Phantom Touch on Touchscreen

Q: Phantom Touch on Touchscreen

Hello, I have a new HP Envy 15T Model 15-as020nr and the monitor has "phantom touches" on the right side of the screen in a vertical line. It will continue for quite some time (minutes) opening programs and anything in it's path. The screen exhibits circle touch indicating a finger touch. I already made sure the screen is clean and updated drivers and bios but it still does it randomly. It often happens after opening the screen after being in sleep mode. Any suggestions from a tech would be great otherwhise it's getting returned... Thank you for your help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I too have been having this problem. I bought my yoga 2 13" laptop about 2 months ago and the phantom touches started about a month later. At first I thought maybe the screen was picking up the fingerprints left on my screen or that there was a lag in response when i would touch the screen and nothing would happen but after reading other posts I can see this is a much bigger problem. When it starts I can'tget control of anything and have to wait for it to eventually stop and then restart my computer.  I found that this makes things subside for a while but then it starts all over again with no rhyme or reason. The most annoying part is that it closes my open tabs on the browser and sometimes opens others that are saved on my favorite bar. I'm worried that one day I'll be in the process of writing a paper for school and it deletes it before I get control of the screen.  Had I known this was such a common issue I would have never bought this laptop. Here I thought I was making my life a little easier being able to bring in my laptop to class and take up as little space as possible but looks like I will not have the option of using the touch screen if this is not easily resolved.

A:Yoga 2 13 Phantom touches on touchscreen

I have a similar problem with my Yoga 3 14 (I7). It works from a fresh boot, but if it goes to sleep, or sometimes sits for a while even w/o the screen blanking, the touch scrren doesn't respond to touches, but does have 'phantom' touches. Turning off and back on fixes. I got the laptop about a month ago. This seems to be a driver issue to me.

Hello Community I have a ThinkPad Helix (1st Gen) N3Z6CGES running Windows 10. Bought it back in 2013.Long time i was very happy with the device. Smaller issues, no big deals.Among others: Some static Windows control buttons burnt into the screen. Therefore, in September 2017 I decided to give it to a certified dealer, before my ThinkPlus service runs out. They changed the screen and since the Helix has this new screen, I have the same problem as it is seen in this video:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 freaking around... [YouTube]Exept for my phantom touches only occure in the lower corners of the screen. Which doesn't make it any better, though.Rebooting gives me a break for a few minutes, but then it start again out of nowhere. Sadly, for some time, after the repair i haven't used the notebook at at all, so I didn't realize there is this problem.During this time, of course my ThinkPlus Service and the warranty for the device run out. But then again I needed my notebook very urgently, saw the problem and didn't have the opportunity to give it to repair again.I improvised and turned off the touch screen in the Device Manager. I could only use the digitizer, but at least i was able to work with the Helix. Few days ago there was a Windows update and i noticed that this update resetted my settings in the device manager. I was able to use the touch input completely problem-free again and felt happy like a little child, not knowing how much is missed this comfort! The problem w... Read more

I am getting ghost touches all over my touchscreen, plus the mouse barely works and the keyboard doesn't work at all when the ghost touches are present.  I am running on Windows 10 and have owned this laptop since May of 2014 (purchased new directly from Lenovo.com). This issue is getting worse and worse as time goes on.  Even when I disable the touchscreen capability (via Device Manager/Human Interface Devices) it is  not permanently disabled and it just comes back on randomly, without me enabling it again. If you could tell me a way to permanently disable the touch screen feature, at least that would resolve the main problem for now. Obviously I'd love for my touch screen to work properly though. I've been having this problem for many months now, though in the last month or two it's gotten a lot worse and a lot more frequent (at least once if not multiple times a day).  I am at my wit's end. Thank you.

