Annoying ads, being sent to other pages, etc

Q: Annoying ads, being sent to other pages, etc

I have installed Spybot, Malwarebytes, and Ad-Aware along with my normal AVG Anti-Virus yet I am still getting constantly redirected to other sites, ads popping up for things I didn't click on, etc. Usually I can get rid of this stuff easily, but this crap just isn't going away. I have some screenshots to help out.

Preferred Solution: Annoying ads, being sent to other pages, etc

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Help!
I sell ( and buy) and sometimes buy more than sell...but that's another problem...on eBay. For months I have been getting an annoying message "the parameter is incorrect" when trying to view eBay pages. EBay's tech support suggested I might delete old shortcut and set new which I did. Actually, I have several times. Tonight I am getting a totally blank page. There is no error number or anything other than the parameter line. The rest of the page is blank and now page is totally blank! I have nosed around on the web and find that I am not the only one getting this message. Everybody else I have seen has some other identifiable error message along with the one I get. Microsoft addresses several problems related to that message but with other browsers, programs or again, other error messages along with the parameter one. I have Norton firewall and antivirus which is current and just scanned (again)...no virus found. Downloaded SpyBot today and fixed the few things that it found. Have not installed Hijack this. I may do that next but will need help with the log. ANY help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jan

Check the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs feature for 'Active Alert' and 'Internet Optimizer'. If these entries are there, using both should result in InternetOptimizer's correct removal.

if you dont see either of those in there,
download, install and run Ad-aware SE Personal from www.lavasoftusa.com

that should take care of it

Hi,

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.

System details:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates

As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611273/possible-virus-or-malaware/

However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

Hi guys ( and girls )

I have an Acer Asspire 5332 running Vista.

A month or so ago the CD/DVD rom stopped working. Device Manager states it is unable to start and updating driver/uninstalling device etc does nothing either, other than recognise the drive as "standard cd rom" whereas it is actually a dvd rewriter. Acer tech support say that windows should pick up the driver automatically and cannot understand what the problem is. They do not provde a driver for the cd/dvd unit.

Then, in the last 2 weeks, certain web pages have failed to open, namely Hotmail and Facebook. All I get is a blank page with no error message Also videos on all sites intermittently work and don't work, saying I need to install Javascript which I already have! I have done all the usual checks and fixes ( internet options / javascript uninstall reinstall etc, as well as un-installing internet explorer itself.

Using another browser ( Safari ) opens up all pages including Hotmail and Facebook fine, but I still get the issue with the videos.

Does this sound like a virus? I have run Avast scan, and Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner. I am posting a "Hijack this log" for any braniancs to look over. Not sure if it is one problem, or several but doing my head in !!!

thanks in advance,
Rob

For the last few days I have been getting some odd behavior when I try to access my accounts on several websites. When I access the legitimate website and try to log in, I am redirected to a phishing page which asks for account information, including credit card numbers, ATM Pin, etc.

There was one other post I found here that had what appeats to be the same problem, but I have not been able to successfully remove the issue myself from following the help you provided to him. (http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/736876-solved-ebay-paypal-fake-web.html)

Using OTScanIT and modifying slightly the fix script provided to the other user I was able to briefly get my Ebay account working again, but when I tried to access my bank account (Wells Fargo) I am now being redirected to the fake page again. I'm not sure what information it would be helpful to include here to help analyze what is going on. I recall having had this same problem once on another computer which is no longer experiencing the issue, but don't know what exactly I did to resolve it other than installing Avast and running a full clean (which I cannot do here, as this is a work computer that will not allow me to replace the existing virus scanning software). I do have limited installation capabilities on this machine, and have installed HijackThis and OTScanIT as well as Malwarebytes to aid in resolving this.

