USB - Enhanced USB Host Controller Not working - Drivers!!!

Q: USB - Enhanced USB Host Controller Not working - Drivers!!!

I have been working on this on/off all weekend and I STILL cannot get my USB 2.0 ports to work again and they were all working fine for the past 10 months. All 8 USB ports stopped working in 2.0 mode last week. They work perfectly fine in 1.1 mode using the standard Host Controller (BIOS is set for 1.1+2.0) when I disable the enhanced host controller.

My drivers are apparently screwed and I have done mostly everything suggested in various web sites to revive them (they had to be overwritten!).

My mobo doesn't have any updated chipset drivers (nVidia) and I simply reloaded my XP drivers to no avail.

Outside of the obvious/common troubleshooting, any one have any thoughts on this issue? I believe an update killed my ports!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I clicked on Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers. Five members of the Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) were listed. One of the five was described as a USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC.

My PC has 3 USB ports. How can I determine which is the Enhanced port?
What if I plugged a USB Hub into a port other than the enhanced one, would it work better or not at all?

A:How to determine an enhanced USB Host Controller

That is not one of the ports. It is a controller. The enhanced controller is used on all the USB ports. I believe that is the USB3 controller. So you don't have 1 enhanced port, but rather 1 enhanced controller being used by all ports

Every usb flash drive which works at other computers cannot be recognized unless [Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC] is disabled at [Device Manager].
Even though usb flash drives work by disabling it, the speed has become too slow in usb 1.1 mode.
Is there any way to use usb flash drives without disabling Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC?

A couple days ago I added a second SATA2 hard drive to my computer. When I turned it back on, the USB ports did not work. When I go into Device Manager, my Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller has an error. When I go into properties, it tells me it cannot start. Since it recognizes the device, I am assuming it has power, but simply does not have the software/driver to start it. If this is the case, how can I install the proper driver? I cannot connect to the internet because I use a wireless connection, which utilizes my USB ports, which do not work. Thus I cannot have Windows find the correct driver for me.

Any ideas?

I'm using Windows XP pro with an Intel MB (not sure which model...i tried to get the model using aida32 but it did not give me the name, only a long string of numbers and dashes. I also searched Intel for something that looked like mine, but was not sure which it was. All i know is that it has 2 mem slots and 4 SATA ports with one IDE port open after my DVD-RW drive) and an Intel P4 3.20GHz processor.

I'm shortly after doing service pack 1 cleanup, having the following problem:

USB devices are not recognized, are not working at full speed, or are being newly installed.
Looking to devmgr I found there are many USB devices having the ! icon over it, moreover I believe that the culprit of all this mess is this driver

Standard Enhanced Pci To Usb Host Controller

not running at startup.
Don't know why and how is that related to SP cleanup procedures, however after removing this device and several new hw rescans I get as this controller as other USB devices recognized and probably working properly.

Any help how to force this controller be running at startup so that all USB devices are identified properly?

Standard Enhanced Pci To Usb Host Controller
Driver version: 6.1.7601.17514
Driver timestamp: 21.6.2006

I've made proof that if I restore drive to state before SP cleanup, all USB devices are started flawlessly.
I think this is related record in event log for this problem:

EventID: 219
Source: Kernel-PnP
Failed to load driver \Driver\usbehci for device PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AA6&SUBSYS_1CF71043&REV_B1\3&267a616a&0&21.

If I try to open this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AA6&SUBSYS_1CF71043&REV_B1\3&267a 616a&0&21\Properties

I get error message: access denied

Maybe the problem?

I also have this problem - it occured after the Windows Update(s):Update for Microsoft Windows (KB976902)*

I have tried various methods to solve this issue based on other searches, but nothing appears to be working. Any information regarding this issue would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone this is my first post, this issue arose about a week ago when i was trying to get a memory card reader to function at full speed.

I decided to uninstall all USB controllers from my device manager and restart the computer, when it came back on it installed the SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller, i now have two SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller in device manager and a few usb hubs, but i cannot get back the SiS 7002 USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller. I was running windows XP SP3 but have reverted back to SP2 in attempt to have the drivers reload. No success yet.

