operating icons all show windows media center

Q: operating icons all show windows media center

Hi there
A couple of days ago I opened a program for stamp collectors call STAMP ALBUM. Since then everything opens with Windows Media Centre plus WMC automatically pops up every so often.
I have tried various ways of rectifying the problem but I have other associated problems such as:- 1. I can't open programs from the internet that may help. 2. I can't open the Samsung Recovery 5 program. 3. None of the icons has the "open with" facility. 4. The Default Program facility does not allow me to make changes to my laptop.
Every time I try #'s 1,2 and 4 it immediately goes to WMC
Can you help me please
Eddie

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi.

I'm mainly using WMC when I'm watching something. I have installed a few codec packs so most of the time it works fine.
I've got an episode of Naruto that suddenly didn't show the subtitles, though. (I've watch about 300 episodes of Naruto before this one and they all showed subtitles properly.)
At first I thought there was something wrong with the episode, so I opened it in Windows Media Player Classic (using CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack- which is the greatest thing since VLC) and it worked fine, showing subtitles with no problem. (However, the subtitles looked different, so I'm guessing there's another translator or something involved.)

So why doesn't WMC show subtitles when MPC does?
It's an .avi -file, and the subtitle is "built-in", so there's no extra file or anything.

EDIT: I tried with another Naruto Episode, which is in .mp4 format, and the subtitle works in both WMC and MPC. I still want my WMC to be able to play all files and subtitles, though.

Thanks in advance. =)

A:Windows Media Center doesn't show subtitles?

I googled and found this thread:

AVI files in WMC with idx/sub subtitles - Windows 7 Support Forums

With the answers:

Install the Shark007 Win7codecs and all of your subtitles will work as expected in the Windows players.

On the SWAP TAB, disable the Microsoft Video decoder.

I tried this and it worked. (I already had Shark007 Installed, so it was easy to try.)

Problem solved. =)

I have been having problems with Media Center, not downloading the guide.  I have been trying to follow all of Microsoft's recommendations for a fix.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  The advice told me to go into Services and find two files on the list and make sure they were both started:

Windows Media Center Receiver Service (was started), and
Windows Media Center Scheduler Service (wasn't started, I started it).
Then it told be to go to Show Processes from all Users.  And find six files on the list.  The instructions assumed the files would be there.  Only one of the files is.
How do I get the missing five files on the list?:
ehmsas.exe (missing)
ehrecvr.exe (on the list)
ehsched.exe (missing)
ehschell.exe (missing)
ehtray.exe (missing)
mcGlidHost.exe (missing)

Microsoft's directions d that these files would all be there.  It did not say what to do if any were missing.

Hello everyone. So I just got the Xbox 360 COD special edition. I'm checking out all my features on the Xbox. There's an option to somehow connect your computer to your Xbox. The requirement is to go through the Media Center. Well, first time starting up the Media Center on my computer, and I'm not able to get the Media Center to open. I receive an error right on startup of the program. It ends up generating a crash report, and closes. I've take 2 screenshots of the error. The first screenshot is of the first error that comes up upon opening the Media Center. The second screenshot is of another error I get when I choose to cancel instead of clicking ok on the first error. I thought getting the most information to you guys would be the best.

I run Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2005 Service Pack 3.

Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks a lot

I needed to reinstall 8.1 Pro over my OS to fix a damaged Windows file system. The performed procedure fixed my system but removed my Media Center, which was payed for years ago when i upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center from Win 8.0 Pro w/ Media Center.
I had to purchase it then, even though i already had it prior to the upgrade, and so i do not feel i should have to pay for it once again, especially since i saved the Product Key the second time!

I have some problems to sort the music files in the library. If there is an album with more than one disc, the sorting is like that: 1 - track 1 CD1 1 - track 1 CD2 2 - track 2 CD1 2 - track 2 CD2 etc... I would like more logical sorting like this: 1 - track 1 CD1 2 - track 2 CD1 etc... 1 - track 1 CD2 2 - track 2 CD2 etc... Do you see what I mean ? It seems that WMP/WMC doesn't sort using the "disc number" tag of the file (as it should be). Is there any way to sort it fine without creating 2 different albums for a 2 disc album ? Thank you.

