Wifi adapter drops out every 10 seconds

Q: Wifi adapter drops out every 10 seconds

Hi,

I have a rather annoying issue and i'm stuck trying to find a solution. My D-link Ac1900 wifi adapter keeps losing connection to my router every 10 seconds, I have tried many solutions to try and fix this from,
unplugging and restarting my pcrolling back the driving and updating themexchanged the device for a new replacementupdating the motherboard biosun checking the power setting to stop the device from being turned

but still nothing fixes the issue, take note that this only occurs on my pc which is brand new, works fine on my laptop doesn't drop out every 10 seconds.

Would anyone have any idea or have the same issue with a solution to the problem.

Here is the ping with the issue,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I've been having on and off issues with my computer for a while that became really bad after I set up my XBOX 360 as an Extender a couple of weeks ago (I have since undone that), Windows Media Player started to regularly crash and I'd noticed that every now and again my network adapter would just drop the connection, only to instantly reconnect. Ran MBAM a few times over and used eset's online scanner. Spybot S&D and MSE as well.

Found a few win32/opencandy, a couple of listings for boaxxe.g trojan and BELIEVE I've cleaned it out. I should mention my MBAM is now the pro edition in an attempt to help with this.

So I've cleaned out several infected files over the past few days and I just can't seem to fix this last bit, and it's really starting to interfere in regular life.

Defogger has already been run.

I am currently using a Thinkpad L440. For about a year and a half now, I have been having random Wifi drops on my laptop. The wifi will suddenly stop working and my browser will prompt me to run Windows Diagnostics. Windows Diagnostics will detect the problem and reset my wifi adapter which fixes the problem. Then the same problem occurs after some time. I tried updating all the drivers, as well as the BIOS. I also tried removing the wifi apapter driver through Device Manager and reinstalling but this did not solve the isse. In fact, the wifi seems slower after doing this. As a note, whenever I run a scan using LSC, under WIreless > Local Connection Test, I get a warning sign. This has been consistent for about as long as the problem has been occuring.  Model: L440BIOS: J4ET91WW(1.91)Wifi Adapter: 2x2 11bgn Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter Appreciate any advice.

I recently upgraded the OS on my old Pavillion dv6700 notebook from Vista to Windows 10. The wireless network adapter often drops out when the device is not in use - it may work okay for days, or  sometimes only minutes. Sometimes running the troubleshoot routine resets the adapter and sometimes the adapter has to be disabled and then re-enabled. (Turning the laptop off and on again also works.) I understand that this is an old device, but everything else works fine and even though this problem is relatively easy to rectify, it is annoying. Is there a simple solution to this issue.

Hi: See if unchecking the 'allow windows to turn off this device to save power' box on the power options tab for the wireless card works for you. What model wireless card does your notebook have? There may be other tweaks you can do on the Advanced tab.

OS: Windows 7
Hardware: Sony VAIO
Powered by: AC
History: The computer is about 2 years old and the symptoms described below started either abruptly or gradually some 2-3 months ago.

Symptoms: The network access icon in the right of my task bar will show 4-5 bars of signal strength. I'll leave the computer for several hours and when I come back, it shows 0 bars with a red x over it. I click it, select troubleshoot and the Windows Network Diagnostics window pops up and says "Problems found"; A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken" - Detected; "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" - Fixed, upon which the icon goes back to 4 or 5 bars and I resume my network connectivity. This takes all of one minute or less.

However, if I need to do a lengthy download, this unexpected action will stop the download in the middle of the night.

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS:
1) I tried a side-by-side comparison with another laptop and the Sony VAIO lost the network connection in the manner described above while the other computer didn't.
2) I went to Manage Wireless Networks, removed all networks (including my home network) and then rebuilt the wireless networks by re-entering my home network. I was then able to access my network. However, the wireless network adapter still shut off in the middle of the night.
3) I went to Power Settings/Change advanced power settings/Advanced settings/Wireless Adapter Settings/Power Saving Mode and obse... Read more

This might help - the following commands restore Windows IP and Winsock to known good values

Open an Elevated Command Prompt

   Tip
Standard keyboard shortcuts for Copy (Ctrl-C) and Paste (Ctrl-V) shortcuts do not work in Command Prompt.

