Weird game crashing bug!

Q: Weird game crashing bug!

Hi guys
I'm at my wits end.
I have these incidents where I'll be playing a game [namely City of Heroes ], and about half an hour into the game, my keyboard will decide that it won't let me move using the keys - neither will it allow me to use the Windows key to get out of the gaming window, which I normally have no problem with. When I do press the windows key, I can only see half of the taskbar, and the game is still visible. In-game animations are playing as normal, yet I can't select the CoH tab in the taskbar to return to the game.

I can, however, type as normal (on the first sign of this happening).

I end up having to switch it off from the mains!

It's been doing this for a while now, on and off - I'm worried I will damage the hard drive, or I've already damaged it.
I've attached a pic of the EventTracker log which shows "Printers" as the category - I must say though, a printer is not attached [which is even more weird]

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:haveing problems playing a game with out it either randomlly crashing the game...

first of all is this limited to this game alone?do other games run fine?check for any overheating signs, install the latest drivers for your video card and your mobo, direct x and any other update.see if you meet the minimum requirements for the game.(this was just the official response you would get from a techie..so bear with me)

if this is happening in this game only and not in any other and your pc isnt overheating and meeting the minimum requirements, then there is a good chance its an issue with your optical drive, try a combo drive if you've got any around.its an incompatibility issue with some of the games.good luck

I have an ongoing issue where I log onto the glyph launcher, log onto my server, play for a while, sometimes hours with no issue but then BOOM, the game just closes on me and I'm booted back to the launcher. I have to push the PLAY button again, log into the server again, but it seems once the game boots me out then the crashing becomes more frequent.

I at first reported it to Trion support (useless) all they do is copy and paste previous responses from previous games sometimes not even removing the other game titles from it, but all in all I have spent over a month with them and I have:

1. Expanded my paging file to initial size of 1X RAM size max size 2X RAM size (to handle the memory of the game)
2. Switched from DirectX11 down to DirectX9 and back again. (in game)
3. Lowered my FPS (frames per second) to 100 (in game)
4. Switched off Multithread rendering and VSync (in game)
5. They have also had me change the priority of the game archeage.exe to high to see if that helps and it doesn't
( I would start the launcher, log onto the game and the server, go into the character screen, then cntrl + alt + delete into task manager and right click the process and set the priority to high then go back into the game)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,I have a really annoying problem, which is very complicated i think. My Computer Runs WinXP SP3, with fully upgraded directx, ATi RADEON 9700, with correct drivers, 1,5GB RAM, and a SBLiVE soundcard(with correct drivers). The main problem is the desktop runs fine, windows games run fine, i can record with audacity, watch any series without any problems. Honestly this game is built for "old" gaming, as we often LAN with friends. None of the games working correctly, i mean everything has the "micro stuttering" thing. For example when i start a game in Q3Arena, it's ok as long as i don't move, if i do that the game will lag when looking with the mouse. The same happens with COD1,CODUO, NFSMW and even with doom at it's default resolution! I'm really mad, cause i tried everyrthing, change monitor refresh, change monitor, reinstall drivers, change keyboard&mouse, all game on lowest setting (when i click optimal setting in game it sets to the highest, this config should be able to run them on highest i agree), but no luck. Can you guys give me other ideas?By the way a friend of mine has a computer with worse specs than mine and can run cod,coduo,q3 perfectly. I don't see the point why mine shouldn't be able Specs:Winxp SP3Intel P4 1,7 GHZAti Radeon 9700SBLive1,5GB RAMLatest DirectXMicrosoft Compatible Mouse&KeyboardMSE

I'm not new to game crashes by any respect but these have me puzzled.
I tried to play "Plane Crazy" on my computer and I get a black screen with plane sounds from the intro playing before it simply crashes into unresponsiveness where I have to do alt-ctrl-del to pop up that box to close it.
I tried to play "Need for speed: Hot Pursuit" and aside from the menu to chose to run the game it never starts.
I tried to play "Crimson Skies" and it freezes up totally after playing the intro song. Even the A-C-D doesn't work.
VGA games work fine.
I don't play the latest greatest games. I'm more of a racing/flying/rpg game player than a FPS player. (As FPS's tend to make me nauseous for some reason when I play them)
I did not use to have these problems with the computer when I was running my ATI Radeon 9000 videocard with the original 512 megs of ram installed for memory.
Now I have a ATI Radeon(by visiontek) X1550 with 1 gigs of ram for memory.
Any thoughts?

