Lenovo Yoga 530 14ARR - BUG - Yoga Mode Control (YMC)-service requires 3% CPU resource.

Q: Lenovo Yoga 530 14ARR - BUG - Yoga Mode Control (YMC)-service requires 3% CPU resource.

Like stated in the description. the Lenovo Yoga Control Service require 3% out of the CPU, all the time. and the only thing the service does is checking the orientation of the screen, and disable keyboard and mouse when flipped. This is absurd, especially since it drains battery constantly. I hope that this will be fixed eventually, until that time, I will turn the service off and use the computer like a regular laptop.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

I have always been a fan of Lenovo but things like this will make me think twice about purchasing their laptops again. I have the YOGA 720 13. The Lenovo Yoga mode control service runs in the background and uses an inordinate amount of CPU resources. On the task manager I can see it uses on average 8-10% of CPU resources continuously. Needless to say this will reduce your battery runtime considerably. I waited to see if Lenovo would fix this issue as it has been mentioned in the forums many times previously but it seems they either dont care or are still somehow unaware of this ridiculously bad software engineering problem. This problem seems to be not just on my model but on several other Yoga models. Considering that battery time is one of the most important considerations in a laptop I wish they would fix this. In any case things like this will impact my next purchasing decision. My solution in the end was to disable the service altogether in the Services tab. Its a pity that a nice piece of hardware is being limited by sloppily coded software. Disabling the YMC service causes your keyboard to be responsive when using the laptop in presentation or tent mode which is annoying as well but at least I get some decent battery time (for Windows...). FYI. If you want much better battery runtime forget windows and try Ubuntu linux 18.10, I often get about 30% more battery when doing casual browsing/document editing.

Hello everybody, since I started my new Yoga 530-14ARR (with Ryzen 3) I got several issues with the touchpad that often stop working without any apparent reason. In 2 months I updated the BIOS (twice) and all the drivers using the Lenovo System Update utility but it seems not to be a stable solution. I tried to manually install a Synaptic driver but I only got a "No Matched TouchPad Device In This System". I also tried to reinstall Windows 10 and it worked but just for a while.... At the moment the touchpad is dead, in Device Manager is not even recognized under "Mice & Other Pointing Devices" but only in "Human Interface Device"I don't know what else to do..... any advice? Thank you Mauro

Hi, I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 530 with an AMD5 processor. I had to send the first one back because I got a BSOD twice. I 've received a new one and unfortunately there's this one thing I can't overlook. The other one had this probleem too. Every 20 minutes or so, the laptop makes a horrible loud fan noise. Something you would not expect from a modern laptop (I think), it sounds like an airplane is taking off. When it happens I'm usually working in microsoft office or just browsing (or both), and when I'm at the library studying it sounds so loud I'm scared it will disturb others lol.  Is there anything I can do to minimize the sound? I already looked around on the internet for tips but usually the descriptions of possible solutions are a bit complicated for me (I don't know a lot about laptops) and I'm also scared to mess up my laptop. Any tips woud be very helpful.  Kind regards, Mary

As a game developer I wanted to point out a couple of quite big problems with the Lenovo 530 Ryzen Mobile laptops, I hope this can gain some traction and eventually reach the developers of drivers- and BIOS'es at Lenovo.  BIOS             Unable to allocate VRAM. 256MB up to 2GB should be available in the BIOS. This is a really big issue since 256MB renders some applications useless. I can't activate full hardware acceleration in Adobe Photoshop CC. Black Magic Da Vinci Resolved won't start due to limited VRAM. Texture streaming is having issues in Unreal Engine 4. I know that the GPU can dynamically allocate more VRAM if needed, however a lot of applications need 512MB (or more) of dedicated VRAM in order to run, please increase this, or preferably let us to choose how much we want to dedicate to the GPU.   Radeon Drivers                                    Can't  add custom resolutions to internal screen (although it works on external screens) - I was able to do so with registry hacks, without any issues. With this being said, it should be supported by the Software itself.AMD Hardware Codec doesn't work for encoding videos, making it hard to stream or encode videos over the GPUFreesync doesn't work properly - I have a f... I've recently (13th of April) bought new Yoga 530-14IKB. It has adequate CPU i3-8130U, which is faster than i5-6200U in my sister's Acer laptop, but I anyway don't play any games. Despite that, its battery life isn't good. It works about 3-3,5 hours in Chrome. In task manager I've noticed that Yoga Mode Control is constantly using 15-30% CPU and its battery usage is described as very high. After disabling it, I can't switch to the tablet mode and keyboard and touchpad don't turn off. Is there somebody who has Yoga laptop and experience similar problem?