In the BIOS, USB 2.0 Host Controller is disabled because when i enable it i have no functioning usb ports on my PC, i am guessing becuase there is driver for it. I have tried downloading a number of USB 2.0 drivers but i keep getting the message that i cannot install them because i am not using XP SP1.

I am racking my brains on what i can do aside from a format, attached is my Everest information, i hope someone can help me correct this issue.

I recently installed windows 7 x86 and when it was done I realised that my usb mouse and no other usb device would work, poking around I found out that disabling VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller in the device manager allowed USB devices to work. Also usb devices are detected as USB1.1 (USB2 options are enabled in BIOS).
Its probably a driver issue but its been hard to find the right one, maybe its just not fully supported in windows 7.

Now for the details, this motherboard I bought cheap online as a slight upgraded. It was advertised as a GA-K8 VM. Here is the CPU-Z info: http://i.imgur.com/M9jqmtX.png

Now getting this sorted out isn't that big of a issue but be nice being able to transfer thing to usb at decent speeds, and to get this issue out of my head some reason I feel like having the host controller disabled is bad.

I'm trying to get my Linksys AE2500 USB wireless adapter to work with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and an Intel DP55WB motherboard. I've narrowed down the problem but can't find a solution. If I disable the second USB Enhanced host controller in device manager the adapter will work and I can go online. However if I restart or shutdown my computer the problem starts all over again. I've installed all the windows updates and have the latest driver from Linksys. I've attached two pics of before and after screenshots of the device manager.

Your mobo should have come with a disc that will have a whole bunch of drivers on it, it should include the drivers for your USB controller. Install this into Windows so Windows will recognize it as a USB 2.0 port.

I have a set of HP Z210 Workstations with E3-1245-V2 Xeon Cpu's, SSD boot drives and varying sizes of memory from 8-16GB 1600Mghz DDR3 ECC. We use Windows 8 Enterprise for these machines, with Hyper-V enabled.
We get regular driver failures from the 2 sets of USB controllers on the machines (Mainly and issue for the KB & Mouse) that can only be resolved with a full power down (not restart) and a power up. This happens at least once every 1-3 days per machine.
I had gone through the HP support, but they have advised this isn't an issue on their side, and I had agreed all along. I was just hoping to get some traction by notifying them. Anyway, after a lengthy trouble shooting session, we found that once Hyper-V
was enabled, the fault arose.
As it was an Intel chip, they I asked them. They advised that on Windows 8, the drivers are supplied via windows update and that it was not their issue.
So, how can I get this resolved? Not through HP or Intel, surely through MS? Maybe not. Disabling Hyper-V is not desired as I the teams with these PC's are developers and require local visualization. Also, we have templates ready for Hyper-V, I don't really
want to remove Hyper-V and use Virtual box or VMWare workstation. but I am at wits end with the fault and lack of help from the vendors.
Please help.

A:Hyper-V causes Intel(R) Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller driver to fail

I have found a work around for this fault with the USB failure - ENSURE YOU POWER  THE MACHINE OFF - DO NOT RESTART.

I strongly believe the drivers that Lenovo have on its System Update server for the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller for Win 7 32 bit OS for the models of T430s and X230 are the wrong ones or they are corrupted.  Five times now after I have completed my base corporate image the USB 3.0 ports will be working correctly.  If I install the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller drivers from System Update for Win 7 32bit I will get a stop error and after the restart the USB 3.0 ports will stop working.  I have tested this on two X230 laptops and a T430s.  Same results across the board.   I doubt I?m the only one who has reported this issue. Any way Lenovo can confirm is they are seeing the same issue? Thanks

I've been working on a laptop that had some viruses and corrupted system files. I cleaned the computer out and performed a windows repair to correct the problems.

Everything worked and installed fine except for the USB host controller drivers. These are drivers that should install with Windows XP and are already available. When I attempt to reinstall them via device manager, I receive an access denied after it tries to copy over the file. The filename I see before getting this error is USBHUB20.SYS.

I believe that there are some registry entries that may have been affected by the previous viruses that are causing this problem. The user I am logged in as does have admin rights. This machine is running Windows XP Home.

