Net Print on HP DeskJet 1220C--Insufficient Disk Space, Spooling Problem

Q: Net Print on HP DeskJet 1220C--Insufficient Disk Space, Spooling Problem

I get this problem after printing a page or two over a shared 1220C. I have to always click 'skip' or something. Beaucoup space on the hard drive, but I still get this message.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Alright *takes a breath* here's my story

1) I Bought a HP Deskjet 1220 C while I had WinME and it worked fine
2) Upgraded to WinXP Pro and downloaded new drivers and it worked fine
3) 1 Year later
4) Big time Computer breakdown (I screwed up the registry) and so it came that I cleared my entire computer. Formatted a new drive and installed WinME again.
5) Re-upgraded to WinXP Pro (same cd I used before)
6) Plugged in the printer and got the new drivers from the site for the 1220C PS printer (post script).
7) Printer starts printing and then just stops at either half a page or 3/4 of a page or even one line of a page and spits the rest out
8) Aligned the cartridges, cleaned printer heads, etc and still the same problem.
9) Called HP - told me to re-install it. So I did (still with the wrong drivers)
10) Called HP again, talked to them for about an hour - did some testing and realized I had the wrong drivers.
11) Unistalled everything to do with the printer, hooked it back up - installed it through WinXP (right drivers this time)
12) Same problem
13) Downloaded updated toolbox and drivers (same ones most likkely) and installed them. Same problem
14) HP told me that the printer works and the drivers works, from the tests we've done and that problem was most likely with the spooler. Told me to check out MS' site, but I couldn't find anything there.

I have a HP Deskjet 1220C when if you make a mistake in the size of paper and offer it A4 instead of A3, for example, or the other day the paper jammed and I had to pull it out (of the front) it now won't stop spewing out rubbish (just a couple of lines on each page). This has now been going on for a day and a half non-stop!

This happened before and one kind person advised me that I needed to push a certain button or combination of buttons 3 times and it stopped!!! However, I can't remember which ones and nothing I try seems to work.

There is no job in the print queue, so can't delete it. If you turn the machine off, it continues to print when turned back on. I have removed all the cables from it and reconnected. I've rebooted my computer AND NOTHING WILL STOP IT. HELP!!!

Hello cremsoc and welcome to BC.The easiest thing to try here would be to uninstall/reinstall the printer (the software portion). Do you have the CD that came with the printer?HP has some info on that printer in HP Deskjet 1220c Printer series Support & Troubleshooting

I just purchased a new HP Workstation with Win 7.

Sorry to all of you, but I hate Win 7.

Worse, the idiotic User Account settings are an incredible pain. Went to the MS site and found information on how to turn all of the UAC's off. I then tried installing a trial version of ACAD and received the message I did not have adequate authorization to install the software!

So today I connected my Deskjet 1220c to the USB port and tried installing the driver. Screwed up my internet and I had to contact HP tech support. Turns out it messed up my Broadcom driver???? Had to uninstall it and then reboot.

Got that fixed and tried installing the printer from Win 7 printer installation in Control Panel. Error message comes back that there is a problem with the printer. Clicked on "find a solution" and Windows comes back with "can't find a solution" to this problem.

Go to the HP site and it says go to the MS Windows Update. Go there - no printer driver.

Searched this forum and see that others who had similar problems were able to download and install 64 bit Vista drivers. Clicked on several of the links that were supposed to take me to the HP download page for the driver, but the driver is no longer there - just a message to use Windows Update.

Spoke with someone at HP and they said that because my printer is so "old" they cannot provide any support unless I am willing to pay a fee - BS.

I had similar problems with a 960c printer. But, when you go to install the drivers, the first pass through Windows Update will faill -- as there is no Win7 driver. But ... there is an option (sorry, don't remember the details) to have Windows Update provide a much LARGER list of drivers -- for older equipment. I did that and when I selected HP, I found drivers for the 960c. Perhaps you can do the same for the 1220c.

Printer: HP Deskjet 1220c
OS: Windows XP

I have just installed a new hard drive and tried to install this printer.. I downloaded the software and driver bundle from the HP site.. the printer functions okay but the toolkit says its incapable of two way communication.

Also whenever the computer is restarted, and the printer turns on an alert appears saying a new device is attached. When I run the installation wizard it says the port is unavailable.

I have reinstalled a number of times.
Any ideas?

