Compatible RAM For Notebook Upgrade

Q: Compatible RAM For Notebook Upgrade

Hi Good day, I bought an HP Notebook 15-ba047cl and I need to upgrade the RAM, but there's a few issues. So the laptop comes with two slots, one is being used with an 8GB SODIMM. I want to expand the RAM to 16GB and also enable dual-channel mode, but the stick of RAM in my laptop seems to not only be quite rare, but very expensive. The RAM currently installed in my laptop is: Manufacturer HynixManufacturer Reference HMA81GS6AFR8N-UHCapacity 8GBName PC4-19200Short Form 8GB(1Rx8)Type 260PinConstruction Type SO-DIMMModel SO-DIMMOrganization 1Gx64Description DDR4 2400MHzNumber of Ranks 1Extension unbufferedError Correction non-ECCDRAM Organization 1Gx8Number of DRAM 8Construction Type of DRAM FBGA(78ball)Type Height 31.25mmVoltage 1,2V I've read HP's documents extensively and they insist I use RAM from the same manufacturer and model number in order to enable dual-channel mode (though I know full well this isn't always needed), but this particlar brand and model is severely problematic to get a hold of. As for my question, I was wondering whether or not I should purchase an entirely new set of 2 8GB sticks, and which ones you would recommend for this laptop, or if there was some way for you guys to assist me in getting just one other stick of RAM from another manufacturer that would work and enable dual-channel mode. I can't seem to find much people, if any at all, mentioning this laptop, and when I try to use the offline hardware scanners and memory finders of RAM manufacturers like Crucial and Patriot, they tell me they currently have no RAM compatible with my laptop. Side Note: Crucial's offline scanner says they don't have any RAM compatible with my laptop, but when I use the online search on their website by typing in my laptop model, they show RAM modules that are compatible with my HP Notebook 15-ba047cl. They seem to fit the bill as well, being PC4-19200, Single Ranked, 2400Mhz, 260 pin, 1.2v, non-ECC, unbuffered, etc. They seem to match up with the Hynix RAM in my laptop but I'm afraid to purchase it, and also left confused by the whole thing and why HP would choose such a hard-to-find module for a laptop. Please help me, I need the extra 8GB for running multiple VMs and to help my GPU access all of it's shared 4.25GB VRAM when needed, when I play games that use a lot of RAM and VRAM.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello! All 2.5 inch SSDs should fit your laptop if you are replacing just the 750GB unit. You may need to use a special adaptor to secure the SSD depending on what thickness it is, but rest assured, most SSD manufacturers include these.

Can I use a laptop HD that was in a MAC in a PC machine? Or can I use a HD that was purchased from a MAC retailer in a PC machine?

A:Are Notebook HD compatible MAC-PC?

A 2.5in disk is just that. It is only the "fdisk" and format that make it PC or Mac, and even then it is the software that reads it that makes the difference. It is even possible to get drivers that will access a Mac formatted disc in a PC without re-fdisk and format.

I am planning to upgrade the existing 2GB to 8GB RAM for my laptop hp-14-r233tu. I did purchase a matched spec of 4GB RAM but the laptop won't boot up so I swapped with another RAM that I took from my another laptop which is completely fine but it still not working and  i assumed that this laptop is a bit choosy on RAM.    I searched on the internet and looked for the compatible RAM for this laptop and I found this  http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP---Compaq/hp-14-r233tu But I'm not able to find the specific model Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM CT6989962 to buy, and found something similiar to that, Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM (CT102464BF160B) since I will buy it online, I'm not sure if  CT102464BF160B is going to work with the laptop and the seller asked me to refer to HP so I need help on this. Thanks.

