I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

At first I thought this might be a virus, but now I'm really confused as to what it is. I'm giving as much information as I can, because a lot of these results were surprising to me.

- Version of the OS. If Service Packs are installed, mention these too.
Windows XP Home with SP3. HP Pavilion Laptop from early 2005. It can also dual boot.

- If the OS produces an error, either upload a screenshot of the error message (ALT+PrtScrn), or literally quote
the error in your post at the forum (Preferred).
Windows cannot find "logon.exe". Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again..." Then something about locating the file using Search.

- Were there recent crashes that could have caused this problem?
Yes, I tried installing/uninstalling MySQL several times. After the first install, I tried to start up MySQL. However, it prompted for a password, and I entered the MySQL root password. It failed (perhaps I should have entered my Windows password), so I uninstalled it. I reinstalled MySQL, now I get a "Cannot start MySQL service" error. This was because there was still a MySQL service running. I stopped it, but I couldn't get rid of the error, so I cancelled the install. I uninstalled MySQL, but it got stuck at step 2/2 for around 10 minutes, so I clicked cancel. It also crashed Youtube, so I ended up closing my browser (Chrome). The waited another 5 minutes for the uninstall to cancel, but it didn't. I tried to Ctrl + Alt + Del... Read more

You could try running Restore to a save point before this issue occurred. You could also boot from your XP CD and perform a Repair.

Hi,

I have tried to download this program several times, when I download it mbam.exe disappears. I watch the folder it's downloading to, mbam.exe shows up during the installation then disappears...

Anyone ever heard of this....
Thanks

EDIT: Or this happens as well:

Unable to execute file mbam.exe
CreateProcess failed; code 2.
The system cannot find the specified file.

I have tons of trojans that AVG can't delete so I tried booting mbam and this is what happens...

A:Windows cannot find logon.exe ?

My computer keeps giving me this message when it starts up: "Windows cannot find logon.exe - click Start then Search" or something like that. Also I noticed it starts up really slow. I have AVG and it reports lots of Vundo trojans and other bad stuff that may be causing it. I just recently had to have my motherboard replaced and soon will have to have my psu replaced as well, if you think that's relevant

Anyway here's a current logfile (I got one error while doing the log that showed up twice and submitted them, I printscreened it but now it's not showing on my clipboard so I can't show you what it said)

After restarting my PC last night I noticed the OS took much longer to boot and after loading the desktop, I got the error "Windows cannot find logon.exe," and notice the following:Cannot access Start menu (I was able to get this running by clicking properties on the task bar and making some changes and saving)
McAffee Security Suite is not loaded
Drivers are not loaded, including USB and network drivers.
OS System files are running but no username is associated with them. Typically they are loaded by "System"
I cannot complete basic function like drag & drop, paste, etc.
I CAN copy files from command prompt, but cannot copy folders...even with xcopy.
I can load software and use computer management.

I believe this is not from a virus. I installed Windows XP SP2 in May. I made a mistake and loaded the root drive as D:. I've never seen this done before, but I didn't think it would be a big deal to leave it, so I opted not to reinstall.

I setup an Administrator account and a 2nd user account for my normal logon and added it to the administrators group. I also put My Documents onto the E: partition.

After starting Windows, I noticed that the Administrator account was not listed on the logon screen. I also noticed that I did not need to enter a password logging onto my user account, even though I had set one. I wasn't too concerned though, so I ignored these.

Yesterday I created a 2nd user logon account and I switched back and forth betwee... Read more

Good day to all. I would appreciate input / help to address the problem I?m having with Win 7 after I logon to my account. Here are some details of my system and the ?problem?.

1)- Hardware: Notebook, MSI U230 Light , CPU Athlon Neo MV-40, RAM 2G , HDD 250 GB
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium. This is the only OS on the notebook.

2)- The problem occurs in about 10% of all logon attempts ? it does not occur all the time. This is how / when the problem occurs:

3)- Win 7 starts successfully and icons for my two profiles (G2 , G-msi) appear. I logon to my account (G2) and then see the ?welcome? screen, and after a very long period of searching by the system, windows reports that it cannot find my desktop. The Win 7 notice indicates that a file may have been moved , or that the file may have been on a removable media. (Note: However, I did NOT delete, edit, or remove any file(s) or the HDD).

4)- On one occasion, after this problem occurred, windows provided me with a ?temporary account? and desktop and indicated any files that I generated would not be saved when I logged-off. On another occasion when I experienced this problem my desktop wallpaper was replaced with a blue screen Window 7 default. Each time when Windows 7 has been unable to find my desktop, I have shutdown and rebooted and subsequently managed to logon successfully.

