Preferred Solution: Sharepoint workspace search protocol handler?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I uninstalled MS office 2007 and install MS office 2010. There is this message:
"Setup has detected legacy groove or Microsoft groove server software on this system. You must uninstall all legacy groove or Microsoft groove server software before installing or upgrading to Microsoft SharePoint Workspace. I really have no idea what it means. I search in control panel and cannot find legacy groove or Microsoft groove to uninstall them. Please help me so I can install MS office.

Hi,

Does anyone know any way I can connect to this workspace?
Thanks.

Is this work related? From my little experience with SharePoint, the "owner" of a site must grant permissions for users to access it.

Try refining this symptom description.  What exactly do you mean by "it won't open"?  Answering that might explain why you are posting this in an IE forum.  E.g. right-click, Copy Shortcut whatever it is that you are calling
a "broken link" and Paste it here.
Otherwise, try right-click, Save target as... to put the file into your Downloads (Ctrl-j) and then use right-click, Properties to find its
full path and name.  Note that that would be quite different from what the Copy Shortcut step would have shown.
Next I suspect that the Set Associations GUI tool may not be showing you the correct information.  FWIW it certainly doesn't show me the correct information in W8.1.  So, I would try checking if you have an explicit association and file type combination
by using the assoc and ftype commands in a cmd window.  In fact, instead of just showing the ftype for the current association I would use this:
    ftype  |  find  /i  "word"
Then you could take the most appropriate template (not necessarily the one pointed to by the assoc command) and fill it in on a Run... dialog (or a ... Read more

I have problems to set an eMail client (e.g. Thunderbird) on my 64bit Win 7 system for handling all "mailto" links.

It is often recommended to go to
Control Panel --> Set Default programs
or
Control Panel ---> "Associate a file type or protocol with a program"

and assign the (new) email client here.

But this doesn't work here since the underlying protocol entries are missing.

Have a look at the attached snapshot; As you can see: There is NO "mailto" protocol entry here (...which I could change)!

I tracked down the problem to the Registry and found empty Registy branches for

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\mailto

I think the are accidentially deleted in the past.
So what I need is a zero-assumption initial Registry re-fill for "mailto".

How can I re-create Registry key branches to any email client or the protocol itself.

I think when this is done I can easily re-assign the mailto protocol to other software.

This is an advanced question. I'm just seeing what anybody might have to chip in. So I'm working with a SBS 2003 R2. We have the local intranet (companyweb) that uses SharePoint for the document sharing and what not. SharePoint has a feature that enables users to search on the companyweb page. However, this feature does not come standard. It has to be implemented. I've been finding a couple of different options available. The strongest one seems to be just installing SQL Server 2000 or higher to supplement the back end database for the SharePoint Search. Has anyone had to work with this before and have any suggestions?

P.S.- SBS does install SQL desktop engine "stock" onto the server. But it doesn't have anything actually running in the background. Thanks!

Recently I have been getting the error message "Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host has stopped working" popping up every 10 seconds when Vista is building its search index. After indexing is complete, the messages disappear.

In the event viewer, the corresponding application errors show up:

Faulting application SearchProtocolHost.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549b668, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bd80, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00045208, process id 0x16ec, application start time 0x01c7ce62a8eaadd8.

I have tried system restore, but none of my restore points worked, so it looks like I am going to have to try and track down the problem.

I have tried rebuilding the windows search index, and deleting/rebuilding the actual index file, but that didn't help.

I have done a lot of googling for an answer, and the only solutions I have found applied to people who has Outlook 2007 installed, which I do not.

Any suggestions?

I appear to have multiple issues on my daughter's laptop running Vista Home premium SP1. This started when she got some sort of hijack virus that prevented her from even getting to the Windows screen. I restored her PC to a previous known good configuration and she was able to go back into Windows. I installed Symantec Endpoint protection since her Norton 360 subscription had expired. She now cannot connect to any internet sites through either IE8 or Google Chrome. I restored again to the pre-Symantec config and the internet issue still exists. I have scoured forums left and right, found multiple suggestions, none of which work. In trying to see if other applications could connect, I started Outlook 2007 and am now getting "Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host has stopped working" popups every 10 seconds. Windows firewall shows as on but has a message that all inbound connections that do not have an exception are blocked.

