Malware by dvd company

Q: Malware by dvd company

Hi everyone,

Since putting a commercial dvd into my pc the reader/writer I used will not write. I get the error message 'INVALID BLOCK ADDRESS' (immediately after the lead-in - which nicely ruins the disc, of course)!

I reinstalled the o.s. from an Acronis back-up and the writer worked - once. After that I had the same error message again.

I downloaded the device firmware update (which was already installed) and tried to install it again.
The installer reported that there were 8 such devices and asked whether I wanted to update them all!!

I then discovered that if I uninstalled the device proper, from within device manager, and rebooted I could write with it - but only once - thereafter I got the error message and another ruined disc! I have successfully done this several times just to use the writer the once each time.

This proves to me that the writer is not inherently 'duff' & neither is the prog (re-installed) or drivers. But how to effect a permanent cure?

Is it possible to find and 'uninstall' the 'ghost' devices (to which the prog obviously trys to write)? I can't find them!

Also, if I could find and remove them, is the device damaged by the dvd so that it will aalways re-install the 'ghost' devices?

Uninstalling and rebooting lets me write once every time using the ailing writer (it always reads incidentally).

Anyway, (without posting the fail log) that's all the info. The fail log by the way, shows no aspi drivers (which certainly are there - but not perhaps to a writer that doesn't exist)!

Anyone got any suggestions please on how to permanently cure the problem?

Many thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have this annoying pop up when ever I log on. I log on and it pops up twice. I believe it is only on logging in, I don't recall it doing it after I exit from it. Anyway, it says:
Subscription Renewal Reminder
Provided by ca Computer Associates
Your EZ Antivirus Subscription has Expired

Then it goes on to tell me I need to renew it or exit, which I always exit. How can I remove this? Here is my Hijack This..if that helps.
Thank you so much!

My internet connection was great up until 4 days ago. I realized that the cable company had my address in the system wrong so I called to get it corrected and they said they had to do something on their end and I would lose my connection for about 30 minutes. Since my connection came back, I've had a horrible connection on this pc. It drops about every 20 seconds. I do not have a router hooked up now and it still is not working. The cable company tried everything including sending out a tech. The tech ran a bunch of tests and showed the signal comes into and out of the modem great(3 new modems have been tried) and that the connection breaks down at my pc. I tried my laptop with the ethernet cable and the connection is good on it so it does appear to be my pc now.

I ran AVG on the system and there are no viruses detected. This is a new pc(2 months old) and I'm running Vista. Please help! I do a lot of work from home and this is very frustrating! Thanks in advance.

A:[SOLVED] PC keeps dropping internet and cable company says it is a virus or malware

Hello -

I see this topic has been marked Solved. Did you find a solution to your issue?

From what I see in the posted logs, there's no malware.

I do see signs that Norton was once present on the machine, and that AVG is your current AntiVirus. If true, be sure to run the Norton Removal Tool.

1. Download this file:

Save the file to the Windows desktop.

2. On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions. Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.

Yesterday, I did a scan of my network with WireShark 3.2.6  Scan was done on my hardwired Ethernet connection. I am somewhat new to advanced wireshark and I do not know everything there is to know but I am in the process of learning.
While looking at the results of a short scan I saw some unsettling IP Addresses that were appearing on my network. I do a lot of schoolwork online and I need to setup Windows 10 Professional's Firewall to block this IP Address or possibly even a range of
IP Addresses.
Problem is: When I do searches with keywords such as "Blocking an IP Address with Windows 10 firewall" I end up receiving results that are intended for businesses or results that are meant for a Windows Server.
I need an understandable solution to this potential security problem. One that I can use Microsoft tools to fix and not some 3rd party app if possible.
My system:
Windows 10 Professional build 18363.1016
MS Office 365 Enterprise Edition subscription through my school
Dell Optiplex 790 with the latest BIOS update

I have an interesting problem that has been driving some pretty smart IT guys nuts. To perform my job I have to access a certain venders web pages that has security set up that I do not know all the details of. Anyway on the company PC using the company image that is a normal XP image and maintained by Comp U Com.

