I uninstalled touchpad and now only mouse works but not Smart Gesture

Q: I uninstalled touchpad and now only mouse works but not Smart Gesture

I am very inexperienced with a computer.  I use mine for social websites and news.
I updated to Win 10 last week and had a lot of problems.  First the keyboard wouldn't work so I had to use my phone to go on forums to find out how people were fixing the issue.  I ended up uninstalling whatever keyboard was listed as ELAN under the hardware tab.  That fixed the issue.  Then my mouse was frozen so I followed similar steps on my own, assuming I knew what I was doing. I managed to get the mouse working with the same concept but the touchpad worked in reverse.  Two finger scroll down made the page go up and vice versa.  After a Windows update the issue remained so I decided to take matters into my own hands again.  I used additional mouse options (as I previously had) > properties > driver > it gave me 3 options, one of which was the mouse, one was the touchpad, and I cannot remember the third, I selected touchpad and clicked uninstall.  I figured since that's what I had done with the other issues it would work after the restart.  Well, it doesn't.
I've tried repeating my steps and have clicked all the tabs available under the additional mouse options.  I've scoured many forums for this issue to no avail.  I just want Smart Gestures back.
I have an Asus U57A and as mentioned I am using Windows 10 64-bit.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:Touchpad not working, usb mouse does, touchpad never works even w/o usb mouse

Hello Tristan,

Welcome to the forums.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Sorry I can't be of more help. The manual for the laptop ought to have that info in it somewhere.

I got a Asus laptop what normally had a application called Asus Smart Gesture, when I had a mouse connected the touchpad was disabled, but that application doesn't work anymore, even the function key to disable my touchpad doesn't work.
Drivers are up-to-date so what else can it be?
Thanks in advance,

I have an Asus Zenbook UX305F, running Windows 8.1. When I bought it a couple of months ago Asus Smart Gesture was not working. I tried repairing it, still nothing. I uninstalled it, and now can't even manage to install it! I downloaded the latest ATK version, but nothing.

Any suggestions?! It's really annoying to have a new laptop and already have problems!!

Thank you!

A:Smart gesture not working

If it's a new laptop as you say, then take it back and have them fix it.
Other then that. What happens when you tried reinstalling it?
Go to the Asus Support/Download Drivers page for your model: ASUS ZENBOOK UX305FA | Notebooks | ASUS USA Choose your OS version and under Touchpad, download the latest driver.

OS WET? What does that mean? You didn't list any system specs for your laptop or really explain what it is you want to do? Not that I can understand anyway. Is this an ASUS laptop? You want to upgrade the hard drive? Get an SSD if you want more speed.

Hey all, I will be grateful if you help me with this issue...
I have a problem with the official Asus touchpad gesture sofware on my laptop Asus N56VB running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit, it won't be installed.
Detailed explanation: I can't install the "Asus Smart Gesture" software, it stucks nearly finishing the installation and a cmd window appears saying "press a key to continue", then I press any key and the following error appears: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.", then I press OK and the installer reverts the whole installation. I need to mention that I had Asus Smart Gesture installed before (some months ago) and it was working fine, then one day it stopped working properly and I decided to reinstall it, but it won't install anymore.

Stuff I tried:
-Running the setup as Administrator.
-Cleaning temp files, trash files and other.
-Register and unregister the Windows Installer by typing "msiexec /unregister" and then "msiexec /regserver" in start menu.
-Microsoft Fix it (software by Microsoft that fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled)
-Uninstalling the original mouse driver (but it reinstalls automatically after every reboot)

Well, after I updated Win 7 to Win 10, I "lost" the Smart Gesture program. I downloaded the recent Smart Gesture from ASUS support website that should be working for Win 10. Alas, I reach the end of the installation when I get this message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.".

I already tried some supposed fixes from the internet but without any success. I really hope you can help me, please and thank you!