To see if this was a network connection problem, I ran IPCONFIG /ALL and can see a valid IP address. I then pinged the address as well as this site's address and Yahoo.com and got valid responses. I started looking at Services but am probably in over my head and wanted to try and get help before proceeding further. Bump. I disabled the Windows search service but still have the unable to connect to the internet problem. I ran SFC /SCANNOW and there were several corrupt files that it could not repair. I am currently running CHKDSK and it is taking a long time (but still progressing). If I had to guess, there are corrupt files some of which are preventing connection with the internet. They may or may not have been caused by the virus I had to remove. Since the virus was showing itself on bootup and not allowing me into Windows, I had to disconnect the battery to reboot. Maybe that corrupts files?

Hi,
I have a strange problem with my uncles desktop pc. That pc has to be always on for video recording but once in a while Windows will automatically reboot and i just can't exactly find out why.
But why i did found out is that he's always getting 3 error messages (in the Windows event viewer) about 20 min prior to the unplanned reboot.
These are the error message in the event viewer:
1) The following fatal alert was generated: 10. The internal error state is 1203 --> Schannel ID3688 --> time: 19:00
2) The same as above on the exact same time with same event
3) RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client --> TermDD ID50 --> Time: 19:48 (about 25 min prior to the reboot)
Who can help me out here. This is driving me crazy. Sometimes we miss days of recording, while we aren't using that PC for other things.
Thanks in advance!

I did quite a bit of online research prior to asking my own question, but none of  the solutions I've found online really pertain to the issue we're experiencing.
We have 2 Windows 7 Pro PCs in the office.  They are accessed via RDP from within the same network/location.  The systems that are accessing these 2 PCs are an XP Pro machine and a Mac.  The clients stay connected for randomly lengths of time
(no longer than 1 hour) before the session goes black and disconnects them randomly.  When the disconnect occurs, it's not due to inactivity.  The user has to wait several minutes before they are able to reconnect.
On the Windows 7 PCs, Event Viewer gives:
Event ID: 50  The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.
Event ID: 56  The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.
I've seen suggestions of checking registry keys and a lot of suggestions regarding Windows Server and Terminal Server, but they don't apply to our situation.  Please let me know if more information is required.  Thank you!

A:The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

Hi,

Do you enable the
IEEE 802.1x authentication?

Regarding the issue, I suggest updating the network adapter driver manually on Windows 7 PCs. Also update the router's driver and firmware.

If the issue persists, you could disable the TCP Offload. To do this,

a.
Run the following commands on both the client and the server to disable NIC offloading.

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled

netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled

b.
Modify the following registry key to disable netDMA on the client and the server.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\EnableTCPA

Note: If this registry entry does not exist, right-click Parameters, point to New, click DWORD Value, type EnableTCPA, and then press ENTER.

Value: 0

You can also refer to the following KB to troubleshoot the issue. Hope it helps.

A friend at work experienced the same problem on his PC. Turns out he had a corrupt indexing file. You could try posting the details from Event Viewer, if that is possible. I wouldn't be able to help you interpreting them, but maybe some of the more experienced members could.

Have you tried disabling Windows Search? I did this on my friend's PC as a temporary measure . Got IE working, although searches were rather slow. It isn't a solution, but it could afford you a temporary -- albeit inconvenient -- workaround.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Stick around, though, and wait for inputs from the more knowledgeable members.

I sure hope this isn't something simple that i'm foolishly overlooking but I need help (again) please. I was showing the new Sprout to my grandkids this morning and they obviously loved it. I think we were taking 3-D Scans when suddenly the computer shut down like it lost power. I assumed one of the kids bumped a cord or something but I didn't find anything like that. Everything looked fine and I started the computer again. Everything works fine except Sprout Workspace. It won't open. I double-click on its desktop icon and get the small blue turning circle for about half a second then the circle disappears and it doesn't open. I've tried two other ways to get it to open as well to no avail. I try to open the Hub and it says it is going to turn on the Sprout Workspace but it sits there endlessly trying as well. The workspace just won't open. I went to the support assistant and downloaded the two updates that were available. Still no good. Very frustrated here and hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.  Thanks!!

