Lenovo Yoga 2 13 Ghost Input

Q: Lenovo Yoga 2 13 Ghost Input

I have browsed through this forum archives and I see many users running into similar Touchscreen Ghost Input problem. I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 13 with the very same problem. Unfortunately, the solutions mentioned so far are for other models, with a different Display Unit (LG). My Lenovo Yoga 2 13 came with a AUO display. My product is still under warranty and I've raised a support request too. But could the forum admins here, who helped the other Lenovo Yoga series users, help me with a fix ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello - I haven't had this computer a week yet and I'm having issues with what I seen posts on for Ghost Touches.  If I leave the laptop idle for a while I can turn around or walk past it to see the screen going crazy.  Like someone is using the touch screen.  If IE is maximized, it is flipping through my favorite bar items, if it is minimized I see the white touch marks on the screen.  I do not know how to fix this.  I have seen other posts for updating but the Monitor is Generic PnP Monitor for the value and not LG.  Has anyone seen this before and can they help me?  I do not want to pay $99 for support.  Thanks!

Have a problem with what might be ghost touches on the touch screen. When playing fullscreen movies it sometimes randomly pauses and/or resumes as if someone touched the screen (or pressed space). Not always, just sometimes. I have found no pattern. Not tied to a specific application as far as I can tell. Also, once earlier today, the display went bananas with crazy ghost touches everywhere all over the screen when i switched to tablet mode. The keyboard had stopped working as well, and I was forced to reboot for it to stop clicking everywhere. Video of how it was like:  https://youtu.be/kkgf48ymeJs I look around and see lots of people having similar problems, but no answers as to what the hell is going on with the yoga touch displays. Anyone know? Model (i think): 80QD0042MX Monitor hardware id: MONITOR\LGD047ATouchscreen hardware ids: HID\VID_04F3&PID_206F&REV_1112&Col01HID\VID_04F3&PID_206F&Col01HID\VID_04F3&UP:000D_U:0004HID_DEVICE_UP:000D_U:0004HID_DEVICE All drivers appear to be up to date. Edit:  Since this was an LG panel, I have now attempted to run the firmware update from https://support.lenovo.com/no/nn/documents/SF15-I0024Perhaps it will make a difference. Will have to wait a bit to find out as I'm not able to trigger the ghost touches at will.

A:Lenovo Yoga 700 (14), ghost touches

Genienamedaki,

It has been confirmed the solution you referenced for ghost touches on the Yoga 3 14 will also resolve ghost touches experienced on Yoga 700 14 laptops. Lenovo is in the process of publishing the LCD firmware update specifically for Yoga 700 14.

I will post again when the update becomes available for Yoga 700 14.

EDIT: Moved discussion from TP Yoga to Lenovo Yoga category.

Thank you,

I'm experiencing an issue with my Lenovo Yoga 720. I got it in February, this issue has persisted mostly the whole time I've had it, although it took me a while to figure out what the issue was.  There is a patch of screen that doesn't recognize pen input properly, near the middle of the screen, right where I draw. I thought it was palm recognition so I bought gloves, got Lenovo to replace the pen, which was fraying after only a few months of use, until I realized it always happens in the same place and no where else.I sent it in for repair and they claimed "no issue" through email, but I described the issue again thoroughly and they replaced the screen. It seemed to work initially but then stopped working again almost right away.I sent it in for repair a second time, and they sent it back without emailing me saying they could find no issue. I immediately contacted support to complain, spent a long time in remote support as they updated drivers, had me replace pen batteries, and I kept checking the issue, it repeated the same every time. It's still an issue, I had to leave for work. I talked to another service representative today and I guess I'm sending it away for repair a third time. I am so frustrated, this computer was so expensive and it's been broken for the purposes I purchased it for the whole time I've had it. I need it to work, I do digital artwork for a living, and I can't afford another machine in the meantime! It's a week everytime I send it in and frequent... Read more

Hi Everyone, A few days after I received my TPY 15 with Windows 10, it began to register random ghost touches which close and open windows, pause videos and such.  It typically happens when I power up the computer (startup, coming back from sleep/hibernation), I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if there's a solution.

Seems like the LG monitors had this problem, but I'm here to say that it's a problem for the Lenovo monitors as well. My touch screen will register multiple random touches over several seconds, opening apps, closing apps, switching windows, and making the computer unusable. The LG firmware patch doesn't apply, and this has been an intermittent problem (naturally I'm a few months out of warranty). Is there a fix? Restarting and cleaning the screen have had no effect. Oh god, just please make it stop! How do I disable touchscreen inputs (grrrrrrrrr!)?

