I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently (in the last couple of days) my comp has been randomly shutting down programs. When I click search for a solution online it "pretends" to look and then just stops and the window closes. Also programs like skype and my asus sound center have disappeared. I run MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 with AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor BE-2350, 4.0GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT.

I use avast! Antivirus and did a full system scan...came up with no viruses, but one file was "unscannable". C:\ProgramData\Pure Networks\Platform The error went as this... Error: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable (1392) but when I scanned the Pure Networks folder manually there was no threat found.

I use Firefox 5.0 with 10MB cable internet and it is entirely too slow. When I started getting error messages my internet also started to intermittently go out and I have to reset my router at least 5 times a day. I watch movies and tv shows at Hulu.com and Netflix.com and the videos have started to buffer every 5 seconds. I literally tried watching an episode and it took me 30 mins to get through 11 mins of the show.

My CPU usage spikes at 100% very often and my memory usage hovers between 1.28GB to 1.5GB.

I have no idea if these are all of the same issue or if they are different. So I apologize if they are multiple problems. I would like to focus on the program disappearances and errors first if they are separate issues.

I have Windows XP. I have used AT&T Self Support Tool and like it but had to remove it because of other problems.
Used the program removal in Control Panel. It disappeared and the icon on the desktop left. When I tried to reinstall, after some of the installation seemed to happen, a message said that I already had it on my computer. Needless to say, I can't find it. No Icon, No program listing. Have tried all the answers from other forums, none work. The one that said uncheck Motive SB.exe in my startup tab really upset my computer which told me to put it back like it was. Other answers end up wanting me to buy some program. I'd appreciate some help.

Im having a problem on my Surface RT when it locks up and wont respond to anything. After a few minutes it will restart. A system dump is not created although it is setup to create one so not sure why one doesn't come up.

I do get a few 'disk' event in the logs:

'The IO operation at logical block address 2ccc8b8 for Disk 0 was retried.'

Looking back I have noticed a lot of these events starting in November. The computer doesn't lockup and restart every time one of these events occur but any locking up is not ideal. Id say its happened maybe 3 or 4 times since I got it in November.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? I have read some people have blamed certain applications for the event but obviously this been RT I don't have any third party applications installed. I have also read disabling dynamic tick by running 'bcdedit /set disabledynamictick' has fixed the issue but with this been RT I am reluctant to try that.

I don't ideally want to clean the pc and start again I have customised my surface greatly.

Thanks in advance for any help

I have for many years used Powerdesk 5 (a freebie) after first purchasing v3.x many years ago. I became extremely attached to it for various reasons, but primarily because it had an accessible feature that allowed one to copy the complete path of a file. I couldn't give that up.

To make a long story short, various efforts to get the latest and the previous version to work in a stable manner with Win7 have failed.

But there is good news! I discovered that Windows Explorer has a 'hidden' feature that allows one to copy the complete path, albeit with unnecessary double-quotes around it - but still, by pressing shift before right-clicking and there in the middle of the menu is "Copy as path" !!!

A:Powerdesk retired for me: too many incompatiblilities with Win7 + tip

I have all the paid for versions of Power5desk up to 8.0 and have also stopped using it. The main reason being it's just too slow. It has a lot of nice features but I don't find any I need on Win 7 any more.

The one thing I did use was it's Sync capability to occasionally keep two folders on two different computers in sync. I now do that automatically with a program called MirrorFolder, so .... bye bye PowerDesk.

The Copy as path is un-needed. When you are at the location you want in Windows Explorer, click on the Bread-crumbs (Address) bar.

C:\ > Program Files (x86) > Carbonite > Carbonite Backup
C:\Program Files (x86)\Carbonite\Carbonite Backup. Right click and Copy!

This is my first time on this website, so please excuse my inexperience in how to use it!

As others have reported, I have also been experiencing the problem with the Windows No Disk error. Although I am not sure, this seems to occur each time I try to use my Roxio Disk Copying program. The message comes up, but does not prevent me from making copies of disks, although it stays up the entire time.

I have found that clicking on cancel or continue of the message does not make it go away, and ultimately, the only way I get rid of it is to either log off and back on (which does not work all the time), or restart or shut down entirely, and then restart. There have been a couple of times where my compuuter locked up entirely, and I had to do manually shut it down and then restart, which is not so healthy for the computer. I have not noticed any real pattern as to why some things will work at times, and not on others.