Enabling the Quick Edit Mode in Command Prompt makes Copy and Paste operations easier.
See step 4 in Command Prompt - Copy to Clipboard to enable it.

Copy in Command Prompt: hightlight the text you want to copy, then press ENTER.
Paste in Command Prompt: right click with your mouse.

In the elevated command Prompt window type the following commands
Alternatively, you can copy the commands, one line at a time and paste it in the Command Prompt Window

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns

Hey sorry if I mess something up I'm new.

anyway for most of the day my internet has this pattern of dropping out for half a second or longer every few seconds. This happens on all my devices, and the router is only three months old. I've phoned my provider and they seem to think that I'm overloading my internet but that can't be the case as the disconnections are independent to the times that I'm using it. Every once in a while (more rarely) it drops out completely maybe for a minute or two to fifteen or so minutes which I could understand as overloading it, (though I still don't think it is) but there's no way to explain these smaller drops in my internet?..

I've attached a picture of me pinging google which shows the random delays in response. My plan's download speed should be 10mbps.

Thank you very much for the help!

My internet will just drop out briefly so that whatever I am doing on the internet will stop working, for example streaming a video, it will play fine, until two minutes in it stops, I then have to reload the page to continue playing. This happens over and over very regularly until I decide to turn off my computer. The only exception is Skype; I can be in a call with someone whilst playing a video, the video will stop but I am still chatting with the person on Skype.

Although my internet speed is not the greatest it should not just drop out every 2minute interval. It is a home internet so there are various things using it. It is only a recent problem and would love to fix it

If anyone can help it would be great, thank you for your time.

So, most of the time my ping (to my ISPs server) is ~15ms, when I upload/download it changes etc., but, I've noticed that when I use the internet I get disconnection spikes (highly noticable when playing League of Legends or doing anything that needs a constant connection). These disconnection spikes happen more frequently when there's an active connection (something's being downloaded/uploaded, eg. a game running).

I have figured out it isn't any of the routers causing the issue with tracert and pinging. (I pinged the first router, the 2nd and then only the IP to my ISP started having issues.)

This didn't always happen, but it does happen on WinXP and Win8 and my Android tablet.

Any tips? (And I know I should contact my ISP, but I like knowing how to deal with stuff myself.)

Thanks. :]

I have a friends laptop who was having trouble connecting to the internet. She has consistently excellent wireless connection, but after just a minute or less the internet stops working. The excellent signal strength never goes away and it says connected, but you can't do anything that requires an internet access. After lots of playing with the problem I even tried to do a fresh install of her Windows XP, but I got an I/O error and even after changing BIOS to boot from CD/DVD I couldn't get the Windows install to go.

I also took the laptop home to my network that works perfectly and have multiple other computers running on it. With the laptop it does the same thing it did on her network.

Any suggestions?

A:Wireless says connected but drops after seconds of use.

Service Pack 3? Latest wireless driver (from the laptop manufacturer's site if an integrated adapter)?

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the machine?

How does it work with an ethernet connection?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi

I am getting mad... any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a laptop acer 4810TZ with an intel 1000 BGN wireless adaptor. Every now & then, specially when I am using VNCViewer to connect to a remote host, the connection hangs, and the session is interrupted. Immediately after, it can be restarteD.

When I connect via wire ethernet, or via a USB wireless stick (RT73), no issues. The remote host is connected to my lan (via the ISP router).

I've tried quite some tweaks (no dhcp, no ipv6, google dns, security type from wpa tkip to aes, etc...), no joy. I've even installed in dual boot ubuntu, no issues with the adater then.

Acer does not supply any newer drivers....

A ping -t shows that once in a while, the connection goes bad, then restarts

Any clues as how to diagnose this ?

Rgds,

J.

A:Wireless connections drops a few seconds every now & then

Some possible causes are large distances between the laptop and the router, multiple walls and other obstacles between the laptop and the router, and other devices(cordless phone, microwave oven, etc.) using the same frequency(2.4 GHz) as the router.
The 1st 2 may be solved by installing an external antenna on the router(assuming it will accept an antenna).
The 3rd may be solved by switching the router to a 5 GHz frequency(assuming it has this capability).

