Y700 Airplane Mode Hotkey not working

Q: Y700 Airplane Mode Hotkey not working

Hi I just recently got a Y700 laptop( Model: 80NW0010US ). 15" Touchscreen versionJust recently the F5 Airplane Mode hot key has stopped working. It worked when I first received it a few days ago, and all of the other hotkeys are still working just fine. I should probably mention that the F5 key, itself, works. As I can still hit the F5 key and it will refresh the current web page. I can still turn airplane mode on/off through network settings, but I really want to fix the hotkey if possible. I've gone to Lenovo's support page and installed the following:-BIOS update-Energy_Manager_and_Flight_Mode_Driver-Battery Gauge-WLAN-Synaptics-Intel WLAN-Intel Management Engine Interface Driver-Intel Bluetooth-Intel Chipset-Lenovo Utility-Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver I have run the following programs(none of which show anything being infected/corrupted):-McAfee Antivirus-Malwarebytes-Command Prompt ( sfc and DISM ) None of the above helped in fixing the airplane mode hotkey. I will continue editing this post with drivers/fixes that I have tried. Thanks for looking and any help is much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey all! I've been sporting my Lenovo Edge 15 for about two years now. I run Windows 10 and have done so since I first got the computer (I believe when I purchased it I upgraded right away). If you need more specifics I have this PC right here! Airplane mode works if I manually activate it via the wi-fi settings, but the hotkey, F7, won't turn it on/off.  The key doesn't appear to be broken, just the hotkey function it carrys, as using Fn activates the basic F7 function. All my other hotkeys work perfectly. Anyone have the same issue? Know of a fix?

Hi everyone. I recently installed Windows 7 64-bit on a new V310-15ISK which came with FreeDOS. I got all the drivers installed ok, everything seems to be working fine, except for a couple of quirks: 1. Airplane mode hotkey (F7) is not turning the wireless adapter on/off as it should. Instead I get a blank wireless status window which tells me to turn my wireless adapter on first (which it already is).2. Somewhere in Lenovo Energy Management it says it can't give further info about the battery because it's not an original Lenovo battery  (which is a lie). I had to try a few ACPI drivers for the hotkeys to work as there was none on the product support page. I settled on 4eem02ww.exe which is the most recent functional version I found on the web. Can anyone point me to a proper ACPI driver that lets Airplane mode enable/disable the wireless adapter (and displays all battery info)? Cheers.

1. I own a U430 Touch now since a few days. I swapped the HDD out for a SSD and did a clean install of Win10 and installed all drivers offered on the support page. It seems that Im missing the energy management driver (which is required for using the dedicated airplane mode key) with the utility.exe or something but I cant find that energy management driver anywhere. Can somebody point me to a fix for that issue? Or if there is none is there a work around?

2. I noticed that the notebook makes strange static noises which originate from the speakers. No matter if the volume is turned up or down or mute is engaged, the static noise persists. Is this a defect or a software issue? The driver offered on the lenovo support page for speakers is from RealTek.

With the new airplane tray icon, I find that after I resume from a hibernate the icon is not working all the time.

With some testing, I found that if I resumed from hibernate right away then the problem didn't always appear. But after being hibernated a few minutes or more, the problem has appeared every time.

If I turn off airplane mode using the notifications tray icon, the airplane tray icon remains in the tray. I can go to wifi and connect manually, but the airplane tray icon is still there. Hovering over it with the mouse pointer and it says wifi is not connected, even though it is.

In addition, once the airplane icon stops working so does the speaker icon. I can't get left or right mouse clicks to do anything. This behavior of the speaker icon started after the (November) update, which I just installed last week.

Only a restart or shutdown/start clears both these issues.

Anyone else see this?

Before I start my Thread i apologize for me English, It is just from google translate.

My girlfriend's laptop had been a BSOD. This includes the kernel power Event ID 41. This issue seems to be the WiFi driver. Now I want to update it, but that is not the current problem. If I take the laptop out of airplane mode, the screen flickers blue and I can do nothing. If the laptop on airplane mode, nothing happens and operates the laptop normally.
How can I solve this problem? If Annex I added the ZIP file of the dm_log_collector. I hope to have sufficiently informed you with this.

My daughter has a Dell laptop with Win 8.1 this has been broken many times and she's returned it (she bought a 2 year warranty which is good) it's needed the harddrive replaced at least twice. That's not the problem, but the last 2 times it came back from being fixed, it's been in AIRPLANE MODE. this happened the last time it came back from getting fixed, and I googled it and she tried various things, even taking the battery out and waiting and putting it back in. It won't connect to WiFi and says it's in Airplane mode. The last time she kept trying to use it and a few days later it started working okay. This time, I was googling this and found some complicated answers, going in to settings, etc. and also found a lot of other people who were having the same problem and couldn't figure out how to change it. I don't know much about Windows 8, even just getting around in it, I still have Windows 7 and this is what I like.
Is there a simple way to turn off Airplane Mode, or even disable it? There is very little chance she will be taking a plane, or bringing the laptop with her on one, and I think a lot of planes now allow the use of WiFi so it isn't even needed.
Oh, her warranty was up in Aug and she returned it the last time the end of July (it needed the hd replaced for the 2nd time) and they gave her a hard time about this because it was almost up and she'd returned it to have it fixed 2 times before. So, she can't call t... Read more

Most Dell laptops have a physical switch which turns the WiFi adapter On or Off. When the switch is off and there is no wired connection to the Internet, the laptop shows to be in Airplane mode. If the switch if On and the laptop is still in Airplane mode, the WiFi adapter could be disabled. From Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections look at the status of the WiFi adapter; if it shows as 'Disabled', just right click on it and select 'Enable'.