Good dayI would like to install a 4TB harddisk on my laptop (as the 2nd harddisk), and I understand my BIOS has to be UEFI.Seems the motherboard is an HP 159B 91.37 / F.1C.My serial number is CNF1230N1L, and the product number is LS583EA#UUZCould you please tell me if this motherboard is UEFI compatible, and if yes, what would be the steps to change to UEFI.If not, do I have any alternative options ?I would be very grateful if you could help me. I am running Windows 7 64-bitBest regards

A:Is my notebook UEFI compatible

Hi,As you can see on your drivers and software support page there is an update to make the Bios uefi compatible which I would install first: HP BIOS Update UEFI2.2.0.0 Rev. A1.2 MBMar 10, 2011 There is also last update to Bios which I would install if you are not already updated to this Bios: HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)F.1C5.0 MBNov 23, 2012 from here:https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-17-2100-notebook-pc-series/5082183/model/51... You can turn Uefi on or off in the BIOS settings and it will add some new futures such as secure boot. Make sure that the 4TB drive is formated in GPT, otherwise it will only be recognized as 2TB. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2634837/full-capacity-4tb-green-hdd-windows.html  Hope it helps,David

My non-profit has a number of HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 corei7vPro notebooks that use the 19.5v 3.5mm "blue" power supplies.  We have been given a number of older HP AC adapters that we want to put into service with these notebooks. There are quite a number of different models of AC adapters here on my desk, several of which deliver 19.5v, with higher wattage ratings, but all use the larger black 7.5 x 5mm plug, versus the smaller 4.5 x 3mm plugs on these notebooks. A simple 7.5 to 4.5mm converter from Amazon appears not to work... the notebook complains about  the smart AC adapter malfunctioning.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  I'd like to save the money and use these perfectly good but older ac adapters.

I am looking at buying a HP Notebook - 15-ay117cl.  I would like to be able to upgrade the hardrive to an SSD drive, but I have been having a lot of trouble finding what SSD drives are compatible.  Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.  I have had previous experience with the Samsung 850 EVO SSD drives and like them - would one of these be an option? What is the difference between the drives that come in a solid case and those that come looking like a circuit board? Thank you!

A:Compatible SSD drives for HP Notebook - 15-ay117cl ?

Hi, Yes, Samsung would be fine. There are few standard forms/types of SSD's: (a) The first form/type is very similar to normal HDD's,  same length, same width, only the height (or thickness) is lower a bit but they will fit to HDD slots. This could be like a box as you see them.(b) The second form/type called PCIe/M.2 they won't fit to normal HDD slots they may have different lenghts(c) Other form/type also called PCIe but normally we can't use for laptops.... Please read more info:     http://www.techspot.com/guides/768-ssd-form-factors/    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive Regards.

I am looking at a laptop for a fellow student. He upgraded from 8.1 to 10 shortly after 10 became available. Recently it was running slow and shuts off sometimes. Fan vent was clogged. CPU temp a little too high. First of all there are no drivers for Windows 10 from Toshiba. This laptop is not on their compatibility list.

I was running ccleaner and noticed its taking a long time. I looked at the CPU and Ram usage and CPU is at 7% and RAM at 49%. Then I noticed the speed of the CPU is at 1.2GHz with a Max speed of 2.6GHz. Every now and then it will jump to 2.3GHz for a second or two, then back down to 1.2 or 1.3GHz. Could this have anything to do with the 10 upgrade? Will not having the drivers for 10 create a performance issue? I think the laptop needs to go back to 8.1 but I need input from above my level (very low).

Toshiba Satellite P855-S5102
Intel Core i5-3230M CPU @2.6GHz
4G RAM Single Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)

Ccleaner is still running through Edge. Been doing it for 20 minutes and still at 0% progress which is why I posted.

I want to upgrade my CPU. It is currently an AMD Athlon Neo Processor MV-40. It is only 1.6 Ghz. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv2 Entertainment PC. My motherboard specs are below.

Model: Flextronics 3055
FSB: AMD Hammer, 200 Mhz

The question I have is: What other CPUs are compatible with my motherboard.

I have already tried to look up my motherboard via Flextronics website, but it does not seem to be listed there. Thank you all in advance for any help.

A:Motherboard compatible with CPU. Upgrade.

Faites, welcome to the forums.

I have already tried to look up my motherboard via Flextronics website, but it does not seem to be listed there.

