Gaming Comp Processor Q

Q: Gaming Comp Processor Q

Whats up guys as you can see im a new to PC gaming. Im ready to buy a gaming computer but wanted to know if it is really necessary to spend the extra money for a dual processing card (i was gonna go with the AMD anthlon 64 X2 4200) Will this make a impresive improvment in the gaming perfomance of the comp? Im not into multitasking. The computer will be more for gaming or surfing the web and a little music downloading. It will have the NVidia nforce 4 sli chipstet MB w/ dual 16x pci express and (2) NVidia Geforce 6800 xt 256mb DDR3 Powered by Xmdia. What Processor would you recomend. Mater of fact its Cyberpowerinc's Gamer Ultra SLI Elite computer its in the new "Computer Shopper" magazine on page 40. All answer will be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Gaming Comp Processor Q

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

A: Gaming Comp Processor Q

if you are only going to use it for gaming then there is no need to buy a dual core CPU (yet, eventually all games will probably be coded for multicores)
So you are probably better of getting a FX-55/57... if you can afford it of course.

Personally I bought a dual core, though I am a gamer, I thought that the processor would stay with me for a while so wanted to make it future "proof" (if there is such a thing) also my thoughts was also that there is always something else, apart from the game, using up processing power like teamspeak etc so it is still a good idea to have dual core.

But back to your original question, no it wont make any difference to the actual game

i have 3 processors!i am a bit stuck on which processor would be my best bet to build a good gaming computer with, they might be old but i reckon i could use one of them as i need to watch my pennys!il start with the newest to the oldest.i have no mobo's and need some advice on a good mobo and some good hardware,as i have 2 40gb hard drives and an old phillips cd/dvd burner!should i buy local in ireland or does it matter?does anyone know of some really good websites that sell comp parts.

1. intel Pentium 4 531 SL8HZ MALAY 3.00GHZ/1M/800/04A
2.Intel Pentium 4 2.80 GHZ/1M/800/04A SL7PR MALAY
3.Intel Pentium 4 2001,2.66ghz/512/533,sl6pe china

I think its between 1 and 2 and i think 1 would be the strongest and fastest but i need some advice!thanks alot!

A:Which processor and mobo for gaming comp?

Its likely the first one, as has the highest clock speed. However, none of them are really going to be very useful for gaming on all the very oldest of games.

Some more information is required on the sorts of games you wish to play before even spending some money, as what your hoping for might not be possible for the budget you have in mind.

Buying in Ireland, or online is fine.

Alright, we, as a family are getting a new computer before 07 ends, and for once, I'd like to have a decent computer for gaming.

Anyway, with games made these, days how many are actually for/put onto mac? Any of the popular ones? Would I be able to find mac games in walmart, or these days, do games just work for both OS's? I'm highly unexperienced with new macs, the closest thing I know about is those old, huge macs from the 90's.

I also heard that when used for gaming, a mac's specs are more powerful than a PC's?

Like, for example. 800mhz Mac = 1.5ghz PC? Equal or greater to?

Any help with this decision is greatly appreciated, thanks.

A:Getting a new comp - PC or Mac for gaming?

Most games are designed for PC's. Some of the more heavily developed engines are cross-platform, but the majority are designed for PC's, as well as newer gaming hardware, like new video cards. If you are seriously interested in gaming, I would go with a PC, but if you really want a mac, you can, a lot of new games are available for it, as shown here. And places like Wal-Mart would probably have them for sale, probably in a separate Mac section, or any store that sells Mac's.

this is the motherboard i currently am using.

this is the processor i'm currently trying to install.

I successfully placed the processor and heat sink on the motherboard. It fits completely fine. They are both socket 775 so I assume they are compatible.

Every time I try and boot the computer up with the new processor the light that shows if the comp is on or off is orange and the monitor says no signal. I can open up the disk drive, and when my computer is open I can see a green light on my motherboard. I am using a 400 watt PSU so i'm stumped as to why it wont boot.

