Upgrade Graphics Card for Acer M1100?

Q: Upgrade Graphics Card for Acer M1100?

Hello,

I would like to upgrade my graphics for my Acer M1100 (http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireM1100/AspireM1100sp2.shtml). Only upgrade so far is that I have 3GB memory up from the 2 that it came with.

I have no idea how graphics cards work. Can someone help me with advice on what card would be suitable? I'm looking for something somewhat cheap, but not the lowest of the range.

Thanks for the assistance!

- Mary.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi all, please help, i have an acer aspire with vista premium. i am trying to upgrade to windows seven home premium. family pack 3 from staples. it starts fine but at a point halfway thru the install i get an error code ox80070570 and the program terminates. any ideas? Thanks

A:upgrade to 7 acer aspire m1100

That error code is basically a 'bad file/directory' code.
It's possible there is an issue with the drive in the laptop, or the dvd you have may be damaged.
If you burned it, I suggest burning another disc, with a very slow burn to ensure viability of the burn.

I know there are other threads regarding this however i just needed to confirm if it was possible since few of the computer shops i went told me its impossible to change as my current graphic card Nvidia Geforce gt 710 is the only card that would ever fit in the slot/space given. Currently using Acer Xc-605Intel Core i7-479016gb Ram DDR3Power Supply 220w Sorry i couldnt find the link to this PC anymore online.   As seen in the image above the space the graphic card has is abt 2.2cm and about 16cm long.I've read in other forums that GTX 750 ti is possible ( forum link ). there also a video that shows how to mod a card for casing that need low profile cards. youtube link I just mainly want to know if theres any chance to upgrade to a better card than what i have now. My apologies if i type anything wrongly. My hardware knowledge is pretty bad.

I know I'm not the only one that's sought to upgrade this particular computer, having seen two previous threads here about the same computer and an upgrade involving a Sapphire ATI Radeon 5570 HD. I know that will work without much issue. However, I want to see if I can go further with the same minimalist upgrading. Because of this, I made an account here in hopes of getting some answers.

I am currently looking at this card, also from Sapphire. Only, this one's higher end, being a Radeon 6570 HD found here. For those curious about the 5570 HD, that's here. I have looked at its benchmarks and it looks promising, but I have two questions.

First, is this a sufficient upgrade compared to the HD 5570? It's only a few dollars difference, but I'm seeking the best performance that I can get without doing a ton of upgrades. Second, it looks like it'll fit (looking at the card, it seems to be a low profile, which is necessary), but if anyone has the same computer, perhaps one can be a better gauge of that? Thanks for any answers anyone can give.

A:Graphics card question for Acer X1420G-U5832; is this a good upgrade?

Have a look at some of the benchmarks here:
AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB & HD 6570 512MB Review - Page 7

They also had this to say in conclusion:

Quote:
When compared to the HD 5670 and HD 5570- the Turks-based HD 6670 and HD 6570 are superior in every way. Even though a generation to generation performance increase of 10-15% may not seem like a big step, attaining this without changing the manufacturing process while maintaining the same power envelope is no small feat.

It does seem to be a bit faster although not by a huge margin.
If you already have the 5570 and looking to upgrade ... it may not be worth doing.

However, if its a matter of which one to get, the 6570 certainly seems to be the better card.

Look around a bit too. You may be able to get the next step up for the same price. Lots of sales going on ATM.

OH and BTW, Sapphire are probably the best choice for ATI card IMHO

A:Acer aspire M1100

The M1100 came with a 250GB hard drive. There's obviously something taking up all that space. You can't empty the drive because then it wouldn't have anything on it including the operating system and programs.

Use TreeSize to see what files and folders are consuming the most space.

A:Acer Aspire M1100

while i dont think there would be any problem's per say, I would suggest you first check if all the latest driver's of this machine are compatible with Win7. An incompatible driver can be a huge problem and may even trigger a BSOD.

I would suggest you first list the current specs on your model as this article was a little unclear on some aspects of the specs(Link).

I have an Acer Aspire M1100 that I bought for my late wife in 2008. It has been sitting in the corner of my living room virtually untouched for 6-9 months. I have not used it as it is using Windows Vista and is incredibly slow in comparison to my laptop.

I have recently decided to try and sell it as I need the space but it refuses to boot up. I switch it on and occassionally the monitor flashes up ACER followed by NO SIGNAL but does nothing else. I have tried different monitors on it and checked all the connections but always get the same result. I can hear the internal fans whirring and the 'on' light comes on but nothing else.

