Windows 10 Quick Access Disappears on Startup

Q: Windows 10 Quick Access Disappears on Startup

I upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago and the Quick Access menu was working normally. A few months back however, all of the pinned items disappeared and I cannot pin anything to the quick access menu either. I've gone through all the posts and different solutions I can find and all I have been able to do is temporarily fix the problem by deleting the "5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms" file in the C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations folder.

Deleting this file does bring back the quick access folders that I had pinned before this problem started to happen, but every time I restart my computer, the quick access menu is again empty and nothing can be pinned to it.

I have googled and tried all of the different solutions that I can find so any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Windows 10 Quick Access Disappears on Startup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is what i did in order to create a new toolbar:
Right click on quick launch -> Toolbars -> New toolbar -> I selected a folder

However after a restart of windows 7 the toolbar disappears. I searched for a solution but couldn't find one that works.

A:A windows pops up at startup on the taskbar then disappears

Greetings, and welcome to TSF.

Your log apprears clean, so we'll need to look a little deeper.

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3 http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download. Learn how to use it at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=easytouse. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to 'System Testing' on the menu and choose 'Full System Scan'. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies. If you have problems copying the text, look (or search) for a file named scandump.txt and see if that has the alarms - post that here.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Hello, im new here

The quick launch disappears when I reboot. Then I have to re-enable it with

"%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch".

I read another thread that says the clue is to do this:

"go to Start ?> Run ?> regedit

and find the following key:

On the right hand pane select NoSaveSettings and make sure its value is 0."

This thread is for XP, but I guess it is also a solution in windows 7 also.

I tried to do this, but I only have up to policies. Policies is empty.

Somebody know something about this? How to get the quick launch to stay, not disappear?

Hi all,
Previously I had my computer setup so that the QUICK LAUNCH toolbar would display program icons when my computer was started. Now, whenever I reboot, the toolbar disappears and I have to right click on the task bar, select toolbars, and select Quick Launch.

Any ideas why this may be happening or how to prevent this from being removed each time. I tried locking the taskbar, but that didn't help.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Dimension 8250.

A:Quick Launch disappears when rebooting (continue)

To help guys with similar situation after trying all the methods spelled with the previous post
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp...rebooting.html, do the following:
1. check that the path "C:\Documents and Settings\ <whatever profile/username> \Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch" existed
2. if it isn't, most likely thats the cause of the missing "Quick Launch"
3. do this: re-create (mkdir) the folders according, then goto check the "show quick launch" to enable the feature again!

The most likely explanation for the missing folders is due to some programs which includes viruses must have deleted those folders.

Gd luck!

Hello Domenek,

You might see if these steps may help.

Quick Launch - Enable or Disable9. Now that you have Quick Launch on the taskbar, you will need to save your current theme (step 4 at this link).
NOTE: If you make any changes to your theme, you will need to save the theme afterwards, or you will lose Quick Launch the next time you restart the computer.

10. If you have a 32-bit Windows 7, then it has been reported that you may need to turn off UAC if Quick Launch is disappearing on you after every restart.

Hope this helps,

I recently reinstalled Windows 10, and Quick Access is not working properly. I have followed advice online and tried, multiple times, deleting the contents of %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations and %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations but it makes no difference. I have also tried disabling and reenabling both Quick Access options in Folder Options/Privacy, and clearing the history from there, but nothing makes any difference. I have rebooted multiple times with different options set.
Here are the symptoms.
Quick Access appears at the top of the Navigation Pane in Explorer, as it should.
The same four items appear in the list in the Navigation Pane under Quick Access, whatever changes I make. If I pin anything to Quick Access, it does not appear here. The four items are Documents, my %userprofile% folder, This Computer and a folder in my user space that no longer exists on my PC - I renamed it to avoid it reappearing, but it still does.
If I "unpin from Quick Access" these items, they disappear, but reappear after rebooting, though not necessarily immediately.
In the Quick Access folder, under Frequent Folders, I do see other shortcuts that should be in the Quick Access list. I currently have nine folders in Frequent Folders but only three in the Quick Access list in the navigation pane. If I unpin all the items that are showing in the navigation pane, they are not replaced by others in the Frequent Items folder - so the ... Read more

Hello everyone! I hope you can help me today, I've been having a problem that's been driving me up the wall.