It appears that my touch and pen input failed today. When it first happened I was drawing in Autodesk Sketchbook, the window deselected suddenly and pen input stopped working. I was without internet at the time.  I thought maybe it was a problem with the pen, at the time I was using Lenovo Pen 2, so I tried the bulit in pen, but still nothing. I then noticed that touch wasn't working either. I checked device manager for any issues, but didn't find any, so I restarted. After restarting I found Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in my device manager. From there I tried the standard uninstall device and scan for hardware changes, and windows hardware troubbleshooter to no effect. That worried me, but I was hopeful. After some googling later on I came across: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Yoga-Wacom-driver-7-3-4-25-seems-to-be-bro... It suggests installing some drivers directly from Wacom, but I am unable to install these drivers as the do not find a valid device to install for. I also attemped to install the firmware update for Touch Input on the X1 Yoga 3rd gen support page, but it fails with the same error. I then did a hard shutdown with shutdown /s, still the same unknown device.Updated bios to the latest version, still the same unknown device.Uninstall the root USB hub controller, device went away, but when scanning for new devices it comes right back in the same state.I also looked for any way to g... I have a 900-13ISK2 Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80UE Yoga laptop bought less than a year ago. It has three year onsite warranty. Since the time I bought it, the screen goes periodically berserk with ghost touches. All my open windows start getting toggled by themselves, random windows open, while some others I am working on get closed; its maddening. Complained to tech; they did some research and replaced the entire LED screen; basically one half of the laptop. Same problem. Multiple engineers have visited me and sat and did all sorts of engineering; no results. In desperation, I even went online and handed over remote access to the online tech support; same result. Now I use the Yoga after disabling touchscreen through device manager;  which kind of defeats the entire prupose of buying a Yoga. They know its a defective piece and a hardware issue; but refuse to replace. What should I do! I am at my wit's end!

Hey there, I recenently got one of the Lenovo Notebooks of the Yogaseries, which exactly it is, is stated in the title. However, since yesterday I never had any problems with it, I really like it, the convertible function etc., but it seems, that my display registeres touches Im not applying, it touches like everywhere over my screen and I dont even have my hands on the computer. When I restart it or install the touchpad driver from the supportsection for my notebook, it is okay for like 10 mins and then it goes all over again. I found an interesting solution for a similar problem, its in this thread: https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/documents/SF15-I0024 I have literally the same issue, problem is, the fix which is downloadable there, seems to only work for panels from LG, I figured out the hardware ID from my IPS panel, but I cant figure out where its factured or where I can get a fix for this issue. The ID is: MONITOR\  "CMN14B1" At the moments its okay but I always have this weird box right in the middle of my screen: https://abload.de/img/unbenanntdvscn.jpg Its always like that before it goes crazy like 5 minutes later, I think I have to restart soon again, its really annoying and I really cant do something like that. regards

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hello, I bought a Yoga 700 ISK14 last weekend and after formatting the disk and installing a clean version of Win10 Pro I am experiencing ghost touch problems with the screen. A short investigation into the problem via this board lead me to the conclusion that I am by far not the only one with this problem and that back in march this year lenovo promised to release an official fix for this problem. Questions:1) Is this official fix available as of now and where can I find it?2) How can I find out if I have a LG screen so that I can apply the "unofficial" Yoga 3 14 ghost touch fix? Thanks, David

Hi all, I'm happy with the general touch functionality of my device (using my fingers), but when I use the pen for writing or drawing (in Reader, Drawboard PDF, Word), the input often stops while I'm still drawing a line. I then have to lift the pen up and make contact between the pen tip and the display again. Then, it usually works for some fractions of an inch before it stops again.  Is there a solution to that behavior? Thanks!

I just got my Yoga 730 15" with a i5-8265U and GTX 1050 and I've been experiencing serious lag while playing games. The most notable problem being a lot of sudden framerate drops and stuttering, in combination with input lag from both keystrokes and mouse input. My question is whether this is due to the computer or due to my game drive being an external M.2 enclosure (SilverStone MS09, same lag regardless of if it's connected to a 3.0 Type A port or the Thunderbolt 3 Type C port). I've concluded that regardless of whether it's on the NVMe drive that it came with or the external drive it has serious input lag, all be it slightly less. The question now is why my device has this input lag in the first place. Thanks in advance.

