Windows 7 won't save my Server Access Credentials!

Q: Windows 7 won't save my Server Access Credentials!

I'm not sure if this belongs under "Windows 7" or "Networking," but since the only aspect that has changed is Windows 7, I'll post this here....
I just bought a new laptop at work - a Lenovo T430 with Windows 7. This is replacing my older Dell laptop than ran Windows XP. We have a company server and I configured my new computer the same way I did the old Dell so that I could access our network printer and server.
The printers work fine, however I have one problem accessing our server. When I access the server, after my computer has been turned off, it again asks me for my user name and password. Once I enter those, my server access is just fine.....I can go in and out of the server at will until I power down my computer. At that point if I turn the computer back on, it will again prompt me for my user name and credentials. I click on the "remember by credentials" box and that doesn't help.
I went into the Credentials Manager and tried entering my information under a generic credential for the server and that didn't make any difference either.
This is more of an annoyance than anything else, but it would be nice to not be annoyed with my new laptop and have it operate in the same way as the old Dell did in this regard. (In the Dell with WIndows XP, I was never asked for my server access name and password after I first configfured it.)
I figure that this has got to be some weird Windows 7 thing, and I am hoping that i just need to turn off or turn on a box somewhere to get Win 7 to remember my credentials!
Any direction or help would be most appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 won't save my Server Access Credentials!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I have an odd situation happening and I think perhaps I need to revisit the methodology I am using.
Scenario
Windows 7 Professional Laptop joined to Domain
Domain - Server 2008 R2 AD
Cached Credentials GPO applied to Laptop OU set to 50.
Policy is being applied properly to Laptop.
User logs in while connected to domain - no issues.
After about a week of being away from the office he now gets a "Cannot login because no Domain Controller is found".  This user claims that there is no way he has logged on 50 times since it was last in office.  If he brings laptop back
to office, attaches to network, gets another week before this issue appears again.  This causes much grief since the user has a desktop PC that he uses when in the office and these laptops are designed to be used when away from the office.
Now I have read multiple different articles on the forum and other sites.  There seems to be a disagreement on the GPO setting and its usage.  Some posts indicate that this GPO is for the # of users that get cached while other posts indicate that
this GPO is for the number of logins while away from the network.

Which one is it # of users or # of logins? Is there a suggested method to allow a user to have MORE than 50 login attempts while away from the office?
Is there a way to reset this "count" back to zero after connecting to the domain/Is there a way to check what the current count is on the cached login... Read more

A:Windows 7 Pro, Server 2008 R2, Cached Credentials

To answer your questions:
1. Which one is it # of users or # of logins?
You must mean “cached credential”. The number of the cached credential can be defined via group policy.
Interactive logon: Number of previous logons to cache (in case domain controller is not available)
It can be defined between 0 and 50.
2.Is there a suggested method to allow a user to have MORE than 50 login attempts while away from the office?
It is not related to cached credentials. The user account has one cached credential whatever how many times he has logged on. The policy for account login attempt limitation is:
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Account Policies\Account Lockout Policy\Account lockout threshold
3.Is there a way to reset this "count" back to zero after connecting to the domain/Is there a way to check what the current count is on the cached logins?
The policy is:
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Account Policies\Account Lockout Policy\Reset account lockout counter after
4.Would it be easier to remove these laptops from the domain and have local users with the same password and use pass through authentication?
No need to exit domain. A local user can still log on although the laptop is a domain member.
Interestingly enough, the user has access to the network via a Cisco VPN.  When attached to that VPN from a hotel/airport/public hotspot the user cannot connect to the "domain controller... Read more

Hey guys!
I really need your help. I have been working an a radio station of mine for the past year or so, creating websites, applications and the like. The station is due to be launched in a week or so and right at the last moment something has gone wrong!
Im at my wits end and I really dont know why it isnt working, heres the details:
Im broadcasting on port 8001 which I have forwarded in my NETGEAR router to 192.168.1.2 (the computer with the server running on it)
It was working about 2 days ago perfectly, but then all of a sudden it has stopped! The port is still accessable (checked using port forwarding tool) and I can access my router configuration page from outside my LAN too. I have tried a DMZ to my server on my LAN too, and even tried different servers with no luck! No firewalls enabled, nothing! I have even tried different ports too..

I just cannot access the stream of audio from my server- neither can anyone else!

Please, any help AT ALL would be most appreciated. I have probably missed something small but bear in mind it WAS working 2 days ago!

Please save my station! No one here can figure out what the hells going on!

Thank you in advance!

We have a number of users where, when they change their network password, their Outlook will start prompting for the username and password.  This will happen every day until credential manager is cleared out. Then things go back to normal, until the
user has to change their password again.  It seems that once this problem happens this user will always have this problem.  The users are frustrated and is very vocal about how IT can't seem to fix the problem.  Any idea how to fix this permanently?
Articles I have read say this is a known issue and there isn't a fix.  Office 2013 is the version.