Recently, I switched ISPs from Fios to Comcast and I've been having more consistent issues with my internet on a wired connection. On Fios, the internet was completely stable, but with Comcast the internet randomly drops for a few seconds at a time. It can be fine for hours, then go out 5 times in the next 10 minutes. Just to be clear, when I say the internet drops, all of the lights on the router remain lit indicating the connection is fine, but my computer loses the connection.

With that being said, I'm not sure if it's directly related to switching ISPs. A comcast tech has said that signal levels are fine and the wiring shouldn't be an issue either.

Also, I haven't been able to confirm this, but the issue might be isolated to the computer that is on a wired connection. I can't seem to recall having any issues on devices connected via Wifi. Basically, the connection might be perfectly fine, but something may have happened on my computer recently that has caused these issues. However, I've ran scans to check for viruses, but they have all came back clean.

Are there any troubleshooting steps I can take to narrow down the specific cause of this issue.

If you mean that the modem is dropping the connection to your ISP, and your ISP supplied the modem, then call their tech support--the problem is all their's unless you have poor phone wiring. Otherwise, what do you mean?

New laptop, connected to my home network which is very stable and has no history of connection issues. After about 10 seconds the laptop drops the connection. Sometimes it'll come back for a while sometimes not, haven't observed any pattern in this yet

All I've done since starting the computer for the first time is installed all the junk that comes with it (Nero stuff mostly) and installed all windows updates (there were over 60 of them) and AVG Free edition. Before doing all that the connection was still not right but it did hold for a lot longer than 10 seconds. It held for over an hour downloading programs like Itunes, AVG and Firefox

Going to control panel > network sharing centre when the connection is down I see the yellow exclamation mark between my computer and my network. Troubleshooting this resets the network adapter, gives me the error 'The default gateway is not available' and says that it is fixed. The connection then works again for about 10 seconds and drops once more.

From setting up the network I think the default gateway is the router IP address?

The internet on the other computers on the network (one desktop one laptop) is fine and uninterrupted

I can't get the connection to hold for long enough to download SysInfo but this is the laptop:

Hi all,

Seems we had a bit of a thunderstorm here last night while I was gone and now my monitor is acting freaky. Here's the scenario:

I came home this morning, everything was off. I powered up the system, everything functions normally. All the noises are their happy selves, the monitor lights up, begins displaying the normal series of graphics/text and whatnot..

After about 30 seconds or so, however, the Monitor drops back into "standby" mode.. like it's not getting a video signal.. (screen goes black, power LED switches from green to amber) The computer, however, is still running, making all its happy whirring noises, etc.

I press the power button on the monitor. The monitor powers down. I press the power button again, and the monitor comes back to life, with full display, no distortion, no problems.... for about 4 seconds, then drops back to "standby".

repeated pressings of the power button produce the exact same result. If it let it sit a while turned off it will last 30 seconds or so of full display before dropping to standby.. if I immediately cycle the power after it shuts off, the display will only last for 3-4 seconds.

This *appears* to be a monitor issue... the rest of the tower acts like everything is happy. (I'm actually currently downloading a bunch of stuff on that machine with the quirky monitor hooked up to it right now) Everything was working fine yesterday when I left.

Hi. I have TWO Dell Inspiron 15 laptops that are set up just about the same regarding hardware and software. I also have a HP G7 laptop. I have a Belkin AC1200FE router that has a USB port to plug in a printer so I can print from any computer on my network. All you need to make it all work, seamlessly, is an application called USB Control Center distributed by Belkin, as well as printer drivers installed on each device you want to print from. The program will make a connection to the printer so the computer can print documents. Then, the connection is dropped after x seconds of inactivity to allow for other computers to make a connection for printing. Sounds nice, right?

Let's give the devices on my network names, hopefully it all makes sense.
My Inspiron - Alpha
My G7 - Bravo
Wife's Inspiron - Charlie
Router - Router
Printer - Printer
USB Control Center - the program

So, I installed the program on Bravo, installed the printer drivers on Bravo, and was able to print a test page quickly.

I already had the program installed on Alpha, as well as the drivers, and have never had issues printing from Alpha.

