I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Your Inspiron 15 1564 came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit (Legacy BIOS) in 2011 and its warranty expired in 2013. I believe due to Microsoft's obligations Dell have stopped shipping physical installation media.
You can however Download a Windows 10 RS2 .iso (recommended) from Microsoft which will accept your Windows 7 Home Premium Product key affixed to your COA (look under the battery) or Download a Windows 7 .iso from Microsoft.

@jesusalvarez Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Ordinarily, I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. That would erase the entire drive, format the drive, and install the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. They no long stock recovery media for the older PCs.You can try contacting HP Customer Support directly, using the links below, to see if you can order if from them:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/Before using the media, read through this: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110Good Luck

Hello people.

I'm new to this so please bear with me.
Okay so I'll give a brief explanation of what's going on.
So a couple of years ago I gave my old computer(HP Pavillion p2 Series /with Windows 7 home) to my younger siblings, because I moved and got a new computer for school. I put a secure Anti-Virus on the computer when I had it and never had a problem with it, but knowing my family they some how got it swarming with Viruses and Spyware...

My first option was to restore it to a date when I still had it, but it would only give me about 5 days ago with checking the "Show more dates" which I have never seen before. Now I know the "basics" of getting a virus off a computer, but if you guys saw this thing..
After that failed I was going to just try and simply delete everything on the computer with a Factory Default Restore. After getting into the System Recovery page, I tried to do the step by step thing it asked. I don't care to much about saving anything on it. (besides Windows of course) And it led to an option with deleting everything and restoring to a image or something? I've never heard of that but then again I'm not experienced with Windows or Computers in general. So I tried that and it was about to start it when an "error 0xe0ef000d" came up, pretty much saying it doesn't have an image to restore to.

With not having any disc's that the computer came with, I am wondering if the option of Restoring to Factory Default is still valid f... Read more

That error means it cannot create a directory or one it is looking for does not exist, sounds like it is having problems writing or reading to the hard drive.

Is it a seagate or western digital disk? How old is pc? Was it shipped with vista or win7?

So on my 3-week old Dell XPS 13 Gold edition, I went to start it up today and Windows would not boot - a file "winload.efi" is missing.Startup repair wouldn't fix.
All PC diagnostics done from the BIOS say that everything passed.
When I first purchased the PC, I immediately made a USB recovery media using the built-in using the instructions here:

I am pressing F12 on startup and selecting the USB drive as the boot device. I select the "US" keyboard layout, then I try to "Recover from a Drive". I immediately get a message stating "Unable to recover".

So I try to do a "Factory Image Restore". A Dell window pops up briefly stating "Updating Files", then gives me the error "No Factory Image Found".
*sigh* Is there anything else I can do, apart from paying DELL for recovery media? I REALLY don't want to do that, seeing as the PC is only 3 weeks old, has already had WiFI & Bluetooth issues, and cost over a THOUSAND dollars........................

Your system spec say it's a home built machine. Do you want to re-install Vista? If you want a clean install of Vista or Windows 7 just slap that disk in and format and re-install. That will be "factory"....your factory from when you built it.

You can try "Restoration", it's free and I've recovered a couple of documents with it. I think you can only restore one file at a time though, but I'm not sure. Good luck!

3. You wish to remove all old files off the computer.

I have installed a second internal hard drive and would like to transfer valuable files to it before running a factory restore. I was just wanting some peace-of-mind confirmation that doing this will not affect anything on the second hard drive. The OS is installed on the first, original, drive.
Thanks.

A:Factory Restore

confirmation that doing this will not affect anything on the second hard driveClick to expand...

any reason for this statement - whats on the drive
If they are
valuable filesClick to expand...

then you should have them backed up already onto at least two other read devices like DVDs external drives etc
So i would suggest you make sure you have copies on an external device which is not connected to the PC
Power surge on that PC which takes out the harddrives and you have lost everything

Hello,

Can someone give me a bit of advice please?