Please let me know what if anything I can do to fix this situation, including... Read more

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

hello all

i have started noticing "hijacked pages,"

and that (so far, only when using "chrome," which is outdated - NOT by choice but because i am stuck with windows vista and GOOGLE will not longer support it...),

sometimes chrome will "hang" when attempting to perform operations such as "clear browsing data,

and then if i attempt to close chrome, it will make it so that system processes(?) such as my toolbar, ctrl+alt+del/task mgr, and restart will not work, forcing me to need to manually power off my computer,

and now as of today, most pages are not loading ("err_connection_failed" in chrome, but ALSO IN FIREFOX a lot of pictures in pages are not loading),

so i fear i have malware...

okay, here is the sysinfo readout:

Ok forewarned this is a high level problem.

So I had a problem with IE where it wasnt storing pages in history, I closed all my IE windows, and using ccleaner wiped the history file (I assume was corrupt) and that fixed that problem, but I made a new one, info as follows.

I normally on IE my first IE window has about 15 or so tabs loaded, which I use as reference points, for whatever reason I didnt bookmark these tabs but simply they were always loaded in the firs tIE windows after reboots etc. so basically on reboots I would close this IE windows last, and on the first IE window after reboot I would select "reopen last browsing session" from the menu to recover these tabs understood so far? What I did with ccleaner wiped this session, and those pages had hugely important info to me in them.

I have no system restore point to get it back.

I do have a norton recovery image 10 days old.

Now the new problem.

Norton recovery images are made with the system running, almost certianly I had IE open at the time. So there is no me importing IE files, starting IE and simply selecting "reopen last browsing session" as when norton did its image IE was running. So this leaves what?

The crash recovery data, when IE is running it stores data on whats currently open incase it crashes and so can recover.

In the image I have mounted there is the following folder. (Q drive)

Q:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery

Inside it is various dat... Read more

A:importing IE9 recovery pages to get loaded pages back

Ok I have done it, here is how.

IE prepends its recovery files with 'RecoveryStore.'

and each session file is named like this '{9AC84612-1C85-11E3-AF5A-001B213DE643}.dat'
So a recovery file is like this 'RecoveryStore.{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}.dat'

When IE is running it has a registry key matching the name at 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active'
The key is without the prepend and file extension so such as '{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}'

If IE closes down successful the key is deleted from the registry.
If it crashes the key still exists, so on startup IE checks for the key and loads the associated .dat file to recover tabs.

So I have them recovered luckily.

I have tried everything, I delted cookies, temporary files, I told my browser to dump all the temp files when closing...
I can not open files like gmail, without first deleting all the cookies and temp files, EVERYTIME. I tried following a link to aol, and I get a blank screen with the "done" on the bottom.
I went into a web based program that stores data and then generates things like adoption reports and I can access the report OR print it, it just stops and goes no further.

I am crippled by this, I am on gmail DAILY, please tell me what else to do, somebody told me to delete host files or search for them ??????? IDK

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

Whenever I enter a search on google.com, new malware search results show up.
Sometimes clicking on a link I want to get to opens up a new browser tab that I didn't ask for. Sometimes this happens even when clicking on any random space on the page, not even on a link.
The other day I opened Youtube and there were all these new Youtube videos showing up on my home page in another language that I had no interest in.
Someone else uses this computer once in a while and I think they may not be aware of what links and downloads to avoid.
I'm usually using Google Chrome.
Anyway, please help! This has been going on for a while but it's really interfering work now.

A:How to convert cgi pages into html pages

cgi is the script behind the scenes and the html is the result. If you don't want any of the functionality the scripts provide just cut them from the page. If it is active content HTML alom will not cut it and you will have to use something server side like ASP, PHP, ColdFusion, etc in place of the cgi

There are twenty or thirty sites I visit regularly.

Recently I've been having some problems. Some sites I can visit like normal, but some sites I can't. I get "cannot find server" errors.

I cannot visit 9/10 websites on the internet because of this.

I have run Search & Destroy, Spyware Doctor, HouseCall, HijackThis, and the virus scanner on pcpitstop.com. I've run some of those in Safe Mode as well.

I cannot ping a website with cmd, but if someone else gives me the ip for a site url I can't visit, and i put the ip in the address bar, it will work like normal.