A:Windows media player 12 / Windows Media Center - Multiple-Cds Albums sorting in library

The strange "subtitle" answer above is not really a valid notion given the lack of persistence.  When you step back, you see as koawmfot noted that this is really about the use of the "Set" field.  WMP does not and will not use the Set field to sort.  Instead it uses Album title as Shark noted. So the correct answer here would be to use the Album title field as the descriptive identifier.  If you really don't want to do this, you can use the track number such as by setting t1d1 to be 0101, t1d2 to be 0201, and so forth.  So those are the viable solutions, really. The problem with "Set" is that it doesn't fit well within the Explorer namespace / folder views.  This is consistent with the player storing one album in one folder, as opposed to dumping everything to one common folder - where you may have issues with filename collisions depending upon your naming scheme. As such it is not supported and is unlikely to be supported, sorry.

How do I know whether my IP is correct when this picture from http://www.show-ip.com/ shows wrong Operating Sytem as Windows NT even though when I have Windows 8.1 ? A:Show My IP Shows Windows NT Operating System

Windows NT is not an operating system. Windows NT is a family of operating systems produced by Microsofthttp://microsoft.wikia.com/wiki/Windows_NTThe various operating systems are part of that family.Think of it like this:Your family is a group of people related to each other. Each one of us is an individual member of a family. The different versions of Windows are the individual members of the NT family. The wiki link I posted in the quote has a chart of Windows NT Releases. What you are seeing has nothing to do with hackers. For what it's worth, show my ip also tells me Windows NT. My operating system is Windows 7.

Help. I have a HP media center computer. I have never used Media player and rarely use the Media Center software. Until yesterday when I tried to set up media player for my preshcooler to watch some video that I have on my HDD. Media Center view is very confusing for a kid so I thought I would use the Media Player and set up a library. Well nothing works. The darn thing will play a dvd in the dvd drive, but it won't play any video thats on the hdd including downloaded itunes video. I would like to set it up to be as easy as possible to use, point and clink. So my little girl can get to her stuff visually. I spent hours on the phone with HP and they said I needed a file converter. Well I tried that and I'm only making a mess of things. There has got to be a way. I have to be doing something simple wrong. I did the search and it seemed to find the files but didn't add any of them. This is really driving me nuts. I can't believe that I would have to convert itunes files to play in the media center. Not to mention every other file type I have. Which I have no idea. It seems most are *.VOB but this thing won't add any of my video files, not home recorded dvd stuff, not itunes, not backup dvds. Please tell me what I'm do... Read more

The freeware alternative I use Media Player Classic, which is much simpler and does a fine job of doing both video and audio.

Also, download & install the Klite Video Codec Pack, which will allow you to run DivX, Xvid and any other video format you might want.

Hello,

I have a older windows 7 x64 home premium pc, I have had no problems with the pc since I bought it in 2009. I use ccleaner and windows security but I am having connection issues. I have been trying for weeks different ways to repair it but have gave up and hope you good people can help me out.

I hope I have the correct forum I read in another that if I was having internet connection problems it would most likely be a virus/malware issue.

I have scanned my pc with advast and cleaned all I can from it only trojan it found was 1 named JS:Hideme-J I have tried all the netsh commands, checked options for the internet and even went as far to buy another Ethernet card which is giving me the same problems. And now when I open my pc from a restart my network and sharing center doesn't even show it is on and my internet connection looks as if it has been deleted all together and I cant even see my Ethernet cards.

I really cant tell if this is a virus situation or a hardware issue and need some guidance on this. When I trouble shoot the cards they both read in working order and I always have just 1 running while the other is disabled trying to figure out what is going on. Any help even help is saying I may need a new pc is appreciated so I can just take this thing out back and get rid of it.

Quote:
Give your Windows 7 a different look! The program icons on the Windows 7 by default are situated on the left side on the taskbar, next to your Start orb. But if you?d like them to appear in the center of the taskbar and maybe give it a dock kind of a look, here is what you need to do.