Hello All, I have an issue with my YOGA 700 laptop when logged in multiple accounts simultaneously. Whenever an account is left logged on and the user is switched as opposed to logging off, the cpu usage ramps up very high with several RUNDLL32 processes being the culprit. I have checked the RUNDLL32 processes with Process Explorer and the command line are as follows:C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe C:\ProgramData\LenovoTransition\Server\x64\EnableAutoRotation.dll,RunCustomMonitor The directory is as follows: C:\ProgramData\LenovoTransition\Server\x64\ The only solution I have found is restarting the laptop. The problems comes back when again more than one user is logged in. Also, the rundll32 processes only run high cpu on one account at a time and there doesn't seem to be a preference for a specific account, all of them are plagued one at a time with the problem. Disabling the Yoga Mode Control service is a fix but that breaks the mode control which is essential in this laptop. I have tried installing all the available software on the Software page foor the YOGA 700. The rundll32 processes drain the battery very fast and I can't always log off other users when they have apps open!  I have posted a screenshot of process explorer showing 2 rundll32.exe processes using 25% cpu usage each. However, sometimes up to 4 rundll32.exe processes open up and they use combined 100% cpu usage, which makes the laptop run very hot and slow. In t... Read more

I had the an issue but with Yoga 530. First of all, the system simply hanging when I try to put it to sleep or shut down. I hunted down the cause and it seems the new audio driver causing it. I rolled back the audio driver to 6.0.1.8591 from 6.0.1.8703 and the system immediately started to work as desired. I used Lenovo Diagnostics Tool and checked Windows' inbuilt reliability monitor for more details and this helped me to track down what caused the problem. Unfortunately, Vantage software forced to update this driver so I had to switch off this function.

Hi, I recently purchased my new yoga laptop (Yoga 530-14ARR)  with AMD ryzen 5 2500U processor in it. I used it regularly for about 2 weeks, but notice some problem with it several days ago. Whenever I watch x265/HEVC videos with hardware encoding (I use MPC-HC), the video always freeze exactly at 45mins mark. Everything works fine for x264 or other type of encoding and I don't want to use software encoding because it won't cut it because of the quality of the video and it ends up choppy. After trying to search it online, I found some discussion on reddit about some people have the exact same problems with ryzen and several of them conclude that the problem lies within the driver, because when they update the driver to version 18 (they are on driver version 17 when they have the problem) the problem's gone. Unfortunately, AMD does not provide driver for ryzen 5 2500U directly. I can only get the driver through lenovo's site and it looks like how they label the version is different too. I did update all my driver yesterday with the new driver that came out at Sept. 26, but the video problem still exist. Is there anything more that I can do?

Two ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 TabletPCs will successfully boot into Windows 10 just fine from a hard poweroff.  But once in windows, if i choose Restart, it will hang at the "LENOVO" BIOS  level boot up logo with "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter".   Stuck at Lenovo BOOT BIOS initialization screen, right before handoff to the Operating System. "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" At this point, pressing ENTER does not work.CTRL-ALT+DEL causes the screen to change shade for a moment, but effectively does nothing.Changing the UEFI settings to diagnostics results in black screen.Holding the power switch to force a poweroff, waiting a few moments, and then powering on results in a successful windows startup.  DevMGMT.msc does NOT see bluetooth and there is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".  I have run all automatic updates via "Lenovo Vantage" and the manual TPM update.   I can boot into the firmware setup and have had it revert to factory defaults and reverted to factory defaults for all security settings.   I even tried the Win10 repair startup problems, but it says it cannot fix this.