Any suggestions?

Hello guys:

Here's a link to what's inside it. http://www.ascendtech.us/acer-aspire-m1100-rs690m03-motherboard_i_mb64ars690m038e.aspx

I'd like to find the exact one or a motherboard that will work with the processor it already has. Don't need anything special, just something that will be compatible in it's place.

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks in advance!

A:Looking for an Acer Aspire M1100 Compatible Motherboard

The problem is often the case. Big box systems ie dell, hp, etc are proprietary; that is they are made to the mfg's spec and NOT industry standard spec. A standard atx mb may or may not fit correctly in the case. You have to measure the case, check standoff locations, etc.

Next issue is the os. Windows oem type license is valid only with the original hardware ie mb. The only board you can replace it with is the replacement you purchase from acer. Any other mb will require a new copy of windows.

In short if you are doing this for a learning experience, that is fine. Any other reason is just not cost effective; ie it is going to cost you way more to fix it than to just purchase a new system.

I used my LG HDTV as my monitor so i used a HDMI connection between the TV and the tower of my PC. Within the last week though i would be sitting surfing the internet and the screen would either freeze with crazy lines across it or the picture would totally cut out. I'd cut the power to the PC and start it up again. Sometimes it took a good two or three times to get it working. Usually it would start and i'd see the white Acer screen but again with crazy lines through it and it wouldn't move. The night before last I shutdown my PC and a few hours later started it up. This time nothing happened at all. I could hear that the PC itself had started up, like the beep when i turned it on and the keyboard lights flashing and the fans on etc. In the TV input menu it still registers that there's a HDMI connection but as i said, there's no picture. I assume that it's the HDMI port that's the problem but was just wondering if my assumption was right, and if it was how much it would be to get repaired? Thanks in advance

Acer Aspire M1100
Originally, my desktop computer had 2GB PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM. I attempted to add an extra pair of 1GB RAM sticks. Although 4GB of RAM would show up in my system properties, it was unsuccessful because the audio would come out as loud blips of static. Also, my resolution would change and my computer seemed to not recognized my video card. I couldn't even start games. So I figured the RAM was faulty and i purchased another pair of 1GB RAM sticks. Same problem. However, no matter what pair of sticks were in the computer, it would always work with just ONE pair of sticks. So I figured that my computer was only acting up if there were four sticks of RAM in it. This led me to buy a pair of 2GB sticks. Still the same problem with only two 2GB sticks. I am now stuck with these extra RAM sticks and only 2GB will work in my computer. I have attempted to update my audio and video drivers, as well as retry the sticks in all possible positions and combinations. Here is my audio and video info:

Hi everyone....

Current PC specs listed above ..... to get it out of the way I am a gamer......

This upgrade is to allow me to play some of the newer games such as The Witcher and also to enable me to utilize DX10 when I eventually upgrade to Vista.

RAM.....this is what I have found...I do not overclock and I am very happy with the matched pair of Corasir XMS 512MB 5400C4 running at 533 that I currently have so I figured the safe bet is in just jumping to a matched pair of 1MB sticks of the same.....

I do have a budget and from the reviews I have read this card should carry me through the gaming world for at least the next year (hopefully 2) I like eVGA and I have nothing but good things to say about the eVGA 6800GS that I am currently using.

But if anyone has some input as to problems with the card listed below or if you know of another card that will perform just as well (or better) for around the same price I would like to hear about it.

I am in way over my head and could use a push in the right direction.

I have an Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop that was running Vista 32 bit. I tried to upgrade to Windows 7, and am now stuck. I do not know what the exact problem is. I think it is EITHER a problem with BIOS or with an incompatible graphics driver.

After the upgrade process (I did not do a clean install), when the computer rebooted for the last time, the screen went black and it it did not advance past a certain point. The error message read, cannot boot from CD.

Since then, when I turn on my computer, the screen goes to black. That's it. If I push delete, I can access BIOS. Even when the boot priority is the CD Rom, nothing happens. I cannot access a GUI to make changes to drivers, etc.

With all of the known incompatibilities this computer has with Windows 7, it probably would be best to return to Vista. Ideally, without a clean install because of all the software and files on the computer. But I understand a clean install might be necessary.