I put the old processor in so that's whats in the specs below.

With intel boards and processors, just because it has the same socket doesn't mean that it is compatible. Since it is motherboard made by Intel for Dell, you will have to check with Dell to find out if the CPU you have is actually supported by that motherboard.

Can anyone suggest which is best CPU for gaming purpose in notebooks?

APU quadcore A8,A10 or Intel core i5 or i7(Suggest generation)...And also RAM.....

I found that apu quadcore processor notebooks are a bit cheaper when compared to intel.

A:Which is best Processor for gaming

Depends on how much you can spend. You don't state what your budget is.

If money is no object, get the strongest CPU you can afford.

The graphics capability of the machine will likely matter more than the CPU as long as the CPU is at least passable by today's standards---say 5000 or higher on a Passmark CPU benchmark.

This machine is to be used for NOTHING BUT gaming?

Prepare to be disappointed and face noise and heat issues if you intend to game on anything but a desktop or a quite expensive portable.

Hi everyone. So I've had this problem for quite a while now. Tried quite a few different things but mainly just living with it at this point. Getting this out there to see if anyone might have some ideas as to what the culprit is.

PC specs:
Intel Core Duo 2.7ghz
3gig ram
Windows XP (with sp3)
Nvidia Geforce 9600GT

PC was custom built myself a few years ago. At the time I made sure the power supply was sufficient to run everything well. (But i'm not convinced that its not the problem)

On to the Issue. It only happens while playing a game.

At seemingly random times, my textures in game will go bonkers, sometimes buildings will turn bright white and other strange translucent colors, sometimes weird textures will appear randomly everywhere. such as a 2D image of a building or character just sitting on the ground somewhere, replacing the ground texture. It's quite a trippy experience to say the least.

This problem I can remedy everytime by opening the video settings and changing my texture quality. I usually go back and forth between low and medium as the problem presents itself.

While this is slightly annoying the real problem is that randomly (sometimes once every two days and sometimes twice in twenty minutes) my computer will freeze completely and can only be fixed with a reboot. This occurs differently depending on the game and other unkown factors. Sometimes I'm able to remain on skype with my friend and talk to him about how stupid it is that my PC j... Read more

256 MB video memory makes no difference for WoW (if you don't play on 1920x1200 resolutions). That card will improve your performance quite much. And it isn't unavailable, BTW.

Hi TSG community!

So i'm looking forward to upgrade my PC which is an HP pavillion small form factor and completely replace the mobo and processor and case and hoping to reuse the power supply (if its sufficient, I think its 500-600w). But before that, I'm gonna share to you guys what I am planning to do.

I have organized my upgrading into steps because I'm still a student and not really earning enough cash, just saving up. My budget for upgrading is only less than $300 (12,400pesos Philippine currency since I am living in the Philippines)

1st step: Computer case, planning to buy a case which are made by either thermaltake, coolmaster, or aerocool.

2nd step: mobo and processor, I want this to be an AMD-ATI build so i've researched a little bit and caught in between the AMD FX4100 and AMD A6-3600 processors. Between these two, which is better for gaming (i'm open to suggestions for other processors)? (FYI, I have a Radeon 4350 1gb video card (which I know is sh*t) but im also planning to upgrade later on. Probably the last step)).

Now the mobo, I'm not really familiar with the terms when I'm looking at the specsheet of mobos and I'm kinda confused on what mobo to buy. But I know that ASUS, MSI and GIGABYTE are very reliable (and some are cheap) mobos. I'm gonna need help in choosing one. My budget for a mobo is probably around $150 (i know its cheap). (other brands im familiar but i do not know if they are good, ASrock, Emaxx... Read more

A1. Either CPU should work, don't necessarily have to Overclock a CPU. It's just that some are better for overclocking than others and the motherboard also has to support it.