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 does not Restart, requires hard power off. Stuck at Lenovo boot logo.

It looks to me like you have a faulty hardware issue or a serious driver issue. Try the Lenovo recovery to put the device back to the factory windows install. If that fails, I would think you have a hardware issue.

Hello everyone. I just had to come to the forums and post this text that I wrote to the survey Lenovo sent me after my initial service case: I sent my brand new Yoga C930 to be checked because of light bleed both bottoms corners of the screen. They received the laptop on January 2nd and on January 7th I asked what the situation was, they told me it was being prosessed. On January 14 I again sent a message to customer service asking for an update since I didn't get any updates unless I asked (which is really bad service). They replied that according to the service center there wasn't enough light bleed. They then sent the laptop back. So for a week the laptop was just laying somewhere at the service center and only after I asked about it did they send it back. When I got it back I noticed the service person had scratched the laptops hard metal hinge. So now I had light bleed and  a scratched laptop. He hadn't even used the protective sleeve I had put the laptop in (sleeve came with the laptop). Instead he had forcefully jammed the sleeve in the box and put the laptop in a random plastic bag... At that point the laptop had been gone for a month and now the only way to get a replacement metal hinge is to send it back to Germany AGAIN. I have no idea how long it will take this time, or even if it will be returned in any good condition. I can say I have lost all my trust in the Lenovo service center and I am disappointed that Lenovo does not have any service in... Read more

I have it on good authority that "santa" will be delivering a 530-14ARR to me tomorrow morning (Christmas morning), though there is still the possibility that I'll get coal instead if I fail to load the dishwasher or drink too much of the sherry my daughter will leave out for "santa"  I've been looking at the specs and the hardware maintenance manual and want to upgrade the 530 to suit my workflow (more memory, bigger SSD). I have the memory upgrade covered, but regarding SSD's, I was wondering if there is any point in going all-out for a Samsung Evo Pro 970 1TB M.2 NVME drive if the 530 cannot handle the 3,500 MB/S throughput (read). Is it a waste? Would I be better off just getting a crucial / kingston / Intel M.2 NVME drive with their 1800 MB/S read speed? As I don't know what chipset is used in the 530 I don't know what sort of throughput it will support or if it will pose a bottleneck to the Samsung 970s read speeds and I don't want to blow hundreds of pounds experimenting. So any input would be greatfully accepted! Cheers & Merry Christmas!

Since the 4 GB with 256 mb gone to the GPU isn't cutting it. But is an RAM upgrade going to solve my issues or is it something else? And has anybody else experienced this?   Regards,

Hi there, Please can anyone tell me where I can get an upgraded NVMe SSD drive for my Yoga 530-14AA? Weirdly Lenovo decided to put in a B+M M.2 slot into this laptop, so it appears I'm quite limited in terms of upgrades. It currently has a Toshiba (2242 size) 256gb NVMe drive, p/n:  KBG30ZMT256G I believe there is a larger Toshiba NVMe 512gb drive, which would be a direct replacement (and fit the 2242 screw hole), p/n: KBG30ZMT512G, but I can't see where I would be able to buy this from, it looks like OEM only - can it be purchased from Lenovo? My laptop has a cutout for the larger 2280 SSDs, but no fixing screw at this location - extremely frustrating, thanks Lenovo!  I could fairly easily fabricate some sort of fixing to hold the drive down, but I'm limited by the B+M slot that again, frustratingly, Lenovo decided to fit instead of the more upto date slot that Samsung uses for their 970 EVO and PRO NVMe drives Thanks in advance