Any time I access this vender's web page it works fine until just after the log in screen. Once I put in my user name and password and click Ok IE just goes blank white and that's it. No error msg no nothing, its not locked up as the frame is still there and the world is turning but nothing else.

This happens on all the company PCs accessing this particular vender's web page as I went and checked. So I wanted to see if it the problem was in the PC or the network. I took the company PC home and was able to successfully log into that vender's web page from my cable modem at that house. Worked fine.

I have already added the vender web pages to the trusted zone and enabled all the active X and everything, deleted the cookies, tried some proxies etc. Every setting that can be done on the PC I have tried.

My question is what is the company network security system blocking that IE needs to work and how to resolve?

A:IE blank page problem on company network but works fine off company network

Oh and to add this I loaded FireFox and from the company PC on the company network it logs in fine but FireFox will not display the page correctly and all the buttons do not work right so that is another issue.

I would like to get IE working as that is what these pages were written for

I?m looking for a Data Recovery company [not a Data Software company] to recover data on my drive that will not spin. Want to spend less than $1000. Please advise.

A:Recommend Data Recovery Company not Data Software Company

Best Data Recovery Company

I have visited many data recovery websites and evaluated their product.

But my experience with one data recovery is almost excellent.

Nucleus Data Recovery, the leading data recovery company having biggest range of professional data recovery software.

Their support is also excellent you drop a email for any help they will respond within 5 minutes.

To recover your data try Kernel Recovery for FAT+NTFS.

The DEMO allows you to preview the recoverable contents and you can check whether the file is recovered correctly or not by double clicking on it.

I recently got a job in medical informatics. I work at home and access the company's data base through a laptop supplied by the company. I didn't know when I hired on that the company forbids the use of a wireless connection. I have a wireless router and my office is on a different floor than my router. I can get the office hard wired, but in the meantime I was wanting to know if there is any way the company can know that I am using a wireless router. They are OK with me using the wireless router, as long as the laptop is physically connected. BTW, I have WAP on the wireless for security.

A:Can my company know?

I assume you are connecting through a VPN appliction? I hope you are using WPA2 for the wireless encryption.

purchased a yoga 900 in July 2016. everything working great until late december when i closed the laptop after using it. i felt the machinisms a little tight and heard a crack as i was about half way closing the screen. as i reopened it, i noticed a crack along the left side starting at the base. i reached out to Lenovo tech and was told i would be notified. i sent pictures and statement on what occured. the incident was no fault of mine. Being the 5th lenovo i have owned and the first time i have experienced this, i knew this was a faulty machine with a defective screen. this is the reason i reached out to lenovo. after a couple weeks of no response and follow ups after follow ups on my end, i was emailed a response from their "case manager" stating this was not going to be covered on their base warranty as they deemed this as an "accidental" incident. while i waited for a response, i had no choice but to purchase another laptop for work purposes. until now, i have been a huge fan anf spokes person for Lenovo. i have a different outlook at this company and will no longer purchase from Lenovo or advise any one of my employees to do so.

getting rid of your current DSL company is easy, just call them and cancel. However finding a different DSL company may be impossible since they have to use the same wires to your house. You don't say where you are so I have to suggest Google. For example search with dsl provider Mytown MystateReplacing Mytown and Mystate with where you live.Good LuckRogerA quick question since the DSL + Phone service is your cost, have you looked into Cable Internet and VOIP to replace the phone service?

A new SATA CD/DVD drive is $30 or less, shipped from newegg or Amazon. It wouldn't surprise me if you have to pay over half that for a drive cover, assuming you can find the supplier. New would be the preferred choice, who knows how much longer a drive will last that is already several years old anyway.

This makes very interesting reading and applies to ALL countries and ALL firms, especially Finance/accounting & Law firms. The "spies" will always go for the easiest targets

The managing partner of a large New York law firm had a visit from the FBI in which he learned that the files of every one of his firm's clients had been copied from the law firm's servers and placed on servers in Asia known to be used as transfer points in APT attacks (APT translates loosely to Chinese, he learned). Nine days later, he and another partner from his firm came to my house on a Sunday morning for a conversation. They wanted to know why the intruders wanted the data, how they got in, why the firewalls and AV and other security tools their consultants told them to install didn't stop the attacks, and how they could be stopped in the future. I have a corporate notebook computer. To send or receive any email I have to log into a vpn. I've always wondered if this notebook has software running on it to spy on me. I can see all the applications running but that really doesn't answer my question. Does anyone know how to really see if I'm being spied on?

