Installing a copy of French Windows 7 alongside the current English

Q: Installing a copy of French Windows 7 alongside the current English

I would like to purchase and install another copy of Windows dedicated entirely to French. I know that I need an additional license, and my question is about how to install it and on which drive? I already have a dual boot Windows 7 and Xubuntu. Also, I am planning to transfer the current C: drive and the new OS drive to a 250GB SSD.

My current setup is a single 500MB Seagate SATA 3

C: current boot drive: drive 80GB
D: 50GB data
E: 60GB data
F: 60GB data
W: 90GB data
Ext4 25GB Xubuntu
Ext4 42GB data
Ext4 42 data
Swap 6GB

Preferred Solution: Installing a copy of French Windows 7 alongside the current English

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can install it on any drive or partition you want. It should be at least 60 GB.

Personally if you have room in your box for another drive, that`s what I would put it on.

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

Thanks

hi to all, once again I am in need of help. I've just bought a pc from a french bankrupt auction its a Dell dimension dim2400. My problem is that the OS is in french and as my french isgood but not that good, I want to change it to english. So I have been on line at ebay and got myself windows xp in English, but what I want to know is - do I have to format drive c to reinstall the new version? And if I do do I need to make a reboot disk?.And lastly if the answer is yes to the last two questions how do I do it??!!

Thanks.

A:installing english xp on a french xp pc

Hi soapy

You will need to reformat unless there is a large enough unpartitioned space on HD and you want to keep the french version. Since the default on install is the whole drive, I doubt this would be the case. A clean install is the best option and is not very difficult. Remember that doing this will wipe the HD clean so if there is anything important on the drive you will need to save it, and make sure it would work with english version. Just follow the steps Here under Perform a clean install of Windows XP.

I haven't really had a whole lot of luck with dual boot configs in the past, but I'm just wondering if I'd be able to run mac using my current board GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-EP45-UD3L (rev. 1.1) I'm running a quad-core intel chip. Also, what method should I use? I have more than 1 HDD also. I have a bigger HDD for storage and I want to use that one instead of my main HDD which has only 40GB free on it. My other HDD has 874GB free. I don't have any versions of Mac available either, and I don't know if you need it or not. I have 8GB ram.

Also I don't want the files on my other HDD to be affected, they shouldn't be right?

Here's a pic of the HDD's in case the wording was confusing:

Hi everybody!

My concern here is that I would want to switch my "French" Windows XP into an "English" one. Indeed, I am going to give my laptop to a Nepalese friend, and he cannot read French.

Thank you for your assistance!

A:Switch Windows XP language from French to English

Hey,

The problem is that there is no ?switch? to change the language. You can change the keyboard layout but not the language of Windwos itself. In such cases you have to make a new and clean installation of Windows using installation disk.

I don?t know what notebook you have exactly but all drivers and tools for your Toshiba notebook you can find on Toshiba homepage.

By the way: If you install XP, I would recommend Service Pack 3. It contains important security updates.

Hi,

I got a German version of XP in the hopes it would work with the serial key on the English machine..... This wasnt the case.

Its pretty frustrating as it was a mate who works for microsoft got me the copy, but didnt give me a key.

Its a volume copy and i cant even find a serial that would potentially work.

Gonna ask microsoft about it but dont think they'll be willing to give me any joy on this one.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

We are having a strange intermittent problem here. We have XP Pro, and Office 2003, with templates created for our people to use with Word. These are basic templates for faxing, letters, etc. but with our very plain text logo on them. Everyone uses them, but for a couple of them, their spell-checker comes up in French. This only happens on the company templates and not to everyone. I've checked all the language settings and made sure they were set to English, but it still happens. I open the same template on my computer and all is fine. So it seems to be machine specific problem. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Thank-you, I've learned a lot from reading here. It's a fabulous resource!!!

Hi All, I'm a beginner so please bear with me.... I'm hoping to install the Windows 7 RC onto my PC tomorrow. As far as I can tell all I need to do is create a separate partition on the hard drive, then install the disc. My concern is how do I tell Windows 7 which partition to load onto? If the installation procedure asks me which partition to load it to then I can direct it to the correct drive and all should be fine but if it doesn't ask me I'm concerned it will load into c: drive and therefor wipe everything off the machine. I'll have my info backed-up and I'm happy with creating partitions but i'm unsure how to 'tell' windows 7 which drive to load to. I'd read that I can make the c:drive 'inactive' and I can also hide it but if I do so how will the machine boot? (Or do I not need the machine to boot as I'm loading on O/S disc?!
Getting more confused as I write this!
I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks.

