I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Y520 automatically received the January, 2020 Win-10 'Patch Tuesday' update today.  After it rebooted, the WIFI adapter had disappeared.  It didn't even show up in the Control Panel list.  I manually downloaded and installed the device driver.  After rebooting multiple times, the entry showed up in Device Manager with an exclamation point, saying "Error 10, more setup was needed", but I couldn't figure what else was needed.  I tried removing and reinstalling the driver, but got the same error.  Finally, just to get it working, I restored to the restore point from before the update, and it came up fine.  So the update did something to the WIFI device driver.   I assume this is going to happen again when Windows tries to update again, and I have another duplicate Y520 which will update in a day or so, if things happen like normal, so I'd like to find out what is going on. Vantage on both systems shows that all system updates are current. The adapter is the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A. Has anybody else had this happen with the January Windows update yet?  Thanks,Ron

We use Yoga Pro 3 computers for work, so I have several and this problem is the same on 3 of them (which leads me to rule out a hardware issue): the wifi adapter just went missing one night, seemingly after the latest routine windows 10 update.  Bluetooth is still there, but no wifi.  If I go into the device managers, I see a bunch of 'wan miniport' artifacts, but no actual wifi adapater.  I've rolled back the update (multiple udpates, for tha matter), played around in BIOS, I've tried intsalling the network adapter drivers manually, and on one computer, I even did a factory reset.  Nothing works.  Certainly a windows update can't damage the wifi card itself.  Anyone have any ideas?  No network connection makes these computers expensive paperweights.  And since they're employee computers, time is critical.  I'm giong to have to guy buy new computers this week if I can't resolve this.

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try the W8 driver for the RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi card your notebook has. I am not surprised that it doesn't work on W10, since there are no W8.1 or W10 drivers for that model card. This package contains the driver installation package for the Realtek RTL8188CE wireless LAN Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59181.exe

Greetings all.  I noticed a very significant slowdown of Wireless AC performance when I updated to the latest driver.  I was getting about 1-4Mbps down and kilobytes up.  After restarting my wireless and doing code on my access point (Unifi AP-AC-LR) I reverted back down to 19.50.1.5 on the wireless driver.  Lo and behold I managed to get my regular 100Mbps down and 15Mbps up again.  I would like to know what the heck happened with the driver/software team to completely cripple the performance by a driver update?   Can anyone at Lenovo get eyes on this to please correct it in the future since I am not going back to 19.71.1.1 anytime soon

Unfortunately my p51s is dead after a bios update. It automatically downloaded from Windows 10 and attempted to install but never restarted.  I don't restart that often, and a few weeks later went to restart, and the computer just hanged at the Leonvo loading screen. The computer launches to the bios screen, but then to Boot Menu and wont load from there. At one point the startup interrupt was working, and I got in and saw the last version of bios updated was 1.35. My issue appears to be the exact same issue as reported in this thread.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-L-R-and-SL-series/UEFI-BIOS-update-1-33-gt-1-35-bricked-my-L46... Is there a way to flash the bios to 1.37 from a USB. Hi everyone,
first, I read many forums about this problem, but I cant find real solution. My problem is, that one beautiful day my Lenovo notebook with latest Insider Windows 10 (11102) stop working LAN (yellow triangle) and Wifi (after few minutes of connection gives triangle too). In case of Wifi, I can simply turn it off and on again and it works for few next minutes, but LAN stopped working completedly. It says, that in this computer isnt any internet protocol, but in setting both (IPv4&6) are ticked. Lenovo sent me to heaven, because drivers are already included in Win 10, so I cant reinstall it. Uninstal of drivers for LAN and Wifi and automatic new install doesnt help me. I must use nano WIFI TP-Link adapter and its horrible! Thank you for your advices and sorry for my english skills
EDIT: I already tried this, but there isnt any word about driver updates of my LAN and WIFI.

Have you tried going to Device Manager, expand Network adapters, Right click and select properties on the one you want to try, click on the driver tab and select uninstall? Then just reboot and let Windows recognize it and install the drivers. if you haven't tried that already, give it a try and see if it helps.

I recently updated my Inspiron 14" 5459 to the Windows 10 anniversary update, i noticed that when my wifi access point changes or wifi signal drops or turning off wifi, my laptop semi-freezes, you could still scroll with the mouse or track pad and select open tabs but that's all, clicking other icons and even the windows start menu does not work, if you wait for more than 5 minutes, everything goes back to normal. Waiting around for about 5 minutes is annoying so what I do is press ctrl alt delete and from there restart the laptop. my wifi adapter is updated to the most recent version and also both graphics card (intel hd 520 and amd radeon m335) is also updated to the latest version.  Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?

A:after Windows 10 anniversary update, Inspiron 5459 freezes if wifi is turned off or wifi access point is changed, is there a solution to this problem?