In reading other posts on this subject, there were recommendations to run hijackthis, and then post the log. I have downloaded and run this program, with the results shown below. Any help possible would be most appreciated!!! I am a beginner to somewhat intermediate user, so please explain what to do in the most descriptive way possible.

I have tried to upload the hijackthis log, but just in case not, I will also cut and paste it below.

Thank you so much for any help you can offer to get rid of this problem!

I recently purchased 2 brand new HP Envy X360 15Ts from the HP Website.  They were on sale at the beginning of December.  I have been experiencing a display issue with one and went on the HP Support site to look for support.  After allowing the site to detect my device and serial number the site returns the message:- The product you have selected is retired, and support services for it have not been available from HP for several years. Once a product has reached the end of its support life, all official HP support content (troubleshooting articles, user guides, how-to videos, etc.) for that product is removed from the HP web site. I tried to call for support for the display issue and was told that because the product is brand new it is handled by another team and to call a different number.  Each number I call, I am told the same thing and given a new number to call. Can anyone tell me how I can get support for my issue?  Why does the warranty state that the device is retired?  I even purchased the extended warranty. Thanks for any help you can give. Trevor.

A:I need a audio driver for a "retired" notebook computer.

Hi: There are some older model notebooks that only have 32 bit audio driver support. Please provide the following info, so I can see if I can be of help. 1.  The product number of your dv8000.  The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number. 2.  The hardware ID for the device you see listed in the device manager as a multimedia audio controller. To find the hardware ID, click on the Multimedia Audio Controller in the device manager. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Multimedia Audio Controller window. Now you will see a property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

I don't mean for an office environment, but for personal use. I just started my own office and would like to set u a network in the office. I have setup networks( mostly wireless) at home. I woud like to setup a hybrid network. office will have one server , about 3 desktops , printer/scanner and one laptop. i am setting up asterix pbx ( a friend is helping with that) and voip phones. have to run wires across 3 rooms. would like to have wireless networking for laptop use. I have zyxel 550 mimo router and plan to extend it by adding a switch.

I need a basic idea about how to run wires. have to run wires across 3-4 rooms. my understanding is that i need one cable for each computer. So if i have a printer and computer in a room-- i would need to run two cables from two ports---right?

also need help with which cable to use cat5 cat5e? what other equipment do I need?

appreciate your help much!

A:need help in setting up a network in a small medical office

Basically the rule of thumb is one cable per device. I would use cat5e for this type of setup as it will give you room for expansion as cat5e is gigabit ethernet capable (assuming growth is always good instead of re-wiring infrastructure). This is the cable most often used in fast ethernet setups (100MBps).

Also keep in mind that the maximum length you can use for the cabling is 100M or your going to run into some serious issues.

You also need to use different ethernet cable types for the devices. For Example - If you go from Router to a computer, you use straight through. If you go from router to switch, you also use a straight through. The only time you connect devices using a crossover cable, is like devices. Ex - switch to switch, router to router.

Having upgraded my 6 home devices ( 2PCs, laptop ultrabook surface pro 3 and netbook) to windows 10 I have started on the 23 workstations in our Medical Practice, 3 so far, mostly ok and they definitely go faster. Our main software works ok, a couple
of softwares to check. Main problem is the internet options. Internet explorer has a large and bewildering array of options, including trusted sites, phishing filters, and advanced options including "access data sources across domains". I have tested
our remote login which is based on remote desktop and it works for both outlook and controlling a workstation. Our 2 xray logins don't work on edge, because it doesn't allow "access data sources across domains" to download the images to view in a
locally installed advance DICDOM image viewer and manipulator. As all xray providers are now online in Australia ( fouir of them in our area), I presume this is a problem in the US too, are you going to fix this or must we continue to use internet explorer?
These settings don't work in any other browser either. However Regional Imaging, which uses Intelliviewer, has provided an alternative, one can view the images online in any browser ( including edge) which is basic but adequate for simple viewing. Phillips
isite software using the citrix plugin only works on internet explorer.

I have been reworking a small existing medical research database. In expanding the data fields, I've run into several 'major' problems. Some I have resolved and some proved to be too complex for my limited knowledge. Now I question whether the original dbase design is adequate for the task?

The basis of the study is to follow each patient through cardiac rehab (pre and post) and then to track each patient for 5 years of follow-up (one time per year).

This adds up to 7 visits per patient, times each of the factors (apprx 50). This is where I have the problem. The list of items tracked is extensive, lab values, medications (i.e. increased, reduced), vital signs, level of compliance, cholesterol levels, positive risk factors (i.e. diabetic, hypertensive) etc.

