Help - email sending out viruses!

Q: Help - email sending out viruses!

Hello. I hope someone can help me! This morning my personal e-mail is sending e-mails out all by itself! I have had 72 mailer deamons up to this point saying that the email could not be sent. I have had several people that I know call and say they are receiving email from me, but I have not been home to send any! My virus protection is not picking up a virus. I use Windows XP Pro. Can anyone help me?

Preferred Solution: Help - email sending out viruses!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Help - email sending out viruses!

Hit the report button and ask to be moved to the Malware removal forum and be patient as they are quite busy.

Until then, log in on another computer and change your password for your email.

I use Outlook for email, from Office 2007 Professional because the accounting program and my Palm Pro PDA likes it.

Just recently I have had a couple of complaints that emails with a video attached I have forwarded have been delivered to the addressee in excess of 30 or 40 times.

The latest was last night when one of my sons said he had received it 104 times, and another friend in the USA 99 times, needless to say both aren't happy, the video was a wmv (3mb).

When my son called me a an hour or so later it was still in my outgoing mail box, obviously because it was still sending.

I have run full AV scan using Esset Nod32 which came up clean, so I’m at a loss where else the problem is or where/what to look for.

Thanks for reading…..Any clues/help would be appreciated.

Intermittently, Outlook 2007 will crash while sending an email and, needless to say, the email is not sent. However I wanted to know if there is a temp or backup copy of that mail anywhere. I've looked in drafts and it's not there.

I've sometimes typed a very long email and then lost the whole email when Outlook crashes so I just wanted to know if, like Word, there is a temp file that may be created.

Hi cp, welcome to TSG. Do you have Autosave enabled for Outlook? If not, perhaps this link will help.

i have been trying to fix my email/outlook spam issue.  emails are going out WITH my actual email address, sending emails to people in my contacts, etc.
I also have been getting a ton of spam emails myself.
I use:
-Windows 7 Pro
-64 Bit
-Outlook 2010
-I have our own domain name email address, that is hosted by Frontier
Odd thing:  I changed my password for my email, but my outlook kept sending/receiving with the old password.
When I tried to update  the new password in outlook (which I verified by using the webmail versus outlook), it would not accept it.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi. I keep getting e-mails from various people/companys that i have never e-mailed saying i have sent them an e-mail with a virus in it. The viruses are different. Some are the Klez worm some are klem. I have Norton Internet Security 2004 w/updated virus definitions on my puter and have done a full system scan several times and does not pick up anything. I am running W98SE and outlook express e-mail client. Does anyone know what is going on? I would appreciate any advise/help. THanks, JoAnna

A:Getting e-mails saying i am sending viruses

I have had a few of those on Win98 with Juno email. I think it means some kind of spyware/scumware has gotten the use of my email address. Anti-virus, even Norton doesn't get everything that's out there anymore. If you do not have "Hijackthis!", you may want to download it and post a file on this site. someone will tell you hhow and what to delete. I have gotten great help from the experts here.

Any ideas?

Hi, a few days ago I noticed I had sent myself an E-Mail that I hadn't sent entitled "No Subject" and opened it to see a link which I clicked and the page had been previously reported for malware. There is nothing in my Sent Items Folder. Also one of my contacts has recently closed there E-Mail account so I received a failure notice on that and there was a different link in there, this has happened almost everyday since and obviously I don't want my contacts to think that I am some "Dirty Virus Writer". Does anyone know of a way to turn off the email address in the BCC section of Vista email and show only the names? In XP Windows Express, it only showed the names with a semi-colon between names. I've just gotten my new computer (Vista 64 bit) set up with email contacts. When I send BCCs, it lists the name and the email addresses which makes that section very long.

Hi, What i have done to aleviate this problem is when adding contacts to the address book, i have listed a display name. So when sending an email it will only display what you have listed. You can edit the contact in address book by selecting the person, right click, properties, it then will enable you to edit this.

Hope this helped

Hi, and welcome to the board.

- First, set Windows 98 to display three-letter file extensions: Open My Computer, choose View, Folder Options and click the View tab. Deselect the checkmark next to "Hide file extensions for known filetypes." Click OK.

- Click Start, Run, type sendto, and click OK. Windows will open a window titled SendTo.

- Right-click in the SendTo window and select New, Text Document.
Rename the file to Mail Recipient.MAPIMail (copy this exactly).
Close the SendTo window.

Good luck,

Public Sub Email()

Dim iMsg As Object
Dim iConf As Object
Dim WBname As String
Set iMsg = CreateObject("CDO.Message")
Set iConf = CreateObject("CDO.Configuration")

With iMsg
Set .Configuration = iConf

.CC = ""
.BCC = ""
.From = """test"" <[email protected]>"
.Subject = "test"
.TextBody = "message"
.AddAttachment ""
End With

End Sub
The only major difference that is obvious, is the email at the office requires SPA where as my home network does not. Any thoughts Would be great!

This is just a way of preventing/blocking spam or other intrusive email by creating rules in your email client.Sometimes the rules can be pretty strict and they may not know just how strict they set them.They probably didnt do it on purpose.

Hi there

what email client are you using on both systems, also remember network connections and are you running from SAME computer.

Linux networking in general is superior to Windows but if you are using a decent email client it shouldn't make a huge amount of difference.

Other factors -- what "pre-scans" etc are done by the email client (virus / attachment checking etc), are both set up to use imap / pop3 or going through an Ms Exchange server. Loads of things you need to compare when doing this type of analysis.

Any webmail based client is likely to be hideously slow though when compared with a proper email client on whatever system.