I have a windows 10 home computer with a Netgear Stora NAS. The PC is connected to my router via Wi-Fi whilst the NAS is via Ethernet cable. I am running McAfee Security Centre rather than Windows defender/Firewall. After every restart of my PC, the NAS
is no longer visible on the Network. If I then use a shortcut to the NAS I have pined in file explorer, a pop up appears asking for me to re-enter the password for the NAS. Once I have done this and checked the box to remember the credentials, the NAS reappears
and I can open the folders within it. However, as soon as I restart the PC, the same recurring problem arises. I have tried changing the ip address of the NAS to static on my BT Home Hub 6 but the problem persists. In credentials manager, the username and
password for the NAS are correct every time I check.
Can any one help? Is this a problem inherent to Windows 10 Credentials manager, a problem with the mixed Wi-Fi/Ethernet network, a firewall issue or something even more left field I haven't even considered?
Many thanks

I know this has been discussed elsewhere because I've tried just about every "fix" I can find.  The NAS access problem started on our network around September/October 2016 with a security update from Microsoft.  The problem child for
me is currently bundled under update KB4012215.
I've been uninstalling windows updates to keep access to the NAS, but frankly I'm getting a little sick of that process as I have to do it every day I need the drive.  I can see, and ping, the NAS, but access to the shared folder is denied with the
appropriate login credentials.  The credentials are simply kicked back and access is denied.  This did not happen prior to the windows update.

Our IT contractor cannot figure the problem out either, frankly I feel like I know as much as the guy I'm talking too, which is why I'm trying to solve the problem on my own.

Last week, I got a request from a few users if it is possible to make IE prompt to save user credentials when the users logged into a website.

I did some testing on my local machine with the following browsers:

-IE 11, I got prompted by IE whether I want to save my user credentials
-Google Chrome, the same thing as IE 11 which worked as expected
I then shifted over to the production environment where IE 10 is being used and I did not get prompted if I wanted to save any credentials.
So that leads me to believe that IE 10 could be misconfigured or should be configured in an other way.

Is it possible to force prompts from IE 10 to be shown to the users?
Note: IE 10 will soon be updated to IE 11 or Edge when we migrate to 2012 R2, so it is also possible to wait untill the migration has been completed.

I'm using Windows XP Professional with SP3. I'm trying to configure Remote Desktop Connection so I can connect to a remote computer without entering my logon credentials every time. However, there is no option in Remote Desktop Connection which allows me to do that. There is a checkbox labeled "Always ask for credentials", but when that box is unchecked, the "User Name" box is disabled and I'm forced to log in with the same account I'm using on the client.

Searching the web (and this forum) I've found that many people have similar problems, but I haven't found the solution.

Note that I have another computer with Remote Desktop Connection 6.0. On that computer, everything works great; I can save my credentials and log in to the exact same remote computer easily.

Good morning to you all,

I've bought a new HP notebook with Windows Vista business edition and I have faced a problem, which is not exactly critical but it will be good if I can fix it.

Here is the situation. We have running active directory over a Server 2003. I'm a domain member and I'd joined the notebook onto the domain. The first two months everything was just fine, but since the past week, when I try to log on Vista says the following :
You cannot log on, because the Credential Management Server doesn't work properly or it is not installed on the target server. (this is not the exact text but it is with the same meaning).

After that I need to click on the log on Wizard button and I to mark the 'Do not use Credential Management Server' option.

What I need is to turn off this Credential Management, because on the domain controler there is no CMS installed and this is just freaking me out. Can someone help me with this?
I have read some articles but I couldn't find anything useful about my problem.

Thanks in advance

c. Right click on "System", with the same method, save it as "sys".

Hi,
We're seeing a strange behaviour were cached credentials are overwritten but the entry picked is not the oldest entry available, but the next one in the list.

See attached. The oldest entry is from James_R, dated March 04 2015. When I logged in a new user (on the right hand side - Kris_M) I was expecting James' cached credentials to be removed. I can confirm this is the expected behaviour as I tried it on a fresh
windows image, different domain. However, Windows decided to replace entry number 0, of Rebecca.

We're seeing this with more than just one computer in the domain.
Has anyone came across this so far?

NT W/S 4.0 w/sp6a, upgrade install of IE 5.5 over possibly bad install of IE 5.0. We're running IIS 5 on W2K with MS Proxy 2. Services on the IIS server are set to challenge-response security.

Affected IE clients do not appear to be passing NTLM credentials to the IIS server, thus they are unable to access the proxy services. Intranet zone security settings and proxy configuration is set the same as on functional installations. The log files on the IIS server do not even show that the affected clients attempted to connect, much less any authentication failure. The Proxy server is set to fail-over to the internet connection. Users whose clients are not working properly receive an authentication dialog from the Radius server on our firewall.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing these IE clients to either not attempt or fail to authenticate with the IIS server?