The original dbase tracked the patients for 3 years, and for fewer factors. It worked well. The data entry form was on one page. It was set up as a relational dbase one-to-many (each patient's basic info-to-all variables).

My problem began as I extended each factor by two years, and then added additional subjects for the five years... I ran into the "255" max fields error.

I have a table of basic patient info, name, age, doctor, start date of cardiac rehab, etc. I have rebuilt the dbase from scratch, several times. I broke out each field group (i.e. blood pressure, cholesterol, medications) into a table of its own. I have tried splitting the entry data form into several, I would '... Read more

The medical IoT is set to transform healthcare through smart medical devices. However, their success is in jeopardy if cybersecurity concerns are not addressed immediately.

ABI Research believes that the millions of connected medical devices introduce dangerous new threat vectors into the healthcare IT infrastructure, and will seriously undermine patient safety and effective care delivery if left unchecked.

?We estimate spending by healthcare providers and OEMs on healthcare cybersecurity to reach $5.5 billion by 2016,? says Michela Menting, Research Director at ABI Research. ?However, only $390 million of that will be dedicated to securing medical devices. Healthcare stakeholders have to understand that there is a new hostile environment that will emerge around networked medical devices and that threat actors have multiple levels of skills and diverging motivations for attacking the medical IoT.?

The money spent on securing medical devices will primarily be due to OEMs embedding security in the hardware, reviewing, analyzing, pen testing, developing patches, and performing OTA updates, among other functions.

The rest of the expenditure will focus on data protection. But medical devices suffer from numerous vulnerabilities, and many often compound several critical vulnerabilities: code errors in software, use of hardcoded passwords, disabling of firewalls, lack of authentication mechanisms, unencrypted communications, among many other issues.

AV care is gone, among many of the others that were detected. basically he went through combofix - hijackthis - malwarebyte - and the infection seemed gone. however, mcafee is still picking upNTOSKRNL-HOOK.I think once we finally get rid of this, the problems will be gone. judging from related ntoskrnl-hook problems all around the net, please tell me theres a better way than reinstalling the OS.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 9:53:03 PM, on 8/3/2009Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16876)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXEC:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\AAWService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\SiteAdvisor\McSACore.exeC:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\MSC\mcmscsvc.exec:... I never got this when I do a create in system restore. The error said the restore didn't work because it was "RETIRED". Did I read that right? Is there such a thing. I did create later on, and it worked. Hope this isn't a virus.

Hi folks,
I started having this problem sometime in the latter part of 2014. While reading my medical journals and moving on to the next article, the fbi website pops up and supplants my medical journal website. I have to close and log in to my medical website all over again. Sometimes, even that does not work and I cannot get back to my original website anymore on that day. It happens to my PC laptop, my wife's Macbook and even a brand new Macbook Air that I tried out. For some strange reason, it only happens at home on all 3 computers. I don't get this problem reading my Journals in the Hospital where I work. Interestingly, when I go to the park away from my house and activate the mobile hotspot on my handphone and do my journal reading there, it does not happen.( not yet anyway).
I would like to attach a picture of the fbi website for you but I don't see any paperclip icon on the toolbar.
I would really appreciate any help anyone can provide on this matter.
Thank you

You need to contact the people that you purchased it from and get the administrator password from them. We can't assist with bypassing passwords at this site.

I want to log in under an Administration account and block access to certain programs and the internet to a user. How can I do this? I need port 80 open so we can use Outlook Express 2003. I don't want them to be able to go to MyDocs and in the address bar type in a url and get online. I also don't want to allow them to install anything on the computer either.

Thanks for any help!

Let them in as "Guest" or create a "User" (non Admin) account for them.

I have had my Dell for 4 years now and day one i created my user profile. I never did anything with the Administrator but now I find myself needing to log on as the administrator. It asks for a password, but I never set one, so how can I log on or set the password to my choice since I cannot log on?

A:XP Administration

Is your current profile a admin? If it is you can create a new administrator.

I am running into all the same problems as the other threads...not being able to access some files and not being able to install games and such. The computer is in the house and the only people that use it is myself and the wife. Can I just disable it and be done with all the problems. I see the red flags that say you are vulnerable if you disable it . Is this just over kill...I would just like to keep it simple stupid.

A:Do I really need administration

Try it with this administrator, it has more rights than the normal adminstrator account. You can also disable UAC
