Preferred Solution: Computer making alot of noise recently

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

At least I'm pretty sure its my fan. I just reformatted and put windows 98 2ed back on if that helps. I have no clue and would look for answers in the search but I don't want to stay on the computer for very long and ruin something.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi!

I currently have a Corsair Hydro Series H55 with the stock fan, and it is quite loud even in idle.

So I was wondering if replacing the stock fan(which is a 3pin) with a 4 pin fan would remove the noise issue?

Hello & Welcome to TGF.

Which W7; 32 or 64 bit?

Which brand, model & model # of your computer?

For how long have you owned the computer?

Was W7 installed before you obtained possession of the PC? If not, when was W7 installed?
What kind of installation / upgrade? If upgrade, from what?

Buzzing sound could be a bad fan, designed to cool your lappy's CPU.

Increased heat would explain the random crashing.

With the lappy OFF, close the lid. Turn the lappy over. Look for a grill or vent. Shine light into said area. Do you see a fan? Any dust balls or paper?

The more information you provide, the more quickly will we be able to solve your problem.

My computer recently started making the same sounds as the video below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RyB3H-sO7o

I can not tell if it is the fan or the hard drive. Anyone have any advice or experience?

A:My computer recently started making this crackling sound!

With the computer off, can you hear the noise when you shake it ?
If it was the hard drive I am sure that your machine would have packed up by now. and if it was the fan then it too would fail eventually
My money is the fan as that is the only one that is fully exposed to the atmosphere. Making it plausible to assume some debris got into your computer.

If its in warranty then get the manufacturers to fix it. If not you might like to consider taking it apart yourself, power off of course.

Hi there. My computer has been lagging very hard recently and checking the Task Manager I have noticed that I am using at a minimum roughly 3GB of memory and my CPU usage is fluctuating between 25% and 100%. Any thought about why this is happening? Not to mention that multiple games which I have installed that have been running perfectly fine for months prior are now failing to open. Thanks!

Just recently I have began to notice that on start up my computer is using 3GB out of the available 8 without starting up any programs. The CPU usage is constantly fluctuating from 25% up to 100% and nothing on the performance monitor is out of the norm nor using too much memory. Any thoughts on what could be causing this and is there anything else I need to post here to give more information on the topic.
Thanks!

I have a computer running xp, this computer was so quiet you could not even hear it running. I decided to do a factory install again after having a lot of things on and decided to start over.
Now the computer is making so many grinding noises it is never quiet when it is running and it is painfully slow.
I have done a defrag and checked all the things I can think of to do but it still is the same. Do you think maybe something went wrong when I did the restore. That is not the first time I have done a restore as the computer is 4 years old but always run very nice and quiet. Does anyone have any ideas or had the same problem. Oh I have also checked for viruses and spyware and that does not seem to be the problem.

Ok here it goes, I think something is going out in my computer. I think that it is either the hard drive or power supply. For about the last week every once in awhile the computer will make a noise like its not getting any power then power again. The best way to describe what is happening is to think of a big main frame computer and when you turn it on you can hear the energy being sucked out of the wires (know what I mean?). So yesterday I turned it off because it usually runs 24/7 and didn't want anything to happen, well tonight I turn it back on and it says that something is corrupt with the registery. Windows 98 was able to fix itself. Yeah i was amazed too. So for now my computer is working but should I back up my hard drive and buy a new one or do you think I should worry about that power supply? Oh and the specs of my computer is "400mhz amd, 128megs ram, 8gig ide drive"

Thanks!

A:Computer Is Making Noise!

Hi

It sounds like a noisy fan to me the best way to check is when it is making the noise find something you can put in the power supply fan to stop it and see if the noise stops, if so change the power supply also take the case off and when it's making the noise look at the cpu fan and see if that is spinning very fast or stuttering

The sound would only last a few minutes then stop. Earlier today it started making this noise and it's been going on all day. I shut the computer off and gave it a few hours rest earlier, but it started right back up after turning it on. It also seems to be running slower than normal lately (pages seem to freeze up for a few seconds especially when I'm browsing more than one internet page). I'm running AVG and Zone Alarm. Sorry if this seems vague but I'm not the most computer literate person.

Hi !