Hi All,
We've had a reference build for Windows 7 to capture up and running for years, no problems. We've not changed anything I can think of in this build for a good while. We generate a new baseline image every few months, installing all the latest patches in
it so it's patched before being installed in production. For years all so far so good!
Since the last time we did it, we're now getting it failing to install the apps (all hosted on a share on the same server as the deployment share), it quickly became obvious that the issue is when we're trying to connect to the server that hosts the deployment
and app shares we're now being prompted for credentials which we didn't used to.
To make it more interesting we look after another infrastructure, and the Windows 7 reference build there is still fine...
Any ideas?
Thanks

When I rebooted, I received the normal windows logon screen, user name & password, entered those and logged in. The problem being, all resources on the network required me to enter network credentials. For example, try and double click on file server get following 'Windows Security' window:
Enter network credentials. Enter your credentials to connect to: SERVER.
The system cannot contact a domain controller to service the authentication request. Please try again later

I have: unjoined and rejoined client to domain; Checked active directory and the computer is correctly registered. Nothing is helping. Please help.

According to Paul Thurrott you need to add the credentials by going into the Windows vault per method #2 in the link below. If you don't add the credentials to the vault then Windows won't remember them despite checking the box to remember credentials.

He is using Windows server 08 and Homegroups with Windows 8 and he shows both methods to access network shares on the server.

No comment about the link I posed here>???

By the way I know this is solved, hoping you can come back to confirm this.

Hello,

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to Access file server on Windows Server 2000

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

home\Josh

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

Environment: Win7 SP1, Domain Controller/File Sever w/Server 2012 R2, Office 365

I have 3 workstations at a client site with this issue (2x Office 2016, 1x Office 2010).  It started with one PC, then a second started having the issue a month or so later, followed by a third after a few more months.  At this time, there are 5 other PCs on site that are working fine.  For the affected PCs, as long as you're logged in, there is no password prompt.  If you log out & log back in (or restart and log back in), there is no password prompt.  If you turn off the PC, turn it back on and log in immediately, there is no password prompt.  It's only if the PC is on while you're logged out for 20-30 min.  Then you will be prompted the next time you log in.  I don't see anything in Event Viewer that would indicate why this is happening.

Client logs out each night and in each morning and thus is prompted to sign into OneDrive and Outlook.  I've tried deleting all credentials from Credentials Manager, creating new Outlook profiles, running Outlook in safe mode, flushing/reregistering DNS, creating new Windows profiles, repairing/reinstalling Office, sfc, even a couple registry edits I found online, checked for viruses/malware, I've changed O365 passwords and Windows account passwords, I even completely reinstalled Windows on the first PC and the problem still occurs.  (some of these steps don't make sense because it was before ... A:Credentials Manager deletes all credentials if logged out for 30 minutes

Well you basically done what i would have done so far but what autodiscover address are you using, i would make sure its country specific.
Pinging autodiscover should reply with your DNS entry, also did the company ever have exchange on the domain? If so i would clean up in ADSI Edit.

I guess you have tried using Cache on & off in outlook? Make sure there is no GPO which deletes credentials after 30minutes.
Are you also using ADSync to syn credentials to O365?

Hi!

On my desktop PC, I have two administrator accounts, Admin1 and Admin2. The latter corresponds to the main account on my laptop, on which also Admin1 account exists, of course with the same passwords on both machines in the same homegroup.
I have turned the pass-protected sharing option on but I can't access pass-protected folders, which were set to be shared, on the desktop PC.
I can see them on my laptop but when I double click on one of them I keep getting told I don't have access.

How could I solve the problem?

A:Not asked for credentials when trying to access pass-protected folders in Win 7

I am trying to access a page on a website and I am getting a message stating "Access is denied due to invalid credentials." When I search Google about this message all the "answers" to this problem discuss something called iis and application pools which I know absolutely nothing about. I am simply clicking on a web page and this comes up. It is a tax preparation site and I do live abroad, but I have used the site before over several years abroad. Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance.

A:Access denied due to invalid credentials message at a website

Is it just 1 site? If so, its broke.

