I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've bought an Apevia Explorer case recently and liked the way it looked.
It's pretty nice, for a steel case with a side window to look in. In the front you have placements for two fans here that isn't included(there's a flaw here; i'll tell it later), on the side windowed panel there's an airduct, on the top there's an 80mmfan (exhaust) and on the rear you can choose between 80mm or 120mm (which i prefer) fan. I'm using this case with my new and first(Cause i bought it for the first time for myself) mobo Asus M3A79-T.
I started things off pretty good, that is until it hit me that the temps on my cpu started to reach 60 degrees celcius. I just like things cooler then 50 degr celc. I already placed a 120mm in the rear from ThermalTake Thunderblade in the rear. In the front i placed apevia's stock 80mm fan that sat in the rear, so it can help cool the HDD. But there's a bit off a problem here as that 80mm has a problem pulling air through the case's steel grill and on top of that it has to pull air from the front bottom of the case and even the bottom of the case already touches the ground(no clearance). Oh and it even looks as if it works like a vacuum cleaner cause it collects a lot of dust.
I want to place a second fan from TT Thunderblade 80mm in the front. I won't be able to post pictures yet. After a day or two maybe. But i need some advise on what to do in the front please!!

A:Cooling problem with Apevia Explorer case

Which direction did you place the fans? Are all going into the PC? Is the top one blowing out? Is your power supply a single or a dual fan model?

I think I found your case on Newegg:

What I would likely start with, depending on the location of the case, is on the back 120mm pulling air in and only the 80 mm on top blowing air out. My PSUs are usually dual fan. If my case is in an area where it is close to a wall then I don't want the exhaust air being brought back into the case so I would have the 120mm on back blowing out and the 80 mm on top blowing out as well.

If it doesn't get as cool as you'd like I recommend you look at a different/better fan/heatsink for you CPU. I also saw once someone used some semi-thick plastic to create isolation pockets for the components. He realized that the heat from the video card should be isolated and ducted out without touching the CPU because it will heat the video card. I haven't found the link but it looked cool and and it was effective. I'll try to find it again later.

Good luck,

Hi all,
I am looking for a metal case router (wireless 802.11b with 4 port switch and at least NAT, but would like SPI, MAC and other security features if possible). Many of them are flimsy plastic and I want a better quality wireless router than that. Also some of them have a strong plastic odor that gives me a headache. Sure they will outgass in time, but I prefer not to breathe that if I can advoid it. Most product descriptions don't list what the case is made of. Any assistance is apprecated.

Alright I'll keep this nice and short.

I'm helping a friend upgrade his board due to his old one not supporting graphics cards at all despite having a pci-e slot. When his board finally came, we performed the replacement and stuck all wires in their appropriate places, and from there on when we turned on the computer there was absolutely no activity. The power indicator on the board lights up, but the led power indicator on back of the PSU turns off when the system is turned on. So from here I decided to place all bare minimum components on a table and try it out from there. And yes it turned on and everything, it was a success. From here we put the components back in testing out with the extreme bare minimum first, and yes it the problem occurs again. Here are my questions: Could it be the power supply? Or could it be the case itself? And on an additional note, this issue with the case also happens with the old board.

Thanks for looking at my thread.

A:Short circuitry with metal case?

I have a toshiba Satellite S70-B-10Z laptop.

I use the following external HDD enclosure.
The case uses AC to 12V DC adapter.
the external enclosure has not ground pin.

When I use it, I feel in the surface , static electricity, not a spark but something like friction.
The same feeling is on the metallic surface of my laptop, when the HDD case is plugged in through USB3 interface.

Has the laptop ground pin?
Laptop's AC adapter is Model: PA5181E-1AC3 part no.:PA-1121-60
Checking the adapter, I think that it's not grounded...as the adapter pin that is plugged in laptop looks like bipolar...

What's your suggestions?
Is there any danger for my laptop?

A:Electricity leakage in external HDD case and Satellite S70 metal surface

This is not danger for the notebook and the notebook usage.
Such symptoms can appear due to contact electricity.
As mentioned by other members, these happens due to the capacitive coupling in the power supply by insulated devices attached to the mains power.

You can solve this using an 3-pin ac adaptor.