So, I too am reporting the ghost touch issue with my Lenovo laptop.  This is on the Yoga 710-15IKB model.  Same exact issue that others are reporting on the 700, 710, and 900 models.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled ALL drivers found for this model, updated drivers via Microsoft, have the BIOS update, made countless changes to the touchpad to see if it is the issue.  But, NONE of those things have worked.  The issue appears to happen randomly after waking up from sleep.  Usually within a few minutes after wake.  I can do NOTHING to stop the issue once it starts other than to hard reset the power button, then wait a few seconds and restart.  Once I've done that, the issue is resolved until... whenever it randomly wants to do it again... usually the next day. Lenovo... there has to be a solution to this!  You resolved it with a firmware upgrade on the older 700 model.  Can you work through the issue and get us a solution?  And, please, don't say to send the unit in for repair.  The issue clearly is a firmware issue.

I have a month old yoga 900 and the ghost touches on the screen drive me insane.  It doesn't happen all the time but some days it'll just spaz out like crazy and ruin all my work.  I have seen in the big post there are a bunch of people complaining of the same problem with their 900's, as well as mentions in other review threads.  The 900 seems to have an LG screen as well, but the firmware update fix for the yoga3 and 700 does not run on the yoga900.  It's linked below:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/SF15-I0024 I tried to open a support case today but all they could come up with is send it in and maybe we'll replace the screen while i'm without it for ~2 weeks.  Seems unlikely that will fix the issue and I don't really want to send it in and have to give them all my passwords so they can login and test.  The firmware update worked for the other models, hopefully if they see it's an issue here as well a firmware update will get released for our models. The hardware id shown in the properties of the screen is: MONITOR\LGD04B4   which seems like it's an LG and probably similarly effected. Anyone else?

And I would add that this is the second brand new one I have had, as I had to return the first one due to a significant hardware problem.  I have seen this problem discussed with respect to the Yoga 3, and I saw a proposed solution, which had something to do with updating the firmware. I did that, but the problem persists. Any help would be much appreciated. Like stated in the description. the Lenovo Yoga Control Service require 3% out of the CPU, all the time. and the only thing the service does is checking the orientation of the screen, and disable keyboard and mouse when flipped. This is absurd, especially since it drains battery constantly. I hope that this will be fixed eventually, until that time, I will turn the service off and use the computer like a regular laptop.

The direction of the movement is random and lasts up to about a second after I removed the finger from the tab.Accurat positioning of the mouse cursor is most times very difficult. Especially in application like Outlook (selecting the right folder) or Word (positioning on the correct line). It sometimes feels like I have to 'catch' the mouse pointer. The mouse cursor lags significantly in OneNote when using the stylus. I have already changed the sensitivity of the touchpad to low sensitivity. Has someone else had this issue? Is it a warranty case? Thanks for your help!

So, My ThinkPad Yoga 14 (20DM) has this issue where randomly, there will be randomly screen presses across the screen. This will usually click some link I didn't want to, so it disrupts my workflow. I don't have a precise  way to replicate it, but it feels like maybe it's related to when the laptop is hot? I  don't know. Anyway, in practice, this effect looks just like an issue that occurred for Yoga 3 14s (see here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-3-14-inch-Touch-Screen-Issues/m-p/214... and https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/SF15-I0024 )UNFORTUNATELY, the fix for that laptop model is designed for LG screen panels. Did you see some "screen animation" like the circle that Windows produce when you touch the screen, or the cursor moving when your issue happens? Maybe it can give you hints on where is the problem. Do you think it can be the Touchpad that when you move your fingers or when you have your palm over it? Or is happens  when you are typing? Since I'm a driver freak, I always try to stay up to date with the firmware and drivers for the machine. If you want to you can also try to update the drivers with Lenovo System Update first. Regartds

Hello, all! After weeks of researching, I finally settled on the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen as the laptop of my choice, but, unfortunately, I've seen so many users complain about Ghost Touching on this. And that really makes me want to not buy it, so, my question is, how prevalent is this issue about Ghost Touches?I read the other thread, but it's a bit outdated, and wanted a more recent response.  Like, are my chances of getting the Ghost Touch high or low if I get the product?  Have they fixed the issue in the new batches, or, is it still a huge risk I face?  Thanks in advance for the responses!

Hello, I just received an X1 Yoga 2nd Gen (2017) with monitor "Flexview Display 1920x1080", which is having constant "ghost touches" unless I disable the "HID compliant touch screen" in Windows Device Manager. The ghost touching happens constantly, rendering the device useless while the touchscreen is enabled. It is also focused on one specific area of the screen. There were no problems the first day, the problem seemed to start after I converted the machine into tablet mode and wrote notes for 10 mins using Windows Sketchbook and the included pen. I'm running Windows 10, basically just out of the box after going through a few rounds of automatic system updates.I have the most current driver of the Wintab Driver for Wacom Pen 7.3.4.33. I've seen this thread for the Yoga 3 which has reported a similar issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/26944/page/9 The problem goes away COMPLETELY if I disable the touchscreen and returns if I re-enable it.
