Q: Any experts? Need a recommendation for CPU/RAM/Motherboard etc

Hi, i posted a thread a while ago a tad similar to this one, but it wasn't really specific and I didn't really feel like I explained what I meant well..

Basically, I want to upgrade my computer, make it a tad faster. I personally think I could do with a CPU upgrade, maybe you might think different..

Also, If i do go to upgrade my CPU, which will work accordingly with my motherboard, because i have no idea about this motherboard/cpu correlation, and how you know if the motherboard will handle the CPU..

Also, i'm running windows 7 64-bit and i only have 3.25gb available RAM, wondering if someone could tell me what's up with that? I've tried to alter settings in the BIOS, to deal with it , but there seems to be nothing available.

This is my stats, via Speccy:

Preferred Solution: Any experts? Need a recommendation for CPU/RAM/Motherboard etc

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sys Specs:

-Nforce 2 mobo (k7 ncr18 is the distributer)
-Radeon 9800 Pro 256
-Athalon 3200+
-1gb DDR 400
-Antec 430watt power supply
-120gb HD
-Onboard sound and ethernet

Problem:
PC locks up after 5 mins of use or less (black screen, no video signal). Sometimes it goes to black screen before windows loads at all. Drivers for the mobo are current. The problem began after i had to flash the bios due to accidentally saving some bad settings. I tried a different video card in this box, a Radeon 9700 Pro 128, and it wont even boot up. Now heres where it gets strange, if i remove the power cable to the 9700 the computer will try to boot up but obviously i get a warning right away telling me to plug the power cable back in.

My gut tells me that there is some kind of problem with the AGP slot itself. I know its very unlikely to actually have damaged the hardware by flashing the bios, but I cant think of any bios settings to adjust that would help. Ive tried adjusting the AGP slot voltage (only 3 settings to mess with) and it doesnt affect the problem in any way.

Summary: The computer WILL boot with the radeon 9800 but crashes soon after. Computer will NOT boot at all with the 9700 hooked up. Both cards work perfectly in a different computer. The power supply is brand new and also works perfectly in another computer. Its not over heating either I can tell the difference between an over heating crash and whatever this problem is.

hi, i built a pc a few years ago as a project, which went well until the eventual pc blue screen of death visited.

now, i need to replace the motherboard, and im not sure what kind to get, nor do i know how to figure out what is the best compatible board for my system.

below is the original config. i'd really like to try to reuse the video card and the RAM. i run winXP Pro. this is not my primary computer (im both mac & pc) but i have no patience for slow processing, so i need to balance performance with price.

any motherboard suggestions? any upgrade suggestions?

Hi,

Processor - Intel Q8300 Core 2 Quad (2.50GHz/4M/1333/05A/Socket: 775)
Motherboard - ASUS P5N-E SLI

RAM - Kingston 2 x 2GB PC2-5300 DDR 667 240Pin; 2 x 2GB Unbranded

I would like to replace the motherboard with a new one since it's quite old now and I'd like to speed my computer up a bit. Plus the time keeps going wrong, even if I replace the battery and the USB ports are very unreliable. Please could someone recommend a good motherboard that costs around $100 or less and would allow me to continue to use my current components?

Thanks,
Joe

I currently have a Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H (rev. 1.0) motherboard with a quad core Phenom CPU in it. Unfortunately, there's an issue with the rev 1.0 board where RAM becomes unstable if you use all 4 slots. And there's no firmware fix for it. (I don't overclock anything).

So I'm looking for a recommendation on a motherboard replacement. It just has to be compatible with my existing CPU and DDR2 memory. And work with 4 sticks of 2GB chips.

Any suggestions?

I'm having some troubles finding the right motherboard for what I want. My case will hold SSI, Extended ATX, ATX, Micro ATX. I will be using dual Intel Xeon E5345 quad-core processors (Socket 771) and I'll be running 3-4 monitors. I'm not real clear on this PCI-Express stuff, but I believe I need a motherboard with at least 2 PCI-E x16 slots (which I haven't been able to find) to accommodate 2 graphics cards which I haven't picked out yet as again I'm not real clear on that part. Need anymore info or have any recommendations? Thanks

first, how many sticks of Ram do you have? How intense are your applications? do you need DX 10 or 9? How MUCH memory and are you going to make upgrades? DDR 2 memory, right? DVI or VGA monitors?