5)- It may be of interest to note that all wallpapers / backgrounds used to ?personalize? my desktop ca... Read more

Two similar events have happened to me recently, all while logged into windows; I use only one account on this pc. On both occurrences the Screen flashes black; after that, in particular the first occurrence i was not able to access the admin account via
UAC; Group policy is set to ask for password upon elevation, good and well, but the password dialogue box said that the admin account was locked out. After rebooting, I was unable to login, with the exact same error appearing; A system restore fixed this issue.
Unfortunately I did not note the exact string of the error, and I see no references to it in event log except for this " Event 6000 The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> was unavailable to handle a notification event."  However
the error "description" was quite different error on this second occurrence.
Here are some event errors that occurred during the first error:

200+ Windows 7 Pro machines, similar configuration, 1/4 of them x86, 3/4 x64.
Encountered 6 such machines having this problem: After a restart, user logon stuck at a black screen. In Windows event application log there is an event 'The Windows logon process has failed to spawn a user application'. This application is an in-house developed
application and is called at winlogon\userinit registry key.
A restart into Safe Mode, first logon will experience an auto-restart, then second logon ok. Subsequent logon into normal Windows is ok.

Setting the group policy setting to User Account Control: Behaviour in Admin Approval Mode to 'Elevated without prompt' doesn't solve the problem.

All machines are in workgroup.
There seems to be a relationship between security hardening (through local security policy) and this behaviour but not conclusive because some of the machines encountering the problem had not been hardened.
When I booted a machine under MS DART and change the userinit registry key to call userinit.exe instead of the in-house application, subsequent user can logon correctly under normal mode. Then changing it back to call the in-house application will again
logon into black screen.
Based on these observations, can anyone share what Windows does during Safe Mode to recovery such problem? under what circumstances does it auto-restart after a logon? Can local GPO enforcement corrupt the default user profile?

I have optimum online dsl, I reformatted my hard drive & restarted everything. Everything installed fine. I loaded the drivers for the modem, & installed everything. I try to logon to Internet explorer, I get a error message "cannot find server". I pinged my ip address it went through fine. But, I still cannot connect to the internet. I really need some help.

A:Cannot find server when I try to logon to IE

Sounds like a DNS issue.

Try this: Ping www.sunlitsurf.com.

If that works, then try to ping 12.26.124.6 (the IP of Sunlitsurf.com)

Let me know what happens and we'll go from there....

Hi All,

I have just added 4 computers to my domain. I rebuilt them from scratch so I know they are brand spanking new. Defore adding them to the domain they booted and logged in real quick. Now that I have added them to the domain they take an age to 'load persoanl settings'. Now i realise the first time you logon it has to create your profile but it doesnt appear to get any quick later on. The strange thing is that all the other computers bottup and login just fine.
My question is how can I find out what is causing the problem. I have read elsewhere that it could be a network timeout, or failed or not installed drivers. But How do I find out?

Windows XP Pro SP2 on a Windows 2003 server based network.

Any ideas welcome.

Danny
PS. The anti-virus makes no difference and there are VERY few services and start up items loading on boot.

Hello,

Today I am having many of my windows 7 machines reporting the following error when trying to log into the domain

An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started

Overall, the only changes that have been made were the past windows updates that ran today.

Is anyone aware of a fix for this issue?

I am troubleshooting now, but hoping to save some time by asking on the forums.

Thanks

Hi At my company we have Lenovo L460 with windows 7 and Cisco anyconnect 4.3 - we have a sim card with 4G data connection to a service provider(Telenor). When I have logon screen for windows 7, I can see with FN+F8 that the wireless WAN is "on", but when I try to connect/logon with the cisco anyconnect "start before logon" module the cisco say that it can't see any internet connection. And I tried to wait for 3-4 minutes so all services where running, but no connection.... If I uses the Wifi connection then it just goes smooth... If I logon to windows 7 and then start the mobile data connection at logon to cisco anyconnect there is NO problem.. So are there somebody who can say that:1. Huawei does not support cisco anyconnect SBL?2. Lenovo does not allow you to start a mobile connection before you logon windows ?3. Or something? A lot of thanks in advance!!!!!!!! Regards niels

I have no idea what happened but some people were on my computer this weekend and now whenever I go to logon to sites that bring up the grey login box I get the following blank screen and message, Cannot find server or dns error. I have tried reloading IE and even went to roomates computer and where the site works and changing the settings. It works with Netscape just not with IE. The website in particular is www.intertops.com but there are several others that won't let me logon. Please advise.