Quote:
Create an empty folder in your Documents folder, say MTTB. Next right click on the taskbar and unlock it. Again right click on it and select Tool bar > New tool bar. Select the empty folder MTTB.

Now right click on the new tool bar and unchecked Show Text and Show Title.
Next drag it (dotted separator) to the left side, between the start orb and taskbar icons and release it.
Center align the taskbar icons. Lock the taskbar.
Thats it!

I was never able to get the settings to stick or to log by trying to connect to NetZero through Windows Dial Up Networking. So I just click on the NetZero Icon and I can connect with no problem except that the double monitor icon does not show up in the system tray so that I can monitor my internet connection.

I emailed NetZero and they said it is not possible to connect to NetZero using Windows Dial Up Networking.

After I log on by using the NetZero Icon I can them go to control panel> network connections> properties and check the show icon box and it will show up in the system tray.

Am I doomed to have to do this everytime I log on or is there a way to make the icon stick in the system tray?

I finally called Lenovo support today and, without any troubleshooting, was told that I need to reset my machine to factory defaults. This is the worst, and laziest, support advice I've ever received. You tell a customer who has just spent dozens and dozens of hours setting up a new machine that they need to start over? Without any troubleshooting whatsoever? And with no guarantee that it will work?  I have learned my lesson about Lenovo products and Lenovo support. If I do reset the machine, it will be to return it to Costco after I purchase a different brand of computer. So glad for Costco's outstanding return policies!

My OS is Windows 7, 32 bit. When I open Windows Media Center I redieve a dialogue box which says "Windows Media Center has Stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution." No solution has been found evidently. I googled it and have tried everything that they have suggested. Including changing and item in the registry. Nothing has worked. If anyone has had this problem and fixed it, I would appreciate knowing how they did ikt. Thanks clementsdenning

Try repairing system files.
If you have any custom changes to system files, this will remove them.
Go to start/all prgrams/accessories.
Right click command prompt and click run as administartor.
At the prompt type sfc /scannow and hit enter.
There is a space between sfc /and scannow.
Let it run until completed.
Then close the window and restart the computer.
Try media center again.

Windows Media Center
I have not used Windows Media Center because I was using Verizon Media Manager. Verizon is dropping support for Media Manager and I may have to employ Media Center to stream computer videos to my TV. But, I can't find Windows Media Center!
It is supposed to be on Vista Ultimate.
Can you tell me what the .exe is called and where to look for the .exe?
Thanks

I have media center on my laptop, and i THINK it may be the cause of slow loading... at the windows xp screen while booting, the blue lines go past around 13 to 14 times, and i really didnt think with a laptop with the specs mine have would be so slow. The laptops where i work boot a lot faster, and have less RAM, and a slower processor so i was just wondering if im on the right path in thinking this or what i could do to make it boot faster... I only have a few things set to start with windows and its like wifi, and the sound card drivers...

I recorded the opening night of the Olympics for a friend, expecting to burn it to a DVD disk so he could watch it. However, the program was over four hours long, and now I can't burn to disk because of the large file size. Anybody know how to extract video from your hard drive when the file is too large for a single DVD? Dual layer won't help either. Thanks, Dale

How do I get Windows media center on my pc. I am running an older genuine copy of XP pro. When I try to validate it says there are technical issues or not a genuine copy. Could this be because Microsoft has ended support?

A:windows media center

Microsoft's support for XP ends on April 8th, 14 days from now.

What is the exact error message?

I just got a brand new laptop that has windows vista home premium. It came with Windows Media Center.

My question is can I access my music from my XP desktop from this vista laptop. When I select watch folders from another computer on the network, it doesn't find any.

If it helps I have already set up my xbox 360 to get music from the xp desktop and it works perfectly.

Thanks in advance.

A:Windows Media Center

I would suggest first placing some of your music in the Shared Music folder on the XP system. If you're able to access that music, then this is a permissions issue with your accounts. If not, then there's a lot of other stuff to try.