I've tried using IE and FireFox. I'm currently running FireFox (on XP) because I'm concerned about the security of IE during this problem.

I've done a system restore to before the problem but it didn't help.

There are three computers in my house, two of them are affected, one isn't. So I don't think this is an ISP issue, but I could be mistaken.

Is anyone out there familiar with this problem?

Keep in mind that any links or such you provide me I will most likely not be able to follow, because the page likely won't load. If you suggest I download something please provide a direct link to the zip/exe file.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

A friend of mine has this problem. Has a low speed broadband connection with Bigpond (Telstra) - uses IE and Firefox. the problem is he cannot move from the home pages that loads to any other website either via a link or typing a search or address.

If you change the home page and re-open the browser it will go to that website, even when it would not before if you tried to move to it from the previous home page?

Modem as been reset and re-configured. 2 browsers have been tried. Calls to technicians only resulted in advising there is a problem with the modem? (if the modem can ping a remote pc and see a homepage that has not been cached surely the modem is ok?)

Any ideas welcome...

Hi me again hoggin the threads lol. I notice quite often than when I'm looking at a page, any page it goes freeze, off and back on again, but within a split second, it seems to be happening more often also. It is more annoying than anything, but when I'm downloading stuff from soulseek it causes me to lose connection and whatever is downloading, it then goes back to something 74 in line, so it is a right pain. I'm wondering if the modem might have something to do with it as sometimes as well as the rdy & the sync lights being on continuous, all the others sometimes are flickering on and off like christmas tree lights especially the usb light. It might not even be connected to the screen problem but I've no idea what to do to stop my page freezing and going even if it is in a micro second, though last night everything just froze for about 2 minutes, which was really doing my head in. I'm running XP and NTL Broadband 1mg.
Cheers,
John

Scanning a physical document for digital storage requires scanning of the document, which is considerably quicker if two sides are scanned together.

Is there some freeware program (if possible running on Windows) to deskew and separate the two pages automatically for the whole created file (pdf, djvu, tiff...), creating an ordered document with a single scanned page per page (or at least a file with the odd pages and a file with the even pages). It is somehow more complicated than using a script of Autohotkey, since not all scanned pages are exactly located at the same position, and therefore the parameters of a page to be splitted do not necessarily apply to all other pages.

Thanks in advance for the information.

You may have an add-on that blocks tracking sites, or advertisers. Based on the picture, the chances are that it is an advertisement that is blocked by your settings.

Is there a way to stop web pages from opening another window with a webpage in it?

Sometimes they open when you just start a page, and sometimes they open when you close a page.

Is there a way to stop either?

Yes, my question is because of a porno site... I was at work and searched for cars at www.ask.com... and it brought up a car site and I clicked on it and it was porno and not cars... and everytime I closed the Window it opened another. It made me so angry I turned the PC off....

Other than destroying the people who makes those sites is there a way to stop it using browser settings? I use IE.

Yes use this popup killer. If things keep going we will have so many of these little programs on out computers to stop the things people do to make our live miserable our computers won't have room for our regular programs.
Here try this free little program. Got carried away.

Hello chums

A question of how I lay out data entry forms has arisen...

Hi cutsomer wants to use tabbed forms so each section of a single data entry process is 'contained' in a tabbed page, the entire group of pages pertaining to a single recordset.

So good so far but one particular page needs to hold a lot more data entry than the other pages (lots of pulldowns, radios, text etc).

I've been trying to add a new 'tabbed pageset' to sit within an existing page to split that existing page into more manageable chunks. A bit like a folder within a folder if you will.

Sadly, no matter how I try, while I can add (say) a three page 'tabbed pageset' to an existing page, the new tabbed pageset also shows up on all other existing pages.

So I 'cut' the new pageset, select the page I want to put it onto and paste it, but it still shows up as if it belongs to all pages. Erk!

Is there a way to do this that is foolproof or is this a no-go?

I've attached a couple of hi-quality screen shots showing what I'm trying to do, how it seems ok, but not really... You'll get the picture (sorry bout the pun).