We are trying to enable SSO with Smart Cards for Windows 7 and eventually 10. During logon users can see up to six certificates available for logon. This is going to cause confusion for the users. Selecting only the correct certificate will allow the user
successful SSO. It appears that this MAY be the certificate with the Enhanced Key Usage (EKU) that contains 'Smart Card Logon (1.3.6.1.4.1.311.20.2.2)' and has the text under the box where you enter your PIN that says 'Windows will try to connect to the network'
I found an article, below, that gives more options for certificates but these don't seem to offer what I'm looking for.

I used a very simple program in August when the RTM first came out to change the logon screen without having to deal with the registry. Now I can't find it; it was something that didn't require installation, because it doesn't appear in the start menu. Just needed to point to the jpg I wanted and it changed it for me. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Eh, I just found it online again: Windows 7 Logon Background Changer - Customize your Windows 7 welcome screen wallpaper

I have viewed this site for a long time, but this is the first time I needed to post a problem. I do not know if my problem belongs in the OS forum or the Networking forum but hear it is!

I am setting up a new Dell PC with Windows XP Home Edition with 256 megs of memory. I need to manually log onto a Novell network and automatically logon to Windows XP Home Edition. In other words, I do not want the windows logon screen to appear after I log onto Novell.

I have tried Microsoft's article Q315231 "How to Enable Automatic Logon in Windows". The auto logon to windows works, however, it seems to disable the Novell logon screen. When I boot up the pc no logon window appears (Novell or otherwise). I can however, manually log into Novell after XP is loaded.

I need to allow different Novell users to log in to one Windows XP profile. Is this possible? My network admin and I have not been able to figure this out.

I will not be able to test any suggestions until Monday, but I can supply additional information to any post this weekend.

Thank you in advance for everyone's efforts.

Hello all,

This is my first ever post, usually with a bit of searching I can find the answers to most computer related issues I have, but no matter how hard I look I cannot find the answer I need to solve this rather annoying problem.

So here is the low down, I have my desktop PC running Windows 7 Ultimate. I also have a cheap old Asus netbook running Windows XP home edition SP3 (not much on it so it runs ok).

I am trying to share files between them so my Mrs can access the music on my PC.
So far I have been able to access the shared files folder from my netbook on my PC. I can also detect the PC under the Workgroup tab of 'My Network Places' on the netbook.

However whenever I double click on the 'Richyv-pc' icon in the Workgroup folder is comes up with an error message that states:

"\\Richyv-pc is not accessible. You might not have perrmission to use this network resource. Contract the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."

I have granted full share access to all the wanted files from my PC with access to 'Everyone' with read/write control.

I have tried many different things from many different forums but none have fixed this problem. Im sure Im missing something obvious but I just cant see it. My PC is part of a homegroup because of my work laptop that I bring home from time to time but I dont think this is caus... Read more

Hie guys, Iwas looking on some postas with regard to this topic and tried to implement the suggestions.
I followed the suggestion below

To resolve this problem: on the remote computer, select Administrative Tools>Local Security Settings>Local Policies>User Rights Assignment, right-click on Access this computer from the network>Properties>Add Users or Groups, add everyone or any users you want to be able to access the computer from the network.

This fixed the problem on the interim and I could access my file shares and printers. However when I restart the machine or even log off nad log on again, the prblem resurfaces and all the user accounts Iand groups i wolud have added to Administrative Tools>Local Security Settings>Local Policies>User Rights Assignment, right-click on Access this computer from the network> will be removed and the field empty. hence I suspect spam the disallow remote access by editing these entries .

Any ideas on how this can be resolved would be appreciated

Hi everyone,
I am so glad to have found this forum and to see that others in the past with similar problems have had them resolved, looking forward to nutting this one out
ISSUE
The computer is a win XP with RAID that freezes the mouse and the keyboard if a mouse or keyboard button is touched at the logon screen.
The mouse works fine until a button is pressed, you can even click on a user but are unable to enter a password due to the keyboard and mouse freezing at this moment.
NOTE: originally happened with a USB keyboard and USB mouse, using PS2 keyboard and mouse.
BACKGROUND
I am writing about my fathers old computer which suddenly started “freezing up” at the logon screen, after he wasted weeks trying to get it to work he decided that it was a hardware issue and bought himself a new computer.
Since then I have proved that there was no hardware error by putting an extra HDD in and installing Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Everything functions fine under Ubuntu and the files are able to be accessed on the RAID.
DESIRED OUTCOME
While i can access and copy files as needed from the RAID i would like to return access to the win XP install and let my father use it again.
STEPS TAKEN SO FAR
I first attempted to run Live rescue CD's but they could not find the RAID drive.
- Bit Defender Rescue CD – Saw the ubuntu drive, no RAID
- Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 – Didn't see any HDD's.
So I ran the following AV programs from ubuntu 12.04 LTS:

When prompted select yes.
Allow the program to reboot your machine as well when prompted.