I got a new ThinkPad P50 with 32GB RAM and 1TB NVME SSD with Windows 7 installed on it. I need to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7, however, my attempts were not successful. These are the steps I took:- Shrink partition C in Windows and generate ~400GB unallocated space for Ubuntu.- Restarted with Ubuntu bootable usb- Instead of selecting "Install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7" option, I selected "Something else" option- Using my free space (~400GB), created a primary swap space with ~33GB capacity- Made the rest of free space as a primary mount point ( option: / )- Since my system has normal BIOS (not efi), I selected my device's name to install. The problem happens right here - no matter which drive I select to install, it gives me warning and askes me to return and correct the error. Here is what it says:"The partition table in use on your disks normally requires you to create separate partitin for boot loader code. This partition should be marked for use as a "Reserved BIOS boot area" and should be at least 1MB size. Note that this is not the same as a partition mounted on /root. If you do not go back to the partitioning menu and correct this error, boot loader installation may fail later ..." Please advise. I appreciate everyone's help.

Why don't you want to use the option to boot along side Windows? I have done this many times. You could set up EBCD in Windows to manage what to boot to, as well as installing Grub in Ubuntu and also manage your start up. With that I mean, it will allow you to have either OS as a default Boot. Maybe elaborate on what you are trying to do.

And of course, ALSO WITH METRO please. It seems independent of the "real" OS.

I type status and info into each "topic" section, cut and paste from other files, and emails.

Hyperlind to file names.

I think it is related to a hyperlinked document name that starts with h3nnnn_-_all.pdf.

But, it will be checking spelling, and all of a sudden it will want to change normal english words to their French equivalent.

It complains there are too many spelling errors for it to check. I then created "my own library" to put all the technical terms in to reduce the number of errors. I put most of the english word errors that it wanted to convert to French into it, and that reduced the number of complaints, but it is amusing / annoying.

I cannot figure out how to find where the dictionary change is invoked within my file. Any ideas?

Hi Redsox2004,

Word documents, and different parts of a document, may be set in a different language (Tools / Set Language) than your default .

If you have copied from other documents then the copied text may be in another language.

You can set the text to not check spelling if it is causing you a problem, e.g. if you do not have the dictionary loaded for the language required. (same Tools / Set Language option).

You can see the language any text has been set in by looking in the status bar at the bottom of your screen.

How would one go about installing Windows 7 (assuming one has a legitimate Windows 7 CD) on a dual boot, on a computer that has only Linux (precisely Linux Mint) as an OS?

Recently, a nasty virus on my Windows 7 partition basically destroyed its boot system (dual-boot with a ~500 GB hard drive, 30 GB allocated to Linux Mint 17.1). Upon restarting the computer, the computer would become stuck on a blank screen with a flashing cursor on the top-left; not even the GRUB menu would show up (and F11 recovery option is basically obliterated). Currently, I have/I am using a USB with Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela burnt onto it.

Rather than go through the hassle of repairing the Windows system, I am considering installing Linux Mint as the sole system (thus formatting the drive), and later installing Windows 7 as a dual-boot system. My main concern is if that is possible.

Hi all,

I've been researching on how to fix this problem all day and I haven't made any progress. Hopefully you guys can help. I installed Ubuntu alongside Windows 7 on my little sister's HP Mini and Ubuntu is up and running like a champ, but when I select to boot Windows I get only a blinking cursor. I made a Windows repair disk and used Bootrec.exe to try and fix the MBR which I thought was probably the issue. At first I used only the command /FixMbr and then when I booted I got a screen with a lot of text. Unfortunately I don't remember what it said now, but it was something along the lines of Windows not being able to boot. I have since used the commands /fixboot and /RebuildBCD (after backing up my BCD as detailed in this Microsoft article). I now only ever see a blinking cursor in the top left corner. I am unable to get to a boot selection menu.