This is a brand new computer I just bought and put together yesterday, It is driving me crazy why it keeps crashing and restarting! It crashes when I let it sleep for 10+ Minutes the monitor just wont turn on when I try wake it up so I have to force restart, it randomly restarts when I use IE... etc.

I have tested and switched out the graphics card from my other computer to see if the graphics card is the problem but it still randomly crashes. Then I switched out the memory sticks to different slots and it still crashes! I did a memory test on both of them, 1 stick at a time and then both together. All 3 memory tests came back error free... So its not the memory sticks? But for some reason when I only use 1 memory stick (any of the two) the system does not crash? the memory and motherboard is compatible because I checked Corsairs website for RECOMMENDED memory for my motherboard so I purchased it.

It is too weird how both memory sticks run fine alone, but when I put them both together thats when the crashing and restarting happens. I have yet to install windows 7 updates yet incase of more problems but for now this is what I got from my las... Read more

In the last 4 days i have been experiencing crashes while playing MTW2 whilst on the battlemap.

It started with the screen flipping back to desktop, as though ALT TAB had been pressed, no error messages,
i just clicked the MTW2 icon on the side bar and returned to the game.
Next the above mentioned behaviour started being accompanied by a message saying
"MM driver has stopped working" - since yesterday this message has stopped appearing.

Last 2 days, whilst on the battle screen MTW2 just crashes with the Win 7 message box that says
this program has stopped working. It crashes all the time know whilst playing, but not immediatly,
about after 15 - 20 minuetes on the battle map.
Other events.
Recently on boot up a box entitled "AML device install" would briefly appear after windows has loaded,
i have disabled this in MSCONFIG - following web site advice.
Power cable from wall socket to PSU blew, never had this before, simply replaced it. It was about 5 years old.

A:Game crashing

Have you actually tried to reinstall the game?

(And for the sake of clarification, with MTW2 you refer to Medieval: Total War 2?)

And if your power cable blows up, that's pretty bad. No idea what could cause that, if it's just a cable without anything else. But your PSU, 520W, isn't too much.

Keep these things in mind;

PSU usually gives less power than in the description. And then, if it's old, your capacitors are getting worn out and your computer will get lot less power than it's supposed to.

However, if your computer wouldn't get enough power, it would crash completely and you'd get constantly overheating issues. But just in case, do you have anything to check your temperatures with?

The games that I have played recently that crash are Hitman 2 in particular, sometimes fm 08 and always warcraft 3.

Could you possibly post some more info on your system :

Which version of Win ? How much Ram ? What CPU ? What version of Direct X - you can check most of this if you :

Start > Run and type DXDIAG then look at the interface that appears.

Are you shutting down all non essential apps before starting these games as other things like Anti Virus progs will hog your resources. Especially as onboard graphics is using your system ram to function.

Its also worth considering that with such intense games you are likely to need a dedicated graphics card.

A:Game crashing !

this from activision

Make sure you have the latest video and sound card drivers from the manufacturers' websites.
Set your desktop to a resolution of 800x600, 32 bit True Color.
1) Right-click on your desktop and select Properties.
2) Click the Settings tab.
3) Set your screen area to 800x600.
4) Set the colors to 32 Bit (True Color). Under Windows NT this will be listed as 65554 colors.
5) Click Apply and OK.
All background applications must be shutdown prior to running the game.

Delete the options.cfg file from the directory where you installed the game.

I sort of have an idea why my games crash, but not entirely sure.

And when I say games crash, I mean EVERY game I've played on my new laptop has crashed at one point or another randomly.

