Blank screen of death while wake up from standby/turning on the screen

Q: Blank screen of death while wake up from standby/turning on the screen

Hi everyone,

From last few weeks I'm having this strange and annoying blank screen of death. I could just see a blank screen (not a blue screen) while either waking up computer from sleep or while trying to turn on the display by moving cursor/typing something(waking up from power saver mode of display, I set display to be of after few minutes of inactivity). So essentially screen becomes total blank. Just once or twice I saw this BSOD "DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE" but for all other times my screen is just blank. I could see the Hard Disk activity LED on during this blank screen. And almost after all subsequent boots, I could see "Windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown/serious error - Check for solution" message.

System - Windows 7 Pro x64 with all latest recommended and security updates
CPU - i7 2630QM
GPU - nVidia GT525M
MoBo - Factory default for Dell XPS L502X

First I suspected its because of my nVidia GT525M GPU drivers (I was using official latest drivers 320.49), so I completely uninstalled them with regular uninstall + DriverSweeper 2.1.0 from Guru3D.com. I did not install any nVidia/display drives since then. But just now I got another blank screen after it. Also I started connecting my PC to an old Sony Bravia TV with HDMI cable and that time the automatic installation of drivers failed. That is my second point of possible problem. I've been using CCleaner to clean the unwanted registry entries and revo uninstaller for almost every uninstallation. Still the issue persists. Thats why I decided to write this post. I am attaching dump file I just created using SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe It would be great if anyone could help or give any comments.

Thanks a lot!
Cheers,

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Here is the issue, when my computer goes to sleep after it's on for a while when I move the mouse to get the screen back up it shows the backround no icons or anything to click.
Same if I turn it off and turn it back on. I have to turn it off and on many times then go to safe mode and shut down then turn it on again for it to work. Just now I had to turn it on/off 4 times for it to show the icons and task bar. Usually it is left blank with nothing to click having no choice but to turn it off.
Norton says no viruses.
My computer is HP with windows 7. I bought it in 2011.
This problem has been happening for a long time. Please help.

Hello squirrels and welcome to Seven Forums.

I think I'd start out by trying to do a startup repair. It's been suggested that the startup repair be done 3 times (regardless of what the notifications say) and the computer rebooted after each repair.

If this doesn't fix the problem one of the Forum experts has prepared these troubleshooting guides with some additional suggestions.

I am getting the blue screen of death coming out of hibernate and standby modes on my desktop running xp pro sp3. The error is as follows:

kernel_stack_inpage_error Stop: 0x00000077 (0xc000000e, 0xc000000e, 0x00000000, 0x007a2000)

The hard drive I had windows installed on recently crashed, so I reinstalled windows on another hard drive and after getting everything up and running I started getting the BSOD... never had a problem with my previous install of xp on the other drive.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or need additional info.

Good day.

Ive been having some problems, lately. It started when i installed some updates via microsoft update. I cant recall what i installed. but since that update everytime i try shutdown or put the computer on standby it goes to the blue screen of death and it dhows this message "power state driver failure" or something like that. Anyway ive been searching google for this problem and foun out that this problems cause is written in a minidump file created by windows itself. Ive attached a minidump file and i hope some one will be able to see what the problem is here. BTW, im using a laptop, and a laptop which cant be put on standby isnt a laptop at all, so i really hope you can help me. Ive uploaded the minidump on a rar file, so remember it requires winzip or winrar to extract it and see the minidump file. My laptops name is a Compaq Presario CQ60 210-EO, and im running vista home premium, i have 3gb of ram, and a geforce 8200m.

I had figured that MS would fix this in SP1 but it is still the same on my HP laptop (Vista Business, T7300, Mobile Intel 965 Express chipset).

After a standby (sleep) or a timed-out screen blank, my display brightness changes back to the pre-programmed level (of any particular power plan), not the level at which I have changed it to. I'd like to keep the same brightness regardless of standby, sleep or display-off conditions.

Display driver is 7.14.10.1437 2-11-2008 and is the latest.

Only one of the annoying bugs of Vista that persists.