Probably because it is an OEM board made by them for that (and maybe more) particular notebook. They wouldn't provide any support for it even if you did find it on their site as that would all fall on the notebook manufacturer.

As far as upgrading the CPU, unless it is supported in the bios the best you can do is the Turion Neo x2 listed here,

AMD Processors for Notebooks: AMD Turion

other than that, nothing. Even if it is supported (and that is entirely up to HP), ther eis the small matter of finding one.

Hey guys, this forum was a crucial part in building my rig a year and a half ago, and I'm going to call on this community once again because its almost time to upgrade my system.
I'm looking to upgrade to 4GB RAM, possibly a hard drive, and in the future I'll need a new processor and video card.

RAM: I have 2 1GB modules right now, and I was wondering whether I should buy 2 more 1GB modules, so all 4 slots on my mother board are filled, or whether I should get 2 2GB modules of a "better" RAM,as in better RAM. DDR2 800 is preferable, but I'm not sure if there has been "better" RAM that has come out that my mother board supports

@Brent171, welcome to the forum. The problem that you will have with upgrading the video card is two fold: 1) newer video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS and yours has a standard BIOS and 2) your power supply unit (PSU) is only 250W.  Most newer cards require a minimum of 300W to operate properly.  The last cards not to require UEFI were the GTX 660/670 series. Your best option is to choose a manufacturer and contact their Tech Support for help with choosing the best card for your system.  They will save you time and money.  The seller pays to ship the card to you, but you pay to return it if it doesn't work. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hi ,
I want to upgrade to 8GB RAM (Now I'm using 1 GB RAM)
I want to know if my computer compatible with 8GB or not !
my friend told me that it depends on the processor ... Does it ??

Windows 7 professional
Processor : Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 900 @ 2.20GHz 2.19 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 1.00 GB
System type: 32-bit operating system
I'm sorry if the info is not enough I don't know what is the important info to tell !!

A:Want to upgrade to 8GB RAM is my computer compatible ?

The CPU itself is 64 bit capable,

Intel? Celeron? Processor 900 (1M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

but seeing it is a socket 478 CPU, it all comes down to what the motherboard will support; one bit of info you left out. Also as long as you are running 32 bit Windows anything beyond 3 GB is essentially a waste as 32 bit Windows can only use up to 4 GB, and you will lose some of that due to memory addressing of all devices in and on the motherboard.

Hello Seven Forums,

I am in need of, I am assuming, a new Processor and more Memory (RAM) for my motherboard/P.C. .

The reason I ask of this is because I have very little knowledge of hardware, and am last night I purchased a new graphics card and power supply. The Power Supply supports up to 600W, I have a Radeon HD 4670 1GB DDR2 Graphics Card (which recommends 400 Watts).

Will I also need to upgrade my Power Supply again?

To see what my motherboard can support, and what it already has, please redirect here.

Motherboard Specifications, M2N68-LA (Narra5) Compaq Presario CQ5210F Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

I have no idea what I need, what's good, and how much I may be spending, if my gaming can get a serious change with upgrading my RAM, that would be sweet.

I also am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, so I am pretty sure I can support more than just 4GB.

Thank you for all of the future help you will give me,
Thank you Seven Forums for all of your help now and all of your help in the past,

A:Compatible Upgrade Hardware For My Motherboard?

If your planning on upgrading the cpu and ram you might as well make the move to Socket AM3 or Intel Socket 1155 by upgrading the motherboard also, as DDR3 ram is considerably cheaper than DDR2 ram which is what your computer is running you will see better results from upgrading to more recent computer hardware and it will cost the near the same if not less than upgrading the few pieces of an older system but i cant really tell you much more if your not knowledgeable enough to build the computer yourself.

Also the Power supply should be good enough to run all you need unless you have 4 hard drives etc

Hey all,
I have a scenario.
Say, I have a machine with win7 64 bit installed on it.
As we all know a few software donot have 64 bit versions as yet, so say im now using a 32 bit version of a software xyz. lets call the version v1.
now say, we have newer version available for xyz which goes by the name v2.
now v2 is prepared to support 64 bit and I d obviously want to have that on my machine.
So, if I try to install v2 on my machine , what will happen???
Will v1 cease to exist and get upgraded to v2??
or will a seperate installation happen for v2 with all the corresponding files copied to a newer folder, say C:\\programfile\x64???
Will v1 and v2 coexist?