Step 2:

Once the determination has been made open either the 32-bit or 64-bit folder.
Right Click the .exe on the inside of the folder and run as admin.
A command prompt window will open telling you what has been removed upon completion.
Note: All usb devices must be removed from your machine during this step, except your keyboard and mouse of course.

Step 3:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop.
Close any open windows
Double click the TFC icon to run the program. (Vista/7/8 Users, Right Click and select Run as Admin)
TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run
Click the Start button to begin the process
Allow TFC to run uninterrupted

I have upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. During the procedure a screen showed that Dell Access had to be removed before Windows 10 could be installed.
It was removed, and everything else went smoothly.
Now during logon, at the login screen, the system will take a while to initialize, and say "Failure to initialize". Luckily I am able to login using a password.
I want to use the fingerprint reader to login. Dell says that this system have no issues with upgrading to Windows 10, but not now. So how can I solve this problem?
I will like to do either the following:
1. Get the fingerprint reader working.
2. If it cannot work, I want the logon screen to stop trying to initialize and just use password to logon.

Also, I am getting 2-3 nos of the same user on the login screen. There is only 1 user on this computer but I see mostly 2 but sometimes 3 of the same on the lower left of the logon screen. I also want to remove the extras. Not an issue, but I think it may be related to the above as well.

Thanks.

Ok, this one isnt as easy as it seems.

I know about the temporary user problem when a user has their folder deleted & try to log in again & get a Temporary User profile. However, my problem is a little more servere.

Any new user that tries to log on gets the Temp profile.
3 previous user profiles work ok. However, one of them changed their password & they then got the Temp profile.
The PC is connected via a Domain, so i removed the PC from the Domain, added it to Workgroup & logged in locally as a new user with Admin rights & I still get the Temp profile.
I've checked the permissions & the registry & cant find anything wrong.
This is what gets reported in the error log:

Thanks in advance.

Any suggestions how this could have happened?

My method for automatically changing the Windows 7 logon/logoff wallpaper with every logon.

Step 1: Use one of the many guides on the web to enable custom/oem logon wallpaper, such as Brink's: Log On Screen - Change

Step 2: Copy whatever JPEG images you want to use for logon/logoff wallpaper in to C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds
You do not need to rename them -- just so long as their file extension is JPG or JPEG they'll be fine.

If no other variables in the network has changed it does sound like some kind of routing or DHCP mismatch which needs reconfiguring.

Would you know what I mean If I said can can you logon to a profile local to the client (i.e not on the server) and 'ping' the domain server IP address from a command prompt? Equally can you ping an internet address such as google.com?

Dear All,
I am at work and I am now having serious problem with my computer. I can't log on to my computer running WinXP Pro sp2 in IBM Thinkpad T41. When turned on, the computer boot up smoothly to Welcome screen awaiting for password. After enter the password and hit enter. It shows "Loading your personal settings" which is normal.

Yet, 0.1 second after sucessfully logon, I got kicked back to the login screen. It seems the computer logoff my account automatically showing "Saving your account settings" and then it is waiting for password.

This repeats every time I try to logon, always got kicked back to welcome screen after 0.1 second.

I tried to logon as computer administrator too but no hope...

Then I tried to open up a safe mode by pressing F8. Well, Safemode exhibits in the same way as normal mode.

I also tried the command prompt option. The wried thing is I got the Welcome Screen instead of command prompt.

Basically, all options in the F8 menu lead me to that evil Welcome Screen and autmatically log me off after logon.

I absolutely have no control over my computer now. T__T I believe it's some sort of virus that's tricking me but I don't know its name. Would someone help me?

Thanks in advance

Clarification :
I faced a few issues after installing the Windows 7 sp1 RTM. I am very sure (100%) that these are the Windows 7 sp1 RTM fault (already gone through a few discussions and tested by myself on various ways).

There is no problem with IE9 RTM as these problems were also existing when I used IE8 (Original file came with my Windows 7 pack).

I am certain that my Windows Live Sign In Assitant has no problem at all (tested with latest Windows Live Essential 2011 pack-the one with minor update).

Everything works properly prior/before of the installation of Windows 7 sp1 RTM (of course by reverting back the Windows 7 sp1 RTM to Windows 7 will solve everything).

The point is I want the solution for Windows 7 sp1 RTM. Hope you can help. Kindly view my issues below.