Hi

I have win 8 installed for a few weeks now which I have been working on and off playing in a bios duel boot setup to see if I like win 8. (while keeping my win 7 setup)

Every thing has been fine until for the first time I put the computer into sleep , after I tried to wake it up the computer, started up but the screen was still in the standby state. I then had to do a reset as this was the only way I could get the computer to start.
It went through the boot process and opened to the desktop it a state which showed it had booted from a hibernation state (doc left on desk top open how I left it)
I tied a few options I had read in the forums like turning off "powercfg -H off" and rebooted. but this did not fix anything.
I tried a selective start up in misconfig like a safe mode start and this time when I went to try sleep then tried to wake the computer, the monitor at least started up from its sleep mode but was black (blank)

The win 7 x64 on the duel boot sleeps/wakes fine with no problems. I guess the only difference between them is the win 8 is installed on a SSD

any further information you need please ask

A:Win 8 Pro x64 After wake from sleep black (blank) screen

Just an update, Been doing a lot of searching of the internet about my problem and I was about to give in, I kept thinking it was my GPU drivers. But I was wrong

I was thinking I might have had some ideas off people from my post, but I guess without it crashing and giving a bsod it made it hard to find what was the problem.

Just to give help to anyone else reading this post I think I have found the answer . I though I had the most up to date drivers for my ACHI controller from the Asus website which where newer than what I had installed.

But once I found out that I had a Intel 5 series chipset, I found some more up to date drivers on Intel's website. Even though when I went there before and ran an online scan it did not offer any updated drivers (I guess Asus had changed them so Intel did not know them to update?)

So the moral I guess is if you think you might have up to date drivers maybe sometimes you need to keep looking, Hope this helps someone as this is a great forum.

I've been having lots of problems with my Precision M4800. After getting it back from Dell's support it worked for a while then crashed and refused to boot. Since then I've been trying to get the graphics card running again. I decided to try turning switchable graphics off and on but now my screen is blank.
When I say blank I mean the display backlogged doesn't even turn on. When I power it on, the indicator LEDS light up normally and I can hear the computer working but nothing shows up on the display. I've tried mashing f1, f2, f6, f8, ctrl+alt+enter, delete, Fn+F1, Fn+Esc and f12 during startup but still nothing shows up on the display. I've also tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds. I ran the LCD built in self test and it passed, so the problem 100% isn't with the panel.
If it helps I also ran Preboot System Assesment twice and while nothing showed up on the display, the computer beeped the code 333 both times. This indicates that "PSA diagnostics did not record the system user pressing Y or N after the video test. Please ensure that you accurately answer questions that are prompted during the diagnostic." Unfortunately, nothing shows up on my screen so I dont know whether to press Y or N. I gave it a go anyways pressing N whenever it beeped at me (the beeps before the error code) but it just stopped beeping after a few times.

I have a Compaq V3000 that has been working pretty well until I installed Windows Vista about 6 months ago. Then it started shutting off all the time randomly like 5 minutes after I would turn it on and I got that to stop. Then randomly I came home and my computer screen was black and I turned it off and took the battery out; however, the lights on the keypad stayed on...even the power light. Then when I took out the power cord and put it back it the lights turned off. Finally, after several tries, I got my computer to turn on all the way. Then I turned it back off that night and the next morning it would not turn back on. I have been working on it for over a week now and still get the same outcome. Here's exactly what happens:

I turn my computer on...then the Compaq startup screen comes up...then the screen goes black and when I try to hit F10 or F8, a real fast message comes and goes...it's hard to even read...but it says "Operating system not found." It did this before I got it to turn on that last time too...but then I got it to turn on. But now I just keep getting the same outcome. I got the F10 page to come up one time and I was told that my harddrive looked like it was going bad but they couldn't tell for sure.

Please help! : )

A:Compaq laptop screen goes blank after turning on

Well I see two possible solutions. A. OS problem or B. your HDD is going bad.

So what i would recommend is if you have a old HDD laying around use it and try reinstalling your os on it. if it works then your HDD is probably bad so purchase a new one.

Do you have any external harddrives hooked up to your system?

Answer me about the external first before proceeding

Hello everyone, this is my first post here- before I get into it let me first thank you all for taking the time to read this :)

I'm having problems with my windows 10 desktop. It randomly restarted yesterday with no error message, and when it tried to boot again I was not able to reach the login screen. The blue windows logo shows up and the little loading dots do their circle dance but then the screen just goes blank and hangs indefinitely. The light on my monitors power button turns from green to orange (which I assume means it is no longer receiving information from the computer?).