Recently my computer started making noise, Not at all time, but most of the time when opening applications. It's at random. The sound may be compared to a old style alarm clock, then it hang up and stop. Is there any tests I can make to know the source of the sound ?

Thanks, and don't hesitate if you have questions.

Since last night my computer has been making this really weird sound. Kind of like a revving sound. I'm not sure what it is. I have an eMachines computer and this has never happened to me before. Anyone had this experience before and may know whats up with it?

On a side note: I saw the stickied topic about eMachines PSU's, and yes I think I need a new one. My computer crashes (often), and some mild things, and some people and forums have told me to get a new PSU, so anyone know a good PSU brand to get? I'll probably buy one from TrigerDirect or NewEgg, just need to know a good brand.

A:Computer making odd noise

The PCs at the school do the revving thing but then stop 10 seconds later.

On the side note a good company PSU would be OCZ, Antec, Thermaltake, and Enermax. Those should do good. Make sure you get them from newegg.com. They are the best site to buy things from.

this just started happening and was never a problem in the past. i did system restore and the computer constantly started making loading noises even when no programs are runnig. its as if the hard drives are at work or something. so i went to system restore and turned it off to see if that was the problem. but it did nothing. the computer runs fine. loading is not a problem, only on games does it seem to show. i have windows xp and i havnt done anything that i know of other than system restore to cause this.

A:Computer Making Loading Noise

By turning System Restore off you have deleted all the restore points so now you cannot reverse what you did.

Why did you do a System Restore in the first place? What problem were you trying to correct?

I am new on here and still figuring out how to navigate the forums, so I apologize if I'm posting a question that has already been asked (also english is not my first language so bare with me haha). I can't find any article/forum that explains my problem so I am posting here hoping to finally finding out what is causing this sound and how to fix it.

The sound happens almost always when I access my second HDD in windows explorer. Sometimes it happens when my PC is working harder than usual (HD streaming for example) and sometimes (not so often) seemingly random or when I am not even using my PC. It is hard to explain but it is a quick high pitched spinning sound followed by what I can only explain as a clicking sound. It is very quick only about 2 seconds I would say. Previously while playing The Sims 4 the same sound happened right before the game always froze/crashed.

I only know a few things here and there about hardware components, just the basics... I have read somewhere about hard drives "spinning down". Does this mean the drive temporarily shuts down and starts back up when you access a file from it? Or what does it mean? Could this be what is the problem? Or is it something else? I don't want to take my PC in if it is a problem I can fix myself, I am pretty good at following instructions to troubleshoot. I have already run tests on both of my hard drives with a program that checks the health of your hard drive and both my disks are still in e... Read more

Hi my computer is making a wining noise not all the time, when i first start the computer and log on its fine after a while it starts. When my son plays a game it makes a noise it sounds like the fan going really fast. How can i tell if it is the fan or something else?,other than that the computer working Ok .The computer only 2 years old any tips thank you

A:Computer making wining noise?

Okay, the an will make loud noise when a game is being played because it uses your graphics card *more*. If I am correct the sounds you hear are a code telling you what the problem is, the only problem is I dont know how to identify them.

So the sound of the fan is not a problem.

EDIT: Is the whining noise your talking about like a fan spinning, because that does happen if you know what I mean, then it slows down.

Ever since i opened up my case and took out my hard drive and slaved it on another computer to transfer the files then reformat it and reinstall it in my computer. I've been hearing this wierd noise in my computer. At first it was just a sort of loud hum i thought maybe i bumped the fan a little so i tilted the case and the sound subsided but as soon as I stand it back up it comes back.. Just earlier today it started to sound like a fly stuck in a windowpane buzzing around.
Now its making this terrible sound its like "ugnh- - - ugnhh - - - Ugnhh" I'm pretty sure its the fan on the processor. When I was reformatting I decided to spray air duster around and i accidentally sprayed the can upside down on the heat sink and some of the liquid came out. That stuff evaporates pretty fast though so I didn't think anything bad would happen, and nothing did. I don't know if this is related or what?

My theory is that the cold *** liquid made the heat sink brittle and the fan is pulling it with the airflow sorta like a kazoo. But i not even sure if its the fan. My computer is working properly and everything. This sound is getting very annoying though.. please help me. Thanks

A:[H] Computer making annoying noise.

