Q: HP ZBook Docking station update - June 30 2016

Today's the day! The BIOS's have been tested and set for release! (That's good!)But they will not be available in a Softpaq form until next week. (That's bad.)But I have a copy of them and have put them on an FTP site for all of my friends! (That's good!)But the yougert is also cursed. (Can I go now?)Below is an updated list of key drivers, et al. (Items in Green are new.)You must have all of these updated drivers as well as this new BIOS to making things as "sunshiny and rainbows" as possible. (Remebmer to always use the Softpaq Download Manager to ensure everything is up to date.) There is a new setting in BIOS Boot Options: USB Ports Enabled Preboot. This must be unchecked to correct Enumeration Issue and this only affects the ports on the dock. In other words, the USB ports are disabled in a Pro OS environment*. Any keyboards or mice will not function at that time. However! They will work when the OS loads... even at the login screen. They will not work in BIOS though. *This only effects the dock ports, not the USB ports on the unit itself. The new offical BIOS's are here. (ftp://bootlegs : [email protected] - remove the spaces between the ":" in that link. I did this so it didn't tirn into this .) ----------------------------------------------------------- I'm sure everyone knows how to do this, but just in case:To install these, get a USB key and makde the following folder structure: X:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\NEW (Where X is the drive letter assigned to the key at that time.)Take the .bin file you need for your system and copy it to the "NEW" folder. Boot into the BIOS via F10 at boot up with the USB key with the .BINOn the main BIOS page, select "Update System BIOS".Scroll down and select "Update BIOS using Local Media". The system will then look on the key for the bin file. If the wrong one has been placed on the key, it will report that there is no file to update with so there are no worries about applying a BIOS that was not meant for your system.Once it's the unit has done it's reboot and beepy beepy dance, ensure that the USB Ports Enabled Preboot is unchecked as per the instrucitons above. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Now to just get preboot USB support (I realize this may be as much an Intel/MS issue as anything), and we might just see a unicorn start dancing spontaneously across our screens at bootup!   So far, so good on my system with 1.09 and all of the other updates running - about 12 hours and several reboots into it.

I'm thinking about getting a docking station for my laptop, but I'm running into some confusions. First off, I don't know if my laptop is a ZBook 15 or a ZBook 15 G2. I think it's a ZBook 15 because it says "HP ZBook 15" on the bottom without the "G2" suffix. Also, it was issued to me by my university in August 2014, a month before the ZBook 15 G2 was announced. So unless my university was able to get early access to the G2's, it must just be a ZBook 15. Second, I don't know which docking stations are compatible with the ZBook 15. And I don't know what the merits of each of these docking station models are. I use a second monitor a lot with my laptop, which connects by VGA. So that's one thing I'd want the docking station to be able to support. Other than that I'd just want a bunch of USB ports, an audio port, and other stuff that I think is standard for a docking station. So, what advice can you give me?

Hello. My work computer is a 15" Probook. My personal computer is a Zbook 15. I have the old 90W HP Docking Station. I have speakers, 2 monitors, a keyboard, a printer, and a mouse. Connecting all of them each time I connect my laptop is a huge pain. I also use both my work and personal computer a lot at home, and I definitely like using my full setup for both when I do that. What is the best (and ideally cheapest) way for me to get a docking station (or some kind of workaround) that will dock both laptops?  Thanks,Justin

I have the following:HP ZBook 15 G2 Mobile Workstation (F1M37UT#ABA) (Windows 7)HP 2012 230W Advanced Docking Station (A7E38AA#ABA)2 x Dell U2312HM connected via Display Port I use one of the Dell displays as the primary display when the laptop is docked. I am using Windows to manage the displays (extend, disconnect) Before I undock, I disconnect the external displays. When I do so, both IE11 and Chrome processes hang. If I extend back to the external displays, they start working again. I originally used the HP drivers for the intel hd graphics 4600 and nvidia quadro k2100m. I was having problems with the system not recognizing the type and resolution of the external displays, so HP support advised me to try the intel and nvidia drivers. That did not fix the issue with the displays and I am also having this problem with the IE11 and Chrome processes hanging. I recently updated to the latest intel and nvidia drivers and they made no difference. I'm disappointed that this very expensive laptop and docking station works so poorly. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Anyone have a suggestion to work around or fix it?