A2. No. In fact, if one overclocks too much it may burn the CPU up and possible destroy the motherboard.

A3. I started building computers in a shop back in late '94 and the need for CPU cooling began with the 80486 CPUs and has been needed ever since. It takes electricity to run things and that produces heat, have to get rid of it some way. I have just been given an 80386-40MHz computer and it has no CPU cooler.

Judging by your pricing I'd probably go with the E6500. Except for the lower L2 cache (2mb) compared to the E7500's 3mb the CPU's are identical except that the E6500 is branded "Dual Core" and the E7500 is a "Core 2 Duo". Both are Wolfdale (Penryn 45nm) CPU's.
Theoretically the E7500's larger cache should make it faster in some applications, but the E6500 should still provide 90-95% of the E7500's performance .
This review of 131 CPU's includes all the processors you have listed, and as an added bonus includes a Crysis benchmark. The only downside is that the review is in French, although Google translate might help you out. The graphs of course are self explanatory.

A:How much exactly does a processor affect gaming?

You need a discreet GPU. You are going to probably need to replace your PSU as well. Do you know the brand/model and how many watts your current PSU is? I can't believe you are playing any game @ 7-15 FPS. Add a GTX 460 and you will be playing @ 60+ FPS on most games on medium and @ 35-40 on most high settings. FYI, integrated graphics are not intended for gaming. As far as processors, gpu and gaming go you will fall into one of two bottlenecking categories....You need to find the happy medium.

Alright, so I'm a college student and between work-study and the occasional random job, I've got a bit of extra cash that I don't immediately need to throw at tuition, so I figured it's about time for a computer upgrade. My troubleshooting thread here ended with the conclusion that my old comp's hard drive is shot, and as my graphics card could probably use an upgrade too, I figured I might as well get a new system.

Price Range: Obviously, the target would be around 1000 bucks. I could probably stretch to around 1200ish and of course if I waited a bit longer, I'd have more money. But... waiting sucks.

My old system:

500 gb hard drive
4 gb DDR2
Pentium E2220 (C) 2.4 GHz (65W)
GeForce 8600 GT OC
vista 32-bit

What I'm lookin for:

A gaming computer. I don't need the computer for any whips and jingles, id est Blu-ray, DVD burner, webcam... whatever the young folks are up to these days. I just want to game. I've looked around at Best Buy and newegg, but I don't feel as comfortable as I used to shopping for computers. The only thing I've really been playing intensively latey is League of Legends, which I can play on low settings on my current rig. However, I'm probably going to pick up Dragon Age: Origins soon and of course, there's a lot of pretty graphically intensive games coming out soon with Christmas approaching.

Basically, I want a computer that I won't have to worry about upgrading for a while, but ... Read more

Hi all,

First off:

Athlon XP 1700
512Mb PC-133 SDRAM
WinXP Prof
DX 9.0
Geforce4 Ti4200 128Mb(Driver, 11/18/2002)
Dell 17" monitor, little old...

First, the problem in the subject, then something else.

Ok, within the last week, if I play a full screen game, any game, my computer will seem to go into sleep mode after 1-2 minutes. The monitor powers down, the sound goes off, but the comp doesn't turn off completely. It will stay running fine all day in windows, but as soon as I fire up a game... poof.

So far, I've upgraded from dx 8.1 to 9.0, and updated my video card drivers to the latest version.

My other problem is that I cannot run my processor at full speed. If I turn it up to full, and again, try to play a game, my computer will lock. There will be a split second of static in the sound, and the screen is just froze.

I don't know if there's a connection, but does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks in advance.

I have an ASUS NZXT gaming computer and a simple View Sonic monitor.

The monitor is connected to the computer properly, yet every time I manage to get the computer turned on, the monitor reads, "No signal."

The computer sometimes

will not even come on and I have to toy around with the voltage switch (116,230; 116 usually works) and hold the power button to get it to work. Even so, the monitor is not recognizing the computer. When the computer is on, even when it's not recognized, the computer will shut on and off by itself.

