Proxy server/ ads by virtual

Q: Proxy server/ ads by virtual

I've recently noticed a bunch of pop ups on my browsers containing ads by virtual. I believe it is to do with the proxy server on i have tried changing the server but it jusst keeps turning itself back on. I have remove it from the registry and it still comes back. Please help, it is very annoying

Preferred Solution: Proxy server/ ads by virtual

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I appear to be the victim of some piece of malware or virus that has added a proxy server setting that I am unable to get rid of. The main symptoms are that I am unable to change my proxy server settings in Windows 10. It appears to use this setting http=;. The result of this is that I am unable to do searches in the omnibar of Google Chrome (just takes me to a blank page) and I can't visit certain webpages, also if I am able to do a Google search the "Search Tools" button is missing.
I looked around on the internet and have tried a few fixes, I've deleted or changed the registry entries mentioned in Philip Turner's reply here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1
I also changed the entry mentioned here: https://fixedit.itxpress.biz/2014/10/08/unable-to-disable-windows-proxy-setting/
Making these changes allowed me to change the proxy server settings and once I change "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use a a proxy server" to off then the issue is fixed and everything behaves normally.
The problem is, once I restart my computer the settings revert back and are again unable to be changed unless I delete/change all the above registry entries again. I'm pretty sure that whatever did this is still on my computer somewhere and I need some help finding and eliminating it. Either that, or there is still some hidden registry entry that I am unable to find.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.
To download Network Monitor, please refer to the link below:

This is a spoofing vulnerability that exists in the affected products and that could enable an attacker to spoof trusted Internet content. Users could believe they are accessing trusted Internet content when in reality they are accessing malicious Internet content, for example a malicious Web site. However, an attacker would first have to persuade a user to visit the attacker’s site to attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 2

i am just messing about experimenting on a few things at home and wondered if someone could give me some pointers on the folowing:
I have myself a win2k server that is connected to the internet using a cable modem connected using a ethernet net card.
I also have a 98 machine networked to the server using another ethernet net card in a workgroup
I want to use the server as a proxy server so i can access the internet from the 98 machine
i have tried a few diffrent things to get this working but usually end up losing all communication with the 98 pc
from what i can gather it involves setting up tings with DNS, and sharing the connection to the internet, but i am not getting to far at the mo.

I recently started administering an existing network of a small company. There are two locations, about 100 miles apart. Each has a Win2000 server and about 12 workstations each, some XP Pro and some Win2000 Pro. Each server is connected to the internet using a DSL account, and the Win2000 servers are configured as routers. I want to be able to map one server to the other, and vice versa. I want users to be able to use a database on one server from the other location. I am not sure how exactly I would best be able to do this; do I need to set up a VPN, and if so, what exactly do I need to click on to enable incoming and outgoing communications, so that these servers can see eachother and talk? Can it be done with just the Win2000Server or do I actually need to buy routers or other software? I have messed around with the VPN connection wizard but can not get a connection established. RRAS is not somehting I am familiar with, so that is where I got stuck. I am pretty new to all of this so as much detailed help would be appreciated!
Thank you,

I'm trying to install ISA Server 2006 on a server 2003 virtual server and I keep getting errors during installation. I read the installation logs after it fails, and it states that it failed to delete a previous SQL Installation. Specifically a folder named MSSQL$MSFW.
This is the error message:
Deleting previous MSDE installation directory <C:\Program Files\microsoft sql server\MSSQL$MSFW>
Setup failed. Error returned: 0x643
MSDE Installation failed, hr=80070643
Performing rollback (uninstall) of firewall

I have also tried installing SQL, but it does not create that folder, and it still fails.
I googled this and other people have had this error and if they created that directory for ISA to delete, it worked. It did not for me though. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone find solutions?
Could it be that ISA will not install on a virtual server? Install notes say nothing and neither does Microsoft.

Currently I have a static ip address through my ISP and I would like to know how to change it to a dynamic one.

So far my understanding is that this can be achieved via a proxy server. Unfortunately I have no idea what this is or how it works. Is this some type of card that I put into a PCI slot, or an outside box that connects to the computer? If it will work on my system, do you recommend one over another?

First call your ISP and ask them if they have a proxy server you can access.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to explain what a proxy server is and why I should be bothered to "enable" mine. Something which appears I have done without knowing why. I think I ran into the suggestion somewhere in my computer travels.

I would appreciate it.

A:Proxy Server?

A proxy server is a program that acts as an intermediary between computers on your LAN and computers on the Internet. Proxy servers often have a cache built in to make web surfing faster. Some proxy servers also allow the filtering of web content or domains. Additionally, almost all proxy servers support logging.