After I do this a time or two windows boots into repair mode and I'm given the standard array of options. I've tried the automatic boot problem analyzer, I've tried resetting while keeping the files- nothing seemed to help... until at some point in the process of a thousand restarts it 'just works.' I am able to use it a bit then it restarts again with some more of the similar issues, then 'just works' again for the remainder of the day/night with no issues.

I try to turn it on this morning and get the same problem I was having before- I get the windows logo and the loading dots, then blank screen and no login.

I just attempted a complete reset again, this time tossing all my files and starting completely fresh... it got about maybe halfway through the install process and once again I'm stuck staring at a blank screen with an orange power button.

I have had this computer for about four years. It never gave me any trouble.  Last year it completely shut down and it wouldn't turn on. I have scoured every forum, every quick fix, yet nothing. I constantly run across one problem in every one, none of them quite match my problem.Blank Screen, Check.Flashing Orange Wifi Button, Check.Flashing Caps Lock, Incomplete.I see time and time again that there has to be a flashing caps button, but it never flashes for me, only the wifi button. There is also  flashing white power symbol on the side of my computer, but thats it. The Battery is fine, I don't need to hard reset it, trust me, I've done it about 30 times, I don't need to mash the F2 or F11 buttons, It won't connect to an outside monitor, Nothing. Please. I really need to fix this. I have gone through around $1,000 dollars on replacement computers and this is the only one I truly relay on. If you can think of a good way for me to fix this that hasn't already been mentioned, that would be apperciated. Also, side note, Do NOT refer me to support because I have spent over 15 hours trying to contact support and they never help me with anything I need. HP has horribile customer service, but that's okay.

Aight so I've got some kinda black screen of death, except it's happening to me a step earlier than most people who get it. I don't even get to the log-in screen, and after a mediocre little loading bar that appears to be loading windows comes up after prompting me to Start Windows Normally/Last well known settings/safe mode etc, everything just disappears, and goes black. No mouse icon, no loading, nothing to type, it's just blank. Safe mode tries to launch and it'll just lock up at the list of files and not go beyond that. I've googled and looked through the forum at other similar posts but every solution requires being able to take particular action that my machine is incapable of doing, as all it can do is try to load something and go blank.

Any ideas? All I cared about was just having an operational machine until my new hardware shipped here on Thursday (GFX Card and CPU).

The OS is Vista 64-bit, and it's a fresh install on a brand new HDD. I've only installed a GPU driver for my current video card, and a driver for my wireless adapter. Only software installed is Malwarebytes, Trillian, and CCleaner. The last thing I did with my computer was try to insert a CD and launch it. The CD failed to run anything, so I gave up, turned off the system, and went to work. Now I got home and it's going blank.

Currently trying to get my Vista CD to load with boot priority over the HFF, and do some kinda startup repair/system restore, but... Read more

Hello!
Few month ago motherboard of my 7720 inspiron decided to pass away. suddenly the laptop had turned on and when plugging the AC adapter the blue light indicator turned off. I've understood that the motherboard is broken (after discussing with some technicians as well). recently I've purchased new motherboard and hopped that my laptop will be back to life but it won't...
after replacing with the new motherboard the light indicators are turning on and even the quick access buttons are turning on as well but the screen remains black and blank without the fan working! I've tried the following:
1. turning off the laptop and pressing the power button for 15-20 sec without power plugged in.
it helped but the windows logo got freeze and after rebooting the laptop once again it has returned to the same black and blank position.
2. display check (long pressing D) is OK.
3. I've even ran the diagnostics check and it's OK as well.
can it be just a bios update issue?
please help me!

I have twice recently had my PC freeze on me. Everything freezes and Ctrl + Alt + Del does not work to bring up Task Manager. Shortly after, a blank blue screen (no error messages or codes at all appears.) It then takes me to re-start the PC before it appears to return to normal.

