagnosing your PC", then Blue screen with "Automatic Repair" header "Your PC did not start correctly.  Press "restart" to restart your PC, which can sometimes fix the problem.  You can also press "Advanced options" to try other options to repair your PC." I had a restore USB drive made when I bought the computer 3 years ago, but it doesn't seem to help. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Bought Envy in December 2014.  At about 19 months I noticed the hinge was not working right and I found a small screw which fell out.  The hinge has gotten worse over the last month or so even though I  have been careful with it. I am the only user.  I saw many other posts about hinge problems on the envy.  Is Hp doing anything about this problem?  I believe its only a one year warrenty.  Am I SOL because of this?

I have a HP ENVY notebook of model TouchSmart 15-j127tx.Using the laptop causes eye fatigue after 15 minutes itself.The White color background is the main cause and I experience eye fatigue  even after trying many combinations of  brightness and contrast. I have adjusted the gamma settings to different levels and even used the Display Colour Calibration within Win 10 to improve the display,but the result is same. At first, I thought only I have this problem, but over the time, people whoever uses my notebook complain the same. I use a different  brand laptop for work, which does not have a touch display. I work on that laptop for more than 10 hours a day but don't feel eye fatigue. But when I use this HP laptop, always, I feel the strain on my eyes. Can anyone help on this. Thanks.

You will see a restore the default settings for this plan. Hello HP Buddies, I have an HP Envy Touchsmart laptop model M7-J178CA  / Product: E8A17UA#ABL and it works fine in stock form. I installed a brand new Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD using the correct adapter kit Part number: 720237-001 Part description: HDD Hardware Kit http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=542 and I have the following concerns: 1) Windows disk management does not recognize the SSD, nor does the latest version of Samsung Magician.  I think I need to enable ACHI mode (or the equivalent) but I am not sure how to do this as there does not seem to be anything in the BIOS to allow this. 2) I ordered a USB to SATA adapter (not here yet!) Can't I enable the SSD from the HDD Hardware Kit SATA cable / connector? I know there can be problems enabling an SSD via an external HD USB case, so I did not try that. 3) I want to clone the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD to the original HP 1TB hybrid drive, is it true you can't clone the Windows drive while in use? 4) I have a bunch of other PC's (some with Acronis True Image) and some external HD USB cases.  Can I clone the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD to the original HP 1TB hybrid drive, by putting the SSD in one external HD USB case and the original HP 1TB hybrid drive in another external HD USB case and use Acronis True Image? 5) I thought Samsung Magician can clone boot drives similarly to Acronis True Image, no? 6) Does my HP Envy Touchsmart lapto... My understanding is that you would like to know the meaning behind the function keys, is that correct? I will try to explain that as best I can.

 

Normally the function keys have different purposes, from adjusting brightness, putting  the computer to sleep, and depending on what type of computer you have there could be a mute key. Also, here is a document that might help you a little bit better.

The hinge on the left side has popped up as the base of the metal hinge has separated from the frame. Laptop was puchased from Costco in 2012.

Hello,  I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 a little over a year ago. The hinge seems to have come unglued fromt the inside. I read that the HP Envy is prone to this, since the hinge is glued in production as opposed to being fastened with a screw. I'm a graduate student, and I'm unable to use my HP for schoolwork due to the faulty hinge. The computer has been handled carefully, and it's never been dropped. This is my first HP. It was great when it was working; however, a laptop that costs nearly a grand and works only for 1 year due to the construction is extremelhy dissapointing.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it was handled by HP. I purchased it through costco, so I should have an extended 2 year warranty on the device.  Thanks in advance,  Alexandria

Hi there, The Wifi on this laptop keeps either dropping connection, or changing to a "limited" network. Sometimes it works fine, but more often than not it drops out. All other wifi enabled devices in my house work fine, so I know it's not the internet. I've also tested on two other networks where the same dropping out occurs. I have no idea where to begin with this really so would be grateful for any help!  Windows 8 64 BitIntel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (up to date) Thanks

Laptop was purchased in 4/14 (2-3/4 yrs old) and is off warranty.  Both L/R hinges have become very loose with 1.5" of swing open "slop" and start of seam opening between silver keyboard top and plastic lower botom.  It is a TouchSmart model that has a almost non-existant use of touch input and been well proctected with minimal mobile use.  It is a A10, 8MB, 1GB HD unit with a great deal of additional potrential service. When "HP ENvy hinge problems" was Googled I was alarmed to hear about several user instances of HP Envy hinge issues have been noted. This is an obvious design flaw as the Envy models are intended to be thin and light premium models with TouchSmart input capability and mobile and therefore should have been designed for extensive TouchSmart input.  As a 25 year I.T. veteran with former roles in flield systems engineer management and traveling with laptops and after owning several HP laptops and equipment, I know that less than 3 years of light use is unacceptable HP quality. I wish to be contacted to discuss equitable options before this unit fails completely and is unusable.  I also wish to also know if there is true engineering fix to overcome the weak hinge issue or would a HP repair just kick the problem down the road. Thanks

Hello, Today when opening my laptop the left hinge started to binde and I noticed that it had broken.  When trying to see what was going on and opening and closing the laptop a few more times, the right hinge broken.   It was not dropped and there is no physical damage to the lapop.   My 2010 HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop hinges are still going strong....7 years later.  Can anyone tell me what my possibile solution are to this problem?   Thank you,Nathan Jones

Please help - the hinge on my HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1105dx split apart last week. I can't open or close the cover now, as it causes the top section to separate and pieces of plastic around the hinge break off. I've looked online all week and see many others have had this happen, but I can't find any instructions from HP on what we're supposed to do. I cannot lose my computer. I use assistive technology, because I can't write or type without pain. I have to get this fixed before the laptop breaks, or I won't be able to my work or anything else.