I bought a new DVI cord thinking that would solve the problem, but to no avail.

I recently moved so I'm wondering was the computer messed up during the move?

That's too general in my opinion. Could you be a bit more specific? If you're planning on a new rig read http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic133075.html

I am having trouble with my Processor when I am gaming Black Ops 2 and streaming with OBS. My processor is Intel Core i7 4700-MQ 2.4Ghz, Turbo up to 3.2Ghz. I got 8 Gbs of Ram, and Nvidia Geforce GT 745M 2gb. This is what my problem is. Usually when I play Black Ops 2 I can have almost high graphics, I cap at 60 Frames and its stable. But over time or the higher I try to go My frames stay at 60 but go down to mid 50s sometimes. The thing is that my audio kinda cuts out and glitches out and stutters when that happens. Thats how i know its my processor. Well when I stream, I use 30 FPS, 720, and superfast for my CPU. Black Ops 2 is 720 with everything turned down and I also have Itunes playing. Over a short time it starts doing the frame drops, and audio glitches etc. Is there something wrong with my processor? Cause my processor, Graphics, and Ram are more then capable to stream and play black ops 2 with higher graphics without doubt. My GPU tempature stays at around 72, because I took off the base under neath to keep it cooler, but thats when I stream. Without it it stays at 68. Taking the bottom off put the temparture down by at least 10. I really wanna fix this problem cause I love streaming. Thank you.

A:Processor issues when gaming, and Streaming?

Frames/sec dropping from 60 > 55 is nothing, perfectly normal in any game. No problem at all.
A re-install your sound driver is an obvious thing to try.

Running another sound Application like Itunes whilst running a game is not a good idea. It may not be up to job of so many sound channels at the same time.

I don't know Itunes, but if there is a means of lowering it's priority, resource usage you may gain something. The thing is, is the game sound OK when you are not running Itunes ?

I don't see your CPU processor as anything to do with this at all.

Hi all. Hope one of yahs can help me out.

2 wenesdays ago I constructed my first comp, and to my amazement I managed to put it together flawlessly.

I'm a heavy gamer. Lots of FPS, and WoW. I play around 3-10 hours a, day depending on the day.

This morning I wake up and boot up my comp. Everything is fine. I log into World of Warcraft and play for around 5 minutes before suddenly my comp just shuts down. Almost like as if someone pushed the power button.

I'm thinking "WTF?", so I check my monitor and speakers and sure enough they are powered on, and responding. I tried to turn the comp back and on and nothing happened. I checked inside the tower and the motherboard LED light is on. The orange enet light is also on.

At the moment I don't have the hardware to test swap (I will on monday). I was hoping that some of you may have overcome this problem before. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Here are my comp parts in case they may help.

MB Asus P5ND2-SLI NF4SLI 775
VGA Asus N EN6800GT/2DT/256MB R
CPU INTEL P4 630 800M LGA775 2M R
MEM 1GX2 Corsair VS2GBKIT667D2 R
HD 250G WD 7200 SATA2 16MB WD2500KS
Liminator Case with 550W PS

A:My new comp shut down while gaming, won't turn back on!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Check all cables/connections etc.

Try a different psu. If that doesn`t help, then it`s probably the mobo or cpu that`s died.

Post all things on this thread. The reason for this if you already havent heard, I want to play EverQuest again with out the lag fest.

I have a Alienware M15x laptop with system specs I have until now considered to be quite good. I recently had to reinstall Windows, a bad Torrent download corrupted my computer and I didn't have a Windows Recovery Disc. Many people tell me not to care about the Windows Experience Index, but here's the rating: It used to be 6.0, 6.6, 5.5, 5.9 and 5,9. Now it's 4.1, 6.4, 5.1, 5.5 and 5.9. The one that has lowered the most is the Processor component. Now, if my computer's performance hadn't been affected, I wouldn't have bothered. However, it did. I used to be capable of running GTA 4 at maximum settings at 1980x1080 without lag, Crysis 1 and 2 at medium-high settings at that same resolution, as well as many games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Bioshock, Borderlands, F.E.A.R. 1 and 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 at varying quality settings. Now, even at the lowest settings I can't run any of these games without a very noticeable stutter, often making it impossible for me to play these games.