I am about to do a factory restore on my computer and not ever having done it before, I wondered if there were any tips anyone could give me as to the best way to go about it? Thanks.

I've also got a couple of questions I would like answering please.

1. When my computer manufacturer (Compaq) says that a factory restore restores the computer to the factory settings, does it mean that it will be as it was when I bought it because as well as having XP installed, it also came with a lot of other software as well, for example WORD.

2. After I have done the restore, will I have to download all the updates there has been to XP since I bought the computer, and what do I do about installing SP2, plus my Firewall, AV, etc. Thanks again ..........O.G.

A:Factory Restore

Everything will be exactly as you got it, although it may retain some personal settings, so any programs like Word should return. As the restore is a combination of what is on your restore CD's and the info on a partition on your hard drive, anything that has happened since the date of manufacture (like Windows Updates) will need to be done again. That includes any AV not included with the computer, a firewall etc.

The only tip that I can give is that you back up any personal data because a full restore will wipe everything clean. I think there is a quick restore that reloads the OS without affecting everything else. That option should be in your Start menu somewhere.

Whenever I shut down my computer it can't start without me using the factory restore cd, then it works absolutely fine, until the next time I shut it down. But of course, this means all of my files/software has been wiped off my computer. If I try to use the computer without restoring it first, it freezes every time I open an application, or even clicking the start menu or right clicking in the background. Then shortly after it will be followed by the blue screen, saying something about fatal system error.

I thought it could have been that windows was being corrupted every time I switched it off because of windows automatic update. After yesterdays restore I disabled automatic update, and same problem this morning, computer wouldn't start, so it isn't that.

The only software I have downloaded is diablo 3, it says that my video card driver is out of date, but the game runs fine. Wondering if it may have something to do with that? P.S. the computer is about 2 months old. These problems started just over a week ago. There was nothing different about the computer before and after it happened, so I am a little clueless with what's wrong - any help on the matter would be great!

A:Have to use factory restore cd every day.

I would start with a ChkDsk. To do a one, follow the steps below :

1) Click on Start, and then type cmd in the search box. Then, on the found file, cmd.exe, Right-click, and choose Run as Admin.

2) After you have opened the Command Prompt, you can run CheckDisk. Do so, by typing in chkdsk /r.

3) If it tells you that it cannot lock the drive, choose Y to run at startup, and restart.

(Hopefully it doesn't need to restart, considering that a restart corrupts the computer)

I've run into some issues recently, regarding my PC's performance, that disc cleanups, defragments, virus scans, removing programs, and regular system restores just won't help with.
I believe I've obtained a virus, though I'm not sure how. My notebook is roughly nine years old, so slow boot-ups and connections are expected, however, recently I've been able to get it running smoothly and efficiently for basic internet uses, such as e-mail and social networking. This virus that I may or may not have has slowed down my already sluggish machine, and upped CPU usage, as well as interfered with basic internet tools such as security algorithms and certificates. It has also disallowed me to follow hyperlinks, be it from Google or another source, and instead brings me to random pages and advertisements that do not allow me to easily close.
The gist of this long passage is that I wish to perform a factory reset on the machine, but, seeing as though the notebook came with XP Professional already installed, I do not have an installation disc. Is it still possible, and if so, how is it done?
Thanks in advance!

A:I can't factory restore

Hi: Since your notebook did not come from the factory with W10, you have to try this option... Read the section at the link below under the Refresh Your Windows 10 Computer heading. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/system-restore-factory-reset-work-windows-10/ If that doesn't work you can clean reinstall Windows 10 by making an installation disk or usb flash drive from the link below by using the Media Creation Tool.  You will have to reinstall all files and programs that you need. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Presumably, your PC came with Windows 7 from the factory and if you want to reinstall W7, you will need to call HP and order a set of recovery disks for your mobile workstation. If you live in the USA/Canada, you can call this number... 1-800-334-5144 Have the serial number of the PC handy to give to the customer services rep.