Gosh, I hate to ask such a Newbie Question.

For many years now I have purchased ASUS AMD motherboards. My two Crosshair boards, which I have been using for quite awhile, are bulletproof.

I recently purchased an ASUS M5A97 EVO Motherboard, which worked fine during the initial setup in another case. After moving the board to a much larger HAF case, all of my DDR-3 RAM (2 sets of 16 GB Corsair) which worked before no longer works. Without sounding like a "smarty pants", I tried all the obvious stuff with MemTest, change of PSU cables, testing each stick of RAM at a time - everything.

Now I don't buy junk, and I don't overclock or game. I use my boards for business and they can't go down. Always use vinyl gloves and static straps during installs.

I am hoping you can tell me which board will suffice as a replacement for this one that I must RMA.

Please:

1) No discussion of NAS
2) No discussion of RAID
3) No suggestions that Gigabyte might be the best choice. I have had nothing but bad experiences with that immoral company. (Check out the UD-3 and UD-5 threads on OCN.)

As my Daddy used to say, "if you're gonna tell me a lie, at least tell me a good one".
And GB doesn't even lie well.

What I need is:

1) Lots of on-board 6 Gbs. SATA ports
2) Front panel USB connector
3) Just running an AMD Quad Core on this one (With Noctua NH-D14)
4) Corsair RAM XMS-3 and Corsair Vengeance - each 16 GB (4 X 4 and 2 X eight)

Still looking at ASUS:

A:Need Recommendation for AMD Motherboard

SO your saying, ALL you did was move a motherboard from one case to another, and the RAM no longer works, but tested fine on another board after the fact? New case PSU or that was moved also?
If new PSU in the case, I'd be testing that.

What specifically indicated to you the board was bad?

$200 boards likely have a better chipset (Southbridge) these days, more PCIe x16 slots, and possibly a better on-board sound chip, then a $100 board.

Shopping wise I would use pcpartpicker.com and first select the CPU in question, so it only shows compatible motherboards using the system builder.

Hello,

Its come to a time where i need to change my faulty Abit AT7 motherboard and was looking for some recommendations from you guys.

Obviously it need to suite my P4 3.00Ghz Socket478 CPU.(I thinks thats all i need to think about in terms of my current hardware).

I'd like to have a PCI express socket on there also.

I have a budget of about 70.

A choice would be superb!

Many thanks people!!

I would reccomend going to newegg, matching your search with what you need, and then sorting the results by rating. I would then out of the first five, decide which one suits you best as far as price, PCI slots, memory banks, and so forth.

A:Motherboard Recommendation

The Albatron PX865PE (what I have) is a nice board and not too expensive. It lets you adjust the FSB in 1MHz steps, and also lets you increase the CPU/RAM voltage (for overclocking). You will have to buy DDR RAM though, no new motherboards take PC133 anymore.

As for performance, rather than ignite the old "AMD vs. Intel" debate yet again, I invite you to compare the two processors here: http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041221/cpu_charts-15.html#directx_9

If your processor is a Northwood P4, it's just over twice as fast running Unreal Tournament 2004 as your 1.3GHz Duron.

Hi all I need a recommendation for a new motherboard and CPU suitable to run Win 7 x86 (32bit)

I need the following:-

1. If possible a dual monitor output, with separate feeds to monitors ( not the same single feed to both.) This saves adding a separate dual monitor graphics card.
2. micro ATX to fit existing case.
3. At least 4mb memory as I have been told is the max allowed by win7 x86.
4. Suitable to view HD video playback.
5. Fast enough to run trading software such as TD ameritrade etc.

I have tried looking at the board manufacturers but have been lost with what chip set is best and all the different CPU AMD and Intell types.

I would appreciate any input in this area, I have even looked a a new machine but they all now come with Win 8 which I have trouble using on a desk top I prefer to stick with Win7 for now.