I have my "Documents" folder under Quick Access when I open the File Explorer. Every time I open a folder within the Documents folder that is sitting under Quick Access, it opens multiple folders. Sometimes it'll open one extra folder, sometimes two. For example:

Opening Documents > then Adobe, the Adobe folder will open in a new window. Sometimes it'll open two new windows.

This only happens for the Documents folder under Quick Access. If I go the long route and open Documents by going to Users > [Username] > Documents, it opens folders within the same File Explorer.

No other folder under Quick Access has this problem. If I Unpin the Documents folder from Quick Access, and add it again, it continues to do this.

I thought this was a sign of a more serious problem, so I rolled back to a previous Restore Point. Nothing changed, still having the problem. I ran Avast and Malwarebytes, and they didn't come up with anything. I've tried sfc /scannow under an elevated command prompt and although it did fix errors, it didn't fix that problem.

A:Quick Access, Documents, multiple windows

Hello rinarunine,

Something you could try is to restore default options for your folders. Type Folder options into the search box and select File Explorer Options. In the window that opens press the Restore Defaults and see if this fixes it. You may have to change some of the settings back again if you had previously adjusted them but it might sort out the problem.

Hi everyone,
After upgrading my Lenovo Z51 to Windows 10, the file explorer also has a slight change to it. There's a new section called Quick Access, which I assume is used to replace the Favorites section that was once present on Windows 8 and 8.1.
Quick Access worked for me, though it was kind of irritating how it would always automatically add the last folder I visited under it. However, about a day or two after I upgraded I noticed that this happened:

For some reason quick access has been empty ever since then and I can't seem to add anything to it. I even tried adding things manually, but apparently all I get is an error message. For example, if I pinned the downloads folder, I get an error popup saying "C:\Users\[MyName]\Downloads already exists.
How can I fix this?

On Windows 10, Acer Quick Access ignores system color profile. For example:- go to colorcpl.exe, install some ICC profile and set it as default;- reboot the PC (or log out) and look at your screen color changes while PC is booting;- you can see that Windows successfully loads your ICC profile, but then, in 1-2 secs, Acer Quick Access drops screen color to its default value (or to yellowish if Acer Bluelight Shield is enabled). Formally your ICC profile stays enabled in colorcpl.exe, but it doesn't actually work until you re-enable it manually.I think this is a bug. The issue is present even if Bluelight Shield is disabled. The only way I found to resolve this issue was to disable Quick Access autostart. This makes Quick Access almost unusable for those who use ICC profiles. The issue was not present in old Quick Access versions for Windows 8.1 (without Bluelight Shield).Posting here in addition to the support request.Acer Quick Access 2.00.3006_W10x64_AWindows 10 1607 x64Acer Aspire VN7-791G 71H2

And that is.......When we go to click the Start-up Tab in the System Configuration Ultilty which brings us to all the files on Start-up, we do see all the files but, the page disappears after about 5 seconds, it acts like it is timing out.

This quick disappearing act does not give us a chance to find the file and unclick the Wild Tangent file to solve our problem.

How do we fix the Start-up so it will last more than 5 seconds?

Hi there,Just to drop by a piece of advice - Spybot Search & Destroy is no longer recommended as its performance is very poor, and the TeaTimer function interferes with malware removal. Two better alternatives for anti-malware software are Emsisoft Anti-Malware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Both have excellent track records and offer real time protection if upgraded to paid version, and can be used alongside existing antivirus software.

Hi all. Two problems, related in timing.