Please confirm the wireless card from the device manger or the network control panel. Also please update the BIOS firmware to the latest version. The BIOS update should ideally be version v1.2.2. Also please try system out with  a LAN cable as well to confirm if is indeed caused by the wireless. Though this may not run a complete diagnostics on the network you can run a hardware diagnostics on the computer using the following steps

Shutdown the computer
Hold the 'Fn' key and turn on the computer
Let go of the 'Fn' key after 2 seconds

This is will initiate the H/w diagnostics. Please let us know if it completes or if  you run into any errors. If  you do run into any errors.

Is Windows 7 Support System Still Active in 2020?

A:Is Windows 7 Mainstream Support will also end in 2020?

On January 13, 2015, Microsoft will stop mainstream support for Windows 7--which is still an extremely popular operating system. But you'll still be able to use it safely for another five years.
This isn't anything like the run-up to the end of XP support back in April, when everyone in the tech press (including me) warned you about dire consequences if you continued to use XP. That was the end of extended
support, which is far more serious than the end of mere mainstream support.
Once mainstream support ends, there will be no more service packs. Microsoft won't redesign the environment or add new features. Without a special extended agreement, you won't get patches for bugs that don't result
in a security threat.
But if you like Windows 7, you probably don't really need new service packs, and you certainly don't want a redesigned user interface. As long as Microsoft patches vulnerabilities that could become security risks,
Windows 7 remains a safe operating system.
Microsoft doesn't plan to stop fixing security problems in Windows 7 until extended support ends. That's January 14, 2020--five years and a day from the end of mainstream support.
If that doesn't put you at ease, consider this: XP's mainstream support ended in April 2009. It caused no problems whatsoever. Millions continued to use XP for another five years without people like me warning
them of dire consequences. Windows 7 won't be any different.
Vista mainstream support ended on April 10, 2012. Exte... Read more

Hello community!

Recently I've been pondering buying the AT2020 microphone (just a detail) and was thinking of getting the normal USB version, to save myself some hassle. As some of you might know, Windows 8 has some sort of driver problem with USB mics, so now I'm thinking of getting the AT2020 XLR version and buying something like a Blue Icicle to convert it into a USB signal and connecting it into my PC.

The main question is: Will this work? Will the volume levels still be affected?

I'm no Pro on these things, and since both mics would be connected to the computer via USB I really don't know why it'd matter if the original signal is USB or XLR. May someone enlighten me?

A:Audio-Technica 2020 XLR microphone on Windows 8.1?

I have a recording studio.

If I wanted a standard P.A. type mic to use with a PC, I would get either a small preamp to amplify the low level mic signal to a useable level by the PC (almost "line level"), or just get a USB connected recording interface unit. There are some inexpensive units that would do the job.

USB isn't a problem, that I've found with my USB devices, but if you are using Windows 8.1, some devices must have 8.1 devices to work or work properly. All my devices work on 8.1. I have a Roland Studio-Capture and an Octa-Capture USB recording interface units. A Behringer BCF2000 control surface and a Frontier Tranzport that only has Vista drivers but works OK.

KB4534310 windows 7 January 2020 monthly update keeps failing on my system.

I have tried the following:

Ran the troubleshooter

Followed procedures to stop the Windows services and renamed the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and then apply the update.

Ran sfc /scannow - this found issues and fixed them.

Manually download the update and install it.

However, non of the above worked.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All Intel 3rd generation processors, and later, with a model number starting with 3, for example i5-3470, are Windows 10 capable.  Run 'sys info' to see your processor model.  If you have a Pentium or Celeron, follow these instructions.   If your processor is prior to Windows 10 support, see that section section later in this post.

If you only have 4 GB memory, it is most likely that you will need to upgrade to 8 GB just to run a web browser well (my Win 10 is using 5.4 GB as I type this with only Firefox running), as Win 10 uses more memory than did Win 7, and a 64-bit OS uses more than 32-bit.  I recommend Kingston and Crucial "System Specific" memory for your specific ThinkCentre model.  If your system runs out of memory, it slows to a crawl.

A free Windows 10 upgrade may still be available, I used this method here a year ago:  ZDNet - Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade - updated Sept 2019

A few suggestions to avoid problems:

1.  If you don't have an automatic back-up program, copy all your user data to a large capacity USB drive(s).
2.  If Windows is installed on a hard drive, run a full 'surface scan', as your disk will be using storage it hasn't used before, to ensure it's error free.   Run 'Disk Cleanup' as Admin (right-click) on HDD and particularly on SSD to free up storage.

I have tried both Windows 8 and 8.1 on my system. My experience for non-touch screen use: inefficient in every area. People are downloading the Start Menu from many (10 now) different sources. Even the faux start menu in W8.1 is useless.

This is a perfect example of how quickly accessed the integrated Start Menu in Windows 7 is in this guy's video at YouTube. Just move the marker on the progress bar past his opinions on three free programs "IF" you're not interested in viewing them.