Think you should relubricate the CPU fan or purchase another OEM heatsink with FAN combo.

Hi all,

I just recently built a new PC (back in December) and today it made a weird loud grinding/spinning noise. I immediately powered it down, and now it is running OK. There was no burning smell or anything like that. I'm concerned though. It has never done this before, and I'm not sure what component caused it. It kind of sounded like the DVD rom drive, but there was nothing in the drive. The DVD drive does make weird noises when a disc is put in or when it's reading, but I don't know why it would have this time before no disc was inserted. The case (coolmaster centurion) does have two fans built in, one in the front and one in the back. But they are usually quiet.

Specs are:

Mobo: MSI P67A-G43 (B3) P67 ATX LGA1155

CPU: Intel Core i5 2400 Quad Core Processor LGA1155 3.1GHZ Sandy Bridge 6MB

RAM: G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600

Video card: Radeon HD 6950 2GB

HD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA3

PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W

Please help.
thanks

EDIT: Actually, IIRC I have heard this sound before under a previous configuration. Could it be one of the case fans? I'm surprised because of how loud it was.

A:computer crashing making a buzzing noise

That all depends. If you are not using the laptop while the "under powered" charger is plugged in, the battery will just take longer to charge. BUT, if you are using the laptop while the charger is plugged in, you could very easily do some serious damage to the laptop. The charger is meant to supply a certain amount of voltage at a certain load. If you are drawing more from the charger, more than it is meant to put out, you can fry the charger resulting in a short circuit and subsequently fry your motherboard.

Best thing to do is not use it anymore until you get either the OEM charger or a direct replacement from a company like Targus. Targus USA | Cases, Bags and Accessories for Laptops and Tablets

After you get the new charger, if you are still having problems, you will likely need to bring your laptop to a tech who can bench it and test the MoBo. Hope everything works out for you.

Hi ao6238, and welcome to TSG.

If the motherboard supports it, the beeping may be an internal overheating alarm and the shutdown may be a protective measure to prevent heat failure. Give us some details about your computer hardware setup.

I would guess that your power supply isn't giving you consistent power, but that's just a guess. To test it I would plug in a different power supply, if the problems goes away, that was it. If you have a tester power supply, or another comp you can pull one out of, that should work.

Okay never had this one happen.
I just recently replaced the mother board and power supply on my system.
My processor is an AMD Athlon XP3200. The mother board is an ABIT KW7. The power supply is an Antec SP500. Windows XP pro.

So its all been running smooth for about 3 weeks up until Friday night. I like to leave my system up and running, just letting it go into stand bye mode. I do shut it down at least once every couple of days. Well all of a sudden Friday night I come in from being outside and I hear this noise that sounds like an alarm going off. Rather reminded me of how a fog horn is blown. I follow it to the computer room where I find my system had no life but only making this alarm noise. I pulled the plug and felt the system. It felt warm but not that hot. I let it sit for an hour and I fired it back up and everything was fine. For safety sake I shut it down for the night. On Saturday morning I fired it up and things were fine. But come Saturday night I heard the alarm noise again and sure enough it was doing the Fog Horn alarm noise again with no other signs of life. I shut it down for the night.

I'm on it now and all the fans are running just fine. No system glitches either.

Is the processor over heating and just shutting down?? Thats my only guess. Not sure where to start or how and what to check.

Thoughts anyone??

Thanks

Hi, Everybody!

Please help! I'm not sure if I have a problem here or not. I just got me a new Compaq about 10 days ago- P4, 3Ghz, 1Ghz RAM, Vista Home Basic, Most of the bloatware/junk disabled or deleted).
The computer works fine...but yesterday, it started making funny noises that it hadn't made before. It sounds as though one of the fans is revving up...but only for one second at a time. Sometimes it will do this "revving" every few seconds...sometimes it will go for a while without doing it. Sometimes the revving is very loud...sometimes it's not too loud.
Tech support says it's normal- The fans just increasing RPM to cool things down when needed. But why didn't the computer do this since the beginning? And it doesn't matter if the computer is sitting idle with nothing running...or if it is being used. (I dont do anything hard core with it)
This noixe just doesn't sound right to me. It sounds like whenh a car engine isn't running right and keeps surging...and it doesn't go on long enough to really do any cooling anyway. Just for a second...

normal fan noise...
SURGE!!!!!(1 sec)
Normal noise(15 seconds)
SURGE!!!(1 sec)
Normal(15 sec)...etc.