A:Problems with ZBook 15 G2 and Advanced Docking Station

Just got the same ZBook 15 G2 and I'm also having these resolution issues when using a external display. It's driving me crazy. Both displays (laptop and external) have the same resolution 1920x1080. And yet for some reason when I drag a window from one display to another the resolution of that window changes. I either have the correct resolution on the laptop screen or I have the correct resolution on the external display. But not at the same time. While draging the windows from one display you can clearly see the size of the window changing, from perfectly readable to a blurry resolution that is hard to read. I have used multiple display drivers. I have set the Hybrid mode in de BIOS on every possible setting. Nothing solves this issue. There must be more ZBook users out there having these issues.  Anybody got a solution for this mess?

Will a HP ZBook 15 G2 Laptop with a A7E38UT#ABA 230W Advanced Docking Station run two Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz using both DisplayPorts on the Docking Station? I am currently running a HP ZBook 15 G2 Laptop using the A7E34AA#ABA Docking Station running two Samsung UHD UE850 Monitors at 4K.I am using the DisplayPort on the A7E34AA#ABA Docking Station to run one of the Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz.I am using a StarTech USB to DisplayPort adapter to provide a second DisplayPort. The adapter driven monitor will only refresh at 30 Hz and looks terrible compared to the 60 Hz monitor.  I can use the mini DisplayPort on the laptop to drive the second Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz, but I am afraid the laptop mini DisplayPort physical port will wear out quickly and give me trouble quickly because I remove laptop from the port at least daily. Can the A7E38UT#ABA 230W Advanced Docking Station run two Samsung UHD Monitor UE850 monitors at 4K and 60hz using both DisplayPorts on the Docking Station?Thank you.Bill

Dear all I have bought a HP Zbook 15 laptop and installed Ubuntu 12.04. It does not show anything on the external monitor when I mount the laptop on the docking station.  After installing the Ubuntu 12.04 and putting it on the docking station for the first time, I got this problem:"If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver". I have attached the whole log file. Then, I installed the latest Nvidia driver, and restarted the machine. Hopefully someone here can help me before I get an aneurysm. I got the HP Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station (150 watts, model number P5Q54AA). Everything is connected ok but as soon as the dock connects to my laptop it crashes my computer instantly and generates the blue screen of death. It doesn't matter if a monitor is connected or not. There was a couple of scary moments when it sent my fans into overdrive and started beeping loudly as if a bomb was ready to explode. I spent more than eight hours on this yesterday and at this point the dock seems like nothing more than a nice looking brick. I have went through all of the help threads here and tried everything. I updated the bios from 1.14 to 1.15I updated all audio drivers, graphic drivers, firmware drivers, chipset drivers, and thunderbolt related driversI rolled back everything twice and reinstalled everythingI removed the security setting in the bios that relates to thunderbolt devices connectingI've made numerous other changes that didn't work and had to roll backNothing seems to work. I am puzzled as to why HP haven't set this up better. Surely there needs to be a dedicated app for this that handles everything and installs and removes all necessary drivers. By the looks of it this docking station has been a mess from the start. What else can I do at this point?

It is possible you have a defective dock. I have exactly the same setup and went through some difficulties when I first got it but turning off Thunderbolt security made mine work. It is still occasionally finicky coming out of sleep mode or if I disconnect the laptop and use it as a laptop then try to reconnect the dock. Takes a restart or 2 sometimes but mine generally works well.  I would suggest your problems point to a bad piece of hardware.

I have a new Zbook 15 G2 with Nvidia K2100M and docking station with dual displays (Dell HD). I have the desktop manager configured to use one of the dual displays on the docking station as the default display when the computer is docked. When I boot the computer on the docking station, the desktop manager does not recognize the displays. It identifies them as "nvidia displays" with resolution 640x480. The docking station and displays are powered by a power bar. If I power cycle the power bar, the desktop manager recognizes the type and resolution of the displays. The computer is running the latest intel and nvidia drivers. What is the verdict on MSKB3161608 - June 2016 update rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1?