Manufacturer: ASUS - A8JP Notebook
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00 GHz)
Memory: DDR2 200-Pin Notebook Memory (1 GB)
Hard Drive: 5400 RPM (120GB - 65 & 45 GB Partitions)
Video Card: ATi Mobility Radeon X1700 (256 MB)
Sound Card: SoundMAX Integrated HD Audio
Operating System: Windows XP - Media Center Edition

Anyways, ATi decided to be retarded and release the X1700 Radeon, only to tell users that it is not developing any drivers or updates for it.

So, using the OEM driver from ASUS does not help and modded driver (while improving performance) still give me crashes.

Any ideas? Or is this problem way too broad as I fear it is.

Hello there,

I have been experiencing an issue with my Dell Vostro 1510 Laptop for quite some time now. Whenever I play certain games, 3 maybe 5 minutes go by and my laptop starts to lag heavily. It does not have to be an online game, but this is what it looks like- very heavy lag and I cannot continue to play. This lasts for about 8-10 seconds and stops for about 30 seconds, then repeats again and again. Along with this lag, I get a strange scratchy sound from my speakers like the original background/whatever music from the game, except very distorted and scratchy. Like I said, it will do this with certain games (such as Stronghold Legends or GunZ Online) while other games it does not effect (Counter-Strike or Grand Theft Auto).

My computer is CLEAN of viruses, spyware, malware, etc. All of my DirectX, java, or anything else is up-to-date. I got this laptop from my college about 2 years ago, and it has on it:

OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic SP1
CPU/Ram: Intel Core2 Duo CPU 2.001 GHz / 3069 MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Sound Card: Realtek High Definition Audio

I'm not sure what is causing this, and why this is happening on certain games and not on others. I hope there is someone out there who can help point me in the right direction for getting this resolved. These "lags" are very annoying and I cannot play some of my favorite games with this.. Thanks for the help in advance!

Is it the sound in my laptop that is causing this freezing??

Hi, lately my PC used to get BSOD about "Memory Management" and also saying that an unauthorized change was made to the Operating System; however, that seemed to have fixed itself, especially after I cleaned the huge amount of dust in my case and fan.

There is another major problem that remains unsolved. This only happens sometimes, and other time my PC runs perfectly fine.

When I was playing League of Legends or Mass Effect 2, sometimes once the game loads my PC tends to crash, and the monitor loses its signal.

When I restart my PC, there are often either whitelines/blacklines a couple inches apart horizontal across my monitor and sometimes blue dots lines up vertical on a black screen on my monitor.

I have figured it could either be a faulty power supply, or a faulty graphics card. I would really like to get this problem fixed. Thanks!

I wonder if it would be helpful to note I did a complete reformat to try and fix these problems before with no avail. I also have not used this desktop in around 2 years (it is still a good rig). The motherboard was also replaced by Gateway for repairs 2-3 years ago.

My system specs are as follow:
OS: Windows Vista
Ram: 6GB
Processor: 2.66 Ghz Quadcore Intel
Video Card: ATI Radeon 4850 HD

If you need any other information, just ask.

I just downloaded/installed CS Source, whenever I open up the game it freezes on the loading screen then I get the following error - The instruction at "0x106ae32c" referenced memory at "0x0e42a1a0". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program.

I have tried
-Reinstalling CSS and HL2

I have
-ONE 2Gig stick of ram
-Latest sound and video card drivers
-Latest DirectX

I tested my computer and it passes the minimum and recommended requirements for the game with flying colors. I run CS 1.6 just fine.

I've read all help forums about this problem and it seems as though none of them provide the answer to my problem, any help is greatly appreciated.

Recently my pc has started acting up, so i decided to wipe it clean.
After reinstalling Windows 7 pro 64, i updated all my drivers and reinstalled my games. However, after a minute or two in game, in either game, it will crash to my desktop. Niether program prompts a crash report. Both crash in identical ways. I use AVG Free, and Windows Firewall, i have added exceptions for both.

My graphics card is HD4770, and im running catalyst 11.2
The games im playing are not that intense, Rappelz a MMO and League of Legends an RTS.

I have made no changes to any of my hardware, and i have run several driver detection programs to ensure i didnt miss anything.

Win7 says i have DX11 installed, and my card only supports 10.1 (however, i was able to play like this before, so i assume its backwards compatable). What i have tryed, is to download directx from microsoft but only to get an error on install. "Check to make sure cryptographic services are running" and i did, and they are.

any ideas?