Normal(20 minutes)
SURGE!!!(1 sec)
Normal(3 minutes)
SURGE!!!!!(3 seconds)

And the surging/revving noise is quite loud....I'm not talking about the fan doubling it's speed...I mean it sounds like it's quadrupling at least!

Other than that...everything seems fin... Read more

Quad Core, 2.80Ghz, Socket 1156, 8MB, 95W, Boxed w

And after installing everything it started to freeze and making these high pitched noises from the speakers. It occurs in some games and in vlc / media player classic, sometimes it takes 10 minutes, sometimes 4 hours.

So I formatted my hard drive, I even changed my hard drives, not the problem. Also ran a bunch of scans, nothing.

I did memtest86, widows diagnostic tool etc, no errors.

I bought a new CPU fan and the CPU gets up to 45-50C when I stress it. But it still freezes up and making the noise.

So I changed my RAM voltage to 1.648V (closest possible), and also the timers to 8-8-8-24. No changes.

I checked CPU-Z and realized that my CPU was clocked to 3.5 GHz. I put it to 2,8 GHz, still freezes.

The parts in the computer are installed properly.

The CPU did in fact get up to like 90C when it was set to 3.5 GHz, with the CPU fan i got from Intel. I don't know if that's the problem, that i may have damaged it that way? And thought I get some views on it before I... Read more

It seems like some sort of fan problem because usually I can feel the heated air coming out from the side but right now I don't feel it so I guess the heat cannot escape because the fan wouldn't blow the heat out!

My warranty is over too, it's slightly over a year that I bought it.

Hi Girom, It sounds like the one of the laptops fans have gone , Buying a likely replacement is not so difficult if you go the Ebay route search out your model in "laptop spares and accessories" ,Installing is not too hard to do either .

I bought a refurbed HP desktop in June 2008. It's been fine up until about a week ago. Then I started hearing intermittent whirring sounds, but the computer continued to work properly. On Saturday, I had it on for about a half hour when it started making a continuous high-pitched whirring. Concerned, I shut it off. When I turned it back on, the whirring noise continued, even louder and the computer shut off before it booted up all the way. I took it to a local computer repair shop, but when the tech plugged it in, it booted up and didn't whine or shut down. Any ideas what could be going on? Thanks.

A:Computer shut off at bootup, making whirring noise

It sounds like one of your fans are going bad. Possibly the CPU fan. Most motherboards will shutdown if the CPU fan is not running properly. Is the inside of the computer very dusty? If so you might want to buy some compressed air and spray it out.

Also dont know if its related, but when i try to play my game and run by holding both mouse buttons i notice that my charactor stops constantly. A week ago everything was running fine 3,4 days ago i notice that it is making much more noise than it should. It seems that it is CPU's fan's noise. Most probably dust is responsible for this.there is a lot of dust inside my CPU. This may hamper hardware badly(as i have seen in some websites). What should i do? can i solve this by my self or i need to go to computer repair shop.
one argument that this sound is not of fan is that, If it is sound of fan then it should start blowing very fast with noise after opening computer for long time since it blows when processor warms. But one can say that fan is not in well working state so that's why it is making this much sound, After all these are my arguments. I may wrong. what you think is possible reason for this problem.
thanks to all those who reply.

A:why my computer's fan making large noise at start up time? A week

For waht amount of time is it load? Lots of Motherboards start up with the fan at full speed until the CPU temperature can be evaluated. However, that is for a very brief period of time.

If you have lots of dust in the heat sink cooling fins, then it may take a while for the processor temp to stabilize. Best to blow the air out of the fins.

So hello,

I have a question, but first off let me start with my specs:
Mobo Intel D201GLY which has soldered down 1,33ghz celeron 215 processor.
Max memory is 533mhz ddr2 1gb which I have.
graphics im using is onboard, since it doest have pci-e slot.
So my question is how to make this computer run like fast? will SSD make it a lot faster?
Anyone can recommend PCI ( not PCI-E ) graphics that can handle windows aero?

Appriciate any help.
Thanks