Lately my smart gesture begon to slowing down.
I had found a newer version of it so i wanted to uninstall mine and install the new one.
Now can't i install the new one.
First I needed to install TPDriver.msi, when i do that i get this:

Source file not found;
c:\Users\myname~1\AppData\Local\Temp\7zOz0zC.tmp\SETUP.CAB. Verify that the file exist and that you can access it.

I have found the map* but I don't have the SETUP.CAB. *(there were more than one, there had almost the same name but the one they say in the error isn't there)
There is only a TPDriver installer, where they say the same.

I don't know what to do.
I can't ask asus because I don't know all the information they ask when you will send a support ticket.

Can someone please help me?
If you want more info please ask, I will do my best for searching it up.

Hello! A while ago, i had installed win10 on my laptop and was satisfied enough with it. It had some issues with sound latency and touchpad stopped working after about a month without reboot, but in general it worked fine for me. Also touchpad had some cool gestures, such as "continuous dragging" - if i'm dragging a window and my finger get close to the border of touchpad, i could put second finger on touchpad and continue dragging. I was using it quite frequent because it is useful with multiple displays. And it was worked good. Until yesterday.
Windows has decided that it's time for update and in the morning when i turn on my laptop it started updating and after that all began falling apart. I couldn't find this gesture anymore, now when i dragging a window, if second finger touches touchpad, it stop dragging and think i'm trying to scroll, in device manager touchpad displayed as HID mouse, and after 6 hours keyboard stopped work. >.< That's why i "love" microsoft update policy.
I've made a clean install today, tried some touchpad drivers and still missing this gesture. In windows settings all touchpad settings turned on.

Does anyone know how to turn it on?
Thank you and sorry for my bad English.

The Satellite Pro S750 is specified as having a gesture control touchpad. Toshiba replaced my Satellite A660 with a Satellite Pro S750, and I was taking it for a test drive...no gesture control. I visited the driver page, and there are no synaptics touchpad driver. Instead, an ALPS Pointer Device Driver is shown. I tried downloading it, but was warned during installation that I was replacing a driver for one that is identical.

Is the description of gesture control touchpad simply a mistake? Am I the only one without it?

You might be right.

But you could visit the Synaptics page in order to download the newest driver:

A new major update for Windows 10 has been released a few days ago, and the update included a new gesture which allow user to switch the desktops with 4 fingers placed on the touchpad and swipe between left or right to switch the desktops.
This new gesture is not working on my touchpad and I am assuming this may relate to the current version of the touchpad driver is not yet supported to this feature because the other gestures like three fingers swipe for moving any opened windows and three fingers tap for calling Cortana are still working fine for me.
I was wondering if there will be any update for the touchpad driver coming soon, or all of these were just my own issue...

Thank you!

Hi,     Earlier right click was not working properly on my lenov y50-70 laptop. Most of the time, I have to press right click button with more . But all feature(circular zoom, virtual scrolling, gesture, swap) of elan smartpad touchpad were working properly previously. After replacement of touchpad by lenovo, even none of the above said feature is availabe in ELAN driver software. Does this mean those feature is not supported by new touchpad?

I have the same problem.  They replaced my touchpad and now none of the gestures work and i have to drag my finger across the touchpad several times to get from one side of the screen to the other, whereas you should be able to do it in one swipe.  Huge QA problems with this device and I'm getting very frustrated they didnt check to make sure that it all worked when they sent it back to me.  Please Lenovo FIX THE TOUCHPAD ISSUES!  WE need gestures and correct movement, changing the sensitivity does not fix this problem, Im assuming you need to update the drivers and correct this issue or the touchpad is bad again.  Afterall, the last release for this driver was August of 2014.  New drivers are overdue Lenovo. PLEASE FIX THIS!

Hi, I would like to ask how to change a function assigned to a gesture (e.g. to a 3-finger flick navigation). After the recent APLS driver update it has changed from "back/forward" to "task switch" and I'd like to change it back (w/o reverting the driver, of course). Also applies to other gestures, like e.g. 2-finger tap would be nice to perform a middle button click for me.

