T420s won't turn on using ON button but will turn on if I push and hold down arrow button

Q: T420s won't turn on using ON button but will turn on if I push and hold down arrow button

This just started happening. My T420s won't turn on using ON button -- it blinks a bit but nothing happens -- but it will turn on if I push and hold down the down-arrow button. The only problem is I have to keep holding the down-arrow button down. As soon as I lift off the down-arrow button it crashes. Wierd I know. Any ideas? I mainly want to use this laptop in the expansion tray with an external monitor so I am thinking of trying to put a pad on the down arrow button that a closed top will hold down but this is a bit of a kluge...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: T420s won't turn on using ON button but will turn on if I push and hold down arrow button

OK ... first I gotta know .... what made you try holding down the down-arrow key? Does the T420s have the "paper clip reset" hole on the bottom? This is the procedure for an X1: https://is.wfu.edu/help-articles/hard-reset-for-lenovo-x1-carbon/ My T440s and T480 both have the hole....the hole is not in the same place on all the machines of course, but you get the idea.Or maybe you already tried this trick?

I have to hit the reset button every time I turn my computer on. After i hit the reset button everything comes up just fine. But every morning when i get up I turn the power to my computer on and it has a blank screen the two DVD drives blink and the hdd led stays lit up bright. but then when i hit the reset button it comes up just like normal. can anyone tell me why this is? It's not affecting anything that I can tell just annoying. I do not have to go into BIOS and change anything after this occurs. Windows starts just like normal and there does not seem to be any thing else wrong with my pc.

Thanks for the help guys this site is the best!

hi, I have a pavilion dv6-615nr which is about 5 years old. WiFi button worked well until couple of months ago and now it works as it wishes. Now it is always orange and though I press it won't change. Sometimes it changes into blue but it happens rarely and it stays only few minutes. Again it turns orange. The WiFi card is Intel Centrino Wireless- N 1000.Sometimes this doesn't show up in the network adapter(device manager) and sometimes with a caution mark. When I troubleshoot it says they fix it. but button is still orange and WiFi doesn't work at all. Please tell me what should I do. It's really giving me a headache.Thank you in advance.

A:WiFi button won't turn on

Hi: If the wireless card is intemittently disappearing completely from the device manager, perhaps the connection from the card to the slot it plugs into, has become oxidized. I would try removing and firmly reseating the wireless card.  If you can leave the antennas attached when doing that, it will save you the hassle of having to reattach those tiny antennas. Check the maintenance and service guide (chapter 4, pp 67-68) for your notebook, for how to remove and replace the wireless card. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842252 Always remove the battery and unplug the notebook from A/C power when working inside of it. Then I would install a newer driver for that model card directly from Intel...the 2nd one down on the left is for W7 x64. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23491/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windo...

Hello,

We have a vendor provided web application that uses I.E. as the browser. Occasionally, the customer will choose the <Back> button in I.E., in error. Doing this can leave the current record incomplete, and unaccessable because ownership was not assigned to it.

Does any one know if there is a way to have the web application disable the <Back> button in I.E.?

Thank you in advance for any assistance, knowledge, etc. given to me regarding this matter.

Regards, and have a GREAT day!!!!

A:[resolved] How Can I Turn Off The <Back> Button?

I do not know of a way to turn off or remove the forward or back button in IE. However, if you go to View, Toolbars, and uncheck Standard Buttons, you loose the forward and backward buttons, along with other items that may be necessary. You may be able to make a custom toolbar with some of the items that are missing? Look at Customize in the bottom of the drop box.

It appears in Mozilla Firefox you can take away just the back button by dragging it from the toolbar. You might try and see if you can use Firefox with your application.

Hi, I came home today and when I pressed the power button to turn on my latop, nothing happened. I pressed it multiple times, with and without some force, as well as held the button down. It still didn't turn on. I tried it with the battery in and without the battery but plugged into the charger and outlet, but nothing happened. I'm not sure if it's that the battery drained and the charger died and that my laptop has no power. Right now my laptop is plugged into the outlet with the battery in and the light next to the power insert on the laptop is unlit. Something of note that happened yesterday was that my laptop randomly shutdown and restarted a few times actually. I wasn't sure what happened, but it was fine afterwards and it said the laptop was charged. I'm thinking these two issues are related, but I don't know what happened. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Ok, so I also made a video explaining my problem and doing some tests on it.  I've also attached a profile of all my computer's specs in the attached PDF form.  You can view the video at this link:https://goo.gl/photos/VrvjcAJy5beRt4B38For some reason, all of a sudden out of the blue, the red LED light of my Microphone mute button will not turn off.  No matter how much I press it, it doesn't go away.  It's really annoying.  In addition the button doesn't work.  I'm fine with the button not working as I've trained myself to not rely on those things anyways.  I really just want the light to go away.  It's very distracting.  The light stays on even in BIOS and the button is not doing anything. Thanks

I am a handicap veteran who has no use of my arms or hands. I have a working HP  envy laptop. This may sound crazy, but, I was wondering if there was a way to be able to turn on my laptop without having to have someone else  press the power button. My power button is not broken. It works just fine. I would just like to be able to turn on my  laptop all by myself. I have been searching the Internet for solutions to this question. All I have found, is basically how to fix a broken power button. I was just wondering if this is a possibility. I currently have a head tracking system as well as Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Both have allowed me to do everything on my  laptop with the exception of powering   it on. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.  William Kochevar

Suddenly I am having a new issue, as I have been dealing with several after reinstalling Windows XP and all of my programs. Now I am seeing a button pop open at startup at the bottom next to START and the Quick Launch, as if it is a program that is open or is opening. But it isn't open or opening. It is related to my Maxtor OneTouch II usb drive and it just says OneTouch on the button. If I open Maxtor OneTouch in All Programs, another button pops down there that is named Maxtor OneTouch. But nothing ever happens with this new erroneous button that shows up. It never opens anything visible and it never goes away. In fact, there is no way to make it go away. Also, nothing displays if it is right-clicked. If I hover over the button, a little display pops up that also says OneTouch.