Hope my gibberish makes sense!

Any ideas or fix's, Reg repair maybe??!

A:Annoying BASS Bug,,,Ummm, Really Really Annoying Bass Bug.....

Hi, the first thing to do with an issue such as this is to reinstall the sound drivers. Go into Programs and Features and remove the audio drivers. If nothing is listed there go to Device manager and remove the drivers there. Download the latest audio drivers from HP and try that. You may have a bug no one noticed. If you have the latest go back to the previous set of drivers. Post back your findings.

Whenever they open up a conversation an ad pops up and says something about how you can get cool msn nicknames for free if you click the link. but IF you click the link it gives you the same virus and whenever YOU open up a conversation it posts the same ad over and over again. It is extremely aggravating.

I had something similar to it a few months ago. msn block-checker? nasty thing.
I had to go through a lot of steps to get rid of it. But it's been gone since. So I was wondering if there was any way to get rid of that?

Thanks.

I keep getting variations of (what appears to be) an ie popup saying 'blah blah your internet has been captured oh no! click here please!' It's really annoying because it just seems to come out randomly (when I don't even have ie running) and will cause any other program I have running to be minimized, but can only be minimized itself through the task manager. One other thing, I always have my ie homepage set to about: blank, so I didn't know whether that was a problem or not until skimming these forums.Couple other things I'll mention: AVG often catches something called "se.dll" and tells me that I need to reboot in order to delete it, but when I do restart it tells me that se.dll cannot be found. Also, I know that I should probably update to SP2, but I've just heard so many bad things about it. If you haven't already, download, install, update immediately, then run AdawareSE. Make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results.

Then download, install, update immediately then run Spybot S&D.

Have each fix whatever problems they may find.

Next, run an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus.
Please select the autoclean option when using Trend Micro.

You have an outdated version of HJT. Please get HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Run the scan, save the log, but do not fix anything yet. Many files it finds are harmless, and required for your system to operate. Run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file here.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Do not run it yet.

Before doing anything, MAKE SURE that you can keep your computer on (at least until we get it fixed). This infection requires us to detect and remove it without rebooting or restarting your computer (unless the instructions say so). If you can't keep your computer on today, then I suggest that you don't get the logs yet until you are ready. With that said (when ready):

Open up HijackThis and go to Config->Misc Tools and check the first two boxes there. Now click on the Generate StartupList log button. Post that log in your next post.

Right click on this link and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Make sure you have disabled any programs that may block/disable scripts (ex: Ad-Watch, TeaTimer, Norton, etc.). Double click on Silent Runners to run it. This will take a few minutes. It will create a file called Startup Programs followed by your computer name and current date. Open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post.

Download Find-qoologic. Unzip the files to your Desktop. Open the qoologic folder and run the qoologic.bat file. Wait a few minutes for it to finish. When the dos window disappears, go to your C: drive and open up the log.txt file. Copy and paste the whole log in your next post.

Hi

Currently being plagued by Swedish sites that pop up in new windows when I open or refresh an Internet Explorer window. It's for www.snyggast.se and http://p2pcasino.net/swedish/default.htm, one of which then opens another pop-up window for www.oldgames.se.
These don't appear every time an IE window is opened or refreshed... more like every 4th or 5th time.
It doesn't quite sound like the browser hijacking trojans that seem to be running riot at the moment, but I ran cwshredder and ad-aware 6 anyway (ad aware didn't find anything - cwshredder found and deleted a hidden DLL cw but this hasn't fixed anything). Using Windows XP Home.
Any ideas chaps?

Hi, AdAware 6.0 is retired, and replace with AdAware SE personal edition (free)....

I would get that and check if you have verson 1.3 of SpyBot Search and Destroy: You do need to uninstall the older versions before getting these new ones on. Both programs will have updates even just now when you install...they update quite often.

Both are found here:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html
AdAware directions:
Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.

SpyBot:

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press Online and Search for Updates .

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click Check for Problems and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.