I don't see a way to change this from the (IMO bad) driver advanced settings UI, unless purely experimenting with registry settings. I'm not against a registry manual edit, some details on what and where to change would however be appreciated.

is there a way to disable the bottom right corner charms bar gesture? i can disable the hint no problem with DisableCharmsHint. however moving the mouse up the right side of the screen (starting from the bottom right corner) will still open the charms bar.

DisableTRCorner will both disable the top right charms hint AND the "gesture". Moving the mouse down the right side of the screen will not open the charms bar.

i cant seem to find a way to do the same for the bottom right. i dont understand why microsoft couldnt have added a "DisableBRCorner" registry entry that functions the same as DisableTRCorner.

This is a legit copy of Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. After about 8 hours of uptime or so the mouse gesture in which you move your mouse to the top right to see the charms bar does not work. In addition the start button at the bottom left in which you are able to click to get to the tile screen becomes disabled but the Windows Key still functions to get there. Also after this behavior, full screen apps such as games will launch and then immediately get minimized to the desktop. I know the simple solution is to log out and log back in and that takes care of the situation but it's become quite annoying ever since I installed this OS as a clean installation. I keep scratching my head as to what is wrong.

I've looked around for a solution to my problem and haven't found one, so sorry if this is a repeat post.  I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, running Windows10.  I am still under warranty, so sending it in is an option, but I'm a student and not having my laptop for an extended period of time would be incredibly inconvenient.  I don't have any other issues with my laptop. About 5 months ago, the touchpad on my computer just stopped working.  No response to anything.  I downloaded the latest drivers, installed them and restarted, and still nothing.  I did some more research and tried to follow advice, but ran into what I think is the root of the problem.  When I tried to see if my touchpad was enabled in Settings, only my wireless mouse is listed.  I looked further and found that my touchpad doesn't show up in 'Device Manager' under the 'Mice and Other Pointing Devices' subsection. I'm not particularly techie, but am willing to try anything to regain functionality.  It's an inconvenience to have to either use the touchscreen or carry around my mouse all the time.  Any pointers down the right road towards fixing this (and not having to have it serviced) would be grealy appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

I have a HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC (LW897AV), running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1, originally purchased in June 2012. I generally use this notebook at my home office, and have a wireless mouse at my desk for day-to-day activities.  But when not at my desk, I like to use the touchpad rather than bring the mouse with me.  About a week ago I went to do just that, but found the touchpad unresponsive.  I clicked on the synaptics (?...I think this is what it was, see below comments) icon in the bottom right tray to bring up its control panel.  It showed the touchpad as enabled, and I tried to toggle back and forth but no change occurred.  I tried various other minor things with no response either, then had to go so stopped messing around. Today I came back to try and fix this again.  When I went to find the synaptics (?) button to try that route again, it was no where to be found.  I can't find it under any menus/headings, or via a search.  So either I am remembering the name completely wrong, or it is gone.  Needless to say the touchpad still is not responding.   I did try to do a "restore", and chose a point in late December since I am 100% sure it was functional then.  The other restore point was in late January, and I can't say for certain exactly when this started since I default to the mouse when at my desk....but I think it only started 1-2 weeks ago.  This did not solve the issue either... Hi guys,

New here, so I hope I'm not out of line asking for help, and that I'm asking correctly. I've exhausted my own ideas on this but the problem is driving me IN.SANE.

When using an external (USB) mouse with my ASUS Win7 laptop, the mouse randomly lifts up and re-clicks while clicking or while dragging (despite the button remaining consistently depressed), resulting in selection of the wrong objects, inadvertent double-clicks, and incorrect dragging. From what I can tell, this affects only the left click and not the right.