Any ideas on what this registry key might be or whats going on here? Thanks.

A:Access denied when installing USB host controller drivers

After just doing a repair install and not knowing anything about the make and model of computer or system specs I would recommend installing the special drivers for chipset, buss, audio, video etc and you can get these drivers from the drivers disk that came with the computer or the manufacturer of the computer or motherboard web site download them burn to CD-R and run them.

I had three USB devices to connect to two ports. I bought a Stratitec four port USB hub. Somewhere along the trek I must have removed the controller in Device Manager. Go to your device manager and check your usb controllers for one that is "enhanced". If it isn't there, update your driver. Did you get a disk with the pci card? You may need to disable your old ports until you install the 2.0 and then enable again.

I have two USB ports which recently stopped working.  They are both located on the left side of the notebook. There are two ports on the right side which are operational. The two non-working ports have power can I can use them for charging a device (phone, etc.). However, they do not recognize any USB device. No Errors are emitted but no devices show up either. Device manager reported a controller as having a problem. I unistalled the device (Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller) and then ran a scan for hardware changes. The scan did not detect the controller. I have a feeling this is a hardware failure of the motherboard but am hopeful there may be another solution. Device Manager also reports a problem with USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller  Thanks,John

Recently got Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller (PCI Express Card), first tried and it was cool with ~60-80MB/s transfer rate.

However, soon after I restarted the computer, the PCI card no longer works - cannot detect any usb device connected . Having said that, device manager does not show any unrecognized device .

When I connected the mouse to the USB port of the PCI card, it lights up, but no any response.

Could anyone give a hand on this issue? Thanks.

Hi. First, im on a Lenovo Y510p Laptop. Yesterday, windows updated through windows update and when i logged into my computer, none of my usb ports were working. As in: My external mouse and keyboard were not connecting, they were working just before the update though.(they are new.) Device manager said there was an error with some driver so i tried to update, it said it was where it needed to be, so i uninstalled it, restarted the computer and it was fixed. Now, USB ports still not working, i have an error with this driver:

USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller
Under device status, it says:
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
The specified image file did not have the correct format, it did not have an initial MZ.

Im not sure what other information i should give so here is some stuff that may help:

When i press update driver it says that it is running the latest driver.
Obviously, this driver is under Universal serial bus controllers in device manager.
I use the laptop for mostly gaming.
My mouse and keyboard WERE working before the update the same night.
Any more info that could help just let me know, thanks so much.

Hi All!

I'm new here, so I'm guessing as to which forum this should go in. Please forgive if I've put it in the wrong place!

I'm having some issues with my desktop computer. Over the past few months it's been running slower and slower, especially online and especially when streaming graphics are concerned. Webkinz runs rediculously slow, and movies on youtube are pretty much unwatchable.

There was also this odd problem of the computer not being able to properly boot from "off". It would run through the RAM test and identify the various hardware (disk drives, CD ROM, DVD, etc) and then freeze indicating that I needed to insert a boot disk (or something like that). I'd then give it a CTRL ALT DEL and it would run through the startup just fine. I'm sorry that I can't remember the exact error message, but the problem seems to have disappeared after the below actions were completed.

I started trying to fix things by clearing room on my harddrive. I'm not much of a computer tech, but I figured a fuller harddrive might cause some issues. I got rid of all my music and video files and backed up all my photos and deleted them. I also removed everything "superfluous" that I could find (e.g. RealPlayer, Java, Adobe, etc). There was no effect.

I use an ATI Radeon 9800 video card, so I thought maybe if I reinstalled, or at least updated the drivers, that might help. I use Omega drivers. There was no increase in performance.