Sounds like it could b a dodgey grafix driver. Goto the manufacturer website and download the latest driver. Could also b a memory problem.

Goto c:\windows\minidumps, get the latest mini dump and post it here so i can analyse it.

I have a crashing problem. I recently purchased Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. So far I've gotten about 10 minutes of gameplay after like 50 attempts of tryin' to play the game. For some reason I can't figure out why the game will just crash a blue screen flashes for like a split second and the computer automatically restarts. No warning at all... just kaput it crashes. Very annoying. I've had a recent problem as well... I had my computer fixed by a friend, but he's no longer in town. It worked for about 2 hours... then my bro did something in msconfig and totally screwed something up. So... i couldn't recover from that so I attempted to format and reinstall myself. Somehow I succesfully did this. ... But... same ol' problem... still crashing. I've tried downloading the lastest drivers for the sound card, (Creative Audigy Gamer) and video card drivers ( GeForce 3 Ti 500)... everythings running on a 1.2 AMD 60GB HD... and Win XP... everything worked well before the reinstall... except for the game problem of Need for Speed... I didn't have it before my friend helped me out with it... If anyone has ANY suggestions I'm willing to try any of them!!! Thank ya

A:crashing when any game is played

You probably have a cheapo power supply(or just a low wattage model) that doesn't have as much power as your system will require. Check the brand, wattage, and amperages per rail(12v, 3.3v, 5v, etc), and post back if you can. The Psu(power supply unit) is in the top back corner of the case usually, so you'll have to open the case to look at it.

Edit: Welcome to Techspot BTW.

Your error code (109) could be caused by a driver or hardware. Please run these two tests.
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
1-Memtest.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

2-Driver verifier

Okay, so I've googled this problem and have no idea what the problem is:

So my game (Guild Wars) constantly crashes to desktop now, and I haven't done anything to the software/hardware/anything whatsoever between the time it was working fine and from when it began crashing. Whenever I go off for the night and come on the next day it lets me play the game for an hour or two, then it crashes. Once it crashes and I try to open the game again it only lets me stay on for a few minutes at a time. I've rebooted in between crashes; it doesn't let me stay on for more than a few minutes after the first crash anyway. I go to sleep or give it hours of time and then I get an hour or so of gameplay again (everything starts all over). I've put a fan next to my graphics card in my open computer but it hasn't helped.
My card is an Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT and my computer has 1 GB of RAM.

If anyone can offer help here I would really appreciate it, thanks!

A:Game crashing to desktop...

It certainly sounds as if it's an overheating issue. It may be your CPU, RAM or hard disk drives as well as your graphics card. Check that all your cables are secure and plugged in tight. Also put and reset your RAM and PCI cards as well to be sure nothing has vibrated lose.

When I first got the "Sims 3" game every time I tried to play it, it would crash. Later I learned that I didn't have enough RAM and that I needed to upgrade my graphics card. I took my computer to a shop and got another gigabyte of RAM and I bought a better graphics card. Then I went to "systemrequirementslab.com" and it says that I now meet and exceed all of the requirements for the game. But every time I play, the game closes about 5 minutes into gameplay. An error box would pop up saying that an error had occurred and that the game needed to close. I made sure that my drivers and my game was up to date. I tried lowering all of the game settings and putting the game in window mode, but it still crashed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game twice. I even turned off my Norton anit-virus program, because some people said that the program might cause conflict with the game, but that didn't work either.

Here are some of my computer specs:
- System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3)
- Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz
- CPU speed: 3.08GHz
- RAM: 1023.4 MB (around 2GB)
- Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series
- 98.3 GB of space left on my computer

If somebody can PLEASE help me, I would really appreciate it.

I hate to have to tell you this but a lot of people are having the same problem. If you haven't yet you might want to go to the Sims 3 Community Forum. There are a lot of people there offering solutions to problems like yours. In fact EA/Maxis has released a patch but you can only get it by using the EA Download Manager. Sorry I couldn't be more help but hopefully you will find it at the Sims 3 Forum.