Hello, I've had my Yoga 900-13ISK2 Signature Edition for a little less than 2 years and up until recently it has been working flawlessly.  After the recent windows 10 1803 update, I started seeing the "phantom touches" or "ghost touches" phenomena on my screen.  It is not very frequent, but it does happen from time to time.  I am not sure if anything triggers the behavior as it normally happens randomly and not related to any particular task.   This is very annoying and disruptive especially because I use this machine for work.  I checked to make sure all my drivers were up-to-date and they all are.  I checked the forum and there were no solutions for my PC there either.  I used the recovery function to do a clean install of windows, thinking that maybe the 1803 patch caused this issue and that seemed to work fine for a while but the phenomena came back.  By the way, the signature edition doesn't come with the factory image partition (major error on Lenovo's part - that should be standard on all devices, no matter what the edition) and now the Novo/Nova (sp?) button doesn't work and the Airplane Mode hot key doesn't work.  For such a premium laptop, it is definitely lacking in areas that are easy to provide to make the customer experience positive. I still have this issue and want to know if anyone else is seeing this problem.  I also tried stopping the HID touchscreen controller and re-starting to see if that h... I posted this on the tablet forum but probably more appropriate here: I am one of the lucky ones who just got the X1 Carbon Touch (after a 2 month wait). Touch screen is VERY spotty.  Will just stop working.  All the time.  Even in the middle of gestures. I found that by going to the upper right corner touch will start working again, and then it'll stop moments later in the middle of an activity. This is Windows 8, of course.  I have used plenty of other Windows 8 devices so I'm not a novice.  I have never seen this behavior.  Is this a driver problem?  A setting I don't know about (some special Lenovo thing?).  I am hoping its not hardware.  The fact that touching the upper right corner enables things for awhile seems to indicate its not hardware but not certain.

A:X1 Carbon Touch - touchscreen problems

I seem to have resolved this.  Went into the Tablet control panel app, and started playing with the 'Calibrate' function.  After doing it a few times and not getting it quite right (It's designed for a pen), I did a 'Reset' on the settings and now the touch seems to be working normally and properly.

Randomly, out of nowhere, the touchscreen on my Y700 stopped working. Upon a hard reboot it came back for all of 5 seconds a few times and stopped again and now it's just completely stopped. Under the device manager, there are NO Human Interface Devices and a USB shows an error "Uknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) and an error code 43. I thought it was just drivers, but I did a completely fresh install of Windows 10 and still the same error persists. Do you all think this is a hardware problem? I am from the Caribbean and the service here is terrible. I am on my first replacement and had to wait almost 6 months for it because the touchpad on my first unit stopped functioning. I really don't want to go through this hassle again. Any suggestions ? Or is it just a faulty digitizer panel?

I bought the PC in July 2015 and it had to be returned to HP 3 times! Firstly the hard drive failed in autumn 2015 and was replaced. The keyboard was failing in june 2016 and was replaced. The touchpad was not working properly in July 2016 and was replaced. It is now conveniently for HP out of warranty after more than 1 year and is worse than ever. The cursor is constantly not responding to the touchpad touch and constantly disappears, it also jumps around the screen. The touchpad was replaced in July 2016 and still doesn't work. Occasionally the touchscreen will fail to respond to touch.

A couple weeks ago, my touchscreen and usb drivers suddenly disappeared when the laptop did an automatic update and the battery drained over night. I fixed it briefly by going into the advanced start up and restoring my computer to a point before it had stopped working. Well, battery drained over night again and drivers vanished. As did the restore point I had used. I have fixed the usb issue, but I cannot for the life of me get this stupid screen to work. In the device manager, it's listed under "other devices" with a yellow warning. Click it and it brings up Code 28. I have been to the update drivers section on Lenovo. Updated things that I have read on here worked for others, nothing. I have uninstalled, restarted my laptop, driver still won't install. I have run diagnostics and they came up with nothing. Researching into the far reaches of the internet is making my head hurt and not yielding much that's relevant to my model. I have had this laptop for years with no issues (except a few slight manageable ones). It's out of warranty, I can't afford a new one, and depending on how much it could cost me, having someone repair it for me.  Can anyone provide some direction to help me fix this? It isn't hugely pressing now that I have a working mouse, just more of a major annoyance when I habitually poke and swipe the screen. I'm fairly tech savvy, but I've reached my "I want to chuck it over a cliff" limit. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Dear Support Team, I am happy with my Lenovo X1 Carbon, but I have one issue that appears randomly (though rarely): while most of the time, the touch activity is very precise and smooth, the cursor sometimes jumps around wildly to random places that I did not even touch remotely. For an example, I am touching in a line from the center top to the center bottom. Instead, multiple clicks per second happen in random positions all over the screen (performing all kind of actions I never intended). I have this once every few weeks and it also happened when I opened the laptop for the first time. In general, I believe it only happens right after opening the laptop. Typically, closing the laptop and re-opening it again fixes it, but I would like to have a long-term solution. Is this a software or hardware issue? What do you recommend I do (since it's the year of "do")? Greetings from GermanyMoritz

