Lenovo Yoga 2 13 Ghost Input

Q: Lenovo Yoga 2 13 Ghost Input

I have browsed through this forum archives and I see many users running into similar Touchscreen Ghost Input problem. I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 13 with the very same problem. Unfortunately, the solutions mentioned so far are for other models, with a different Display Unit (LG). My Lenovo Yoga 2 13 came with a AUO display. My product is still under warranty and I've raised a support request too. But could the forum admins here, who helped the other Lenovo Yoga series users, help me with a fix ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have a problem with what might be ghost touches on the touch screen. When playing fullscreen movies it sometimes randomly pauses and/or resumes as if someone touched the screen (or pressed space). Not always, just sometimes. I have found no pattern. Not tied to a specific application as far as I can tell. Also, once earlier today, the display went bananas with crazy ghost touches everywhere all over the screen when i switched to tablet mode. The keyboard had stopped working as well, and I was forced to reboot for it to stop clicking everywhere. Video of how it was like:  https://youtu.be/kkgf48ymeJs I look around and see lots of people having similar problems, but no answers as to what the hell is going on with the yoga touch displays. Anyone know? Model (i think): 80QD0042MX Monitor hardware id: MONITOR\LGD047ATouchscreen hardware ids: HID\VID_04F3&PID_206F&REV_1112&Col01HID\VID_04F3&PID_206F&Col01HID\VID_04F3&UP:000D_U:0004HID_DEVICE_UP:000D_U:0004HID_DEVICE All drivers appear to be up to date. Edit:  Since this was an LG panel, I have now attempted to run the firmware update from https://support.lenovo.com/no/nn/documents/SF15-I0024Perhaps it will make a difference. Will have to wait a bit to find out as I'm not able to trigger the ghost touches at will.

A:Lenovo Yoga 700 (14), ghost touches

Genienamedaki,

It has been confirmed the solution you referenced for ghost touches on the Yoga 3 14 will also resolve ghost touches experienced on Yoga 700 14 laptops. Lenovo is in the process of publishing the LCD firmware update specifically for Yoga 700 14.

I will post again when the update becomes available for Yoga 700 14.

EDIT: Moved discussion from TP Yoga to Lenovo Yoga category.

Thank you,

Hello - I haven't had this computer a week yet and I'm having issues with what I seen posts on for Ghost Touches.  If I leave the laptop idle for a while I can turn around or walk past it to see the screen going crazy.  Like someone is using the touch screen.  If IE is maximized, it is flipping through my favorite bar items, if it is minimized I see the white touch marks on the screen.  I do not know how to fix this.  I have seen other posts for updating but the Monitor is Generic PnP Monitor for the value and not LG.  Has anyone seen this before and can they help me?  I do not want to pay $99 for support.  Thanks!

Seems like the LG monitors had this problem, but I'm here to say that it's a problem for the Lenovo monitors as well. My touch screen will register multiple random touches over several seconds, opening apps, closing apps, switching windows, and making the computer unusable. The LG firmware patch doesn't apply, and this has been an intermittent problem (naturally I'm a few months out of warranty). Is there a fix? Restarting and cleaning the screen have had no effect. Oh god, just please make it stop! How do I disable touchscreen inputs (grrrrrrrrr!)?

Hi Everyone, A few days after I received my TPY 15 with Windows 10, it began to register random ghost touches which close and open windows, pause videos and such.  It typically happens when I power up the computer (startup, coming back from sleep/hibernation), I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if there's a solution.

Hey there, I recenently got one of the Lenovo Notebooks of the Yogaseries, which exactly it is, is stated in the title. However, since yesterday I never had any problems with it, I really like it, the convertible function etc., but it seems, that my display registeres touches Im not applying, it touches like everywhere over my screen and I dont even have my hands on the computer. When I restart it or install the touchpad driver from the supportsection for my notebook, it is okay for like 10 mins and then it goes all over again. I found an interesting solution for a similar problem, its in this thread: https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/documents/SF15-I0024 I have literally the same issue, problem is, the fix which is downloadable there, seems to only work for panels from LG, I figured out the hardware ID from my IPS panel, but I cant figure out where its factured or where I can get a fix for this issue. The ID is: MONITOR\  "CMN14B1" At the moments its okay but I always have this weird box right in the middle of my screen: https://abload.de/img/unbenanntdvscn.jpg Its always like that before it goes crazy like 5 minutes later, I think I have to restart soon again, its really annoying and I really cant do something like that. regards

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hi all, I'm happy with the general touch functionality of my device (using my fingers), but when I use the pen for writing or drawing (in Reader, Drawboard PDF, Word), the input often stops while I'm still drawing a line. I then have to lift the pen up and make contact between the pen tip and the display again. Then, it usually works for some fractions of an inch before it stops again.  Is there a solution to that behavior? Thanks!