Does anyone have a printer driver for XP that actually works for the Deskjet 1220C? Melissa- I have done all the things mentioned in your very well written post. I'm having a problem with something using up my space in my windows 7 computer. I have the a a vipre antivirus software and a 64 bit laptop computer. I've only had it a year. It has 250 G and only 6 G left not used. I have hardly any downloads on it. I have gone through the c drive looking for what is eating up the space & am unable to find what it is. Do the updates from microsoft use up that much space? I have done all the analyzing & defragging. I only have 1 game- scrabble which I purchased. I do very little on this computer other than word documents. Do you have any ideas? Thanks for your help

A:Insufficient Disk Space

prpllotus: I have used Vipre and let me tell you - the worst AV I have ever used.

To your problem: Enter dos prompt. click run-- "cmd". I would try a "chkdsk /f" - it will ask to reboot, push y. Exit dos prompt and reboot your machine then it will perform a check on your hdd. It will most likely take a little longer than a normal error check.

Hi Guys
I save my backup every week to a dedicated 1tb internal back-up disc (one of four HDDs). All of a sudden my weekly back-ups are not completing because of insufficient disc space (179gb available from 931GB). When I go into manage space to clear backups I have only 2 backups to chose from; both around 170gb.

I looked at the HDD and I cannot work out why so much space has been accounted for. I can see three normal folders; "Logs" (196KB), "Temporary Adobe" (8.9GB) and "WindowsImageBackup" (365GB) and a fourth named after the PC (which indicates a "0" file size). In the WidowsImageBackup I can see only one file that accounts for 99% of the folder size.

Can anyone tell me please how to proceed and free up space and why only half of the allocated space seems to be showing?

A:Insufficient Back-up Disk Space

It would be helpful if you could post a screenshot of the error message.

Sometimes the problem is not in the destination disk but in one of the source disks not having enough room to create a shadow copy. Can you also post a screen shot of your disk management screen maximized.

Hello Acsanna and welcome to TSG!!

I found the following solution to someone else asking the same sort of question. Not sure if it will help you or not ...
This is for Windows Vista--depending on your version of Windows, some steps could be worded a little bit differently. Don't worry, you should still get to the right place eventually!
Go to "Start"
Go to "Control Panel"
Below "Hardware and Sound," click Printer
Right click the printer you want and select "sharing"
Click "Advanced" tab
Choose "Print directly to the printer"
Apply and then press OK
You are set to go!

I got this error message when trying to copy a picture from a site in Firefox. I was not running any other program.

There is insufficient memory or disk space.

I went to another site and found the same picture and copied it successfully into a word doc of 36 KB.

I got this once before after Avast blocked something. I don't know if I have a bug or what. Only had Firefox open then also.

I don't notice my computer running slow or anything. Maybe it is nothing?

To start with, specs:

Vista 32bit Home Edition SP1
2x Seagate Sata HDs, 300 and 320gb EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure exactly how big they are, but they're in that vicinity.
Partitioned as shown in this screenshot:

C: is for OS, E: is where I store everything I download / create before organising it into D: or F: . All HDs are NTFS.

I recently reformatted D: and I'm in the process of reinstalling my games when I come across this error. It says I have insufficient memory when I try to install on D: or F: yet I clearly do (as can be seen in the screenshot).

I thought maybe it was the game (FEAR) so I tried with an older game, Baldur's Gate and I get the same problem.

Screenshots of what is going on:

This is the baldur's gate error message, I've included how much space it's saying that I have left as well. This is trying to install on D:

This is the same thing but trying to install on F:

To show that this isn't just Baldur's Gate, here's the error message from trying to install F.E.A.R.

I've been downloading my steam games as well and it doesn't seem to have any problem with this. (Each game is gb's of space). It seems to me to be a problem with InstallShield.

Any advice is appreciated!

Run a disk scan on each HDD for errors.

Enter My Computer and right click on one of the HDD's on the new window click the TAB "Tools" and click the button under error-checking. You will be asked to restart, click no and do this for the other HDD. when the restart message appears click yes.
Disk check might scan one HDD, reboot and then check the other one so it might take some time.