Does anybody know what is causing this problem and how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance for your time.

k, it all started a while ago when i stuck a disc in the computer and got a blue screen, 0xf4. turned out to be something to do with a critical process dying. neway thought it was disk drive so i yanket it out. fired it up and away she went, several days later, came back from work, and went to check on some downloads, only to see the same blue screen. was confused but restarted comp and it fired up so i ignored it. then today i found the comp on a blue screen again, only this time the error code was 0x50 which is bad ram, vid ram, etc, or pci card. ran a mem test, ram ok. tried to fire it up, in normal, safe and debbugging.

normal and debug mode gave blank screens, no cursor or nethin. safe spat out the usual clap trap, then stopped and just hung, tried again and got blank screen. i searched google to find that microsoft reckons that the mbr, bootsector or ntldr are stuffed. can boot into the ubcd4win so i fired up the dskprobe tool and it all is jibberish to me, lol. ive tried searchin google to figure out if theres a fault in the mbr but cant find it.

ive attached the mbr from the first sector from the hdd called sector00*blah blah* and the ntfs backup mbr from the last sector called end disk *blah blah*

Google searches redirect to a blank Google page.
And as of the past few days I randomly get the blue screen of death and the computer shuts down to reboot.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate Serv Pack 1

I ran Trend's Housecall which said it was unable to fix the problems that came up. And Malewarebytes gave me a result of Trojan.Agent.BRV.Gen.
I've since uninstalled both antivirus programs and dumped unnecessary/unused programs and files from the computer.

I don't use any P2P sharing programs or anything. I just use this computer for my freelance graphic design work/business , and occasionally my 4 year old plays NickJr games online.

I've backed up all important files/documents to an external hard drive already.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I also have access to my Windows 7 disk, but I've never done a re-install before.

In need of serious help.*
To begin, I am stupid and haven't backed up any of my files so for now a windows reinstall is out of the question. (unless it's completely necessary) okay, so the problem: I was using my computer as normal. Then while on Google Chrome, it started getting slow and said "not responding" this happens all the time, to everyone so I waited and then the dreaded Blue screen of death appeared. Didn't get a look at what it said because it shut down almost immediately. After that it loaded as normal? Which is weird, I think. But got stuck after startup on the black screen of death. All I have is a cursor. Can't do ctrl+alt+del, can't load any of the safe modes. When I go on startup repair, it says "no restore points" on system restore and "could not detect a problem" on system repair or whatever it's called. There must be something to fix this?! :/ I live in hope that the whole system doesn't need to be wiped clean because as I said, I stupidly haven"t backed up my files.*

Can anyone help?? Please?

this sounds like it should be a BSOD thread, post a seperate thread in the BSOD section following the posting instructions for BSODs, make sure you include the dump files, if you don't know how to do that, it should tell you in the BSOD posting instructions.

Boot the computer and press F8 in the Advanced Boot menu choose Last Known Good Configuration.
What is the make and model# of the computer? Go to the manufactures support/download drivers site and download the Chipset and the Video driver for the computer.
Go to Start/Search and type powercfg.cpl. Right click the powercfg results and Run As Administrator. Click Change Plan Settings/change Advanced power settings. Reset your power settings to your liking.

If not, what services do you use, like call forward, messaging, call waiting, etc.

Or does the dedicated line have anything like that that you know of? (or didn't know of)

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Hello everyone.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L450D-13X computer for the kids, and for the price it's a good laptop. Have had no issues with it until two weeks ago when the screen froze for the boys whilst playing a game and downloading a program from the net. Had to do a force shutdown and since then we have a BSoD on every boot-up. This is what we have tried:

On 'Starting Windows' we are given an option of either 'Launch Startup Repair' which ends up as BSoD or 'Start Windows Normally' which reverts back to the 'Starting Windows' option list.
Any attempt to enter 'Safe Mode' results in BSoD.
Attempting to boot an ISO of the Windows Recovery Disk on a USB key (we did highlight it and promote it to the top) results in BSoD. Borrowing a proper Window 7 installation DVD and highlighting this as an option results in BSoD.

In fact, the only option we used that threw up something different was using advanced boot options. On one of these options we got the Blue Screen of Death with the following information:

Unmountable_Boot_Volume
Disable Bios Memory Options such as caching/shadowing

I don't mind erasing the hard drive and starting again, there's nothing on it that's critical. I'd very, very much appreciate a steer on this. Checked the web for stuff and nothing seems to assist in any other options. I am not particularly tech literate but can follow instructions.