Greetings! I'm currently working on reinstalling win on my cousin's y580 with following specs:Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz8GB RAMGEFORCE GTX 660M Everything went smoothly until the part where I want to install USB 3.0 drivers (responsible for 2x3.0 USB and 2.0 USB port). I tried everything from installing win7 drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling them with Windows Update to forcing INTEL drivers intalation. So far no luck. Browsing the forum I happened to find the topic: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/USB-3-0-Ports-Not-Working-Y580/m-p/3457050#M149... , where the guy assumes that motherboard is broken cause he bought it with "broken USB ports". That is not the case, ports were working just fine on win8 until the moment win10 was introduced. In the device manager the driver shows the error 10. I also came for advice to my friend using the same notebook with better specs(i7) and they are working fine for him. So my question finally is: have anyone solved this problem for the given spec already and/or is it the case of the 64bit system(not fully supported with those specs)? I am frankly out of ideas rn. Cheers, Hubert

I've T420s, Ricoh PICe SDXC/MMC Host Controller, and several SD cards. Right away I can say that the cards (Kingston, Samsung, Transcend) are all right, tried them on different computer and phone, they work well, so I assume this is not a card issue. I never used Card reader extensively, so I can't say if it started lately or was always like that, my T420s is about 1 year old and I'm running Windows 7 32bit. Here is the problem. Device seems to be switching on and off all the time when the card is inserted or taken out. I can say this as I'm keeping device manager window open. It seems like the connection between card reader and motherboard (?) is very bad, as I have to press on the device to pop out and press it back in to appear in the list of devices. When I plug in the card, it might actually show up, but then, when I pop out the card and pop it back it, it won't show again. So I have to take out the device itself again to have a chance of accessing my card. I've tried updating the driver from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014960 But it  didn't help. I've seen this: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/SD-Card-reader-not-working-Code-22-ThinkPad... But even if the device appears under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, there is no "Ricoh SD Disk Device" under "Disk Drives" most of the times when I insert cards. Anyone had similar issues?

Hi, answer42
I would make sure that the BIOS is up to date. If the BIOS is not up to date, the motherboard may not be fully recognizing when a card is present in the port. The latest BIOS for your machine is 1.35, and you can find that here. So definitely make sure the BIOS is up to date and see if that helps the issue.
Hope it helps,

I have recently built myself an AMD Phenon II x6 based computer with an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard. The mobo features two USB3 ports and 12 USB2 ports. However... the Device Manager lists the USB controllers as:

+ NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller
+ NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Root Hub
+ Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Controller
+ Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Controller
+ Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Controller
+ Standard OpenHCD USB Host controller

+ Standard OpenHCD USB Host controller
+ Standard OpenHCD USB Host controller
+ USB Root Hub

And this is with no devices attached.

What are all those USB1.1 (OpenHCD) controllers doing there? There are not supposed to be any USB1.1 ports on the mobo.

I was trying to hook up a Lexmark All-In-One printer to my Windows XP (service pack 2) Dell computer. I disabled my anti-virus and anti-spyware as well as disconnect my printer and external hard drive so there would be no conflicts.

While installing the Lexmark software and drivers, I kept getting a bubble that it didn't recognize the USB device.

According to Lexmark's own Knowledgebase, one should "Disable the USB Enhanced (USB 2.0) Controller" in the Device Manager when you get this message. I followed the instructions exactly and now my mouse and keyboard are completely disabled and I am unable to log in to my computer. I get as far as the screen where you choose the account you want to log into.

How do I reconnect the USB Enhanced Controller and regain control of my mouse and keyboard?

A:How to reconnect a USB Enhanced Controller?

Download and reinstall the chipset for that motherboard, or computer system. USB is usually part of the chipset install. Also, inspect all other drivers available for that computer, or those components. Or you may have them all on a supplemental disk, unless you have a home built.
You can look at the Device Driver within hardware, in system, and get a list of all drivers that System thinks are not installed... then install each one over again.
Be sure to update the BIOS if that choice is available.
The Lexmarks are sensitive to the way you install the printer. Uninstall it using a registry editor to get rid of all history of the previous install. Then cold boot to reinstall the drivers once more. Do NOT connect the printer to the USB cable until told to do so, or until after the drivers have been installed, then connect the USB cable before you reboot. If not defective, the computer will detect the printer after all components are installed upon a reboot.

This is driving me insane. I've got a new hard-drive today, so i've installed windows on it. The only problem is, my sound card won't work with this hard-drive. I've tried putting the old hard-drive back in and it works when i do that, but i can't seem to get it to work with the new one. I've installed drivers a couple of times, installed and uninstalled the sound card and it still won't work. In device manager it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" but i can't work out why it won't work. I've got a driver from Microsoft Update, from the motherboard website, everywhere, can anyone figure out what's causing the problem or what i can do that i haven't already tried to fix it?