Hey! Thank you for getting back to me. I absolutely understand! Buying new products, getting to know them, personalizing them and fiddling with them can be a lot of fun, but sometimes it can be frustrating.  It seems that the C:/ drive was set for much smaller files. Without being able to see it physically, I assume that your Operating System, Recovery Manager and other system files are stored to your 256GB drive or C:/ drive.  I would suggest to use the 2TB D:/ drive to put all of your pictures and personal files on as it is bigger and that can be designated for you . Although it seems confusing, it really is a good thing!  I would like to provide you with your OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-040na User Guides and Manuals. That way if you want to read about your product, the option is there for you.  I hope that this helps!

My back-up disk space is 6.99GB. When I run back-up, I get a message that the back-up did not complete due to insufficient disk space. How can I increase the space allowed for back-up?

A:Solved: Insufficient disk space for back-up/recovery.

Cleanup System Restore

System Restore is a part of Windows that you can use to restore your computer to a previous state if a problem occurs. System Restore monitors changes to the system and creates restore points automatically. Once your system has been running stable for a while, you can delete all restore points except the last one in order to recover disk space.
To do this, Start Disk cleanup which can be found by navigating the following; Start Menu > Programs > Accessories> System Tools > Disk Cleanup. Once the calculation has finished, go to the “more options” tab. In the system restore section, Press the “Clean-up” button, then ok to continue.

I received the "Insufficient memory or disk space" message on my laptop after the OS (C:) Hard Drive reached capacity. I had to remove programs and I have been unable to load anything new due to this situation. There are over 700GB of unused memory between 2 hard drives listed as follows:

Model: Asus Notebook N73SV
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
Memory: 8GB SODIMM

Hard Drives
1. ST9500420AS 465.78GB w/ 3 Partitions

Logical Disks (1-4 Local Fixed Disk)
1. C: OS NTFS 197.55GB w/ 8.85GB Free
2. D: Data NTFS 243.21GB unused
3. E: SDATA1 NTFS 232.88GB unused
4. F: SDATA2 NTFS 232.87GB unused

I know the answer is basically in this and other forums and I assure you that I researched setting up partitions and this error message with multiple confusing results. I am fairly capable with a computer, but I do not wish to loose any data nor crash the system by doing the incorrect process in order to use all of my usable memory. Please assist me if possible or direct me to where I may find the correct process. I know that Asus tech support wasn't the right way to find the answer. I appreciate your help.

i have only had this new laptop less than a month but kept getting notices right away that windows was unable to do updates due to lack of disk space. this mystified me because i had not added a thing to the c drive and for awhile i couldnt even find the c drive to take a look at it (because it is now in "this pc")... anyhow, was amazed to see that program files alone took up something like 29 of the 32 gigs on the system.

i mean, is it possible that this brand new win10 system was engineered with not enough margin of space to do a stinkin update? the answer is YES. unbelievable.

the messages said to clear out unneeded files or use an external drive of minimum 10 gigs. i did disk cleanup (recommended) but of course there was nothing to clean up so that did not help. so i was stumped until a very nice tech person from audible dot com went a bit off the beaten path to counsel me and poke around my system in the course of fixing an audible issue...

i ended up using a 32 gb thumb drive to attempt the update, which did work, but left unanswered my question, being, is the 10 gigs needed just to facilitate the update, or is it then going to be essential for actually running the win10 system after the update?? i decided to just take a chance because i was sick of knowing i needed updates, but couldnt do them. what's with ms these days? or is acer to blame?

so anyhoo, after about 5+ hours of the update running, the system booted and seems to run normally, but i notice... Read more

A:insufficient disk space on brand new win10 laptop to do initial update

The update you are talking about was the major upgrade to 10586 while hasically reinstalls the OS but keeps all the data. This memory issue fortunately only affects that update!

You can remove the flash drive now and it should work fine.

Try this first, and if it is fine, you can format drive to reuse it.

More importantly, buy an SD card (64GB I would recommend) and move your data to it.

You can set it up in storage so all data is stored on sd card.

You can also set it up so programs and apps are stored there as well but I would only do that later if memory becomes a problem.

Now upgrade has been done, you should install Macrium Reflect Free and make a backup of the installation to a usb stick. You will need to create a Macrium Rescue drive, and a backup image (recommend a 32GB flash drive). We can guide you through this.

Once you have done the backup, run disk cleanup to delete the old installation files (selecting to clean up the system installation files).

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right forum, so my apologies in advance if it's in the wrong place.