Just like other internet connection sharing technologies, only one internet connection or internet IP address is needed to serve internet data to all of the workstations on your home network.

Workstations on your home network must request data (like web pages) from the proxy server to access the internet. The proxy server then fetches the internet data, checks it’s filters, and returns it to the workstation that requested it. Because a proxy server does all of the data requesting, each workstation must be configured to make all internet requests from the proxy server - not the internet. Sometimes software does not allow this sort of configuration and can not be used with proxy servers.

Since proxy servers are not a ‘transparent’ connection sharing technology, configuring a proxy server for more than basic web, ftp, news and mail functionality can be challenging for a beginner.

We have recently updated our environment to IE11.
The machines in question use a point of sale application that loads immediately after reboot (every night) so it does not load explorer. At this point IE works fine and loads the allowed web sites. and the proxy server is there in IE under LAN connections
When the application is terminated and explorer executed, it applies its personalized settings for web platform customization. And the proxy server is missing from IE LAN connections, you can add it manually and it works fine afterwards. But not an ideal
solution in a big environment like ours

The proxy server is still in the registry, but not applied to IE settingsAll these machines are in a workgroup and not part of a domain (not an option!)I removed the active set up component for the web platform customization, made no differenceRe ran the reg edit file with the proxy server, no joy
Does anyone have any ideas on what causes this issue? There have been updates in relation to the IE update. And is there a way to force IE to look at the registry for its proxy server? Or even better stop what is causing the removal of the proxy server from
IE in the first place?

Recently, I wasn't able to get into two specific web pages, msn.com and cnn.com, (only had problems with these two). I never had problems before, but now I kept getting the "Cannot Display Page" message. I contacted MSN and they told me it had to do with my ISP. My ISP, Adelphia Cable, switched my browser in the tools menu so that I went through a proxy server (proxy.buf.adelphia.net) to get me into these two sites. I don't understand why I have to use their proxy server? They told me it detours around an Atlanta router where the tracert route seemed to timed out? Can anybody tell me what's going on here? I never used a proxy server before, so why should I have to use one now? They tell me a proxy server has a time delay so if you have to make an investment trade there could be a problem.

How to configure MS Proxy server to not allow every netwok user to access the internet.

A:NT4 proxy server

You can create a group called "Internet users" or something like that in User Manager for Domains. Add the users you want to allow to have internet access.
On your proxy server, in Internet Service Manager, click on the Winsock Proxy, go to the Permissions tab. In the Enable access control list, you need to add the internet group that you have created and remove any other people.
Any person who is trying that access the internet will have a box pop up asking for a password but it won't allow them in.

Have a look in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, it may also be able to help you.

I'm seeking information on how to go about setting up a proxy server. Currently we deny internet access by machine. That works well if the employee at the machine has no legit reason to be on the internet but it doesn't help with employees that do need the internet just not all of it. Basically i'm interested in setting up something that can block by website. The router has this feature but only for four sites (really cheap router for now). Thanks for your assistance.

A:How to set up a proxy server

You simply install some proxy software on a machine and set up a firewall rule on the router that allows traffic only from the proxy machine. Configure all the clients to use the proxy.

Unless you have a fast connection and lots of clients, any old crap PC should be able to do the job.

Squid+Linux would be the most popular and logical choice, but there are other operating system and proxy suites that work just as well.

Hi, zf490. I'll do my best to answer your questions, but you can read this for all the boring details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server1. I'm fairly certain you can only have proxy options for a browser, not a router...but I haven't looked at my router's settings in a while, and I don't have access to it right now, so I'm not sure on this one.2. Yes, using a proxy changes your IP address.3. I understand the question, but I'm not positive of the answer, as I do not have experience with proxies.Basically, the premise of a proxy is this: you want to change your IP address for some reason (usually due to restrictions of your country of residence). Using a proxy reroutes your connection to all websites through the proxy server you chose to use. This makes your IP address appear to come from the location of the proxy server instead of your actual location. Think about it like tracing a phone call. If you put up some sort of filter/firewall, you can give the call tracer a false location (I assume this is possible, I don't really know...it just seemed like a good analogy).A good example is this: I wanted to watch a certain video, but the website would not allow me to because I don't live in Canada (wasn't my location). If I had used a proxy that routed through Canada, I would have been able to watch the video. But I didn't care enough to go to that trouble. If you want to experiment with proxies, I have no recommendations, as I have never used one myself. Just be careful if y... Read more