I am having continued problems with the so-called "ghost touches" on my brand new Yoga 700. And I would add that this is the second brand new one I have had, as I had to return the first one due to a significant hardware problem.  I have seen this problem discussed with respect to the Yoga 3, and I saw a proposed solution, which had something to do with updating the firmware. I did that, but the problem persists. Any help would be much appreciated. For what it's worth, the ghost touches do not appear unless I have had my laptop open for a little while (at least an hour, typically). Thanks

So, I too am reporting the ghost touch issue with my Lenovo laptop.  This is on the Yoga 710-15IKB model.  Same exact issue that others are reporting on the 700, 710, and 900 models.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled ALL drivers found for this model, updated drivers via Microsoft, have the BIOS update, made countless changes to the touchpad to see if it is the issue.  But, NONE of those things have worked.  The issue appears to happen randomly after waking up from sleep.  Usually within a few minutes after wake.  I can do NOTHING to stop the issue once it starts other than to hard reset the power button, then wait a few seconds and restart.  Once I've done that, the issue is resolved until... whenever it randomly wants to do it again... usually the next day. Lenovo... there has to be a solution to this!  You resolved it with a firmware upgrade on the older 700 model.  Can you work through the issue and get us a solution?  And, please, don't say to send the unit in for repair.  The issue clearly is a firmware issue.

Ghost Touches - I see phisical touches on the screen when I am not touching it. It looks very similar to what you see in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ooSJdcRqyo It mostly occures when the laptop resumes from sleep or extended use. This makes the laptop unusabble and I have to hard reset to get it working properly again.  I have contacted Lenovo 3 times (Every time they have been very friendly and helpful. They also call me imedietly)Call 1 - I let them remote into the laptop. They uinstalled and re-installed some drivers and asked me to try it out. The issues were still there within a day. Call 2 - I reported the issue is still there. They remoted back in. Tried an update on the panel that did not apply. They informed me that the panel was defective and I would need to send it in. They asked me to carry it into my local Best Buy Geek Squad. They sent it to Kentucky for repairs. (I updated the bios, drivers, and reset the device) Geek Squad said that there was nothing wrong and that they updated the bios, drivers, and factory reset (Thats not ture). They sent back the device. (Lenvo has been great. Best Buy is a company I hope I never have to deal with in the future) Call 3 - I tell them that nothing has changed. I have a month old yoga 900 and the ghost touches on the screen drive me insane.  It doesn't happen all the time but some days it'll just spaz out like crazy and ruin all my work.  I have seen in the big post there are a bunch of people complaining of the same problem with their 900's, as well as mentions in other review threads.  The 900 seems to have an LG screen as well, but the firmware update fix for the yoga3 and 700 does not run on the yoga900.  It's linked below:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/SF15-I0024 I tried to open a support case today but all they could come up with is send it in and maybe we'll replace the screen while i'm without it for ~2 weeks.  Seems unlikely that will fix the issue and I don't really want to send it in and have to give them all my passwords so they can login and test.  The firmware update worked for the other models, hopefully if they see it's an issue here as well a firmware update will get released for our models. The hardware id shown in the properties of the screen is: MONITOR\LGD04B4   which seems like it's an LG and probably similarly effected. Anyone else?

If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Hardware & Design
Both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 are built out of aluminum, which gives them a high quality feel to them.  Both laptops have the keyboard integrated into the chassis, which means less keyboard flex. One thing that I find better in the Yoga 920 is the fact that it's all smooth edges around.  The Yoga 910 has pretty sharp edges which means you could scratch your surface or yourself.  The sharp edges of the Yoga 910 was a common complaint, and I'm glad they rectified it.

The Yoga 920 also has a little slit on the display lid that makes it much easier to open the lap... Read more

Hi everyone, I am experience a lot of problems with the touch screen on my Yoga 3 14. It closes windows, opens the keyboard and types, etc. I've noticed it mostly in laptop mode, but that may be because that's how I use it most of the time. For now I resort to putting it into hibernation or having to do a full reboot, and it fixes it for a while but always starts up again. It happens in different places on the screen, usually just one at a time but occasionally multiple touches. I've had the laptop for 2 months and have had the problem since week 1 or 2.  Is there any solution to this besides calling support and having them replace the screen/other parts?

A:Yoga 3 14 Ghost touches on touch screen

hi hucktopia,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your problem might be similar to this thread.

If you barely use the Touchscreen to navigate around, can you try these steps to disable the feature:
1. Press the Windows key? +R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter (this should open the Device Manager).
2. On the Device Manager, click View > Show Hidden Devices and under Human Interface Devices section, uninstall the HID-compliant device touch screen (this is the driver that controls the touchscreen).
    - Sample image

3. When finished, reboot the system and observe.

If the above procedure works, you should be able to use the system normally but I recommend that you report the issue by contacting lenovo support.