On July 1st, I made some adjustments to my startup config and such, and ever since then I've been having problems where my IE and Windows Media Player freeze for a few seconds when loading (though without interrupting data)

But most important of which is that since that time, my HP Factory Image D:\ drive has disappeared. It never served me any purpose, but it always just sat there in my Hard Disk lists on my Computer screen, and is conspicuous in its absence.

I checked my Disk Management and found that the 12 GB where the "D" drive was had become "Unallocated". Before I did something stupid, I checked to Rescan Drives, and it re-found the Factory Image! From then on, the FACTORY_IMAGE (D shows up in my Computer.

But after a few days I found that it was no longer showing on my Computer window, and realized that after restarting or shutting down my comp, it would always disappear, only to re-appear when I rescan my disks.

What's the problem? What service do I need to restore/fix to stop this from happening?

Somewhat related question: Would getting a whole new motherboard and CPU but retaining the old harddrive end these problems mentioned above or is it something to do solely with my faulty configurations?

A:Adjusted startup: HP Factory Image drive disappears after each restart

before you start spending money or mess your machine up any more--go into MSCONFIG and select the normal startup button then restart to see if problem(s) are gone

I need to save a new version of my video. I am denied access to the file (I am the owner, administrator, only user on computer). I try to change the permissions by right clicking the file>properties>security> etc. Then, when I attempt to resave the video--the original has disappeared! A search on the computer tells me that the shortcut to the video is gone...How does this happen? How can I keep this from happening? How do I get rid of "permissions" forever? I am using Vista 64.

Windows vista enterprise edition on start up shows an error rundll32.exe,
error message saying "windows cannot access the specified device, path,or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

A:Rundll32.exe error on startup error message saying "windows cannot access the specified device, path,or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

Please click start, type msconfig and press Enter.
Under the startup tab, find the item reads like RUNDLL32.EXE, c:\windows\system32\xxx.dll and uncheck it.
Save the change and restart.
Or you can modify the registry by loading registry editor.
Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Deleted the RUNDLL32.EXE, c:\windows\system32\xxx.dll

I am aware that the start up menu has been moved from msconfig to the task manager in Windows 8. However, I am running into issues because I have other third party software starting up with my computer such as Norton internet security, Dropbox, etc. But those processes do not appear within this tab and never have. I would like to find out, is there an alternate way of accessing these entries in order to either enable or disable them?

A:Cannot access all startup items in Windows 8

Look under Services.

Press Windows key + R, type services.msc and press Enter.
Check Hide all Microsoft Services then look at the remaining ones, see if what you want is there.

All of sudden "on start up" services have stopped working, I have to manually login to get anything running which includes my windows screen calibration profile, I don't have a internet connection ether until I login this is the main issue as this system is set up to for unattended access via teamviewer, I've checked if anything hangs on start up and nothing does, any ideas?

I have been using Windows 7 Pro (64) for several years, and today installed a newly purchased Windows 8 Pro (64) OS. I looked on-line and found many articles on how to multi-boot back to Windows 7 after installing Windows 8, and believe I have done this correctly (more below), but when booting up I do not ever see a multi-boot menu, my system boots directly into Windows 8.

When installing Win 8, I booted from my CD/DVD drive with the Win 8 OS media in the drive. (I had previously reduced the volume of my Windows 7 drive and created a new partition that I called "Windows8". ). At the appropriate time in the Win 8 install I chose "Custom", then chose the newly created "Windows 8" partition, then proceeded with the Win 8 OS install. As mentioned above, I do not see the multi-boot menu when booting up, however when in Windows 8 I can see the Windows 7 drive in "Computer", so it was not over-written.

I looked through the forums here and found this post:
Startup Options - Choose a Default OS to Run at Startup in Windows 8

and am wondering if I should try Options 2 through 4 (1 of)? I build my own PCs so know something about PC's, bt not much about booting to an OS.....

Another options might be installing a third party boot manager, which I have not yet done, but if this is an idea I should pursue then any recommendations would be great.

Thanks- my reason for getting back to Win 7 is to be able to use the PC while I learn and setup W... Read more