Then, I installed the program on Charlie, and immediately I noticed an issue. The program is able to detect when printer drivers are installed, however the program refuses to detect my successful installation of the drivers. Keep in mind that Alpha and Charlie are the same machines both hardware and software. So, instead of simply installing the drivers, I went into the o... Read more

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to look at this post. Anyway, I'll get right to the chase, just recently I have purchased the Motorola SB5120 modem and the Linksys WRT546 router, the reason being is because my old modem was extremely out-dated and we needed an easier way to connect my two other computers. All has been working fine until this past week or so, and it seems that my modem just likes to go into a standby state, by itself, from 11 a.m. until 8-9 p.m. central. This will occur regularly about every 5 minutes to an hour for the entire day, the "standby" mode will last for only about 10 seconds, usually just long enough to kick me off from whatever I may be doing at the time. The modem says its working fine though, and even the Cox guy said it was running at optimal performance. At first I believed it to be just some minor difficulties with the network I setup for my family, but that wasn't the case. I've tried resetting everything and just starting from scratch but nothing works. We called the Cox Support team, again, and again, I was told to reset everything. If anyone has any solutions, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi,

My computer has been appearing to freeze for 1 to 2 seconds. Investigation reveals:-
Disk queue length for Seagate drive (platter) goes to 1 or 2 at start of event, and stays there for duration
Disk I/O for Seagate drive ceases completely during event
CPU enters C1 state
CPU core voltage drops to 0.8V (part of being in C1 state)
VCC stable
CPU temperature stable and well within limits
CPU Interrupt time drops to zero
Graphics card goes into idle (even if it happens in the middle of a graphics intensive game)

Tests so far:-
chkdsk - all ok
Intel processor diagnostic - all ok
Seagate diagnostic tools - all ok except if the event occurs during the test, then the program itself crashes and doesn't give a result
Hardware monitoring - all ok
Ran perfmon through a couple of the events, reported OK

I am having trouble separating cause and effect. It is as if the system, no matter how busy it is, just decides to have a sleep for a couple of seconds. I initially suspected hard disk, but that could just be a symptom.

All has been fine for 2 years up until a month or so ago, system is 2 years old.

Any thoughts?

A:Computer drops into idle (C1) state for 1 to 2 seconds, then recovers

Fixed. Took a punt, cloned and replaced the Seagate hard drive - all is now as good as new. Not enough wrong with it to fail chkdsk obviously, but enough to create instability.

Cheers

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1415 S105 with XP Pro. My dialup modem drops the connection and sometimes won't connect at all when I use the AC adapter. All other laptop functions are fine. Any ideas?

A:Dialup drops connection when AC adapter used

Run Everest with just the battery connected - call up Computer, Sensor and watch the voltages - while watching, plug in the adapter.

If there is no drastic change, then in all liklihood the modem got a small zap that is letting it fail. An external USB modem would work I think.

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

Hello!

I registered to forums to get help to solve wireless adapter issue I am having.

I have been looking for help in Lenovo forums and AV provider: problem is still on.

Background

I changed AV software from Symantec to F-Secure. I uninstalled Symantec software and installed F-Secure software. Laptop is Lenovo T520.

What happened

First I recognized that ping commands caused Windows to crash. Then I uninstalled some VPN softwares and ping started to work. Operation did something to wireless and LAN connections, they did not work anymore.

LAN started to work by removing LAN drivers from device manager and reboot. After reboot Windows reinstalled LAN drivers and LAN was ok.

Wireless is a pain in there. I have tried almost everything. All Lenovo provided network softwares and power management tools are uninstalled and reinstalled together with wireless drivers. Wireless driver is not recognized by Windows.

None of automatic repairs or wifi uninstallation operations have corrected problem.

I collected some logs which might help, but now I do not know how to proceed. Windows reinstallation is something which I do not want to do.

Hi Ron, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Try this to start

Control Panel > Administration Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services.

Scroll down this list to find 'WLAN Auto Config'

Double click on 'WLAN Auto Config' On the general tab, select from the start up type drop down menu, select 'Automatic'. Under Service Status click on 'Start'. Then 'Apply' these settings and exit from all open control panel windows.

This should then allow Windows to set the required bindings.