I really have no idea what to do now and I'm having extreme difficulty finding out what to do from here. I really appreciate any help you are able to lend. Thanks.

Hi everyone!

While current language for non-unicode programs is in English, the Arabic texts are encryption and aren't shown properly in any text files.

However, when I changed the non-unicode programs to "Arabic, the texts are shown properly in all Arabic texts.

The most strange is that VGA driver changes to Arabic when I change current language for non-unicode programs to Arabic.

But it is still English when current language for non-unicode programs is English.

I was excepting that VGA(CATYLAST program) was in Arabic when I the driver software was in Arabic.

However, this is not true, and the evidence is that the language changes to Arabic when current language for non-unicode programs to Arabic, and to English when current language for non-unicode programs to English

What is the relationship between current language for non-unicode programs and VGA program?
I think it should still have been shown in English whatever current language for non-unicode programs to English/Arabic?

exactly what the title says, the key is doing it without losing my current copy of windows 7 that is installed, i dont want to lose any of my current data.

as i understand it, this can be achieved by, first, shrinking current partition to just slightly larger than you absolutely need it, second, make sure you have room for another partition, boot from 8" disk, install in "new partition" without over writing my last one.

all simple in theory, but i have a few questions, first, i know that you generally have to be careful shrinking partition because of data loss, if this is true, are there any suggestions to do this more safely. second, would this even work! and third, assuming it would, am i correct on the process of creating the new partition for windows 8? ir is there a better way to do it?

also... before i get too far, if anyone has tried this, how did you install 8? when i try to unpack the iso to a DVD/R it is too big (the iso is 4.8gb, larger than your standard DVD/R). i though of using an 8gb thumb drive, but i really hate that process of changing my boot order atleast twice

If you got the bigger iso - that is the one containing the dev tools - which I am guessing you don't really need.

Never mind, you can install it anyway.

There are several ways to install - one way is to mount the iso from within win 7 and run setup from there.

You need something to mount it - I like the free version of Poweriso - but there are plenty of other apps. you could use.

Just click download - it runs as the free version with no time limit.

You might want to untick the boxes if you don't want the avg stuff:

Hi everyone,

I have a Dell 3531 Laptop currently running Windows 10,

I'd like to install Windows Vista on a VHD so I can dual boot Windows 10 and Vista. I've tried it a few times but I can't figure it out. I was wondering if anyone could help me on how to do it, or if it is even possible to do.

I know it may sound a little weird that I want to dual boot windows 10 with such an older version of windows, but I have my reasons!!!

Thanks!!

So I purchased a new Thinkpad and had it pre-loaded with Windows 8. Now I regret that decision for many reasons and would like to install Windows 7 while keeping Windows 8 intact. The partition Windows 8 is sitting was quite large so I shrunk the volume via 'Disk Management' and allocated more than enough to run both operating systems in their own partition. Everything looked good from there and I was ready to proceed with the install of Windows 7 with the use of my DVD until it got to the section where setup asks which partition to install to. Choosing the empty NTFS partition setup gives me the following message and I can't proceed, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style." Is there any easy way around this? I'm guessing this is because Windows 8 was installed via UEFI and GPT...

HI

Good day,I just want to ask if it is possible to install 2 windows 7 OS on the same computer? Cause I have a pc with Windows 7 Chinese OS preinstalled but hoping that I won't have to delete that OS and instead install an English version of Windows 7,I was hoping to dual boot it,is it possible and if it is can you help me on step by step on how to do it? many thanks

A:Installing Windows 7 english

Yes, it's easy.

Just make a partition for your new install.

Boot the install dvd - foolow instructions and point the installer at your new partition.

The only issue you may have - as that is an oem machine - you probably have 4 partitions already on there.

If you post a screenshot of Disk Management window - someone will show you how to get rid of the annoying 100mb partition ( assuming you have one ).

I just bought a Notebook PC in Japan and it came with Japanese Windows XP Home Edition. I would like to install English Windows XP on the PC. I don't need the Japanese version.

I have 2 English Windows XP CDs: Home upgrade and Home OEM.

How can I install the English version on to the PC with Japanese version of Windows XP Home edition?

Is it also possible to maintain the Japanese version and operate with the English version? If yes, how can it be done? The PC has 2 HDDs: C and D.

I will very much appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