Dear all, Happy new year and all

I wonder if you could help...

My husbands laptop this evening will not turn on AT ALL. It was working perfectly well a few days ago:

When the power button is turned on all that happens is the power light turns green. There is no sound coming from the hard drive (the hard drive light doesn't even show). In addition, there doesn't seem to be a fan working. And finally, there is a light strange noise (not a hard drive noise).

I am wondering whether it is a motherboard issue????
Woud creating a recovery bios boot CD help? Would like wipe the hard drive?

The major problem is that the laptop is used for all our business transactions and GASP.... we haven't backed it up, so we could potentially lose very important data
Many thanks and I do hope somebody is out there to help us.

Hello,
Recently my laptop screen had to be replaced due to a cracked screen. Original screen was a Samsung and the new screen is LG. After this, whenever I install Intel HD graphics, windows boots up till the login screen and then goes black, one bright flicker, then completely black again. However, when I boot into safe mode and replace Intel HD graphics driver with Standard VGA adapter, everything works fine, except for crappy graphics ofcourse. I tried installing various old/new/latest versions of driver software, upgrade/downgrade BIOS, install monitor.inf file from lenovo website for this laptop model, everything.
Odd thing: running Dxdiag shows my current display to be 1200x800 (32bit)(1hz).
So, I tried to change the display refresh rate in advanced settings> Screen refresh rate, no luck, no other option except ' Use hardware defaults'. So, I went ahead an modified registry values as given here:
How to Modify the Video Refresh Frequency in the Registry

Again, no use. After I reboot and go back and check, its set to 1 by default.

Tried 4 clean installs, installing on a completely new HDD, Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 , everything..

Is it a screen problem? Or some hardware ID kind of thing?
What should I do ?
Please help!

A:Black Screen/Blank screen after screen replacement

Not all laptop screens are the same. It is important to get a "replacement" screen, not a "compatible" one.

On the back of the laptop screen is a product sticker (you can only read this before you install the screen). On that sticker is the manufacturer and model #. You can use that number to find exact replacements.

How did you come to choose the LG screen?

Hi, thanks for checking my question. I haven't found an answer to my particular situation:

Dell xps m1430 laptop w/vista (32).

It all started with a blue screen w/scrolling text after the fated restart. The blue screen text said "if this is the first time you've seen this message..." and then comp restarted, again showing the blue screen, then restarted into windows repair mode, after repair mode tried to fix the problem comp restarted, then the screen went black / blank right after the little windows loading animation (where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there's a small windows logo).
It all happened fast, so there may have been steps I forgot, but that's the jist of it.

Now screen always goes black / blank during startup after the windows loading animation, so I can't start windows in normal mode.
I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button, so I'm not imploding with fear... ok I am.

Possible causes:
1. This occured right after installing 11 vista updates (that restart was when I saw the blue screen)

2. Also occured the restart after running a patch called "Vista TCP/IP and UAC AutoPatch 6.0" I downloaded it from softpedia, the developer was listed as defcon, and their website listed was securevista.net, but the site is down(I found this out after the problem occured). Today I booted my computer up to be promoted with a black screen, I gave it a good half an hour before forcing it to shutdown, to which when I booted it back up. Was then promoted with a blue screen about the video card not being able to lead, that happened twice.

I then booted it into safe mode, fiddled around with the drivers to see what was going on, after restarting it again, I got the same black screen, this kept on happening. I then concluded my best solution was to install XP, this worked the video card runs. So the card is not dead, but there are multiple blue lines going down the screen in 4 columns. After going into the device manager I saw that it claimed it was not installed, then I went to Google and downloaded the driver, after installing the computers goes to the same black screen that I got on windows 7.

I have no clue what the problem is, so any help would be most appreciated. Also I tried installing Linux, but after getting though then loading screen of the installer, it goes to the black screen. At the moment in am on my tablet so sorry if there are so many mistakes. I'll try and get some photos of how it looks.

Hi Sean,

I don't like to say it, but it sounds like the graphics card is dead. I had the same issue on an old 8800gts, it would work until I installed the drivers, then I would get very bad artifacts/lines down the screen.
I tried it on 2 different PC's with the same end result once the drivers were installed.