I recently upgraded the RAM on my yoga 530 and noticed this issue soon after, but swapping the memory sticks back didn't fix the issue.  Whenever I close the lid and open it again, the display won't turn on. The powerlight remains on, so I end up having to hold the power button down to turn the system off and on again, rebooting the laptop. When I leave the lid closed for say an hour or more, the laptop completely shuts down by itself.  I've only set it to sleep, not hibernate or turn off. I've treid playing around with the power settings, resetting bios etc. All drivers are up to date. I'm really beginning to lose patience with this - is there anything else I can try or anything that'll definitely fix it. Hi everyone. I can see that people with other similar style Lenovo laptops (Yoga 900) complain about the same issue so was wondering if there is a solution or an optimized version of this software. I did an update of the BIOS and the Power Management driver and still a constant power usage.  Once the laptop is flipped the YMC detects it and turns off the keyboard functionality to prevent accidental presses and that is pretty much all until it flipped back and enabled. And all of this requires a constant high CPU usage? Any help would be highly appreciated. I also tried rolling back to older drivers without luck in decreasing this CPU hog usage. To put such load on a i5 6th gen CPU really implies an inferior service integration....

This caused me to worry about dust and hair getting behind the screen and possibly destroying it. The second one has the same problem as well as many others. The power button on the first one clicked when I pressed it, however with this one there is no click and I must hold the laptop and press the power button all with more strength than a person should have to just to get it to turn the laptop on. Also the trackpad comes above the right side of the laptop where the left side rests below. There is also a strange rattling coming from the plastic peices at the bottom of the screen. Many of the keys on the keyboard stick at random points when I'm typing causing the keys to not type. Also many of the lights behind the keys are either burned out or extremely dim, now I find it hard to believe that they burned out from my using the laptop since it is fairly new. Lastly there is sharp metal sticking out on the right side of the laptop that often scratches me when I put it into tablet mode. I can still use the laptop, but I feel like I have to be overly careful with it because of all these issues. It is as if this laptop was never checked for defects before it was sent to Best Buy.

I have the same problem as the one mentioned in this topic:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx/Ideapad-530S-14ARR-CPU-underclocks-at-0-... I have the YOGA 530-14ARR with the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U processor and the latest bios up to date 8MCN52WW. When the battery is below 21%, regardless of the power setting and if it is plugged in or not, the cpu constantly stays at 0.38 ghz, making the computer unusable. I have same problems on ubuntu 19.04 To solve this problem, you need to disconnect the charger from the laptop and connect again. It's annoying. Where can I find the previous bios to try to downgrade the bios?thank you

Hi there, I just updated to the latest bios for my 2500u Yoga 530-14ARR - version number: 8mcn46ww I was previously on a version like 8mcn28ww (or similar - I can't find this to download anywhere now) Since updating, the fan noise has become unbearable - for the first 15mins after booting into Windows it is so loud I have to turn the TV up - it's ridiculous.   This is the very thing it said it was supposed to fix, it's so bloody frustrating (and for the record my laptop was actually ok before the update, but I wanted the update for increased battery life) In the bios readme it says it fixes: BIOS Notification:
1. Fixed
1) Update AMD code to increase battery life time. EC Notification:
1. Fixed
1) Update fan table to fix fan noise issue. I have also had 2 complete lockups since this bios update (had to force shutdown), where I hadn't had a single one before - so I'm less than impressed with this crappy bios revision. Please can someone point me in the direction of the bios repository page for my laptop?  Or tell me where I can find my previous version so I can roll back?  I tried changing the version number in the download URL but could only find one version below (8mcn45ww) - since this isn't what I had before I didn't want to flash back to that just in case it did more harm.. Thanks in advance

Hello, I have recently bought this computer. I was attracted but its possibility to take notes with the pen. I was used to the Ipad pro that was fantastic but offered a little surface.Unfortunatly I am experiencing a weird behaviour by the active pen.1) after few seconds of writing, say 5 or 6, it stops to write. To let it to start again I need to switch color (this happen on Penbook app)2) sometimes the writing lag too much... there is a notably time difference between the actual pen position and the current written sign (happen with many apps)3) while I am writing, suddenly some widget/menu appear as if I pressed something else (happen with many apps). All this make frustating to use the pen and the related apps. I have even updated the Radeon driver with no result. Is there some setting that I can tune to improve the situation? Is this a screen issue? Is this a pen issue? Thanks,Luigi