Hi Lee 1956,I figured it out.....I went on the recovery manager, the message for me to create the system recovery had been sitting in my support assistant for awhile but I was waiting for a good time to do it.  So click on "create system recovery"  you then click on 'launch recovery media creation utility".  Your computer will ask if it has permission to do this, click yes.  When you are in the recovery manager you have 3 headings of stuff you can do, (help, precaution, and maintence).  Under help there is 'reinstall drivers and/or applications' click on this option.  It will bring up a big list of things you can re-install.  Scroll down to the bottom of the list and you will see "Sprout Complete".  Click on this and re-install.  It will work on it for a while, the Sprout icon on the desktop will disappear and then come back, at the end it will say re-install complete and ask you to restart the computer. Do this and you will get your Sprout workspace back.Hope it works for you! Gail

I bought a 60 gb ssd and wanted to run my windows on this drive and install everything on seperate hard drive other then c. anyways winodows takes up to 35 gb on the install leaving me with just over 20 gb. installed sims 3 and 2 other expansions well now I have 10 gb left. with three more expansions I will be down to nothing.

So I downloaded r-drive image and did a system copy to a bigger Hard drive. everything worked out but when I went into the store it says that windows store is not available to mobile workspaces. ok fine I figured it out to be a group policy setting that gets a workaround for this. But I am still considered to be a mobile workspace. What issues will I have being stuck on mobile workspace or how can I fix this.

Looking for ideas.
I have a complicated Access database project that I would like have the ability to have a group of people working on it online.
I looked @ https://signup.workspace.office.live...x?unverified=1
And it would be PERFECT except it only works for Word, Excel, & Powerpoint.
It sounds so cool...
"Access and share files from anywhere
Work with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
5GB of free online storage (thousands of Office documents)
Share password-protected documents?you control who views and edits
Use for work, home, and school"

Anybody know anyway to do this with Access?

thanks,

fmg

Dude, use MYSQL or SQL for the backend, and just use access for the frontend of the db. Access isnt really designed for the purpose you are attempting.

I'm new to the world of MAC and am running a I7-920 Hackintosh built by a friend. I've weaned myself almost entirely from the Windows side but I find the transparent workspace when using the Mac Version of Photoshop CS5 dreadfully confusing. I would like to change the workspace to a solid gray image as it appears when using CS5 in Windows but have not been able to find the answer so have resorted to this Forum!
TIA from someone who's been around computer's since the Vacumn Tube days in'62 but can't figure out his new Mac!

After the last Windows 10 update all Sprout Apps and Workspace are gone. How do I restore the Sprout software without doing a complete system restore so I don't lose all my current installed software.  thank you

A:Workspace gone after last Windows 10 update

Hi @hgroth,Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I gather that after a recent update your desktop is not the same and you want to get it back. I am happy to help with this. From your post, I see that you are confusing a System Restore with a System Recovery. For your purposes a System Restore is your best bet. See the following Microsoft information showing the different Recovery option and their uses. Recovery options in Windows 10 - windows.microsoft.com So give a System Restore a go, and let me know if it works. That same linked page has the instructions on how to do it further down. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

This gets really annoying.  I had the Windows desktop on the screen, and the Sprout Workplace on the mat while I was typing a forum post.  Suddenly, all but one app disappeared from the Workspace.  I can move the missing 15 down to Workspace(again), but this is a inconvenient and frequent happening.

A:It did it again! Apps disappear from the Workspace.

I had the same problem. Then I noticed that after I had run CCleaner from the Windows 8.1 desktop and then went back into the Sprout workspace, most of the apps had disappeared from the mat. I use the Windows cleanup now instead of CCleaner and all is well.

I just purchased a brand new hp sprout and set it up. I try to launch the sprout hub, but it keeps quitting and says that an app needs to be launched. Then a windows dialog asks if I want to try to search for the app on the app store. I am unable to find Sprout Workspace on my computer or on Windows store. Cannot find any resource to download it from HP. Have no clue where to go from here!

A:No sprout workspace app in Windows 10

@hathubha? If your Sprout is brand new and you went through OOBE ( first use) there should be an icon on dekstop called "Sprout Workspace" that you should run. Try that and see how it goes. If you are still having issues you may want to contact the HP Support so they can assist you. FYI -  Sprout Hub is a Social Media sharing portal for easly sharing your creations with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc...