This is a very weird problem. Starting from three days ago my laptop's wifi capabilities dropped suddenly. I hadn't dropped it or installed anything that could have caused it. I could get no WiFi unless I was in the same room as the router. Meanwhile my phone could get WiFi same as before all around the house.

I tried a system restore, updating everything and things like that. Today I noticed that the WiFi icon would show two bars just as the lid is opened but quickly changes to no signal. I figured out that if I angle the lid below 45 degrees and just before the display turns off, I get great signal strength just as I used to!

Now it is very inconvenient to use the laptop like that which is why I am typing this from my phone. Can you guys help me please I really needed to fill out lots of forms from that machine. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Got a bit of a weird issue here. I've owned my WAG54GX2 for about... 2 years maybe, and I've got no complaints all round. My usage hasnt changed nor any settings within this period.

However... Over the last week, for some reason the WiFi Connection gets destroyed. I've only seen it once at the point where the Wifi Light goes out (something i've never seen before) - but generally the 2 WiFi conencted PC's fail to keep the connection, they drop out, and fail to get an IP, and when they do manage to get 'on' the connection is terrible. In the mean time, I run wired on 2 boxes that have no noticeable issues at all. Its like the WiFi just gets totally jammed up.

I've tried my hardest to establish what has changed, what is new, whats different at night, and theres just nothing.

Turning off the router and back on seems to have no effect either.

I've attached some logs, I dont know what 99% of it means. But thought maybe someone here could shed some info by translating them.

the Anisdktool seems to be started a lot? normal?

and wns msg tcvd: no idea what thats all about?

ring full looks a bit "** alerting***" but no idea what this is telling me either.

This is super frustrating any insight would be great.

I am going around & around with this. I purchased this adapter in Jan '10 and it has never really worked right. I have gone through a bunch of routines on TSG and think it is solved but then it fails again. I have reinstalled it a number of times, and updated the drivers to the most recent version. Still no luck. I contacted Verizon to see if something with their router was affecting it - they changed a couple of router settings (channel change and 802.11G solely). That seemed to work for one day and now back to not working at all. Verizon said perhaps I need a signal booster for it. I live in a 750 sq. ft. home which it should work in, I think. It is also on the second floor - router on first. I have dealt with NG tech support many times but to no avail. Reinstall software & drivers was their solution. Which I did. So I have done ipconfig/all for you to see - it follows. Would appreciate any thoughts.

Hey im having some trouble with my wireless adapter. I know that it is not my routers problem since i have my xbox set up into it and i never get any kind of lag on it same if i hook a pc up to it. Problem is my wireless adapter that is new will start out in the 40-50s mbps. But after a few mins of useing my computer it will make a sudden drop down anywhere from 1-18 mbps. I am the only person useing internet in my household and i have a good internet plan with verizon. Usealy the only way to fix this is to pull out my wireless adapter for a few mins than put it back in. If not i have to just do something else for a few hours and it will go back up again. I am getting a decent signal strength so i really do not understand the problem. Also when my mbps drops down very low it will even go so far as not letting me browse the internet at all. It will say i am connected to local and internet like normal yet i wont beable to connect to anything and i will have to restart my connection again.

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

The little monitor icon comes alive and has an excellent connection strength, and I actually get online but....

*There is no way of browsing the Internet I click on internet explorer and get all types of msn errors acstart16.exe etc...
and there are no other icons Bt or otherwise to allow me to view the Web?

im working on the issues but.. when I re_boot the PC the connection is lost between the USB adapter/ hub/ internet and they do not handshake, I re_install the Hub/router and all is fine again until*
It seems that the adapter needs to be re_found by the pc and or the hub needs to be found by the pc/ adapter?

Confused.

Additional info, my friend only has W XP Home edition without any reccomended service packs!

Could it be just the fact of not having the correct Sp's?