A:VIA AC97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM)

Have you tried this driver: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1010&SubCatID=104

Make sure to use the Installation utility supplied with the driver to install the driver rather then using the Windows wizard.

Hello All,

I was trying to get my digital camera to work.. for some reason Windows is not finding it and assigning it a drive. So I was going to delete all of my USB ports and reinstall them. Well I deleted my Enhanced 2.0 port and now Windows is telling me that it can't find the driver for it!
I have used the Windows CD and it still wont work! I am at a total stand still. I dont know what to do!
If anyone at all has any ideas about the USB problem or the camera problem, please don't be a stranger!

Thanks a bunch,

I reinstalled W7 home premium 32bit on my Asus k53u laptop. Installation went good, but i cant find wireless connection. When i try to install there is not option for wireless connection , its like my laptop never heard off wireless. But when i unplug internet cable from my router and put in my computer internet works. Im pretty sure that my router works , cause i have 2 other laptops , asus and toshiba and they have internet from router. A:Wireless not working , missing network controller drivers!

Can you cannot to internet wired instead of wireless?
Open device manager. Any exclamation marks/unknown devices there?

Give me the hardware id's of devices without driver. Just doubleclick on them and click on "Details" tab. expand properties->Hardware-id

My laptop is from Toshiba, model L650 PSK1JA OK3017. Here's Toshiba's driver page for my device:

Support :: Toshiba :: Computers, Laptops/Notebooks, Tablets, Televisions, DVD and Blu-Ray Players, Camcorders, Storage, Accessories, and more

I recently purchased a blank hard drive along with a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I've installed all drivers listed on the page for a 64 bit system but when I try to install the "Intel Wireless LAN Driver (For Intel Model Only)" driver or Proset driver, the driver extraction begins, ends, but when the setup is meant to run, nothing happens. I've redownloaded it and attempted to install it twice to no avail.

Basically, I cannot connect to the internet and Windows cannot detect my network adapter.

If anyone can help me figure out what I need to install to get my network adapters to install, that'd be great. I can't call Toshiba support because their operating hours are when I'm at school.

Occasionally, when I try running the driver I mentioned before and the extraction is complete, when I select "No" as to whether I want to run the file, Windows gives me the error: "Archive Extractor -- Error occured in system module [-135]".

I still have my old, working hard drive, which I replaced because it was slow. Is it possible to grab the network drivers from that and transfer it to my new hard drive? I can use this hard drive to help you guys help me.

Anyone know the answer to the above question? It would be on an older Intel 955 chipset MB, 32-bit XP Pro, 2GB, Pentium D 900 series 2.8GHz.

Would setting the MB Bios to SATA, AHCI, "F6" SATA Driver installation when installing WinXP, etc. vs. just leaving it at "Enhanced IDE" make any real-world day to day performance difference?

Just curious.

A:Vertex Drive - Is It Worth It To Install SATA drivers or just go with IDE Enhanced?

I'm not sure, default value is probably the right value. The vertex drive has a lot of speed IDE interface is not enough, you must have a physical SATA2, if that is even part of this.

When I plugged in my wifi adapter in the usb slot I got the message saying I had a high speed device in a non high speed usb port. This left me a little puzzled since this is a fairly new mobo [Dfi LanParty nf4]. It recommended me getting a High Speed USB 2.0 host controller, so I checked my mobos disk and it had nothing under USB so I'm out of luck. The adapter says its running at 54mbps, so is there no problem?

A:Usb 2.0 host controller?

Is your windows XP SP2, if it isn't you need to update it to SP2. If it is SP2 go to My Computer, then view system information, then hardware, then device manager, then click the + next to Universal serial bus controllers, then uninstall all USB controllers, then restart. Once you start up in windows XP and plug in your Wifi card it will search for USB controllers, if any boxes come up just press next and let windows scan and install the drivers( USB drivers come with SP2, you dont need a CD). This should solve the problem.