OK so I have a number of problems with the fifteen or so ThinkPad Yoga 12 devices we have purchased. Some of these problems are being addressed in other threads (the black screen on start up which requires you swipe the screen in Windows 10 release 2 being one of them), but I'll just start with one problem for now to keep things clear. On my desk I have a ThinkPad Yoga 12. I have a ThinkPad UltraDock Pro USB 3.0 docking station, the newest revision. Connected are an external mouse and keyboard, a LAN cable, and 2 external monitors. The Yoga 12 is connected via the USB 3 cable, and the lid is closed. Both screens are up, LAN and input devices working, everything seems good. Every so often, the mouse cursor will magically jump to the bottom-right of the left external monitor and a left-click event is registered causing the Windows calendar to pop up. Happens maybe twice an hour. All devices are running clean Windows 10 1511 builds, fully patched. Also running ThinkPad System Update to get all latest drivers and latest BIOS revision. Latest DisplayLink driver is applied. Problem persists across all devices. How do we stop the ghost clicks from happening? The issue is driving my users crazy. The docking station specifically listed compatability with the Yoga 12 model so I don't see why there should be a problem. I've heard reports the situation is improved if the lid of the Yoga 12 is left open, but we lose deskspace this way and my users tell me this isn't a ... Read more

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of you computer?

Just some guessing.

Guess 1: I noticed there was some other discussion about "Ghost Clicks" on this forums. Can you check if those clicks are made by the touch screen? Does it shows the Windows animation like someone is touching the screen?
Just in case can you post your full model number and the hardwareID of your monitor.

Also take a look at this article: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-1470/documents/ht1...

Guess 2: There was a driver update for Synaptics that shuts down the trackpoint when you close the lid. Can you check if your computer has a Synaptics trackpoint/touchpad. Check out the version of the driver.

...this are only wild guesses according to what I had read on this forums. But if you tell me that you don't have those problems if you disconnect the Ultradock Pro USB 3.0, maybe the issue is somewhere else.

It is also focused on one specific area of the screen. There were no problems the first day, the problem seemed to start after I converted the machine into tablet mode and wrote notes for 10 mins using Windows Sketchbook and the included pen. I'm running Windows 10, basically just out of the box after going through a few rounds of automatic system updates.I have the most current driver of the Wintab Driver for Wacom Pen 7.3.4.33. I've seen this thread for the Yoga 3 which has reported a similar issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/26944/page/9 The problem goes away COMPLETELY if I disable the touchscreen and returns if I re-enable it.

Model name: 80v6Hardwire Ids: MONITOR\CMN1137If I would have known these touchscreen notebooks were a hassle, I would have never purchased this. It randomly logs me out of my applications and assignments. I am a online student and almost failed my quiz because it exited me out during the middle of taking it. It happens a lot during the use of Windows 10. So i use chrome..it still happens though. Yoga 13 had a firmwire update for their LG hardwire format.... where is our update......? Anybody know if they fixed this issue yet for my model? Thanks a bunch.

So, My ThinkPad Yoga 14 (20DM) has this issue where randomly, there will be randomly screen presses across the screen. This will usually click some link I didn't want to, so it disrupts my workflow. I don't have a precise  way to replicate it, but it feels like maybe it's related to when the laptop is hot? I  don't know. Anyway, in practice, this effect looks just like an issue that occurred for Yoga 3 14s (see here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-3-14-inch-Touch-Screen-Issues/m-p/214... and https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/SF15-I0024 )UNFORTUNATELY, the fix for that laptop model is designed for LG screen panels. Since the ThinkPad Yoga 14 doesn't have one of these panels, the fix will not run for this laptop. Is there a similar fix for this laptop?

Hi I have a Thinkpad TP 14 - 20DM008UUS  and I didn't experience that issue. Can you share your full model number and which Windows version are you using? Just my thoughts... When you said " randomly screen presses across the screen" do you think it cames from the touchscreen? Did you see some "screen animation" like the circle that Windows produce when you touch the screen, or the cursor moving when your issue happens? Maybe it can give you hints on where is the problem. Do you think it can be the Touchpad that when you move your fingers or when you have your palm over it? Or is happens  when you are typing? Since I'm a driver freak, I always try to stay up to date with the firmware and drivers for the machine. If you want to you can also try to update the drivers with Lenovo System Update first. Regartds

Hello, I use online accounting software (KashFlow) and part of entering invoices involves clicking into a date input field.  It is one of those where a little calendar shows when you click into the field.  You can also manually type a date into this field too. However. On my brand new Yoga 920 using Chrome and Firefox the date input fields are greyed out and a red 'no access' icon shows when you hover over them.  But you can still click it and the calendar pops up as normal.  The only difference is you can NOT type into them anymore. When the source for the page is viewed it looks like the fields have been designated 'readonly'. There is no such problem on any other computer I own, even when using Chrome or Firefox.  The date fields work perfectly well on these other computers - even on a Sony Xperia tablet I own. The only browser that works properly on my Yoga is Edge.  The date fields work as they should.  It's just Chrome (my main browser) and Firefox where they don't work. This seems like a Lenovo-based problem.  A little Google has revealed a couple of similar problems with other Lenovo users. Does anyone have any clue on how to fix this?  This is utterly bizarre behaviour and it's preventing me from working properly. I have attached a photo showing the problem when using Chrome.  These fields should never be greyed out. Thanks,Matt