I have a biostar n68s3b motherboard and on the manufacturers website it states my motherboards "recommended" tdp is 95. Does this mean anything over 95 tdp will not work, lets take the phenom ii x 4 965 125. Will this cpu work on my motherboard but be above recommendation or will it not work at all. I have also seen the same model cpu in 3 different tdp versions. Also do unlocked cpu have variable tdp. For example if I change the mhz on a cpu wouldnt what increase the tdp as well? and if so would a cpu rated 95 w on its manufacturers website be accurate if the cpu is unlockable. sorry if im wording this bad but ill give it a try. lets say i put a "unlockable" 95 w cpu in my motherboard that's rated for a 95 w cpu. If i overclock it wouldn't that bring the tdp/w over 95 w and if it does wouldn't that cause interruptions on a motherboard rated for only 95 w?

A:Are motherboard tdp/w a recommendation or a requirement ??

The TDP is the 'recommended' maximum power the Cpu should run at. If that figure is exceeded, either because the Cpu itself has a higher TDP rating or it's overclocked, it can cause overheating of the Cpu and/or of the VRMs (Voltage Regulator Modules) which supply power to the Cpu.

In your question that 965 TDP 125 Watt Cpu would work but if it runs near 100% for long enough (a few minutes) it could get hot enough to throttle back to a slower speed or even shut down the PC. Plus it could overheat the VRMs which would damage the motherboard.

Basically you need a motherboard that can supply enough power to the Cpu and Cpu cooling that can keep the Cpu temperature low enough to stop the Cpu from slowing down or switching the PC off.

Some Cpus have different versions with different TDP ratings.

See here for a list of Cpus compatible with your motherboard (all are TDP 95W or less) :-

Hi folks,

My mobo has officially died and I was wondering if you have recommendations for a motherboard to replace it with? The shop are offering to install a Asrock N68C-S UCC, but I've been reading mixed reviews. Is there anything more modern that is a good contender for the ASUS.

I'm looking for something that is compatible with my existing hardware which is:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core +4600
992 MB RAM (2 x 2gb Corsair ddr2)
NVIDIA GeForce 6150
Barracuda 7200.10 Ultra ATA/100 250GB
M-Audio 2496 Soundcard
Windows XP Service Pack 3

Thanks

A:Motherboard recommendation: replacing an ASUS M2NPV-VM

There won't be much too much more modern as both the CPU and memory are behind the current generation. The selection of new boards that would be compatible are low on most sites, here's an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Value=3879:27158&PropertyCodeValue=3879:27244

If you don't mind reinstalling Windows then you can switch to an AMD chipset, the ASRock A785GM-LE, but another nVidia board might be a just a drop in replacement.

---
Weird thing though, iSSD can normally boot if there is a bootable USB (with Windows OS on it) plugged in.
I've tried with easy2usb's "boot to first HDD" option and it works. I've tried with a Win10 OS and rufus bootable usb > clicked repair windows > Continue with Windows 7/8/10 and it works as well.

Temp Fix I did was:
plugged in SD card with easy2usb boot on it.
always had to manually navigate to the "boot to first HDD" option to be able to boot using iSSD. (even if it is not the first HDD. It might mean first bootable HDD )

Request/Help:
Can someone help me create a DOS command that I can use for my bootable SD card. A command that can run automatically without me pressing anything. Not sure if it's possible but I want to use the SD card as a bootable USB device then put the DOS command that will run automatically during start up and boot to the First bootable HDD, just like the option on the easy2usb menu.

Appreciate your inputs!

Hello all and welcome to my new thread. I may not necessarily call myself an expert. Although I do consider myself a moderate user. I started with computers from my dad when i was about ten. He taught himself and then he taught me by getting me to take a pc apart and put it all back together again. Since then I have taught myself and surpassed my father by miles. I have not had a single IT class and I am only 19. But I do know that I am up there because I had a computer class and my teacher had his A+ and N+ and I was showing him what to do. not only that but I find myself able to talk with admins who do this for a career and sometimes talk with people who work for microsoft and be able to understand what they are doing. However that being said I am far from an expert. I know that there is much to learn and no matter how much you know there will always be someone smarter than you. and now thats why I am posting this thread. I am all about learning new things and I actually use my pc more for learning than i do for using the web and playing games. and so i am looking to learn more but I feel I have reached a level where I am out of ideas on what to learn next. I think that I need to talk with some of the experts online and this looks like the place to start.
so this thread is for tips, tricks, and new things to learn and tryout. I am hoping this thread becomes popular because i wish to learn as much as i can.

here is my first tip.