A:program button at startup won't turn off

Oops! Solved! I solved this by turning on the power to the OneTouch and restarting my pc. I had turned off the drive's power so it couldn't mess up my saved backups that I still need to restore. So now I am going to turn it back off until I am able to Restore.

My son's computer wouldn't shut down, it would close down the OS but the computer lights and HD would still be running. I did a scan, Ccleaner with its registry fix, and degfrag.. that made it work maybe twice. Now it is doing it again.
It refuses to turn off even with the power button (it shuts off then starts again, on its own - I am NOT pressing the "restart"). I have to unplug it from the wall to make it stop re-starting itself.
Any ideas?

Hi, Try the following. Download the Conexant HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp77501-78000/sp77502.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Conexant device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72025.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Conexant installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hey guys! Newcomer here!

Need serious help with my 4 months old PC which I built myself.

It has been working fine, until recently. Basically, the PC would not turn on after clicking the Power button on the Case. Initially, it required 4-5 clicks, before it turned on. After couple of days, more clicks. Then now, it just does not turn on with Button clicks.

In order to Boot it, I have to Turn Off and On the PSU switch, couple of times, and it triggers something and PC comes on. When it is on, it is all stable, no issues at all. I can use it 12-15 hours, and not a single crash or power surge.

I read on many other forums regarding the issue and tried couple of solutions:

1. Tried switching the connections on the motherboard, between Power and Reset button, to see if the SWITCH is the problem. No result, so switch of the case is fine.

2. Tried removing the motherboard battery and back in, didn't help.

3. Unplugged custom lighting LED molex connector, still no result.
PC Components are:

Seagate 4TB green

EVGA Supernova 850G (850 watt Gold) PSU.
I built the PC June, 2016 - in United Kingdom. Now I moved to Turkey. And problem started here, however I haven't used the PC enough in UK anyways, so I'm not sure if Wall Socket power voltage is the issue, UK being 240v and turkey has 220v, according to googl... Read more

I bought a new motherboard , however I do not have the DELL office , and I'm not managing to find pins to connect the motherboard manually , would help it. model GX620. [Via google translator]

A:How turn on gx620 without power button

Dell doesn't provide info on the pin connections between the motherboard and front panel. So that makes it difficult to use a non-Dell case.
You'll either have to map the pins yourself, see if somebody else has or can get that info for you, or just buy a gx620 Dell case and the corresponding front panel cable.

Hi all!

English isn't my mother tongue so please be patience with any language mistakes.

My laptop's (HP G7000 Notebook PC) wireless button isn't working. It has been, but now it's just red. I checked to see if there's any problem in Device Manager and of course it was. This is how it looks right now:

I've been trying to download and install the right drivers but somehow it's not working. Maybe I didn't find the correct ones. I even downloaded the program Astra32 to get as much details on the hardware I could but I'm lost.

How can I solve this?

Just got the notebook for my daughter for Christmas and this just happened:  I was trying to run the recommended HP updates and it said "installing" for a long time.  Meanwhile, I opened up Chrome and it locked up saying "not responding".  So I stopped the install action to see if it would help but to no avail.  Then I tried Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to the task manager but nothing.  Tried that several times.  I was finally able to get task manager open by right-clicking the task bar below.  Once in task manager I couldn't end task on Chrome.  Then I couldn't shut it down by holding the power button.  I was finally able to shut it down from the start menu.  Now the power light is on but notebook won't turn on.  I tried everthing I could find online so far with no luck.  The HP Support link was a dead link.  The only thing I am doing at the moment is trying to wear down the battery.  I've got a USB light plugged in and it is on.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any solutions??  Thanks!

Hi everyone, I bought the brand new HP Pavilion X2 from Costco few months ago, and I think i dont like the power button at all, and I find it really difficult for me to turn the tablet on even though it was being charged or not. Sometimes, it works perfectly, sometime I get failed after several attempts of pressing and holding down the power button, but no signal light occurs. I did search the problem and I think it comes from the manufacture, and one of the solution I have seen is to bring it to the store and exchange, but I bought it in Costco, Can I bring it to Costco and ask for that service ? What should I do now ?  Thanks.Nghia Huynh

Sorry for reposting thread. I hope this doesn't ruin my reputation as a person. My other thread was named incorrectly, therefore not getting as much notice. Sorry about that.
Anways....
Okay, this is I did something really dumb. Yesterday I was changing the thermal paste in my laptop for the cpu and when I was taking out the palm rest, I forgot to open the flabs to release the ribbons and I stripped the ribbons badly and also the part where the ribbons plug in on the motherboard. The little tiny metal pieces on the place where the power ribbon plugs in are all bent. I can't turn on my laptop on and I really want to be gaming right now lol Is there anyway I can fix this? Please anybody, please help me. If you guys need me to attach pictures to this post I will. Thanks! Right now I'm on my other computer Btw.