Hi I have an emachine 4685 windows XP. How can I restore to original factory settings? Any help would be appriciated. I lost my cd to the computer but it does have factory restore partiton.

A:factory restore

You go to Emachines site -> eMachines Support: Support Documents Series&model=W4685

Assuming that's a Desktop W series that's what you input.

They have a Guide.

A:how to do factory restore....?

Try going into the BIOS (F10 as you power up) and run the hard drive test. That error points to a bad hard drive or memory.  Were you having performance problems and that is why you are trying to restore?

Hello, I am trying to Restore a Philips MultiMedia PC to Factory Setting, I have tried hitting the F11 Key on start up but with nothing. I see the DEL key brings me to the BIOS but I am unsure where to go from there. I got this PC from a friend and I am trying to fix it up for my daughter. The PC is running XP with a AMD processor also seems to have been manufactured in 2002. Can anyone please help. Also I don't have the XP disc.

Well, I was tinkering with my wife's new Dell laptop (Win 7 Home Premium) and I guess maybe I got too happy with the CCleaner and deleted some registry entries er something.

It was working great and I noticed that it would not recognize an external drive I was going to install some progs from, even though I can go in to Admin Tools and see it there, and then I tried taking it online and it says Windows Explorer not responding all the time, so I think the best bet at this point is to restore it back to out of the box condition.

I just started tweaking on it, so it's not like I'll be losing much work.

Anybody know how to do this without using the re-install disc, or is that what I need to use?

A:How to Restore to Factory New???

I found the Windows restore feature and set that to restore it to yesterday when it was working just fine.

Hopefully that will do it. This happened before I got Acronis installed, otherwise I would have used that.

hi.. I'm new to this site. I'm not very tech savy, but i do know how to do a lot of the basic stuff when it comes to working with PCs. Here's my Q..

My bf and I bought a tower off of craigslist and realized it needed a monitor plug on the back. We found this out after we had taken the PC to a shop near us. He installed what he called a video card and also installed the driver. Now, I need to take this PC back to factory condition so I can start fresh. I would like to know if I take the PC back to factory condition aka factory restore, if the driver for this "video card" will be deleted or If i'll still be able to see the screen afterwards?

I'm not sure if my Q makes any sense, but I hope that someone will get the gist of what I'm talking about. I don't wanna do a factory restore and not be able to see the screen so that I can re-install the driver for the video card as the guy at the shop sent me home with a disk that he said was the 'software'/driver for the video card.

Can anyone help me? When responding back, please put things in Laymon's terms as I'm not familiar with all the tech vocab. Ty.

P.S. I'm running XP with 1.24Ghz AMD athalon processor and 512MB Ram.. idk if this is relevant to my Q, just trying to follow directions in posting.

A:doing a factory restore

XP will install a generic driver that will work well enough for you to see the screen. It may be at lower resolution than you are used to, but it will work well enough for you to be able to install the correct driver for the card.

Hey guys I have a HP G61 and i reinstalled windows 7 ultimate, and when it came on and had me do the 'first time start up' stuff, i did it all like i did the first time. Now it says I have no graphics card, IDT HD audio isnt on there anymore, and my synaptics mousepad is just standard now with no scroll. I have ATI/AMD Radeon HD4200 integrated graphics.

A:Did a factory restore! Help!

You can find you graphics driver here under notebook graphics.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
Should be able to find your other driver by searching your full model
number here......
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
The full model number should be on the bottom of the laptop.

Well, apparently asking how to do this in someone's elses thread that KNOWS HOW to do it, isn't the way to go.. So, just asking here "in my own thread"..

I may have screwed up the regedit on one of my other computers.. It has Windows XP Pro on it now, I upgraded it from Windows 98SE.. I couldn't get the network adapter to work on it, and I don't really want to go out and buy a new one, cause I don't think it's necessary.. So, any help?

A:Factory Restore..

Updated drivers for the adapter from it's manufacturer's website