I have a broken screen, which prompts me to disable the touchscreen function so I'm heavily dependent on the keyboard. The problem is I accidentally pressed the airplane mode setting when I was trying to dim the lights of my screen. Since the keyboard is a Bluetooth device, I now can't interact with my laptop (i.e. move the cursor to disable airplane mode). This is the second time that this happen and it's really frustrating since I wish that there's actually an airplane mode button on the sides of the laptop itself for situations like this. I tried downloading ng a hard restart like I did last time, but I still can't get out of airplane mode. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

To connect to wifi I have to wait a while, push Fn+F12 several times to enable wifi connection, wait for connection to find and connect. Since in win7 there is no airplane mode, and in BIOS there are no setting for this, I can?t change any settings regarding airplane mode.
I?ve tried many solutions, but non has worked. Maybe here someone has a solution?
I was thinking of workaround with sendkeys or something like that but I have no experience with that.

Fortunately I haven't visited here in a while! (this is the closest smiley to tongue-in-cheek!)

Here goes......
I'm running Windows 8.1.1 on a Dell Inspiron 15 (3000 series) laptop.

I wanted to take a screenshot and I'm almost sure I pressed "Ctrl" when my cat FLEW onto my laptop. The next thing I knew I was in Airplane Mode (maybe that was Nalah's ulterior motive!). I tried 13 different remedies I found on MS support, Google, etc. but to no avail. What I did learn from the non-MS advice was that this problem is one that MS itself does not know how to fix. Still, having gone without sleep for two days and needing to meet an urgent deadline on a project, I contacted MS support. I admit that I need to have my head examined for spending 9 hours (yes, 9!!!!!) - one of which was spent running a diagnostic that found an error but not one that is connected to Airplane Mode. At that point, the battery on my phone died and I lost the call and spent the next 45 minutes trying to call back. After 9 hours on the phone/chat with them, I was told that if I pay $129 (for a year), one of their senior technicians could assist me. That's when I decided I'd rather pay you!

That being said, the main problem is that I cannot move the slide that turns off Airplane Mode. Obviously, the problem is deeper than just that.

Having a brainstorm (which is a big thing since I'm not very computer savvy), I plugged my laptop directly into the router/modem and, lo and behold, I was a... Read more

Sorry for the question. I removed the USB wireless and the wired connection functions properly now. I had tried warm and cold rebooting to no avail. I had an issue with AVG that was locking up the machine.   I was able to remove AVG in safemode, but after rebooting my laptop, I now have no internet connectivity.  I am running Windows 10.  When I go into the settings for network and internet, I have an option for Dial-up, VPN, airplane mode.   There is no option for Ethernet nor wifi.  When I click on airplane mode and attempt to set the toggle switch to off, it will not move...it simply slides back to the on position.   I've gone into device manager and attempted to update the driver (which is Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11 bgn wifi adapter) and it tells me that it's up to date.  I then disabled it per instructions that I found online, and rebooted.  It reinstalled the drivers, and again says that the drivers are up to date.  Another option was for me to go to properties for the adapter and hit the power managment and Clear off the option that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.  However, there is no power managment tab?!?!?! Also, when I view the Network Connections folder, it is empty.  I'm at a loss.  I've tried everything that I can think of.  My wife needs this PC with internet access to run her online business, but it's utterly useless at this point. I could really use some assistance. Thanks!

Do you have a USB cable going to a UPS battery backup? If you do, unplug it.Try he fixes here:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/windows-10-airplane-mode-wont... If that doesn't work, try unpluging that laptop, turn it over and find the tiny pin hole for resetting the battery, press gently into the hole with a paperclip  until you feel a faint click and hold it for 5 seconds.

Hello
Here's my problem. My desktop computer was working fine. I used it in the morning than shut it down. A couple of hours later, it was impossible to connect to the internet. My router is working because all my Ipad and other devices can connect to the Wi-Fi network. The computer seems to be stuck in "Airplane mode" because i see the "Airplane mode" icon next to my internet acces icon. I can't find any way to shut off this airplane mode!

Airplane mode will show for a number of reasons besides you actually switching it on
Go network and sharing centre
change adapter settings on left pane
What is shown please for wireless adapter and is it an installed card or a usb external wireless adapter

My Acer ES1-521 has had a p rpoblem for the past week.  Wifi does not work because airplane mode is turned on and it can't turn off.  It is running Windows 10.  I've tried:1. turning it off using control panel / network & internet / airplane mode / switch off.  (The switch keeps moving back to the 'on' position)2. Pressing "Fn" and "F3" (which has the antenna wifi symbol) simultaneously.3. Looking for a manual wifi switch which is sometimes on laptops - but this laptop does not have one. I'm out of ideas!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