So yeah, silly me Installed windows 10 anniversary update (i could have chose not to) and now i keep getting disconnecting from my wifi every 2-10 mins. It was working perfectly before it. And I tried everything, believe me. Rolling back to previous build (this had to work :/), turning off power saving mode on my network adapter, reinstalling it, downloading new drivers from Asus website, I've also tried winsock reset, dns flush, ip config release etc. Also turning off my firewall, disabling realtek ethernet adapter, antivirus haven't helped me at all. And yeah I can access my internet with ethernet cable and other devices are working without problems. I also tried an external wifi adapter and had the same problem.
Funny thing is I can still access ipv6 websites after it gets disconnected, it has something to do with DNS. (Yes I also tried putting Google DNS servers). The only thing that I haven't tried is installing wifi drivers that I have on my asus disk that came with loptop (will do it later today)
If you're interested here's my network adapter: mediatek mt7630e

When i type using keyboard for whatever reason the internet wifi drops. I am using a TP link unit. It is more apparent when i am typing emails in windows live mail.

Is this a problem that anyone has experienced. I have switched from wireless keyboard to wired. What actually happens is even offline the keyboard itself drops out, i start receiving a note/tone each time i press the keyboard buttons when it has dropped out. When online if the keyboard drops out the wireless drops with it.

I have to kick in the keyboard again by using the mouse to click the screen. The mouse also drops out when scrolling using the
wheel. again i have to click the screen to reinstate

It has dropped six times typing this note.

thanks

Hey All, new to the forum, thanks for the replies in advance, and I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it in the correct terms.

My issue seems to be with my computer. Often, when I am connected to my WiFi router, my internet service, and subsequent connection to the network, drops inexplicably. My computer will claim it is no longer connected. When I attempt to reconnect, the computer claims it cannot. The troubleshooter also cannot find an issue. All the while, other devices and computers on the network will be perfectly connected without interruption. The only way to fix this is to actually go to the router, reset it, and wait. This can happen within 5 minute of being reset, 20 minute, an hour, or sometimes, days go by without it being an issue. No rhyme. No reason. (That I can find)

Other times, my network, will just...slow down. I'll see the connection drop from full signal to 4 bars. If I catch it then, I can run the troubleshooter and everything will be restored (although the message the computer returns is that there was no problem found). Either this, or if I turn off my wifi, then turn it back on, reconnect to my network, boom, speed restored!

This is driving me insane. I can't seem to fix it. Any help is appreciated, as I am quite tired of having to march across the room 3-6 times every day to reset this. Thanks!

Okay. Who is your ISP. There has been known issues for that model. That is why most go with their own equipment for Internet. Too many issues with the all-in-one gateways.

You could just turn off the onboard wifi, and use a Wireless Access Point instead. I use the Engenius ECB-350 for my network. Never have had any issues with it. I can pick it up to 75' from my house.

I have an integrated Gigabit Ethernet adapter - a Realtek 8168, I think. Sometime (but not always) when Windows wakens from sleep the adapter runs at 100Mb instead of 1Gb. Disabling and re-enabling the adapter puts it back to 1Gb. A reboot also fixes it (of course).

Is this typical behavior, or do I have something set wrong?

The Windows & Device Manager identifies the device as "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" and says the current driver - version 7.67.1226.2012 - is up to date.

I've have my PC's Ethernet adapter connected to an Ethernet switch for about a year. The switch indicates port speed by different colored LEDs. I don't recall seeing the 100Mb light until a week or 2 ago

A:After Windows wakes, my GbE network adapter drops to 100Mb

Don't know if you'll see it, but in Device Manager right-click on your Realtek network adapter and select Properties.

Then select the Power Management tab, and un-check the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", if you have that option.

Now see if you lose your gigabit connection when coming out of sleep.

And, Windows Update will many times give you a different version that what you find at the OEM's web site. Did you also install their "software" that goes with it? Hello forum people,

I have the following problem on my Toshiba Satellite R850 running Win7 64bit: I decided to change the wireless adapter so I can connect to the 5GHz wifi network my router provides which wasnt possible on the Atheros wireless adapter it came with. I changed it to a Intel Wireless AC 3160- the physical change went quick and without problems and while the adapter is basically working now the problem I'm facing now is that the F8-hotkey function to de-/activate the Wifi and Bluetooth is no longer working. When I press the hotkey button all the different hotkey combinations show up on the upper part of the screen, but now there's only F1-F7 and F9, F8 just went missing. Does anyone have any idea how to get it back?

Thanks in advance and take care

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)