I am having a problem sending email to an AOL address via outlook 2002. I can send to the address using my webmail portal and my yahoo, but not through my outlook. all other emails go out properly.

any ideas?

A:sending email to AOL

Hi, AOL email never did work with Outlook Express, I am not sure about Microsoft Outlook that comes with Office, if that is the Outlook you are meaning....

AOL users could not send mail nor get mail through OE, at least back a few years ago they could not, and if AOL was the service provider....there were some utilities that claimed to circumvent this, but I have not used them, and it seemed difficult to install and set these up, I did not bother with it at all.
(Things might be different with AOL mail these days.)
If you typed up a new mail in OE, and tried to send it, you would get an error message...of course, since there usually would have not been any account set up for POP3 mail in or out, no servers to connect to, and since AOL used different types of mail service, no way to get mail into OE.

Getting a Gmail account, free, might be a quicker solution, Gmail is simply great.

You should check out this: Description of Google's Gmail, how it works, privacy, etc...

And also> , take a look at this, it may be the easiest way to do it>

You do still I think have to be invited to Gmail, so if you know someone who has it, they should have invitations to spare...if you want to try it, let us know, I have invitations.

Hi again chasf.
Most ISP limit the size of an attachment to 5mb but your link with your server will normally time out way before you reach this.

Any suggestions? I get emails like that all the time but can't figure out how to send one.....

Thanks in advance. CR$

Hello CalRed, You should be able to copy & paste the url from your browser and paste it to your cursor blink on the email you are sending.
There is also an option if you right click on the IE browser & select customise then add or remove commands you will find a send link by email option you can add to IE browser
As far as shortening the url i think you can right click on it and select Rename i think this works? you can only try

I am having a problem with outgoing emails. It is taking people up to a day to receive mail from me, seems to mainly be to other outlook accounts. I have done tests with people on AOL and Yahoo and those seem to come through within a few minutes, still not as fast as it was.
I am hoping someone can help me resolve this issue.

I doubt that it's a problem with Outlook or Outlook Express...it's much more likely to be a problem with your ISP. You should call their tech support and ask why there is a delay in delivery.

Hi there. I am wondering about the security of sending pictures via email. Example: I have a camera dock and upload pictures from my digital camera into my email and send them to friends. Are the pictures flying around in cyber space. Actually I send pictures of my grandchildren and family and wonder how safe it is to do that. I understand that pictures only come through cyber space, I hope this is the correct term, in number form and not just as a picture and that the only way they can be viewed by another person is if they are stored on a server. I am not really that worried but am curious more than anything. I am no where close to being a computer geek so please tell me in plain english. lol I was in the Air Force several years ago and did punch cards for the huge mainframe computer and I have a desk top PC for email and news but that is it for my huge experience. Thank you for your time. Barbara

A:Sending pictures via email

don't worry about SENDING pictures, only worry about receiving email with an attachment that has an executable file. But if you have an Internet Security program, Virus and Spam checking program that is often updated and have the firewall up, you should be ok.
Reading through the Security forums here will help you to learn a lot and to know what to watch out for.

Right click on your picture & save it.

Then to e-mail it bring up new message, click insert, file attachment, choose the file you have just saved.

This will insert the file into your e-mail.

Emails without attachments send immediately, however, those with (very small) attachments or images simply sit in the outbox of Microsoft Outlook 2002 SP3. The one I'm trying to send now has 2 images and the total size of the email is 85KB. I run XP with AVG. Thank you.

I have a system at work, which has been identified as sending spam email. I have run Norton Antivirus, MalwareByte, and SuperAntispyware. After removing some viruses, I thought the system was clean. But yesterday I got a notification from AT&T that the system is still sending spam. I noticed on this system an error in the event viewer about too many tcpip connections being opened. I downloaded and ran combofix, but that is as far as I got. I would like to upload a log to see if anyone can assist me in resolving this issue. My problem now is that once I ran combofix, I cannot restore my network connections. I have tried to repair the connection, reinstall the hardware, reset the winsock, but nothing works. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A:PC is sending spam email

You have know experienced why we warn users against using ComboFix without guidance. Please see the note in blue at the top of this forum. Our best solution is to post a DDS log in the HJT forum. You may have to move the program to you computer and the log from your computer via flash drive, but the team will help as best they can. They may also ask for the combofix log, but do not post it until asked. Trust me here, they are the experts.Please follow this guide from step (6). Post a HJT log to the HJT forum and a Team member will be along to help you as soon as possible. You may wish to post a link back to this topic to see what was discussed thus far. If you need any help with the guide, please let me know.

On two occasions my computer has sent emails from my hotmail account to my entire address book. The emails occured about 1 week apart. These emails contain a subject line with an unfarmilar random name (at least to me). One of the names I have seen repeated is nadine belmant. In the body is a link to a website to buy viagra and other crap. Scans with AVG and Spybot have come up with no issues reported. I do not have any other error messages or alerts from windows. Hello anyone that can help. I have an HP laptop with XP and it was just swiped recently by an ATT tech because I had a virus problem and use ATTUverse. He save what needed alright, but a day later I couldn't send email. I can receive it just not send it or reply to anyone. We went in and checked and unchecked boxes and he still can't fix it. I use outlook express as default. My work email is different and is in Yahoo, but I can check that here, too, but it won't let me send either. the error that comes up is
'Connection to server has failed. Account: 'Home' , Server: 'smtp. att.yahoo.com,' Protocol: SMTP, Port 25, Secure (SSL): No Socket Error: 10060 Error Number 0x800cccoe.
That's it. Everything else seems to be ok at this point. I just can't send or reply to email.
Thank you for any help to fix this.