Hi there,

So in XP one was able to select open windows from the taskbar via holding CTRL and left clicking on each one, then right clicking and tile / arrange vertically the selected windows...

In windows 7 I cant seem to do it automatically. Yes i can do it manually with three or more windows, but i shouldnt have to.

I cant get three or more windows to tile next to each other, i can only get two windows to go side by side via the snap feature.

Any ideas on how to get three or more windows side by side semi-automatically?

Perform a check disk:

Use the steps below:
Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer.
Right-click the drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.
Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check now. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select Automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will report problems but not fix them.
To perform a thorough check, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan attempts to find and repair physical errors on the drive itself, and it can take much longer to complete.
To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
Click Start.

Depending on the size of your drive, this might take several minutes. For best results, don't use your computer for any other tasks while it is checking for errors.

Update the .NET framework
Download and install the latest .NET Framework
Download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 from Official Microsoft Download Center

If still the error persists please provide us the error log:

Hello All. I?m after building a new PC using a Jeantech case, the case has two 120mm fans, and there is a space on the side of the case for an 80mm fan. There was a extendable funnel for the side fan. I have two questions. Should the side fan blow air out of the case or suck it in and should the funnel be extended fully down to the fan connected to the heatsink. If the side fan was to blow air into the case would it disrupt the heatsink fan.

A:Case Side Fan

You will want the side fan blowing in or you will get cold feet if the case is on the floor. The funnel should be used if you have a hotspot. And finally the side fan blowing in wont disrupt anything at all, it will pull in loads of air for The CPU fan. As an example, I have a custom case with 2 side fans blowing in, since i made this conversion my average temps have gone down a couple of degrees and im running the fans really slow from a fan speed controller. Just had a thought, the best thing to do with the funnel if you decide to fit it is to get it to blow air at the graphics card.

Hope this helps. Rik.

I bought an amd althon 3400 Cpu and its not cooling the way i want it. its probably the cheap retail heatsink.

I have the Antec Super LanBoy Case which is a good case with good airflow. It has 2 120mm fans. The front one blows in the case while the back one blows out.

I want to add another 120mm fan to the side of the case so air will both on the heatsink. How can I do that? Below are some case pictures.

A:I want to add a side fan to my case. How do i Do that

The easiest way to get a side blow hole is to get a bi-metal hole saw. They cut a nice round hole and are fairly easy to use. I have a 3" holesaw that I use for 80mm fans, it's just about the right size. A 120mm fan would need something like a 4.5"(not sure, measure your 120mm fan's blade diameter). A holesaw should cost about $20-30 dollars at Lowes/Home depot/etc. Then you drill holes for the fan mounts(4holes) of the right size.

Trying to reinstall XP Home on my PC. The old hard drive failed, and I am installing it on a new disk. Have all the disks that the guy in the store sold me, but there is no sticker on the side. There is no sticker in any of the manuals or boxes.
Can extract the CD Key from the CD itself or by any other way?

A:Reinstall XP: CD Key not on side of case.

The CD Keys for Windows aren't tied to individual CDs, so without any kind of documentation, it'll be impossible to recover the key unless you can boot to the old drive and use a key-extractor.

I can't remember the names of any of them off-hand, a quick Google-search would be enough I think. Be careful though, a lot of that kind of software can have hidden spyware, but if you're using your old disk then I shouldn't suppose you'd be too worried

i toook off the side case on my tower and i was wondering if it would be better if it left it on.. since i have a fan and it would make it better for cold air to stay in..

A:Is it better to have the case on the side of the tower on or off?

Im not exactly sure, i guess it depends on the computer setup. You can check with a temp monitoring software like speedfan and check temps with it off and with it on. Personally ive noticed lower temps with the case off when i had no case fans. But recently i got a power supply with 2 fans, and have added 4 case fans. Since ive created a strong airflow through my computer, taking the case off would disrupt that flow and make the case fans pretty much useless, i see lower temps with the case on and all 4 case fans going.

I have noticed that a computer that comes factory installed with Windows 7 doesn't use they product key on the side of the computer. Does that mean I could use that key on another computer? These factory installed copies of windows come with a volume activation key, they do not use the key on the side of the pc.