A:Is there a way to see if my company is spying on me?

The Question is self explanatory. I just wanted to see what other people thought.

Wow, eVGA is good.

A:Which nVIDIA Company is the best?

eVGA has 4 votes with 80% and XFX has 1 vote from me with 20%.

People like eVGA because they think the step up program is worth its weight in gold when really it is a very limited con with a ton of fine print. Also I beleive eVGA advertises more than any other GPU company, like moths to a pourch light come the people to the pretty ad

I like XFX cause of their double warranty, It is a liftime warranty for the original buyer and same goes if you sell the card to somone, they are the only company that lets the warranty pass from the original purchaser to secondary buyer that I know of, I may be wrong though. Although this is a really good quality because if I am selling my 8800GTX a year down the road I am sure I will get top dollar for it due to the fact that even if I was selling a DOA product the buyer is garunteed to get a new one directly from XFX. I also prefer them because out of about 20 products both for personal use and cards I put in customer machines, I have had not one single problem.

All in all unless you are buying from some "B" company most of the products are pretty close quality wise from the top manufactures. All it really comes down to is the perks you get with the card at the time of purchase, it may be a great warranty, step up program or even a really good game bundle. You just have to ask yourself which perk best suites your needs...

eVGA is killing my beloved XFX now

Hello! I was wondering what type of antivirus strategy a company should take to have the BEST system in place. My company only uses Symantec Corporate Edition on the desktops at present - each individually configured. Is this enough? Should we have a "managed" approach? If so, how hard is this to install and setup if you have little experience? I should say that the company has almost 400 computers and is growing. We also do not have in-house email, but use an ISP for POP3 mail.

Thanks for any help!

I Installed Company of Heroes. It worked great. BF2 would then give me a Memory.dll error and would not run. I reinstalled BF2 then I got the memory .dll error on COH.
Now i can't remove COH its not in the program list and says when I try to remove you can only remove if installed? Its still got the icon on the desktop and is still in the prog list from the start menu but can't find it anywhere else. Where can I get the memory.dll that it says is missing.
HELP!! Please.
Thanks John

I'm running a fairly dated computer:

6000+ dual core (2 x 3.0ghz)
Asus Matrix 4850 512MB @ 725/2000 core/mem
2GB DDR2 800
Forget my motherboard model as I'm at work but it's an am2/am3 board.

Just wondering what I should upgrade first to get the biggest bang/buck performance increase for BC2? I play on my 1920x1080 22" BenQ monitor and would like to play on at least medium settings. I have the game on order.

A:Upgrade for Bad Company 2

a new graphics card would get you the most results, if by chance your MB has another pcie slot, add another 4850. you also need to add another 2GB of ram for gaming (especially for games like BC2) you will only get to use about 3GB for working memory because of the limitation of your 32 bit OS, but add 2GB to keep your dual channel function.

a couple questions for you,
1) what are the specs of your PSU?
2) whats your budget for this upgrade?
3) is DX11 a priority for you?

Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong group. I could finger out where else to post my question.

I have been asked at work to talk to an IT support company to look after out IT.

We have a mix of WinXP and Win7 PCs and Laptops, a Server 2003 and a few network printers.

Before I start call people, what 5 questions do you think I shoud ask them, to make sure they are capable of doing the job?

Thanks for you're help.

A:IT Support Company - What do I need to ask

I'd ask them if they are primarily phone support or do they also offer on-site support.

Are they available 24/7, if not how much per hour is a late night call out charge.

Does the cost of hiring the company include scheduled maintenance (some companies do, some don't)

What are their backup policies, this is an important one. (Do they keep the backups off site and secured)

What security policies would they wish to implement should they get the contract.

How long is the contract.

Whom else do they work for. Do some digging on them as there are a few not-so-good ones out there.

That's a few questions, but if it were my company, I'd really grill them as IT Support is crucial to most companies.