I have a Page File set for my two disk drives (I have only one Hard Drive, partitioned to separate my games from the rest of the system).

I have Avast! as my antivirus, and I regularly scan my computer with Avast!, Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and Windows Defender, but I never find anything. I also use CCleaner often to clean up the registry.

What made my laptop cease to be as powerful as it was before? Was it my reinstalling of Windows? It's really getting on my nerves, seeing that I could play... Read more

A:Is an AMD dual processor worth the money for gaming ??

My Processor is it good for gaming cause im wondering if i shud buy a new one cause when i play CSS ( Counter Strike: Source) its kinda laggy well its more laggy than not laggy at all. Plus the graphics ar pretty bad, but im able to see everything ( not clearly ). So Im wondering if my processor ( AMD Sempron 3100+) is good for it or i shud get a new one and shud i get a new graphics card (SiS 760)? My RAM is 512MB maybe i shud get 2GB RAM or 1GB????any suggestions?

A:AMD Sempron 3100+ Processor(1.81 Ghz), Good for gaming or Bad?

It looks like from your post that you are using on board graphics. This would be one cause of the lagginess. Your processor may also be slowing things down. Since it is a Semperon, you would be limited to getting another socket 754 processor. The Athlon 64 is still available in socket 754, but this socket only supports single channel memory, unlike the socket 939 which supports dual channel memory.

So, to help you with a video card, what does your Motherboard support: AGP or PCI-e graphics cards? If you don't know for sure then tell us your motherboard make and model and we can help suggest an appropriate video card.

Hey everyone I am looking at getting a computer for starwars the old republic(needs to release already grr) I am thinking of going through Cyberpowerpc.com my brother and quite a few of my friends have bought computers from them and they seem to be the cheapest for brand new systems. I was hoping I could get some of you to build what you think would be a great computer for gaming, I will only be doing games on it and maybe watching movies I have 1 monitor right now i believe is a 22" viewsonic I would like to get a 24" and have duel monitors. I am looking to spend any where from 1k-1.7k I am looking into getting a SSD with a reg hard drive for storage. Any questions or concerns please post them here and i will get back to you ASAP, PREFER intel i5 unless u think i7 would be better with Over Clocking.

also if you will be playing starwars tor what kind of rig are u running right now and will be running for the game on release day?

so i just seen this and sorry for not doing it prior but here is what i kind of want

What are you going to use the PC for? Starwars: TOR. movies maybe blue ray maybe not not sure yet thats about it.

A:Building new gaming comp for Star Wars: TOR. What are you running?

I am assuming that your present budget excludes the monitor.

Here's what I suggest:

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz - $219.99
ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 - $189.99
MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III 1G/OC Radeon HD 6950 - $239.99
CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 - $149.99
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) - $69.99
Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB - $54.99
COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II - $79.99

TOTAL - $1004.93

That leaves you with $700 for OS and peripherals.

I am personally using the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 and Logitech MX518 as my keyboard / mouse combo. Really happy with them. However, it's more down to personal preference.

With any cash that's left over you might want to get an SSD/Blu-Ray/etc. Or you might look at getting a second HD 6950 for CF.

Does anyone here actually have, or know someone who has, one of these computers?
It sounds like a good buy (WalMart), and I read the various reviews but of course I have no way of knowing if they are real/true or not.
The sealed liquid cooling, does that mean no maintenance ever?
I do not normally do a lot of internal work/replacement other than upgrading video cards and so the limited upgrades would probably not bother me very much.