Just recently acquired a used Sprout and promptly upgraded it to Windows 10. What a debacle that was as the Sprout and all its projector, object capture, and document capture were all out of whack and didn't work properly. So, I "rolled back" to windows 8.1, and I was still having issues with the projector and capturing mode from the mat. I went on the "software and drivers" page for 8.1 and downloaded all the updates and patches. When I tried to load the latest Workspace software and the installation kept failing, even if I went a couple of versions back. Therefore, I restored my Sprout to its brand new, out of the box condition and downloaded and installed all windows updates and now, everything works great. My question is: "Which Sprout Workspace is the most stable and the best working for Windows 8.1?" I'm currently using 1.0.6.5022 which is a few versions back. Mind you I haven't downloaded any of the patches, chipsets, audio, BIOS, firmware, updated the graphics card......nothing. After the aforementioned above attempts and all the time invested, I'm hesitant to do so as everything is working fine. If I upgrade to a newer Workspace, do I have to download all the patches and upgrade the firmware, bios, graphics card, etc.? Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions. Rick

A:"Which Sprout Workspace is the most stable for Windows 8.1?"

Hello Rick, Unfortunately version 1.0.6.5022 is the last Win 8.1 supported version. The most current version 1.5.3.2935 requires at minimum Windows 10 TH1 ( Initial release ) or TH2 ( Last Fall release ) but is not yet fully functional on Windows 10 RS1 ( Anniversary Edition ) The next version that supportes Windows 10 RS1 should be avail shortly so please check back often. RegardsOlenn_D

Just needed help in determining whether VBScript can fulfill the functions of what AutoHotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) or Workspace Macro (http://www.tethyssolutions.com/macro-automation.htm) can perform?

The reason I ask is because I've got a massive print job that I'd like to automate as much as possible; unfortunately, I'm working with a third-party program, and my current knowledge of VBS leads me to believe that VBScript is incapable of interfacing with a third-party application, especially one that was never designed for mainstream audiences.

What I'm looking to do is something like this:

1) Pull a number of ID #s from an Excel file (Automated with VBA, of course - I've already done this, so don't worry about this part)

2) Put all ID #s into a form that requires a confirmation per ID # (Basically, you put in ID # 12345, press the "Tab" key, then you click "Add ID", repeat for however ID #s there are, then once you're finished, hit the "Create" button)

I've been able to play around with VBA/VBS enough to know that this type of automation can be done, but primarily only in Windows components, such as Excel or Windows Administration (Active Directory, Task Scheduler, etc).

I'm pretty sure that AutoHotkey will be more than sufficient for my needs, but I was just wanting to check to see if VBScript had any spot at the table on this (especially since it would give me another chance at playing... Read more

A:VBScript vs AutoHotkey vs Workspace Macro

Nevermind; I've got it figured out.

I haven't bothered trying to mimic mouse movement, but it's unnecessary, as the third-party application has excellent support for hotkeys (ALT / CTRL based hotkey combos), so I've just been using the SendKeys method.

Here are some links that I found invaluable:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171548.aspx

A note on AutoHotkey:
It's an open-source program, so a preface as such would lead one to believe that it's going to be a program that's free of any malicious code; I haven't taken a look myself at it, but I would still believe it to be so, despite the many AV programs that flag it as malicious. Again, I haven't looked at the code (it would take me forever to figure out what I'm looking at), so I can't really speak to it's safety, but my research demonstrated that AV programs are just flagging a false-positive. Despite this, I didn't install it, as my OCD (or paranoia?) prevented me from doing so, but don't let my experience prevent you from doing what you feel is best (especially when you're in a productivity-intensive environment and don't understand VBS; kind of like me).

I didn't bother doing anything with Workspace Macro, since it's a trial-to-pay software. If you're t... Read more

Hello, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 Tablet (model 4296) which was originally on Windows 7 64-bit, but was now updated to Windows 10 Anniversary.  I would like to know how to set up the pen to work with Windows Ink Workspace.  This is the Lenovo pen that is part of the X220T.  I had read the exellent description of different types of Lenovo pens in this forum, but I think the X220T pen is older than any of the pens described.  Could someone help explain if this pen (and the X220T tablet mode) is fully functional in Windows 10 with Ink?  or is this model too old and should be obsolete?!  Thank you very much.

A:Thinkpad X220T pen with Windows Ink Workspace

I have the Thinkpad X220t and it runs Windows 10 with the update very well. Ink is working with the pen. However mine is the 4298 model.  Be sure you have updated drivers from Lenovo.