I have 2 printers connected 2 a win98 Dell PC and have 2 XP Dell laptops that use the printers. I have had an HP laserjet 5MP and an HP color inkjet 1100 connected to it. The spool time to the 5MP has been normal. When I connected the HP 1100 a year ago, the spool time was very slow and it took a long time to get the print dialogue box to open, but I (ignorantly!) assumed it was the printer and since I don't use it often, just didn't deal with it. I just replaced the 5MP with a HP laserjet 2420 and it is slow, slow, slow to spool, to open a print menu, to open print properties, etc. When I turn print sharing off, it both printers print fine. I'm wondering if the win98 machine just doesn't have the processing speed necessary, but before I buy a print server or get an XP desktop to connect the printers to, thought I'd try to get some insight into the problem.

Thanks for any help!

CHKDSK won?t go any further because there is "Insufficient disk space to fix the security descriptors data stream."

Microsoft?s advice (Error Message:) is of no help to me. They say to ?delete some unneeded files from the disk and try again,? which doesn?t help me since I can?t get the drive to mount or stay mounted long enough to copy the files onto a different drive.

The drive behaves differently each times I power up its enclosure, but it is usually one of these things:

Drive doesn't mount.
Drive mounts after a few minutes. I see a generic "Local Disk L:" in Windows Explorer but, when I try to explore its folders, the computer takes about 15 minutes trying to read it (I can see the progress bar moving slowly across the top of the screen), and then says that "The parameter is incorrect." Drive disappears from Windows Explorer.

A friend has a HP 560C running on an old 486dx. When he tries to print an email out everything works fine except that the bottom line of print doesn't print correctly. It prints the top 10% or so of the line but the rest is a combo of blur and non print. I checked the printer settings but could find no settings in there that I felt would affect the bottom print line. Never did find any scaleable margins or page size which I thought might help. Page size seemed to be preset .
The system uses Win95 O.S., not enough memory to upgrade to 98, and he uses explorer and web based email through Juno.

I did try to print from Eduro and the page printed in its entirity, but we ended up with the header info. Tried copy/paste and lost the last line when printing out of word pad or note pad.

Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

What browser are you using to print from? Check the settings in the browser itself because it's not a printer problem. Have you also tried a different version of the same driver?

I used Creative Lab's Wave Studio for years with a single problem.

I loaded it onto my sister's computor and the first time I tried to save a file, I got an error message saying:

"There is insufficient disk space to save (file name)."

She had several gigs of open space so I just chalked it up to something funky of her PC.

A few weeks later, my HD crashed, so I installed a new one and re-loaded my software. When I fired up my Wave Studio (version 4.02), I got the same message. Now I had roughly 75 GIGS of free space.

I'm not a newcomer to the world of software troubleshooting, but this one has me stumped.

Any help would go a long way to restoring my sanity.

comments : I have external Iomega Zip drive and HP ScanJet 5P as part of my system. The printer starts to print word document and stops mid stream. In the past I have shut down computer, restarted and it works. I'm thinking of uninstalling printer and scanner and reinstalling. In the past I have had .dll error messages(I may have inadvertently deleted some .dll a while back when moving scanner files from C drive to Zip drive, my system has never been the same since.) Your consideration is appreciated and lunch is on me if we ever meet.

Not really sure exactly which forum to post this under, so I'm starting here!

I have two PCs on a small home Ethernet network (conencted to broadband router). Each PC has a directly-connected printer, which is the default printer for the PC to which it is attached. So far, so good!

I have added another printer to the network. This has an Ethernet conenction and its own internal print server. Each PC can select and print to that printer individually OK, as an alternative to its default printer.

Problem - if one PC happens to try to print to the network printer when it is already busy printing another file, then instead of the second print being put in the queue for that printer it is spooled to the locally-attached default printer instead.

Not sure if this is a XP print spool, network or printer-specific problem. Does anyone have any suggestions please how to ensure that the spool stays in the right queue?

This is true for my setup--try it on yours...

In control panel/printers and faxes, right click the printer in question, click properties, and on the advanced tab you'll find spooling options (one I have is 'print directly to the printer).

Hi Folks,

After I installed the new Mozilla Firefox browser, I've been unable to print. I don't know how that could happen -- I don't see the connection. I tried reinstalling the printer software, but that didn't work.

Do you folks have any idea what could have happened?

Thanks in advance!