I would also like to know about the registries, whether they would be any different from the 32 bit ones!

Please answer

Thanks in advance!!

A:upgrade of software from 32 to 64 bit compatible version

1) On 32-bit Windows, programs are installed by default into a system folder called Program Files, while OS components and shared libraries are installed into the System32 folder. On 64-bit Windows, apart from the regular Program Files folder, there is a Program Files (x86) folder for 32-bit apps. Also, in addition to the System32 folder, there is a SysWOW64 folder. Somewhat ironically, 64-bit OS components and shared libraries go into the System32 folder, while 32-bit ones go into the SysWOW64 folder.

This arrangement lets 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the same apps to be installed side-by-side on the 64-bit OS without overwriting one another’s files or accessing the wrong versions of the same library.

Registry keys specific to 32-bit apps are stored in a branch under the following key

2) Now, how exactly your particular app behaves would vary from app to app, depending on how each app is designed. E.g. 64 bit win7 has both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of IE8. By default, the 32 bit IE8 runs when you launch IE from locations like the taskbar or a hyperlink.

OTOH, AFAIK, 32 bit Office cannot co-exist with 64 bit. Of course, this may be by design because MS recommends that, for now, customers use the 32-bit version of Office since many of the common Office Add-ins will not run in the 64-bit Office environment.

So, basically I can think of 3 scenarios- one where the 64 bit app would refuse to install if the 32 bi... Read more

DIANAKD Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!If that is not bad enough, the Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Recovery-Manager-Blocked-After-Windo... At this point, the ONLY way to restore her prior OS is through something known as HP Recovery Media. HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. The end of W10 free upgrade is coming soon and I want to upgrade my Dell Inspiron N5110 because MS is not going to support W7. The problem is that I get a message that the upgrade could not proceed because of the BIOS and recommending that I contact the manufacturer.

Thing is, I've been contacting Dell for most of a year and they are telling me that they are not going to do a BIOS fix. Does anyone know of a way around this?

A:I can't upgrade from W7 to W10 because my Inspiron N5110 BIOS are not compatible

If Dell isn't going to update the BIOS there's nothing you can do. Windows 7 will be supported until 2020 so you've got time before you need to look for another system.

A quick Google search found users who are running BIOS A11 and running Windows 10. The pre-upgrade report shows that Windows 10 is not compatible but users have found that it works fine.

Hello, I would like to upgrade my computer to Windows 10. Unfortunately, the system test says that the graphics card is not compatible, therefore, I can't upgrade. I have the Nvidia Geforce 6150SE Nforce430. Are there any cards out there that would be compatible with my system and Windows 10? If not, is there a workaround that would allow me to upgrade to Windows 10? Thank you!

Shall I Upgrade My Processor/What Processors are CompatibleWith My Board?

Well as you can tell from the title, i'm wondering if I should upgrade my processor and what processors are compatible with my board.

I have a ASUS PDGT-LA [HP Goldfish3].

I currently have a Intel Pentium 4 519K 3.06Ghz 533 Mhz FSB 64-bit Processor.

Would upgrading to a 640 or a 630 be worth the $100?

What processors are compatible with my board?

Thanks in Advance,

I have had an older Sempron 2800, an ASRock Motherboard and an ATI Radeon 9200.

Until recently, doing some demanding tasks, all was well. Indeed all is well, except when it comes to one crucial area (for me) - World of Warcraft.

I have played World of Warcraft for a few years now, on this PC, with no problems. Nothing has been deliberately changed recently, either.

Problem: I reach a certain point in the game area and, no matter what - and I am sure that I have tried all things (all new drivers, re-installs, tweaking configs, etc) - I always freeze.

Though I never suffered before these incidents, I have thought that it would be nice to have a bit better performance / graphics card.