Same thing with "save page as" I tried shortcuts ctrl -s nothing happens either. another example would be in adobe flash pro, I select "save as" or "load file" in the file option, nothing happens either. another example is also while accessing forums, emails, or any site that requires loading files- take for examle this forum, Below the posting box is a browse button in the attachments- if I click that nothing happens, no windows pops up. I cant upload anything. Its very hard to pinpoint the exact problem because not all programs have it. Adobe photoshop works fine. Autodesk Maya works fine too. I do not know if its related but at the same time, Internet explorer and Windows media player stopped working entirely and when I install anti-virus programs this shows up: cocreateinstance failed 0x80040154 class not registered also in yahoo messenger news box if i try to click a link, it says catastrophic error. in utorrent if I right click a torrent and select "open containing folder" an error shows "class not registered" again I dont know if it is related in any way to the problem or a whole ot... Every time I sign into my windows 8 account at home it never automatically connects to it. I tried following the tutorial at http://www.jmu.edu/computing/desktop...s-Windows8.pdf. However when I get up to the part where you are support to right click on the wifi connection to access view connection properties I am unable to. Right clicking on the wireless connection does absolutely nothing. I even tried clicking on it and holding and still nothing. When I go to the network and sharing center and click on the wireless connection it pops up a dialogue called wi-fi status. However there is no button for wireless properties. I remember in windows 7 there use to be a tab where you change the key encryption type and there was a check box where you can save the password. Essentially I can't access the dialog box in page 10 of the above link. I have spent numerous hours trying to figure this out. Any help greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 8 cannot access wireless properties or save pw.

It sounds like your version of Windows 8 is missing something or maybe just some files are missing, hard to say why this problem would occur.

You might try running the sfc/scannow command to see if there are any missing files.

Hi All,

urgent help require. recently i am facing big issue that my server auto restart itself. When i check the Event show as below:

Event ID:1005
Source: Save Dump
Description: unable to produce minidump file from the full dump file

Event ID: 1001
Source: 1001
Source: Save Dump
Description: the computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was 0x00000027 (0xb550d76c, 0xb550d468, 0xb550d468, 0x8846165e). A dump was saved in C:windows\memory.dmp

Please advise and hope able to provide me a better solution to avoid my server restart itself again.

Thank You.

A:Windows Server 2003 auto restart - Event ID 1005 / 1001 (Source Save Dump)

Without seeing the minidumps this is your error per auhma.org:

0x00000027: RDR_FILE_SYSTEM
This is a rare and fairly obscure error condition. Memory management issues can be one cause, and adding additional RAM commonly will resolve this version of the problem.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on my laptop.  I have a Fedora Core 7 server running SaMBa.  They share a /28 subnet (with 0, 6, and 7 taken by networking, 1 - 4 on the server, 5 on the laptop).

The server has multiple SaMBa shares (for this example, \\myserver\share1 and \\myserver\share2).  There are two SaMBA users, user1 and user2, each either their own passwords.  user1 can access \\myserver\share1 and user2 can access \\myserver\share2 .  I log on to the Vista laptop using a separate user/pass from either of those two accounts.

When I attempt to connect to these shares, I can do so without a problem if I connect to them singly using "connect using different user name".  However, if I attempt to connect to both simultaneously, I get:

"System error 1219 has occurred.

Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed.  Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again."

I need to be able to connect to both shares simultaneously, but using the different credentials (I don't want user1 creating files in \\myserver\share2 and I don't want user2 creating files in \\myserver\share1).

I have tried manually using NET USE and I get the same error when I try to map the second drive after the first is mounted. I have also messed with regedit and changed \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\... Read more

Hi Everyone,

I have a 64bit machine currently running Win 7 64bit. Unfortunately, a client I work for has a 32bit server which I cannot access from my 64bit installation.

A few questions here really:

1. If I install a 32bit version of windows 7 on a partitioned part of my HD and dual boot will this mean that my machine runs in 32bit mode allowing me to access the 32bit server?

2. If so, can I then run the 32bit installation through virtualbox (or similar) and get the same result?

3. Is there a more simpler mechanism to solve this issue that I have overlooked?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There should be absolutely no problem accessing 32bit. How are you accessing it?

I can ping the windows server 2008 machine.
Here is what I tried to solve this issue:
1. Disabling firewall on both machines.
2. File and Printer Sharing and Client
for Microsoft Networks is checked.
3. Server service and TCP//IP
NetBIOS Helper service and Computer Browser
are enabled and running.
4. Network Discovery is enabled.
5. NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled.
6. Everyone group is added to "Access this computer from the network" policy.
How can I solve this issue?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yesterday I began to have a combination of errors that have effectively shut down my use of my desktop computer.

First noticed it when trying to run a video in WMV. I got the error "server execution failure".

So I opened google chrome to google this error. Chrome would not open. Got the same result. "Server execution failure".

Thought I'd try restoring my pc. PC will not allow me into that procedure from windows. Error is "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Went into windows fix it (I have limited internet access using IE) and tried to run it on WMV, just to see what happens. Error message when the software tries to run: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

This has been the result every step of the way. I get one of the two error messages above.

Some things still run, however. Software that still runs:
spybot
vlc (video player)

I have little computing expertise. Any advice on what's wrong and how I can fix it? Remember I get those errors when I try to run many programs. Thank you!