In my office, we have recently starting have issues with our shared office printer. Many of our documents have started not coming through because it says there is "Error-Printing-Spooling". We have tried printing from various different programs and each of our computers (i have an iMac and the other computers are Dells). Some things print, some things don't. The printer guys came out this morning to replace a part and said they didn't know what the issue was. So, we are somewhat at a loss for what to do. Any help you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Everything was working fine (for the most part) on Windows XP SP2 for months.

Now all the printer installations have disappeared. This was shortly after refusing to upgrade ZoneAlarm but downloading it for my laptop. When trying to reinstall, I get the message that "the print spooling service is not running" and the printer, HP 1012, will not install.

I tried starting it manually per advice from HP'w web site and it does not stay started. I recently backed up the whole hard driver onto a new one. I copied the spoolsv.exe to the desk top and put a copy on the new drive where I can find it again. I then took the back up copy of spoolsv. exe and copied it into Windows on the C drive. I was warned that I was replacing a file of the same name with the same date. I copied over anyway and tried it again.

I got the same error message.

I tried to see if I could repair it with my XP Pro disk but I was warned that this was an older version and was strongly recommended that it did not do it. So I stopped that.

Any suggestion?

I have a Toshiba Satellite 355, 4 GB RAM. I also have an Epson Workforce 610, which also works great.... eventually. (I have tried the Epson wirelessly connected, as well as direct-connect with a USB cable)

Two symptoms:
1) If I have the Epson selected as the default printer, when I start MS Office app (Word or Excel) I get a message that says "Connecting to printer, hit ESC to cancel". If I have 30 minutes or so to wait, I'll let it find the printer, but most of the time I hit ESC, or don't select the Epson as my default printer.

2) Printing in general takes FOREVER to spool, then FOREVER to print. I've talked to Epson, and they say it's not the printer's problem, since it prints fine once it gets the data. They point to data transfer speeds from my laptop.

This is frustrating... Has anyone else experienced this issue with Vista-64/Toshiba/Epson?

The problem I have has to do with a printer that has been installed for quite sometime. It has been working fine until about a week ago. When I try to print something from my laptop through the network through another computer. I now receive a message that states the print spooler service is not running. I have tried deleting the printer and re-installing a new on and receive the same message. Is there a way to turn the service on.

Have you checked in Services to see if it's running. Go to Start>Run, type services.msc then click OK. Scroll down to Print Spooler look under the column Status to see if service has been started or stopped.

I am having a problem with my HP C8180 printer. It is connected wirelessly to my computer yet when I print something the screen on the printer says 'now printing', but it fails to print anything. However, I tried printing a few words and that worked but I still can't print documents. I think this has something to do with the disk space on the print server and about something called 'spooling'. I would greatly appreciate anyone's help on this issue.

Thank you,

Greetings all!

All of a sudden I can not print anymore. My hp printer and my acrobat printer/distiller is gone.

I have tried to open a Command Window and type in net start spooler. It tells me that print spooler service is starting and that it was started successfully. Now I go back to CP and to Printers and it gives me the same error!

I have also check in the computer management area and the setting is automatic for the spooler.

I have also used the windows resource tool kit to help solve the problem and it too has failed.

Spoolsv.exe doesn't show up in my process's running list either!

I need help! So if anyone can help I would be very greatful!

OS - Windows 7 Profession x64
Client PC attached to a Domain
Printer: HP CM1312nfi
Printer Port:  Networked Printer
Printer Driver obtained from HP website (Full software)
Problem Description:
When printing a large image say 30MB .jpg to the printer, it's queuing up kilo bytes at a time
vs. mega bytes at a time.  So printing takes 15-20 minutes.
Same file on Vista machine takes 1 to 2 minutes to print.
Tried to stop/start the print spooler - no luck
Have latest patches for Win 7
Tried with both user with "User" Privileges and user with "Administrator" privileges.
User Access Control is OFF
Any Ideas?
PS.  Reinstalled the driver twice already.

A:Print Spooling very very slow to a network printer

If the printer driver you installed is not the latest version, I would like to suggest you reinstall the latest version of the driver and the firmware
HP website.
Note: The third-party products discussed here are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise,

After that, I also would like to suggest you perform the following troubleshooting suggestions:
Clear Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service
1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
3. Click Stop and click OK.
4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder.
5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.
Does it work?