I'm having problems accessing internet tv in windows media center. I have tried to run program as admin., i.e., sfc/scannow prompt, cd/d%windir%\ehome>start/waitmcupdate-uf, cdc:\windows\ehome>start/waitmcupdate-u-nogc, neither of these three prompts helped. Have also tried uninstall windows>re-install windows, also no help. No error message appears, posts as successful download but no internet tv tiles appear. Tv guide appears but does not respond. Any and all solutions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a HP Media Center PC where I have the TV card on my computer. Now when I record movies it is in a very odd format, I beleive specifically for use on your own computer. Now I wanna take old VHS tapes of christmas, birthday, etc. and put them onto my pc. I do have the front video jacks and audio jacks but I am not sure where to start. Any tips on using this pc ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00280666 ) to transfer vhs on the hard drive?

A:Windows Media Center & VHS to DVD

Use the coxial cable input as WinMCE doesn't allow switching the source. Then turn to channel three or four like you normally would to watch movies off the VCR, and press the record button.

If you wish to cut out parts, you'll need to use Dcut, which is freeware, http://www.inseattle.org/~dan/Dcut.htm
and accessable under "more programs" in MCE.

To burn the video to DVD's, you'll either need sonic-encoders (packaged with retail media center PC's) which shows up under "more programs" in MCE as "burn DVD/CD", or you'll need another burning application that supports MS-DVR files. The only burning application that I can think of, off the top of my head, that supports MS-DVR files is Nero burning rom. There are others, I just cant think of them now.

I own a Windows Vista Ultimate computer, and I used to play my Xbox 360 on my old ATi computers TV tuner. To play it, I set the TV mode to composite. I recently got my TV onto my new Windows Vista Media Center, But I cannot play my 360 on it. Is there any way I can play on it, without buying a whole new TV tuner.

Hey guys.
I couldn't find a category for just Windows Media Center, so sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.

I was wondering if anyone knew why when I go to Windows Media Center, then click on music, why I have doubles/triples of every song. Also, is there a way to fix this?

A:Windows Media Center

delete all the songs from the media library then readd them saying only add new songs.

A:windows media center

Hi river

You definitely won't be able to watch T.V. if you end the ehrecvr.exe service --- it's the receiver service for playing T.V. in Media Center.

Just in case, make sure your version hasn't been corrupted = run a few malware scans.

If you still can't watch T.V. in Media Center with the receiver service running, double-check in msconfig that you haven't disabled any other necessary components of the Media Center. You can also try a run of Windows Resource Protection (yet another new name & strategy for the old System-File-Checker) --- in short, while logged in with administrative priveledges, from a command prompt type sfc /scannow --- for the whole story, the full details for running this procedure are here --- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Some of the older versions of Media Center had compatibility issues that led to excessive cpu use by the receiver service (Cyberlink, Nero, and others portions of suites were mentioned) you might check your mix of multimedia apps for clues. Here's a thread that mentions some of Media Center's earlier sluggishness causes --- http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.ph...entry586758068

Check, too, in your EventViewer logs in the Administrative Tools in Control Panel for other clues.

Best of luck

Does anyone know how to upgrade my existing PC - HP with AMD with Windows XP Home - purchased last year, to a Windows Media Center?

Would I just need a TV Tuner and remote and the latest MS O/S?

If so, where can I purchase these items?

I just don't want to go out an purchase a new PC to have this!

A:Windows Media Center

You would have to install Media Center Edition from scratch because MCE is not available as an upgrade last I checked.

What exactly are you planning to do with this?

You can find great deals at www.newegg.com if you are in the US.

I need to know if there is an installation disc for XP Media Center that includes SP3.  I was running sfc on a Media Center laptop that has SP3 installed, it was happy with an XP Pro SP3 disc that I had, but it clled for disc 2.  I have Media Center
2005, but it would not accept it.  This laptop could be completely fixed if the sfc could complete its run; the owner does not want to reinstall.  Any ideas about getting a disc that would work?
Thanks!