I've already run adaware and spybot per instructions.

This isn't a real list but start with this one

Fix this in HJT
O4 - Startup: DLHelperEXE.exe

see http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/c/casinoonnet.asp

After that
-----------
Download the latest version of Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
After installing AAW, and before running the program, you NEED to FIRST update the reference file following these instructions.
Now do the following:
- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"
- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys.
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

Now press "Next" again.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

---------
Post a fresh HJT list after that

In IE6, my homepage is set to my website, www.cityofcanton.com All of a sudden, when I open IE, this bogus "searchex.com" page opens.

I dumped all cookies, tem, temp internet, content IE files, emptied auto complete and dumped all hidden urls in index.dat files. Even re-booted.

It still comes up. I went into Tools + Internet Options + General and when I deleted my homepage and tried to re-enter it, I see that www.searchex.com is in the drop down box. I can't delete it.

once I bring the browser up, if I hit "HOME" then my home page comes up, but I get this bogus page every time I open the browser.

I had someone search my registry and they didn't find anything in there. It is in the temp internets files under Content IE, but when I delete the whole file, it comes back as soon as I open my browser. I think if I can delete it from the area where you set your homepage, I can get rid of it. Any way to delete that?

My OS is W98, Norton doesn't detect any virul and I have the free version of Zone Alarm, so I'm not sure what this is or how to get rid of it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Is this indicative of a computer glitch or is it outside on the line????

Thanks for any and all info....

A:Any DSL experts out there...

Can you clarify:

Is it losing the ADSL signal? (If so it's most probably a line issue)
Or is it losing the network connectivity with the computer? (In which case its probably computer related)

I am looking at the possibility shifting from my Palm application as my contact manager to another contact manager, possibly Act!. I have a lot of questions about the program; but, I will start with these two.

Can Act be integrated with another word processor other than the Act! word processor or MS Word that are its defaults?

I have folders on my hard disk that contain documents or various types that I would like to link to some of my Act! contacts. Is this possible?

I have Act! 2000.

That'll do for starters.

Hello,

A few weeks back i made the mistake of typing "x box tips and tricks" into yahoo. I inadvertently clicked on one of the first offerings they provided, which quickly put me into spyware hell. I have run four different programs(Adaware, Spybot, Microsoft, and Yahoo's) for Spyware but still get pop ups.

Any advice on what you see in my log below? Also, in a hopefully unrelated matter my network connectivity seemed to flat out disappear last night when I uninstalled limewire. My system no longer recognizes my ethernet card. Any ideas on this are appreciated.

thanks,

EW

A:New HJT Log for the experts

Welcome to TSF.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

ok.. i've posted a thread before about hooking my laptop to my dvd component to get the full 5.1 surround sound..
i'll just get straight to the point...
ok.. i have a laptop with 4 audio ports. (1 heaphones, 1 mic, 1 line in, and 1 SPDIF)
and my DVD component has 1 TOSLINK optical input port.
my laptop is a CLEVO W860CU
(click this for specs)
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/prodinfo_2.asp?productid=235
i've already bought a TOSLINK optical line and a converter plug for the 3.5mm.
so i came home today and i tried setting it up... but it still doesn't work..
i've tried putting it in all four of the ports, one by one.. nothing..
i read that i was supposed to get the red light.. none..
i've also read that i need to configure with the realtek audio manager..
i've looked at every option, but couldn't get anything with SPDIF options..
what more do i have to do.... please.. any help??
i really don't want to get a new soundcard.. but if really that is the only option
thanks a lot in advance...
have a great week.