A:X1 Carbon Touch: Touchscreen cursor randomly "jumping around"

Likewise. This happens to me often and is making me crazy.  Anyone out there who can help? Also, I type fast and sometimes do not stike a key hard enough for it to register This is my third or fourth Thinkpad and this new feel is annoying. Also, Lenovo has changed its keyboard layout for some gawd-awful reason and the right side of the keyboard is different.  Both these (and the common complaint we both have) are very annoying for an old time user .

Hello guys,So I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 touch that recently fell from a table and the laptop itself looks physically OK and has no dents or cracks at all, even the glass touchscreen is ok but the top part of the LCD inside appears to be cracked as there are lines and black cracks on my screen. I recently took the laptop to a Lenovo service center and they told me that they had to change both the LCD and the touch screen module (or digitizer as i have heard) as they come in a package, this costs around $300 and is not worth it since my laptop would cost around the same if sold secondhand. My question is whether there is a way to change just the LCD without changing the touch screen module as it works perfectly fine. After taking my laptop to a technician outside of Lenovo, he claims that seperating the touchscreen module from the LCD would almost always result in the touch screen cracking so it would be unusable, is this true or is it possible to keep the old touch screen module and change just the LCD? Thanks in advance

So I've had this happen countless times. The touchscreen stops working. The laptop is in perfect conditions. The screen, not even a scratch. I format the laptop, it still doesn' work. So, I've always fixed it by installing the AUO Touchscreen Firmware/ sp63116.exe from:http://support.hp.com/mx-es/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-14-f000-sleekbook/5375393/model/5403360#... My problem atm is that this time, that process isn't working. The installer opens, installs the thing, then the program opens and immediately closes. This prompts windows to ask me if the driver installed correctly or that if it should attempt to install under a compatibility mode. No matter which I choose, it still does the same thing. It won't stay open for more than 1 second.  I've restored my laptop to factory presets a couple times already and the touchscreen isn't working yet because the driver/program/wizard thingy refuses to stay open after it is done installing. Can anybody help me? Perhaps share a different version of the installer? Thank you.

It's got a crack from the top left corner diagonally all the way to the bottom of the screen,  two coming diagonally down from the right side to  the bottom of the screen where it  has several smaller cracks meeting all in the same area  in all directions . My laptop isn't under warranty anymore and I got it in December of 2013 . How can I go about fixing this, Would hp help? I'm not sure how expensive this is to get fixed. Thank you

Hi all. I'm planning to buy an X1 Carbon, and I'd like a hint to help me to choose between touch and non-touch display; I'm not planning right now to make a major use of the touch panel, but this could change in the future. Apart from the touch feature, there are other differences between these two options? Image quality? Screen surface, matte or glossy? Thickness? Weight? Battery usage? Other? Thanks in advance for any suggestion. EDIT: Sorry, wrong forum section. Can't find a button to delete. Somebody can kindly move to the right section? Or delete from me? Thanks

A:X1 Carbon 6th gen display: differences between touch and non-touch (touch capability aside)

Hello and welcome,

I have no personal experience with the Carbon series, but the way I read the base spec the touch option is only available with the FHD screen.  I guess that's "other" ...