How do I use my Vista recovery CD when there is no GUI accessible? Can I do this through the BIOS menu? I am not good with command prompt coding, so if that is mandatory, I would love some help there!

Unfortunately, I do not know the exact computer specs, again because there is no GUI. The best I can do is this Acer website:
Acer Support: Aspire M5100 Specifications

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Hi Everyone
First post, be gentle.

I recently bought a new computer. My old computer was 8 years old and had onboard graphics. I do not play a lot of games but could play Championship Manager2008, NWN and Oblivion fine.

My new PC is an Aspire X3812, 3GB Ram, Windows 7 64 bit. My systems info tells me that the onboard graphics is the Intel G45/G43 Express chip.

I can play NWN and Oblivion fine on this but not CM 2008. It starts ok, I have the initial screen and the football that breaks the glass then I am left with a black screen. I cannot regain control at this point and have to turn off the pc.

I have used the windows troubleshooting and tried running under XP SP2 and SP3 but to no avail as I still get the same problem.

I started windows in debug mode and got the same but with this error message "Direct 3D failed to initialise" I then updated the drivers but still the same. I am confused that an 8 year old business PC with onboard graphics could cope but not this new PC?

I realise that the onboard graphics card isn't too good but its only CM 2008?

I have looked at upgrading the card but the problem is that the pc is low power (220W) and low profile. The only card that I can find that seems remotely usable is the Galaxy GeForce 9600GT product.

This is meant to be low profile but would it fit in my pc? It states that the min psu required is also 300W. So that looks like a NO then?

If it would fit would I be able to get a 300w psu that woul... Read more

Hi, im new to all of this so please excuse me if i dont make much sense
I currently have the pc above, and im basically looking for a decent graphics card.
I use this PC connected to my TV mainly to play Windows Media Centre and keep getting video card errors.

Can you recommend a low profile video card that would fix this problem?

Hello everyone. I asked on reddit and did some research and finally found out that I couldn't upgrade my laptop's video card the traditional way. However, someone suggested that I use the eGPU but told me to check if my laptop would support it. I would also like to know the possible repercussions of this installation (someone said that I may have to remove my laptop's wireless functionality.) Thanks in advance.

So my wifi won't connect any faster than aboout 4 or 5mbps to our uverse internet.  My wifes laptop, and both our phones get full speed.  I've done a ton of research but haven't found a fix for this issue.  It has the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x card in it. So far I'veshut down the antivirus - no changemade sure windows can't turn the device off to save power - no changeI even pulled out the card to make sure the connectiions weren't dirty - no change Does anyone have any other ideas?  Also, is there a better card that will work in this laptop?  If I can upgrade it I'll do it.

I was wanting to upgrade my computer's graphics card, the reason being my computer has 1.5 GB of RAM but still lags in games which only recommend around 512 MB because they also recommend a better graphics card.

I have a Dell Dimension B110 and my graphics card is a Intel 82865G, what graphics card would you suggest I buy for it?

Unfortunately, I don't think that the B110 has an AGP or PCI-Express slot, and no I don't feel like buying an entirely new motherboard.

No it doesn't, as seen here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim1100/EN/SM/parts.htm#wp1076314

You don't want to update to a new board with PCI-Express, but you want a better graphics card to game with !

... Well there is a good Topic here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic51437.html

But I wouldn't do that

Recently i posted a thread regarding upgrading a few things on my Pc. This is a side note from that. I currently have a Gefore FX5900 Nividia card. I want to upgrade to a faster newer card with at least pixel shading 2. I know that the PCI express cards are the go. Unfortunately i dont have a mother board that supports PCI -e so i have to go for a AGP card. What is the best and fastest card i can get ? Not stressed about the money. But whats the best. 6600 was mentioned by someone. Cheers in advance.

A:Graphics card upgrade.

well here is one of the best ones, but really for that price with only agp slot it's not really worth it, because you will only see so much of a good speed boost

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161069

or better prices

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150210

but how old is your system, because to play games these days you may want to just save up and consider a rebuild

good morningI own a PC pavilion 2302-el, and I must connect it to a 4K screen.I would like to replace the graphic card (Radeon HD7570) with one that supports the resolution to 4K (just to see movies and photos, not for gaming): is it possible? You have a list of cards that are compatible with this PC? Or, alternatively, to make sure that a card is compatible, what things I must check (for example, I see geforce gtx1050: it could be good)? Thank you Tommaso