A:Product key on the side of computer case

No you can't use it on another machine, you would use that number if you had to re-install the OS for any reason, plus if it's an OEM copy it is tied to the machine it comes on and cannot be moved to another machine even if the machine it came on dies.

Hi, I have a Corsair 550D and was going to get a h100i because I didn't realize I could put the H110 radiator on the side panel and have it exhausting air.

So let's say that's what I do, I have the H110 rad on the side panel exhausting air. That leaves me with the rear fan, the two top fans, the two front fans and the bottom fan. What configuration would give the best cooling with the H110 rad on the side exhausting air?

A:How should I set up my case fans with a H110 rad on the side?

Well, mounting it on the side is an interesting choice but could work just fine. You have to remember though, hot air rises so you must keep that in mind when building your system.

If I was doing this, here is what I would do:

Front Fans Intake
Bottom fans Intake
Rear Fan Intake
Top fans Exhaust
Radiator Exhaust

That will keep a steady flow of cool air over your components. That in my opinion will be the best setup.

I've got a really strange problem.. My computer will randomly shut off or not turn on sometimes. Once it "short circuits" it won't turn on again for a while - sometimes an hour, sometimes all day. At first I thought it was overheating, but when I was messing around with it, I found that if I unplug the HDMI cable after it shuts off, and sometimes just touch the metal of the HDMI cable to the metal mount (not the actual port) of the HDMI port it will turn back on, but not all the way. The fans will start going, but if I then plug the HDMI cable back in, it doesn't show anything on my monitor.

Can anyone explain this strange behavior?

A:Metal on Metal Short Circuits?

Firstly did you bench test everything before installing into the case?

Are the standoffs in the correct place on the case and are you sure that no extra standoffs are under the motherboard causing it to short to the case?

Something is obviously shorting I would disassemble the machine and reassemble it paying attention to where you install the standoffs and for foreign objects that may have fallen behind the mobo. might be worth bench testing it first to figure out if anything in particular is causing the problem.

Your psu should grounds the case and motherboard so you want to ensure that your wall socket isn't damaged and has a working ground.

This means that I have to use the locking hole in the back (with a short bolt and wing nut) to hold that panel in place.  Of course, the handle (having nothing to slide out of the way of the hooks) will do nothing.
I know how to insert a new one; the problem is: I can't seem to find it online anywhere.

You're right to not want to mod your Xaser, I cut my friends window out larger with my dremel and I went through 2 HD discs on maybe 20 inches of metal

If you do decide to cut your own, just make alot of passes, like maybe 5 passes per cut. That or use a rotozip or a pneumatic

Are you referring to the black/gray colors of the Windows shell? If so, you'll have to change your Theme. If you should choose, for example, to select Windows Classic as your theme you will have many more color options (as well as font styles and sizes), however you won't have access to the transparency and Aero options. Why don't you experiment with the different Themes and Advanced options that are offered, until you find the combination that you like best?

A:window vista side bar is not working

Hi chinu and welcome to vista forums

First, right-click on the Sidebar icon in the system tray, and then choose Exit.
You should receive a message asking if you really want to close, which you do.
Next you’ll want to check Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) to make sure that there are no sidebar.exe processes running that shouldn’t be. If there is, just right-click and use End Process.

Open up windows explorer and then paste the following into the location bar:
%localappdata%\microsoft\Windows Sidebar
This will open up the Sidebar gadgets folder, where you should see a file named Settings.ini, you’ll want to rename this file to something else, or backup the file elsewhere and delete the original in that folder. This file contains your current sidebar configuration.
Now once you re-launch Sidebar from the Start Menu, you’ll notice that a new Settings.ini is created and your sidebar should be back to normal (unless you have a virus).

So basicly the title says it I have my cooler master 431 case w/o the side window and ive been wanting to add some more fans to it I was wondering how much would if benefit if I added 3 more side fans 120mm as in cooler temperatures for my pc?

mainly I want to add these to the case will I benefit from them at all?

or with the led probably

and another question I have my cpu which is oced to 4.0 and the temps arent that hot as I never rly go that intesive unless im playing cpu bound games like gw2 in the heavy parts on wvw I was wondering if there was a good air cooler for my intel i5-3570k it currently runs on 4.0 but I wish to push it abit more

could u list some good air coolers on the 50 euro margin?

the hyper 212 evo is in my mind but will it be enough?