What I found was the ever reliable Tom's Hardware:

Best Gaming Graphics Cards For The Money
I consider myself an intermediate to advanced software user, but don't have much of a clue about hardware.

What I have done is install "EVEREST Home Edition" and so have access to the info that might be needed.

It appears that the card is AGP, as you can see from the screenshot below.

As far as Tom's article goes, I am looking in the AGP section.

Best Gaming Graphics Cards For The Money: AGP Interface

As I may purchase a new PC / have one built, in a couple of months, I would like to pick between the two most affordable (to serve as a stop-gap):
Radeon HD 2600 PRO (Best AGP Card for Under $100)
Radeon HD 2600 XT (Best AGP Card for $100)

Are they both compatibl... Read more

I ran the upgrade advisor and it says Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC.
I have a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Motherboard and all my other problems with the upgrade advisor are fixable.
Can I Install Windows 8?
I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. It seems that I don't have UEFI bios for my motherboard.
Do we have to have this in order to run Windows 8.

A:Upgrade Advisor says Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC

Yes, you can install Windows 8. None of my computers are compatible with Secure Boot, but they run Windows 8 just fine!

Hello, i have a lenovo g780 with 4gb of ram and i want to add another 4gb, but i cant find the exact ram module to pair with my existing module. None of the vendors in croatia have ramaxel and it's very rare to find it used.. The ram i have is Ramaxel RMT3160ED58E9W1600 I found one Samsung M471B5273DH0-CK0 listed on a local forum for sale which was also used in lenovo g780 laptops. It has the same speed (1600mhz), timings (11-11-11-28) and the same voltage (1.5v) Can i be 100% sure that this ram wil work without any problems with my current ram?

I have a Pavillion Model A6525UK I wanted to upgrade from VistaHome premium 32 to Windows 7.I ran the Windows 7 upgrade advisor which told me to download the latest driver for the Nvidia nForce 10/100mps ethernet before attempting the Windows 7 Install. I've been in contact with Nvidia customer services and got this reply Upon checking the system information using the screenshot provided I see that it is a  Nforce 430/Geforce 6150SE chipset in your system and there is no upgrade possible to windows 7 using the chipset as there are no supporting drivers for the card for windows 7. Please do let me know if there are any questions or concerns. Best regards,ShahbazNVIDIA Customer Care  On the basis of their reply it looks like I can't upgrade to Windows 7 if I wanted to due to the driver issue I think this is pretty poor. Can anyone confirm. Thanks

A:Pavillion upgrade Vista to Windows 7 No compatible NVidia Dr...

Hi: The information you received from Nvidia is incorrect. There is indeed an updated chipset driver from Nvidia, which updates the ethernet driver so you can upgrade to W7. W7 is not listed on the drop down menu for the driver download but when you select Vista, it shows the driver is also good for W7. Here it is...32 bit... http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14874/en-us

I'm new here and I'm having a problem upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on my Dell N5050. I'm getting a screen that says "What needs your attention". It listed 3 programs to uninstall because they are not compatible with Windows 8. I was able to uninstall 2 of them with no problem, but the 3rd one I can't even find on my computer. The program is Bluetooth Win7 Suite (64) and the screen that it's listed on has an "Uninstall" button that does nothing when I click on it. I've done a complete search of my computer (luckily there's not much on it) and I can't find this program. Any help would be appreciated as I'm not very computer literate. Thank you all in advance.

A:Problem finding/removing non-compatible program in upgrade

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless, useful for mice, keyboards, pairing with cellphones, tablets, etc. The program itself may be in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86). The x86 signifies the Folder where 32-bit programs get installed. Have you checked Device Manager for a listing for the adapter? Have you checked with Support | Dell US for drivers for the Bluetooth adapter? You'll need the Service Tag from a sticker on the case. Frequently the Bluetooth will be part of the Wi-Fi adapter, turn Wi-Fi off and Bluetooth will be off. I have an N5010 that I resurrected and that's the only feature that doesn't work but I can use a Bluetooth USB dongle when I need it.