A:EXPERTS.. please some help.!!

there is no light whatsoever... i really don't know what to do...
i'm running vista ultimate. 32bit.
i am currently getting 2.1 at most..
and this is by connecting my laptop HDMI (out) to TV (in)
and TV analog red/white (out) to DVD component red/white (in).
in the windows sound options, i have to put the default to Realtek Digital output.
that's the only way the sound will come 2.1.
the weird thing is i saw on some other posts that there are separate parts such as HDMI, REALTEK DIGITAL OUTPUT, SPEAKERS, etc...
but i only get 2.... speakers and the digital output.
and also in the realtek configuration, the digital output doesn't have any special options to turn on/off.. only sound effects and sound format...
i am thinking that windows or the computer BIOS? is thinking the SPDIF is the HDMI output, which also makes sense....
is there any way to fix this??? i would like to use my SPDIF optical output for the sound... i have a crappy DVD component but good sound, so i just need my laptop to start spitting out the red light to connect straight to the component...
this is really frustrating....
AARRRGGG please.. some advice?

I know that it has showed up as a running process in an older scan and now it doesn't. It shows up in Task Manager and from all indications it is working properly. I don't understand. I tried redownloading HJT. Still the same. What gives?

I wrote this image expansion script originally for someone at another board, then found that the ones at JS sites don't work in Netscape, hard to change the speed, etc.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/brendandonhue/file.html

The guy from Dynamic Drive said he was interested in it, but it doesn't work with multiple images in one page (without using the whole script once for every image, anyway.
Any ideas on how to make it work with multiple images?
I know exactly what the problem is, just not the fix.

It grabs/changes the width and height of the image using
document.images[0]. But if you wanted to change the 1st and 2nd image on the page, you would have to add the script twice, once with document.images[0] and once with document.images[1].
I have tried adding another argument to the function
expand(speed,IMG)
and onmouseover the image would call expand(2, this) which would get it to expand by 2 pixels. But I use a setTimeOut to keep repeating the function, and it won't remember the "IMG" argument when I call the function from the setTimeOut.
Any ideas?
Thanks if you read this whole thing its a little confusing

Hi VIKRAMSAMAK,
When you press the power button, do you see any leds come on?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then test the system with the adapter only / battery only.
Download the service manual here - http://dell.to/1ARFG9D - and remove the memory modules / HDD and check.
Test another power adapter / battery. If the adapter led goes off when connected to the system, the dc port or the motherboard might be at fault.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
You could also order the parts online here if required - http://bit.ly/2nTUAKO
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

G'day. I have two problems today.

1. In Media Player most of my .avi files are now playing with a green border around the bottom and right hand side of the video. Has only just started - I checked with files I have played before with no issue and most of them are doing the same.

2. Winamp will not play them properly at all - I get sound from the start but the picture is frozen on whatever is the first frame, which for most of them is a black screen. If I move the scroll bar across to skip a bit the timer displays the new time point but the whole thing freezes - no sound and still no video. It plays .mp4 sound complete with skipping through points but does not load ANY video - just the nullsoft logo on the screen.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest winamp version and have rolled back from WMP 10 to 9. I have been using both of these programs for some time with no problems. It's only in the last few days that it has changed and I can't think of anything I have done that may have caused it.

Cheers

PS - I just played the .mp4 file in WMP and it worked fine except the quality was really grainy. Positive it wasn't like that last time I watched that one.

A:Any WMP experts out there?

As an adendum - Nero Showtime was doing the same green line thing but only a fraction of the width of WMP. I uninstalled and reinstalled Nero and now it is corrected in that program. WMP and Winamp are the same as before.

Please, I have spent countless hours searching on google, the forums after spending a whole week on this issue, Please if you can help would be appreciated as this problem is not found on the web

System specs
GA-EP35-DS3P
QUAD CORE 1.6GHZ
WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE EDITION

-Problem-

I previously had a duel boot of xp and windows 7 ( xp was installed on my MAIN harddrive when I formated it. After MANY fail attempts I realised I had to change the harddrive priority in BIOS to make the harddrive that had the windows 7 instalation number 1. When I start my computer it loads up normally until it says NTLDR missing Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart. So I put in my windows 7 disk in hoping to be able to repair the installation. At first when I tried this no OS would be found to repair in the System Recovery Options but after putting the hardrive in a higher priority it now appears as

WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE (Recovered)

Each time i click Next it says "This Version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try Using a Recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows"

That however is impossible since it the only Installation Disc I used to Install Windows 7!!