Laptop touchpad - no problem. Everything works fine with the built-in touchpad.
Another mouse - same problem. These are wired mice, so it's not a battery or connection issue.
Another USB port - same problem in all four. There's no visible issue with the motion of the mouse/cursor, so it seems to be communicating OK via USB.
Safe Mode - no problem, from what I can tell. The wired USB mouse seems to click and drag as normal in Safe Mode.
Mouse Settings - no effect. Adjusting the click/double-click/drag settings doesn't seem to change anything.
System Resources - no effect. Clicking/dragging seems to show the same results in the RAM/CPU monitors whether I'm having the problem (with the mouse) or performing the same actions without the problem (with the trackpad).

What haven't I ruled out? What else could be causing the issue?

The problem came on suddenly after about a year, but I... Read more

Possible problem:
1. Mouse itself is bad. Either the button itself or internally

Have a look at this article from the Symantec Knowledgebase;http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...56ee60055ac57&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

As you expand the various headings, you may see a mention of other removal tools called Rnav and Rnis that it may be necessary, or desirable, to run. Read this very carefully before you do anything because I think the sequence in which these tools are used is important (always assuming that SymClean alone doesn't do the trick!).

Against my better judgement, I went to update the Firefox Flash plugin. After it installed, the old player and the new player were listed as plugins. Tried the "never activate", etc with no success. Decided to totally uninstall Flash and start over. Deleted all Macromedia and flash folders in both Administrator and User accounts. Went through the registry and deleted everything there also.
Went to YouTube and tried to play a video. Got a message saying "would you like to play this content" or similar words. Well, the content played just fine. Did Airpano and all of its content also played.
How is the content playing if Flash is not installed ? Is the totally unsecure Flash actually needed ?

A:Uninstalled Adobe Flash Player - YouTube Still Works Fine

to get the best quality on an image it is best to have Flash Player installed and if you play games or watch videos on the internet it requires you to have Flash Player installed

Troubleshooting a fairly new HP laptop. Had been infected with a virus. Cleaned it all up but was experiencing erratic mouse behavior. The customer claimed the behavior started when he got hit with infection. While the pointer itself moves fine the left and right mouse buttons intermittently act like they are being held down causing the pointer to drag and highlight everything in site. At other times the buttons do nothing at all. At other times the left mouse button triggers a rightclick menu. And at other moments all mouse control is fine. This occurs equally on the touchpad or when using an external USB mouse. I tried disabling the touchpad completely but the problem still occurs when using the external mouse. I tried updating the sypatics touchpad driver but that made no difference either. I finally resorted to wiping and completely reinstalling windows but the problem still persists. For the hell of it I then updated the BIOS firmware but that made no difference either. All keyboard function work fine so I have been having to resort to using the arrow keys and alt tab and such to navigate around. I ran a Passmark Burn in Test and everything passed.
A couple of additional points. I ran the Hirens Boot CD which is similar to the Ultimate Boot CD. I then booted into the Mini Windows XP and the same erratic mouse behavior occured so this is clearly not an operating system issue. Also when I wiped and reloaded Windows I used the HP Recovery partition and ran thei... Read more

You could pull your hard drive out of your machine and put it in an enclosure and save your data on another machine until you reinstall Windows on your machine, then transfer the data back to your machine.

Hi,It appears I somehow deactivated my touchpad or something along those lines as my mouse pointer/cursor has completely disappeared? It was working fine yesterday, and I think the only thing that might have triggered this is that I accidentally pressed some keys (unsure of which ones, so I don't even know how to reverse it). I've tried restarting, as well as looked through some of the mouse/touchpad settings to no avail. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it (I'm currently relying on my fingers and the touchscreen which isn't as convenient)

Dell 2-in-1 3147:
The "DELL Pointing Devices" dialog shows a "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" checkbox. If this checkbox is clear, the touchpad works properly. When this checkbox is marked, the touchpad does not work at all.
I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.
I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).
Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.
Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.