I see that MSKB3161608 includes quite a few patches, including MSKB3161647 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 2016. In the past, I think some people mentioned MS possibly slipping in some Win10 crap with patches to the Windows Update Client.

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, does MSKB3161608 (or MSKB3161647) include any nasties, Win10 garbage, or MS-suprises?

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, is MSKB3161608 a recommended install?

A:What is the verdict on MSKB3161608 - June 2016 update rollup?

Hi SevenOfNine

(So, you are referring to Star Trek Voyager)

Actually, you still can upgraded to Windows 10 as this will end on July 2016, as announce.
I refuse to install, as i am used to Windows 7.

I think you can do it, because it keep showing when going to MSN website.
Try it, as it may works.

Sometimes i don't understand why people so like to do update this patch that so on....
When it is good and ready, Windows update will push to your pc, definitely.
You can go > Start --> Windows update, then it pop-up to remind to upgrade to Windows 10 (was downloaded into my pc.)

I did the Windows creators update and everything seem to go well.  I had to take my laptop to a class, so disconnected it from the docking station.  When I reconnected it, it would not connect the keyboard and mouse from the docking station.  Dual display, and network works (although it is a little messed up since it seems to want to use the laptop monitor now when it is docked.  Typically when docked it would just use the displays when the lid was shut.  Device manager reports that there is an unknown generic USB device now.  My assumption that is the hub where the keyboard and mouse were plugged in.  I am able to plug in the keyboard and mouse into the side USB ports. I ran all the system updates from Lenovo but none addressed the generic USB device issue. I read on another forum here where people reported the same behavior with a different laptop and docking station. I have the Lenovo brand docking station.  Worked fine before the update, and just after.  Not after removing and laptop from the docking station though. Thoughts, please upvote.

We recently update the ThinkPad Pro Docking Station Firmware to V3.3.1 We are not able to connect the monitors after a few minutes.   When it eventually connects the screens are shifted to the left with a Black Bar on the Right Hand and Purple Line on the Edge  of Screen. Monitors with issues are LG Flatron W2242 TQ with 22 inch 1680 X 1050. Other 1080p monitors are working as expected. We are looking at how to rollback to the previous firmware version

Hi, Thinkpad Ultra Docking Station - 40AJ0135EU Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th - 20KH006JMXBIOS: N23E56W 1.31 Recently installed updates: ThinkPad BIOS Update - 10 [64], version 1.31Synaptics Touchpad Firmware Update Tool - 10 [64], version PR2698617 / PR 2812761ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration Package Setup - 10 [64], version 9.0.2.15 Everything was working fine before these updates, but now I can't get the wireless mouse and keyboard (usb dongle) or the usb headset to work connected to the dock. Works fine when connected directly to the X1 Carbon. I suspect the BIOS update, anyone got any tips? The dock is listed as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" under Windows settings. I have of course tried to uninstall/remove device and install it again, but it won't work.  I have a colleague who also has a X1 Carbon, with recent updates and his X1 Carbon works perfectly with my dock. And similarly, my X1 Carbon works perfectly with his dock, which is a Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Edit: Tried to update Dock firmware with driver from https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/no/en/products/monitors-and-projectors/docks/thinkpad-ultra-docking-sta... But problem still remains When I try to run automatic scan for updates through Lenovo support I get the failure message: "The package catalog for your system is currently being updated on the System Update Server. Please try again later"

Hello -  My x220 does not lock into  Mini Docking Station Series 3 that I bough recently. The rubber pads on the battery seem to be preventing the laptop from being docked. (Not sure if I am doing something wrong instead.) Also I am trying to set up a multi monitor display ( Dell U2415). Will appreciate some inputs on how I should resolve both the issues or a link if that has been covered before .

Hi!
I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station.
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors.
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)  Serial number of failed request: 48  Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
Problem also reported in launchpad with lot's of debug info, here:
bugs.launchpad.net/.../1585884
Autorandr script is here: github.com/.../

Does a docking station charge a laptop without the docking system itself being plugged in?