I know there is a problem with how the computer is booting up but if I cant select the operating system I cannot go any further please assist me , Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED

A:I need Serious help from experts!!

Hello, and welcome!

Start out by marking your Windows 7 partition as Active. See this tutorial: Partition - Mark as Active

Then, run a startup repair on your Windows 7 installation.

Startup repair should do the trick for you; if not, post back, and we'll go from there.

Good luck!

Please Help Experts

I am a computer teacher. We have a computer lab with 20 Dell machines. The new computers are Dell Dimension 4500,
with Windows XP running. Last week, I began the process of downloading the latest windows updates, and patches. After downloading the latest Windows XP service pack, and installing the critical updates I restarted the machines. The Windows XP Login screen comes up fine, and then I selected one of the user accounts; in this case "student". The "Welcome" screen
comes up and the message "Loading your personal settings...". At this point, the machine "hangs" a moment, and then the following window pops up:
WINDOWS UPDATE - "An error has occurred while setting up
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbscript.dll This error has been logged, the
installation will continue.
At this point, I click "OK", and the machine continues to boot to the desktop. This error message is obviously related to the downloading of the service pack, and patches. I have not yet done this task on some machines, and they do not have this problem. Please help. Thank you.

None of my programs will run (.exe) when attempted, I get the hour glass for a few seconds and nothing happens. At that point I need to power off using the power button (the normal shutdown doesn't work, and task manager won't come up. Then I boot using "last known good configuration". That seems to help for awhile. But ultimately it hangs again.

I have been having two seperate issues, although they may be related, that have been driving me crazy and hope somebody can help.

First, I have lost my ability to cut/copy and paste. For example when I copy a cell in Excel it appears to have taken the command, yet the paste option is greyed out and unavailable. Possibly something to do with the clipboard?

Second, I recently installed the Beta of Windows Live Mail (WLM) and have lost my ability to open hyperlinks by clicking on them in an email. The link address appears in the status bar and the pointer changes correctly but nothing happens when clicked. I can 'copy shortcut' and immediately paste it into a browser address bar, but if I have to do any other actions prior to pasting such as opening a new tab the copied information disappears and the paste option is not available. The solution offered by MS was to make IE my default browser which does not make a difference. Seems like the problem should be in the WLM application, not the browser. I've tried all the settings to no avail.

Also, I've recently used a few optimization programs and may have inadvertantly changed a setting affecting the way memory is utilized. All virus and malware checks come up clean.

Any help is appreciated!

What is the solution of my Problem.

A:All experts help !!!

It sounds like you just need to assign a drive letter to the "hidden" partitions ... This will show you how to fix the missing already installed Windows Vista hard disk partition in Windows 7 when you have just installed Windows 7 from boot to dual or multi boot with Vista.

A:Any HJT log experts around?

Download CW-Shredder at the link below:
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe

Download 'SpSeHjfix'. to the desktop and then
right click a blank part of desktop & select new folder, call it spfix
unzip the file into that folder
http://www.derbilk.de/SpSeHjfix112.zip

Disconnect from the net and Close ALL OPEN PROGRAMS.
Run 'SpSeHjfix'. and click on "Start Disinfection".
When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder.

If it doesn't find any of the SE files or any hidden reinstallers it will say system clean and not go on to next stage

Now run the Shredder - Hit The FIX button!

Restart your computer.

Uninstall MessengerPlus! 3 from Add/Remove Programs.

Download and run the LOP Uninstaller here: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/downloads.htm

Close all browser windows, run the remover, reboot.

Post a fresh HJT log and the log that was created by 'SpSeHjfix'.

Note: On a few occasions it has been reported that after using the SPSEHjfix you cannot open Internet Explorer.
To fix this, go into Control Panel>Internet Options>Programs & press Reset Web Settings, then you can set your home page to what you want on the General tab.