Hello.

Just today, I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : \windows\system32\config\system."

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...

Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks very much for your help.

It's a nasty error that requires some persistance and resourcefullness to overcome without a clean install.

If you have a Windows CD or have the recovery console installed, you might want to have a go at these directions.

I have a Dell Latitude 5175 (Core m5-6Y57, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD) which bluescreens during full screen video playback such as Netflix or Windows media player with a Driver_power_state_failure, it doesn't happen straight away but usually after around 10-15 minutes usage.

I checked the minidump file which suggested the Intel graphics card driver was to blame, I updated that to the latest one from Dell which made no difference, updated the chipset driver, bios and then installed the latest graphics card driver from Intel again with no difference, if anything it's worse now.  The issue also occurs when the tablet is docked or when it's not docked although in normal day to day usage, it seems fine.

I've found references to this problem on some other machines, noticeably the Surface Pro 4's but not really any solution.  The next step is to try a clean build but thought I'd see if there's anything else I can try first.  The machine is out of warranty and while it's always occurred I've just lived with it as I incorrectly through the PC had a three year warranty.

I have never seen a screen like this in the 20 years I've had my own computer.

I had Windows 8 on a secondary drive as a dual boot with Windows 7 temporarily as I migrated to Windows 8. I somehow messed up either the boot loader or somehow corrupted the Win8 install for which I'll skip the details for now. But it was just as I was starting to decommission my Win7 install (I removed one drive from the 2-drive mirror running Win7 but figuring the single disk left would still run in a 'degraded' status. It ended up messing something up.).

I've been running bootrec /fixmbr, fixboot, scanos, and rebuildBCD from my Win8 USB stick and it says it completed but no luck on booting. I get either 0xc0000001 or 0xc000021a errors. Auto repair can't fix it.

I tried running this command, "bcdboot c:\windows /s c:", and got the screen shown in the attachment. White vertical lines on an orange background.

The only drives connected is the Win8 SSD sata drive and a DVD drive on IDE. I disconnected the DVD drive and the Win8 flash screen would appear with the circular dots but would freeze right there.

I don't have logs or screenshots to show but the single partition on the SSD is marked as active via diskpart (no system reserve partition), bcdedit shows c:\windows as the default location of the OS, diskpart shows the partition as c:, but the DVD drive is disk0, and the SSD is disk 1. Would that be a problem?

Have you tried putting the removed drive back in?

It looks like a video card problem (hardware) to me - but it shouldn't be that because you're able to use the USB Startup Repair functions (am I right in this assumption?). That means (to me) that it's likely to be a video driver problem (?).

Can you attempt to boot into Safe Mode? If so, what happens?

Hello
Before i describe the problem i would like to make it clear that i would like to recover as much as possible. This problem occurred playing a game called Empires V2.1. It is a steam half 2-death match mod. I had problems in the past however i didn't not consider them problems the screen froze when the game changed map. However when it froze it wouldn't respond to Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Esc or the start menu button. I pressed the power button and restarted it that way. However this is when the problem occurs and i can't over come it. It starts with a normal dell screen and the loading bar crosses at the bottom as normal. Then it goes to a black page with a blue line across the top with white writing saying www.dell.com. A line (programming maybe it appears and disappears rapidly). It then goes to a black screen saying something along the lines of We are sorry for the inconvenience but windows failed to start properly. It then gives you options and no matter which option I choose I still get a blue of screen of death saying the following;

The issue started a few hours ago when I was playing League of Legends, specifically when the game has finished its loading and crashed to Desktop which is a common problem on my laptop. As usual I would restart the game, but before I could do that explorer.exe crashed, my entire Desktop has turned to the familiar transparent whitish filter before the "Explorer.exe has crashed" message popped out, which was peculiar at the time because this is the first time it had happened.

After which, I accessed the Repair menu with the F8 button right after the BIOS loads and tried every option. First, Repair Your Computer did not work as it couldn't find any problems after the first initial repair it did. Syste... Read more

Have you installed anything lately? There could be some program or service doing something that isn't needed.
How's the case temperature? Perhaps it's running too hot.