Hi, What is your laptop ? Does it have docking port and use a PROPER docking station ?  If YES for both then yes, docking station will changer the battery on laptop, Normal USB port replicators (vendors also call them as docking startions) won't charge battery on laptop. Regards.

Hi,I've just got a Zbook 15 G2 and currently looking for docking station as I mainly use it with combination of monitor + keyboard/Mouse + speaker in my desk.Since this laptop is quite large with its equally unwieldy power brick I figured out I'd better go with a docking for easy daily attach/detach. http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetHTML.aspx?docname=c04287869I think I need the basic dock (not the advance one)So a few internet searches suggest the suitable dock for HP Zbook 15 is the one with 230W power (it makes sense since its factory power brick is 150 watt), but I also see a the 90W one is offered considerably cheaper.. and I get a vague notion that the additional power in the 230W is simply to allow you to successfully operate more peripheral items at a single time.Since I'm not going to connect and/or daisy-chain any power hungry device, is there any chance 90W docking would be able to hold?Regards,Razz

A:90W Docking for HP Zbook 15 G2

For anyone interested,  I went with 120W Dock and my laptop works just fine (no warning/no error/no "running under power" message). No degradation of performance whatsoever. My setup:HP Zbook 15 G2+ HP 2012 120W Dock  + Displayport Monitor + Wireless Keyboard/Mouse + 1 or 2 low power USB devices (Smartphone/Portable HDD) Additionally I found out that some people also have success using 90W dock, but this is anecdotal. I can't really confirm.

I am using this Zbook 17 g3 for the third week now. It is significantly fasters than the elitebook 8760W it retires. There is still some issues not resolved. I have established a routine to making docking to the thunderbolt 3 work. I have one thunderbolt 3 at home and another in the office.  I found to have the thunderbolt 3 docking work properly I need to log in to the laptop standing alone without having it connected to any device. The external keyboard and the mouse are both connected to the thunderbolt 3 via USB so when I start up they are both inactive. After the laptop starts up, I then plug in the thunderbolt 3 to the laptop to provide it with power and communication. The screen (dual monitor in both locations) flashes and then the second monitor, external keyboard and the mouse work this way. If I plug in the thunderbolt 3 connector to the laptop right when I start up, it will not communicate with the laptop which means the external keyboard, the mouse or the second monitor all will not work.  I think this is not right. I'd like to be able to walk into the office, or home office. Dock the laptop. Turn it on and every device works, like any HP docking device I used to have. But before I found an alternative my established start-up procedure is an acceptable work around. Not good enough. But I'd live with it. How is everyone else's experience with the zbook 17 g3 docking to the thunderbolt 3? Another issue is I have not yet had the USB ports on ... Read more

Has anyone been able to get the June 2016 updates for Windows 7 by the normal "Checking for updates" method?

I haven't have any trouble obtaining the June 2016 updates for Windows XP and Windows 10, but Windows 7 is a different story.

I heard that Microsoft was going to change the way that Windows 7 users start receiving monthly updates, and apparently it has.

i love my T520.  i love my X220.  this week Windows 10 no longer functions right on either of them!  The Conexant drivers were uninstalled and Windows generic audiopoint driver put in its place.  Windows 10 updates drivers with no notification.  And the only way I knew this had happened, was all my audio went sour -- tinny high pitches and echoing ...so I check the drivers.  Knew i had installed the Conexant drivers when setting up the systems. But instead of Conexant drivers, there is a Microsoft installation, with a warning when you try to get driver details of "no device drivers are necessary for this device." I'm operating on the assumption that this HAS to be happening to other users -- have you noticed your sound going bad in Windows 10 recently?  Is on both my Thinkpads that have Conexant sound boards.MS won't allow the reinstall of the Conexant drivers.  All audio enhancements are turned off.  In fact, i have to turn the enhancements on again and play with the equalizer to try and get more bass and less screaching.  It still sounds awful.Conexant boards are also in the newer T series and E series.... so surely this is being noted in others that upgraded to Windows 10? The Windows 10 Conexant driver available from Lenovo website no longer works or installs at all.  HELP HELP HELP HELP ....i have tried everything.  even used linux to go in and remove ms audioendpoint applications.  i ca...