A:Cooler Master 431 w/o Side window Cooling

That is a good cooler, but I personally like at your budget range the Thermaltake CLP0575 Frio http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106178

But either will do you fine for 4.0ghz on a 3570k

As for more airflow, adding more fans can help, but make sure to just focus on having a good overall flow through the case which will be a huge benefit in general.

I have been tying to change the Background color on Photoviewer (in Windows 7), and for this application window only. I have tried the combinations in Windows Color and Appearance but to no avail. I tried the various window color options but none changed this particular window. It is NOT the color cast I wish to change. I want to change the color of the window behind and to the side of the picture displayed. it currently is a pale pale blue. I would like to change it to a dark gray or Black.

Or is this possible. Thanks

A:change color of window behind and to side of picture

Did you ever find out?

Hi everyone,

Just curious if anyone knows of a good mod guide, or has even done a 500R window mod. I mean replacing the mesh and putting in a window. If you could guide me towards something decent I would appreciate that.

is there a way those of us who aren't yet on 20"+ LCDs and can barely waste so much as 5 pixels on superfluous spacing are able to reduce this wasted space between the border and the files? (the way it's possible to economize space elsewhere: to use a smaller taskbar; smaller icons; to change the grid alignment and icon spacing on the desktop, etc.)

A:20 pixel chasm between left side of window and its files

do you mean this yawning monster 'chasm' in windows explorer?

it's a very useful space if you want to right-click and add a new folder, or paste etc.

Hello BleepingComputer community,

I thought I could fix this on my own, but I need expert help. At first, MalwareBytes identified a "Trojan.lameshield" infection, which it removed. I also ran McAfee and removed a "generic" trojan. Then, the popups started appearing, no matter which site I would visit, showing up at times on the bottom left, others on the bottom right of the screen. I noticed the name "ad.yieldmanager" by hovering on the popups. These popups happen both in Normal Windows mode as well as Safe mode.

After reading some of the forum posts, I downloaded "Rkill" and ran it from Windows Safe mode. Every time I execute Rkill it logs the following message:

* ALERT: ZEROACCESS rootkit symptoms found!

* HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1}\InprocServer32 [ZA Reg Hijack]

* C:\Users\I804129\AppData\Local\{66d01091-30b0-d091-7070-ea6fe4297d6c}\U\ [ZA Dir]

Since then, I have ran MalwareBytes in full mode, TDSSKiller, SuperAntiSpyware, SpyBot S&D, and cleaned the Temp directory with TFC (TempFileCleaner by OldTimer). Every time, I get a clean result, nothing found, but the popups continue. So I... Read more

Mod Edit: Moved to "Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs" forum ~~boopme
Your site was reccommended to me by another site, maybe you gurus can help me. I found another post(http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/469656/constant-adyieldmanager-popups-on-left-or-right-side-of-window/)  with almost the exact same issue that I'm having, and I did what that post said:
Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Delete.
Confirm each time with Ok.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
Download & SAVE to your Desktop RogueKiller or from here
Quit all programs that you may have started.

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure which Windows update caused this, but ever since that download, whenever I close a window, the little blue disc keeps turning until the window DOES finally close. (Hope you understand what I'm saying.) This happens after closing EACH window, ALL the time.

Essentially, it takes a few extra secs for the closed window to really close. It's irritating/frustrating because I don't know how to fix it. I've put as much of my comp's info in my profile as I know or could find. Have been working with comps for six or so years. Not a total dummy, help alot of friends , and always reaching to learn more.

Have never seen this problem anywhere or it would be fixed by now, lol Can't STAND the waiting it causes til I can move onto something else.

Any suggestions?? PLEASE???

CompInfo: Vista Ultimate, IE8--See Profile for more.

I thank you for your time.

A:Closing a window causes little blue disc to turn til window finally DOES close

Lets try two steps to see if we can fix the problem
Assuming that you are using IE go to>tools>internet options>advanced>resest and see if that helps.
Second try with clean boot to see if some software is behind the problem
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
If it works follow the instructions to find the precise cause