Emphasis on the Start Menu

Hi. I have a lenovo 3000 G430 20008 notebook purchased in 2010. However, recently, the notebook requires me to activate Windows, Windows Vista. I have no way to activate windows vista. I have product key of Windows vista home premium but it is invalid (I have formmated the hard drive and it made me lost that bios key though I have product key)as the key is used? I dialed Microsoft HK hotline and they reply that windows Vista is out of support. I understand that it is out of warranty but my last hope falls on Lenovo support. Is there any way to activate my windows vista? Thnaks, I know it is kind of crazy to use windows vista and a 10-year old notebook but I just dont want to waste it as it is still working pretty good in windows vista!!! Nostalgic and those good days without a readily available and affordable smartphone (Haha)

I have a machine here that seems to be stuck in a boot loop. I was there when the problem started but it seems to be caused by a problematic windows update that it keeps trying to install but fails everytime. I'm hoping there is a solution but I can understand if there's nothing that can be done. As it is, the boot loop won't even let get into windows at all and with how the safe mode boot works differently in Win 10 it seems that that may not even be an option. Here's a video of what I'm talking about https://youtu.be/f9TnIl1VwS8

A:Windows 10 Boot loop P51s

Have you made sure you are doing a full power off/shutdown by pressing the power button for 5-10 seconds.      If that fails, on the bottom of the laptop there is a small Emergency Reset Hole (see image below)      Click on above image to expand sizeTo reset, first unplug the AC adapter, and then use a straightened paperclip etc. to press and hold for about 5 seconds, then reattach your AC power see if a clean start will get you out of the loop If it still loops, and you can still enter the BIOS/Setup (press F1 as soon as you see the Lenovo logo at startup), then you should be able to create Windows 10 Installation Media on another system, and boot the system from the created USB Flash drive to repair Windows by running System Restore.        After booting to the USB drive, select Repair my computer in the lower left >> Advanced Options >> Troubleshoot >> System Restore to see if you can restore to the restore point created by Windows Update prior to applying the latest update that failed.  Note:   You may have to enable USB booting in the BIOS under the Config >>  USB UEFI BIOS Support.  Best of luck,

I recently bought a P51s from Lenovo. I make a 500 Gb partition on my PC in order to in install ubuntu alongside Windows. Ubuntu works pretty well but once I wanted to boot with windows, it asked me for a security number I did not have. It eventually gave me an option to reinstall windows without any installation disc. Since I have a week or so with the computer I do not have anything yet so I was not afraid of losing any file. The reinstall process finished and I was prompted with the cortana setup but once I get to "Do you want to save your files with onedrive?" regardless of the option I choose, the process freezes. I can go back to other options but I can't continue further. It would be very valuable if anyone had this issue and knows how to solve it. The other option I see is to download the installation image from WIndows and then make a fresh install in the partition but I am afraid about the pre installed drivers for the P51s. I have a fingerprint reader and an IR camera that I am concerned will now work with a general installation image from the windows site. Does anyone knows if Lenovo can provide those drivers or if the general image will automatically detect those peripherals and download the drivers?

I replaced my Thinkpad P51s 500GB default hard drive with Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD. However, after this upgrade, now my Windows 10 will freeze up after 10-20 minutes usage (doesn't matter light or heavy usage). Then mouse and keyboard do not respond at all and only way to recover is push and hold power button to power off. I installed Samsung Magician software and it shows that SSD is perfectly healthy (Rapid mode is off). I also ran Lenovo diagnosis software which reported no error. Also upgraded BIOS to latest 1.22 without any help on the issue. Does anyone have any suggestion I could try? Thanks.

I have unintentionally put my laptop back to factory settings and am now back to windows 8.
The windows update isn't working and I can't seem to do anything. I keep searching for updates to download and install but it then says the standalone windows installer is not working either.
Does anyone know how to get around this as I am stuck on windows 8 and I cannot download any games or anything.

Hi!
I've a DELL INSPIRON ONE 2020 All-In-One PC (purchased on 15th April, 2013). I installed the Insider's Build of Windows 10 x64 about 2 months ago. I wasn't satisfied with it's performance, so I decided to reinstall Windows 8 in it (which came preinstalled as OEM when I purchased the PC). But unfortunately (for me), the DELL BACKUP AND RECOVERY software which I discretely installed in it failed to apply the factory image with error somewhat stating, "DBAR failed to apply the image". Also, the Dell Backup and Recovery is not even available in the Bootup Recovery mode and not even if I press F8 or other function keys. I googled and found methods to apply the image using ImageX tool in boot mode. I put the hotfix KB2525084 (actually the ImageX tool) in my Pendrive and in the recovery mode, I used Command Prompt and typed the follwing command:
j:\imagex /apply f:\DELL\Image\PART0001\EFI.wim 1 c:\
where j:\ is my pendrive ; f:\ was the partition with .wim image in it ; c:\ was the OS path to be recovered.
It completed in just 4 seconds! But other websites stated that it would take around 15-20 minutes to complete applying the image. I understood that something is fishy, and I was right! The PC didn't boot again. Also the apllied image showed just somewhat 250mb of data, but my hard disk (named PBR Image) was of around 9gb in size. The swm files in it (2 in nos.) were around 4gb each. I looked another forum and that stated to format the C:\ drive. I... Read more
